My favorite this about this gel is how soft it makes my hair. It's very hydrating and conditioning to the hair, every time I use this my curls are very soft and bouncy. I have mixed it with several other leave in conditioners and creams, both from the same brand and from other brands, and I have found it mixes well with a few different products. It doesn't mix with everything, test it in your hands first, but I found a few good combos with this gel. It also gives my hair good shine, I really loved that. My wash n go's always lasted a few days with this gel. I wish it had a little more hold, I'd say this is like medium hold. It didn't give a strong cast, which may or may not be a good thing depending on your preference. Even without strong hold, it's still a great and dependable gel. I bought this gel to style my curly hair with. I normally use the curly jelly by Umberto Giannini (which is my AMAZING also from Boots) but I wanted to try this out as I know a lot of American curly girls use this, and it's great that boots are stocking more US brands. Overall, I'd say this is an average gel. Not too expensive, and you get a large tub for the price and the ingredients are ok. CG friendly. It feels a bit sticky at first but that goes away quickly and it doesn't make the hair crunchy or dry. There are no flakey bits either, which is a problem I've encountered in the past. My biggest issue with this product is that it doesn't really give my curls enough definition. I ended up with soft waves rather than nicely defined curls. I applied the product to soaking wet hair, which is what I always do, and then scrunched and let my hair air dry for about 3 hours. I noticed that my hair dried very quickly and that the curls were very soft and voluminous but were lacking in their normal definition. This gel doesn't seem to provide enough of a 'cast' and therefore my curls seemed a bit lacking as a result. If you're looking for soft curls then this will probably be perfect for you but if you need a little more definition then this isn't the gel for you. It's not the worse gel I've ever used but it wasn't great either. I think I'll stick to my Umberto Giannini curl jelly instead. *Just wanted to add that on my 2nd day hair, my curls have pretty much all fallen out and now resemble very loose waves, almost straight! I thought this purchase was very good value for money. The product gave my hair lots of shine whereas previously it lacked lustre. I wanted it to define, loosen and hold my curls and it is the most effective product that I have used for this (believe me I have tried so many). It is best applied when the hair is wet e.g. after washing. I was even able to freshen up the curls between washes by just wetting the hair, plaiting and leaving it in the plaits over night. Just wetting the hair seemed to activate the gel that I had initially applied after washing. You need to gauge how much gel to use by experimenting. i love layering this gel on top of innersense i create hold, which is my second topper gel. this ouidad gel pretty much seals and sets my style. the texture is slimy not sticky and creates amazing slip. it has anti humidity ingredients so i would say it does it great job keeping freeze at bay. unless you’re super active (like me lol) then expect your curls to not last too long. overall i would recommend this product! for reference i have 4b tight curls, coarser textures around the nape of my hair.curlyblackgirl
I have tried so many gels from lower price points to high end. I have 2C-3B curls, low porosity and regular porosity strands, shoulder length, and curly bangs. Lots of layers in my hair with the shortest being 2” on top. I particularly love this gel because of its runny consistency, which makes it super easy to glaze and rake through the hair. On top of average 80%+ humidity in summer, I work a job that often causes me to sweat. This gel holds up. I can get away with washing my hair once a week. When I need a refresh, I either simply add water which reactivates the gel or, around mid-week, dampen hair and add more gel. The cast created is buildable – less gel = softer curls with little cast, more gel = stronger cast. I prefer a stronger cast with this product, so I use a dollar coin sized amount THREE times on each side of my hair, working in sections. I say this because some people think this gel doesn’t make a cast, but maybe they aren’t using enough product. It is an expensive gel, but worth every penny for me.cassandra.m
I heard hundreds of recommendations for this gel when I started embracing my natural 2B-3A medium porosity hair. I bought it without question, and even ordered a second bottle (the huge one, too) after the first ran out. I thought the dryness/straw texture my hair got after application was just par for the course with gels since it was my first time ever touching gel. As I learned more about humectants and other ingredients in hair products, I realized that the high glycerin content in this gel is the culprit behind my frizzy locks. Doesn't matter how much or how little gel I put in, my hair frizzes and knots as soon as it's 50% dry and it gets exponentially worse if I apply any while refreshing. For anyone reading: if you live somewhere that's very dry or very humid, avoid humectants like glycerin in the first few ingredients (or at all). Humectants draw moisture from their surroundings, but if the air is dry as bone (like it is where I live), it's going to pull that moisture from your hair (and skin if it's in skin care products) and make it extremely dry. If the air is extremely humid, your hair will feel squishy and icky (and skin will feel oily) if you use products with glycerin in them. All that being said, this is a great gel. It's liquid so it coats hair easily and I never had any problems with it flaking. Its glycerin content is just not right for my environment. If you live in a moderately humid place, this will probably be a fantastic gel for you!Amber

This is the new formula that should have the blue top. And they are charging as if it’s the old formula which is hard fine. So I just paid way more- thinking I was getting the old version and it’s really the new version that’s available for cheap everywhere! I’ve used a few that don’t really last that long and I’ve got to admit my hair needs gel like this to be tamed; plus it smells great. It smells to me like 🍏 green apple and not like glue Lol. This gel is great for wash n gos, updos, and laying edges. My wash n gos come out super defined and I get big hair as my style gets old. Then I’ll use this gel to slick up my hair into a puff/bun. I’ve tried many edge controls and none of them last past 2 hours then my edges would start to curl up. But with this gel, I apply it and lay my edges, tie a satin scarf around them, set for 10 minutes, and I’m good to go for the whole day. I really enjoy this gel! It may say strong hold but it doesn’t leave your hair feeling crunchy. I use this on my curly haired son with no problems at all. This gives him the perfect amount