I personally purchased this same MacBook Air (MBA) but with 512GB of storage. It's the same exact unit. I liked it so much I purchased this one for my wife. She didn't need the extra GPU core or storage space. Overall, she has enjoyed this notebook more than the Wintel system we previously had. Apple's battery life estimates are more accurate, they're actually a little on the conservative side. Our previous Wintel systems (Dell XPS 13 2-in-1) were advertised with 14 hours of streaming battery life. The only way to hit that number was to turn the screen brightness down to 25%, turn off Bluetooth, flipping the screen around so the keyboard and trackpad were off, putting the system into power efficiency mode, and using MS Edge or the Netflix app (which limits streaming to 720p in Windows). Even then we couldn't ever fully get the 14 hours of advertised battery life and that was with 1080p notebooks. The MBA has a higher resolution display, a processor that performs better than the 11th gen Core i7 CPUs in our other units (that also had 16GB of RAM), and we can easily push 15 hours of real-world use with our systems. We no longer must bring a charging brick wherever we go. The battery life is longer if you just stream video content or play videos that have been downloaded. Another surprise with the MBA was the speaker quality. I'm not sure what Apple is doing but their speakers are better than what's in most 17" notebooks. The speakers in our previous 13" system were terrible, these put those to shame. Apple also put a faster SSD in these. Writing and reading large files take less time, the SSDs in our MBAs are almost 3X faster than our other systems (which were more expensive). The webcam is passible, I wish it were better. The image processor in the M1 helps with that though. Everyday performance with the 7 GPU M1 is fine, even for mobile gaming. macOS can now run iPad and iPhone apps, if the developers unlock them, and we haven't had any issues with that. 8GB of RAM is more than enough for everyday use with the M1. Even when we are stressing our systems, they only use 6GB of RAM. My only complaint is that the design is dated. It's essentially the same design that Apple released in 2018, just with a better keyboard. You get the same two USB4/TB3 ports, the same display, the same trackpad, the same physical webcam, and a better keyboard. I wouldn't normally have any issues with a classic design but it's almost 4 years old now and it has been cloned to death. Every other major PC maker has released a notebook that's a silver, dark gray, or gold slab of aluminum. I want color again with my PCs, like the old iBook G3 days. Even a white system would be different than the same three colors Apple has stuck with for far too long. The screen bezels are large, and the system is begging to be updated with a 14" display. Slimming the bezels while keeping the same form factor would allow for a 14" display, like Apple did with the 14" MacBook Pro. But, for the price of the system, it's hard to beat. The price-to-performance ratio of the baseline M1 MBA isn't matched with Windows notebooks and you get the added benefit of running macOS on Apple's hardware. It's powerful enough for photos and video editing yet efficient enough to last all day. This fan-less design is great and I'm excited to see what Apple does next.Pablo
I'm coming into the M1 Mac game a little late. I waited until this year to pick up a new MacBook Air (MBA) with Apple's M1 chip. I opted for the 512GB model because I wanted to store more downloaded movies and music. I'm not going to get into macOS, that is a solid OS that I like. I enjoy how integrated macOS with my iPhone, iPad, and content across everything. What I will go into is the design and performance of the M1 MBA. First off, it is worth paying for the extra 512GB of storage. Apple should start the MBA at 512GB but here we are. I'm able to store over 50 movies (at 1080p or 4K) and some music playlists without getting close to filling up the space. The design of the MBA is the same as it's been for a while. It's dated and has been cloned to death. The system is carved out of a single piece of aluminum and it's solid, I just wish Apple had updated these along with the internal. The screen is the same, the keyboard is improved, the trackpad is the same, the two USB-C ports are now USB4 and not just Thunderbolt 3, everything is pretty much the same except for what's inside. 2022 should bring a redesign of the MBA, I will probably sell this one off once that happens. The only thing to really talk about with this unit is the M1 SoC. You may scoff at the 8GB of RAM but it is more than enough for the majority of people. The M1 is a solid SoC offering an improvement over the previous Intel chips, both in the CPU and integrated graphics, while drastically increasing efficiency. The MBA can export a color-graded 4K video faster than real time unless you use ProRes. Even then it's faster than similar 11th and 12th gen Intel chips. I've edited photos, videos, and websites on my MBA without issues. The M1 doesn't stutter and completes everything faster than my previous notebook that had a faster clocked 11th gen Core i7 with 16GB of RAM. Apps open almost instantly, and everyday tasks are handled with ease. The pleasant thing about the M1 is that it doesn't require a cooling fan. The MBA is a quiet machine, unlike my previous notebook that would fire up its cooling fans when opening Edge/Chrome. The efficiency of the M1 is astounding. My system always instantly turns on when opening the lid, it has yet to discharge when in sleep mode (and I left it for two weeks without charging), and I'm easily getting 15+ hours of real-world usage. That's watching downloaded videos, streaming movies, working in Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), surfing the web in both Safari and Chrome, playing some of the Lego games through Steam, and listening to music. Apple has rated the MBA at 15 hours of web browsing and 18 hours of video playback, I think those numbers are a tad generous. So far, this is my favorite Mac notebook despite the M1 being a year old now and the MBA using a 5-year-old design. It's not as powerful as the new Pros and doesn't have the same quality screen but most people don't need a MacBook Pro. The baseline 14" MBP is only 20-30% faster than the MBA despite costing almost twice as much. Don't get the 13" MBP if you want something more powerful. It's the same hardware but adds a cooling fan and costs $300 more. That cooling fan isn't worth it, even for sustained workloads. You're better off getting a 14" MBP if you truly need the added performance. The only things the 13" MBP offer are the touch bar (which is being phased out anyways) and more battery life due to the thicker case. Stick with the 13" MBA. It's a bit thinner and easier to carry around, it's also nice having a silent system that still gets great battery life and can perform everyday tasks with ease while keeping up with offerings from Intel (without requiring the extra power).Pablo

Personally, I notice that the Macbook stays much cooler during heavy downloads, and it also stops making noise. I also noticed that the processor could open apps much faster. In my opinion, I find the completely new design of the MacBook Air 2022 very astonishing! The design is made by different metals and glasses that ensure the Macbook will not brake after a little fall. I take the MacBook to school every day and I notice that the metals in the design of the MacBook make the laptop last much longer, especially when we talk about the outside of the laptop. The design also fits 100% with the rest of Apple's products, the MacBook comes in 3 different colors that perfectly matches with the latest iPhones and iPads. Finally, I recommend this product to anyone, especially college students. This is a beautiful laptop with very reliable build quality. It's battery life is enough for general purpose computing throughout the day. The fan is silent and inactive most of the time. The system speed is very fast and can be upgraded to newer versions of macosx. The aluminum chasis, thin profile, and lightweight make it VERY convenient to carry around and travel. Windows 7, 8, 10 can be installed via boot camp. It's keyboard is back-lit, and it's on board memory and drive can be upgraded for more capacity to future proof the system. It is very reliable and doesn't lag. Menus respond instantly. Wifi and Bluetooth have Amazing range, and can reach wireless access points regular laptops can't. There's a magnetic charging cable, so if you accidentally tugged on the wire it won't pull the laptop off the table. There's a variety of input ports such as USB, dvi, thunderbolt, etc. The microphone grill is cleverly hidden and you won't even know it has a microphone. The webcam has acceptable image quality, and frame rates are smooth. If you install windows, you have the best of both worlds with a dual booting macosx and windows device.mavhaim.k
