The worst part was that it took so long to roll the hair on the rods. As you can see from the picture the curls turned out very well and really lasted a long time. A few months ago I got a purple balayage. Ever since the salon color faded I was using color depositing conditioners to boost the color every couple weeks. Testing different colors to find the perfect muted lavender/mauve shade. I tried the KE color depositing conditioner, overtone, but they were too cool toned and not enough pigment. I was very nervous to try this because the box only shows it on pre-lightened super dark hair. I decided to go for it and I really like how it turned out! My hair is a medium/dark brown with balayage. The previous purple color in the lightened sections of my hair was almost completely faded when I applied this toning gloss to my hair. I applied it all over, brushed product through and only left it on for 15 minutes because application took a while for me. I have a lot of hair to go through. I love the how the purple looks in my balayaged sections. It does darken up your natural color a little too. Very happy with the results! I love Kristin Ess products. I wish she would bring back the amethyst temp spray tint! I used the rose gold one to help warm up the cool toned purple conditioners and the application was so easy. Sorry for the long review, but I hardly saw any for this shade so I thought I’d share my experience!GraceK
Details: Natural color: level 5/6 brunette. Texture: wavy/straight mix. Relatively thick and long (waist-ish length). Treatments done: I have growing out balayage highlights. I hadn’t gotten a professional gloss color for about four months at this point. KE glosses used: 2/3 smoky topaz 1/3 bittersweet mixed. I used the equivalent of one bottle and it was more than enough. I processed for 20 minutes. First photo with lighter hair is the before, second with darker hair is after. These products, lol. I’ve had experiences with them all over the place. I bought the clear ones years ago and stopped because I didn’t feel like they did anything. I tried the tortoise shell (coppery) color two years ago to use on brassy highlights, it did nothing and made my hair super dry and frizzy. I wanted to give these another try because I have balayage highlights that I haven’t decided if I want to get redone or grow out. They were getting super yellow and brassy, clearly grown out, and dry/brittle. I wanted to darken them a bit while I decide and cool down the yellow. I bought two colors: smoky topaz and bittersweet. I did the strand test on these, and oh my god, DEFINITELY don’t skip this step if it’s your first time using these and follow the instructions in the box. I took two small chunks/strands of hair that had some visible yellow brass in them and let them process for 20 minutes. The smoky topaz did nothing for me, the bittersweet turned my hair almost black! And it had a green look since it went over yellow hair. Kristin Ess doesn’t recommend this, but I decided to mix the two colors. I did 2/3 smoky topaz and 1/3 bittersweet. I mixed up about a teaspoon’s worth of this and did the strand test again. I was happy with it: it felt close to my natural hair color! I think it worked with these two because they both have cooler undertones. Because the smoky topaz did nothing for me, it diluted the bittersweet. These colors did leave my hair softer and shinier than expected, not dry like I’ve had in the past with others. I’m happy with how the color came out, I am curious to see how long it will last. But overall, I would do this again for a quick and reasonably cheap color touch up.VB
Last year I dyed my hair for the first time. I am a natural “bronde” like the Smoky Topaz box says, but went dark brown. I then made several attempts to dye it back to a more blonde color, however I eventually gave up and cut most of it off, letting the roots grow out a for few months. The difference between my roots and dyed hair was drastic because of the contrast orangey tint to the dark blonde color I last dyed it. My natural color is slightly cooler and slightly more brown, but I didn’t want to dye it again to blend the two. (I don’t have a good before photo of the roots, but there was a definite line between the two that was noticeable.) This product did what what it claims to do – reduced brassiness without darkening my overall color. However, I did use a blue shampoo and conditioner afterwards for maximum results. The difference is hard to see in photos, but my roots and dyed hair are now much closer in shade and the difference is hardly noticeable. I am almost back to my natural color, if not a little better because my hair is naturally a little brassy. So I want to start by saying I live in the desert and have super thin dry hair, so I was SUPER excited to try this product (I used all four products – shampoo, conditioner, mask, and leave in condition together). I used all