20 Best Miele Vacuum For Hardwood Floors (Feb 2023 Update)

First of all, this vacuum arrived on or ahead of schedule and was packaged very well. I was looking for a lighter, smaller canister vac to replace a Kenmore which I was unable to get repaired after 12 years of good service. I was skittish about purchasing something other than a Kenmore, a brand I have used for appliance purchases for many years, but now they are going out of business. I decided this was the time for a smaller vacuum as I frequently use it upstairs and down. I really wanted to see the vac prior to purchase, but due to Covid and many stores not carrying canisters, I had no choice but to buy online. I was able to get the best price, compared to other retailers, by using my BB&B coupons and purchased the vac as well as the supply of bags and filters. I've had the vac for four months and love it! The suction is awesome, it is lightweight and easy to handle and carry up and down stairs – perfect for my situation. I just changed the bag today for the first time and it was very easy. I do wish the cord were just a bit longer and the control was in the handle, instead of on the vac, but these are not major issues for me. Overall, very happy with my purchase and love shopping at Bed Bath and Beyond!Patricia

My wife and I have had upright vacuums for the last 20 years and were having to replace them every 2-3 years. When it came time to yet again replace an upright because the plastic brush head broke, we looked into the Mieie canister line. Since we had only a couple of rugs , no carpets and mostly hardwood floors, we went with the Classic C1 Turbo Team. It is super quiet and powerful and it's nice to be able to dial down the power, in fact we have never used it on full power. It's also handy to have suction control on the straight wand part, this keeps the Turbo head from sticking on a super low Turkish type rug. Our only regret is not buying a Miele sooner and as an added perk, our dog doesn't bark at the canister like she did the uprights and is tolerating the low noise quite fine.Ron

I purchased this vacuum after reading hundreds of reviews, videos and questions to those I know that own one. I am in LOVE with it! It is one of the quietest vacuums I've ever owned! I have hardwood, area rugs and medium pile carpet in a couple rooms. It made the floors throughout the house pristinely clean! I literally vacuumed the kitchen (vinyl flooring). No more brooms and dust pans for me! My back is very thankful! I didn't get the model that is $100 less because of the carpets and I'm glad I did. I have a hardwood floor attachment and the turbo that I use on my carpets. This is cleaning HEAVEN! It makes things just SO much easier. The extending tube is great to grab any dust on the walls/ceiling and those little cobwebs that magically appear every darned spring! I have a dog who sheds and it got his hair up in the corners and carpet wonderfully! I know this isn't the pet grade one but I plan to upgrade the filter or bag or whatever because it picks up my boy's hair just fine! My sister has one and she uses hers to clean up crumbs and dry spills (salt, seasonings, whatever) from her counters and table! She loves not having the soggy mess to clean with a cloth! Excellent suction and really stylish looks. This vacuum is really thoughtfully designed. It is easy to get under furniture, to change the height of the handle, and to swap out the heads. The C3 Calima is a wonderful canister vacuum by Miele. I have used and owned many canisters from the German manufacturer, both in Germany and here in the US. The only disappointment was one made in the US who lasted only 3 years, as I had to replace the motor unit. Since then I made sure that I bought only vacuums made in Germany, or those that used German made parts. I bought the last vacuum 7 years ago, and it is still in top notch condition. I bought the Calima for a new vacation home. While I do not know, of course, much about the longtime reliability of the Calima, it performs superbly sofar.roger

Love this vacuum for my wood floors. I keep this one upstairs. It's compact, light and fits inside a small hall closet.It rolls safely and easily on the wood. The turbo brush works great on throw rugs. The Parquet twister brush is the best, it goes under the bed and other furniture like a breeze. I bought the extra furniture brush that I use on drapes, shades etc. The dust brush that came with it is too small to do much with it. This other brush was expensive, but does the trick. The cleaning radius the cord allows is great, and the retractable cord works very smoothly. I really love this vacuum.Flora

