20 Best Hair Grease For Dry Scalp (Feb 2023 Update)

I like this oil… but I do find it a little outrageously priced compared to other argan oil treatments. Because of this, I only use it once in a while as a treat rather than daily. However, I do love that it comes in different sizes because I love the smaller ones for travel andor keeping in my gym bag. I usually just massage a dime size amount through my hair from my ears to the ends when wet and then it makes my hair very soft and silklike once dry. I just wish the smaller size bottles came with a pump because having to pour the oil into your palm makes portion control and messfree dispensing a hassle. I would consider this oil to be more heavy than lightweight, so you need to be cautious not to use too much product otherwise it will leave your hair looking and feeling greasy. I also wish it had some sort of heat protection element to it… for the price, I feel like I shouldnt have to use a separate heat protection product on top of the oil. The scent is nice and not too strong. It does make my hair feel healthier and stronger, but it could be better for reducing frizz. Overall its a good product, but I feel like there are other oils which are of equal or better quality for a fraction of the cost.Anonymous

I am pretty brand loyal when it comes to my haircare, but every now and again if a product is amazing enough from another line , I will cheat on my usual and dip into the other line for that product. This is one of them The Moroccan Oil Treatment oil, which I feel is their most popular product that lead the way for this brand I think lol yes it is expensive, yes I get it cheaper because I am a liscenced professional lol but, when it comes to these higher end hair products , usually,you get what you pay for. It is worth the expensive price tag. There are some expensive hair products that I feel are not worth it and are way too overpriced for what they actually do and I am always very honest in my reviews on hair care because I live and breathe hair , its my profession, its what I love and I love to help people achieve hair they love, so if that means being honest and saying hey this product isnt worth it or its crap OR hey , this is not a brand I retail at work BUT Ive used it and I love it and recommend it even if u need to buy it elsewhere and I dont really achieve much for myself, what I want to achieve is to educate people on hair hair products and what works for them . So I am always honest when clients ask me about Moroccan oil.. that no we dont carry it but it is something I love and use everyday.it gives my hair amazing shine, it makes it feel soft and silky and just glides on over those little split ends like they are there, it helps tame frizz and flyaways and its a treatment that actually is beneficial to your hair. The bottle is on the small side but a little goes a LONG way unless you want to look like you stuck your hair in some grease than by all means lol but seriously a tiny bit, rub in your palms and rub jtno your hair , focusing on the ends and midshaft scalp will just make u oily I have naturally curly hair that is prone to dryness, it gets frizzy , its thick. I use the regular Moroccan oil treatment but there is also a light for those with finer hair , more oily , sleek type ,thinner hair that this regular one might be a little heavy for. I also apply this to dry hairz over my midshaft and ends when I feel they could use a little TLC . If theyre looking a little dry maybe just a little bit of this run through it and it will make your hair feel all soft and loveable again. I like the smell, it isnt anything strong or overpowering. This is the only hair product I do use from Moroccan oil, I am sure they do have other good products but at that price point and already being happy with my current hair care routine, Ive never felt the need to try them and I feel that this product here is their Holy Grail so to speak, like the 1 amazing stand out product where they are at the top of their game. I really love using this stuff. I have for years. My original favorite was Chi Silk Infusions and I still like that stuff but I feel this does the job better. So basically youd use something like this for heat and uv protection as well as moisture and shine. Mostly I use it for getting some moisture back in my really parched, heat abused hair for a nice, healthy and naturally shiny look. Using products like that can go wrong really fast. You can cross the line into greasy mess from shiny tresses quick. You can do that with this too if you use too much but a lot of products do that no matter how little you use. This lasts forever because even with the thickest and driest hair needs only a dime size or less warmed between the palms and lightly rubbed through every layer from root to ends with finger tips open to get every strand focusing on the ends. Ive noticed that it gives me life back to my hair. It gives me that naturally healthy movement you just dont get with fried hair. With this and changing my hair habits I have come almost all the way back from totally broken hair to healthy hair thats a little dry and has split ends. And with my current issues it makes it look like I have none. Especially when I flat iron my hair with this as a heat protectant it almost seals the cuticle completely and keeps my hair looking super healthy until my next wash. I also use it randomly to add a touch of moisture back into my hair if its really dry. Or if my ends are getting bad between trims I use this and flat iron them to seal them and make them look healthy temporarily. It also smells amazing. I love the comforting and unique almost but not quite tropical scent. Its very unique and very feminine without being like a perfume. It makes my hair smell fresh and pretty and that scent lasts for a couple days. Overall it is a little expensive but it lasts a long time so it ends up costing almost the same as the drugstore over time because if does last so long. Its just more of an initial investment. A sephora employee told me this stuff actually is bad for your hair and dries it out but I dont think it would have gotten so famous if it wasnt so great for so many people. Maybe she just had a bad experience. It wouldnt have been the first time I had been given bad information by a Sephora employee but I just thought Id mention it. I totally recommend. But only buy from authorized retailers like salons or stores like sephora, macys, and other high end retailers or it will most likely be a fake.Anonymous

