Best Highlights For Curly Hair (2024 Update)

I decided to try this product. I have black hair, which I have dyed with black hair dye to cover grays. I knew that this will lighten my hair and pull out the red. Now it's too brassy. What color can I put on this to tone it down? Blue conditioner? I was hoping for a milky brown color as the end result.Selly

I have medium brunette hair and this kit turned my hair orange. It says that people with brunette to black hair can use this product. I have used many highlighting kits by L’Oréal and had wonderful honey blonde highlighting results. I also regularly color my roots with L’Oréal, so I am not new to coloring. I bought this kit by Clairol on sale and what a mistake that was. I will only use L’Oréal from now on. Do not recommend.Stefanie

Love It. I've now used this 3 times. The first at the tips, the second up on the mids and the third was to add highlights. I used a highlighting cap and use blue conditioner every few weeks. It did not damage my hair in the slightest. I got a lot of compliments. I have natural dark brown hair and it came out an ashy/caramel color and not the slightest bit orange. I will mention that my hair was 100% virgin. There was no color on my hair when I used this…that may affect the results.Kristen

I really liked this kit, I've done two so far, my hair is a light brown/very dark blonde to start. I started with the H65 caramel , and the second time did the H85 champagne. Both gave good results. It does take a long time to pull the hair through the cap, especially if you do every hole, and it really helps to have someone to do the back for you. My husband did my whole head and it took us about 2 hours , and he did it pretty quick. I really like that you know you're getting 35v developer, and not just something random. Also like the leave in toner, seemed to really help take out any hint of brass. I know its not as perfect as getting it done at the salon, but I think its as close as can be, for 10 dollars you really can't beat it.Vicki

This highlighting kit is great for "virgin" hair, but if you already have highlights, I would not recommend it. I had significantly grown out roots, and didn't want to pay the price at a salon, so I attempted to do my own using this kit. The highlights ended up brassy and orange towards my roots, and certain parts of my hair turned yellow. The cap didn't allow my hair to be pulled through enough to get close to the root, and it doesn't allow you to put many near the root line, so I ended up with streaky, chunky blocks of hair–not highlights, at all. You will also definitely need someone to help you pull the hair through when you get to the back of your head. It's darn near impossible to see where to pull the hair through on your own, and I even made sharpie marks on the holes, like someone suggested a few comments back. The plastic tool that it comes with bent after maybe 10 holes, so that was a waste. Toner is supposed to help with yellow and orange brassy hair, and the toner did nothing for my hair. It's awful how expensive highlights are in a salon, but do yourself a favor and take the $11 that this costs and save it towards going to a salon. That's where I ended up anyway, so I wish I had this advice before I shelled out more money.kima124

I have used Loreals Frost design highlighting kits for quite a few years now. Its most definitely my go-to at home kit. I will say that when you choose to highlight/bleach your hair at home with a pull through cap, its a long LONG process especially if you have long hair like I do. Depending on how much of your hair you want lightend, and if you want some in the back/bottom you may need help from a friend (or in my case my fiance is actually always eager to help me, he's gotten used to it is really good at it!) Almost every time I use this kit I always end up having to leave the dye in my hair a bit longer than it suggests in the instructions. Normally if it takes too long I will get out the hair dryer blow hot air on my hair to help speed up the process. One thing that took me a long time to figure out was when I washed the dye out of my hair with the cap still on, it would hurt SO bad to take the cap off because bleach damages your hair and its wet knotted up. So, I take the conditioner included in the kit and let it sit on the highlighted hair as directed, wash out the cap glides right off, pain free! I really like that this kit comes with a toner as well in case your hair ends up too brassy/orange. I have never purchased a drugstore highlighting kit before that includes a toner. I always end up with nice cool colored highlights, and people always ask where I had my highlights done I tell them at home!!! Obviously when it comes to highlighting dyeing your own hair at home you risk it turning out a totally different color then what you wanted. Its actually something that always ends up happening to me EXCEPT when I use THIS kit. Every time I've bought used Loreals Frost Design highlighting kit my hair always turns out perfect!!alisha.s

