Best Hair Product For Heat Protection (2025 Update)

First of all, Pureology can do no wrong in my eyes. Every single product they make is absolute gold. I loved having the opportunity to try this heat protectant smoothing lotion in exchange for my honest review. The 6.6 oz retails for $29 on the pureology website. That price seems pretty fair. I have long hair and I usually use about 2 or three pumps. It smells great and smooths any frizz. Also, a lot of people skip the heat protectant step before they blow dry, flat iron or curl, and the professionals will tell you that’s a big mistake. Especially for color treated hair. This lotion is great. It feels very lightweight, I have oily scalp and hair that is tend to be greasy fast and yet very frizzy due to highlights and straightening. I was glad to find out that this lotion is not greasy or sticky and doesn’t weigh my hair down and It does help protect my hair from heat treatment and it’s noticeable. After two week of use I noticed that it helped my hair look smoother and less frizzy. I actually liked the result so much that I even take the time to use my hair straightener more frequently. The only single drawback is the scent, I wish it was less peachy and last shorter. Not to my liking anyway. I really enjoyed the shampoo from this line, but I feel the conditioner & smoothing cream are too heavy for my hair type. I shampoo and style my hair once a week and with the use of this product I had to shampoo after 2 days due to itchy scalp and just overall weighing my hair down. I use another high end line smoothing creams and I can go 6-7 days without shampooing. I’m all about that dry shampoo life. This product smells great and my hair looked amazing right after I blowed it out and it definitely did smooth my hair out, I just didn’t like the weighing of my hair down after 2 days. I accidentally bought a knock off of the blow-dry spray and decided to buy the real stuff but this time I bought the blow-dry mist for fine hair. This was so heavy on my hair, too oily and waxy. Finally a product that does what it promises! I have fine hair (a lot of it with a lot of body) that has a tendency to frizz around the face area. I ADORE the smell. It is very beachy / coconut, lasts all day. This product is GREAT for heat protection and shine / detangling. However, I have thin / fine hair and this is way too greasy / oily. I spray it far enough from my head and use very little product but it is still too oily and sadly makes my hair stringy. I would absolutely recommend this to my thicker / medium haired friends or friends with hair extensions! I was looking for a heat protectant and a product that would help with slip as I round brush my hair. This is not it! It caused snags and snarls. I literally had to rip the brush through my hair. For a product designed to "heal" hair, I am sure I did some serious damage in one use. The description reads "provides gentle slip;" it absolutely does not have any slip and does the exact opposite! I discovered L'Anza shampoo through LovelySkin, so I thought I'd give this dry shampoo a try. It is another great L'Anza product. In addition to being a great dry shampoo that does not weigh down the roots where it is applied, I appreciate that it does not have a strong smell like some others do. Sad to write a bad review since I am absolutely obsessed with Kerastase products. They’re the only products I use. This product left my hair feeling less smooth than normal and actually took away some shine. I use the Dyson air wrap curler and found this product amazing. The bounce can often fall, but with the product it stayed for the whole day. I was sceptical about the restyling, but my hair held its style when I styled using heat over the following days. Top tip you really don’t need a lot. I over did it on the first attempt.D

A FabFitFun Box winner! I received this heat shield spray in last years summer box and have used it religiously since. My hair has not only stayed healthy and strong but it’s also kept its shine AND my color doesn’t seem to look as dull and faded as soon as it normally would. I used this with my long hair and then after cutting it to a bob, i used it more frequently as my hair had to be styled daily. I love ! It really does protect hair from heated styling tools! Before straightening I spray it all over my hair. Typically I spray it on once my hair is dry (you can do dry or wet). Then I take and run my fingers and then brush through my hair before styling. It’s a milky mist consistency and a little goes a long way. Make sure you keep the cap clean so that it will continue to spray as a mist. It can be used on any hair type. I have thick naturally very curly hair. Makes my hair so smooth and soft. I started using this originally as a heat protection spray because I used to use a lot of heat on my hair. It worked great when using heat. It protected my hair and kept it shiny. Skeptical but wow! I bought this place product and immediately after reading the reviews of people saying it made their hair sticky and straw like I thought I just wasted $30. I read the reviews of people who loved it and took their tips on what worked for them. I let my hair dry to about 40% dry and then I put the product in (2 pumps for my long hair) I have found little is more! And then I put it through the middle of my hair to the ends and then I brush through it for about a minute to ensure equal distribution. I then let the product sit in my hair for a couple minutes to fully absorb and then it’s drying time. I use my Revlon dryer brush and it took me about 5 minutes to do a beautiful salon like blowout. This is one of those products that can be terrible if not used properly but a great product when used correctly.macibradley1