I recently started trying the Moroccan Oil oily scalp treatment a few times a week right before wash day. I leave it on for about 5 minutes each time and gently move the product around by massaging it into the scalp. It is not oily and feels like a serum for your scalp. I feel that we always forget how important our scalp is so I’m glad I started incorporating this into my pre-wash routine. I have a very oily scalp as I have combination skin. I have noticed that after using this treatment my scalp feels more balanced though still a bit oily and soothed. Since my scalp is oily I tend to use a lot of dry shampoo which tends to build up so using a treatment to get rid of this build up I believe has helped in the last few weeks! First of all, let me start by saying I have VERY oily roots. I get oily the day after washing my hair and usually have to wash it everyday or every other day (not good i know but i can’t stand being greasy). I also have dry ends to make things worse. When I tried this, my scalp felt really fresh and my roots were voluminous and full. It was easy to use and didn’t feel heavy at all. Felt super nice and cooling. I did not really notice a significant change in oiliness though. I still got fairly oily the next day but that could just be that i’m too oily? I don’t know. What I can say is this helped with volume and my scalp felt clean and purified. It didn’t feel stripped or dehydrate which I like because usually a lot of oily hair or clarifying products are super drying. This one didn’t feel bad on my dry ends either. Overall, I like it. But Would I call it a holy grail? Probably not. However everyone’s different so maybe this could work for you if your hair isn’t as oily as mine! So I rate it a 7/10!!Julia120

I have struggled with hair confidence my entire life. I have average hair, but overall it is thin and fine and prone to damaged ends even without coloring. My biggest struggle though has always been that I have almost no natural volume and very straight smooth textured hair, which makes styling a nightmare, For the longest time I showered and blow-dried and curled and teased every single day. About 8 years ago I learned that people with often oily scalps could benefit from washing their hair less often and I started to train my hair for fewer washes. For the last 4 years or so I've been washing my hair at most once a week using high quality products but I still struggled with heavy roots and oily scalp and difficulty adding texture without damaging my hair more. A year and a half ago I read somewhere that extra hydration and more focus on my scalp/roots could help me in my specific situation as maybe my hair is overproducing what I'm not giving it enough of and I decided to try Moroccan Oil products. The Moisture Repair shampoo and conditioner felt great and definitely made my hair and scalp feel healthier, but after I tried the REPAIR PRODUCT TRIO and paired it with the OILY SCALP TREATMENT I noticed the most difference and long term results for a little bit of natural volume without over-drying my scalp and recovery/repair for my ends and part line areas where I tease most often. If you're new to the products I recommend ordering a variety of the travel sizes and trying them a few weeks at a time to decide what works best for you without feeling wasteful of your money/products or getting discouraged if one particular set doesn't seem right. I did this with the Moisture Repair, Hydrating, and Extra Volume sets before finally trying the Repair products and I couldn't be happier. I will add that because my hair is so fine and absorbs water/products so well, I have chosen to only use the restoring hair mask about once or twice a month as it makes my hair feel incredible but adds a little weight to the ends which affects my ability to get added volume without additional teasing.Madeline O.