In a world where macs will run you thousands of dollars, this one is a nice option for less than half the price of new. The specs are pretty low but they still will work for light work, especially for the age and how popular cloud services are. The size is nice and portable so can really replace using a tablet if you wanted. Downside is that it certainly can't handle heavy workloads. Even basic flash games usually lag too much to really play. The space to store your own stuff is small but, as I said before, livable in this world of cloud services. The RAM though, that is rough. My memory usage regularly hangs around 50-80% usage, which can start to hang things up a bit. Don't plan on having a bunch of tabs open or too many programs. But you can get used to how to handle it easily enough. Overall, for the price you can get these at, paired with still being able to use the latest OS and being quick enough for the modern world, it's easily worth it. was a little skeptic of the keyboard since I also use a retina macbook 12. Now after using the new 15 macbook pro for a few weeks, every time I go back to the flat keyboard of the rMB12, it feels awkward. The keyboard on the new macbook pros are definitely superior to those found on earlier retina macbooks. Other than the good keyboard both the performance, screen quality and the battery longevity are the strong points for Apple's flagship laptop. I am getting around 8-9 hours on 40-50% sreen brightness. I have learned the hard way that the screen brightness is the ultimate battery killer, since I simply can not run the CPU more than 10% (even if I run multiple browser tabs and browsers, mail app and watch videos at the same time – although no rendering or cpu demanding tasks, watching video on browser or video conferencing were quite hard on the rMB12), if I run the screen with 90-100% brightness I get around 4-5 hours runtime. Since 50% is more than enough for a satisfactory screen experience, I will give this macbook 5 stars for Apple's engineering requirements of making the laptop lighter by putting a ~75% smaller battery than the older rMBP15, and the other 5 stars goes to intel's energy efficient but powerful 7th gen quad core cpu. To sum it up 2017 MBP15 is the way to go if do not have very strict backpack/carry on choices that pushes you towards MBP13. I am happy with both of my choices and will be upgrading when the time comes both MB12 as an always with me and MBP15 as the ultimate workhorse all round laptop. I was a Microsoft Surface Book 2 (15 inch) user that needed a new laptop and tried the Surface Laptop Studio as an upgrade. I had a ton of issues with that laptop and had to return it even if I liked the 2 in 1 functionalities of the laptop. Since I had to return the laptop and already was using mostly Apple Products (Apple Watch, iPhone, and iPad) I decided to bite the bullet and fully invest into the Apple Ecosystem by buying this laptop. I don't regret it. For starters, while the Surface Laptop Studio had a beautiful display, this MacBook still manages to beat it in colors. Plus MacOS takes better advantage of the 120hz display than Windows does with system animations so it is more noticeable that the screen is more nimble than the standard 60hz displays. The colors are extremely accurate and the mini LEDs in this display make it so you have near OLED levels of true blacks when displaying dark/contrasty images. The only gripe I have with the display is I still am not the biggest fan of the notch but it is something that you get used to pretty quickly. The performance of this laptop is another thing that is a sight to behold. While Apple silicon is still having some hiccups it does really work way more efficiently than the outgoing Intel processors. The processor in this MacBook stays impressively cool and doesn't get no where near as hot as the previous laptops I have had along with the fans seemingly never really having to kick in. Along with that, for the first time I have a laptop that doesn't have to throttle its processing power to make sure that the battery can last a decent amount. This makes it so I don't have to carry a laptop charger with me at all times even if I am doing something more intense than a word document or web browsing. Other notable things about this laptop is the impressive quality of sound and even bass coming from the built in speakers. The build quality is phenomenal especially when you compare it to the Surface Laptop Studio that I had before this (that laptop had a squeaky hinge and some flex to the laptop which was unsettling). The keyboard on this laptop is one of the best and on the same level as Microsoft's Surface line, but the track pad on this MacBook is something that still has to be beat. I do wish this had something of 2 in 1 capabilities and even just a touch screen because sometimes its just easier to touch it on the screen instead of moving the cursor around to get it where you want. Otherwise this is an impressive laptop that is great if you are productivity focused. It can run some games extremely well but due to not being compatible with the vast majority of PC games, gaming is one of the things that makes up this laptop's archille's heal.Chipped007
Let me just say, that at the current sale price (which may or may not be still going on at the time you read this review), this laptop is an absolute steal! I've been a lifelong Windows user and never even looked at Apple computers, but recently, I've been looking for a new laptop and after trying a couple of highly rated Windows laptops, found them to be disappointing, especially their battery life and thermal and acoustic performance, since virtually all laptops in the higher performance tier are still too hot and loud, with mediocre battery life. So, out of frustration with the current PC laptop market, I decided to give an Apple laptop a try. I knew going in that they have great battery life, performance, and supposedly run cool and quiet. I picked up the MacBook Pro 14, and I was simply blown away! Yes, it runs fast. I do some video editing and graphic design, and it handles Photoshop and DaVinchi Resolve flawlessly. I also play some games, mostly strategy, and it runs them too! What I like the most, is how it doesn't lose any performance when running on battery, vs plugged in. Sure, playing a game like Cities Skylines will likely drain the battery in 2-3 hours, but it's amazing to actually be able to play it, with high resolution and graphics settings, on a laptop, with no cables attached! And it's smooth. The screen is beautiful. The mini LED is basically like having an OLED colors and contrast, but 3-4X higher brightness. It looks stunning. The computer is virtually silent. The fans stay off 95% of the time (with my use), and even when playing a demanding game, I only know they're running by checking the system monitoring software. I can't hear them unless I put my ear right next to the keyboard. It's seriously impressive. Yes, at 100%, they can get somewhat loud, but I can only get them to run at 100% by forcing it in software, I don't know what you have to do on this laptop use to get them to run this fast. And the laptop can get a little warm at the top of the keyboard, but not uncomfortably hot like most gaming Windows laptops. It's really, barely warm, and again, only when pushing it a bit, in most day-to-day tasks, it stays at the room temperature. I can probably keep going with details for a while, there is so much to like about this machine, but I want to respect everyone's time, so let me just add a couple of quick points. The speakers are great. The web camera is better than most, it's very good, the design is clean and pleasant, the ports are good, and the fingerprint scanner works the first time, every time… it's an excellent laptop. I want to also mention a couple of negatives. Nothing too bad, and I still live the laptop overall, but nothing is perfect. The first thing that I'm not 100% happy with, is MacOS. I can get all the software I need, and it runs great, but Apple is still a bit too