I purchased this product last summer and began using it immediately. I love that I don't need to purchase gels to use with this, like many other machines, because I'm allergic to the ingredients in the gels. I used this for 5 weeks and really began seeing results mid-summer. I had to discontinue use of this due to pregnancy. However, it's February now, and I can still see the results. I still have a lot of hair growth, because I didn't use it for the full 8 weeks, but all hair that was removed during the summer is still gone. It has not grown back. Please understand that hair grows in cycles. This machine is only supposed to be used once per week for 8 weeks…possibly a little longer. While we may be impatient and want to get faster results, using it more frequently will not yield faster/better results because hair grows in cycles. You can't kill hair growth after you already killed it. You also can't kill hair growth that is not in active growing stage yet. I really started to notice results after 4 weeks of use because I was able to see the thinning of the hair that was growing in. After the 8 weeks of use are done, you may still need to use a round of it from time to time, as we develop new hair follicles every so often. This does not mean that the machine doesn't work. It simply means, your body is producing more hair follicles. This machine promises to get results in the same amount of time as getting your hair professionally removed. I too had high hopes for this product after having done lots of research. I too have fair skin and dark hair which should be the ideal combination for success. I followed all manufacturers recommendations for preparation prior to use. I "used up" the flash head that came with the unit and the overall result is absolutely no change in either the amount of hair or it's rate of regrowth. (Reality check…. the flash is used up when it no longer fires…. not after 5000 or however many flashes. That is a scam on an already overpriced item of questionable value) I went so far as to only use the unit on the high setting and was doing two, 10 minute sessions per day. Still no visible results. Great packaging…… convincing sales and video presentation on the ME web site……. but none of those things translate into an effective device. I have had this Ipl for about 4 months. I used it diligently for the first 3 ( it took me this long to achieve significant reduction, but hair still definitely grows in treated areas ). I am still satisfied with reduction, but do see growth returning faster as I discontinue treatment, which I involuntarily had to do, as my device gets extremely hot and is stuck on the highest setting. It is painful to use on this setting and I have a high pain tolerance ( high as in took no pain killers of any kind following my c section because I felt the pain was tolerable ). For the time and money invested, I am not thrilled with the purchase, but hopefully I just received a faulty device and others have a better experience. I love the Braun Silk Expert Pro 5 system. Upon unpacking, I was able tell Braun took great care in curating this product. It comes with a gorgeous carrying case and there are spots for each piece or the device. First I tried a test spot on my arm. I made sure to shave it first and allow it to dry thoroughly. I used a smaller tip for this test area and it was pain free. Since I didn’t notice any negative affects on my test area, I decided to test it out on my legs the next day. After showering and drying, I used the wider tip so that I could glide it on my legs for a quicker process. If you hold the button down, instead of pulsing, it’ll allow the treatment to continue until you let go of the button which makes treating larger areas easier. Again, this was pain free. I am a mixed race female with a more olive skin tone and the reader for tone will let me know if the area I’m about to treat is acceptable since dark skin isn’t compatible with this system. I’ll continue to use this system weekly until I no longer have hair growth.Angie4u

I used this product with my wife. We have been using the SmoothSkin Pure Mini once a week for about 4 weeks now as the directions instructed. The manual says that you can do a full body treatment in as little as 10 minutes, but it took 10 to 15 minutes to do both full legs. The product has 2 settings, regular and sensitive, the difference is the brightness/strength of the light flash. There is an internal fan because the bright light does produce heat, it sounds like a quiet hair dryer. It is very easy to use, just put the window side flush against your skin and push the button (either regular or sensitive) and it will emit a bright flash against your skin. There is a sensor that detects if the window is completely flush against the skin and if it isn’t it will not flash. For areas where it is not flat skin (ex: knees) there is a magnetic attachment that fits over the window that makes the window area smaller allowing for the product to be flush against the skin and flash. There was no discomfort, redness or irritation when using the product. After about 10 minutes of use the flashes do get warmer and warmer which can cause discomfort, I just waited a minute or two for it to cool off a little and continued the treatment. We used the sensitive setting on the inside of the thighs and on the back of the knee area since these are more sensitive areas and the flashes on the regular setting were a little hot. My wife has light skin and light hair on her legs and the instructions say it works best on darker hair, so she was a little skeptical on whether this would work for her. It wasn’t until after her second treatment (week 2) that she noticed a change in the growth of hair on the treated area compared to the non-treated tattooed area. The hair was not growing back as quickly in the treated areas because it was shorter than the tattooed area hair. I noticed that some of the thicker hairs were not coming as thick and a little squirrely (not straight) which made me think the treatment was affecting the hair follicles. We will continue using this product and doing the weekly treatments for the full 12 weeks and I will update this review when the treatment is done.PaulieB1