I began using this grease/hair emollient back in 2002. I bought a lil jar of it at the 99 cent store in the Bronx. At the time my daughter was 3 yrs old. Her hair has always been natural from birth, i never used any harsh chemicals relaxers, texturizers or straighteners in her hair; Its always been very thick, curly, wavy and long. I stopped using Johnson n Johnson baby lotion due to the price. When I saw this lil jar that was pretty much natural n very inexpensive, I decided to use it just to try it out. The Softee Indian Hemp grease/hair emollient along with Fantasia Tea gel kept my daughter's hair moisturized and it grew super long. My daughter is now 20 yrs old and still uses this same product in her hair. It's still very inexpensive and the best grease/hair emollient on the market for all hair textures to date.ti-anna.l

This is the worst product I have ever used. The instructions are vague, does not state a process nor a specific hair type to be used on. I have washed my hair 15 times, 5 different shampoos and vinegar to be able to remove the product from my hair. I used clarifying shampoo and vinegar afterwards which seemed to remove it. I still have some residue left but, it is tolerable. I was to the point I began to feel a sense of rage because of how greasy my hair was. I felt dirty and just plain disgusting. I can still smell the petroleum in my hair. It's causing me to feel ill and I become upset. I'm to the point I feel as if I ate the product because of how ill I feel.Lina

Overall I liked this product. Its does what it says… it soothe my scalp and keep it moisturized but compared to other oils for the scalp products I've used, I wouldn't use this product to oil my scalp because the texture is more water based. Because of this I found myself using it every other day because if I don't, it tends to dry my scalp.. again I think its due to its water based texture. But it does a good job soothing my scalp. I think this was a really nice product, I did feel like it soothed my scalp but I did not feel like it was moisturizing enough. It’s not super expensive but for the price it is and the amount you get I feel like other products might be better. I recommend being really careful when cutting the hole in the top because I think I cut it to big and it makes me move through The bottle quicker. I had a protective style in for about a week and hadn’t been moisturizing my hair or scalp like I should have. I thought I would try this product to help. Since this product has both aloe and the tea tree oil I knew it would also help cleanse. I used the nozzle to part my hair and place the product directly on my scalp. I have been using this for two to three weeks and so far I like it. It is lightweight but effective. You can smell a 'slight' hint of sulfur with a bit of sweetness. I apply this at night before going to sleep and it does not bother me at all. This gives me a light cooling effect. It helps with my dry, itchy scalp. My only complaint is that the lid is not easy to take off so for someone with severe arthritis in their hands this will not be easy, hence four stars. Knocking off a point for the horribly designed bottle. Lol. Once you get down to half way it’s nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get out lol. I have been trying several different products for my girls cornrows/braids and between this AND the Cantù Sheen spray, I’ve found something that WORKS! I’m a 4a and Natural for 20 years. My hair loves Petroleum based oil products. My mini braids/twists always come out great. No residue or itch and my curl patterns pops. No problems washing my hair or using gel. I agree with the reviews that mention the design. I have to take the top off to get the product out. But this last mini braids set took me 7 hours and I figured out I could just stick my finger into the bottle neck and get enough to apply to a section of hair. But I’ll need to find something else to put it in. Overall I will be buying this again , hopefully in better packaging.MsRox

Wish I could have given this a higher rating. I was so excited to use this product along with the shampoo since they both had good reviews with very little bad ones. So I buy them and use them leaving the hair oil on for the directed time then used the shampoo and other conditioner I have. After washing my hair it still looked really oily like I hadn’t washed it for days. I didn’t think much of it but a day or two after the first use I started getting little bumps on my forehead and side of my face on both sides that were itchy and started getting dandruff. I put aloe on the little bumps that helped with the itchiness, I still didn’t think nothing of it so I use the oil again and used a dandruff shampoo to wash it out but felt the symptoms worsen. That’s when I realized I’m having a bad reaction to the product and washed it out again with a different shampoo and went to get Benadryl. I looked more at the reviews and seen a few people had the same experience as I did. Still dealing with the symptoms as it just happens last week. Would have given it zero stars if I could! Have been using this product for a few weeks in hopes of it thickening up my edges. My hair has mostly been in protective styles and wanted to work on strengthening it. I noticed how the back of my neck would burn a bit/ itch after about 5-10 minutes from applying. However, I continued to use it as I thought it may just be my scalp adjusting to the mint and rosemary. Because eventually the burning stopped. I struggled mostly with the nape of my hair from ponytails, so that is where I focused on applying the oil. Over the next few days into week, I noticed the nape of my hair thinning tremendously! It has eventually turned into an enlarged baldness area. I also broke out with very painful rash like dry patches along my neck. I am furious!!!! But more so embarrassed and extremely sadden at the damage it has caused. Since this has been the only change to the products I have been using on the last 5 years of being natural. Hoping it can be treated and restored. I also googled this product and see many other costumers have shared very similar experiences of a burning sensation and hair loss. I started experiencing hair loss in 2020 and trust me, I tried EVERYTHING. This rosemary line, especially this scalp oil, and pumpkin seed oil supplements are what saved my hair and now it’s as thick and healthy as when I was a teenager. I don’t find this oil too heavy, and as long as I’m careful with it I can use it without getting my hair super oily. The night before a hair wash I will put extra on, work it into the scalp, and sleep with a cap on to let it all soak in. I used to deal with dry scalp and this totally fixed that issue as well. It’s super hydrating, and feels stimulating and refreshing. I used to use minoxidil but I hated that as soon as I stopped using it for one day the hair would just fall out again! Plus it made my scalp itchy. This is a drug free option that actually works. The shampoo and hair mask from this line are also excellent.Jo