I received this product and was eager to trial it. There’s nothing quite like a colour touch up to make you feel a little more refreshed and energised! The product was super easy to use and everything needed was contained in one compact box. I followed the directions with ease and all progressed to plan. The end result was reasonably true to the desired colour although my hair did end up more orange than I had anticipated. I accept this can happen with hair colours because there are so many factors that contribute to the end result. The hair colour did address my primary concern – covering the dreaded greys! The smell was not offensive as can happen with some brands and I liked the fuss free application process. A major benefit is the convenience of doing this at home at a time that suits me and a cost that is budget friendly! I have had my colour now for a week and the colour at this stage is still looking fresh with great coverage. I would suggest that anyone with thick hair or very long hair should invest in two packets and not chance a dye disaster!! I have long hair but it is very thin so one packet for me was sufficient. I received this hair dye to trial as part of the Beauty Review Crew. I have used this brand of hair dye a few times over the past couple years. In particular, I have used the shade 'Darkest brown' which is the same shade I'm trialing today. The shade has always been is a lovely vibrant colour and the colour result is similar to my natural hair colour. The dye promises to 100% grey hair coverage and it lives up to its promise. Preparing the dye for application is nice and easy. After applying the gloves that are included in the packaging, you pour the colour formula into the bottle of developer before placing the lid back on and shaking the bottle until completely mixed. It's that easy! Then starting at the roots, you evenly apply the dye. The dye goes on smoothly and, surprisingly, the dye scent isn't as strong as other brands. Other brands tend to have a strong chemical smell which makes my eyes water and nose tingle when breathing it in. Clairol have done a great job at producing a hair product with a low scent. One of the best things about Clairol's nice n' easy hair dyes is the short processing times. Unlike other brands that have a processing time of upwards to an hour to reach your desired shade, these dye have an average processing time of just 25 minutes. The short processing time means you can dye your hair during your lunch break, before a night out, or before a date, without it taking up too much of your time. The rinsing process is also quite a smooth and easy process. After applying some warm water, give your hear/head a little massage and then rinse until the water runs clear from all the dye. It normally takes around two minutes for the water to run clear. Then using the conditioning Clairol conditioning treatment that comes with the hair dye, you apply from roots to tips and leave for a couple minutes before rinsing. The conditioning treatment has a lovely scent and is nice and thick. It's almost like applying a luxurious hair mask. It glides onto the hair smoothly and evenly. After rinsing the conditioning treatment you can instantly feel how hydrated you hair feels. Dying your hair often dehydrates it and your hair can feel a little worse for wear. Clairol's hair dyes are gentle on your hair and the conditioning treatment prevents damage and keeps your hair hydrated and feeling lovely. After towel-drying my hair, I blow-dried my hair until was dry. Looking in the mirror you could instantly see how vibrant and lovely the hair colour result was, and it looked and felt really healthy. I am always so very impressed with the results every time and I often get compliments from friends and family members. As my hair grows fairly quickly, I use this product every 2-3 months to help cover grey hairs. Despite dying my hair so regularly, my hair has remained healthy and manageable, and hasn't compromised my hair in any way. The only downside I can mention is that the dye stains your skin. Normally hair spray or acetone on a cotton ball or cotton pad helps remove hair dyes from skin but I found this dye to be lot stronger and barely budged from the skin. I also tried scrubbing with soap and dishwashing detergent but the dye only faded slightly. It took a few days of scubbing before the dye faded completely. The best thing of all about Clairol's Nice n' Easy hair dyes are they cost just $9 from your local supermarket. Sometimes, you can grab them on special for just $6! SIX BUCKS! Staff Review by BC's Tamara I'm not going to lie – I have greys. Lots of them. But the Clairol Nice'n Easy Permanent Hair Dye did a mighty fine job of making them disappear! I have actually used this dye in the past, and can't recommend it enough. The range of colours on offer is wonderful as there is something there for everyone. I have dull brown hair, so usually opt for a warm shade to brighten my colour – I used the Medium Chestnut Brown 5RB. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and after spending 10 mins applying the product as thoroughly as I could, it took a simple 25 minutes to penetrate before washing it out and conditioning. The colour completely covered my greys (which was my main objective), but overall my hair looks so much healthier as it is shiny and the colour has more life to it. My favourite thing about this dye is that the colour brings out the natural highlights I have and it looks really natural. When wet very messy and sticks to anything it touches. I wore an old t-shirt when applying the gel. Once it dries it does not come off until you wet your hair again. It easily comes off when water touches it. Takes a LONG TIME to dry. You have to put on A LOT More than you would think for the color to show. The gel held my curls all day but the color faded by the end of the day. The Ruby was more noticeable than the Rose Gold. Rose Gold gave my blond hair a hint of strawberry blond, I put it all over my hair and it looks like a natural shade of hair. I did not put more on after it dried yet. The Ruby was more noticeable with some red streaks. I tried Ruby 2nd so I put more on my hair than I did the day before with the Rose Gold. Both times took longer than expected to dry. I put the gel on soaked hair and put on a conditioner base, I let my hair air dry and I had to give myself more time to make sure my hair didn't touch anything until it dried. I got some color on my jacket but it came off easily with water. At the end of the day I washed my hair and all the color came off very easily with my normal hair wash routine. I thought the Ruby would be to bright for my blond hair (I didn't want to look like a clown) but it was nice. I got more complements from other people about the red, but I liked the natural look of the pink on my hair better.GG

First off, love EVERY product from Curlsmith. I can’t believe I have to put in 2 stars. Following directions, I used it after applying weightless air dry cream instead of other usual stylers. I used 3 quarter size blobs on my wet, collar length hair. Diffused as usual, after it dried I had absolutely no color difference in my blond hair. I did however have a ton of fine glitter throughout my hair. My hair had very little frizz control without using the soufflé. I’m in for only one bottle of the rose gold and will give it another shot using my usual routine and attempt to work this in on top of styling soufflé. Maybe rose gold isn’t a great color for my blonde hair but I thought I had a great base for any of the colors. I watch a you tube influencer who’s hair is darker than mine her results were amazing with all of the colors. I had such great hopes for a once in a lifetime color change as I’ve never colored my hair.Tanya

