Best Home Golf Launch Monitor (2023 Update)

Hit about 1000 balls through the Rapsodo, probably 60% net mode and 40% outdoor. Overall, I really do love it, it’s probably my most loved piece of training equipment at this point and always stays in my golf bag. Rapsodo has done a really good combo of both hardware and software, IMO. Pros: -Net mode is really accurate, compared 1:1 with super expensive simulators and it’s usually within 4-5 yards or less if the shot is relatively straight, without too much spin left or right. Apex and launch direction also is spot on. -Outdoor mode is even more accurate, really just tracks your shot well there, no questions asked. -Instant replay of your shots is huge. It’s not the best angle, and there’s challenges with the front camera (more on that), but it’s usually enough to catch my typical faults. It’s like super practice. I love it. -Overall build quality is great, small enough to fit in your bag and take anywhere, sets up in seconds. The integration of your phone onto the physical device is really awesome, compared to other LMs. I hate having to setup a tripod if I also want video of my swing. This is quick and discreet, you can use it out on the course or range and not look like a tool, or take forever fumbling with a tripod and going back/forth to review shots. -The app is really awesome, the insights it generates are great, and having the ability to save 10k swings to the cloud with slo-mo replay is huge! You can sort through all of your data, then look back on every swing you took ever to see what you did right (or wrong) that day or session…very valuable. The distance gapping has also began to take strokes off my game, particularly with approach shots. -The company seems to be really committed to constantly improving/adding features on the software end, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see spin and maybe even simulator play in the near future. So it’s not like you buy it, then 6 months later it’s outdated and to get x feature you gotta buy the new device. Cons: -THIS IS THE BIGGEST ONE: It doesn’t measure spin, so take shot direction with a grain of salt on net mode. So for slices or hooks, if yours launch relatively straight and then curve, the MLM can’t really pick that up. I know my bad slices can still launch 1-2 degrees to the right, fly pretty straight and then wind up landing 50 yards to the right of my target…the MLM would say the shot is “straight”, but it definitely wasn’t. You’ll eventually learn what launch directions are good or bad for you though, so you can better predict shots hit into a net. My “good” shots usually launch either negative (to the left) or less than 1 degree to the right. Definitely gotta find what your sweet spot is, through outdoor tracking or using other simulators that track more metrics. -Camera angle is tough sometimes, if you don’t have a ton of space behind you. Using the recommended 6ft behind indoors, and even 8ft behind outdoors usually doesn’t pick up your whole body, especially with longer clubs. Hard to diagnose your swing really from that footage, but you can still pick up on some faults, so it’s not horrible. -The app is great, but still a little buggy. It freezes on occasion and I need to reset it sometimes to start working. Not a huge deal though, and to be expected with really anything that depends on your phone to work. It’s not a standalone LM, your phone is doing a lot of the work, so obviously your phone’s performance will affect the MLM’s performance. -I have never gotten club recognition to work, ever. Idk if it’s just how my clubs are printed or what, but I do need to manually switch my clubs in the app. -$99/yr for premium kinda sucks, considering you aren’t getting a ton extra…BUT they put apex in there, so you pretty much have to buy it. The cloud storage/slo-mo etc is nice, but I wouldn’t care about either if apex was left out of it. Coaching seems nice in theory, but idk how a coach could effectively improve your swing virtually with just the one angle and data the MLM gives them. I have hope that more useful features will be coming though to premium. All in all, solid LM and training tool. The Garmin approach may have it beat with added simulator play though, and the app that pairs with it is pretty much the same thing now (also $99/yr but that comes with simulator course). I might switch over eventually, provided Rapsodo doesn’t add more features…but for now, I still love it.jm3686

I have used extensively on the driving range. It even finds my range and displays a satellite view with shot overlay/dispersion. I found this to be accurate. I think most don't understand that it display "carry" distance not overall distance. I dialed in my irons using this information and not only gained confidence on approach shots, but layup shots as well. I have not tried net mode yet, but hope to soon. Pros: accurate carry distance, shot tracking, and shot dispersion, price as I bought on sale at $350. Cons: If the sun is shining on the equipment, it gets hot and will stop working. I had to use my golf bag to provide shade, but depending upon sun angle it impacted the unit operationBrownee

Very pleased with the relevant and useful functionality of this device; on the driving range and in the practice net. You do need an iPhone or iPad coupled to this monitor, which is possibly an additional expense but very worthwhile. Being able to link the Launch Monitor to the iPhone or iPad, you are provided with instant and stored 'from behind' swing analysis opportunity, with the shot metrics from that swing. The 'above' and 'from the side' views of all shots from a practice session is a most helpful output. I have been able to identify and productively work on a couple of key swing improvements from the first sessions.Greg D.