tyrannical with their software, requiring a bunch of passwords, and limiting your customization options. It can also be a bit glitchy, sometimes virtual buttons get stuck, or the OS can feel slower than this laptop actually is with its animations, or just in general the way it handles RAM. Same apps can sometimes launch in half a second, and at other times take 6-7 seconds to load, it can feel inconsistent. You can run Windows on it, with Parallels Desktop, or one of several free VM options, which I thought would make it perfect, but keep in mind that you can only use an ARM version of Windows, so not everything works on it too. Still, very impressive seeing Windows 11 running on it just as good if not better than many Windows laptops, even in the Virtual Machine. The next thing, that's just kind of meh, is keyboard. It's not bad, the keys feel nice, but its backlight might look uneven under certain angles, which cheapens the look of the machine a bit, IMO. It looks fine from above, though. I usually keep the backlight off for this reason. Not a bad keyboard, but there is also nothing "magic" about it. I've seen better, and I've seen worse. And finally, the build quality can be a hit or miss. The first unit that I got had a slightly misaligned lid (against the bottom half, when closed). I exchanged it, and the second unit was creaking around the keyboard when opening and closing the lid. I returned it too and almost gave up on them, but a few days later, decided to give it just one more shot with a different color (the first two were Space Grey). I picked up a Silver model, and this one is perfect. So if you get one and something doesn't feel right, you might want to check another unit to make sure you get the good one, or just don't be picky like me. I assume most people will never notice or questions things like that. One final thought. This Macbook Pro 14, even at the base level, is a real deal. It's worth every penny they ask for it, and if you can get it on sale, or a good open box unit, it's probably the best value out there at the moment!drumnbass

Disclaimer: I got my MacBook Pro (14" M1 Pro 2021) in a 10% off Sale. Which was $100 more than a M2 Air spec'd up (16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 10-Core GPU) Reasons I picked this model over a Spec'd Air: – 512GB storage (factory standard) Means I can install Windows (via Bootcamp – a built in MacOS feature) and not worry about either OS not having enough room to unpack, install, temporarily store etc. Also means if I don't have access to my cloud storage in the future, I don't have to worry about dumping files to make room (Particularly good for Remote Working and Travellers) – 16GB RAM (factory standard) I can have multiple applications running and not notice. ie. I currently have a Live Background running, 9 different tabs open on safari, Apple Music hosting on my Mac but streaming to a Speaker all without it the CPU fan even turning on. – 14-Core GPU (factory standard) I can actually play my Sims 4 & it's expansions with no sacrifice to frame rates or smooth playability; plays better than it was on my Windows Tower with a GTX1650 GPU. Also good for Future Proofing, with everything getting more and more graphic heavy, I will be able to use this MacBook for quite a few years without needing to upgrade. (which if you're paying $$$$ for a computer? You don't want to be doing it again anytime soon.) – Interconnectivity Apple (in my opinion) has cornered the market on seamless synchronisation between their products, especially in the Household section. Automations and Family Sharing are really user friendly once you adjust. Having an iPhone & a HomePod myself, it's amazing the way I can handoff music, or create an automation from any device (for any device haha) and it not be difficult; even our Sony TV utilises the inbuilt Remote App on my iPhone, and works well with Airplay. This is a beautiful laptop with very reliable build quality. It's battery life is enough for general purpose computing throughout the day. The fan is silent and inactive most of the time. The system speed is very fast and can be upgraded to newer versions of macosx. The aluminum chasis, thin profile, and lightweight make it VERY convenient to carry around and travel. Windows 7, 8, 10 can be installed via boot camp. It's keyboard is back-lit, and it's on board memory and drive can be upgraded for more capacity to future proof the system. It is very reliable and doesn't lag. Menus respond instantly. Wifi and Bluetooth have Amazing range, and can reach wireless access points regular laptops can't. There's a magnetic charging cable, so if you accidentally tugged on the wire it won't pull the laptop off the table. There's a variety of input ports such as USB, dvi, thunderbolt, etc. The microphone grill is cleverly hidden and you won't even know it has a microphone. The webcam has acceptable image quality, and frame rates are smooth. If you install windows, you have the best of both worlds with a dual booting macosx and windows device.mavhaim.k
In a world where macs will run you thousands of dollars, this one is a nice option for less than half the price of new. The specs are pretty low but they still will work for light work, especially for the age and how popular cloud services are. The size is nice and portable so can really replace using a tablet if you wanted. Downside is that it certainly can't handle heavy workloads. Even basic flash games usually lag too much to really play. The space to store your own stuff is small but, as I said before, livable in this world of cloud services. The RAM though, that is rough. My memory usage regularly hangs around 50-80% usage, which can start to hang things up a bit. Don't plan on having a bunch of tabs open or too many programs. But you can get used to how to handle it easily enough. Overall, for the price you can get these at, paired with still being able to use the latest OS and being quick enough for the modern world, it's easily worth it. I've used this as my daily driver since I got it a few years ago and I've only recently felt the desire to get something else to play games on.hannah.e
was a little skeptic of the keyboard since I also use a retina macbook 12. Now after using the new 15 macbook pro for a few weeks, every time I go back to the flat keyboard of the rMB12, it feels awkward. The keyboard on the new macbook pros are definitely superior to those found on earlier retina macbooks. Other than the good keyboard both the performance, screen quality and the battery longevity are the strong points for Apple's flagship laptop. I am getting around 8-9 hours on 40-50% sreen brightness. I have learned the hard way that the screen brightness is the ultimate battery killer, since I simply can not run the CPU more than 10% (even if I run multiple browser tabs and browsers, mail app and watch videos at the same time – although no rendering or cpu demanding tasks, watching video on browser or video conferencing were quite hard on the rMB12), if I run the screen with 90-100% brightness I get around 4-5 hours runtime. Since 50% is more than enough for a satisfactory screen experience, I will give this macbook 5 stars for Apple's engineering requirements of making the laptop lighter by putting a ~75% smaller battery than the older rMBP15, and the other 5 stars goes to intel's energy efficient but powerful 7th gen quad core cpu. To sum it up 2017 MBP15 is the way to go if do not have very strict backpack/carry on choices that pushes you towards MBP13. I am happy with both of my choices and will be upgrading when the time comes both MB12 as an always with me and MBP15 as the ultimate workhorse all round laptop. This little machine is a workhorse. Bought it to do simple tasks – but turns out even with just 8gb RAM and the M2 chip, I am able to work on large Photoshop graphic files, and even videos with ease. The 256 gb hard drive is more than enough, and any additional storage needed can be put on an external drive or the cloud. My wife has an older model with the slanted slim design, but this redesigned shape with an even, yet still sleek base is fantastic and kind of rugged looking – a plus for me. The Liquid Retina display gives you sharp colors and image – especially when working with photos and graphics where crisp edges are essential. Going back to the Magsafe charging was the best thing Apple did – quick snap connecting, along with the fingerprint login are great when you're constantly on the go. I've never been overly impressed with