Home IPL devices for hair removal can really be hit or miss. Sometimes they work great, but suffer from slow speed or the bulbs don't last very long. Other models just don't work very well at all. With the Smoothskin Mini those problems don't see to be an issue at all and the results are great. The device itself is incredibly compact, making it very easy to manuveur and get it angled exactly how you need it to get both large and small areas of skin. It's comfortable to hold and overall the design supports an easy use. The Mini has several really amazing features that help make the entire process effortless. The first being the skin contact sensor that measures your skin tone before each light pulse, which makes sure you are using the strongest but safest light pulse for each pulse. It also sports several intensity and comfort settings to make sure that you have all the control and aren't in pain while using the device. All of this with a very quick firing light makes using the Mini effortless and incredibly quick compared to previous IPL devices I've used. The results are really great. After about 6 weeks I've seen really noticable results and because it's so easy to use is one reason I think the results will last. I don't dread using it and don't have to commit an hour to a treatment so continual use will be no problem. Comes with 2 comfort modes and three intensity levels for sensitive areas and more stubborn thicker hair and an attachment for precision it comes in handy for smaller spots. It has an automatic detection for skin tone so it measure what light level is needed. I am covered in tattoos so I did try it first on a small part of a leg tattoo that could easy be fixed if it damaged the color of it but had no issues using it on them. I have had the Braun IPL PL3012 for several weeks, and I have used it 4 times, with one week between uses. I have fair/light skin (always burn without sunscreen, but can tan) and medium colored hair. The skin on my lower legs is not sensitive, but it is very sensitive on my inner thighs and bikini line and underarms, which makes shaving painful. I have not had any adverse effects or reactions to using this product. The PL3012 is relatively easy to use. The biggest challenge for me was looking away from the device when the laser was in use. For this reason, I found it easier to use single pulses (stamp mode), move the device to the next spot, and then activate another single pulse. The head does gently glide along the skin if you choose to use the glide mode. There is a slight stinging in some areas that quickly goes away, but in most places there is only a warm sensation. It is very similar to how it felt when I had laser hair removal done at a salon, but much more affordable and easier to schedule. The included booklet says it can take several uses over a few months to interrupt all the hair's growth cycles. Thus, I don't have significant results to report yet. The Braun Silk Expert Pro 3 Hair Removal System has been great to have at home. You can use this right out of the box, there is no set up required. I really liked that it comes with a razor. The directions are so easy to understand and follow. With my skin color and hair color it worked really well. I really like that when you are using this if a part of your skin or hair color isn't correct it won't work, you will see a red light. On areas you can use it the flash will go off on it's own. The flash is very bright on this. I do end up wearing sunglasses while using this. That would really be my only issue. There is a little bit of heat that the light and flashes give off. But this does not hurt at all. You can also turn down the setting on here if you don't need it so high or if you are a little bit more sensitive. This is very easy to glide over my legs and and other areas I am looking to use this on. I have been using this for a number of weeks already. First thing I really loved was the fact that it came with a pouch to put everything inside. I can take it on vacation without any worries. The light is a little bright, but it doesn’t hurt at all. It’s easy and fast to use. It took about 5 mins to go over both legs. I really like that I can use it on my armpits, face and legs. The instructions were very clear. I know it’s gonna be a while to get to my goal, but it’ll be worth it. The hair is now becoming thinner. Honestly it’s a great alternative to waxing and shaving. I even like that they have a chart to go off for the color of your hair as well. When I first used it , I was thinking i wasn’t going to feel anything, but indeed you do feel something. I got e-smooth to use on my upper lip and chin area. It is time consuming b/c use in a 2-3 cm area at a time. I have only used it a few times over a couple weeks. Suppose to tweeze hairs out afterward. It does seem to work. I like this type b/c I'm not sure I could see well enough to get a probe into the hair shaft. The instructions are very easy to follow and also have diagrams so you can’t go wrong really. When first using the lumea only put it to number 1 and give it time to warm up, you’ll know when it’s ready as it illuminates at the back of the lumea. First session – the instructions are clear and for the device and what it does, it’s very easy to use, I found when I am doing the treatment I have to reduce the intensity when I get to my knee caps and my ankles, it’s a very bizarre sensation at times but does not hurt at all, I did struggle up my shin bone as I have quite thin legs but I just turned the Lumea length ways and it’s seems to have worked fine. Afte the first session i already noticed a drastic change in hair growth, I only have to shave my underarm twice in the first 2 weeks and my legs once’s, I wasn’t expecting miricales but I was very surprised with the outcome after one treatment. I have been using the