I have used the American Crew Fiber and Pomade. This product, the "Forming Cream" I would describe as the middle, the perfect balance. My hair is thick, somewhat coarse, yet soft. I wear my hair short, almost like a buzz and usually let it grow longer so that I can comb it over (by longer I'm talking 4-5 inches on the top, sometimes more). What I didn't like about Fiber is that it can be too clay like and usually made my hair too stiff. I found fiber to work best the shorter my hair was, but even then it was a super strong and stiff hold. It was actually working as intended, but not to my liking. What I didn't like about Pomade was the high shine and depending on how much used, greasy feel to my hair. I like this product. I've been using it for a while. It definitely has a good hold on your hair without making it look like there's anything in your hair. I would recommend maybe adding some natural ingredients to make it smell a little better, if possible. Also, I don't know who did the wrapping, but filling up the entire box with confetti paper for a small container of this cream pomade was not the move. This is my first foray into pomades, and I was braced for something between a hair oil and the crunchy gels of the 80s. I was pleasantly surprised to find Cremo delivered something far better. This pomade is a solid hold, especially when worked through do hair, and it holds for 24 hours, if not longer. I've been able to mist water on my hair and comb it back into place after sleeping for a second day's hold. It doesn't have a strong smell, which is great — nothing to compete with my aftershave and cologne. I have 3a/b curly hair, ringlets with big volume and I thought I'd never be able to wear my hair straight without using a straightener religiously. This is the first time my fiancé is trying a styling paste, he usually uses hair glue for his hair. He found that the product was easy to use and work into his hair. My hair is dead straight and would usually need a strong clay to hold my hair and even then it tends to loose its form. With the boost powder my hair stays exactly how I place it and I can style it how I want. I liked the styling clay but wanted a bit more hold. This pomade does that. It doesn't have as prominent of a mint smell as the clay, which is too bad, but it doesn't smell bad either (it smells basically like nothing). It dries more stiffly than the clay pomade and leaves the hair feeling like it has product in it (kind of hard and crackly to the touch). The clay pomade left my hair feeling softer and less like it had product in it. In an ideal world, I'd love a product halfway between these two, with the hold of the texturizing pomade and the other features of the clay pomade. But for now, this one does the job!Thomas L.

Much like American Crew's Fiber, this product is high hold and made for short hair (about 1-3 inches in length). It's one of my favorite products to use after haircuts when my hair is short. Molding Clay differs from the Fiber because it has a shine. It will give something closer to a "gel/wet" look, but without hardening and the product remains malleable so you can restyle throughout the day (hence a "greasy" feel as opposed to the "sticky" feel of the Fiber). If you have hair that's longer than about 3 inches, the product will likely feel too greasy (just as Fiber feels too sticky in longer hair). You gotta know your styling products – they're not made for a one-fits-all length/style. I've never had an issue washing it out. All American Crew products I've tried are water-based and wash out easily.
I've tried a number of American Crew products and this one just doesn't work for me. It has less hold than the pomade, in my opinion, and leaves my hair looking greasy to the point that it looks like I've worked out and didn't shower afterwards. Honestly, it works so poorly that I wonder if I somehow got a fake product instead of the real thing… The smell is nice though! It's got a pleasant minty scent that I find enjoyable.A

