I have heat damaged hair as you can see from the color on down. I’m still learning how to care for my natural curls and this product worked great. On wet hair the ginger smell is strong and the hair (damaged parts) were crunchy. My roots were nice and soft. My favorite this about this gel is how soft it makes my hair. It's very hydrating and conditioning to the hair, every time I use this my curls are very soft and bouncy. I have mixed it with several other leave in conditioners and creams, both from the same brand and from other brands, and I have found it mixes well with a few different products. It doesn't mix with everything, test it in your hands first, but I found a few good combos with this gel. It also gives my hair good shine, I really loved that. My wash n go's always lasted a few days with this gel. I wish it had a little more hold, I'd say this is like medium hold. It didn't give a strong cast, which may or may not be a good thing depending on your preference. Even without strong hold, it's still a great and dependable gel. I want to do an honest review of this product even if I saw it on Instagram so much. First of all, I think you have to know what works on your hair and this is good for low porosity hair because it doesn’t contain protein, or at least in a very low dosage. It’s holes to her very much, but at the same time in my hair, it feels like he doesn’t have a hold strong. It’s leaves my hair and my curls. Perfect for at least five minutes and then my hair became crazy and greasy. I don’t think this is a problem of this product at all but in my hair, it works like that I still think that the composition and the quality of this product is great. I really think you have to try it and decide that’s if you have low porosity hair I recommend it. This is a fantastic hair gel for curly hair (or any other hair too, I suppose). It only takes the smallest little amount and is super thick, so I mix it in the palm of my hand with a little water to help it disperse easier throughout the hair and go farther. When my hair is more dry, this needs some moisturizing help, so I will put 3 drops of jojoba oil in my palm and then the little dab of this gel, and mix it around (with or without extra water) before applying. I was looking for a gel that I can use for my curly hair that wont leave my hair feeling crunchy or weigh my curls down or the worst leaving me looking greasy! For reference, I have thin wavy/curly hair that tends to suffer and frizz in humid weather. This product ticks all the boxes. I usually use this on damp hair after applying my leave in. I use a small dime sized amount. Then I use a cotton tshirt and keep scrunching my curls until its almost dry. I have a 2b/2c all the way up to 3a and 3b curls (so a mixture naturally) and I find no matter if I use more of it or less, it leaves some sections stringy one moment then I end up somehow liking it more after a few days but after a few hours it looked like the definition had lost its hold on wash day? I haven't owned anything like it. .Not to do with the product itself but superdrug bro you know too well you're ripping people off with this when the hair and beauty supply shops are selling this for a much better price margin. Go to any black owned beauty supply and they have this for a lot better value for money. Overall, this product is not terrible. It hasn't done my hair harm. The most disappointing thing to me about this was the hold. It is super thick yet I find I have to put quite a good amount of this on. It looked like it was going to come out amazing the second time I used this when wet but when it was diffused and dried and I scrunched out the cast it was defined, but not as good as I expected given all the effort I put into it. I did not settle for mediocre results. I also noticed that when I put my hair up the wispy hairs around my face were all sticking out. The loreal invishold normal strength gel gives me much more superior results and I haven't had any of these problems with that product. I use this gel everyday, I can’t live without it. I always buy a big container so that it lasts long which usually lasts me a minimum of 3 months for a great price too. What I like about it is the hold and the slickness it gives me. I like that it doesn’t dry out my hair like some other gels I’ve used abs still gives me the hold. i love layering this gel on top of innersense i create hold, which is my second topper gel. this ouidad gel pretty much seals and sets my style. the texture is slimy not sticky and creates amazing slip. it has anti humidity ingredients so i would say it does it great job keeping freeze at bay. unless you’re super active (like me lol) then expect your curls to not last too long. overall i would recommend this product! for reference i have 4b tight curls, coarser textures around the nape of my hair.curlyblackgirl