I received a sample of this product in a gwp from Ulta. I used it for the first time yesterday and hated it so much, it went into the trash can this morning. My hair is normal/fine and highlighted, but usually feels smooth when styled. This product left my hair feeling like straw and extra tangled. My usual 2-3 day style was washed this morning just to get rid of that texture from using this product yesterday. I bought the large 10 ounce one at TJ Maxx for $11 after trying one of their Iron Guard products and liking it. I went with this one because it was a larger bottle and figured it wouldn't be that different but I was wrong. I was going to give it 3 stars but made it 4 stars because I should have read the bottle and the reviews better. This definitely feels like a hair spray in that it gives your hair a crunch. I have used this 2x after brushing my dry hair and then used a straightener over it. You feel the crunch immediately so to me it made it a bit difficult to straighten. I ended up having to brush, straighten, brush, straighten, brush to get it to look the way I like. It did hold the style throughout the day which I guess is good, but it just wasn't the easiest getting the style this way which was just basic straight hair. I believe this would work really well when using a curling iron though or using on humid days. I'll stick to the normal Iron Guard 44 spray because this huge bottle will last me years and I rarely curl my hair. TLDR: This is half heat protection and half hair spray to set your hair. I use this when curling my hair. I spray it all over, then brush through prior to using my curling wand. It helps hold my curls/waves and I don't need to use hairspray after, so my hair stays soft. Curls last all day, with only a little touch up the next morning. I have very long hair, its about halfway down my back in length, so drying my hair takes what seems like forever. I have tried a lot of different priming sprays that are supposed to reduce drying time. This product works really well for my hair, it has cut drying time at least in half for me with my hair dryer. It has a mild and pleasant scent. The bottle doesn't last very long because of how long and thick my hair is, however it is completely worth it. I love this spray, it really tames my coarse hair when I straighten it but doesn't leave it all weighed down, or a bit sticky like a lot of products seem to. I first was introduced to this product when it came in an awards so swag bag. i'd heard of this brand before but have never tried anything from them. let me tell you, from the first time i put this in my hair i was hooked!! i bleach my hair to be able to dye with fun colors. the toll it takes on my hair – mega damage! i use this on wet hair. when my hair dries it is silky soft like bleach has never touched my hair. you only need one pump and the bottle will last you a VERY long time. it plays well with blow dryers and flat irons as well. i also believe its extends styling by a few extra days! the *only* downside is that it is on the pricey side. but consider this – you'll stop buying random products looking for "the one" that will give you these results. very happy Sephora is carrying this – wish more of their stores carried it in stock tho! – as i've ben looking for this product the second i ran out of that first bottle of it. like my headline says, its worth every penny bcuz this product WORKS so well!loldhams

