20 Best Hair Gel For Edges (Feb 2023 Update)

I am pretty brand loyal when it comes to my haircare, but every now and again if a product is amazing enough from another line , I will cheat on my usual and dip into the other line for that product. This is one of them The Moroccan Oil Treatment oil, which I feel is their most popular product that lead the way for this brand I think lol yes it is expensive, yes I get it cheaper because I am a liscenced professional lol but, when it comes to these higher end hair products , usually,you get what you pay for. It is worth the expensive price tag. There are some expensive hair products that I feel are not worth it and are way too overpriced for what they actually do and I am always very honest in my reviews on hair care because I live and breathe hair , its my profession, its what I love and I love to help people achieve hair they love, so if that means being honest and saying hey this product isnt worth it or its crap OR hey , this is not a brand I retail at work BUT Ive used it and I love it and recommend it even if u need to buy it elsewhere and I dont really achieve much for myself, what I want to achieve is to educate people on hair hair products and what works for them . So I am always honest when clients ask me about Moroccan oil.. that no we dont carry it but it is something I love and use everyday.it gives my hair amazing shine, it makes it feel soft and silky and just glides on over those little split ends like they are there, it helps tame frizz and flyaways and its a treatment that actually is beneficial to your hair. The bottle is on the small side but a little goes a LONG way unless you want to look like you stuck your hair in some grease than by all means lol but seriously a tiny bit, rub in your palms and rub jtno your hair , focusing on the ends and midshaft scalp will just make u oily I have naturally curly hair that is prone to dryness, it gets frizzy , its thick. I use the regular Moroccan oil treatment but there is also a light for those with finer hair , more oily , sleek type ,thinner hair that this regular one might be a little heavy for. I also apply this to dry hairz over my midshaft and ends when I feel they could use a little TLC . If theyre looking a little dry maybe just a little bit of this run through it and it will make your hair feel all soft and loveable again. I like the smell, it isnt anything strong or overpowering. This is the only hair product I do use from Moroccan oil, I am sure they do have other good products but at that price point and already being happy with my current hair care routine, Ive never felt the need to try them and I feel that this product here is their Holy Grail so to speak, like the 1 amazing stand out product where they are at the top of their game. I really love using this stuff. I have for years. My original favorite was Chi Silk Infusions and I still like that stuff but I feel this does the job better. So basically youd use something like this for heat and uv protection as well as moisture and shine. Mostly I use it for getting some moisture back in my really parched, heat abused hair for a nice, healthy and naturally shiny look. Using products like that can go wrong really fast. You can cross the line into greasy mess from shiny tresses quick. You can do that with this too if you use too much but a lot of products do that no matter how little you use. This lasts forever because even with the thickest and driest hair needs only a dime size or less warmed between the palms and lightly rubbed through every layer from root to ends with finger tips open to get every strand focusing on the ends. Ive noticed that it gives me life back to my hair. It gives me that naturally healthy movement you just dont get with fried hair. With this and changing my hair habits I have come almost all the way back from totally broken hair to healthy hair thats a little dry and has split ends. And with my current issues it makes it look like I have none. Especially when I flat iron my hair with this as a heat protectant it almost seals the cuticle completely and keeps my hair looking super healthy until my next wash. I also use it randomly to add a touch of moisture back into my hair if its really dry. Or if my ends are getting bad between trims I use this and flat iron them to seal them and make them look healthy temporarily. It also smells amazing. I love the comforting and unique almost but not quite tropical scent. Its very unique and very feminine without being like a perfume. It makes my hair smell fresh and pretty and that scent lasts for a couple days. Overall it is a little expensive but it lasts a long time so it ends up costing almost the same as the drugstore over time because if does last so long. Its just more of an initial investment. A sephora employee told me this stuff actually is bad for your hair and dries it out but I dont think it would have gotten so famous if it wasnt so great for so many people. Maybe she just had a bad experience. It wouldnt have been the first time I had been given bad information by a Sephora employee but I just thought Id mention it. I totally recommend. But only buy from authorized retailers like salons or stores like sephora, macys, and other high end retailers or it will most likely be a fake.Anonymous

Lets just say, I love Morrocanoil and have for years the product has always been consistently the same until I tried the bottle from this seller.This does not smell or feel like MoroccanoilI love my normal Morrocanoil because its Lux, silky smooth and has a specific color and wonderful smell. This product was not any of those things it was tacky it stuck to my hands and didnt glide through my hair and made my hair feel rough. It had a nice smell but not the Moroccanoil scent.I still have some Moroccanoil from my last bottle and even the color is different.This new product is not good. Not sure if I just got an off bottle or what has happened.I read over the label and it said nothing about a new formula. All I can say is this is not the signature Morrocanoil and its not a good product. It feels like castoroil.I liked the price and thats why I ordered from this seller but next time I will just pay full price at the salon because I know what Im getting.It even wasnt in its signature box or had the same colored label so that makes me more curious.I couldnt find a way to contact the seller I went to the reorder page and the sellers name was different then this one. I'm a natural girl and it was so hard to find a gel that could lay down my hair and thus gel did it! BOMB!!!! I've been on the search for an edge gel that can lay my 3C/4A edges down for more than a couple of minutes. This is literally the ONLY edge gel I've ever used where my edges were laid ALL day long without feeling too hard or dry to the point you can tell it will break-off your edges with continued use. I did my usual routine of styling my edges…than I tied a scarf over them while they were drying and waited like 10 minutes before untying the scarf. Of course…when you first use an edge gel it looks good until like an hour later. Not with this product!!! When Ebin says this is a 24 Hour Edge Tamer…they mean it. I used this product in the morning…it's almost 8pm and my edges are still laid. Plus this product doesn't leave any gross white residue…which is so disrespectful, how are you going to have bomb edges with a white cast??? Not possible. Also it dries completely and doesn't leave a tacky film on your hair. I already purchased a back-up of this gel…and it's going to be my holy grail edge control from now on!!!meka.p