I've never dyed my whole head of hair before (I have medium brown hair and I've only done some highlights that required no bleach) but i wanted to experiment a bit. I got the copper color and followed the instructions as directed – the color payoff was awesome and easily buildable. It does transfer when wet but once it's dry it's fine. The bottle said it would dry out your hair and to use leave in conditioner before hand. First time around I definitely did not have enough moisture and it was a bit crusty, so take this bit of instructions very seriously. The product holds curls really well! It worked great for my hair type and I think it honestly helped with frizz too. It washes out easily as well. It's a bit pricey for how little you get especially if you have a lot of hair, but it works well. Instead of saturating my whole head, I've started using the product a bit differently which I think works super well for my needs and for my hair type. I wash my hair and then apply my leave in conditioner or hair serum. Then I mix the copper color with Shea Moisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie and apply as I would a styling product (head upside down, scrunching my hair lol). So I'm not sectioning or completely saturating, I'm just giving a bit of dimension. I think it looks really good this way and the product lasts way longer. Best bleach I’ve used for hair. Comes with a 35 vol developer and enough bleach for a root touch up A whole head I’d recommend buying the full size bottles! Lifts my dark brown hair into a blonde and I never get stuck in an orange phase like other bleaches which makes me usually have to do the process twice. This box is great to dye your hair red if you have dark hair. It comes with two different tubes. Bigger one comes out like a cream and its white ish, then the smaller tube is the actual “dye” or ink lol. It’s labeled as “copper intensifier” or something like that. I was so indecisive to use it but it’s literally needed, because the bigger dye is just white. So you mix them together to get the red. I only bought one because I mixed it with two magentas to get my ideal red lolAmerica

The product itself is great when you receive the correct coloring packet. I give the product 5 stars. The vendor gets a 1. My daughter has used it many times purchased elsewhere. Her friend didn't look at the label and used it on my daughters bright red hair. It was not red it was copper. I asked for a replacement and the company wanted pictures of the box, contents and packing slip. I don't have a packing slip so sent a screen shot of my on-line order form which clearly states the product was shipped to me by them. They keep sending me the same letter and I keep sending them the same pictures. 4 times I have sent pictures. I will not order from this company ever again.Jane

I never used this product before and I’m so impressed with the result. The color is so bright and perfect I’m in love of the color. I use two tubes to color my hair because I have a lot of hair and is kind of long, and yes guys I cut off my hair too is not that long as it was but is not too short too. It has been a long time since I had done a cap highlight on myself but I was open to switching up my hair color and trying out Revlon’s Color Effects Frost Glow. I used the smaller hook end of the tool because I wanted a subtle highlight. It took a few tries before I got the method down for pulling the hair through the cap. I think it is really important to keep the tool flat to your head with the hook pointed up, to get the best results without pulling at your hair. Because I didn’t want a dramatic change, I planned to only pulled hair through the circled holes and only in the front and crown portions of the cap. I found it much too difficult to pull hair from any farther back on my head, so there was no chance I was going to be able to accomplish an all-over highlight, even if I wanted to. I would recommend having someone help you pull hair through the cap if you are going for a full head of highlights and definitely if you are new to cap highlights. The mixing and coloring process was super easy. The mixture did not smell harsh which was definitely appreciated. I would prefer a better fitting pair of gloves to wear. As you apply the mixture and make sure each strand is saturated, the gloves start to slide off and get in the way. I intended to check my hair after 10 minutes but my timer never went off, so it was 15 minutes before I checked. When I checked it, I panicked because it looked very blonde and brassy compared to my chocolate cherry brown hair color. After rinsing it off and shampooing and conditioning with the included toning shampoo and conditioner, I felt a little bit better about the color. It still looked very light (mostly in front) when I started to dry my hair with my Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer. After styling, other than looking a little more 2000’s chunky highlight at the front of my face than I would have liked, I am very happy with the look! I was actually pleasantly surprised that the color chart on the box was accurate! It would be nice to get a bigger packet of the toning conditioner and shampoo. I have shoulder-length fine hair and used the whole packet. Even putting two of each packet would be beneficial especially to those with long or thick hair. I could possibly see myself using this kit in the future, though I would probably force my husband to help pull hair through the cap. From hook to styling, the whole process took me about 3 1/2 hours. It gets a little chaotic trying to hold a mirror and angle yourself just right to reach all of the holes on the cap. If you’re looking to save yourself a hundred (or more) dollars and you have the time and patience, I would definitely recommend this Revlon Color Effects kit!devon.g