I have had this for over 12 months now and still works brilliantly! I upgraded from a Dyson v6 and the quality of the Miele absolutely outshines the flimsy Dyson! Even using newer Dyson models since the upgrade I feel confident that I made the right choice! I love that when the motor is in the bottom position it is able to stand on its own. No need to lean against the wall or bench, being how I often dropped the Dyson! It is also so easy to move around, other people complain that it’s heavy, but with the motor near the head it is much lighter and incredibly easy to manoeuvre. The design of the head gives it stability and direction, using a Dyson the head often flips around, but the Miele is much like using a standard vacuum, minus the bloody cord! Even with the motor at the bottom I can still get under the bed. It’s just a fabulous machine! My partner is even thrilled with it and often recommends it to people. Great suction, run time and functionality. No complaints from me, and will replace with the same or newer model when the time comes.Rachel23

Purchased this at local Best Buy on sale. It's certainly heavier than the average stick vacuum however, there are options as to how you can set it up: motor on the top or bottom. When the motor is on the bottom, the weight is less of a problem and in this setting, the vacuum can stand upright on its own. I've read reviews that it is loud however, I don't personally find that to be the case. The dirt this picks up is quite impressive. I have a Dyson stick and it doesn't compare to the Meile. I vacuumed carpets with the Dyson first, then again with the Meile. The Meile canister was almost full in 5 minutes. It picks up dirt and dust not visible to the naked eye and missed by the Dyson. Battery power is decent and based on professional reviews, the best on the market. On the lowest setting, Meile says you'll get 60 minutes. It takes about 4 hours to fully charge an empty battery. The dust canister is smallish, but I don't find this an issue as Melie uses a vortex to compact the dirt and dust. It is expensive but Melie says with good care, it'll last 20 years and it's made in Germany. So, you get what you pay for. I have a Meile canister vacuum and I fully believe this vacuum picks up more dirt than the canister. It's also very easy to reconfigure the vacuum to how you wish to use it. Also easy to empty the bin.SMack

PROS: I haven't seen a vacuum clean up hidden debris this well since my mother's Swedish canister vacuum of the 1960s, which my little brother used to gleefully ride (a no-no). I'm done buying other stick vacuums that cost $150, last only 12-18 months, and do poorly in the last few months. I'm done feeling grit under my feet even after a vacuuming. This Miele stick vacuum is effectively removing the fine dust that has accumulated in the grooves of my hardwood floors. It has cleaned my wool area rugs so well that the beautiful patterns and colors are now restored. The attached picture shows the fine dirt and residual hair (yes I have a dog) the Miele found less than 24 hours after the last vacuuming by the $150 stick. I love the quietness of the Miele as I am noise-sensitive and this doesn't whine like others. I love that this Miele does not make me tired and sore after a short vacuuming (1150 sf of hardwood, ceramic tile, and smaller area rugs). I have the canister on the lower portion and it creates little to no strain on my lower back or my shoulders ( I am tall and not 20 anymore). It has a low enough profile to get under a good portion of my sofas, beds, and other furniture. This Miele stick vacuum is easy to maneuver, even with my non-dominant hand. CONS: As many others have noted, it's a bugger to empty the basket. I have a little knowledge of the German language, but I doubt it would help, so I reserve my German for a few cuss words. Both of us have read the instructions multiple times, looked carefully at the back of the book diagrams repeatedly and we literally practiced together 4-5 times each on emptying and reassembling the basket and accompanying parts. He remains a bit wary as he doesn't want to man-handle and accidentally break it. It takes practice and lots of patience, steady but sure, to become comfortable with this process. But it is well worth the effort because this Miele stick vacuum is exceptionally good at clean-up. The only other CON is the price. Using my store coupon, I was able to save $100. If this Miele continues to perform well 3 years from now, I will at least break even in cost when compared to my previously purchased $150 sticks, and the cleaning results will be superior if current performance continues. How quiet is this vacuum? I'll tell you. When I first moved into my condo, I was stunned at how well I could hear the vacuums of my downstairs and next-door neighbors, which meant that they would also be disturbed by my noisy vacuum as well. But from upstairs, I never heard a vacuum; all I could hear was an occasional gentle swishing that sounded like somebody was using an old-fashioned carpet sweeper, which I thought was unlikely, as they had a dog who shed a lot. I later became friends with those neighbors and started swapping pet-sitting duties with them when either of us would go out of town. That was when I discovered that the reason I never heard a vacuum from up there was because they owned a Miele canister vacuum. I would often use that Miele to vacuum up their dog's hair so they could come home to clean floors after a long trip, and I came to love that almost silent and easily-maneuverable canister powerhouse. I envied them having that Miele, but at the time, I had only recently (and regretfully) purchased a noisy and annoying upright vacuum, so I couldn't justify investing in a Miele so soon after buying the upright. But it didn't take long for me to lose patience with my vacuum, failing to see the point in its HEPA filter when you have to empty the dust receptacle after every cleaning, which then releases a certain amount of dust right back into the environment. It may seem handy that those types of bagless vacuums have parts that can be dismantled, removed and washed, but the downside is that those parts HAVE to be thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis to maintain their efficacy, which is a dirty, dusty and annoying undertaking. So, I finally chucked the upright and treated myself to this Miele model, and I couldn't be happier. It provides an extremely effective clean and requires no more than removing and disposing of a filled bag and inserting a new bag. Worth every penny!Willabella1023

