I really like this product that I discovered randomly. The hold is good, and doesnt stay sticky. Like the smell too. But the packaging is terrible the rotating cap with dispenser allows small amounts to remain on it after closing and leaving sticky stains everywhere.Anonymous

I bought this gel almost a year ago. I just started recently using it since I've cut my hair 3 weeks ago. It's in a pixie cut. This gel has helped with the wet and wavy look as my hair is cut low in the back and sides. I am still getting the hang of .3 curling iron. I usually use a combination of Mielle products for my granddaughter but this time I decided on Moisture RX products only due to being the change of seasons and her hair being a little more dry than normal. She is 13 and often styles her own hair and wants that , "moisturized", look as she says for her twist-outs etc. She is very happy as am I with the results especially trying the overnight conditioner for the first time. I really wanted to like this, but this product did very little for my hair. For reference, I have 2c-3a waves and curls. This product smells very nice, but the texture is very thin and sticky. Well this product does not work well with oil. It turned into white balls all over my hair. It make my scalp itch and flaked really bad. You will get a very hard curl so if this is what you want, it's for you. I would sample a small amount while at home with no other product. I have read endless product reviews, watched countless You Tube Videos regarding care and products for my hair. I have purchased so many products that it is insane, and none fully managed to clump my curls/waves and provide humidity protection.
I use a leave in conditioner applied in the shower to soaking wet hair. I then use a curl primer. I scrunch these products into hair and micro plop to remove excess water. I then apply curl keeper just like gel, using praying hands method to coat each curl. I add more to the crown and smooth over waves. I then plop for 10-30 minutes depending on if I’m air drying or diffusing.
I actually prefer to air dry and this product allows that, though it takes hours to dry. Can form a slight cast which I actually love. Once fully dry any crunch is easily scrunched out. I NEVER have shine in my hair due to the coarse texture but with this my curls are defined and shiny. Best part is that even in high humidity this holds perfectly.
I cannot speak to 2nd or 3rd day hair as I haven’t been able to test this part yet.

This a light gel with a soft yet fitm hold leaving you with touchable curls. No crunch. Great scent. This gel is best suited for use on one product wash n go's…..meaning layer the gel on top of an oil only- no leave in. Most issues with flaking only occur with incompatible products or product lines. Definitely worth for the price. 18.5 ounces for under $5. Fairly clean ingredients. No parabens or petroleum. Will definitely repurchase. It's a new staple for me!Angela

This product is a lighter texture to help lay down some of the frizz of your hair. This product dries at a decent rate and it keeps your edges in place. For those who likes an extra hold on there edges I would recommend applying more than one layer. All in all in this product is good. It’s good to use on wigs and natural hair.London

