(Humor) That is, if enough people give 5 stars, and the demand for said product goes up, the marketing department of the selling company could use that to increase the selling price, even though manufacturing costs did not increase. Seriously, thanks for a great air filter, and thanks to Walmart.com for providing AFB Filter Buy the platform to sell these on. I was looking for a superior air filter that would not cost what a 3M filtrete filter cost and do the same or better job. By researching MERV grades and HEPPA grades, looking at the MERV number makes more sense. It's like inches or centimeters. On that, hospitals, labs, and companies needing specific air qualities will use filters with a 13-16 merv rating. Houses with an A/C unit that can pull enough air to make them efficient can or will use 8-12. From 6-7 on down, these filters are for general use and are the most efficient for air flow, save the most on energy costs, but do dot collect the same small particles or filters with the higher MERV ratings. As for anything higher than 8, unless there are certain medical needs in the household, and the A/C unit/s can efficiently handle the air flow rate and not overheat and burn up, these are somewhat overkill. So, for regular household use with the best efficiency and particle removal tradeoff, stick to a 7-9 MERV rating. Filtrete usually has some of the better quality filters, but they are a premium cost. These filters from Filter Buy don't cost near as much. Also, this is a preference, these are not a full 1" thick as stated in the description. They are slimmer, making them easier to insert into the furnace bracket. And no, your furnace will not suck in particles through the small gap. Your furnace will immediately pull (suck) the filter up against the furnace coils for a tight fit when the furnace is on, so no particles get by. To date, these are the best filters I have used, and the price is really affordable; a bargain. The white body and provided space makes it easier for you to write and read the date installed as well. I can tell already in the time I have started using these that the air quality is much better while not overworking my furnace like the others. The cheap bargain filters were always clogging within a months time, causing the furnace to work harder to cool our 1500 sq/ft living space, raising our electric bill, and blowing particles back out. The filtretes did the same minus the excessive particle blowback at a much higher cost and only lasted about a month as well. This was my first time trying to purchase HVAC air filters online. I have a couple of commercial style air handlers in my home (the original owner was a builder) that use this 16x36x1 size filter, which I can't find locally. For years I have taken smaller filters and pieced them together. This takes a lot of time because you have to use a very heavy gauge scissor to cut through the aluminum grid in the filters. So when I decided to try buying this online, I thought I would save a lot of time getting the actual size. Instead, it was kind of a mistake. First, the filters arrived in a box where something sharp fell on it. 2 filters were dented and punctured, so the seller immediately sent me 2 replacement filters. It wasn't til I got the replacements that I tried installing them. Unfortunately, I discovered that the Accumulair filter size was about 1/4" too large in the 16" dimension. When I have pieced together other filters, the 16" dimension was no problem, so I feel that the Accumulair filters are a bit off, and the website warns you of this possibility. So I ended up having to cut down these filters to get them into the air handlers. This was harder than my old way, because I had to cut all the way down the 36" length, as opposed to just cutting a 16"x20" filter in half. oh well, live and learn. First one was put in (not by me), when I tried to put the next one in I found size discrepancy. while I had it out I looked down my ducts and had to vacuum what I could reach out. I bought these in order to get the jump on pollen season. I have springtime allergies and put up with sneezing and runny nose, etc when outside, but when I come in the house I want some relief. While I have not used these yet, I have compared them to the ones I have been using and the density of the filter tells me that they should live up to the description of removing dust and pollen. The trick seems to be to have the filter material thick enough to filter the unwanted particles, yet porous enough to keep the furnace from struggling to force the air through. While I can't yet vouch for their effectiveness as advertised, the potential seems to be there. For this reason, I have rated them "good" until they prove to be "excellent."moonpie125
I have researched furnace filter ratings and MERV 11 in this product is designed to catch a lot of the allergenic particles, so helps especially during the heavy pollen season, reduces stuffiness for those with allergies. Lower rated filters allow more particles, higher rated filters can cause a drag on air flow. After switching from a lower rated filter the snoring in our bedroom was noticably reduced. This particular product seems well made and performs as expected. The fit is correct. Compared to equivalent filters the price of this box of 6 filters is quite economical.