I personally use this as a pre shampoo treatment instead of after. I find it works better for me this way as it can make my hair look too oily otherwise. The sign I get from this product after using is amazing! I wear my hair in buns and braids often and it helps to keep my hair tamed. I always braid my hair after washing it and this product makes it so much easier to manage. Only thing I’m not to sure about with this is it can be hard to get out the bottle when the oil is solid. Dry scalp? This product reduced the itch and moisturized my strands all in one. It smells amazing too. The only bad part? You might wanna put a towel over your pillow while you sleep. I recurved this product free for testing through Influencer, to provide my honest opinion. I have fine, thinning… and I mean thinning, genetic hair loss! I was my hair every other day and applied this in the schedule. That I have also colored with stylists over the past 5 years. This product was sent several months before the launch packaging is beautiful, I'm a sucker for good packaging. It is slightly fragment, I personally enjoyed the smell, slightly herbal. I was interested in the southing properties as I tend to have a dry and itchy scalp during the cold New England winters. The Ouai serum did help with that tremendously, very little itch, irritation or flakiness, like previous years. I did notice most days I used it that my hair appeared a bit fuller, especially if I styled with hear tools. I don't know if it helped my hair grow or perfect shedding necessarily which is why I docked one star. I would decently recommend for those with itchy it irritated scalps, or those looking for a boost if fullness, I think it's the ingredients lifting your hair, again not that I saw hair growth but I feel like my hair felt healthier. QUAI SCALP SERUM I like this serum because it’s completely vegan, cruelty free, gluten free, paraben free and phathalate free, SLS & SLES free. I smells nice and not greasy like one might think. Best of all, easy to apply. The container contains a very nice dropper. The presentation of the bottle is simple, but elegant. I accidentally dropped it and it didn’t break or crack, so it’s made of strong glass. Improvements: My scalp feel less irritated and healthy. In my case, I have dry scalp that comes and goes, and this serum helps minimize dandruff. While using, I noticed less and less flakes and eventually, none. My hair feels healthier and fuller. It leaves a fresh feeling in your hair and a very nice scent. I was selected to test this in March, and I have been using this treatment for more than a month. It came out recently, but you can now make your purchase directly in the @Quai store, @sephora , @ultabeauty and other stores. It’s priced at $52 dlls. A bit expensive, but worth it. I received this product complementary from Influenster and OUAI in exchange for my honest opinion. Just over a month ago, I received this product free from Influenster. Since the new year, I’ve been getting much more into hair and skin products. I’m not getting any younger, so I’m trying to look my best and move into my 40s with grace. I really like the scent of this product, which is kind of minty and is familiar but I could not quite pin it down. If nothing else, your hair will smell great after applying this. The product is applied via a medicine dropper type bulb and applicator. i’m honestly not too sure what I think about this. From the beginning, I always felt like it was not getting enough product into the dropper and had to make multiple goals to get enough to saturate my scalp. In the end I just kind of gave up and came to terms that I would have to go multiple times to