the audio of any laptop – but this baby's sound is more crisp than any I've ever owned. And the price for this machine is on point making it a solid purchase. This is my first MacBook and I’m in love! This is the new MacBook Air with M2 chip in Midnight 2022 model. I ordered mine with 67W USB-C Power Adapter for $20. My MacBook is the standard model. No upgrades. I love it. It’s so lightweight. The color is fantastic! I’m not seeing all of the fingerprints that others are mentioning. Screen is large enough to watch movies comfortably. I enjoy the Touch ID. Not having to enter your password every time you lock your MacBook is a great function. I do wish it was also touchscreen like my Samsung. I’m still getting used to the different functions of the Mac but it’s pretty easy to use. One downside is that I’ll have to purchase the correct adapter so that I can sync everything from my iPhone to the MacBook. The phone charger doesn’t fit the MacBook. Not sure why that doesn’t automatically populate when you connect it to your Apple ID. That’s my only negative opinion about it. I originally wanted the MacBook Pro though, after looking at the price I determined that this was a better choice for me. The MacBook Pro is really heavy. Although it does have that really nice large screen the weight and the price for the standard wasn’t for me. Again, I love it! I love iOS and iPadOS. I haven't had an iPad in a few years, so I thought that MacOS would be a great experience to dive into. However, it was not really the seamless experience I expected. I am not sure about the appeal of MacBooks themselves. They are kind of buggy, and extremely limited in what they can do out of the box unless you buy the multitude of overpriced and overhyped Apple-specific accessories. Yes, it was buggy lol. I was very surprised by this. When I say buggy, there would be minor issues with the device restarting itself in the middle of browsing. This would happen when I would try to watch a video on it. I'd never be browsing a million sites at once, just the video application (youtube, netflix, hulu, take your pick), and it would crash and reset. If I tried casting from it, certain screen pixels would become stuck. I have never seen that before. Seems like it happens to MacBook users, but hard pass for me. When it comes to my iPhone, I can stomach it when it is just a phone case, or mobile charger station, or a bluetooth keyboard to enhance productivity. When it becomes $400 docks or $50 cables to increase productivity and efficiency, specifically to just extend a monitor, that is just insane. It is simpler, if you dish out the $2000 for a MacBook Pro. But that's not a price jump worth it to me just so I can use, let alone simply enjoy my MacBook on two displays. Beautiful device, but it just does not live up to it's price point compared to what you could get for an FHD/QHD gaming PC or laptop, or any number of productivity laptops that are sub the $1,200 price point. I ended up going with an iPad Pro 11. I will take the touch screen capabilities and better display any day, especially when it is $500 less.trifleagency

This is my first MacBook and I'm honestly really enjoying it! I switched over after reading several reviews saying that the new M1 Pro Chip allows you to run multiple applications at once while still maintaining high performance. I'm a professional artist who works with videos and photographs a lot, so being able to run applications like Lightroom, Photoshop, and Adobe Premier without having to slow down is very important to me. I found that the reviews I read are true! I've run all three plus other applications and they work really quickly. The only downside I've found is actually kind of my own fault. I didn't realize when purchasing this that screens are measured diagonally so it was a bit smaller than I expected but it works really well and I'm pleased with it.Charlotte R
I've only used it 2 days. Startup was never that easy. WiFi quality is very good, I got a long list of SSID I don't have in other devices at home. In my SSID I also have an iMac from where I could easily load files and personal data to this macbook. I tried Adobe Premiere with a 5.1K video and it played smoothly, I didn't have to create smaller proxies for edition. I didn't applied hard effects but with Adjustment Layers it played good. Fingerprint recognition is very good. Battery time is awesome. For now I cannot add more of the several features this macbook has.dstonek
I'm a creative professional. I've work in most digital mediums (graphics, photo, video, etc..). I have always made it a point to buy the most technically capable and speced-out machine available whenever I'm upgrading to a new system. My last Macbook Pro I purchased in 2013 and featured a 500GB SSD drive, maxed-out at 16GB of ram, and ran on the fastest (intel) chip Apple had to offer at the time. Making that choice got me a system that lasted me faithfully for nearly 10 years. It wasn't until probably last year (2021) until it started showing its age. So this new system is my next investment. Let me say. I've been using it for a little over a week and it's mind blowing how capable it is. Things that use to take a half-hour (renders, encoding, etc…) now take 5 mins. I'd go as far as to say that if you are not doing heavy animations and visual effects, the M1 Pro (instead of this M1 Max) will be more than enough computer for you for the next 6+ years. So save the money and invest it in the bigger SSD drive space. That said, there really are now words for the quality and craftsmanship of these new MacBook Pros. I was really excited to find a MacBook for this price. I had never owned one before, and it was going to really help me w/ my job & other daily things. I had been using it daily for a month, and all of the sudden, the screen stopped working,. This has appeared to be an issue with Best Buy pre-owned MacBooks, because I've since seen a few other reviews stating they had the SAME issue a month into ownership. I called Apple, and they stated this was an issue that would likely be costly to repair. I called Best Buy customer service & thankfully they are shipping another one to my house & allowing me to return the damaged one, no questions asked. This screen fault happened only 12 days before my return window expired. I'm lucky, because if this happened outside of the return window, I likely would not be issued a replacement. My advice – If you're planning to buy pre-owned, make sure you purchase some sort of warranty.kayle
5 stars for OWC!! Ordering, shipping was great. Computer is in fine condition, works well. The only problem is that it is supposed to be upgradable to the latest OS. Tried several times, get an error about not enough space for a firmware update. Contacted OWC they replied quickly, suggested a rest of PRAM, and SRAM. No luck with that. OWC said it seems to be an Apple SSD problem that theyre seeing on other computers too. This is a beautiful laptop with very reliable build quality. It's battery life is enough for general purpose computing throughout the day. The fan is silent and inactive most of the time. The system speed is very fast and can be upgraded to newer versions of macosx. The aluminum chasis, thin profile, and lightweight make it VERY convenient to carry around and travel. Windows 7, 8, 10 can be installed via boot camp. It's keyboard is back-lit, and it's on board memory and drive can be upgraded for more capacity to future proof the system. It is very reliable and doesn't lag. Menus respond instantly. Wifi and Bluetooth have Amazing range, and can reach wireless access points regular laptops can't. There's a magnetic charging cable, so if you accidentally tugged on the wire it won't pull the laptop off the table. There's a variety of input ports such as USB, dvi, thunderbolt, etc. The microphone grill is cleverly hidden and you won't even know it has a microphone. The webcam has acceptable image quality, and frame rates are smooth. If you install windows, you have the best of both worlds with a dual booting macosx and windows device.leonard.l