Do you ever get tired of dropping $250+ at the salon for highlights? Especially when your hair grows super fast like mine and you have to go often? I’ll be honest, at 13, I had a very bad experience with box dye (haven’t we all?) and swore off it ever since. Well, with very limited skills and a bit more confidence, I gave this box a try. I figured, “it’s summer. If it goes bad there is always the sun.” To my surprise, It didn’t go bad at all, not even close! I actually have some bomb, salon style highlights! I love that this kit comes with a cap and hook. It took a few tries, but once I got the hang of hooking and pulling the hair through I actually found it quite fun and relaxing. The cap goes on nice and tight and will muffle your hearing while it’s on, so I totally suggest doing this when everyone is in bed and you don’t need to really hear anything for a while. The cap is magical because it really does an amazing job at protecting the rest of your hair. There is literally no way to end up with bleach drips or leopard spots on any other part of your hair. This kit is basically fool proof. I pulled my hair through every single hole of the cap. My husband helped me with the very back, as I didn’t want to miss any hair underneath because I wear my hair up often. He had no problems with the hook either. (Because my hair turned out so well, he now thinks he is a master colorist 🙄) My hair is VERY thick. I was worried that I wouldn’t have enough dye with just 1 box, but to my surprise I had just enough to coat every single strand. The color is very easy to mix. Just empty the contents of a powder packet into a bottle containing liquid and shake vigorously. I really appreciate that I didn’t have to worry about having color on too long in one spot and not long enough in others because it looks goes on at the same time, another reason why the cap is so great. I like the smell of hair bleach and always have. This has that smell, but it is very light and not overpowering. My roots were quite dark, so I left this on for 50 minutes checking every 5. I absolutely did NOT want my hair looking orange (hello flashbacks from teenage years!) I was a bit scared to remove the cap because I felt like it was going to pull my hair out at the roots, but it came off with no issues or hair loss. I really love the purple shampoo and conditioner that was provided in the box. It smelled wonderful and made it very easy to get all the product out. I do comb my conditioner through my hair and I did that with this. My hair didn’t feel dry, crisp or brittle at all. The conditioner had a very nice slip and hydrated very well. I’m incredibly pleased with the results overall. My hair has absolutely zero orange tones to it at all. There are so many baby highlights that my hair doesn’t look streaky, chunky or strange. The strands blend in so well giving my hair an overall natural look. My hair feels super soft and healthy too! I was worried it would get brittle because I left the dye on right up until the max time, but I haven’t had a single issue with my hair falling out, breaking or feeling fried. This kit changed my perception of box dye forever! It was so easy to use (you literally can’t mess this up!), made my hair look great and saved me a ton of money! I have always been a fan of Revlon and I have always utilized this product consistently for many years. I attempted to use the product today and was extremely disappointed that they changed the "hook" that is included in the box. It is not as referenced in the "included" items as it has been reconfigured to now be added on the end of the "mixer" versus as a separate item and seems to be cheaper plastic. It bent the very first time I tried it and only got more flexible after only 3 hair pulls (I have very short hair) and I realized it was not usable. I even tried to fix the hook and make my own "notch" several times with no success so unless you have your own "hook" this kit is not usable. It is extremely frustrating to plan to highlight my hair, get everything set up and then realize I can't use the kit due to changes in quality.Disappointed

Holy smokes does this thing curl! I've been staying away from T3 products because years ago Id purchased the flat iron and blow dryer and both were horrible! I couldn't give those things away. Fast forward to now and I needed a 1.5 " curling iron which GHD does not sell. I've had this for over a week and i literally have not used my GHD curling wand, flat iron or 1.25 curling iron. Why? Because this rivals GHD and my curls are smooth and effortless. Now with that being said, the curls do not last until the next morning, but they never did on my thick coarse wavy hair anyway. Another plus is that if I don't have time to curl my hair, I can just run it thru with a slight uplifting curl at the bottom. Looks super cute. I'm impressed.Fresca

This is a beautiful curling iron! I love the white with rose gold accents.It feels very solid and well made as you hold it. One thing I really like is the stand on the bottom that keeps it from touching your countertop. Every other curling iron I have ever owned had a “kick stand” type loop that would get super hot,and inevitably you would get burned trying to pull it out to set it back down. It has 5 heat settings and heats up FAST and HOT. It remembers your previous setting,and you can change heat settings with a simple twist. To turn it off you twist and hold for a few seconds.The end of the barrel is wide enough that you can hold it as you curl and not burn your fingertips. I like that where the cord exits the unit actually twists so the cord won’t get tangled. I have never used a 1.5” iron before and I personally felt like the curls were a bit larger than I expected. I was hoping for beach waves but instead got large, soft curls. I have long, thick, naturally curly hair (that can get frizzy too) and I found that running the wand down my hair top to bottom before curling smoothed the frizz out. I shampooed first and then conditioned my hair today with the Design Essentials almond and avocado sulfate free shampoo then conditioned with the almond and avocado moisturizing detangling conditioner. After shampooing and conditioning, I applied the curl defining gel. I love the shampoo, the conditioner and the curl defining gel. I will purchase these products again. I love the smell of the shampoo which gives so much lather and the conditioner is great also. The curl defining gel enhances my curls and makes my hair so soft and well moisturized. I purchased the color "Dark Navy" hoping to achieve a deep blue color and it did exactly that ! As you can see on my before pic, I had bleached and stained blue hair from previously using semi-permanent blue dye, as well as dark blonde brassy roots regrowth. I did a strand test first to be sure of the color but it came out beautiful ! I was afraid it would come out too dark but it's great 🙂 I will update this review after a few washes to see if it washed out a lot or not.Jessica

This hair dye is super easy to use! I love how it's just like shampooing your hair. I got the color soft greige because I wanted to slightly darken my washed out tips. However, because my hair was already pretty dark, this color lightened my natural black-brown hair and got rid of the brassiness from my previously dyed ends. But… for a couple weeks after using this, there was a slight light purple tinge to my hair in certain lights. So, this product worked, but I probably got the wrong color and that's on me lolLillian