When I purchased this vacuum, it was the best, most powerful vacuum I have every owned. However, after having only used it 8-10 times, it broke. The floorbrush stopped working. I called Miele and was shocked when they refused to honor their manufacturer warranty because it was not purchased at a Miele store. When I called the Miele store in my area for advice about the vacuum they stated that Miele products do not work well if you have pets. (they even said the pet vacuum they sell does not handle fur either) I was surprised by this but appreciated their honesty. Long story short, if you have pets and/or carpet this is not the vacuum for you. If you think you might ever need help with a part or need the assistance of their customer service dept, this is not the company for you. I sent a complaint to the better business bureau about them and sadly, found myself in good company with numerous other complaints about them. The Better Business Bureau rates them an F. If you like using a canister vacuum or are thinking of getting rid of a heavy upright or other vacuum, then this is the one to purchase if it meets your cleaning needs. I've had other much more expensive Miele canister models in the past with more bells and whistles, but as far as suction goes, every Miele canister vacuum has the same motor. I found this particular Miele model was the lightest and smallest Miele canister vacuum I've used making it extremely easy to operate and store and pull out whenever I need it for even the smallest of messes. I've done a ton of research on many brands and many different Miele models before making this purchase. When choosing the correct Miele canister vacuum it is all about your home and your cleaning needs. This model is perfect for hardwood floors and low-pile to mid-pile carpeting/rugs and everything above the floor. I'm pleasantly surprised how well the air driven turbo carpet nozzle cleans and how easy and light it is to push around on area rugs and wall-to-wall carpeting. Although the turbo nozzle isn't as wide as an electric power nozzle or upright vacuum's cleaning path, the turbo nozzle also has a great benefit of allowing it to reach in tight places like between chairs under beds and in-between many tight places and furniture. I recommend opening the air flow valve on top of the turbo nozzle and setting the motor speed dial on the canister NOT to the highest level when using the turbo nozzle on carpets and rugs. I have a cat and with these settings, the turbo nozzle really does a great job of picking up dirt and cat hair on my carpets & rugs and with minimal pushing and pulling effort on my part. For bare floor cleaning, use the included bare floor tool with the motor speed dial on the canister to the highest level. I find this Miele canister vacuum model is extremely easy to operate and works well if you use the correct settings. It is true that an electric powered carpet nozzle offered on other higher-end more expensive Miele canisters might work better for certain jobs, but with low-pile and mid-pile carpets like the ones I have and living in a relatively small home, this model is perfect choice for us and cleans extremely well. Also keep in mind that Miele models with the electric power nozzle have much heavier hoses, heavier hose handles that are awkward for above the floor cleaning/dusting, heavier carpet nozzles, and heavier wands that make cleaning more difficult because of the weight (especially when cleaning above the floor or carrying the vacuum to multiple floors). You will not have weight issues with this model. The only cons I have for this model is that even though it is a lower-end Miele canister with less bells and whistles than other Miele canister models is that it is still a Miele and it is kind of expensive, however you do get what you pay for and that is quality I can feel with every use and hopefully this quality will last for years (I believe the motor has a 7 year warranty from Miele). Also, the cord could be longer, the bags could be bigger and less expensive (however, I would never go with a bagless vacuum again because of the mess and dust seeping back into the air. Miele bags are of the highest quality), and it would be nice if the tools had a place for storage inside the canister, but this might make the weight of the vacuum heavier so I can easily live without on-board tool storage. Overall, I've tried and owned many other types of vacuums including bagged and bagless uprights / canisters with and without electric power nozzles, stick vacuums, and a central vacuum that was built into a house I once owned. By far, this has been the lightest and easiest to use vacuum I've owned and it far exceeds all of my cleaning needs and the canister is totally sealed locking in all of the dust and allergens (A sealed Miele is really terrific if you have allergies or don't want dust to resettle on your furniture after cleaning). At one time all Miele vacuums were made and assembled in Germany and that always meant great quality. Although this model is assembled in China, parts and design are from Germany. If you have multiple pets, a large home, lots and lots of wall-to-wall carpeting, and carpeting that is shag or high-pile, then this Miele model may not be for you…Rusty B