I have tried so many gels from lower price points to high end. I have 2C-3B curls, low porosity and regular porosity strands, shoulder length, and curly bangs. Lots of layers in my hair with the shortest being 2” on top. I particularly love this gel because of its runny consistency, which makes it super easy to glaze and rake through the hair. On top of average 80%+ humidity in summer, I work a job that often causes me to sweat. This gel holds up. I can get away with washing my hair once a week. When I need a refresh, I either simply add water which reactivates the gel or, around mid-week, dampen hair and add more gel. The cast created is buildable – less gel = softer curls with little cast, more gel = stronger cast. I prefer a stronger cast with this product, so I use a dollar coin sized amount THREE times on each side of my hair, working in sections. I say this because some people think this gel doesn’t make a cast, but maybe they aren’t using enough product. It is an expensive gel, but worth every penny for me.cassandra.m

I heard hundreds of recommendations for this gel when I started embracing my natural 2B-3A medium porosity hair. I bought it without question, and even ordered a second bottle (the huge one, too) after the first ran out. I thought the dryness/straw texture my hair got after application was just par for the course with gels since it was my first time ever touching gel. As I learned more about humectants and other ingredients in hair products, I realized that the high glycerin content in this gel is the culprit behind my frizzy locks. Doesn't matter how much or how little gel I put in, my hair frizzes and knots as soon as it's 50% dry and it gets exponentially worse if I apply any while refreshing. For anyone reading: if you live somewhere that's very dry or very humid, avoid humectants like glycerin in the first few ingredients (or at all). Humectants draw moisture from their surroundings, but if the air is dry as bone (like it is where I live), it's going to pull that moisture from your hair (and skin if it's in skin care products) and make it extremely dry. If the air is extremely humid, your hair will feel squishy and icky (and skin will feel oily) if you use products with glycerin in them. All that being said, this is a great gel. It's liquid so it coats hair easily and I never had any problems with it flaking. Its glycerin content is just not right for my environment. If you live in a moderately humid place, this will probably be a fantastic gel for you!Amber

This is the one and only gel that works for my hair!!!! What happened to it!?!?! I love layering this Gel after using Shea Moisture's 100% coconut oil Leave-in Treatment with Shea Moisture's Miracle Styler (different line) after my rinse-out conditioner. I LOVE the Keratin in the Leave-in and tiny bit of protein in this Gel as well! Tbh this line by Shea Moisture is perfection!!! Love the shampoo and conditioner in this line as well…no protein in those but a great moisturizing wash combo. On my "gentle clarify" washes (Soapbox Tea Tree shampoo + conditioner) I follow with Shea Moisture's Raw Shea Butter Deep Moisture Treatment as my deep condition. LOVE these combo of products!!! This review will be about the same as far the shampoo. On my very long thin wavy hair, this conditioner is just too heavy. I only apply conditioner from mid length to ends so I can avoid my scalp getting oily too fast. This conditioner does an okay job of taking frizz and it smells great so those are the positives. The negatives are just that, on thin hair, it is too heavy and makes my hair appear dirty the next day. I usually style my hair with mousse or gel before blow drying and I can’t even do that because my hair will look immediately dirty and stringy. I don’t mind using this system if I’m wearing my hair up and taking a break from heat styling. But because I wear my hair down all the time, it’s just not the best system for me personally. I’d recommend this shampoo and conditioner to someone with very dry or frizzy hair; but they would need to have nice dense thick hair to avoid dirty looking hair the next day.erin.g

I have 3B curls. It works beautifully for curl definition and hold. It dries quickly without a diffuser in the desert heat. It does not leave a residue or crunchiness. I love the smell of this product. It smells fruity but also like perfume or cologne which lingers on my hair all week. The only problem I have with this product is that it’s so sticky and I need to use A LOT of water to make it work. I use this only when I use another Curls defining jelly as well so only in that combination does it give me good results. It also lasts forever because the size of the tub is so big. Backstory: I have mostly 4c hair with 2 other textures and I first tried the gel in the black top (assuming that its the orginal) and it definitely did great defining my curls with a wash and go but after day two, I noticed little white flakes in my hair so I decided to stop using it after full use. (had to get my money's worth) So I began to explore other brands of styling but none of them gave definition and shine like this gel. So eventually I gave this another shot and I noticed that Ulta had a different version of it so I decided to test this one out but this one was actually worse. It made my hair extremely flaky the next day and completely dry and itchy so I had to return it. P.S. I also mixed with the brand leave in conditioner as well and try it without conditioner with the styling gel.BB