I am going to give it a 3 since I couldn’t give it a 3.5. The Defining Gel has a great non-sticky appeal. Neither my hands nor my hair felt heavy, coated or sticky but it did have some “crunchy” pieces. I don’t like that crunchy gel feeling in my hair. My hair wasn’t curly after using the diffuser as it is with another product I use. It was just barely waves. I will try it again with a different diffuser and see what happens. This gel is great for wash n gos, updos, and laying edges. My wash n gos come out super defined and I get big hair as my style gets old. Then I’ll use this gel to slick up my hair into a puff/bun. I’ve tried many edge controls and none of them last past 2 hours then my edges would start to curl up. But with this gel, I apply it and lay my edges, tie a satin scarf around them, set for 10 minutes, and I’m good to go for the whole day. This curl cream would be great for you if you’re not looking to have too much hold in your hair. It’s thick, but it doesn’t create a very strong cast for me. As you can see, my hair is already frizzing at the roots and it’s not completely dry yet. There’s no cast to scrunch out. The pump is also really hard to use and only dispenses like a dime size of product with each pump, which means I need to pump twice just to get enough for one section of hair. It is very hydrating, so I can’t knock it down too much, but it is probably my least favorite ouidad product, which is saying a lot because I LOVE ouidad. I gave it three stars because it doesn’t really work that well with my curly hair. I just started used ouidad products so there’s a learning curve. I have coily and s shaped curls. It’s a blend of two different types of curls. The gel would work very well for someone whose hair is not coily like mine. I need something a bit different or stronger. I would say that in comparison to million other products that I have tried, it’s one of the better ones. It doesn’t make my hair feel crunchy which is great. I've struggled with finding products to tame my type 3B curls for as long as I can remember. I have tried mousse, leave-in conditioners, gels, and all kinds of creams. The product is a clear gel and you need only use a dime or quarter size amount depending on how thick/long your hair is. The product has a very natural, floral smell that doesn't overwhelm you. I use this product every day with my Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Leave In Conditioning Cream and they work extremely well together. This lightweight gel helps tame frizz while also letting the curls keep their natural shape without any crunchiness or residue. I have used this gel for over a year now and it has become a staple in my hair-care products. The product locks moisture in your hair and leaves it hydrated all day. A bottle of this product lasts me about three-four months. This product really does it all when it comes to taming frizz and moisturizing curly hair, but that is to be expected given that the bottle is almost $30 for only 8.5 FL. OZ. When you think about it, this high price does get to be too expensive for a smaller bottle when you use this product on a daily basis, but I have yet to find any other products that work as well as this one does with my hair. I recommend this product to every curly-haired person I know! I appreciate the way this Cantu Flaxseed gel works on curls. My hair is more wavy than curly but it actually softens the look a bit. It is not heavy or stiff on your hair either. I love that it has natural things like Aloe, Shea butter and Vitamin E in it so you know there aren't harsh chemicals on your hair. It doesn't smell and is easy to apply. I’ve used it with different products and alone and NOPE…every single time by the next day my curls turned into a frizzy weighed down mess sadly. I bought the 2oz bottle, not a gallon but there's no option for it. So I used the sample sachet of the unscented version and I thought it was good sulfate-free shampoo. I wanted to try a scented one so I bought the 2oz Island Fantasy and I don’t know what went wrong. I had to use way more of the shampoo this time around to even get enough to work through to my scalp. When I rinsed it out this time it felt like my hair was stripped and squeaky and my roots felt tangled. When I used the unscented sample it was soft and felt smooth in my hair when rinsing out. I followed this up with my usual go-to Dove intense moisture conditioner and my hair is not drying the same. It looks dry, feels dry, and the frizz has been real. I’ve been trying to tame it by twisting and clipping it up in a bun all day because of how bad my hair has been looking. Is there a difference between the unscented and Island Fantasy? Really sucks because I’ve been wanting to find a good sulfate-free shampoo to use in between normal sulfate washes, but it seems like none of Jessicurl products work for me.julia.s

One of the things about gels that I run into is it not being being 100% compatible with very season. Some gels are good for all year round, while some gels work their magic best in certain seasons, but this gel right here work’s it’s magic no matter the season or whatever may come up, where your hair needs strong hold and ultimate frizz protection that you can count on truly all day long. This gel is glycerin free, for those who may be interested in such. It does contain alcohol listed as its last ingredient, but alcohol is actually a component t of one of the polyquat’s used in this product. So, alcohol isn’t added separately to this product, for those that may have been wondering. It is on 7/10ths of this product. Also, you do not smell any traces of such when you smell this product at all. The fragrance free version comes completely fragrance free, and this gel has a lightweight consistency (but is not runny), it dries clear, it doesn’t flake, and it gives y hair hold fit more than one day, which for me is a miracle, because with most stylers that I use, I have to refresh my hair with more styling product ASAP every morning. Because, after I sleep on my hair, even with a satin bonnet on, my hair typically be needing some extra help in the mornings, for sure. But, the hold on this product is fantastic. I can use this product on both wet and dry hair without any problems, but I do choose to use Jessicurl’s hairspray (which is alcohol free) to give my hair a quick pick me up or to take flyaways that may pop up in between my hair wash day. They do have a curl refresher within the Jessicurl line, but it just isn’t best suited for my hair unfortunately. But, their hair spray on the other hand works so much better at reviving my hair, whenever needed. This is a very universal gel that was created for all curltypes, all hair textures, and definitely for all races. So, if you haven’t given Jessicurl a try yet, I’d highly recommend checking out all that they have to offer and what products may suit your wavy, curly, or coily hair best for sure!sybil.w

