I was able to try this product in exchange for review, which I was thrilled about as I have always wanted to try this particular Shea Moisture line. I have heavily highlighted and have attacked it quite regularly with hot tools. Add in pandemic self-done haircuts, my hair has been feeling rather dry and brittle. After two weeks of using this shampoo, twice a week, My hair feels moisturised but perhaps a little too much so. For my particular hair, I cannot use this is my go-to shampoo, but more as a twice a month or so treatment shampoo. The texture is not like any I have tried before, it is a semi-viscus liquid that pours out like a watery honey, not at all like a standard shampoo, so pay attention in the shower! The smell is a comforting warm vanilla. For my hair this product is a little too moisturising to use with every wash, but if you have coarser hair than mine, I definitely say give it a whirl. I will repeat purchase, as this shampoo does strengthen & restore my hair due effective natural components: Jamaican Black Castor oil, Fair Trade Shea Butter & Peppermint. It's sulfate-free, eligible for colored hair, by the way. The scent is really extremely pleasant like parfume for hair. My man loves the aroma & makes compliments. The only minus that I detected is that as It nourishes hair, my hair becomes one day ahead in comparison with other shampoos with cleaning leading role, not restoring. But I am completely OK with it, as benefits prevail. After use my hair has beautiful silky shine & it becomes healthier. It has helped me to resolve hair loss as well. I was able to try the Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo as a #freeproduct with #trywithtopbox & was pleasantly surprised. Keeping in mind this is a restorative shampoo it's very unconventional in the way it looks, smells & shampoos the hair. I was very skeptical but was used to it by the 2nd to 3rd time using it. It doesn't suds up/lather as much as a regular shampoo but it does if you really massage the hair well & give it a second shampoo. The color doesn't bother me as I said you get used to it. My hair didn't have the traditional "clean" feeling the first time I used it but there's a definite silkier almost more creamy feel to the hair after using it which is nice. This was a nice surprise! After using it for a few weeks now, I feel like again, I'm used to it & it leaves the hair clean & amazingly hydrated. Keep in mind this is all because this shampoo is sulfate-free (which is a good thing!). So give it a chance! You wouldn't necessarily use this if you have a ton of product in your hair you need to get off (lots of hairspray, gel etc,). This could be used for the second round of shampooing. So recommend to use this when you need some hydration & your hair is heat damaged. Also big plus it didn't burn my eyes which is my number one test with any shampoo especially when I saw the highlighted ingredients as peppermint & apple cider vinegar. I detest mint in general (esp in hair care) & have used products with lots of tea tree oil etc. & do not like it. So points for being subtle smelling & not harsh. Honestly didn't even notice. I had a sample of this shampoo, then bought the full size and now that I've used it up, I'm missing it! Other shampoos that I've used including shea moisture, taliah waajid and the mane choice just don't compare to this. This shampoo checks all the boxes, except being black-owned. I can detangle, it's moisturizing, it smells good, it has GREAT ingredients and it gets my scalp SO clean! When I use other shampoos, I still have a little bit of itching after and my scalp really starts itching mid-week. With this shampoo, even when I work out almost everyday, I don't get the incessant itch until almost the end of the week. The itching is so much less than anything else I've used. Hopefully it's made by black people so I can support black professionals that way. I'll definitely repurchase!