I've upgraded from a 2012 Macbook Pro to this M1 Max version. And quite frankly, most of the surface differences are quite minor. It's roughly the same size as my 2012 version except brighter, bigger screen without the Macbook logo at the bottom but with a new notch on top; a bigger trackpad that isn't mechanically driven; a keyboard that's nice and clicky, but with less travel than the old version and with a black background, and the ports have more modern USB-C upgrades; magsafe is pretty much the same and back but the cord is textured and i assume less resistant to breaking. All these things are the same but better, and I appreciate these small differences. I think people tend to overstate these differences though, with no shortage of over-enthusiasm, rational or not. But none of that really matters to me. What I love, love, love is the power, efficiency, and elegance of the design under the hood for programming, video editing, color grading, audio engineering in a form factor that I'm familiar with, that lasts forever on a battery and that doesn't burn my lap for heating inefficiency or deafen audio from an overbearing fan. For a long time I felt like Apple was just making incremental improvements (and some backsliding with the intention to innovate, but without the same revolutionary vision that made many of us fall in love with Apple). But it was really inspiring to see Apple return to true innovation and design by designing their chipset in-house, bearing all of the lessons from their success in phones and tablets. I won't have to buy another laptop for a long time because of this powerful, capable, and reliable machine.Thong
I had been debating whether to get this or the 14-inch Pro. For me, it came down to the fact that I don't travel as much as I used to. The 14-inch screen is VERY nice, but the extra screen real estate of the 16-inch is THAT noticeable. Yes, coming from a 13-inch MBP, this one is big and rather heavy (With the Fintie Protective Case on, it does not fit in most of my laptop backpacks/messenger bags). However, you get used to it and the screen makes lugging around the extra size and weight worth it. My main rig has a 34" widescreen display, so downsizing to a laptop can be painful. The 16-inch screen makes it less painful. In fact, there are working days where I will use my laptop exclusively (I work from home full-time) with no complaints and minimal, if any, drop in productivity. And, I can get through most of my working day on one battery charge. The reviews extolling the amazing battery life are no lie… it is incredible how long this battery lasts! If there is a con, besides the weight, I guess one would be that the RAM and SSD cannot be user upgraded. The 512GB SSD is not so much an issue for me (though it would be nice to upgrade to a faster SSD), but I would've liked to have been able to upgrade the RAM on my own. Honestly, it's not really an issue because it "feels" just as fast as my desktop with 32GB, but it's more about future-proofing since I do not plan to upgrade until this thing dies or, more likely, ends up on Apple's obsolete list. At this point, because I don't really notice any performance issues, it's hard to list this as a con. On a side note, typically, I buy my hardware from Amazon. However, the lead time for delivery was ludicrous (around 15 days). Best Buy had it in stock for the same discounted price and ready for immediate delivery. Bonus! About 10 days after I had received it, BB further dropped the discounted price by $50. I went online and chatted with a customer service rep to do a price match and, just as BB advertises, I ended up with $100 credited back to my credit card ($50 price match plus the $50 difference)… freaking awesome! All-in-all, I am very happy with this laptop and the purchasing experience with BestBuy.com.
Where do I even start with this review – I suspect I can start with stating this is the best portable computer I have ever purchased. When I heard Apple was moving to their silicon, I was somewhat apprehensive. I thought my days of using the Mac would be over, as it would lead down a path of apps that only work on M1 or only work on Intel, and there would be compatibility issues and bugs to work out for the first few generations. My expectations couldn't have been farther from the truth. All but one or two ancillary applications I use have been compiled for native Apple Silicon and those that aren't run without issue. The most prominent app I use that is still not native for Apple Silicon is Microsoft Teams. Previous to this, I had a 2017 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar – it was a dual-core i7 with 16GB of memory. A solid performer at the time, but I was never impressed with battery life, and the amount of heat that the machine produced was evident of the inefficiencies in that platform. The new M1 machine is light years ahead in this regard. No matter how long I use the machine or whatever I throw at it, it NEVER heats up – and along these lines, the battery lasts forever. I'm not sure I've had the battery drop past 75% even after using for upwards of four hours untethered to the charger. I was hesitant to go anywhere without the charger with my old MBP. With this device, I have no issues going out for a few hours with the computer and not worrying about if I've got my charger with me. The display on this machine is fantastic. It's bright, colors are vivid, and the ProMotion Refresh is killer. Scrolling through any type of content is so smooth. Did I mention it's fast? Apps open instantly, and 16GB of memory seems to be enough. I now use this as my main computer, displacing my 27" Quad Core i5 iMac with 24GB of memory on my desktop machine for seven years. I have tons of apps open all the time, including most of the core MS Office suite, text editors, SSH sessions, Slack, Zoom, and countless browsers with multiple tabs, and this machine doesn't slow down in the least. All in all, I can't say anything bad about this computer, even for its size, the extra pound and change that it weighs over my previous generation 13" MBP. If you twisted my arm, I'd say that this machine is slightly too large to use comfortably in economy seats on most aircraft – so keep that in mind.DonnieZ

I personally purchased this same MacBook Air (MBA) but with 512GB of storage. It's the same exact unit. I liked it so much I purchased this one for my wife. She didn't need the extra GPU core or storage space. Overall, she has enjoyed this notebook more than the Wintel system we previously had. Apple's battery life estimates are more accurate, they're actually a little on the conservative side. Our previous Wintel systems (Dell XPS 13 2-in-1) were advertised with 14 hours of streaming battery life. The only way to hit that number was to turn the screen brightness down to 25%, turn off Bluetooth, flipping the screen around so the keyboard and trackpad were off, putting the system into power efficiency mode, and using MS Edge or the Netflix app (which limits streaming to 720p in Windows). Even then we couldn't ever fully get the 14 hours of advertised battery life and that was with 1080p notebooks. The MBA has a higher resolution display, a processor that performs better than the 11th gen Core i7 CPUs in our other units (that also had 16GB of RAM), and we can easily push 15 hours of real-world use with our systems. We no longer must bring a charging brick wherever we go. The battery life is longer if you just stream video content or play videos that have been downloaded. Another surprise with the MBA was the speaker quality. I'm not sure what Apple is doing but their speakers are better than what's in most 17" notebooks. The speakers in our previous 13" system were terrible, these put those to shame. Apple also put a faster SSD in these. Writing and reading large files take less time, the SSDs in our MBAs are almost 3X faster than our other systems (which were more expensive). The webcam is passible, I wish it were better. The image processor in the M1 helps with that though. Everyday performance with the 7 GPU M1 is fine, even for mobile gaming. macOS can now run iPad and iPhone apps, if the developers unlock them, and we haven't had any issues with that. 8GB of RAM is more than enough for everyday use with the M1. Even when we are stressing our systems, they only use 6GB of RAM. My only complaint is that the design is dated. It's essentially the same design that Apple released in 2018, just with a better keyboard. You get the same two USB4/TB3 ports, the same display, the same trackpad, the same physical webcam, and a better keyboard. I wouldn't normally have any issues with a classic design but it's almost 4 years old now and it has been cloned to death. Every other major PC maker has released a notebook that's a silver, dark gray, or gold slab of aluminum. I want color again with my PCs, like the old iBook G3 days. Even a white system would be different than the same three