do the job. However, I can see why they don’t want you to do it with your fingers, as the shape of the bottle is not conducive for that. The bottles made of glass, but they might want to rethink it and make it into a squeeze bottle with a nozzle, kind of like how you would apply hair dye. I received this product during a time when I dyed my hair twice and pretty much fried my hair. I am going gray in front and getting the color to saturate has been a challenge. This has caused hair breakage and damage. I was able to use his products and apply it to the edges and widows peak of my hair. I feel like after use, but my scalp was not as Ollie but still moist. I cannot say that this is the only product that I have been using for my hair, as I’ve taken on several others in the last month or two, therefore I cannot definitively say that this product alone has helped me. This product worked really well! I tested it on my hair and it felt and smelled really good. The application was a breeze and the nozzle helped it getting directly to the scalp. I rinsed it out, but the roots of my hair felt clean, but straight. The texture at my roots felt different from the length of my hair after rinsing this product out. My hair felt almost waxy at the roots. I was under the impression that this could be used as a shampoo, but now I see it kind of like a “Dry Shampoo”. This product does contain Dimethicone, which I tend not to use on my hair, so that might be the issue as well. Other than that, it worked really well and my roots felt and looked better. I believe it gets the job done but I’m not really sure. I wish they were more…descriptive? (For lack of a better word) about how to use this product. As a rinse, you’d think to rinse it out but the directions makes it seem you leave it in and rinse it out? Yeah…needs better instructions. I use this on dry hair and it DOES remove build up does it really well and helps detangle your hair and left my hair quite shiny. Love this in replacement of shampoo. I definitely rinse it out. My curls love this. Gave it a 4 star because instructions not too clear and if it’s to help combat dandruff it helps a bit but it’s not a cure lol but it helps. I like it. I was so ecstatic when I received Royal Oils products especially when I seen what else it was infused with. The feelings subsided upon initial use of the product it does smell nice and the texture isn't sticky that's the reason for the 3 stars I've given it. Once applied to the scalp instead of soothing it it became itchy not tingly itchy!!! I thought maybe I was having an reaction but I really wanted to test the product so I continued use . My scalp doesn't really have bad dandruff just occasional when it's in a protective style instead of it clearing the flakes I ended up getting more. I bought the entire system of CD goddess strength. I’m combination 3c/4a and this is what my hair needed. I give it a 10/10 after one use. Shampoo is not stripping and hydrating af! The conditioner amazing and the leave in is on another level. I bought the oil too and it did not weigh my hair down. I’m going to take progress pics to document my journey. literally never had a problem with flaking or itchy scalp until i used this product, the target by my house ran out of the mielle oil that i usually use so i substituted it for this. worst mistake, i didn’t even have my braids in for a month and just took them out. this product made me break out and had doctors thinking i had psoriasis, but no it was the oil. my scalp was embarrassingly flaky, dry, & it would rash up and burn. i even had hair loss on my hair line, like seriously don’t buy it i’m so upset i wanna cry 🙁Zariah Mcclure