Maybe I just have the worst luck with hair products or something because it’s such a struggle to find anything that actually works. I purchased a small 2oz bottle of this deep conditioner and I don’t understand what’s deep conditioning about it. It’s super-duper thick and hard to get out of the bottle which seemed like a good thing if it was moisturizing at all. The smell was nice and light but had a hint of a weird crayon smell that the other unscented Jessicurl products have. It had no slip and I was already kind of worried that it would not be moisturizing. I left it on and put a cap on for 30 ish minutes with a towel wrapped around my head to trap heat in. I also periodically used the blow dryer to heat it up inside the towel. I rinsed it all out and then put some argan oil and OGX Moroccan oil and wrapped my hair with a Tshirt. When I was letting it air dry after that, I could tell things were going south with how crispy and frayed my ends were looking. I JUST trimmed my ends a week before as well so this shouldn’t have happened if I deep conditioned my hair. During the drying process, my hair frizzed up a lot and looked super dry and crispy. My ends felt crispy and my ends were a tangled mess. I tried to smooth out my frizzy waves but it was still a terrible mess (photo on the right).julia.s

If you're looking for a hair gel that has a super-duper, concrete-like firm hold…this is it. It's also got a pleasant, non-offensive, masculine scent. It's easy to spread throughout the hair (unlike some of the other "ultra firm" hold hair gels) and you can easily thin out the gel with some water. However, it does take about an hour for this gel to dry at ambient room temperature, once applied. Just note that if you're looking to transfer the gel into another bottle (like a travel bottle), the scent disappears quickly and it starts to take on a weird consistency. Keep it in the original bottle or buy a smaller bottle size. And if you're keeping it on your bathroom counter, look into buying a pump. Its smooth and rich in texture and leaves your hair a little crunchy while firmly holding hair in place.. but it's just to expensive. I can get the same quality hair care If not less from a local grocery store for 75% less. I would use this product all the time, I just wish it was more affordable. It's like most high end hair styling products. It does what it says it should. I use a pea size blob, a bit of water to emulsify and run through my hair prior to going in with a hair-dryer. Great volume for a high pony tail or any up-do. My son uses it to slick back his hair. Pure gel, no water. There's the usual tacky residue on your hands, brushes and combs. I feel like I should use it again to give it a proper review. But my initial thoughts were this was okay. I have 4a-c curls, low porosity, medium density, fine/medium hair. With that being said, this took FOREVER to dry. But maybe I used too much (1/3 of the bottle). I used it on soaking wet hair for a wash n go but it took 3 days to really dry and it still was wet on the third day. I also had flakes. But I might have used to much. Upon opening my free product to review as an Influencer I was happy to see it has no parabens.The enclosed pamphlet about the product claims this gel keeps hair moist and doesn’t dry it out as well as giving my hair more body and shine! Wow and to top it off tame fly aways! Yes please! So I was really excited to try it now! Upon opening it I was struck by the light fresh scent, the product itself is runny, it’s not a thick gel but that’s okay with me. I found it absorbs very quickly in my hair and isn’t sticky at all! My hair felt soft after application, and most importantly for me it didn’t tangle my very long hair! I was very excited what would the results be? So I applied it to my long hair, right after showering. I then combed it through and braided my hair in two braids. When braiding it it didn’t get stuck as often and when it did, no tangles it was smooth and beautiful neat looking braids ! I am impressed! So the next day I woke up and noticed that my braids after sleeping on them looked better than usual. They were not so fuzzy and undone. Still looked pretty nice! I then let my hair down, and it was super soft, it had taken the “curl” from the braids amazing! There’s absolutely no crunchy!!! It’s soft and looked incredible! I didn’t expect much from this gel. I currently use either John Frieda mousse or DevaCurl ArcAnGel when I want a stronger hold. I used this a few times now, and I really like the results. I continue my same routine: wash hair, apply leave-in conditioner and a frizz ease serum, then apply gel. I tried biolage’s gel instead of my own gel. I used just about a quarter sized amount because the gel felt a little heavy. The amount I used was just right and the very next morning (I have my hair air dry in a silk cap overnight) I removed my cap and my hair was so beautiful! It gave the same results as DevaCurl. No residue, either! One thing I don’t like is the cap. It’s a flap really. I think this will definitely replace my DevaCurl gels. It was getting to be very harsh on my highlighted curls (3b/3c) and drying it up at some points. So far I have not seen this happen with Biolage. I also tried this to do a refresh on days where I don’t wash my hair but want to make it look nice and not so frizzy! Comes out great once again. It doesn’t have a strong odor, very faint and you can barely tell there’s any fragrance. Great gel overall – I’d definitely recommend this over DevaCurl products!esther.n