I bought this vacuum to replace my old Shark. This one is more comfortable to use due to its long hose and 4-point swivel casters. Very easy to reach any spot under furniture. My house is a mixture of carpet, hard floors, and large rugs, and I was worried that it would be problematic to clean everything properly. But the suction is fantastic; I can use different settings of cleaning power to quickly clean the pet hair and dirt throughout the house. It's a bit heavy and problematic for the stairs, but due to the long hose, the problem can be resolved fast. The container is very easy to empty. Due to a large 11 m cleaning radius, you can clean large rooms easily. The short hairs that are usually embedded in fabrics are easily removed. Very impressed by the amount of fine dust captured. Also, it is very easy to store, and the on-board storage is great for keeping the dusting brush and upholstery, crevice, and flexible nozzles all in one place and within easy reach. I highly recommend this vacuum, it's very much worth its price tag.Laura

I am allergic to animal hair and our kids have a cat so i am very sensitive to an effective cleaning. The suction on this thing is incredible although the noise isn't that loud. It's not light, but probably no heavier than other similar sized cylinder vacuums and for the most part you won't need to carry it as it's on wheels, it's just stairs where you might need to. I can reach half way up my stairs just with the main pipe and half way down. You can tell it's superb quality and does the job. It is super easy to put together and very easy to empty, with a clear instruction booklet. It's also bagless and fascinating to see what you collect in the container. It uses a single cyclone system which seems to be far more effective than others. It has a great self clean mode to regularly clean out the dust filter too and keep the suction strong so every so often you're meant to take that part out and give it a rinse. With Miele you suspect a certain level of quality but in a saturated market it's still sometimes difficult to justify the cost of an item like this when others are supposed to be the best ones on the market. You soon realise the CX1 is worth every penny once you open the box. Every part of the vacuum cleaner design is well considered, every plastic piece has a quality feel and the fit and finish is excellent and the number of tools packaged meet all your needs. In use it's quiet compared to others and the suction is incredibly powerful and the vacuum unit stable – especially compared with a "drunk" Henry that seems to want to cling to everything and topple over. You can see the carpets lift as you move across them with the easy to hold hose and even just after using a Dyson or the Henry in the same space it still picks up a lot of dust that has been left by the others. My only criticism is that when doing a fantastic job of picking up long hair this quickly tangles around the brush and isn't the easiest to remove without tools / cutting. All in all a great product that's incredibly good at what it's designed to do.Michael

The cleaner itself is an excellent replacement for the monster cylinder vacuum we already had, which was too big to be stored anywhere in our fairly small house. I wanted a cleaner which would go under much of our furniture which sits 10cm above the floor, and which has been a no-go area for vacuum cleaners since time began. It's remarkable the way it scuttles under the furniture and meticulously cleans in the corners and around furniture legs. Our floors have never been cleaner. It's true that it can't do the stairs and it's hopeless at getting cobwebs from the ceiling(!) but I've bought a lightweight vacuum for those two areas. The remote control is good, but is very much line-of-sight. I wanted to put the docking point beneath some furniture but I had to kneel on the floor with the remote in order to control it! Then there's the app which is a disgrace to be associated with Miele. Simply getting it paired was a trial; after attempting over several days and a long phone call with Miele, they eventually suggested returning the vacuum to John Lewis, which I did. Surprisingly, since it's the same software, the replacement did successfully pair. But several emails to Miele and another long phone call still hasn't enabled me to tell it "where you want it to clean" (quote from the App Store). If only Miele put a little investment into sorting out this problem and linking the app to Alexa and Google Home, this would be a killer product. As it is, there are probably better products on the market for a similar price.daveoftruro

