Perhaps they have changed the formula. #9 is rarely stocked in stores anymore. It works best on my fine hair which blows in the wind if I don't use it. You rub it into your hair after you shampoo while your hair is still wet. When your hair dries, the hair stays where you combed it until you run a comb or brush through it to take the stiffness out. It will last for about 2 days. It is water soluble and non-greasy. And it is also inexpensive. One bottle will last me more than a month. The squeezable bottle allows you to use every bit of it. was def excited to try a hair gel complimentary from DevaCurl for my honest opinion that claims to be not crunchy. I'm always very skeptical about products that claim to work hair miracles because I've experienced many let downs.. One difference about this is it says to work it in while curls are soaking wet. Yes! Her hair is fly-away frizzy with light curls like mine, and I think she'll appreciate this as I do. Even when I unthinkingly put a cheap gel on first one day (that I usually layer on when my hair is dried), it came out great with the 2 products piggybacked! I used to use the Arc Angel gel and always liked it. I switched to Ouidad, which works great, but if I leave Ouidad on my hair for too many days without washing it, my scalp gets itchy. I saw Deva had changed the formula so I gave it a try. The gel has a nice thick consistency and you don't need a lot, which is great, however, you don't get nearly the definition and shine you used to get with Arc Angel. i love layering this gel on top of innersense i create hold, which is my second topper gel. this ouidad gel pretty much seals and sets my style. the texture is slimy not sticky and creates amazing slip. it has anti humidity ingredients so i would say it does it great job keeping freeze at bay. unless you’re super active (like me lol) then expect your curls to not last too long. overall i would recommend this product! for reference i have 4b tight curls, coarser textures around the nape of my hair.curlyblackgirl
I have tried so many gels from lower price points to high end. I have 2C-3B curls, low porosity and regular porosity strands, shoulder length, and curly bangs. Lots of layers in my hair with the shortest being 2” on top. I particularly love this gel because of its runny consistency, which makes it super easy to glaze and rake through the hair. On top of average 80%+ humidity in summer, I work a job that often causes me to sweat. This gel holds up. I can get away with washing my hair once a week. When I need a refresh, I either simply add water which reactivates the gel or, around mid-week, dampen hair and add more gel. The cast created is buildable – less gel = softer curls with little cast, more gel = stronger cast. I prefer a stronger cast with this product, so I use a dollar coin sized amount THREE times on each side of my hair, working in sections. I say this because some people think this gel doesn’t make a cast, but maybe they aren’t using enough product. It is an expensive gel, but worth every penny for me.cassandra.m
I heard hundreds of recommendations for this gel when I started embracing my natural 2B-3A medium porosity hair. I bought it without question, and even ordered a second bottle (the huge one, too) after the first ran out. I thought the dryness/straw texture my hair got after application was just par for the course with gels since it was my first time ever touching gel. As I learned more about humectants and other ingredients in hair products, I realized that the high glycerin content in this gel is the culprit behind my frizzy locks. Doesn't matter how much or how little gel I put in, my hair frizzes and knots as soon as it's 50% dry and it gets exponentially worse if I apply any while refreshing. For anyone reading: if you live somewhere that's very dry or very humid, avoid humectants like glycerin in the first few ingredients (or at all). Humectants draw moisture from their surroundings, but if the air is dry as bone (like it is where I live), it's going to pull that moisture from your hair (and skin if it's in skin care products) and make it extremely dry. If the air is extremely humid, your hair will feel squishy and icky (and skin will feel oily) if you use products with glycerin in them. All that being said, this is a great gel. It's liquid so it coats hair easily and I never had any problems with it flaking. Its glycerin content is just not right for my environment. If you live in a moderately humid place, this will probably be a fantastic gel for you!Amber

This product is made with vegan ingredients and it has coconut water to help keep your hair in place, healthy, frizz free, scrunched to your desire, and most importantly controlled. This product was my go to product for years. People would stop me and ask me my secret for my soft, perfect curls and I would tell them about this product. However, within the past few months, Garnier completely changed it and now it makes my hair greasy, stringy and frizzy no matter how little or how much product I use. I have not changed any of my hair products in years, so this product is the problem. Now I have to find a new one. I know everything changes eventually, but I am so disappointed. I have been loving this Curl Foaming Gel by VerbxManesbyMell! I have been using this on my wavy/curly hair for the past 5 weeks now and have been loving the results. I personally still like to use this gel with a leave-in (conditioner or primer), and I always finish with an oil. You could definitely use this product as a one and done and it would still work great. I typically diffuse my hair when styling, but I've used this when plopping/air-drying also and have found that it works equally as well with either technique. I use this to touch up and refresh my waves and curls in between wash days. The hold is amazing but the cast is not hard or crunchy at all and is easily broken with a hair oil. If you make sure you're using the correct amount of product for your personal hair and texture, then I do not think you can do any wrong. You also need to be styling with this product on hair that is wet or soaking wet, as that's how it works best.Court