This is a very useful tool for me. Of course your mileage may vary. As an average golfer who doesn't have access to professional level equipment things like club head speed and distance were always very directional guesses for me. The launch monitor feature has allowed me to better understand, with more certainty, the more technical aspects of my swing which adds confidence on the course. On to the GPS. I do not belong to a club and my local munis/public's are usually packed so I play whatever and wherever I can. This means I'm usually playing a course for the first of second time with no context on where anything really is. The GPS is great at being able to help me navigate the various courses. I haven't used the other features yet of the device but have heard they can be a bit gimicky. Great product. I watched all the reviews and was amazed how accurate this is compared to the $40k machines. It’s typically within 2yrds carry on every shot. It is a bit off on spin rates as this is an estimate but not something that bothers me. I wanted it for Gap sessions so I know how far I hit each club on the course which it’s perfect for. I have since built a full gold simulator in my garage and played a few rounds of golf and it’s fantastic. I can’t wait till my projector gets delivered to finish the set up. Started playing golf more than 20 years ago quite a bit. Then, I haven't hit a golf ball in 18 years or so. It was weird playing again today. Technology certainly has changed since then! Just having the distance on your wrist makes it so much easier to decide on what to do! The layup markers and distances are also a boon! This is the first time I have focused on increasing my swing speed. Without a measuring device, it would be difficult to see progress, particularly for myself who works at it mostly by hitting into a net. The PRGR was highly recommended to me, being it was very accurate, and at a good price. I have not used it at a range or golf course yet. My sense of its accuracy comes from the fact that my baseline PRGR carry distance measurements were very consistent with what I know to be the distance I hit my drives (210-220 yards). I do wonder about the ball speed measurements at times as my ability to get smash factor at 1.4 or greater is very infrequent even when trying various changes to my swing. Sometimes there is no ball speed recorded and sometimes I'd get a ball speed recording on a practice swing. I suspect these are probably just occasional spurious measurement anomalies but it sows some seeds of doubt. Being honest, I'll just admit to not being a very good golfer. The photo records my best strike. Anyway, objective measurements makes practice more fun and effective, and I plan to stick with it.Gary L.

I rate this device between a "like and a love", i.e, 4.5 stars. I looked at these types of devices for a long time, but they were all very expensive. The PRGR fit the budget and gave me the stats I was interested in, basically club head speed, ball speed, and distance (both carry and total). Since I hit a lot of Birdie Balls in the yard when I can't get to the range, I was a little disappointed that it couldn't track these plastic rings, but it did indicate that in the instructions. It, however, provides me with the ability to track my club head speed and the results are fairly accurate, based on a club fitting I had recently. At the range, I also found this stat, and the other stats, to be pretty much on target. I thought I was hitting the ball a lot further than I was, but the device proved, once again, to be pretty accurate. I had another golf buddy try the device (one who hits the balls further and with more power) and the distance that we visualized and what the device registered was, again, in the ballpark. I was a little disappointed that there is no facility to transfer the stats to my computer, but that feature might add a lot of expense to this device. Overall, I am very happy with the device and would recommend it to those looking to track the stats I was interested in. This was by far the cheapest launch monitor I could find. So in a ways, I'm getting what I paid for. It has received some good reviews on youtube, so it could be possible I'm doing something wrong or I received a defective unit? What I like: – Cheap! – Works well with mid-long irons – Haven't tried it yet, but can also be used to measure baseball pitching speed. What I don't like: – Appears to struggle to pick up club head speed only. They claim to be able to measure club head speed only, if not hitting a ball. Doesn't work well for me. Registers speeds much lower, so I don't trust the reading. – Rarely works with any high lofted clubs (PW & up). One of the big reasons I bought this was to help hone in my yardages under 100. For this purpose, does not work at all for me. – Very sensitive to how the device is aligned to the ball and swing path. Took me a while to find the perfect configuration, to ensure I got consistent & correct results.Eric C.