We have wooden floors throughout and this cleans very well. We have a part time springer also and a daily auto clean function picks pet hairs up really well. Positives,- saves hours vacuuming, good for hard floors, cleans for one hour, good coverage . Negatives- small dust compartment ( I empty after every 1-2 cleans), battery works harder on carpet ( we don't have much but I imagine this is where a lot more power would be used and runtime less). App is dreadful, rang technical support who couldn't get it to work either, eventually I switched it from iPad to iPhone and it now works fine.L Harper

Oh my goodness. I've been a housewife for nearly 30 years and I've spent countless hours vacuuming my home. I have never loved a vacuum before….EVER. This new Miele is a magnificent machine. First of all it's beautiful. It is designed so well. Every part clicks into place with such easy precision. Every part is very easily accessible and well made. The controls on the handles are genius. Pure genius. And performance?? WOW. Its quiet. There is NO smell or odor or dust when I vacuum!! I didn't realize all of these years how much my past vacuums put out dirt,dust,smells…YUCK! I'm 52 years old and I can vividly remember the smell that would come from our very expensive Kirby vacuum from my childhood. It always smelled like our dog….ewww! I'm so happy with my Miele that I have yet to put it away! I've used it everyday since it arrived and I love to just look at it! The retractable cord works seamlessly. The wand holders on the unit are fabulous. The power head brings tears to my eyes…..all of the choices for power level and height are wonderful. My home is 95% wood floors and we have many area rugs. I used to hate having to use different vacuums to clean either the wood floors or the rugs. Now my problem is solved. Instead of dreading vacuuming I'm delighted to plug in my miele!!!jewelrymama

It’s a transition for me to not see what I’ve picked up and wait for an indicator light to tell me when to change the bag, but I look forward to it! I previously had a bagless canister with another maker. The cord on this one practically gets me through my house. I was surprised how long it is. I was excited about the light, but it’s not what I expected because the light I needed was for the hard floors and it is only on the carpet attachment. Don’t get me wrong, as I love this vacuum! This is by far the very best vacuum I have ever owned and I suspect I will not have to buy another one again. The Uniq not only has strong suction, it also has suction control which allows me to fine tune the suction based on what I am cleaning. This vacuum is extremely quiet, so much so that I can use it in the early morning and not wake up my children. The bags are large and go a long way. Lots of finger tip controls and height adjustments for the big power head. It really does make my life easier when using this vacuum. I feel spoiled by my Miele UniQ but I am worth it.Elsa

It's very tough to get off and we have returned ours as a result. At 0.5 litres the dust container is also too small and it is not a "sealed" unit (as with the Dyson for example) and if you are hoovering anything particularly dusty, then it can go everywhere when emptying and trying to clean the container and hepa filter.Battery life could also be better. Suction is good but not great when using on setting 2, but on Max, the battery drains quickly. Without 2 batteries you could easily be charging often if wanting to use on the max setting all the time.Geoff

Pros: When used as a plain old vacuum cleaner for floors and carpets, it is absolutely brilliant. Great and adjustable suction, light, highly manouevrable, and a decent battery life. Cons: For anything EXCEPT the plain old vacuum cleaner, the design is heartbreakingly rubbish. It's fiddly to empty the bin and remove and clean the filter. It's incredibly difficult to decouple the motor section from the main upright section – you have to push a button quite hard and at the same time pull apart the two pieces (one of which is very difficult to get a grip on) at an inconvenient angle. And it doesn't work at all well with the attachments. The small brush is very poorly angled for cleaning things like skirting boards, and it's almost impossible to use the vacuum to clean anything above head height because the weight of the unit means it's very difficult to control. It feels as though Miele designed a great cordless motor and outsourced the rest of the design to a not very gifted GCSE Design & Technology class. A real disappointment.Maria

A little disappointed. Heavier than I thought, even with the barrel at the bottom and not easy to switch around the order of the components, takes quite a bit of strength. The suction is good, especially on high, but then the battery doesn’t last long, so definitely have to plan what you’re doing so you don’t run out mid job. Emptying the barrel a little bit of a fiddle and you have to be very mindful that you keep it well over the bin as a little bump or putting down a part will leave dust on the floor that you have just vacuumed. Hopefully you can suck it back up and your battery isn’t flat! Doesn’t suck up larger pieces on the floor well. Have to clean out the head regularly as things get twisted around it. Quality solid product, but perhaps not what I was expecting in functionality. The accessories are good but the time and strength to take apart and rearrange and attach not so great. I can’t imagine holding it up for long to suck up cobwebs in the cornices. I like the light at the front. Handy as a quick easy go to for light run over, or planned short purposeful bursts but sadly it won’t be replacing my Miele barrel plug in vacuum as I’d thought it would.Chasing simplicity mum