A little goes a long way! This is very thick and not just full of water like cheaper gells. There are cheaper hair gels, but you need to use 2-3 times the amount than you do for this. This is great for short hair that needs to stay in place. I don't recommend this for longer hair that you might touch and move around throughout the day because this gel does flake if it is combed through. This gel definitely has a men's "woodsy" type of scent, which I like.JC

I bought this gel almost a year ago. I just started recently using it since I've cut my hair 3 weeks ago. It's in a pixie cut. This gel has helped with the wet and wavy look as my hair is cut low in the back and sides. I am still getting the hang of .3 curling iron. I usually use a combination of Mielle products for my granddaughter but this time I decided on Moisture RX products only due to being the change of seasons and her hair being a little more dry than normal. I am pretty brand loyal when it comes to my haircare, but every now and again if a product is amazing enough from another line , I will cheat on my usual and dip into the other line for that product. I use the regular Moroccan oil treatment but there is also a light for those with finer hair , more oily , sleek type ,thinner hair that this regular one might be a little heavy for. I also apply this to dry hairz over my midshaft and ends when I feel they could use a little TLC . If theyre looking a little dry maybe just a little bit of this run through it and it will make your hair feel all soft and loveable again. I like the smell, it isnt anything strong or overpowering. This is the only hair product I do use from Moroccan oil, I am sure they do have other good products but at that price point and already being happy with my current hair care routine, Ive never felt the need to try them and I feel that this product here is their Holy Grail so to speak, like the 1 amazing stand out product where they are at the top of their game. I really love using this stuff. I have for years. My original favorite was Chi Silk Infusions and I still like that stuff but I feel this does the job better. So basically youd use something like this for heat and uv protection as well as moisture and shine. Mostly I use it for getting some moisture back in my really parched, heat abused hair for a nice, healthy and naturally shiny look. Using products like that can go wrong really fast. You can cross the line into greasy mess from shiny tresses quick. You can do that with this too if you use too much but a lot of products do that no matter how little you use. This lasts forever because even with the thickest and driest hair needs only a dime size or less warmed between the palms and lightly rubbed through every layer from root to ends with finger tips open to get every strand focusing on the ends. Ive noticed that it gives me life back to my hair. It gives me that naturally healthy movement you just dont get with fried hair. With this and changing my hair habits I have come almost all the way back from totally broken hair to healthy hair thats a little dry and has split ends. And with my current issues it makes it look like I have none. Especially when I flat iron my hair with this as a heat protectant it almost seals the cuticle completely and keeps my hair looking super healthy until my next wash. I also use it randomly to add a touch of moisture back into my hair if its really dry. Or if my ends are getting bad between trims I use this and flat iron them to seal them and make them look healthy temporarily. It also smells amazing. I love the comforting and unique almost but not quite tropical scent. Its very unique and very feminine without being like a perfume. It makes my hair smell fresh and pretty and that scent lasts for a couple days. Overall it is a little expensive but it lasts a long time so it ends up costing almost the same as the drugstore over time because if does last so long. Its just more of an initial investment. A sephora employee told me this stuff actually is bad for your hair and dries it out but I dont think it would have gotten so famous if it wasnt so great for so many people. Maybe she just had a bad experience. It wouldnt have been the first time I had been given bad information by a Sephora employee but I just thought Id mention it. I totally recommend. Lets just say, I love Morrocanoil and have for years the product has always been consistently the same until I tried the bottle from this seller.This does not smell or feel like MoroccanoilI love my normal Morrocanoil because its Lux, silky smooth and has a specific color and wonderful smell. This product was not any of those things it was tacky it stuck to my hands and didnt glide through my hair and made my hair feel rough. It had a nice smell but not the Moroccanoil scent.I still have some Moroccanoil from my last bottle and even the color is different.This new product is not good. Not sure if I just got an off bottle or what has happened.I read over the label and it said nothing about a new formula. All I can say is this is not the signature Morrocanoil and its not a good product. It feels like castoroil.I liked the price and thats why I ordered from this seller but next time I will just pay full price at the salon because I know what Im getting.It even wasnt in its signature box or had the same colored label so that makes me more curious.I couldnt find a way to contact the seller I went to the reorder page and the sellers name was different then this one. I have 2C, high density, coarse, porous, long hair. Since adding heavy highlights to blend the grays, my hair has been a dry, frizzy nightmare! I have read endless product reviews, watched countless You Tube Videos regarding care and products for my hair. I have purchased so many products that it is insane, and none fully managed to clump my curls/waves and provide humidity protection.
I use a leave in conditioner applied in the shower to soaking wet hair. I then use a curl primer. I scrunch these products into hair and micro plop to remove excess water. I then apply curl keeper just like gel, using praying hands method to coat each curl. I add more to the crown and smooth over waves. I then plop for 10-30 minutes depending on if I’m air drying or diffusing.
I actually prefer to air dry and this product allows that, though it takes hours to dry. Can form a slight cast which I actually love. Once fully dry any crunch is easily scrunched out. I NEVER have shine in my hair due to the coarse texture but with this my curls are defined and shiny. Best part is that even in high humidity this holds perfectly.
I cannot speak to 2nd or 3rd day hair as I haven’t been able to test this part yet.

