This is my first foray into pomades, and I was braced for something between a hair oil and the crunchy gels of the 80s. I was pleasantly surprised to find Cremo delivered something far better. This pomade is a solid hold, especially when worked through do hair, and it holds for 24 hours, if not longer. I've been able to mist water on my hair and comb it back into place after sleeping for a second day's hold. It doesn't have a strong smell, which is great — nothing to compete with my aftershave and cologne. I have 3a/b curly hair, ringlets with big volume and I thought I'd never be able to wear my hair straight without using a straightener religiously. I recently received this Cremo Thickening Styling Paste #freeproduct from #trywithtopbox to try in exchange for an honest review. This is the first time my fiancé is trying a styling paste, he usually uses hair glue for his hair. He found that the product was easy to use and work into his hair. The texture of the paste is really soft and not at all sticky or tacky. It however does not have as much hold as his usual hair glue. He actually has pretty thick hair to begin with so he couldn't tell if there was a thickening effect. However, he said he really loved the scent of product. I have used the American Crew Fiber and Pomade. This product, the "Forming Cream" I would describe as the middle, the perfect balance. My hair is thick, somewhat coarse, yet soft. I wear my hair short, almost like a buzz and usually let it grow longer so that I can comb it over (by longer I'm talking 4-5 inches on the top, sometimes more). What I didn't like about Fiber is that it can be too clay like and usually made my hair too stiff. I found fiber to work best the shorter my hair was, but even then it was a super strong and stiff hold. It was actually working as intended, but not to my liking. What I didn't like about Pomade was the high shine and depending on how much used, greasy feel to my hair. And once again, you buy Pomade for the shine, so working as intended but not to my liking.dipen.p

Ricochet is a pleasant smelling, smooth cream which is easy to apply. It has great flexible hold unlike gel which turns your hair into a helmet. Unlike ricochet, the Forge Putty is grainy feeling with the texture like sunblock. It took me a while to really figure out how to use this product – so I highly suggest experimenting as it says in the description. At first, I was using way too little product. Now, I'll use a quarter-sized blob or even more. I was pretty confused by this stuff, so I've included a detailed description of how I use it 🙂 My favorite way to use this product is on hair that's been dried about 70%. I smooth this through from mid-shaft to ends, then twist into 4 little buns, and let dry for 45 minutes on my drive to work. When I take my hair down, I have beautiful waves that stay all day. They aren't weighed down or greasy at all, but they do have great separation and texture – not too gritty, but not too poofy as my hair tends to get after a wash. My hair dries pretty straight on it's own, but using this on almost-dry hair and smoothing it straight makes it dry even nicer. On second day hair, I'll smooth this through and reshape any curls that are left, or use to style into a half-updo, smoothing any unruly pieces. Somehow just smoothing this through hair makes it look great. It really is effortless! Day 3, I always wear a bun. I've had trouble in the past with the hair at my crown being too stiff and flat. Putting some of this on my hands before I gather my hair up onto my head smooths the flyaways, but also gives body and great texture. This product has totally changed my bun game!heyitskath

