20 Best Hard Wood Floor Cleaner (Jan 2023 Update)

I’ve used Bona for over twenty years and have always been happy with it. I bought the refill and used it to do my family room, the last room I had to do for this time. I now have an ugly film that shows marks and has no shine whatsoever. I can definitely see where I used the old I had and the new I just purchased. If something is working, why do you have to change it and make it unacceptable? After reading other reviews, I checked and my container says ‘original formula’, but it is not!Barbara

In our new house we have wood laminate flooring in the living, dining, kitchen, and halls. We did a lot of research on the best way to keep them looking their best. We found out a lot of the products claiming to be the best for this type of flooring, actually makes them cloudy and discolored looking. When that happens, you have to strip the floor, reseal it, and then the floor is never the same. After reading customer reviews and manufacturers reviews, we decided to try the Bona since we are elderly and don’t want to have to strip the floor. We moved in the end of January 2019 and now it is October of 2022 and our floor still looks like new! Best decision ever! We even invested in the Bona mop which makes cleaning the floor a breeze!Corinne M

I bought this cleaner and the Bonz mop because I thought it was a well known brand. Not only does it leave my floors sticky it also does a poor job of cleaning them. I have had to remop the floors because of stickiness with a different product and discovered my floors were still dirty as the residue left was picked up on the second mop head. I have a century old hardwood floor through my kitchen and hallway to the dining room. It is beautiful, but the kitchen has 5 doors – meaning it's the route to everywhere in the house as well as to the back yard. So even more than most kitchens, it's the most used (and most extremely dirtied) floor in the house! I bought the CrossWave to help me out, and it is a miracle to use. But after using up the sample Bissell wood floor formula that came with it, I thought I'd just use my old floor cleaner fluid instead. I was surprised to find out that, although the CrossWave continued to do an excellent job cleaning the floor, the wood floor formula by Bissell really made the wood glow in a way that my trusted old wood cleaning fluid doesn't. I tried others, but just wasn't as happy as I'd been with the Bissell sample. Annoying, because I'd prefer just to pick some cleaning fluid up when I need it, but I can't find it in stores. I confirmed when I received the case that Bissel's wood floor formula streaks less, and glows more. I would only ever buy it by the case, because otherwise with shipping, it's too expensive and inconvenient to run out of.Jean

We use our Crosswave on area rugs and laminate surfaces. Much more effective than steaming and Bona==all of which takes longer. The Crosswave is a bit pricey, but it works better and faster than any cleaner we have had before. Battery almost lasts long enough and the cleaning cycle is a real improvement.Cal

This us a great little starter kit. First, you need to do your homework because there are no instructions for anything except the controller. I mounted this on my truck's fiberglass topper. You need to pay attention to the grounding locations on the panel and provide a ground wire and nut and bolt to them. Yes, you only need one, but I put in two. The cable connector diameter is 1/4", and connector diameter is 3/4", but once you put in one cable, you need more room to push through the 2nd 3/4" connector. I drilled a 1/4" hole next to the 3/4 hole to slide the cable out of the way. You will need grommets and sealant, or I used a marine through-hole connector. Sealed, of course. My truck cap is slightly curved – enough that if I had mounted the solar panel directly, it would have put a bending strain on it and possibly cracked in. I used 1/4" wood slices to make up the difference. I also bought rubber sheets (8"x 8") from Ace Hardware to place under the "feet" . The kit gives you everything you need except the 12v battery to which you connect. Please note that you connect the battery to the controller first. I use my truck in Search and Rescue support, as a radio relay. This solar panel will help greatly in not running down my battery. Surprisingly, the solarpanel was putting out 12.43v when my truck was *inside* my garage. Yes, AZ is sunny but I was surprised.tregrej

This product is great – taking dull floors and making them shine beautifully. It coats the wood floor with a surface shine, which will show dull scuffs if you drag (furniture, etc.) things across it, but is otherwise durable and really looks great. Easy to apply – be sure the floors are clean first, then follow with a coat of this product. It is highly rated everywhere I checked, for a good reason.AuntieTaz

I’ve been using this product for years. originally because they advised me at the flooring store to use this product. As it became more available in retail stores, the convenience made it a staple in my home. Easy to use and not a harsh chemical smell. Dries quickly. I use it with the convenient mop made by Bona. I use the mop system with the sprayer and microfiber cloth. It worked great for awhile but then the sprayer stopped working so i no longer buy the cartridges. Now I just spray the floors it using the regular spray bottle and then mop it up with the bona mop and microfiber attachment.kelly.t