Nachdem ich letztes Jahr schon andere Monitore getestet habe und wir derzeit drei verschiedene Modelle in der Herrenmannschaft besitzen und gegenseitig testen, muss ich sagen, dass der ESB1 für seine Kosten einen super Job macht. Lediglich als "Schnellschwinger" (100 bis 105 kmh) hat das Gerät Probleme und zeigt deutlich höhere Carry-Werte an. Auch der Spin scheint mir etwas zu hoch. Aber nochmal: für den Preis SUPERDaniel

Been waitin a longgggg time for this. Some issues picking up drives however for the most part this unit is awesome! Very quick set up for on course shots that appear to accurately reflect swing data however distance accuracy appears to consistently be shorter than actual distance. This metric is however only an estimate I believe so take that with a grain of salt. Package came in super quick and although the packaging was a little beat up the unit itself comes packed in its hardshell case so It was all good. Can confirm this will work indoors with a HARD foam ball. Something like an almost golfball or 18g hard foam training ball from a local sporting goods store… I went with the 18g ball in this case, almost golf balls are a little too pricey in my opinion for what they offer. R10 is the perfect unit for your average golfer. 10/10 would recommend. Will upload screen recording of features when I get to some decent internet.Aaron F.

I got this to use at home, hitting into a net. After getting everything tweaked and measured to the requirements, doing updates and even trying different altitudes, temps, etc, the distances are still hitting about 20-30 yards shorter than what I see using Arccos or the PRGR launch monitor. But I would say, ball flight is pretty accurate. It may work better on a range without a net, idk. Also after 14-30 day free trials you have to pay extra for all the sims; E Connect, Awesome Golf and The Golf Club, that are from $200 per year ($12 per month extra for the awesome golf for the app if you use that sim) or more! The Home Tee Hero virtual rounds are fun to play though, using the Garmin app, which is $10 per month after a 30 day trial. But still comes up short in yardage hitting into my net. What would be cool is if you could stick the monitor in your pocket and track your shots with gps on your phone, like you can the Garmin g80.Robert

As an outdoor launch monitor, it seems to do ok on the range, but the user interface is still sub-par. Unless I'm missing something (the documentation is not all that great), there's no way to filter, analyze, or export your data to an external spreadsheet. Driving Range sessions also don't show in the web-based browser preventing a larger and/or tabular view on your PC. Instead, each shot must be opened, scrolled, and looked at individually on the phone interface. There's also no way to group shots, have different golfers on the range, etc. They did add the ability to select which three fields show on the main screen, but beyond that there's not much in terms of customization that I can find. At first I kind of expected this lack of functionality from a newly released MVP ('minimal viable product' in software development terms) but now it's been almost a year with little new functionality. I have a Garmin Fenix watch that I use for golf and there's been a number of bugs there that have not been fixed there either. Overall disappointing.Charles N.

I have had a great experience with the Flightscope MEVO! My friends and my daughter all love it! Super easy to use and the numbers look to be pretty darn close to accurate! I pulled the flags in our driving range and they appear to be dead on accurate! I use it also in a net and the numbers reflect when I don't hit it pure. The app on my phone was what I thought I'd like the least but it is so cool to go back and look at sessions and different things I'm trying to make more speed or spin etc… Bottom line, I haven't tried all the launch monitors in this price range but I did a lot of research before and it seems to be the best deal! I found the mevo to be about 70 percent accurate with SW through 9 iron. About 90 percent with mid irons. Driver and 3 wood seem to be the most accurate. The accuracy with irons was disappointing to me. After about 4 sessions the unit stopped connecting with my phone. Spent an hour with customer service and could not get unit to work. Two days later I decided to try it again and it worked. Have not figured out why it didn't work or why it started working. My handicap is 3.0 and in younger days was +2 so I know what I'm talking about. For the price I guess I will give it 3 stars.Jack Harwell

Great product for working on your golf swing and personal driving range in your backyard. The video and slo mo replay with golf swing and ball carry/spin/height provides instant feedback that is extremely valuable in diagnosing issues creating golf dAta on your clubs. Used at driving range and it is perfect for collecting all the data ya need to improve your game which is combined with visually seeing where your golf balls are going. I dont know a whole lot about launch monitors, but I did research for a while before I settled on this one. It seems to work great. When I played my first round, I was like what?!? My hits were not going as far as I thought they should. Then I realized it was calculating more than just my swing. Wind, height, etc was all calculated in, so it is a little more realistic. Heres the catch you should think about prior to purchase. The monitor requires a yearly subscription. Look it up first prior to buying. Also, the iPad and Mac is not compatible with all uses. If you want certain programs like E6 or golf2019, you will need a computer. I started out thinking I could create a super cheap but precise sim with the skytrak, and I came to the realization that it is not as cheap as I had hoped. In conclusion, if you want accuracy and dont mind paying out of pocket, this is perfect. If you want cheap and dont care too much about precision, go with optishot. Optishot is super cheap to build sim. Personally, I want precision and to better my game. If you are the same, go with this. Just be ready to pay. (Unless you only want the range. That comes free) The extra out of pocket is why I gave this a 4 star. I wish it came with a few courses. If it did, and it was also more compatiblewith Mac, it would have gotten a 5.bank-bobb