colors Apple has stuck with for far too long. The screen bezels are large, and the system is begging to be updated with a 14" display. Slimming the bezels while keeping the same form factor would allow for a 14" display, like Apple did with the 14" MacBook Pro. But, for the price of the system, it's hard to beat. The price-to-performance ratio of the baseline M1 MBA isn't matched with Windows notebooks and you get the added benefit of running macOS on Apple's hardware. I'm coming into the M1 Mac game a little late. I waited until this year to pick up a new MacBook Air (MBA) with Apple's M1 chip. I opted for the 512GB model because I wanted to store more downloaded movies and music. I'm not going to get into macOS, that is a solid OS that I like. I enjoy how integrated macOS with my iPhone, iPad, and content across everything. What I will go into is the design and performance of the M1 MBA. First off, it is worth paying for the extra 512GB of storage. Apple should start the MBA at 512GB but here we are. I'm able to store over 50 movies (at 1080p or 4K) and some music playlists without getting close to filling up the space. The design of the MBA is the same as it's been for a while. It's dated and has been cloned to death. The system is carved out of a single piece of aluminum and it's solid, I just wish Apple had updated these along with the internal. The screen is the same, the keyboard is improved, the trackpad is the same, the two USB-C ports are now USB4 and not just Thunderbolt 3, everything is pretty much the same except for what's inside. 2022 should bring a redesign of the MBA, I will probably sell this one off once that happens. The only thing to really talk about with this unit is the M1 SoC. You may scoff at the 8GB of RAM but it is more than enough for the majority of people. The M1 is a solid SoC offering an improvement over the previous Intel chips, both in the CPU and integrated graphics, while drastically increasing efficiency. The MBA can export a color-graded 4K video faster than real time unless you use ProRes. Even then it's faster than similar 11th and 12th gen Intel chips. I've edited photos, videos, and websites on my MBA without issues. The M1 doesn't stutter and completes everything faster than my previous notebook that had a faster clocked 11th gen Core i7 with 16GB of RAM. Apps open almost instantly, and everyday tasks are handled with ease. The pleasant thing about the M1 is that it doesn't require a cooling fan. The MBA is a quiet machine, unlike my previous notebook that would fire up its cooling fans when opening Edge/Chrome. The efficiency of the M1 is astounding. My system always instantly turns on when opening the lid, it has yet to discharge when in sleep mode (and I left it for two weeks without charging), and I'm easily getting 15+ hours of real-world usage. That's watching downloaded videos, streaming movies, working in Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), surfing the web in both Safari and Chrome, playing some of the Lego games through Steam, and listening to music. Apple has rated the MBA at 15 hours of web browsing and 18 hours of video playback, I think those numbers are a tad generous. So far, this is my favorite Mac notebook despite the M1 being a year old now and the MBA using a 5-year-old design. It's not as powerful as the new Pros and doesn't have the same quality screen but most people don't need a MacBook Pro. The baseline 14" MBP is only 20-30% faster than the MBA despite costing almost twice as much. Don't get the 13" MBP if you want something more powerful. It's the same hardware but adds a cooling fan and costs $300 more. That cooling fan isn't worth it, even for sustained workloads. You're better off getting a 14" MBP if you truly need the added performance. The only things the 13" MBP offer are the touch bar (which is being phased out anyways) and more battery life due to the thicker case. Stick with the 13" MBA. It's a bit thinner and easier to carry around, it's also nice having a silent system that still gets great battery life and can perform everyday tasks with ease while keeping up with offerings from Intel (without requiring the extra power).Pablo

I take the MacBook to school every day and I notice that the metals in the design of the MacBook make the laptop last much longer, especially when we talk about the outside of the laptop. Finally, I recommend this product to anyone, especially college students. I had a lot of discretion before getting the 2017 Macbook Pro because of the huge amount of negative feedback I have seen for it. A lot of people still prefer the 2015 model, but I opted to purchase the 2017 model for the updated processor and lighter form factor. Although I don't have any personal experience with the 2015 version of the Macbook, I am completely satisfied with my experience with the 2017 model so far. It is a really sleek device with a great screen. The performance have been flawless and the battery life is great. It can get a little bit hot while the device is charging, but it's nothing uncomfortable. A lot of people experienced issues with the keyboard, but it hasn't been an issue for me. The keyboard does have very light key travel, so it may not be suited for anyone who really likes to "press in" to the keyboard. Personally, it took a little getting used to, but it has gotten comfortable as I use it more. I am still typing over 100 wpm on this device. Overall, I would recommend the 2017 MPB for anyone who is looking to purchase a MPB. However, if you could afford to wait for the newer model to come out, then that's probably also preferred. I needed a MBP at this time and the 2017 MPB has been a stellar device that met all of my needs.starkless

I am an Mac User. Everything I do for my business is through my MacBook Pro. I have an older model and was looking to purchase a new one with upgraded memory and processor. Because of where I live in ND there are no Apple MacBook dealers/stores anywhere and I needed this in a hurrry. So, I found what I needed on QVC and with paying premium shipping I would have it in my hands a day later (wonderful because I was due to travel two days later). So long story short my order stayed in limbo (“in processing”) for almost two days without any updates or anyone willing to actually locate its whereabouts. Seriously no one cared to call or advocate on my behalf as to where my $4k purchase was. I was really excited to find a MacBook for this price. I had never owned one before, and it was going to really help me w/ my job & other daily things. I had been using it daily for a month, and all of the sudden, the screen stopped working,. This has appeared to be an issue with Best Buy pre-owned MacBooks, because I've since seen a few other reviews stating they had the SAME issue a month into ownership. I called Apple, and they stated this was an issue that would likely be costly to repair. I called Best Buy customer service & thankfully they are shipping another one to my house & allowing me to return the damaged one, no questions asked. This screen fault happened only 12 days before my return window expired. I'm lucky, because if this happened outside of the return window, I likely would not be issued a replacement. My advice – If you're planning to buy pre-owned, make sure you purchase some sort of warranty.kayle
5 stars for OWC!! Ordering, shipping was great. Computer is in fine condition, works well. The only problem is that it is supposed to be upgradable to the latest OS. Tried several times, get an error about not enough space for a firmware update. Contacted OWC they replied quickly, suggested a rest of PRAM, and SRAM. No luck with that. This is a beautiful laptop with very reliable build quality. It's battery life is enough for general purpose computing throughout the day. The fan is silent and inactive most of the time. The system speed is very fast and can be upgraded to newer versions of macosx. The aluminum chasis, thin profile, and lightweight make it VERY convenient to carry around and travel. Windows 7, 8, 10 can be installed via boot camp. It's keyboard is back-lit, and it's on board memory and drive can be upgraded for more capacity to future proof the system. It is very reliable and doesn't lag. Menus respond instantly. Wifi and Bluetooth have Amazing range, and can reach wireless access points regular laptops can't. There's a magnetic charging cable, so if you accidentally tugged on the wire it won't pull the laptop off the table. There's a variety of input ports such as USB, dvi, thunderbolt, etc. The microphone grill is cleverly hidden and you won't even know it has a microphone. The webcam has acceptable image quality, and frame rates are smooth. If you install windows, you have the best of both worlds with a dual booting macosx and windows device.leonard.l