It is paraben, gluten, silicone, and sulfate free, as well as PETA certified cruelty free. The product is also vegan. It does state that it is fragrance free, but it does have a citrus scent to it, but is smells delicious! This product was developed for every curl type, I have 2b/2c hair and this helps tame my frizz and keep my curls looking bouncy and healthy! I braid my hair with oil before I go to bed so I have nice waves for the next day. This product meets all the marks it claims to do. It holds my waves and allows them to last all day. It allows me to shape my waves and get better definition. It keeps my hair frizz free and full of happy waves. I love that the Foaming gel is lightweight and maintains my hair volume and fullness. It defines my waves and makes them last all day without making them crunchy, which is a huge plus in my book. I feel like I should use it again to give it a proper review. But my initial thoughts were this was okay. I have 4a-c curls, low porosity, medium density, fine/medium hair. With that being said, this took FOREVER to dry. But maybe I used too much (1/3 of the bottle). I used it on soaking wet hair for a wash n go but it took 3 days to really dry and it still was wet on the third day. I also had flakes. But I might have used to much. It says firm hold which it’s true because it had a cast, but it’s not really a defining gel? Idk, I felt I had to use a lot to get the results I wanted. Upon opening my free product to review as an Influencer I was happy to see it has no parabens.The enclosed pamphlet about the product claims this gel keeps hair moist and doesn’t dry it out as well as giving my hair more body and shine! Wow and to top it off tame fly aways! Yes please! So I was really excited to try it now! Upon opening it I was struck by the light fresh scent, the product itself is runny, it’s not a thick gel but that’s okay with me. I found it absorbs very quickly in my hair and isn’t sticky at all! My hair felt soft after application, and most importantly for me it didn’t tangle my very long hair! I was very excited what would the results be? So I applied it to my long hair, right after showering. I then combed it through and braided my hair in two braids. When braiding it it didn’t get stuck as often and when it did, no tangles it was smooth and beautiful neat looking braids ! I am impressed! So the next day I woke up and noticed that my braids after sleeping on them looked better than usual. They were not so fuzzy and undone. Still looked pretty nice! I then let my hair down, and it was super soft, it had taken the “curl” from the braids amazing! There’s absolutely no crunchy!!! It’s soft and looked incredible! No residue, either! One thing I don’t like is the cap. It’s a flap really. I think this will definitely replace my DevaCurl gels. This thickening spray is amazing! I have not tried this as a heat protectant spray, I’ve only used this as a hairspray for my curls. I can’t attest to whether this protects as a heat protectant spray, or whether this thickens hair. I’ve worn my hair curly and I already have thick hair! Just got this a couple days ago from #sephora couldn’t hardly wait to try it. I used a generous amount, in sections, on my damp hair (right after the shower….wash day) and let my hair air dry half way, then followed the rest by blow drying it with my on low force, but medium heat. Oh. My. Gawwwww. This stuff is amazing. My hair felt, looked, AND stayed “thick”! It wasn’t sticky or crunchy like most thickening sprays and it smells soooo good. For reference I have for 4a hair in the front and 3b hair in the back of my head. I normally use the regular climbing control gel that gives me hold so I thought this should be even better. That wasn't the case. By day 2 after working out my hair looked a week old(wash n go) with the other gel I get about 4-5 days working out 4-5 times a week. I also had a lot of frizz with this gel. If you're looking for a hair gel that has a super-duper, concrete-like firm hold…this is it. It's also got a pleasant, non-offensive, masculine scent. However, it does take about an hour for this gel to dry at ambient room temperature, once applied. It's like most high end hair styling products. It does what it says it should. I use a pea size blob, a bit of water to emulsify and run through my hair prior to going in with a hair-dryer. Great volume for a high pony tail or any up-do. My son uses it to slick back his hair. Pure gel, no water. There's the usual tacky residue on your hands, brushes and combs. The amount I used was just right and the very next morning (I have my hair air dry in a silk cap overnight) I removed my cap and my hair was so beautiful! It gave the same results as DevaCurl. No residue, either! One thing I don’t like is the cap. It’s a flap really. I think this will definitely replace my DevaCurl gels. It was getting to be very harsh on my highlighted curls (3b/3c) and drying it up at some points. So far I have not seen this happen with Biolage. I also tried this to do a refresh on days where I don’t wash my hair but want to make it look nice and not so frizzy! Comes out great once again. It doesn’t have a strong odor, very faint and you can barely tell there’s any fragrance. Great gel overall – I’d definitely recommend this over DevaCurl products!esther.n