I have been using some of the floor shine products on my hardwoods and have always been just sort of happy. Nothing I used on them was shiny enough. A friend recommend I try Bona. The product was no more expensive than the others I has been using. I noticed a difference right away! While my floors always had a sheen to them, the Bona made them look super shiny! I recently bought Bona wood cleaner and I bought a bottle of polish as well after reading the back of the polish and seeing no warnings about using it on pre-treated flooring. I loved the cleaner. I tried the polish on half of my floor because I thought it would enhance the already subtle shine that my pre-treated wood floor has. WRONG MOVE! Do NOT put this polish on a pre-treated floor or any floor that is already shiny. It created a thin film of gray haze. It was so noticeable next to the half of the floor that I had not used it on. After trying to order the polish remover online, I found that it was not available at Amazon, Lowe’s, Home Depo, Walmart, nowhere! I called Bona and told them my story. At first they wanted to tell me to put more polish on and that I hadn’t put enough on. I would not listen to that. Then they sent me a free bottle of polish remover which I was pleased about. My husband and I had to get down on our hands and knees doing small sections at a time, lots of work, arm pain, back issues, to get that polish off our floor. It took about 10 hours and ibuprofen. Be very very cautious of the polish. It SHOULD be clearly marked on the back “DO NOT USE ON PRE-TREATED WOOD FLOORS”. It is not marked. Further, when I went online I found many other horror stories from people. I will buy their cleaner again! I loved it! I will never buy their polish again and I warn all of you to be very very careful. They say to use on a small area first, but they do not give enough warning to use it on a very small area, let it completely dry, and then compare it to the before. Greetings Sir or Madame: I have been using the recommended Bona with the Young Baby Feet on Front of the Packaging for my Lifetime Mahogany Elm Wood Floors for many years, then I could no longer find it on my local store shelves. I tried the Newer, Water Based, Blue Colored, Bona, yet I never achieved, the same quality of Performance, as I had previously received, from the Bona mentioned earlier, than while using the Bona with the Young Baby Feet on Front of the Packaging. I then tried the Bona Polish. It did not work for me. Trying to remove it was a whole new different ballgame. Things became worst. My perfectly Great Looking, Mahogany, Elm, Lifetime, Warrantied, Full of Life, Wood Floors are now Dull, Lifeless, Filled with Streaks. The point of all of this is, I am not a flooring expert, therefore I do not know the solution to this problem. PLEASE HELP ME FIND, AN IMMEDIATE, PERMANENT FIX TO MY DILEMMA ! ! ! I use this pretty regularly on our hardwoods. Between kids, muddy dogs, a husband that works construction and tracks EVERYTHING inside, and a constant flow of family visiting our house on a regular basis…I spend a lot of time trying to make sure our floors aren't totally disgusting. I've used another variation of Aunt Fannie's floor cleaner, but it smelled very vinegar-y. I didn't totally hate it, but when I got this version of their floor cleaner I was pleasantly surprised at how good it smells! It makes our house smell fresh and clean and I love that I don't have to worry about my dogs walking around on it right after I mop. This is a staple for me now.Raychel C.

I added this into my cleaning regimen recently. I use this solution when I mop “the old fashioned way” and a different solution to spot clean with a bona mop. I used the bona/other solution yesterday – floors appear clean. I mopped for real today with Aunt Fannie’s – the water after I was done was SHOCKING and oddly satisfying. You would have thought I hadn’t mopped in a long time. I might mix up a smaller batch to replace the current solution in my Bona based on these findings!!Lindsey C.

I used this on my laminate floors and I also add just a drop or two to my BISSELL Little Green instead of heavy carpet soap. It has effectively cleaned both the hard floors and carpet/upholstery in the steam cleaner. I really love the minty citrus smell of “Bright Lemon.” It is much smaller than expected but you also don’t need very much. Still, I prefer to buy it when it’s on sale as $8 is way more reasonable than $12.Jeana