The SkyTrak hardware seems to work well and I like the way it can work in smaller spaces relative the radar-based monitors. My main complaint is with the WGT (golf course simulator software) integration. I've had to uninstall/reinstall the app and switching between SkyTrak app and WGT is janky (open SkyTrak app in network mode, hard close, open WGT). WGT can get stuck in some zombie state and I needed to re-install to get it working again. Finally, the SkyTrack login credentials don't seem to work on WGT – need another user name. It would be great if WGT was integrated seamlessly into the SkyTrak app itself. Hopefully this will get sorted out in future releases.James S.

The unit is very solid, I've had it over a year. My only reason for 4 star is I was experiencing an issue registering zero shots to which I could not find a resolution with Skytrak. I was unable to find any manuals, forums, Youtube's and had to call Skytrak. The long and the short of it is I had dust on my camera, not very much mind you. But if your unit unexpectantly stops registering shots, wipe off the camera lens. This could be common sense for most people but due to the few hours of aggravation with not being to find any information on this I thought I would post.Zach

Once again Garmin provide a high-quality training aid. It only takes a few minutes to attach the sensors to your clubs, and pair them to your Garmin device (I use one of the watches). Then every-shot is tracked, with only rare “missed” shots. These are easy to edit in during, or after the round. It greatly increases the amount of stats, and feedback within the Garmin Golf app. If you are already within the Garmin Universe these are the perfect choice for shot tracking, and deeper analysis of your game. Of the 14 brand new sensors, only 6 are still working after 2 rounds of golf. Apparently this is common and battery life for the sensors is definitely not 4 years as advertised. I will replace all batteries and see how it goes. The two stars are for potential. When it works, it is very useful. However having to manually fiddle around trying to pair watch and clubs is annoying and distracting mid-round. I will return this product if no improvement.Stephen W.

Very difficult editing golf devices, you can only do it when you are at a course In the end I kept swapping sensors as you cannot reallocate them even after dropping the golf app and replacing all batteries It really should not be this difficult I will continue to try to align the old club sensor but there is no way you can start from scratch I did buy 3 new sensors to replace 1 lost one and spent $64 on new batteries, one would hope resetting sensors would be easier What happens when I get new clubs? I wanted to wait a while after purchasing this unit to post a review, I wanted to be able to provide good feedback. Let me start by saying I absolutely love the Mevo+, it is everything I was looking for in a launch monitor and simulator. At about a $2,000 price point I think it is more than worth the cost. In doing as much research as I could I had it narrowed down between the Mevo+ and Skytrak. When making the decision the Mevo+ was a much better option for me. I don’t have any space restrictions, and for those that have a smaller space the Mevo+ may not be ideal. The deciding factors for me were that it is ready to go right out of the box. No software to buy or any memberships required, although you can certainly upgrade the software if you’d like. It has all the data parameters I was looking for and is very accurate, if you hit a bad shot it is reflected accurately on the screen. In watching YouTube videos comparing the Mevo+ to much more expensive models like the Tracman and GC quad the numbers are very consistent. The yardage for carry distance and total distance seemed to be off by a few yards, but nothing that would deter me. After having the unit for about a month and using it regularly I can’t be any happier and would certainly recommend this unit to anyone.Giuseppe V.

I bought the MEVO + for indoor use this winter. (did not use it outside) I really wanted to test my new irons, compare to old ones and use for practice. I excitedly set up my bay exactly as they recommend and used the metal dots on my usual ProVs. I could not get numbers even close to what I know them to be (even with old irons). Spin rates way lower, distances 10-15 yards less than what I know they are (I know my old irons numbers cold as I used them for the past 6 years). I returned the unit after giving it 4-5 tries over 2 weeks time – packaging it with Return Authorization number and sending it directly to Flightscope exactly as they instructed . They received it on Jan 6, 2022. I am still awaiting a refund as of today (2/5/22) despite several emails back and forth with Rain or Shine. Maybe COVID has affected their workforce but I feel that one full month is plenty of time to process a refund. Anyway, if you want accurate numbers indoors, I would think twice before ordering this unit and customer service leaves something to be desired (at least at Flightscope).Robert A.