product for over 6 weeks now on a bi weekly basis as per instructions. There are 5 settings that you can play around with until you get the right one for your skin. The skin tone sensor will prevent you from using too high a setting which is a great built in feature, I did have to go down a setting on occasion when the sensor picked up a change in my skin tone. So far, I have used on my legs and underarms building up the confidence to use in other areas. The small lightweight gun shaped design is easy to use and manoeuvre with a decent length cord to allow movement up and down the leg. Once you select the correct window attachment for the area (there are 3) you simply press the window on to the skin, wait for the light to let you know it is ready to go and press the button before moving on to the next area. You do have to keep track of the areas you have flashed but for larger areas you can press and hold for continuous pulses. There is a very bright flash to let you know it has delivered the pulse and although not painful, you are aware it has connected with the skin. After the first use, I didn’t think anything was happening but I noticed a real difference after the second use. I could also see where I had missed small areas but that is down to my inexperience of using this kind of device. By week 6 and the 3rd use, there was a definite improvement and although not silky smooth, there was perhaps 70% clear and I intend to keep going perfecting my use of the device. On a side note, this is not to be used on the eyebrows but it comes with a separate facial hair trimmer which can be used for this area which is a great addition. Can't agree more, the product does what it says. I have been using this product for about 8 weeks. For testing I started working on my armpits and bikini line. The first attempt was difficult as it was hard to find the right light intensity due to my dark skin under the armpits. It wasn't paining but there was the stinging sensation in your skin which is in any case nothing compared to waxing or plucking, as far as I'm concerned. The next sessions were smoother with reduced light intensity, thanks to Philips Lumea app. After 4 sessions I have observed that the hair growth is at a lower pace. I am sure it will be get better in longer usage. All in all, very positive. For notifications of my schedule I use the Philips Lumea app which keeps track of each session and provides useful tips on how to use and store the product with images, videos and comments. This was a very considered purchase, as it's a lot of money for a bit of beauty kit, but I was reassured by the positive reviews on here and other websites, and the fact that Philips offer a 100 day money-back guarantee. The device is easy to use, there is lots of guidance and even YouTube videos and a useful app you can download to remind you when a treatment is due. You need to be in front of a mirror so you can see it light up when it's ready to use, but once you know what you're doing it's very quick on the face and underarms – a matter of minutes. If you want to use it on your legs however, set some time aside – the 'window' is very small and so to cover a large area will take a while. It's also difficult to know where you finished the last bit, Phllips advise against drawing a grid on your leg! For the first couple of weeks there was no change, as expected from the guidance, but by the third session I noticed to my surprise that I hadn't needed to apply tweezers to those annoying chin hairs, and that the incipient moustache was more or less invisible. Underarms took another session before I noticed the difference, possibly because I hadn't covered the area very efficiently. I decided I didn't have time to do my legs, but I'm going to revisit that plan now because this is so effective. I swim regularly and while I believe body hair is a woman's own business, I do prefer not to have stubble under my arms. I should now only need to use it every six weeks or so to keep things under control, this is good because I have a queue of friends who would like to borrow it after me! I seriously wish I had discovered this years ago, it would have saved hours of shaving/waxing/tweezing, and don't even mention those horrible-smelling creams. Let me tell you if I could work for the company to sell this product I would. I would highly recommend you buy this, if I could rate it more than 5 stars I would …. Being a women dark hair , years of waxing and having a stubble a few days later , I think I can talk about everyone it's a nightmare . As soon as I opened this beauty it struck me as very sleek and stylish which is how I want to feel after using the product. The instructions are very easy to follow and also have diagrams so you can’t go wrong really. When first using the lumea only put it to number 1 and give it time to warm up, you’ll know when it’s ready as it illuminates at the back of the lumea. When I used it for the very 1st time on number 1 I was surprised how warm it felt and was worried it would be to hot for me to use on level 4-5 which on the shade and tanning level of burning as advised in the instructions leaflet I could go up to but that wasn’t the case as it felt lovely. The best time to use your hair removal system is after shaving, waxing and epilating etc I usually use it a couple of days after shaving before using the lumea. I must admit it is quite time consuming using the system so I advise you deliberately set aside a good hour for yourself to have a well deserved pamper session after a stressful week at work or at home keeping things in order but it really is worth it as I have noticed a big difference in just 6 weeks of using it as I don’t have to shave as often and re-growth is less often so I’m hoping in time it’s near none existent. I do have one piece of advice for people with tattoos on areas that you use your lumea and it’s that I advise not to use it on them areas as it did feel like it was really burning badly and felt sore afterwards! It might be just me but I thought I would just put it out there incase it isn’t just me that had this problem. All in all I can’t fault this little gem and well worth the money in the long run when you think how much you spend in a salon. There’s also a facial compact trimmer included in with the Lumea laser hair removal system which is fab as it’s the size of a thick pen and so stylish that you can just pop it into your handbag and know you won’t get caught out if your out and about and spot a dreaded stray hair on your face or your brow needs a quick reshape.Boo22