Okay. Who did this? Is this a jock? It came unsealed. Fine. My first time to buy this product so I was not sure if that was the norm. But the shock was when I opened it and it is less than half full. No, just no. Not only does this product not hold your hair down but you have to use a beyond ridiculous amount to even achieve a minute amount of edge taming. I purchased this because I wanted to be consistent and use all the products in this line. HUGE mistake! I purchased the other products from another store because Walmart was sold out of what I wanted. All those items are being returned as well. To me, this brand is HIGHLY overrated! It is clear and lightweight; however, It didn't work for my 3C hairdresser type. There was little to no change to my edges. I felt a small amount of irritation after I applied it. So this by itself will not work alone . I suggest adding other John Frieda curl products with it. It does not cut it on its own. But I have tried my other products without it and it definitely ads some definition that it is actually a must to have. Now word of caution use this after using a hair oil while your hair is wet. The John Fredia gel is great. Doesn't leave my hair crunchy but defines my curls great. I scrunch my hair to get great curls and this works as a great help to get better defined curls. This Curl Defining Gel from Living Proof has done wonders for my naturally wavy hair. The area I live in is extremely humid year round. It makes it difficult for me to style my hair without it looking like a hot mess after about 30 minutes outside. Review for full curl line with gel review at end. I have very fine hair that is like wavy where it’s long and 3A curly where it’s short. My hair isn’t thin just fine. My best routine involves leave in and a whipped rich creamy mousse with good hold, wanted to try this tho. I did their silicone detox shampoo first to start fresh. I combed the cream into pretty wet hair as it instructs, not totally dripping but not damp. Then I glazed and scrunched with the gel packet which is not nearly enough to actually get a feel for this line. My hair looked good at that point and I diffused it as per usual and it’s clean, soft and shiny and healthy looking but I give 3 stars for definition and hold. It’s been like 2 hrs and it’s frizzy already. I think I need to try again and really rake the gel in and use more, but the packet doesn’t have enough left. The gel is very slick and smooth I might like it if I can get it to give hold. No crunch with the approx 5ml I used. I took photos but can’t post here.Jlf017

I can't remember the last time I used hair gel (maybe the early 2000's?) Gel was always so sticky and flaky. Fast forward to now. Depending on how my hair is cut, it can get pretty curly at times. So I tried this gel and was pleasantly surprised that there was no sticky feeling, no 'crackle', no residue. It is very lightweight and smooth. Your hands don't get all 'sticky' from using the gel! I used to LOVE this edge control gel as it provided a firm hold for my edges with no flaking or heaviness. Prior to changing the formula, it was also the only edge control gel on the market that truly provided a firm and lasting hold for my edges. Unfortunately, since the formula has changed, I can no longer use this edge gel because it provides no control for my edges, and it leaves my hair feeling greasy. Whereas, I could previously go all day with my edges laid, now I can’t even go an hour with this new formula. As soon as I dipped my finger in this new formula, I could tell that it didn’t have the same level of tackiness as did the old formula. This new formula is no different than the other brands of edge control currently in the market, and is now useless to me. Please bring back the old formula!!Denly

My hair like many others is kind of sensitive to different products and chemicals. I knew Olive Oil products were good I’ve used them all though I did try others before it. I recently got a hair cut to bring in the new year something different. I wanted something to just kinda keep my edges maintained and slicked down but not make them hard or flakey and possibly dry. I absolutely live for this gel! The hydration is real. It works great in combination with the curl activator cream and to be honest I could not use one without the other because they are so complimentary. I also use this when tying my hair up and it helps smooth it without damage. Honestly, hydration is key with my hair!Amy G

I like the smell of this styling gel. It has a light fragrance to it that is not overpowering. I like to use this product when I pull my hair back. I put this on the edges to hold the hair in place. It can hold the grey hair in place as well. Grey hair can sometimes be unruly even when using gel it wants to do it's own thing. I found that it would keep the hair in place after applying it. I like that it is not a heavy gel. My hair is on the thinner side and works well with my grade of hair. Its a really good gel and works well on my curly 3a hair. Its one of the few gels that mixes with the Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Repair Cream which is why I purchased it. I tested it out with my other leave in conditioners and curling creams and it mixed with every single one which is very impressive, Ive never had a gel worked with all my creams before. Just for reference, I tested it with over 20 different products and it passed with all. It has a nice subtle scent and feels like any other hair gel. The other product was a leave in spray and was like water compared to other leavin's that make your hair tangle free. The Hard Gel was no better. Excellent hair gel! I needed something to keep the hair out on my 2 children's eyes. They're 3 and 5 and very active. This stuff works and generally lasts most of the day, as long as they don't fuss with it or sweat excessively. Don't get it too wet or it will completely lose hold. My older son sweats more than my younger one so I can see the difference. It doesn't dry to a helmet-head look. You can tell there's gel in your hair, but it's more natural looking. I also love the smell. It's not particularly masculine which I like. It's a fresh, clean smell… Which I would much rather have on my boys. It's a great product and fantastic value including over a pound of gel. This would pobably last at least a good 6 months with daily use. As long as I need hair gel, this will be my go-to.JT