I have to say I usually don't like a lot of docent products because it leaves my hair feeling oily, heavy and greasy. But Moroccanoil protect and prevent spray left my hair feeling light weight, shiny and smelling fresh! I just really couldn't get enough of this product so I basically used it throughout the day. I have dark brown wavy hair past my shoulders and live in the midsouth where it is extremely humid. And extremely hot. My hair is dyed and I spend most days running between court, my office and the prison ( full Sun). So I worry about my color fading and most days I resemble ms. The Agave & Lavender Weightless Thermal Protectant Serum is EXACTLY what I've been searching for to replace a serum from another brand that was discontinued. I was originally attracted to this product because I was looking for one that would make my hair smell like lavender. Well, it doesn't really smell like lavender; it smells sort unisex-cashmere-ish. I'm not crazy about it, but it's not strong and it dissipates after a while, so I'm okay with it. This makes my hair look GREAT. I smooth it onto my air-dried hair, then use my hot iron. I normally straighten the shaft, and curl the ends. This product makes my hair look silky and "finished" and definitely holds the curl at the ends. Only complaint is that on muk after wash products is that the black writing on the bottle comes off all over your hand, this happens on all of the leave in products I find I have to clean the print off before using them. This smells really good like the shampoo and conditioner. I like that it has a lock and unlock button on the bottle . So when you use it you can unlock it and makes sure nothing spills out and then when your done you push lock and it will lock it for you ! I received Protecting + Silk Blowout (Quick Drying Thermal Spray) for free from Influenster and OGX in exchange for my honest opinion- Let me start off by saying how extremely skeptical I was to use OGX products. I have heard terrible results people have had after using this brand. I decided to try it out for myself. For starters, this thermal spray smells lovely. I would agree it did cut my blow drying time in half and also did dry fairly quickly. This product left my long, curly, thick locks silky smooth and instantly soft! You can definitely tell this thermal spray holds in moisture and is a pretty effective blowout spray. Unfortunately the spray bottle itself needs improvement. I wouldn’t consider this product a mist, it’s almost like a very lightweight conditioner in a bottle. With that being said, I would recommend spraying the product into your hands to evenly distribute. Otherwise you’ll be spreading the product in only certain areas. The nozzle doesn’t exactly like to budge and it comes spraying out like a water hose. The bottle recommend to spray product on damp hair from roots to ends. Although the product does do what it claims to do (cuts blowdrying time in half and protects hair from heat,) OGX needs to recreate a new bottle to make using much more simplified.noel.f

A product I cannot live without! It is so easy to use. I really like the spray bottle that the product is in. It covers all of my hair so easily and doesn't take too much product to ensure my hair is protected. I use this with my blow dryer and my straightener. I can tell a huge difference when I don't use it with my heat appliances versus when I do use it. It truly helps and adds a nice, healthy shine to my hair. It also smells really nice. I've only been using this product for a couple of weeks but as someone who blow-dries and straightens their hair on an almost daily basis, I have used it alot! The first thing I noticed about this spray is how light it is when you apply it; it leaves little to no residue and doesn't make my hair appear greasy as some protection sprays can. The spray also smells gorgeous, with a light scent which isn't at all overbearing. I do think it makes a difference to the condition of my hair which was starting to look a little fried whilst using a popular alternative brand. Love it! Have curly hair so bought it to straighten my hair to cut it evenly, my hair has bounced back perfectly! I used leave-in first, wouldn't recommend it on its own. Similar thickness and viscosity to castor oil, coats the hair well. I used loads on top of my leave-in but it didn't weigh my hair down or make it look product-ty, just super smooth. If you have very fine hair perhaps the spray version might be better, I chose this one because it's more concentrated. It's a good-sized bottle that will last me a while especially as I'll only need it for when I want to trim my hair, definitely recommend 🙂Marya P

I love that this isn’t that expensive and it literally gets the job done. I love the Fantasia brand. First of all their stuff smells good. I switch up but I do use the Heat protector hair straighting serum and it makes my hair so soft.But the smell I would have to say is my favorite part about this product! I tried the shampoo and conditioner in sample size packets it lathered up so good the smell is amazing! Makes your hair so soft Would definitely recommend you to try it outjennifer.f

I have thick wavy hair and like to straighten it often. I have been using this for over 5 years. After I blow dry my hair I spray the smooth sleek perfection lightly all over my hair before I use a flattening iron. It helps protect the hair and makes it shiny and smooth.Stephanie

Another great product from Coldwell. Both myself and my daughter use this before drying or before straightening our hair. Sprays an even fine mist so doesn't weigh hair down or make it greasy like some other thermal protection sprays can do. We have tried a few, often more expensive but love this. Very good heat protection, protects the hair and does not make greasy hair. The product smells pleasant and is not obtrusive. Unfortunately the packaging is nothing, despite the change of packaging the product leaks at the beginning and at the end the spray pump does not work anymore (happened several times). Replaced the spray pump with a commercial one, works fine again.Mirjam