I really love this cleaner, I got the lemon scent and it smells really great. I love that it doesn’t smell of chemicals. We have an elderly dog that sometimes has accidents on our wood floors (misses pee pads) and this cleaner is great at mopping that up. Unfortunately for the price I think the bottle is just too small. I use it nearly every day on my floors and this little bottle is not going to last a month. When I can buy a large bottle of vinegar for a few dollars I’m not sure I can justify spending $12 on something so small. If the bottle was larger or the price was cheaper I’d be buying this all the time. Plus the way my husband pours in cleaner, I nearly had a heart attack. I have light pine colored laminate flooring and everything I have used in the past has left a sticky residue or a streaky finish. This product did NOT leave a residue and left a shiny, clean (non-streaked) finish! I am so pleased! I had read some of the negative reviews about smell and am happy to report the only smell I could detect was fresh and clean (I bought the lemon kind!). I diluted 1 oz in 1 gallon of warm water and it made a wonderfully pleasing sudsy bucket of cleaner that dried quickly and to a perfect finish. It also worked beautifully on glazed ceramic bathroom tile floor and left it so shiny, I thought the floor was still wet after it was dry. My granny gifted me massive boxes of Bruce when I graduated high school and went to college and preached to me how that all I bet use on my hardwood floors. Now I understand why!!! I have lived in apartments and homes that have had laminate, sealed hardwood, engineered hardwood, and currently 92 year old oak hardwood floors. It has worked wonders on every single one of them. Does not leave a film or sticky feeling. Leaves it with a natural shine and not overwhelming. I have gifted friends who have used other brands and could not get the white film off despite everything and Bruce took it right off! This stuff is amazing! Stay away from this Rejuvenate product, it’s the worst ever. I’m decided to try them after my usual hardwood floor cleaner was out at the store. Big mistake, the milky substance leaves smudges all over the hardwood floor. Had to use another product to remove the streaks and smudges. This product should be banned from all stores or least put a disclaimer on front that specializes on streaks and smudges on hardwood floors.JR Reyes

I just purchased my first Rejuvinate mop kit at Lowes. I have tried too many cheap mops and pads over the past several years. Most are too bulky to use and they never give me the shine I'm looking for. Many have cheap, oversized pads that flop around making it difficult and frustrating for me. This product is awesome. I live in an apartment so this is the cheapest flooring ever and it was permanently stained. I've been here 5 years and Rejuvinate completely renewed the floor, it isn't perfect, but at least it's clean and it looks clean! I’ve actually been using this for years before I discovered Grove. I have a house full of antique hardwood floors, so not sealed. I use the Bona mop system for daily cleaning because it was recommended by flooring experts. But, when a deeper cleaning is needed, that product falls short. Method floor cleaner for wood has enough safe, gentle surfactants to get the floor really clean, especially if there’s a really dirty spot or some mysterious sticky spill. The almond scent is not overpowering. It’s not my favorite scent. But, it’s not objectionable. I do truly wish Method made refills since the plastic squirt bottle would be easily reusable. I haven’t found any better product on the market than this one, including all brands. I highly recommend this.Catherine D.

I’m very impressed with this product! Although I didn’t notice a smell (I don’t care about the scent part), this cleaned my old imperfect wood floors fantastically! I used to use Murphy’s wood oil cleaner but have seen a lot of negative comments about their new formula so I figured I would try this and I’m impressed! I didn’t use a lot and diluted it with water which it said not to do but I was super impressed with the shine it left behind. My floors feel clean and look shiny. When I lived in a house with almost all hardwood floors there was a lot of sweeping and mopping involved to keep them looking good. As a fan of method products and environmentally-friendly items in general I immediately bought and started using method's Almond Squirt and Mop Hardwood Floor cleaner in conjunction with their now-defunct O-Mop. Yes this squirt and mop liquid was environmentally friendly and smelled lovely. Yes it was easy enough to find at the local Target and even in some grocery stores. That being said it was good really only for a quick touch-up or spot-clean. I still had to get on my hands and knees with a cloth to remove any type of dried stain. It also didn't leave the floors with any type of long-lasting shine like Murphy's Oil Soap did. Eventually I stopped buying this method hardwood floor cleaner and returned to Murphy's Oil Soap. Purchased this product as an update to an original FloorMate, model # H2800, that I've had for many, many years. Have much more floor to wash now and am much older. Wanted the rotating spin-scrub brushes and the much larger wash solution tank which are an improvement over the original model. Am disappointed. The old FloorMate out-performs this newer model in the wet vacuum mode, by far, plus the newer model leaks significantly more wash solution than the older model when stationary. The tank is properly seated so that is not the problem. Thought for sure that Hoover would've gotten a handle on this issue on updated models. While the FloorMate remains a great concept, the performance of this new model is not acceptable to me. Will resort to using my original FloorMate and resign myself to filling the wash solution tank 8-10 times as opposed to 3 times but the flooring will be almost instantly dry. Will 'gift' my sister-in-law with this new model so she can wash her back porch floor with ease as she does not require the same level of almost instant dryness that I prefer.Reenie