i used to be a Sallys employee but never gave it a shot. SO GLAD i did!! seriously like liquid gold in a bottle, it smells lovely makes my hair feels silky and moisturized! i look forward to washing my hair now, literally count the days down. i also use this lines detangling spray which i technically dont need bc of how amazingly soft the shampoo and conditioner make my hair but i feel that it definitley helps! i have type 3 curly hair. The quality is outstanding. I have sensitive dry skin, also suffer from dermatographia, and my hair is a 3b/3c combination of dry ends and zigzag curls. As you can imagine finding any hair product strong enough to make my curls behave, but not agresive enough to make my scalp itch, was quite difficult until now. Due to my sensitivity, it's not uncommon for my skin to swell and itch because of a product.(which didn't happen with this product! yay!) The mild scent is really nice and natural, which I love because I don't like artificial fragrances. Every time I wash my hair my scalp feels free, if that makes any sense, as in it doesn't feel heavy with product and is able to breathe. You also don't need to use too much product in one wash since the texture is quite thick but spreads easily. After washing the hair is left soft but bouncy, it's easy to de-tangle and smells amazing. Because of my hair structure I tried multiple brands, and while some kinda worked, they required washing my hair every day since the roots would get oily cause of the product overload. With this one tho I could wash my hair once every 3 days(minimum) and that's awesome. It also moisturizes my scalp enough to get rid of the little dandruff I got from a product that irritated my skin. Overall I wholeheartedly recommend this brand !! I bought the whole line: shampoo, conditioner, mask, and curls definer. I use the mask once a week and the conditioner when not using the mask. The first picture is before I tried those product, and the second one is after the first wash. As you can see it looks soft, there's almost no brittle, it's shiny and I finally claimed my curls back! * this is not a cure for dermatographia! My condition is in remission nowadays, thank the universe. If your dermatitis is still active, I suggest consulting a dermatologist and using medically approved and proven relief products. I have been using the Shea Moisture conditioner for approximately two weeks and was provided them by #trywithtopbox as a #freeproduct for my honest review. I have fine, thin, waist length hair that is naturally blonde starting to go grey, that is prone to split ends and I would describe as normal to oily. I don't wash it daily but every 2 to 3 days it's just too much work to do daily. I used the conditioner as directed and found that my hair combed out fairly easily even while still wet which was great as it tends to tangle quite badly when I don't use a good conditioner on it. My hair was soft and shiny and manageable. The container for this feels slightly greasy when I handle it during use even after rinsing them off. The conditioner bottle uses a pump as a dispenser which is great but I couldn't get the original one that came with the bottle to function. I replaced it with one I had but I noticed that the thick conditioner dries and forms a plug that takes several pumps to force out. Overall I would say this was a good product that worked as advertised and if someone was looking to try this I would recommend it, I'm not sure if it is the best choice for me given the frequency with which I wash my hair.MargarethaM

It's really easy to apply and style, and the matte finish is perfect for people who have wavy hair (the more shine you have on wavy hair, the more your hair just looks wet). I have fine thinning hair and I bought this with the Rose Stem Cell shampoo specifically to treat the thinning, hopefully regrow hair, and reduce hair fallout. I was nervous about putting a conditioner directly on my scalp, thinking it would weight it down, but it only makes sense to put it directly on the scalp so as to target the issue/s and I'm happy to say my fear was unfounded. I have medium length hair, I’m a guy, and after growing my hair out for the first time in 30+ years, I’ve searched for 3.5 years now and have tried so many different products. I don’t know my hair type, but it’s salt and peppered, about 75% gray. For those that have gray hair, it’s a different animal than the thick hair I had years ago. When I use this stuff, I put 3 pumps in, work it through and my hair is noticeably different immediately. I noticed it stays wet far longer than without, so I end up lightly blow drying for about 1-2 min. I then put a firm holding cream in my hair and the volume I get by adding this stuff, blow drying a few min, is amazing. I always read these things about this product or that product creating volume, and I’ve tried literally dozens. None added noticeable volume except this one. I am so in love with this product, I’d pay twice the price and it’d be worth it for what I get out of it.
I went into Sally's and asked the young lady could she recommend a detangling conditioner for my thick dry brillo pad feeling hair. She handed me this Tangle Slayer and said if I didn't like it bring it back. 4 hours later here I am writing a review. This stuff melted the tangles right out! I could not believe it! I can't tell you how many thick Wet combs I have broken trying to comb through my hair and to use this conditioner and the comb glides right through. I'm looking for more products from this line. I'm a believer and I'm totally impressed!

Before I begin, I’d like to caution everyone from buying skin or hair products on amazon. For some reason there is a discrepancy between products sold by company websites and stores themselves and products sold by amazon (even though they appear to be sold by the same company, just via amazon). I love this product. It’s the first leave-in I’ve used, in combination with the carol’s daughter cleansing conditioner. It’s an amazing combination. My hair has shine (which i never thought I’d achieve with my coarse hair), it’s not frizzy at all (again, never thought I’d see the day), and remains curly for several days longer. I will say it works almost TOO well, and reduces volume while combatting frizz. For that reason I like to skip using it every few hair washes. But overall, it will be hard to beat.