This curl cream would be great for you if you’re not looking to have too much hold in your hair. It’s thick, but it doesn’t create a very strong cast for me. As you can see, my hair is already frizzing at the roots and it’s not completely dry yet. There’s no cast to scrunch out. The pump is also really hard to use and only dispenses like a dime size of product with each pump, which means I need to pump twice just to get enough for one section of hair. It is very hydrating, so I can’t knock it down too much, but it is probably my least favorite ouidad product, which is saying a lot because I LOVE ouidad. I gave it three stars because it doesn’t really work that well with my curly hair. I just started used ouidad products so there’s a learning curve. I have coily and s shaped curls. It’s a blend of two different types of curls. The gel would work very well for someone whose hair is not coily like mine. I need something a bit different or stronger. I would say that in comparison to million other products that I have tried, it’s one of the better ones. It doesn’t make my hair feel crunchy which is great. I've struggled with finding products to tame my type 3B curls for as long as I can remember. I have tried mousse, leave-in conditioners, gels, and all kinds of creams. The product is a clear gel and you need only use a dime or quarter size amount depending on how thick/long your hair is. The product has a very natural, floral smell that doesn't overwhelm you. I use this product every day with my Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Leave In Conditioning Cream and they work extremely well together. This lightweight gel helps tame frizz while also letting the curls keep their natural shape without any crunchiness or residue. I have used this gel for over a year now and it has become a staple in my hair-care products. The product locks moisture in your hair and leaves it hydrated all day. A bottle of this product lasts me about three-four months. This product really does it all when it comes to taming frizz and moisturizing curly hair, but that is to be expected given that the bottle is almost $30 for only 8.5 FL. OZ. When you think about it, this high price does get to be too expensive for a smaller bottle when you use this product on a daily basis, but I have yet to find any other products that work as well as this one does with my hair. I recommend this product to every curly-haired person I know! It has made styling my hair so much easier, hydrating and holding my curl all in one product so that I don't have to use multiple products to get the right mix of hydration and holding power.Susan

I bought this product in-store about a month ago and have spent the last two weeks recovering from the severe reaction that stemmed from it. After looking up the ingredients on the package, I realized too late that there are a few key irritants in the product that reacted negatively to my skin. My symptoms include scalp irritation and tenderness, face sores, and intense swelling around my right eye. I would highly recommend steering clear from this product and brand. I'm sure Ulta has plenty of other safer options that won't potentially damage your vision.Brandi

I received this product from Influenster as a sample to try. I gave 3 stars to try and keep it neutral. I’ve never been big when it comes to hair products like mousse, gels, hairspray, etc. I don’t like my hair to be crunchy, stiff or sticky. I also don’t really have curly hair…it’s actually wavy but even more so naturally frizzy and I usually straighten it or braid it. I tried it because I love the first product that I tried by the same company which is the oil mist. But unfortunately I didn’t like the gel for the reasons I stated above. Maybe because my hair isn’t really curly that neither the mousse or gel accentuated the curls. I did like the packaging and the scent was pleasant but not overpowering.