of hold for his curls but doesnt leave a crunchy or sticky feel. In fact once his hair dries you cant even tell that he has any hair product in. I like the smell of this styling gel. It has a light fragrance to it that is not overpowering. I like to use this product when I pull my hair back. I put this on the edges to hold the hair in place. It can hold the grey hair in place as well. Grey hair can sometimes be unruly even when using gel it wants to do it's own thing. I found that it would keep the hair in place after applying it. I like that it is not a heavy gel. My hair is on the thinner side and works well with my grade of hair. Its a really good gel and works well on my curly 3a hair. Its one of the few gels that mixes with the Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Repair Cream which is why I purchased it. I tested it out with my other leave in conditioners and curling creams and it mixed with every single one which is very impressive, Ive never had a gel worked with all my creams before. My favorite this about this gel is how soft it makes my hair. It's very hydrating and conditioning to the hair, every time I use this my curls are very soft and bouncy. I have mixed it with several other leave in conditioners and creams, both from the same brand and from other brands, and I have found it mixes well with a few different products. It doesn't mix with everything, test it in your hands first, but I found a few good combos with this gel. It also gives my hair good shine, I really loved that. My wash n go's always lasted a few days with this gel. I wish it had a little more hold, I'd say this is like medium hold. It didn't give a strong cast, which may or may not be a good thing depending on your preference. Even without strong hold, it's still a great and dependable gel. I found this on sale at Ulta for 3 for $25… It's the PERFECT finishing product for my thick, straight hair. I've tried a TON of styling creams, lotions, sprays, and pomades over the years, but they all made my hair look flat, greasy, stiff, or didn't have enough hold to keep baby hairs from sticking up. This helps give hair a little 2nd day texture without making it look dirty, doesn't weigh hair down at ALL, keeps flyaways and baby hairs at bay, and keeps split ends from looking… split! I received this as a sample from Ulta with another purchase I had made. I have thin, fine hair and I use this product either with a curling iron or curlers . It says it has #3 hold and it does. I cannot tell you how very pleased I am. I have actually gone two days without styling my hair and it still looks good. This is unheard of for me. I have read endless product reviews, watched countless You Tube Videos regarding care and products for my hair. I use a leave in conditioner applied in the shower to soaking wet hair. I then use a curl primer. I scrunch these products into hair and micro plop to remove excess water. I then apply curl keeper just like gel, using praying hands method to coat each curl. I add more to the crown and smooth over waves. I then plop for 10-30 minutes depending on if I’m air drying or diffusing.
I actually prefer to air dry and this product allows that, though it takes hours to dry. Can form a slight cast which I actually love. Once fully dry any crunch is easily scrunched out. I NEVER have shine in my hair due to the coarse texture but with this my curls are defined and shiny. Best part is that even in high humidity this holds perfectly.
I cannot speak to 2nd or 3rd day hair as I haven’t been able to test this part yet.

I've been searching for years for a gel that keeps my middle aged head of hair looking full without that cheap shiny look. It's SO CHEAP I don't know if you could ever convince me that some expensive bottle of gel is going to do much better than this stuff, so I don't waste my money. Here's my routine. -Wash condition (make sure shampoo is sulfate free!) -Use tshirt to absorb excess water -Apply serum or argan oil to ends -Apply generous amount of gel eeeverywhere -Blow dry with DIFFUSER -Shake out curls to get rid of the "crunchy" feel And you're good to go for a couple days!kate.s
I've used this brand of styling gel for years. The newer products with higher numbers, don't seem to have better holding power than those with lower numbers. Perhaps they have changed the formula. #9 is rarely stocked in stores anymore. It works best on my fine hair which blows in the wind if I don't use it. You rub it into your hair after you shampoo while your hair is still wet. When your hair dries, the hair stays where you combed it until you run a comb or brush through it to take the stiffness out. It will last for about 2 days. It is water soluble and non-greasy. And it is also inexpensive. One bottle will last me more than a month. The squeezable bottle allows you to use every bit of it. My younger sister recommended this to me because her edges are always LAID and look so good and she told me to try this product. I tried so many different things on my daughter's hair, and it's always sticky and doesn't work that well. This stuff is amazing. BOMB!!!! I've been on the search for an edge gel that can lay my 3C/4A edges down for more than a couple of minutes. This is literally the ONLY edge gel I've ever used where my edges were laid ALL day long without feeling too hard or dry to the point you can tell it will break-off your edges with continued use. I did my usual routine of styling my edges…than I tied a scarf over them while they were drying and waited like 10 minutes before untying the scarf. Of course…when you first use an edge gel it looks good until like an hour later. Not with this product!!! When Ebin says this is a 24 Hour Edge Tamer…they mean it. I used this product in the morning…it's almost 8pm and my edges are still laid. Plus this product doesn't leave any gross white residue…which is so disrespectful, how are you going to have bomb edges with a white cast??? Not possible. This is the product that I have been looking for for the longest time! If you have curly hair, this is a must have. Here is how you use it, after detangling your hair, and a generous amount to your hair. If you add too much your hair won’t look super curly. After that just bunch your hair together to make it look curly. My hair looks so gorgeous when using this product. My family uses it as well. Maybe I came in with too high of hopes. Orrr maybe I just used to much. Either way, it left my hair greasy looking, weighed down, and it was obvious something was in my hair. Felt weird to touch my own hair. I tried using a tiny amount and that didn't help either. I think it just doesn't get along with my personal hair bevause I know it works for a few friends!tanya.b
After a year of locs- I combed them out. Usually I see a lot of product build up when I take out my locs, however after exclusively using this for a year, there wasn't much at all. I have also used this for a two-strand twist and it worked well. Was not heavy and oily and my hair was very flexible and pliable.