I just got this new Apple MacBook Pro 16 inch display this week. I had a 13-in for many years and loved it but I wanted the bigger screen as my eyes are not as young as they used to be. This one doesn't have the touch bar but it does have the touch ID which is very nice and a bigger keyboard which I'm still getting used to. The trackpad is also very large and the speakers are as well. The display is fantastic and overall I'm very happy with this new unit as it has additional ports on the side that the 13-in does not. I have dived into the Mac walled garden, which I have avoided for years. There is good and bad – everything is overpriced for starters, but this used laptop was priced about right. However, the walled garden promises that I can set the machine up, and allow the grandchildren to learn and play, without worrying about where they might go, or what they might do. Peripheral addons are proving expensive, but I am getting there. I hope to have the workstation configured and ready to play on, in time for Christmas. Overall, quality is good, security is good, and the machine is highly configurable, as the root user. I'm learning to respect that 9th gen i9 CPU, it is very capable – and that from a long time AMD user. For portability, the 16" is really nice! Even a half-blind old man can see the screen. For workstation use, plugging into whatever monitor you like works well. (docking station required of course) Overall, money well spent, and I have no real complaints yet. I regard 1Tb drive and 16 Gb of memory as "minimal". It amazes me how steep a price Apple puts on storage and memory! I still spend most of my time on my Linux server / workstation.runaway1956.4
This is a big unit. Quite a lot thicker than the previous Intel i7/i9 versions. Think I prefer the Touch bar to the new fixed function keys. New keyboard mechanics feels solid, but not a huge difference. HDMI and SD ports will benefit some, but not if you already have docks, adapters etc. Back to Mag-safe for the power cable, and AFAIK this means you cannot charge via the USB-C/Thunderbolt sockets. The US-C/Mag-safe cable comes in the box, but if you need another one, these are expensive from Apple. I'd prefer it if they hadn't gone back to Mag-safe. I don't notice any difference with the screen vs the previous 2019 model. Battery life and charge speed, with the 140w PSU, are very impressive.

To think this is Kogan! I have been with them since 2014 but I was dumbfounded by this product because of the following: (1) the packaging was like a joke — no care was given to the product; padding was superficial that I could imagine the laptop and its charger banging on each other; the cardboard covering was also soft (2) Scratches were everywhere on the laptop and a thin silver cover was applied which looked very dirty (3) the screen wasn't secure; at over 90% it falls backwards (4) the display screen was faulty.. When I hold the back, the display flashes and creates "waves" on the display (5) the charger runs very hot only after a few minutes of us. I didn't set it up because I want my money returned. I've gotten refurbished items but this is horrible — very short of how they described their 'A+' refurbished product.Anna K
When I first opened the package, I was pleasantly delighted. The laptop is well-protected and wrapped. It hasn't been scratched in any way. There isn't a single hairline scratch anywhere on the computer, and the screen is in perfect shape. It's not an aftermarket charger; it's a genuine Apple charger. The computer appears to be brand new. There are no dings, dents, or blemishes on it. I'm amazed at how good this laptop is, it was a 2017 model rather than a 2015. It was simple to set up. I would recommend this buyer to anyone who does not want to pay thousands of dollars on a brand new laptop when they have this choice. especially for the price. It appears to be fresh new. Picked one up in 2021 as part of a trade. I just wanted something I could take with me with a long battery life. I am pleasantly surprised that it does that and much more. Don't be fooled by reviewers telling you the screen is outdated. For its 13" size 1440×900 looks quite sharp to me especially compared to 2021 15" touchscreen win10 laptops saturating the market at under 500$. I think one is much better off with this used between 3-450$. I have 8gb ram and updated the SSD to 512. Running newest version of BigSur.

This is a beautiful laptop with very reliable build quality. It's battery life is enough for general purpose computing throughout the day. The fan is silent and inactive most of the time. The system speed is very fast and can be upgraded to newer versions of macosx. The aluminum chasis, thin profile, and lightweight make it VERY convenient to carry around and travel. Windows 7, 8, 10 can be installed via boot camp. It's keyboard is back-lit, and it's on board memory and drive can be upgraded for more capacity to future proof the system. It is very reliable and doesn't lag. Menus respond instantly. Wifi and Bluetooth have Amazing range, and can reach wireless access points regular laptops can't. There's a magnetic charging cable, so if you accidentally tugged on the wire it won't pull the laptop off the table. There's a variety of input ports such as USB, dvi, thunderbolt, etc. The microphone grill is cleverly hidden and you won't even know it has a microphone. The webcam has acceptable image quality, and frame rates are smooth. If you install windows, you have the best of both worlds with a dual booting macosx and windows device.mavhaim.k
In a world where macs will run you thousands of dollars, this one is a nice option for less than half the price of new. The specs are pretty low but they still will work for light work, especially for the age and how popular cloud services are. The size is nice and portable so can really replace using a tablet if you wanted. Downside is that it certainly can't handle heavy workloads. Even basic flash games usually lag too much to really play. The space to store your own stuff is small but, as I said before, livable in this world of cloud services. The RAM though, that is rough. My memory usage regularly hangs around 50-80% usage, which can start to hang things up a bit. Don't plan on having a bunch of tabs open or too many programs. But you can get used to how to handle it easily enough. Overall, for the price you can get these at, paired with still being able to use the latest OS and being quick enough for the modern world, it's easily worth it. I've used this as my daily driver since I got it a few years ago and I've only recently felt the desire to get something else to play games on.hannah.e

Now after using the new 15 macbook pro for a few weeks, every time I go back to the flat keyboard of the rMB12, it feels awkward. The keyboard on the new macbook pros are definitely superior to those found on earlier retina macbooks. Other than the good keyboard both the performance, screen quality and the battery longevity are the strong points for Apple's flagship laptop. I am getting around 8-9 hours on 40-50% sreen brightness. I have learned the hard way that the screen brightness is the ultimate battery killer, since I simply can not run the CPU more than 10% (even if I run multiple browser tabs and browsers, mail app and watch videos at the same time – although no rendering or cpu demanding tasks, watching video on browser or video conferencing were quite hard on the rMB12), if I run the screen with 90-100% brightness I get around 4-5 hours runtime. Since 50% is more than enough for a satisfactory screen experience, I will give this macbook 5 stars for Apple's engineering requirements of making the laptop lighter by putting a ~75% smaller battery than the older rMBP15, and the other 5 stars goes to intel's energy efficient but powerful 7th gen quad core cpu. To sum it up 2017 MBP15 is the way to go if do not have very strict backpack/carry on choices that pushes you towards MBP13. I am happy with both of my choices and will be upgrading when the time comes both MB12 as an always with me and MBP15 as the ultimate workhorse all round laptop. When I purchased this computer, it was under a different seller’s name, but this is the link from my purchase history, which seems to be my only option. If you purchase this device, do an online search to check any serial numbers on your device. The number on the bottom may not match the one in your Apple —> “About this Mac” section, which also apparently might not match the seller’s records. When you do your online search, make sure you received the correct year. There are multiple releases with the same model number spanning several years, so it’s easy for the seller to send an older one that looks just like a newer one. But serial numbers are specific, so make sure to check out your specs as soon as you receive your device! Also check right away whether there’s a firmware password, because you’ll have to pay to have it removed if you don’t have that password.Lisa