Expected a dark bluey tint to my hair which is naturally dark grey. Turned out lightish brown? Didn't see any hint or hue of blue at all and I didn't want brown. I've brought the same product again after but in black colour and turned out brown as well but more of a blackish brown. Not good unless u want the colour to come out brownishJune

I have long, fine, curly hair that can be a bit unruly and loves to frizz out in the summer humidity. I try to wash it only two times a week so I was excited to try the curl reactivator to see if it helps revive my curls. It works great in tandem with other curl products like the curl mousse. However, if it's the sole product you are using on your hair I will say that it's not enough to combat frizz, for me at least. That being said, it definitely does what says, it revives curls, especially ones that are 2+ days old. It doesn't weigh down the hair and make it greasy. My hair feels really soft after using. I really love the curl line and I'm glad I have this product in my arsenal.Kymber

Really nice lightweight product that is perfect for wave/curl touch ups. If I’m honest, this isn’t too much different in performance to a watered down hair conditioner, but I love the convenience and that they got the ratio right. I have thinning hair and I love that this product doesn’t weigh my hair down or make it oily/greasy at all. To get the most out of this product, I like to slightly dampen with water and then go in with this. Not necessary to take that added step, but it helps stretch out the product more. It has a nice light scent that doesn’t overpower any fragrance you decide to wear that day. Also a huge plus in my book!betablinx85

I got this at the store today because I am trying to embrace my wavy hair for the summer and put less heat on it. I originally went to get the lightweight curl cream and figured I would get both. I tried this today on day 2 hair and I’m pretty impressed. It reformed my curls and took the frizz away. The only reason I deducted a star is because I felt like I needed to spray my hair with water to get the full effect. I was hoping this alone would do the trick. I will still continue to use this though and maybe on day 3,4,5 I can use without water. I have hair extensions as well and it works on them too. I have fine hair and so far I don’t think it’s made my hair greasy. Good product if you’re staring to embrace your natural hair like me.ajb5146

I received this curler complimentary for testing purposes and honestly I could not have been more happy with it. My curls came out amazing and my hair looks smooth. My only con would be that the cord is not as long as I would like it to be. I am the type of person who loves to walk around my room while doing my hair and I mean it's long enough to move and it's not uncomfortable, however I would have liked the cord to be a bit longer. I do feel that the rainbow titanium curler heated up really fast so watch out! I was barely turning it on and I was surprised at how fast it was ready to use! I do not mind having the burning knob for the curler since it does say that 400 is the highest setting, you can figure out where you should be placing the heat setting. Would totally recommend just because the curls came out bomb!Julissa

Before I received this wand I was using an old Remington tapered curling wand that I've had for at least 8 years. I have naturally frizzy hair but get a perm to make it manageable, and use a curling wand to touch up or perfect my curls. I like how quickly this heats up and it works very well. I find the "rainbow titanium" to be pretty gimmicky though, since I really don't think it does anything that different. It doesn't work in extreme humidity – something I've had to deal with since NJ is pretty much a swamp, so my hair has been sad. However it does not burn my hair or make it frizzy, it does a good job of styling and the larger barrel size makes fore great curls. I'd recommend this if you're in the market for a good wand, but if you've already found your holy grail wand, I'd pass. I received this product complimentary to review and test.Sarah

So I bought this off of Amazon because I wanted to try a bigger curling rod. Needless to say I was disappointed. The heat level only goes up to 20 I honestly don’t think it gets that hot. It really didn’t do anything for my fine thin hair. It was $18….So I wasn’t too upset but really hoped it would have curled better. I guess you get what you pay for.🤷🏻‍♀️shellie.p

I've tried a lot of different specialty curly hair product brands and I'm really in love with this conditioner. It has wonderful slip, which is a must for my hair type (2c/3a, fine). The scent was a bit strong at first, but I've gotten used to it now. I always let it sit on my hair for a few minutes before fully rinsing it out. I noticed an improvement in my hair after 2 washes: better curl pattern and more shine! This is my go-to conditioner now. It doesn't weigh down my hair either. LOVE SO MUCH! I have tight curls that boarder coils (like the princess in Brave) so i usually have to use a TON of product but I got amazing results without needing to use 1/2 a bottle of product! This was the routine: 1. Detangle in the shower, apply shampoo to roots/ scalp and massage in, making sure to scrub (No lather but when rinsing it felt very clean, like squeaky clean! My scalp is very happy) 2. Coily Conditioner- I opted for a more intense conditioner since my stylist said i was so under moisturizing and I am sick of needing to use a 1/4 of a bottle on my hair every wash day. It is THICK like margarine and SOO nourishing! My hair only feels that smooth when I do a mask normally and never lasts but it still felt silky even after I rinsed it well with warm water. I also left it on for 5 min and brushed it through with the pattern shower brush 3. Leave in Conditioner – Upside down and de tangled I squeezed some of the water out of my clumps so the product would just be rinsed away and then Smoothed in about 1/2 an eggs worth of leave in and combed through with my fingers, added a little bit more water to train the curls and scrunched in another marble of conditioner. 4. Gel – gel felt almost like a sticky conditioner and I didn’t feel like I needed a ton, probably applied 1/2 of what i used in the leave in. 5. Pattern towel – loved that the towel was extra large 6. Air dry 7. Jojoba oil- When my hair was almost 100% dry (just damp enough to be cool to the touch but not feel wet and just a little crunchy) I scrunched out the crunch with a few drops of the oil and my hair went from looking pretty normal to SO SHINY. I’ve used oils before but goodness! The floral fragrance took a little getting used to but otherwise more than I could have hoped for!Heather P.