If your hair or beard is long you will not be able to run your fingers through your hair as you're working it in and washing it out. What can I say aside from this stuff being absolutely incredible. It has a dry finish, but within hours your hair feels softer and smells amazing with this lemon scent that lathers well and is perfect for men who want more volume or have thinning hair. I luckily still have a full head of hair, but it’s quite fine in texture, and this stuff truly does make it feel more thick from the Coconut Oil and Kelp Extract that they infuse. Even my girlfriend loves using this stuff and she is extremely picky when it comes to shampoo or conditioner. This stuff WORKS and LASTS FOREVER! I was originally on the fence about buying it because of the price, but I can now say it is completely worth it. I use it every other day and the big bottle has lasted me about 8-9 months! It’s very thick so you don’t need nearly as much compared to other shampoos, even with my shoulder length hair. No complaints about the shampoo. It does the things that shampoo should do: lathers and cleans. The lather is also pleasantly viscous, so points there for Jack Black. No idea if it thickens, but I wasn't really paying attention to that. My only gripe is that the bottle doesn't indicate it smells like peppermint. If I had bought it in-store I would have known this. But I ordered online. I have nothing against the peppermint smell, nor producers of peppermint, nor peppermint enthusiasts, but it just seems to me that 30% of men's products all smell of peppermint (don't hold me to that percentage…I'm using it as hyperbole). I started using this in August 2020. It has done wonders for my hair. In November my beautician remarked at how soft my hair is. I found the best way to use it to apply the night before I plan on washing my hair. After I massage into the scalp and brush through my hair I then put my hair into a shower cap. I get my blow dryer and on a low setting I point the dryer at the shower cap and try to get an even distribution of heat. I do this for 5-10 minutes then wrap a warm towel around the shower cap. This is hands down the best curly hair gel on the market. I use 2-3 pumps for my whole head and scrunch it in after applying a leave in conditioner to very wet hair. It starts by drying hard but then as the day goes on, your hair looks and feels so soft and the curls are still in place. If i’m looking for a stronger hold because of a slick-back ponytail or something, I usually opt for a stronger gel like Not Your Mother’s. However, I still use Uncle Funky’s Daughter every single day and it’s been excellent for my 3b hair! And CGM approved!!! Worth every penny and lasts long.Natalie
I branched out a year ago to try new products for my wavy hair and I stumbled on this one. I wasn’t sure at first because it’s a weird texture. Kinda like a watery gel. I wasn’t 100% sure it would help my hair. Omg. I was so wrong to be skeptical. This stuff is in my everyday hair arsenal. I scrunch this into my wet hair after a shower. Sometimes it’s all I use and it leaves my hair soft and gently defined. If I want stronger definition, I add in Marc Anthony’s curly mousse right after this and scrunch it in with a t-shirt then let air dry. Once dry, I scrunch with my hands or a t-shirt to get the “crunch” out and my hair looks so good after. It holds the waves in nicely all day long and strong.kelly.w
Feels just like snot!! And gets the job DONE! So just so that you know, I’m a lazy 4C natural. Meaning I do bare minimum to maintain a few strands of hair on my non-chemically treated hair. I literally do not use styling products, partially out of laziness but even more so out of fear of breakage and dryness etc. I took a chance, and for the first tome in years, I tried a styling product, and this was it. It’s a gel with the exact consistency of snot. First wash your hair, condition, leave in condition or whatever, and then while your hair is still soaking wet, apply a GENEROUS amount. Finger detangle/shingle/whatever you to that usually gets a little more definition in your hair and boom. Soft not crunchy curls. Such an amazing hold without feeling like your hair is going to fall out. No flaking. I heard other reviews and videos rave about this mousse and had to try it. I have to say, they are right. I have fine texture, low porosity natural hair. My hair is short, but when stretched the back comes to my collar bone and the front comes to the end of my nose (to give you a reference). I get good definition using a gel, but this product really defined my hair, and I had more body. Body is a problem for those of us with fine hair. My curls lasted 4 days, especially in the top which is longer. My hair is shorter on the sides and since I sleep on my side the definition fades sooner. I still had a little definition on my sides day 4, but the top still had curls. The first time I used it I only used a moisturizing deep conditioner and the mousse. It did great defining my curls, but left my hair very dry. The next time I used a moisturizing deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, a moisturizing gel, and a sealing oil with the mousse. Sounds like a lot, but this is the process I have to use every wash day to keep my hair moisturized for 3 days. I did not have any problems with dry hair at all this time. I have thick heavy waves/curls. The product worked well when I used it with a leave in conditioner. The day I was in a rush and didn't put a leave in my hair was course and felt dehydrated. It doesn't help to clump your curls on it's own, but was easy to style and mold my curls with my brush. Dried quickly and smelled good. I didn't get a chance to use it for a long period of time to see the overall quality. The bottle untwisted just enough while under my sink and spilled. Luckily I had it in a container. The bottle easily untwist. You should keep the product right side up and make sure it doesn't knock