Battery was completely discharged and would not start up until I charged for a while. I don't understand why battery was dead and it is concerning that seller doesn't bother to charge them before shipping; this is hard on lithium batteries, and concerned me; not a good first impression. Battery has 5.5Ah capacity, or 83% of its original 6.6Ah capacity. I reinstalled OS from scratch via TimeMachine backup, even though it had a fresh install, for.security reasons. Battery has 750 Cycles on it, which is a bit high, and is probably why the Laptop runs very Hot, which is uncomfortable on my lap. Overall pleased; what more do you want for $240?Rosso

The newer M2 chip provides for faster access to memory and an option for 24GB of Ram. Slightly faster power adaptor which isn't much of an issue since I use Anker charging cords and products. All in all not much difference in performance but that'll vary depending on what you use it for. Photoshop is zippier, especially with larger files, but I have no way of quantifying that. I think Apple says the M2 is around 20% better than their M1 models and I'll just have to take their word for that. It is a nice machine and I have no complaints about it. I'd buy it again.Chuck
Battery is completely shot. I’ve had laptop for over a week and it has completely been unusable. As soon as I unplug it from 100% charge it dies within 10-15 minutes of SIMPLE use. By simple I mean SIMPLY being just powered on w/ no apps running. Checked “battery health” on laptop and it reads “normal” — but this is false. The battery is shot. I would appreciate a PARTIAL REFUND or NEW BATTERY to be send ASAP as I have a live performance I need to use the laptop for. 2300$ to buy a laptop that doesn’t hold a charge for more than 10minutes?! This laptop replaced my almost 10 year old MacBook Pro that I also purchased from B&H. My old one still works with the only upgrade being replacing the hard drive with an SSD and upgrading the memory. I just wanted a new laptop with all the newer upgrades and my old one wasn't supported anymore. So far, this laptop is incredible! I love the Touch Bar! I didn't think much about it when I ordered this, but I love it! I decided to get the upgraded M1 with 16gb and 1TB of storage to make sure I could keep this one for years as well. B&H are great! I was really excited to find a MacBook for this price. I had never owned one before, and it was going to really help me w/ my job & other daily things. I had been using it daily for a month, and all of the sudden, the screen stopped working,. This has appeared to be an issue with Best Buy pre-owned MacBooks, because I've since seen a few other reviews stating they had the SAME issue a month into ownership. I called Apple, and they stated this was an issue that would likely be costly to repair. I called Best Buy customer service & thankfully they are shipping another one to my house & allowing me to return the damaged one, no questions asked. This screen fault happened only 12 days before my return window expired. I'm lucky, because if this happened outside of the return window, I likely would not be issued a replacement. My advice – If you're planning to buy pre-owned, make sure you purchase some sort of warranty.kayle
5 stars for OWC!! Ordering, shipping was great. Computer is in fine condition, works well. The only problem is that it is supposed to be upgradable to the latest OS. Tried several times, get an error about not enough space for a firmware update. Contacted OWC they replied quickly, suggested a rest of PRAM, and SRAM. No luck with that. OWC said it seems to be an Apple SSD problem that theyre seeing on other computers too. I've been living with my 2015 MB Pro for quite a while now (it's June 2022). It was time for a serious replacement. I agonized over some of the new offerings for the desktop vs going all in on fully configured M1 after letting some of the newness play out with updates. I opted to stay with the portable rather than the new Studio. So far so good. This MacBook Pro has everything I will need for the next several years as a pro in the marketing and ad world. 64GB of RAM and 2TBs of fast local storage. I spend some serious time in a windows world too having many MS entrenched corporate clients, but Parallels takes care of helping me deal with all that MS Office stuff just as before. The only Adobe issue I'm having is that Bridge isn't yet ready for the M1 Max, but I'm told that an update is on its way and he rest of the Adobe catalog seems happy on the new platform. One thing that I am thrilled about is the graphic performance on the new notebook as well as the way it handles heat management. I decided to deal with a totally fresh clean install after all these years of migrating updates. The idea was to leave so much useless stuff behind and start anew. That turns out to be a lot of work! But, I am determined to try and stick with the plan to get the very best out of this new MacBook. There's very little to complain about tbh. I suppose if I had to moan about something it's about having to deal with the new port configuration and the need to get some pricey adapter cables for some simple stuff like by Backup drive and hardwire ethernet. Don't get me wrong, I love the new USB-C ports and performance, but I didn't think about the need to interface with basic usb-a, for example. So far, I cannot recommend this machine enough. And, I cannot recommend B&H Photo enough as a source. Their prices were as good as anybody out there and they actually had a variety of configurations that could ship immediately. Even Apple couldn't do that right now. The packaging was superb and the expedited shipping surpassed all expectations. I would do it all over again and change nothing. Hope this helps.Kenneth
I would consider myself a pretty advanced power user. This thing handles Adobe Photoshop and LightRoom like a boss! Very impressed with compile times inside Visual Studio. It breezed through modifying .stl files for my 3d printers in Halot Box and Lychee. Slicing time was also pretty solid. On top of everything else, it even played League of Legends at 190+ fps with the highest graphical settings. I am very happy with my decision to upgrade to the 10 core GPU for my needs, as well as the 512gb SSD. The upgraded SSD serves as a great platform for housing swap memory to aide the smaller amount of RAM. The portability of this machine is the most impressive part. With the lid closed it's about as thick as my iPad Air. For the size, and fan-less design, this thing is an absolute powerhouse with a battery that is the GOLD STANDARD! I bought the 16inch Macbook Pro (32GB, M1Pro) to replaced my aging 2016 MBP with the touch bar. Apple has brought back all the good things that I've been missing from the 2016 model. Mag Safe is back, The touch bar is gone (I never really used it). I like having the physical keys to control the sound, brightness etc… I like the bigger screen. I don't really notice the notch at the top of the screen especially with a dark background image. The screen looks fantastic and gets very bright. The speakers sound great. It is slightly heavier and thicker than my 2016 MBP, but once it's in my bag or sitting on my desk, I don't notice that. The only problem I have with this machine is the large track pad. I tend to rest my hand on the lower part of the trackpad and that has caused problems with unintended right clicks. I've adjusted the trackpad settings to stop this. This was also a problem on the 2016 MBP. The M1 Pro is fast and battery life is fantastic. I don't even carry the charger with me when going out for the day. At the end of the day a computer is just a tool. You have to ask Does this tool make my like better?. In this case it does. Good work Apple!Richard