I bought this to help with my daughter's hair, and mine. For my daughter's to help restore oils back to their hair that over working their has taken away. Ballet is wonderful, but has dried and damaged their hair. I try I to find products that help. I have found some wonderful ones, but wanted to give this a try. You do not need much. I directly line their head with the nozzle after was day one, wash day two, to wash day 4. Now I put a bit on my hands and make sure I put some on my finger to massage it on the scalp. Then I pair it with a leave in called Curl Mane-tenace defining curl whip. I recommend it. My oldest daughter's scalp is healthier and my youngest daughter's coil curls are healthier.jannice .w

Very weak, I was expecting a higher concentration since it say's 100% peppermint oil. I used other 100% extracts before and I know how intense they are supposed to be. This one is already diluted from 100% oil to directly apply to hair (you wouldn't be able to walk around with the concentrate one as it truly burns your skin). So, needs a little bit more accuracy in the product labelling: Made from 100% pure peppermint oil, but not 100% in the bottle.Alan

It smells lovely and I hope that it improves hair growth, but it makes hair very oily and look heavy and greasy, so I suggest keeping it in overnight and wearing a cap to not stain the pillow then showering it out, or using it as a leave-in treatment for a few hours before washing hair before bed. It has a wonderful moisturizing effect, however!M

I have always been in oily hair oily skinned person and I always straight away from using oils. But over the last two years I’ve learned how much I actually need them. My hair started thinning a few months back in as somebody who has always had very long hair, past my back. It was hard for me and my insecurities start growing from this issue. I went looking for information and learned a-lot, I asked my doctor for advice also. We think it happened because of a medication I was taking for my heart rate. So I stopped taking it and am now taking something else that doesn’t cause hair loss. I got a brush that stimulates blood cells on my scalp to help with regrowth, I also am using a new shampoo and conditioner. I am not putting my hair in any ponytail or using elastic. I sleep with a silk pillow case to help with my hair not breaking off. And I am taking vitamins for my hair, skin nails. And I have been using oils on my scalp and hair, they are castor oil, tea tree oil, coconut oil, vitamin E. I have been using them once a day and the night before I Shower I put a-lot more in to sit overnight before washing out. I see a difference and i see baby hairs growing all over and My hair hasn’t been breaking off like before, and when I brush my hair I haven’t been losing as much hair as I was 6months ago.jahnay.w

I love this. My daughter's curls are 3a-c. Sometimes when doing my daughter's hair, especially when combing to braid up/or for braids, it can get very dry during the process. A little bit of this oil, not much at all, just a pea sized amount, helped tremendously! I will ALWAYS choose this over unnatural, synthetic, over fake fragranced oils! There are so many fake, silicone, paraben filled products, parabens are not good for you. I feel confident choosing this. I love this oil so much, I am leaving my other "moisture" brand. Usually when i braid my daughter's hair, she has an itchy scalp before the end of the night, even after using dandruff shampoo and leave in. So far she has had no itching for 24 hours. I suggest while braiding the hair, look for the flakey spots after washing well, then add dime sized amounts to the spot. Me? I added while combing, then added some over the braids. Braids can look dry sometimes, lackluster, and this oil I think would be great for that. I am caucasian, my daughter is biracial, and I have been doing her hair for 13 years. I know good product when I feel it. This is a great oil for braid days when you want to protect the hair and let that oil soak up! You gotta try it. For a washngo apply your leave in, gel/cream, air dry, then add this oil with praying hands to fight humidity!Brrr

I had a hair emergency….I was using head and shoulders for awhile for my dandruff and I was experiencing extreme fall out and scalp sores. It just hit me like IM BALDING okay so I had to do something different. I switched to jack black shampoo and conditioner which is great and using this as well. I notice a huge difference in just 2-3 months no more sores and its filling out too you can see tiny hairs just sticking up and it looks crazy but I know its new growth so I am beyond happy. Thanks to this stuff im becky with the good hair just not as messy 🤣 I know a part of it was switching shampoos but whenever I know i will be in the house a few days i saturate my scalp and massage it in and leave it for as long as i can and i notice a huge difference my hair is so soft my scalp feels so nourished and it smells AMAZING i love this smellMonica j.

Very happy with the ingredients, texture and smell. I would not advise using this every day prior to styling your hair because it is mostly comprised of oil. It is going to be greasy so what I found effective is applying it with grow gorgeous hair density serum to the scalp. I mix them together and massage my scalp for a minute. Then I take about a nickel size of this oil by itself all the way down thru the rest of the hair brushing from scalp to tip. If you are curly or wavy you obviously can leave out the brushing part and rely on your hands to evenly distribute the product. I put it up in a bun overnight and wash in the morning. I do this twice a week the night before I wash and condition my hair. I do a double wash to ensure I rinse out all the oil. I learned the hard way the first time. I've only been doing this for a couple months but my hair feels and styles nicely afterward so I'll continue on. I have fine stranded medium to thick density hair. I've dreamed of a super thick pony but I'm thankful for having a lot of hair albeit baby fine.Product Lover

My daughter has a very sensitive scalp and this is one of the only products that does not break her scalp out with hundreds of bumps. So I travel quite a distance to purchase it.Malina

I’ve used this on my hair sometimes when I feel like my roots need a bit of help. It isn’t hard to apply and a little goes a long way, only problem is that you will have to shampoo twice and condition to get the product out. This is a very hard product to get out the hair but does leave my hair feeling beautiful and strongshazzida.s