My husband and I are tall people, I absolutely love the fact that this canister vacuum has a long nozzle where I don't feel like I'm leaning over too much to vacuum the floor. It's very quiet, you can still have a conversation with it running. The turbo suction is no joke, be careful it'll eat your rug easily, learned there are different settings for the suction amount! Love that the floor head is much larger than the other leading brands. I also have allergies, so this HEPA filtration system is a a bonus to help keep our inside air clean. My only suggestion for future models is to have an option for on/off switch to be on the handle too. You always have to use the foot switch for operation, for older folks it's a long of bending down for operation. Overall so glad we invested the money to get this great vacuum!Faith D

Pros: Variable levels of suction for different surfaces. Easy to switch between hard floors and carpet. Telescopic nozzle length with swivel great to adapt for tall people and also totally amazing for hoovering under the sofa. Neat and tidy design with extra tools inside.Bag easy to replace. Pros: This is a great vacuum cleaner, I needed a replacement for my previous Vax cleaner – for hoovering out the garage and our cars. The VAX was great but after seven years it was falling apart. I have previously purchased some cheaper cyclone type hoovers which turned out to be useless. So I went for a Miele this time even though it is a bagged type vacuum cleaner, decision based on the quality of the brand and that Curry’s PC World were doing a really cheap deal on this model. It’s very powerful on maximum setting and it does a great cleaning job on the cars. The three wheels on the bottom make moving the vacuum cleaner around the garage easy. The cable return spring is really powerful, far better than any other hoover I’ve had. This cleaner is an all round high quality item. Cons: It’s a fantastic quality hoover and really powerful, however I find that the hose quite often can hit the on off button and that is enough to switch the device off. The button needs to be a little bit stiffer in operation I think.Colin

I am allergic to animal hair and our kids have a cat so i am very sensitive to an effective cleaning. The suction on this thing is incredible although the noise isn't that loud. It's not light, but probably no heavier than other similar sized cylinder vacuums and for the most part you won't need to carry it as it's on wheels, it's just stairs where you might need to. I can reach half way up my stairs just with the main pipe and half way down. You can tell it's superb quality and does the job. It is super easy to put together and very easy to empty, with a clear instruction booklet. It's also bagless and fascinating to see what you collect in the container. It uses a single cyclone system which seems to be far more effective than others. It has a great self clean mode to regularly clean out the dust filter too and keep the suction strong so every so often you're meant to take that part out and give it a rinse. With Miele you suspect a certain level of quality but in a saturated market it's still sometimes difficult to justify the cost of an item like this when others are supposed to be the best ones on the market. You soon realise the CX1 is worth every penny once you open the box. Every part of the vacuum cleaner design is well considered, every plastic piece has a quality feel and the fit and finish is excellent and the number of tools packaged meet all your needs. In use it's quiet compared to others and the suction is incredibly powerful and the vacuum unit stable – especially compared with a "drunk" Henry that seems to want to cling to everything and topple over. You can see the carpets lift as you move across them with the easy to hold hose and even just after using a Dyson or the Henry in the same space it still picks up a lot of dust that has been left by the others. My only criticism is that when doing a fantastic job of picking up long hair this quickly tangles around the brush and isn't the easiest to remove without tools / cutting. I was giving this product for free as part of the John Lewis Review Panel. This is a plug-in vacuum with an extendable hose and various attachments. The main head of the vacuum has 2 settings (hard floors or carpet) and then there are 4 suction settings on the vacuum itself. I have mainly used the maximum suction setting so far, and have been really impressed. I have an office-style rough rug as my door mat and this always collects so many little bits and the Miele cleaned it so much better than my cordless vacuum does. I usually have to go over and over the rug with my normal vacuum but this picked up everything in one swoop. I really liked the fact that it is bagless and the dirt compartment was extremely easy to empty. The vacuum moved really easily and did not get "jammed" like so many others do. The cord is retractable, which although only a small thing, makes it so much easier to get out and put away quickly. The vacuum is relatively compact but it does still need a sizeable area to store it. The same can be said of most vacuums though! At the end of the day, the main thing you want from a vacuum is excellent suction and this certainly has that! For the price point, it is excellent value and gets every last crumb and piece of dust up.CGill