LOVE, Love, love it! I initially only bought the style cream, which was hard to distribute through wet hair and made it tacky. Then I noticed the style gel on the website and saw that it was a CREAM gel. Bought it, tried it on my wet hair after applying the leave in, then finished with the Jojoba oil blend and, "WOW!" my waves instantly popped and were elongated. My 2C/3A hair is transitioning and I chose not to do the "big chop", but whether I twist, braid, or bantu knot style, this gel provides superior slip and juicy moisture on wet hair and gives me an almost even wave pattern from root to end. It air dries soft (not glass hard like traditional gels) within a day, and makes my waves–even at the crown roots–feel like butter! I now only use the styling cream on dry hair when re-moisturizing and reactivating waves, as that works better for me. I also use the gel with the rehydrating mist on dry hair when restyling from loose waves to a ponytail to rehydrate and detangle the roots for a smooth finish…oh, and it smells good, too, without overwhelming my sinuses.Sandra C.

I have weird hair: curly on the front but wavy on the back, thinning because of aging and quite dry. This is the first product I try from this brand and I am really enjoying it. PROS: – It has nourishing ingredients like aloe vera, coconut oil and cacay oil. – It leaves the curls looking defined and natural. – It leaves the hair feeling hydrated and very soft – It doesn’t leave a residue, and I tend to apply too much, so that’s good. – It smells so good (at least for my liking) CONS: – It is not a gel, but a cream (at least is how it looks) – It has a light to medium hold. I prefer stronger gels that keep my hair in place for longer, but that’s just my preference. This one forces me to wash my hair more often that I would like because my hair gets frizzy sooner. I had dark violet hair for about a year and it has proven difficult to remove the leftover red color from my hair. All I wanted was to get close to my natural light brown hair color. I went to a high end salon and paid $140 for her to butcher my color. She dyed it a brown color and added some balayage highlights. I had high hopes for the end result and was sadly disappointed. There was just as much red as before. but she also somehow made my roots several different colors, one being very orange and brassy. It was very unflattering. So, I decided to get some color oops, a deep conditioning treatment and this Wella Color Charm in medium ash brown. I used the Color Charm 20 volume developer. After all was said and done, my hair has zero red tones and it is very close to my natural dirty brown color. I was presently surprised that my roots are not all kinds of different shades because the color oops still left them funky. All in all, I would definitely recommend this if you have a sudden fear of professional stylists.amy.l

Went from a level 7 permanent red to a level 7 blonde with T35. A good round of bleach took off quiet a bit of the red but I still had really dark orange. T35 blended everything so well and made the burnt orange color a nice strawberry blonde and helped out all the other yellow and white I had going on after the bleach to make it all a really nice blonde. I didn’t have any experience with bleach or toner. Or even doing my own hair. I’ve never even been blonde before either so, thank god for strong hair.Samantha Hendricks

I love love love wella color charm! I’ve been using it since I was a kid… well 13 or so haha, I'm 29 now! and I’ve gone and used other brands, Ion (JUST DONT!) and such and I always go back to color charm… it leaves my hair nice and soft and healthy and the color holds well, for a good long time, and it always comes out a beautiful color just like the swatch, it’s never really a surprise what you end up with. Which is refreshing with hair color, you want what you intend. My mom also uses wella and has for decades! Their toners (for like blonde hair) work VERY well too. I was blonde for quite a few years in my mid 20's and after bleaching my hair, I would of course always use a toner, I'm a natural red head -before I started going gray that is, which is why I color now- so not using one isn't an option. I always used wella, except for ONCE cause something else was on sale, and it didn't work nearly as well, I actually went back out that night and bought the wella toner I usually use and the next day re-toned my hair. Worked like a charm (pun INTENDED) and I never tried a different brand again. The only other brand I prefer (and it's only for what some would call "extreme colors") is arctic fox and that's only if I'm gonna do like blue or purple. But the wella for other more "natural spectrum" colors works just as well. I'd say wella and arctic fox are even with each other quality and hair health wise. I will say when using wella color, I prefer to use the "original" liquid color rather than the gel kind, but that's because I have a LOT of hair, and the liquid one seems to go farther, and I still have to use 2 bottles, but I have to use 2 no matter what brand I buy. I also use creme developer however and I know that thickens things up, so..the liquid just does better for me. I have some friends who prefer the gel however. It's all about personal preference. I'd say give them each a try and decide how you like them yourself. They seem to make every color in their catalog in both the gel and the original liquid. (Pardon my odd face in my review photo. I was so excited to get this set as I don’t usually do my hair and I wanted to start getting into it more. I had high expectations for this brand but wow, I was so disappointed to receive a USED product! First off, there is no seal, sticker, tape or wrapper that is put on the box to keep it sealed and prevent tampering. Secondly, when I opened it, I immediately saw black fuzz indicating that it was previously put inside the storage bag it comes with by a previous customer. Then when looking closer, I saw a bunch of oily smudges probably from when the barrels and wands were held. I’m so sad and disappointed.Elle