I like the smell of this styling gel. It has a light fragrance to it that is not overpowering. I like to use this product when I pull my hair back. I put this on the edges to hold the hair in place. It can hold the grey hair in place as well. Grey hair can sometimes be unruly even when using gel it wants to do it's own thing. I found that it would keep the hair in place after applying it. I like that it is not a heavy gel. My hair is on the thinner side and works well with my grade of hair. Its a really good gel and works well on my curly 3a hair. Its one of the few gels that mixes with the Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Repair Cream which is why I purchased it. I tested it out with my other leave in conditioners and curling creams and it mixed with every single one which is very impressive, Ive never had a gel worked with all my creams before. Just for reference, I tested it with over 20 different products and it passed with all. It has a nice subtle scent and feels like any other hair gel. I'm a natural with 4a/4b hair that mainly does wash n goes. I wanted a gel to layer for hold that had better ingredients than eco and wetline. I planned to use this as a topper. I've experienced that this product offers great hold, it does not control frizz very well due to the light/watery consistency. I used a botanical gel underneath and I think my hair would have had more frizz control if I used it on damp hair vs. soaking wet. I feel as if my hair dried quicker while using this product (I did sit under the hooded dryer) and the application was super easy. I felt that it had slip due to the consistency. The hold that this gives is correct. I would describe it as a firm-medium. Definitely not a strong hold. And I would agree with the reviewer that said the curls need to be sculpted beforehand. This is not going to give you much definition alone. Use this for additional hold and control. Overall, I think I would purchase again and I'm interested in trying their strong hold gel.Jasmine

I love this product. After my leave-in I usually have a few tangles, but when I use this cream instead of my usual cream, it gave me the best slip and gets all the tangles out that my leave in did not attack, and I had no frizz. It cut my wash day in half. It used to take me an hour in a half to do my hair (tangles, ugh!), now it only takes 45 – 50 minutes. My curls were so hydrated and defined. I just love this product. Don't let the size of the bottle make you think you need a bigger bottle because a little is all you need…about the size of a quarter if you're doing sections (I do 4 sections) but use it according to your hair density. My hair is a thick density on the top (this was great for that) and my hair is 3C/4A. It works perfect my sista's. Try it. Also, I noticed it has shea butter in it…a major plus for moisture. My process is LCG, I have oil that I use after wash day, but I tell you with this cream, you really don't need it. I didn't. Curl Talk don't ever change the formula!Robbin-Lynn

I have type 3c/3b Hair so I am always needing a good hair gel. I do like the original gel in this curl talk line. It provides adequate hold. Once this gel was introduced, I knew I had to try it. It does have a sticky consistency. But I am sure that is what helps the gel give that extra hold. You will have a hard cast on your hair once it is dry, but u can always break the cast if u want to. This gel holds up to humidity well. My advice since it is so sticky to the touch and to avoid tangling your hair is to apply your typical styling products before hand, and add this gel at the very last. It will be easier to work through the hair and wont leave a tangles mess. This is not a good gel if you feel like refreshing or combing out your hair the next day, just cause the extra hold that it does give.
