This stuff is AMAZING on locks. My man has very coarse hair and natrual hair! So it will most likely work on both loose and tight curls. We have been using Mango twist. With this one I only have to lock his hair every 2 weeks but with any other one it’s every week. This stuff is BOSS. If you are having trouble with your locks definitely give this stuff a go! I use this only when I have braids that include extension hair added. I love the smell of it over time. It doesn’t leave my scalp weighed down or dirty. Plus it keeps the frizz away from my braids for longer wear.keara.d

I have used this product several times before finally giving up on it. My hair is very fine and there isn't much of it. I try to avoid heat styling it as much as possible and most often, I style my hair by braiding it and sleeping in braids overnight. Typically, I will use a curling lotion that is lightweight and distribute a little bit throughout the ends. In the morning, I will spray with hairspray and the style would last at least a couple days (more when it's not super humid out). This product, sadly, didn't actually do anything. The braid wouldn't ever completely dry and the hair would be left a bit crunchy. The wave pattern would not show up as nicely and I would end up pulling my hair up in a bun because it would look so uneven (some strands are wavy while others are straight). This might work for a more beachy, messy vibe. I did enjoy the scent of the product and the packaging is absolutely breathtaking (I live in the south and purple is my favorite color), so I had to at least give a couple stars for that. But, the product itself is just not satisfying enough for me to recommend to others.Irina

I was excited to try this product because I do love Beachwaver products. I tried it on dry hair after Sarah suggested this to someone on social media complaining about experiencing frizz still. So I used it on dry hair and did Dutch braids. I left them in several hours, took them out, and yes, my hair was wavy. However, I get the same result had I not used a product such as this on my hair. Some of my hair didn't even have any waves whatsoever. I brushed it out and there wasn't any frizz, which was nice. The results didn't last the next day. I applied once again and had to braid again. By the end of the day, I felt that the product built up a bit and caused my hair to be oily. That's my own issue and I learned not to over apply. It does smell like coconut and not too overpowering for those who are scent sensitive. I will use it here and there for braids, but I do like the way that it moisturizes my ends, so I will continue to use it solely for that.Sapphireandice

I wanted a hair product to use as a final stage after using a pre-styler and blow-dryer once I get out of the shower. I tried many and often faced the same issue, I get my hair just the way I like it with plenty of volume and then whatever product I use would usually lessen that fullness. This truly is AMAZING! After my stylist told me about this product, and after reading many amazing reviews about it, I decided to try it out. And WOW, this product delivers! I tried bedhead matte separation wax, the Salon Guy Clutch XL, Baxter clay pomade, hanz de fuko sponge wax, hanz de fuko claymation, hanz de fuko quick sand, Mr pompadour paste, Blumaan, Kevin murphy rough rider, mitch reformer & mitch matterial (which I think are both really great pre-stylers). My very favorite so far was the Kevin Murphy Night Rider. It's a fantastic paste, matte finish, phenomenal hold. BUT you have to be careful not to apply too much because it can become a bit heavy and shiny the next morning. Now this stuff, the moroccanoil texture clay is on another level. It gives a ton of volume, a ton of texture, a totally matte finish, like, you can't even see you even have anything in your hair. It gives this tiny "grit" to your hair, a bit of a lived in look, and the hold is amazing! It holds super well, and yet, it feels like there is nothing in your hair. It also thickens your hair.. So if you have medium – fine hair like me, you'll look as if you had twice the amount of hair on your head! LOL It's a clay, and yet, it's easy to scoop out, and it breaks down in a very nice, creamy way, making it very easy to spread through your hands and apply to your hair. Some clays and waxes are difficult to apply to dry hair because they tend to pull the hair as you do.. This here, thanks to its creamy feel once warmed up, goes into the hair like butter! You'll feel a bit of a gritty feel as you apply.. But that's the effect this clay gives, that second day lived in look, but yet very natural. The Hold is truly amazing in it! Because it's light, and perfect for fine hair as it swells the hair, you can layer this product for more hold. Start with a little amount, and add a little more if needed. It's super versatile.. You can get a soft hold and nice texture, with just a tiny amount, all the way to a lived in, messy, texturized look, with a super strong hold, depending on how much you use. This does the same thing as their texturizing spray, but, with a strong hold! The smell is a unique, very clean and fresh smell. It's not overpowering, it's very light, and smells really nice! I don't even need to use texturizing powder anymore, this does everything LOL You can also use a little bit as a pre-styler, for great volume and body. And because it has argan oil, it also acts as a heat protectant.. Honestly, it's truly an amazing product.. I'm glad I decided to try it out.. Doesn't matter your hair type, length, this will give you that awesome, next day, texturized, lived in look, with a great hold. I strongly suggest you to try it out.. Let's start by saying that I've tried lots of putties, clays, gels, and sprays on my hair. My hair can be heavy in one area and thin in others so it will be difficult to manage at every chance it gets. However, this Clay is where it's at I'm telling you. This stuff I will put a little tiny bit in my hane maybe a dime's worth no more than a nickel, because now than a nickel would be overkill. And it just seems to work like magic. This is my hair savior! It smells great. It even makes me look great! It's an awesome product. I recommend it to anyone who has hair, guy or girl. I normally use a different hair gel brand for my curls but after trying Dark & Lovely’s Let’s Jam condition & shine hair gel, I do believe I will be using this going forward. The extra hold for certain hair style types is phenomenal, this is great for hair braiding, hair twisting, and keeping any edging slick and in place. Depending on the weather outside most hair gels leave a lot of visible dry flaking or gel clumps that are sticky and hard to wash out, with this hair gel it was minimal if at all. You get a large sized container that is affordable, and you really don’t need a lot of product either. This gel worked better on my curls that any gel thus far, and I have really long, thick curly hair. I would definitely recommend to other with similar hair types.Candy19