four products for this account: At first I was only going to give this a 3 because on day one of hair being washed, I feel like my hair still ends of feeling and looking really dry (especially the tips – see photos). BUT day two my hair looked/felt better, and day three my EVEN better! I showered all three days, it only used the products the first day, so you can see the progress of how my hair softened, my curls came out, AND I LOVED how my hair felt day 3/4. Normally with silicone products day 3 I HAVE to wash my hair again because the product is so heavy at my roots, whereas I LOVED how these products made my hair feel several days later. I still took off a star because of how dry my hair feels on day one. I have to suffer through one day of my hair bit feeling so great to get to better hair days, and I don’t really love that aspect. But overall I would definitely recommend to others. Perhaps slightly ticker hair wouldn’t have as much problem on day one – mine is just so very thin.rebecca.d
I've used this product intermittently for 15+ years. Over the last 5 or so it's become my go-to. I have fine, type 3 curls, low/medium porosity and medium density. I can't even begin to tell you how many different shampoos/conditioners I've tried, and I always come back to this set or the Ultra Hydrasource. I've never experienced any hair loss whatsoever, in fact, I have with other brands and once I go back to this it stops. The smell is absolutely amazing also! I wash my 1-2x a week with this, and in between I use a co-wash from Curlsmith. I always start with using the detangling solution from this line and brush through in the shower with my wet brush. I rinse, shampoo with this, then use the Hydrasource conditioner or a deep conditioner. I comb that through and let sit for several minutes and rinse. Even with very dark natural hair and having bleached highlights (touch ups every 3-6 months), my hairdresser brags about how healthy my hair is! I get a trim every 8 weeks, and she always tells me I don't even need it because of how healthy my ends are, even during post-COVID hair issues I was experiencing (loss and thinning). My husband also started using this when he ran out of his Redken Brews and his hair is VERY fine and thin, and he said he couldn't believe how much better his hair looked and felt (he's also a curly guy, only getting his hair cut/shaved 2-3x year). ⭐️First of all let’s get this out of the way, I was incentivized. I received these samples for free from Influenster and matrix for my honest opinion⭐️ Now that’s out of the way… Oh my hair is loving me right now… I waited until shampoo day and it was well worth it! After using the amazing shampoo I was a little skeptical that my hair would take to this conditioner because it’s so damaged and after I wash it I usually have to put a million and one conditioning products in it just to make it manageable!!! Well let me tell you this is not the case! After issuing a decent size dollop I ran it through my hair starting at the ends and working my way up to the root. Then I added a little bit of water to make it activate a little bit and VIOLA! I let it sit in my hair for about 5 to 10 minutes and then I rinse with lukewarm water. I gently towel dry my hair afterwards and went to come through with a white tooth comb. This is the first time that the comb actually ran through my hair because my hair is so damaged. I literally want to cry. If your hair is out of control and it’s breaking to no end you should really try this and give it a little time and you will see such a difference. I want to wash my hair so badly again but I know I have to wait till it’s actually dirty! The smell is so lovely and it doesn’t fade away but it’s also not overbearing. Give it a try it!! If you're looking to keep the ends of your hair healthy between cuts this is certainly the product for you. I only get my hair cut around every 6 months and this product keeps the ends of my hair from getting dry or forming split ends. You also don't have to use much of the product each time which means it lasts for ages. I would definitely recommend this product, I think the quality is worth the price.Rodders

I bought this product because 5RC on the box said LIGHT copper brown. When I googled it, it of course comes up with MEDIUM copper brown. I dyed my hair thinking it would be the color swatch that was on the shelves at Sally's. I used a color remover to remove my old color and get it ready for a light copper brown. To my shock after using that treatment twice and getting ready to dye it with the light color, it came out exactly as this color showing on this page So I used all this treatment on my hair to remove a dark color only to have another dark color. Can't say I'm super happy with how this was all labeled. 5RC that I got on my box definitely said light copper brown and definitely came out as this medium copper brown. Bit disappointed