This did not work at all on my thick, naturally wavy chin length hair. Since I have naturally curly hair I just wanted to put a couple extra ‘controlled’ beachy waves – this was NOT the curler to do it. Also, absolutely no instructions included on how to use it. I was able to find some info online but don’t understand T3 not providing. Returned it – not for me. Great concept with the interchangeable barrels but not if it doesn’t work.Janthoree

If I could give this zero stars, I would. I have had this since like 2018? And have used it maybe 3 times Bc it’s sucks. First of all, what a pain having to use both hands to hold your hair throughout the entire process. Secondly smoke comes from my hair the second it touches that iron and I have thick long-long hair. I can’t imagine it’s doing anything positive for your hair ladies. Also, the curls don’t hold and it’s just a mess. Changing out the barrels is impossible to get off and on. If they had a clamp that connected to do more traditional curls I would give this a higher rating, but for $335 it’s sucks.jourdan.l

I have dark brown hair and dye it a golden brown every 4 weeks, mainly due to greys. After noticing colour build up and the greys not holding the colour, I decided to go for highlights. I chose this because of the reviews and I pleased I did. The cap could be better. I had help from my partner who said that the layer of plastic underneath the cap made it difficult to pull the hair through. The instructions are easy to follow. All the tools are included, although I might purchase a better highlighting cap for next time. I left the product on for 90 minutes and I got multi-tonal blonde highlights. No orange or brassiness. My hair is a little dry afterwards but it is bleached so I use a conditioning treatment. I’m really pleased with the results. My partner loves it and friends cannot believe I did this at home19tinab81

I bought this today just to touch up some dark patches of hair that my hairdresser missed when highlighting and that were really noticeable when I tied my hair back. Simple instructions, all the equipment you need, 30 mins and the pieces of hair I coated had gone from dark brown to a lovely light blonde. The cap you get is amazing quality and I’ve carefully cleaned everything so I can use again in future as you can buy their peroxide and colour separately! No ginger or weird colours. It really is fool proof. I was nervous to use despite the brilliant reviews but you can always just do a small underneath part to try first. You won’t regret it.LaurenC

Bought this kit after reading the good reviews. My partner did it for me, I personally think you need someone to do it for you to make sure you have even coverage, my hair is really fine and mousy brown, the dye was on for 15/20 mins. Excellent result really happy with it, I have had loads of compliments. Definitely buying it again. I did see it cheaper else where, but £6 is nothing compared to salon prices. As time has gone on the ends of my hair are a little dry, but dye does that an a little conditioner helps with that problem. All in all a great product.Helen B

Total waste of time and money!!! Two hours and 50.00 for nothing!! The lighting mix is not easy to get out of a squeeze bootle it’s way to think. Which makes it hard to put on with the wishbone plastic useless tool!! A bowl and brush would have been better. A looser fitting cap wouldn’t have made the bleach clump in spots! Terrible product with absolutely no results. MR haicolor is different I like it. This was not worthy of a star at all. Féria for dark hair lifts and is a lot quicker with real results!!KD Albarez

Purchased this kit online in an effort to save a trip to a salon. The kit I got was cool vanilla. ❣️Pros 🔅This kit is really customer focused. They included 3 different sets of gloves, most other kits give you 1. I really appreciated this. They really pulled out the stops to make sure you have everything you could need 💕 They give you a lot of product to highlight and tone. ⛔️Con’s 🆘 I followed the instructions on how to section and “highlight” the hair for about 2 minutes. I noticed the “diagonal” pieces I was pulling down were too thin for the wishbone brush. I kind of did my own thing from there so we will see. ⭕️this product did not spread well at all and was very clumpy. The highlighting product also kept coming out of the bottle after I stopped squeezing. Will post before and afterstephanie.h

Use this balayage at home care in the middle of the pandemic but I did not want to go to that salon. It was easy to apply with the instructions. I am not at all savvy and dying hair. Usually I just leave my hair natural and didn’t touch it for years but I felt like I needed a change. It was basically just bleach and a toner. They had a weird contraption that would help you apply the bleach in a way that would create the balayage effect. There was one part of my head that came out blotchy. Other than that it came out pretty decent and I even had people remark about how good it looked for being an at home treatment. I have considered doing it again but maybe I will just tone it they also sell toner.veronica .l