So upon opening this gel, inside it looks like a big black gel ball. When you wipe it with your fingers to get some out, you will actually see that it is a clearish color. The problem is that it is very greasy. I put on quite a bit to get it to hold because it says extra hold but it felt more like a hair grease than a gel. The smell is ok, not horrible, it smells partially good, but there is a weird after smell there that lingers that I can't put my finger on. I would not purchase this for a good holding gel because it feels like a hair grease instead of gel. So, if you like hair grease to slick your hair for conditioning as well then this is great for that. If you want a GEL that will actually hold, then this is not it!eddieboy67

I shampooed first and then conditioned my hair today with the Design Essentials almond and avocado sulfate free shampoo then conditioned with the almond and avocado moisturizing detangling conditioner. After shampooing and conditioning, I applied the curl defining gel. I love the shampoo, the conditioner and the curl defining gel. I will purchase these products again. I struggled with definition and really had to look for a product that defined my curls. I was buying pricey product thinking that it would define my curls but eventually I found out I could save money!! I love mixing this gel with leave in conditioner as another reviewer mentioned. I rake though shea moisture’s curl smoothie and follow up with this product. I end up diffusing my hair after. Do not sleep on this product!! It is affordable and helps bring the definition I wanted. Don’t Shrink is a CGM approved protein gel with olive oil, shea butters, and glycerin. Flax seed really helps my hair retain its curl shape, the large jar helped me explore different styling techniques to see what works best with my hair and the price helped me feel better about re-styling failed experiment days vs conserving pricy product; which let’s face it, there’s a lot of fails in the beginning for curlies lol. I tried it out with super long hair and also with a long bob reset chop and both had consistent results. I achieved really great definition with a hard hold, I still had frizz but I also know this is most likely user error since I’m always improving my routines. I clarify every wash so I’m not one to comment on build up. I really wanted to love it, but I found out mid tub that I prefer shrinkage while I train my curl type. This is an amazing product. I don't usually like the "bouncy" gels for my hair, but this one is it. It's super moisturizing, hold VERY well, and most importantly it doesn't flake! It doesn't leave any unsightly residue on my hair or make it feel gummy or tacky, which similar gels usually do. I'm always looking for the best products for braiding. The Rice Water & Aloe Braid Gel is a new addition to my hair care regimen. A little goes a long way with each braid, and they come out neat thanks to the light hold from the gel. I also like that it doesn't have the heavy scent of alcohol. Don't let the 2oz size fool you, if used correctly, one container should last for a while. I braid once a month, so I'll be using the gel frequently. I have low porosity had and this is the only braid gel that has actually not left product build up in my hair. It also didn't leave my hair feeling greasy which other braid gels tend to do. I have never tried a braiding jam before and this product was decent. It seemed really greasy and heavy. It had the petroleum jelly texture and since I was putting it on my 4 year old she really couldnt express if she liked it. I will give it props that it did give her great moisture for the entire week. it doesnt really have a smell to it so this would be great for people who are sensitive to smells. I on the other hand prefer smells to my hair products so I wish it smelled better. all in all it did its job. it could just be that it is product user inexperience and not necessarily the product. im going to be giving it another try.kellie.g

I really like this braiding jam. It's lightweight, kind of greasy but it keeps your hair moisturized and ur ends sealed nicely. I use it ony son's thick curly hair and it's amazing. It makes his hair easy to braid and the braids stay neat for weeks instead of days. This product really saved me some time while braiding and parting.