So I just plated my first round on the Mevo plus and I have got to say it is pretty excellent, but let me start with Top Shelf Golf. Top Shelf Golf has been ahead of me on everything. Service has been excellent, and price was exactly what it should have been. Shout out to Erik. I would not hesitate to do business with them again. Now the Mevo + this thing is amazing, I have 16ft 4 inches from screen to opposite wall, so it is tight. It is very enlightening to see the difference in what I play as far as carry distance, and what I actually carry, at first I thought the mevo was just reading short but found this not to be the case most of the time. With a 1.12 smash your going to be short. So slowing down and making contact makes me know this thing is pretty spot on, and well worth the price. It reads my pulls and slices as well as good shots with amazing accuracy. It is super easy to set up and use. It has read every shot and has shown me what I need to work on. Don't hesitate if you want to get better, there is a reason the pros are out there with a Launch Monitor on the range pre game. Yep I am jazzed with the Mevo + and Top Shelf Golf. I really have nothing negative to say about it. Set up is easy enough and the unit seems to be quite accurate. I have noticed shots out toward the toe of the club are given more credit than they deserve, but as golfers I also think we can recognize bad shots even if our electronics tell us otherwise! LOL. This product is amazing! Use it on the range and it gives consistent numbers on carry and swing speed. I just got fit for a set of irons and using it on the range helps to track my swing. The yardage is accurate as I checked it with my range finder and its spit on. This tool is great for checking your natural swing with a swing change that I’m incorporating, very accurate feedback as to how my swing feels, great investment.Daryl W.

I bought this about a year ago online and I’ve never gotten consistent data. First off the swing speed function is incredibly inaccurate. I typically swing my driver at around 90-95 and it will give me swing speed measures of 105-113 which is incredibly misleading, with my seven iron I swing at around 75-80 miles an hour and it will give me readings of 85-93. Distances with short irons aren’t terribly inaccurate but anything longer than an 8 iron is incredibly inaccurate. My seven iron goes about 150 but I’ve seen numbers range from 135-180 and my driver is even worse, whenever I hit something really well I’ll get a distance in the low 100s and something that isn’t great will get a distance in the 200s range, keep in mind I hit my driver 240-250. I’ve been fortunate to use systems such as foresight and trackman which are far more accurate in giving consistent data. I understand that not everyone has access to the super expensive launch monitor but for $350 it’s probably just best to save up for a system like flightscope mevo or something else in the 500-1000 dollar range to get better and more consistent data.RyanP

Upon choosing the sc300i I had researched other units and there didnt seem to be much to choose between them. What led me to choose the sc300i was the ease of use , the digital display and the voice feedback. Upon using for the first time I went to the range where they have a mevo system installed, in comparison to the stats from the mevo to the sc300i I found very little difference so was impressed with the results. The sc300i has great battery life and with it being portable, once the better weather arrives I will be using it at our course.. I personally like the carry distances you get which is something you cant get from just practicing, it has certainly helped already with club selectionstevieb5019627

Very erratic product. Measures yardages fairly accurately until you get above 7 iron, then wildly inconsistent. Other than yardages, the other readings are totally off. Measures my sky high 9 iron shots as going 140 yards, while showing a swing speed of 26mph and a ball speed of 31. I don't think so. Driver measures between 180 yards and 270 yards, on very similar ball contact and flight. I'm shopping for a better monitor, this one not worth the money I spent.gkay47

Fantastic device! I utilize it on my home driving range hitting into a net in my back yard. It saves me time and money by avoiding crowds and distractions at the local driving range . A large bucket of balls is $11.00 and gas prices are skyrocketing. So the swing caddie is a great solution for me. I t allows me to warm up before a round and the data it provides is invaluable. I only wish it had shot dispersion and trajectory graphics. Maybe I can find it in the target mode. Nevertheless this product is perfect for my needs!Latrice G.

I got this in order to try and help my young daughter increase her swing speed at the range and give both my kids something to do at the range besides just hit balls. Just a training device. It worked great. She was able to increase her all out swing speed by 18 mph. Then when she used her controlled "easy" swing, it was still faster than what she was doing. Great results, great product. Unfortunately, I loved it for myself. I set it up a little too far in front of my ball and toed the ball at about 120 mph swing speed. It exploded with the impact. 3rd time we used it. I'm going to have the manufacturer see if he can rebuild it for a discounted price. He is incredibly helpful. I have already ordered another one, just to have two. Kids can have the cracked one. Totally worth it. Other guys at the range liked it too. This is a great product at a reasonable price with great customer service. When was the last time you heard that said together?