Love this stuff! I use a pretty decent amount and surprisingly it really just makes my hair soft, smooth, and it also helps with static without weighing it down at all. I like that it adds some slight separation; I flip my hair back from my face instead of parting it and I need a little bit of hold/separation to keep it from just falling forward into my face during the day. Where this stuff excels for me is that I really like to only blow dry my hair at the temples with a round brush (the hair is shorter there so it gets really wavy where the rest of my hair really doesn't.) I can let the rest of my hair air dry and it still looks polished. I've used other smoothing lotions/leave in conditioners this way, but I find that without the heat a lot of these lotions don't really do much to add sheen/separation/de-frizzing to the air dried areas. I would say this does a great job smoothing hair when you blow dry with a round brush but it won't keep it poker straight (BB repair blow dry is great for that). Was a little disappointed in the size (2oz) because it was not stated anywhere here on the description so I was expecting a 4oz tub, same as the other 2 pomades I bought here online. This makes it twice as expensive as the others I bought. Thats why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. The pomade itself is fantastic! Great fragrance, easy to work with. It does say use sparingly so I hope it will last as long as other 4oz products that you have to use more of. Anyway, the hold is great, I like how my hair feels after application, pliable yet feels like the hold is strong. Not so much shine, which is what I wanted. I will be sad when this tub is finished. I love using this for braids! I saw another reviewer say that’s what they used, and so I bought it since I recently learned how to braid (Yeah, yeah.. i’m 20… just learned) and I hated how straggly my bleached blonde hair can look in a braid. This is a great product for a nice, soft hold. It keeps my hair in place without being hard and crunchy; I can still run my fingers through my hair throughout the day and it stays in place. But what makes this so special is that it washes out clean every time. There is no buildup in my hair, and I use it everyday. Much like American Crew's Fiber, this product is high hold and made for short hair (about 1-3 inches in length). It's one of my favorite products to use after haircuts when my hair is short. Molding Clay differs from the Fiber because it has a shine. It will give something closer to a "gel/wet" look, but without hardening and the product remains malleable so you can restyle throughout the day (hence a "greasy" feel as opposed to the "sticky" feel of the Fiber). If you have hair that's longer than about 3 inches, the product will likely feel too greasy (just as Fiber feels too sticky in longer hair). You gotta know your styling products – they're not made for a one-fits-all length/style. I've never had an issue washing it out. All American Crew products I've tried are water-based and wash out easily.
I've tried a number of American Crew products and this one just doesn't work for me. It has less hold than the pomade, in my opinion, and leaves my hair looking greasy to the point that it looks like I've worked out and didn't shower afterwards. Honestly, it works so poorly that I wonder if I somehow got a fake product instead of the real thing… The smell is nice though! It's got a pleasant minty scent that I find enjoyable.A

This works really well for the wet look with high hold. More of a glue-like consistency hold. Good for kids short mohawks. DO NOT APPLY TO WET HAIR. Doing so dilutes the product, and it will not work as advertised. If you MUST have moisture in your hair prior to application, it should (at least) be towel dried. D:fi products smell like sour candy, so if you're picky about your fragrances, be advised this one is not the typical cologne-like scent.

I ordered 2 jars of this product. I received it very quickly – 3 days. I opened each jar to inspect them and I could tell that one of them was old. The product was dried up, cracked and unusable. I have very straight hair that tends to stick up when I wake up and then later gets very flat. A dime sized amount of this, rubbed between my hands and applied to damp hair adds just enough volume and tames my hair. One of my go-tos and I recently repurchased again when it went on sale! I like a messy pixie look and my former favorite product (Fantastic Sam's Molding Mud) was sadly discontinued. I thought this would work for my hair with the multiple good reviews, but it left my hair looking limp, greasy, and flat… exactly the opposite of what I was going for 🙁 This was sad because it smells amazing and I had high hopes for it. TIGI Bed Head used to make a manipulating putty called Catfight in a spherical blue container that I used probably 20 years ago when I first cut my hair short and that product was awesome. Although this product is marketed for Men, I'm a female and I love this product. It does have a light scent but isn't strong or a masculine scent. Hanz de Fuko products are hands down the best on the market. I have been using them for years and have never switched up. The fact that not much product is needed means you can expect it to last a long time. While the products remain on the “pricier” end of men’s hair products, it is for good reason. I bought this knowing some days you need a stronger hold on your hair, mine is always short and textured, shorten on the sides, longer on top. It does provide a stronger hold but it so dense and thick and it drys up towards the bottom. I have about a quarter of it left in a very small jar. Where do I start with this product. First, I love it. I love the smell – its not overpowering or some weird gimmicking strong weird smell. Reminds me of one of the pleasant product scents I smell when I'm at the salon. I LOVE that its matte and it truly is matte. The matte finish gives your hair style such a "finished" and chic look. A very finished "unfinished" look, if you like that and I do! I have naturally curly hair (not thick but A LOT of hair) and a short style but can also wear my hair very straight. I want to explore using this product with straight hair but I'm loving it with my curls! Anyone with curly hair knows curls are tricky and you need to find what works for yours but for me, Ive finally found the perfect "cocktail" when it comes to cleansing and styling products (ugh, it takes a village but its worth it). So, I don't put this product in my hair until my hair is like 95% dry (I air dry my curls). To finish my hair once its nearly dry, I add a texturizing spray (again I use this when hair is almost completely dry) and sort of haphazardly scrunch it in my curls for volume and texture (don't go crazy with product) then I add the sumo clay and to avoid frizz (because if you mess around with your hair too much with this product, you can get frizz) I rub the product into my hands then I sort of "push" and lightly pinch the product up into my curls and in random places. Anywhere I see some frizz, I sort of take my hands with the extra product on them and just gentle manipulate the excess product into those curls until it sort of tempers any frizz. So for anyone who has naturally curly hair and wants to try this product, try this technique (I know, its hard to visualize in a written review) but see if that helps. I love this product and will definitely be buying it again! Matte finish is the best!j4bailey