over. Unfortunately it's the bottle quality that keeps me from buying this again. I would suggest checking The Doux’s channel on YouTube to see how she uses the styler depending on the length of the hair. I have a short natural tapered cut and the mousse works best went I finger twirl the top and front. I love the slip and the shine. Even though the hold is soft – it survives my sweaty workouts. This is the only gel that makes me hair curly/ wavy after I put it on, I don’t need to scrunch my hair to see results, it just starts to curl. After that of course I scrunch it to my desire of curliness* but this is in my top 5 of gels. I don’t like gels bc they contain a lot of harsh stuff that can damage and dry out your hair but this here is the best! You won’t go wrong and the smell is like.. in between masculine and feminine. I can’t describe the smell but in my opinion is smells great. Definitely not fruity, it’s smells woodsy I guess but again I’m not good at describing this. I have fine curly hair that misbehaves between cuts, especially if I’m trying to grow it out. A combination of this product and the REDKEN CURVACEOUS RINGLET works really well as leave in conditioning products. I adjust the balance as my hair grows. If I need more weight I use slightly more of this product. If my hair is long enough and has good weight and needs definition or fly away management, I use the other.Donna T

What I love about this product is that it actually set my curls and make them last for about 3-5 days, they stay in shape and looking good. the product is very tick what makes me take a little more time to have fully spread on my hair ( if you will use it make sure your hair is REALLY wet) it also leave my heart looking white while wet which I don’t feel confortable with ( in case I have to go outside I don’t wanna look like clown) the product last me about 27 days using it twice a week. This is so bomb. I have curly hair! I orginally brought it home from Dominican Republic. And it’s way better for high porosity curly hair that’s damaged. Like if your hair has been through it and it on the damaged side and needs a lot of moisture this is for you. That’s why it’s for Me lol!! This is my new favorite hair product. As someone with a lot of hair, but very fine hair, it’s hard to find a product that doesn’t weigh me down- this allows for my hair to have shape and volume that lasts. The best results I’ve had came from using a denman brush to curl my hair, smoothing the roots over once. This method achieved beautiful formed waves for three days after. Verb is much less expensive than other curl products I’ve tried and it out performs all of them. I would highly recommend this to anyone with loose curls or waves, especially those with fine frizz prone hair like me. For reference I use this after I wash my hair with a kevin murphy cowash. Wow, I love this! I was hesitant because I see a lot of influencers use it and I always worry that that over hype things. But it really does reduce frizz and hold curl. A little goes a very long way, so it is easy to overdo it. My hair is 2C/3A and I live in a pretty dry climate and this was the perfect balance. I will say it did seem to "weigh down" my hair a bit more than other products, however, I'll take slightly less volume to have non-frizzy and light curls. It’s not hard to go overboard with this hair oil if you have thinner hair. I would say my hair is of a medium thickness and two sprays at an arms length distance is more than enough to make my curls shiny. I do two sprays and run my fingers through my hair to evenly spread it out. It’s a thinner type of oil so distributing is easy. When I applied too much It looked like I spilled baby oil in my hair.annalee.c
I actually love this product. It smells fantastic. I have very coarse, thick, wavy and frizzy hair. I am also white. I am pretty sure Carols daughter was designed for African woman’s hair. I have purchased quite a few of their products and they are fantastic but and very concentrated. For me and As I wrote about how my hair type is, I must be very careful about the amount I use. A little goes a VERY long way. Too much will tend to become a weighed down greasy situation. Would not recommend for anyone with Caucasian fine, thin hair at all. I went to CVS because I ran out of leave in conditioner. I picked up my usual SheaMoisture Leave In Conditioner 100% Pure Jamaican Black Castor Oil and the Taliah Waajid Curly Curl Cream right next to it. It caught my eye because the container was small and I had never heard of the brand. Plus you couldn't beat the price so I said let me just try this and worst case it's not expensive. WOOOOO let me tell you that I came on this website just to LEAVE A REVIEW because my curls are like never before!!! I almost want to return the expensive SheaMoisture Leave In. Works really well on short naturally curly or wavy hair when dry. Not greasy or oily. Washes out really clean without leaving residue. Compared several products in the store for about 1/2 before deciding to get this item. Will probably be buying this item regularly. Also, I do not use this product every day as I have found that using it maybe a few times a week ( 3 times at most or every other day) and just moving the natural texture of my hair around provides adequate grooming keeping my hair looking natural and not stiff or saturated with hair grease and gook. I have short, slightly soft, and loose curly wavy hair that is probably less coarse and kinky where the texture of this cream is stiff enough to provide definition but not so stiff that it flakes up or feels greasy to the touch. I did not expect much from this product having purchased it to fix up my hair after being unable to afford a haircut for a pending job interview. I didn't get the job but my hair still looks great from the product and save me $35 at the barber.Michael
I started using this cream because a friend of mine said that it would tame my hair LOL.