Before Miss Jessie’s I used deva curl but when the lawsuit came out I didn’t know what to do for moisturizing my hair. My natural hair has an uneven curl patterns of 3a/b/c so it’s always been difficult to find a product that works w/my entire head. For reference MY curls are very malleable and cannot handle the thick consistencies of shea moisture. I’ve found this product as the perfect moisturizing curl cream I’ve tried since deva curl in which I’ve been able to layer the amount of product needed to address the different sections and patterns of my hair. If you are in between wavy and kinky/could hair and cannot handle thicker products this is DEFINITELY worth a try! I have straightened my hair since I was 11. So for like 24 years. My daughter has curly hair and I have always taken care of her curls. So I decided to start wearing my hair natural again but I have so much damage from straightening it for so long. I’ve been trying to find the right product to combat the frizz and help me get my curl pattern back. And WOW this product worked a miracle on my hair! The picture attached was me using the product and just scrunching my hair. Then drying my hair with a diffuser attachment on my hair dryer. I ordered a denman brush so I can try to style my hair like in the video attached to this listing. So I’m excited to see if it will make a difference in making my curls more defined. But overall I’m so happy with this product. I went to bed without a bonnet on to see how my hair would do and it was still soft with minimal frizz in the morning vs other products I’ve used where my hair is dry and knotted in the morning. My friend had told me about this product for years. I had little hope and thought it only worked for her gorgeous Hispanic curls because she just had great hair. I typically have wavy hair with random curls and sometimes straight ish hair with lots of frizz. My hair is thick and heavy. I put some of this product on after my evening shower and then plopped straight in bed (not suggested at all) and yet, somehow this product STILL managed to work and I woke up with cute, managed waves with very little frizz and lots of bounce/volume! There’s a lot of bad reviews on this product, but I decided to try it anyway. At first when putting the blue hair wax on, for some reason it appeared green. I don’t know if it’s because my hair was damp (on the jar it says apply to damp or dry hair but not completely wet), but as my hair dried the blue came out more and I actually really liked the look! It does get on you even after drying. I tested throughout the day touching my hair and even when dry, if I pressed against my hair hard enough or scratched my head it got on my fingers. But honestly it wasn’t much and nothing I couldn’t easily wipe off. I prefer As I Am compared to the other brand target offers, named Curls Unleashed. I bought one of theirs too because the As I Am was out of purple in my target, but the problem with that one is it leaves your hair SUPER hard and crunchy. You have to apply a certain amount to get that color you want to be seen and it felt like I dipped my head in a bunch of mousse or hair gel. On top of that it made my head super itchy. Was not a good feel, even though the color came out great. As I Am’s hair wax actually left my hair soft, so I think I’ll stick to theirs. I feel this isn’t a product for people to confuse with hair dye. Don’t leave it in for more than a day. It’s more of a wear outside for the day, wash out after kind of deal. Think of it like hair color spray but actually way better for the hair when it comes to application. I’ll continue buying. I wanted an option for myself where I no longer damage my hair due to constant dying. This was it.WonderLexi

While I did not get this exact shade, the one that I got (Copper) really impressed me. THE APPLICATION: -Pro: If you apply it on damp hair (not wet), it’s not messy. Think of it as your butter after you’ve washed your hair. If it transfer to your clothes, easy to wash off —Con: If you’re getting ready to go somewhere and you’re undoing your braids, while putting clothes on or during take down it transfers to your hands and clothes. THE REULT: -Pro: it looks so real, I convinced a few people that it was a permanent dye. The pigmentation was accurate. I did not need to bleach my dark brown hair. A little went a long way. – Con: it left my hair feeling dry and could not moisturize without engaging in a messy process. THE MAINTENANCE: —Pro: It did not transfer or flake (at least not as much as I was expecting it to, being a temporary dye and all). Easy to wash off —Con: After day 1, my hair felt stiff, curl patterns were gone, and could not style my hair as I normally would. Washed it off after 2 days.vanessa.s

I love As I Am & use almost all of their products . From curling jelly’s , to sprays , oils and of course the color cream wax . I was in love when i found this wax . I originally only tried the red , but when i found out they had more colors i decided to explore ! I purchased blue , green , purple , gold & more red . I have very blonde hair and when trying the red it washed out with no issues so i wasn’t nervous to try the other colors . It took me a while to actually get around to trying the other colors because i loved the red so much lol but now i sorta wish i didn’t explore . I had a few off days and was going out of town for a festival so i wanted to switch things up so started with the blue and the color was amazing so i decided to do half blue & half green . It was an amazing color duo and it was vibrant for the few days that i had it on for but then…. After a few days of wear ( like normal ) i was scheduled back to work so i went to wash the colors out of my bright blonde hair and to my surprise after getting out of the shower and passing the closest mirror my hair was still half green and half blue . IT HAD STAINED PERMANENTLY . It had faded a good bit from its bright tone but it had stained nonetheless. I obviously freaked out and rushed back to try and scrub it out-with multiple rounds of shampooing and no success . When doing my research beforehand i saw plenty of blondes using the product so i didn’t think there would be an issue . I’m not sure if this product is not made for blondes or if it was to much for my hair but i ended up having to dye my hair black only because i couldn’t get it re bleached at the time . I’m not sure how the red was perfectly okay but the green and blue weren’t ? Not sure if the formulas are exactly the same or what ? The waxes are amazing but beware the risk of keeping the color incase it doesn’t wash out . ( Ps . I reached out to customer service to ask if there was anything i could use to get it out if it stains and got no reply so i assume there isnt ) be safe out there guys !Curtis D.