We've had a Dyson cordless for about 7 years and its been a fantastic product but it is now showing its age. The battery isn't great and its almost falling apart. The Miele brand comes with some very high expectations and this didn't have many reviews, given how new it was but we took a punt. What an exceptional product this is and it blows our Dyson out of the water by a mile. It's light (5kg~) easy to manuever and all the accessories can be attached to the hose so that you don't have to leave them behind. Emptying the hoover is easy, you simply lift a lever and it unclips. There is a push button near the bottom so emptying it is easy. It comes with a standard filter, which is recommended that you change but you can order a HEPA one from the Miele website if you wish. There is also a small brush that you can use to clean the dust compartment and the one of the filters can be rinsed in water and left to dry. Excellent suction power with 4 different settings incuding a super quiet one, in case you want to vacuum at night. The accessories that it comes with are pretty standard on all vacuums and the main brush allows for hard floor and carpet. Overall, this is an exceptional product and I'm glad we purchased this instead of another Dyson. My only negative is that the cable isn't as long as it could be but it's fine for our house.K Mistry

We're really pleased with this hoover. We previously had a Dyson upright and we were hesitant to change as we didn't want to lose any suction power. Well, the Miele hasn't disappointed. The suction is greater than the Dyson and is fully adjustable for different flooring types. It's also much quieter, even on the high power setting. Also, the dust bin can be emptied without requiring much of a shake – the same can't be said for our Dyson. It's manoeuvrable and the suction head is slim for getting under furniture. There is a good selection of tools that conveniently fit to the top of the hose for ease of access. My only criticism is that it takes up quite a bit of space for storage and would be good if you could park it upright, however, overall the positives way outweigh that one negative. Great hoover, at a good price point, and with the build quality you expect from a company like Miele.MK1980

Works like a champ. I have hardwoods, rugs, carpet, and tile throughout current home and it switches seamlessly between all three without having to change the device. Has been a life saver with hardwood floors and no longer having to waste 45+minutes/day sweeping to only have a ton of doggo hair left behind- 20mins and all surfaces are clean af! This is the second Miele HEPA vacuum cleaner we have owned. This is a replacement for a 20 year old model that was working as new but was destroyed in hurricane Irma. This new model has the powered rotating head where the old one used the suction from the vacuum to power the head. That makes this new model more powerful for cleaning longer shag rugs. We never had anything but short pile until recently so the old one worked just fine for us then. The new model’s Head is heavier than the old model but moves relatively easy, if the height adjustment is set correctly. If it is set too low, the head pulls forward to much, as is expected. When adjusted correctly it works just perfectly.JP

Do yourself a favour, do not buy this or any other Miele vacuum cleaner. The plastic dust caniste broke on ours, and Miele is now quoting us $216 to send us a replacement. This is literally just a bunch of plastic—there are no electronics or mechanics there. And they want us to pay a third of the price of the whole machine for this stupid plastic canister. Do yourself a favour and buy a different brand. The top quality ones have lifetime warranties, and will end up costing you much less than a Miele in the long run!EMT from Sydney

I bought this 2 months ago. It is fantastic. The vacuum is so powerful, I only use the lowest setting and it is like a breeze. It takes half the effort and half the time and the job is done. It is a lot less noise than I expected. A good machine! The only down side is that it is heavy. Lucky it is easy to move around with wheels.Good

First of all it's beautiful. It is designed so well. Every part clicks into place with such easy precision. Every part is very easily accessible and well made. The controls on the handles are genius. Pure genius. And performance?? WOW. Its quiet. There is NO smell or odor or dust when I vacuum!! I didn't realize all of these years how much my past vacuums put out dirt,dust,smells…YUCK! I'm 52 years old and I can vividly remember the smell that would come from our very expensive Kirby vacuum from my childhood. It always smelled like our dog….ewww! I'm so happy with my Miele that I have yet to put it away! I've used it everyday since it arrived and I love to just look at it! The retractable cord works seamlessly. The wand holders on the unit are fabulous. The power head brings tears to my eyes…..all of the choices for power level and height are wonderful. My home is 95% wood floors and we have many area rugs. I used to hate having to use different vacuums to clean either the wood floors or the rugs. Now my problem is solved. Instead of dreading vacuuming I'm delighted to plug in my miele!!!jewelrymama