This is my 4th floor mate, my last one the brush would not stay attached, This one I'm having a problem with the clear cover staying on. But all in all this is a good concept for cleaning and then rinsing the floor. I wash my floor and then suck up the water, then put clean water in the tank and re rinse the floor. I have 2 old doxie who pee, and this machine really helps with the clean up. I also use it on the rubber mats at my back door during the winter and rainy season. Until summer when I can take my mates outside for a go pressure washing. The company just needs to look at a better design for the brush and now the clear cover.LINDA

I bought this specifically to clean my laminate floors after a basement remodel that left a layer of Sheetrock dust is n the textured laminate. We scrubbed, mopped and everything else to try and clean the laminate, but couldn't get this layer of dirt off the floors. Bought this vac to try since we'd already tried everything else. Mixed the cleaner with a cap full of vinegar and tried an area. Couldn't believe the dirt I emptied out of the container after one pass. After this we decided to move all the furniture and do one whole room. Not only did it get all the dirt out of the distressed floors, it scrubbed the laminate back to looking new. We'll to say the least we ended up doing every room in the house because the dust had come up through all the vents. The heavy traffic areas we did twice and still were able to pull additional dirt off the floors. I read a lot of reviews and did a lot of research before buying and the main reason I decided on this one was because of the rotating brushes. They scrub the floors in both directions and suck up the water when pulling it back. I live this vac and have also used on my tile floors. It does not clean the grout, but I wouldn't expect it to, but does an amazing job on the tile. I will be making another quick pass to n all the floors again just to see how much additional dirt I can get off. Great purchase, don't be scared by the other reviews. The vac will leak a little when water is in the cleaning container and you leave it in one spot, so if storing with water in the tank, our a towel under it.Doug

Recently we ran out of the Bona Hard-Surface Floor Cleaner and happened to get the new and improved version. Don't waste your money! It streaks and leaves a sticky film and the With the new and improved formula, the floor is no longer shiny. It is now dull and shows prints. The old stuff worked great! With the new and improved formula you are to use a damp mop which gets the floor too wet no matter how much you wring out the Bona microfiber mop, plus it still leaves the floor dull, streaked and sticky. Bring back the old formula and I'll give it a 10!Margie101

I bought this cleaner to clean my tile floors because my understanding is that it’s a neutral cleaner. When the professional floor cleaning company came out to clean them, he showed me a crazy amount of film he had to work to get up. This is the only cleaner I use. What should have only taken the company a couple hours now will take the entire day. And I have to spend extra money to have the film removed. I would like to know in what universe this product does not leave residue on a laminate floor? I sprayed it on, dry mopped it like it says in the instructions and the resulting floor was embarrassing. Streaks, residue, total badness that took me two hours on my knees with one wet and one dry towel to clean up. Wow. I cant think of a product that sucked more than this. Try diluting the heck out of it (about 5 or 6 sprays into 6 cups of so of hot water) and then use it to clean. THAT made all the difference!! Clean as a whistle! I think this is just too potent in its bottled form; dilute it way down and see what you think before you toss it.kimkats

This product is great! I have not found a sanitizing cleaner with so low fragrance as this one. I cannot use bleach or ammonia based products and usually use basic dishwashing soap to clean my kitchen, but the hard floor sanitizer that kills 99% of bacteria has nearly no smell which is great because I am extremely sensitive to fragrances and avoid them all together. It doesn't appear to have dyes either. I use it with the CrossWave Max and it really gets the job done!Tamra

I unfortunately had my baby of 19 years pass away. I tried until the last moment to keep him close to me. If he had his mistakes in the house, it was ok! Just a little cleaning. Then I got overwhelmed. Then I had to put him down – just shy of 19 years old. After a little grieving time, I found he had beenreleasing himself in the corner of a closet I never use. I received the product for free from the #GenerationGood community in return for an honest review, these opinions are 100% my own. This glass cleaner is amazing! It cleans well, is streak free, smells great, and is safe to use. We have a toddler and a dog so our windows and patio doors need to be cleaned often. the glass cleaner cleaned sticky fingerprints and dirt from our doors and windows without any scrubbing involved and I didn't have to go over it several times to remove streaks. I love that it is safe to use and made without synthetic ingredients. The scent is nice and subtle, not overpowering. Also, it has a nice sprayer on the bottle. It mists nicely on the window versus being a stream so it doesn't drip down everywhere. I do plan to purchase this in the future.laurah1