I just tried this out to style my old school crew cut. I find that it leaves my hair looking and feeling much more natural, smooth and shiny than the water based pomades. It's also really nice that it's reworkable throughout the day. Also, like everything suavecito makes…it smells amazing! Like everything in life, there are trade offs. As many have mentioned, this stuff does take a while to wash out even for me with a relatively short crew cut (about 1 to 1.5inches on top). I'd imagine the longer your hair, the more challenging it'd be to wash out.Tom
Amazing pomade my son has thick hair and I was first using the cremo pomade however after some months it was no longer holding his hair up and I searched for a new one and landed on this one. All I can say is that it’s AMAZING it hold his hair up in the style that he loves and leaves a shiny wet look on him if that’s what he wants if not he just combs it and the shine diminishes for a more natural look. I have been using this product for years (4-5 years). I have thick hair, and the strong hold was really the best. There is nothing "strong" about this product any longer, it has changed…why? It used to be thick and actually strong, not too shiny just perfect. Now it doesn't hold my thick hair in place, and just running your finger through the tub, you can tell it has changed, it's more like the original hold now. I have used the American Crew Fiber and Pomade. This product, the "Forming Cream" I would describe as the middle, the perfect balance. My hair is thick, somewhat coarse, yet soft. I wear my hair short, almost like a buzz and usually let it grow longer so that I can comb it over (by longer I'm talking 4-5 inches on the top, sometimes more). What I didn't like about Fiber is that it can be too clay like and usually made my hair too stiff. I found fiber to work best the shorter my hair was, but even then it was a super strong and stiff hold. It was actually working as intended, but not to my liking. What I didn't like about Pomade was the high shine and depending on how much used, greasy feel to my hair. And once again, you buy Pomade for the shine, so working as intended but not to my liking.dipen.p
Was looking for an alternative to Claymation and this did the job. Easy scoop and applies nicely with a good scent. Washes out easily which is a plus (maybe not so in the rain). The hold was decent but definitely not as strong as Claymation and wasn't as matte as I would like. Overall, I would consider purchasing again if my usual products were unavailable. They both like it because not much product is needed and it lasts all day, if you have pretty thick hair maybe use a little more product or you may have to apply it twice. I was really unsure how this would work for me and concerned that it would feel sticky or greasy on my hair, but I am very pleased with the results so far! I started with a very small amount and warmed it on my fingertips and gingerly began playing with my style. The fact that not much product is needed means you can expect it to last a long time. While the products remain on the “pricier” end of men’s hair products, it is for good reason. It's really easy to apply and style, and the matte finish is perfect for people who have wavy hair (the more shine you have on wavy hair, the more your hair just looks wet). Y’know, these hair products are varied and it takes time and trials to find just the right product for you. This product works great for me. My hair is very fine but very dense. By that I mean each hair is silky and fine but there are tons of them. The liquid version of this is good too but gives a firmer result. I often combine them a bit. A little, like dime-sized dollop works great on my relatively short haircut. Not very expensive and it works well for me. I hope it works the same for you!DC
I used to love this product and I've used it for years. Like another customer review on here, I also think the product has changed and for the worse, unfortunately. The other review was from the UK, but I'm in the USA and I'm seeing a change as well. I've tried two different retailers and both purchases had the same quality issues. It used to be more solid to the touch and now it is much more gooey. It doesn't hold my hairstyle nearly as well as it used to. I was debating between one or two stars but decided on 1 as I would not recommend this anymore and there are better fibers out there.Sean

This stuff has a pretty good hold with some flexibility. Basically a descent clay for short to medium length hair. It boasts natural ingredients which is a game changer for some folks who are balding or whatever and don’t want chemicals in your hair. Cons: Does not wash out without shampoo. I have to wash my hands like two or even three times with soap to get this stuff out of my hands so imagine how hard it is to get out of your hair. That can be a deal breaker for some people. I only use it on special occasions like weekends or going out. Overall: I wouldn’t recommend this product to people. To begin with, using only four ingredients in the Jack Henry Clay, whose properties, including organic MCT coconut oil in the new formula, is a big plus for me. Scooping out, you need to use the back of the thumb initially, but after a couple of rounds, it is no longer necessary. Emulsifying in the hands and applying to the hair is easy, with no issues regarding stickiness. Concerning the shine factor, it did lean more to a low shine with a medium hold on the first application. However, by the second day, I noticed that the shine factor was pure matte with a medium/strong hold. Also, my hair felt thicker with more luster as well. The washout was no effort at all. One to two rounds of shampoo did the trick for me. Overall, my hair looks and feels healthier with the continued use of this product. I believe this is due to the healing properties of the ingredients: organic coconut oil, bentonite clay, organic beeswax, and organic French lavender oil. These components do wonders for hair strength, growth, and quality. Two additional pluses are a mild scent, primarily small notes of lavender; and NO use of phenoxyethanol or other preservatives. With only four ingredients in the formulation, the old adage "less is more" truly applies! In conclusion, I will continue to use the Jack Henry Clay as it is, based on my experience with other products, the best hair clay currently on the market. It may be considered a little pricey, but you are paying for a high-quality product that lasts a while, so I encourage everyone if they can to give the Jack Henry Clay a try.Charles
While I usually keep a matte water based pomade alongside an beeswax based pomade like Reuzel, I'm excited to add a third option after using this Jack Henry hair clay. It's definitely very textured, as in you feel that clay / mineral vibe when you first warm it up in your palms before applying, and it def gives you that feeling of a product that's doing something positive to your hair both from a styling and hair care perspective, Even after rinsing your hands post application, my palms feel soft and slightly moisturized so bonus.