This product provides and offers everything that I am looking for in a good sculpting paste. When applied, this product instantly finishes up your hair and gives it a long lasting hold for a long amount of time. After use, this product also gives my hair a nice greasy look that I am going for with a nice feeling texture that is given onto the hair. This product can be used with both wet and dry hair (I have used it with both wet and dry hair and the results are both great in the end). The packaging of this product is quite small and can be considered little, but a tiny amount of the paste can provide a decent hold to your hair; meaning, it will take a while to go through one package. BEST HAIR PASTE EVER. Full disclosure, I am in fact a woman, but this is 100x better than any other drugstore hair product marketed for women. I'd also like to add that it's MUCH cheaper for more product than the same stuff in a pink container. It does have a fairly strong cologne smell at first, but once it's in your hair you can't really notice it. I have a pixie cut and I like everything to be in its place and styled without the stiff look of a hairspray, and I like to be able to run my fingers through it without becoming covered in product. This paste does exactly that, and it gives a nice amount of sheen to my hair without being too shiny or greasy looking. You really only need a small bit so it lasts a long time, although for a longish pixie cut you'll need about double what the instructions say. It does feel quite thick in your hands and it takes some practice to get the application and amount right, but once it dries it's very soft and unnoticeable. If you are a woman using this and you're going for a softer look, I will caution you against using too much in one area because it can look a little stringy, but it's pretty easy to comb through and fix. I use just a little at a time, adding more until I'm happy. If you're going to be out in the wind and you don't want your hair messed up you'll still have to use hairspray, but this is great for after styling hold and shaping. And SO much cheaper than the same exact thing marketed for women!jacy.d
Found this product on the shelf of my local supermarket. Been searching for a fragrance free. dry look pomade/matte/paste product. Decided to try it based on the solid brand name. Preformed reasonably well on a windy day. However, received several unflattering comments from co-workers about the fragrance — funky, stinky, putrid, and female-repelling — just to quote a few. I concur with them all. Needless to say, i will not be purchasing this product again, and still remain curious as to how anyone who developed this product could ever think that the fragrance was acceptable, let alone marketable. This is my first foray into pomades, and I was braced for something between a hair oil and the crunchy gels of the 80s. I was pleasantly surprised to find Cremo delivered something far better. This pomade is a solid hold, especially when worked through do hair, and it holds for 24 hours, if not longer. I've been able to mist water on my hair and comb it back into place after sleeping for a second day's hold. It doesn't have a strong smell, which is great — nothing to compete with my aftershave and cologne. I have 3a/b curly hair, ringlets with big volume and I thought I'd never be able to wear my hair straight without using a straightener religiously. And with this product alone, I can wear my hair slicked back and mostly straight in a Peaky Blinders cut. That's the kind of hold Cremo delivers, and I'm a convert for life. I recently received this Cremo Thickening Styling Paste #freeproduct from #trywithtopbox to try in exchange for an honest review. This is the first time my fiancé is trying a styling paste, he usually uses hair glue for his hair. He found that the product was easy to use and work into his hair. The texture of the paste is really soft and not at all sticky or tacky. It however does not have as much hold as his usual hair glue. He actually has pretty thick hair to begin with so he couldn't tell if there was a thickening effect. However, he said he really loved the scent of product. Most hair styling products he has tried usually smells waxy or has a overwhelming perfumy scent. This one smells like an old fashioned barber shop. He also liked the consistency of the product so he is looking forward to trying another product within the line but with a stronger hold.Icbeautybliss