So I’ve never actually heard of an IPL machine until I started researching ways to reduce hair growth, smooth skin for longer etc and after reading up online, the Lumea was the product that was well know and the most talked about and liked product. I received the Lumea Advanced and it looked so classy and extremely well made, I read through the instructions and did my test site 24 hours before. First session – the instructions are clear and for the device and what it does, it’s very easy to use, I found when I am doing the treatment I have to reduce the intensity when I get to my knee caps and my ankles, it’s a very bizarre sensation at times but does not hurt at all, I did struggle up my shin bone as I have quite thin legs but I just turned the Lumea length ways and it’s seems to have worked fine. Afte the first session i already noticed a drastic change in hair growth, I only have to shave my underarm twice in the first 2 weeks and my legs once’s, I wasn’t expecting miricales but I was very surprised with the outcome after one treatment. It becomes difficult at times to get in the right position and get all areas but over time you learn and get in a flow/routine. Second Session – I felt the second session was a lot easier than the first session, as I knew what to expect and I also had mastered the art of using the Lumea and the angles to hold it at to ensure all areas were covered, again with the intensity I reduced by 1 around the ankle and the kneecap area. This time round I haven’t seen any drastic change, so shaved armpits 3 times and legs once. I’m due to do my 3rd treatment in 2 days and I’m excited to see the final result. Me personally will never go back to a razor again, these are pricey to begin with but are worth every single penny, they are stylish, convenient, save a fortune on razors, blades, waxing, shave gel etc. I would highly reccomend to anyone who second guessing this product as literally it’s amazing, no more awkward shower positions, no more shaving every other day, I just can’t believe this product exsisted and I had never heard of it. This is the first time I have used a hair removal device. I have always shaved or used cream which didn’t really suit my skin. I have been using the product for over 6 weeks now on a bi weekly basis as per instructions. There are 5 settings that you can play around with until you get the right one for your skin. The skin tone sensor will prevent you from using too high a setting which is a great built in feature, I did have to go down a setting on occasion when the sensor picked up a change in my skin tone. So far, I have used on my legs and underarms building up the confidence to use in other areas. The small lightweight gun shaped design is easy to use and manoeuvre with a decent length cord to allow movement up and down the leg. Once you select the correct window attachment for the area (there are 3) you simply press the window on to the skin, wait for the light to let you know it is ready to go and press the button before moving on to the next area. You do have to keep track of the areas you have flashed but for larger areas you can press and hold for continuous pulses. There is a very bright flash to let you know it has delivered the pulse and although not painful, you are aware it has connected with the skin. After the first use, I didn’t think anything was happening but I noticed a real difference after the second use. I could also see where I had missed small areas but that is down to my inexperience of using this kind of device. By week 6 and the 3rd use, there was a definite improvement and although not silky smooth, there was perhaps 70% clear and I intend to keep going perfecting my use of the device. On a side note, this is not to be used on the eyebrows but it comes with a separate facial hair trimmer which can be used for this area which is a great addition. I've only used this a couple of times, but so far I'm impressed. I thought it was going to be complicated to use, but it is actually no big deal. It seems that a lot of the treated hairs just fall out on their own, which was a pleasant surprise. It is clear that I will need to be patient and stay on a 3X a week schedule in order to rid the areas of all fine hairs, but it looks like this may do the trick! I have done needle-electrolysis before – which is painful and very time consuming. This is awesome, as it can be done in the privacy of your home when you have a few minutes. Also,I have tried the plucking (which is ENDLESS) and I have waxed my upper lip (which seems to be harsh on delicate and aging skin) – so device appears to be a LIFE CHANGER!!!!!! For those of you that spend endless time in from of the magnifying mirror, obsessing over every unwanted facial hair – this is the device for you! It is also working on stray bikini line hairs. HOWEVER…. The instructions are NOT completely clear on a few things: 1} Must hairs be visible to be treatable? Or does the conductive gel seep below the skin and treat hairs just under the surface??? 2) Is it essential to pluck EACH treated hair after treatment? Or is that just an option after treatment in order to quickly rid oneself of the treated hair? I just started using the epen about a week ago. I am starting to see good results on my upper lip. I don't see as much facial hair as I use to. I will continue using it to hopefully get rid of all my facial hair permanently. The booklet does suggest you use it 3 times a week continuosly to be able to see any improvements.