So i received this seventh generation new seaside sparkling scent glass cleaner few days back for Free from #generation good. Before trying this new glass cleaner we used to use All purpose cleaner for cleaning glass and realized later that it used to leave a residue on the glass. When Generation good offered me to try this product for free then i took this opportunity and requested this product. After trying this product i would say all this long i was using a wrong product (All Purpose cleaner) for cleaning glass. There are few rhings in this product i would say are best 1) YOU HAVE TO APPLY A VERY SMALL AMOUNT TO GET THE RESULTS. I have applied only a small amount of this seventh generation new glass cleaner on the huge glass in my bathroom and it cleaned all the marks and everthing at one go. After cleaning it was shining as if the glass has come straight away from the market. Before this i used to apply large amounts of All Purpose cleaner on the glass and even after applying large amount i never used to get satisfactory results. 2) IT HAS NO FRAGNANCE AND IS CHEMICAL FREE. Earlier i used to apply my All purpose cleaner on my Glass dinning table which used to be full of chemicals and strong fragnance which was actually pretty bad. The smell was so strong that it used to stay for hours even when we used to have food there. But now after using this seventh generation product i dont feel the smell of any chemicals. 3) IT DONT LEAVE ANY RESIDUE. My All purpose cleaner always used to leave the residue on the glass snd gave the glass a blurry look but this product cleanes it so perfectly that it shows thats its absolutely meant for cleaning glass. After using this product i would say definitely that i am going to buy it in future. Infact Generation good has given me such a huge bottle and since the small amount is enough for one time, i would say this bottle can be used for long run. So it shows that it can be COST EFFECTIVE. I was skeptical of this one. But, the Seventh Generation Glass Cleaner works great. It leaves my windows and mirrors clean and streak free and has a very subtle fragrance. I'm sensitive to dyes and fragrances, so it's nice to start seeing cleaning products without them. With small children in the house, it's also nice that the smell is subtle and not strong. Even the actual spray nozzle was better. It disperses the product so well that I can use just one spray to clean my bathroom mirror. It does an ok job adding back shine to dulled out wood floor surface. It's thin milky fluid that is poured on the floor and mopped once the floor's prepped/cleaned. It's an easy application anyone can handle. The issue I have with it is that it requires/recommends microfiber cloth to mop with it. I happened to have one laying around at home but if you don't have one, you need to get one or find an alternative. I didn't catch that at first and used the papertowel to wipe and it left a film of hazy residue on multiple spots which is unsightly. I mopped the area again with a microfiber cloth and went away. I was concerned it would leave chemical odors but it didn't. It contained a lot of different chemical material that makes me wonder what long tern effects it would have on the wood. Overall, it's a nice product to restore the dull surface if you have a hard time doing with normal cleaning.Hockeycc

My husband and I have considered having our hardwood floors refinished. They're dull, scratched and had been heavily abused before we bought our house. Add kiddos and a Labrador, and my hardwoods never look good. I try to keep a tidy home and my floors have been a huge source of grief for me. I've tried many other products that promise to "add shine" to my floors, products designed for heavy traffic, and all failed. They would add shine, but quickly scratch, scuff and end up looking worse. In fact, I almost didn't try this product because of so many failures in the past – but I'm glad I did! First I gave them a basic cleaning, then applied two coats of the restorer. It's been 10 days and my floors are still looking gorgeous! They have a beautiful shine that hasn't been scratched or dulled – by our dog running through the house or my kiddo dragging chairs across it. I am beyond thrilled with this product!Jewelz

I’ve been using the rejuvenate professional wood floor restorer with satin finish for about a month now. My job is to remodel homes. I thought I would give this product a try, and I was happy that I did. Rejuvenate fills in the lines and cracks and restores the floor with a water based polyurethane. This has a satin finish, so the door looks shiny and natural when finished. This is a 32oz. bottle and will clean about 525 square feet of floor. This is by far the best floor rejuvenate product I have used. The process is easy, and only takes about 45 minutes and the cost is great compared to hiring a professional to do the job.Dman7576

This is awesome because I don’t worry about my pets coming into contact with chemicals on the floor. The scent is fresh but natural and not overwhelming. It fades really fast which I like because I don’t enjoy fragrances in the home. The floor is really clean and never tacky feel or cloudiness left afterward. Love it! I hope it’s back in stock soon. Been getting more cautious about toxicity in cleaning products and Attitude has been my go-to product to clean my wooden floors, tiles and marble floors. I got this floor cleaner because I wanted something child-friendly, especially with a little toddler crawling and rolling all over the floors. It works great on our tile floor and smells great too without any strong perfumes. It does leave a bit of a streak on tile floors, but can be remedied by wiping off with a dry cloth after mopping.iHerb Customer