It’s a transition for me to not see what I’ve picked up and wait for an indicator light to tell me when to change the bag, but I look forward to it! I previously had a bagless canister with another maker. The cord on this one practically gets me through my house. I was surprised how long it is. I was excited about the light, but it’s not what I expected because the light I needed was for the hard floors and it is only on the carpet attachment. Don’t get me wrong, as I love this vacuum! The park feature is awesome and easy to carry the vacuum or roll it. Most of all, the customer service is beyond anything I have ever experienced! Top notch! Thank you!Nicole

The Uniq not only has strong suction, it also has suction control which allows me to fine tune the suction based on what I am cleaning. This vacuum is extremely quiet, so much so that I can use it in the early morning and not wake up my children. The bags are large and go a long way. Lots of finger tip controls and height adjustments for the big power head. It really does make my life easier when using this vacuum. I feel spoiled by my Miele UniQ but I am worth it.Elsa

My husband and I are tall people, I absolutely love the fact that this canister vacuum has a long nozzle where I don't feel like I'm leaning over too much to vacuum the floor. It's very quiet, you can still have a conversation with it running. The turbo suction is no joke, be careful it'll eat your rug easily, learned there are different settings for the suction amount! Love that the floor head is much larger than the other leading brands. I also have allergies, so this HEPA filtration system is a a bonus to help keep our inside air clean. My only suggestion for future models is to have an option for on/off switch to be on the handle too. You always have to use the foot switch for operation, for older folks it's a long of bending down for operation. Overall so glad we invested the money to get this great vacuum!Faith D

Pros: Variable levels of suction for different surfaces. Easy to switch between hard floors and carpet. Telescopic nozzle length with swivel great to adapt for tall people and also totally amazing for hoovering under the sofa. Neat and tidy design with extra tools inside.Bag easy to replace. Pros: This is a great vacuum cleaner, I needed a replacement for my previous Vax cleaner – for hoovering out the garage and our cars. The VAX was great but after seven years it was falling apart. I have previously purchased some cheaper cyclone type hoovers which turned out to be useless. So I went for a Miele this time even though it is a bagged type vacuum cleaner, decision based on the quality of the brand and that Curry’s PC World were doing a really cheap deal on this model. It’s very powerful on maximum setting and it does a great cleaning job on the cars. The three wheels on the bottom make moving the vacuum cleaner around the garage easy. The cable return spring is really powerful, far better than any other hoover I’ve had. This cleaner is an all round high quality item. Cons: It’s a fantastic quality hoover and really powerful, however I find that the hose quite often can hit the on off button and that is enough to switch the device off. The button needs to be a little bit stiffer in operation I think.Colin

The only issue I have is that one of the attachments, the slender one for narrow areas, is not long at all but only about 3". When I had central vac in my last house, the same attachment was about triple the length. I am much happier with this vacuum over my central system though. The horse hair main hardwood floor attachment really gets close to the edges of my woodwork and corners compared to the central vac. Also, no worries about the long hose wrapping around corners and chipping the wood as the Miele canister is so easily brought along for the ride. Also, I love having the attachments carried along in the unit itself because if I see something that needs one of them, it's right there!Fastidious

As lifetime dog lovers and having two or three at a time, my wife and I have always dealt with hair everywhere. This also means we've owned some of the best vacuums ever made. I have a medium/small house composed entirely of low pile carpet and hard tile. The biggest reason I went for this vacuum was the improved suction on hard surfaces, as I had a cheaper vacuum that would simply scatter dirt around. It definitely cleans both surfaces very thoroughly and makes cleaning the tile so much easier. I was also surprised at how quiet it is, not as loud as my old canister Bissel, even at maximum suction. One complaint I have is that the head can be difficult to push on carpet, I think it would be much easier with some wheels on the head.Max

All the good reviews are so TRUE. After many low quality vacs like the Dyson, etc, I finally got wise and bought a Miele. My first one I bought over 5 years ago and is still going strong like day 1. I bought a second one a few months ago (I'm a clean freak) and this one is equally fantastic. You just cannot beat Miele quality. I call her "Mia" because she's cute and follows you around like a little puppy. This baby could suck the grout out from between your tiles so you won't EVER worry about having enough suction. I bought this vacuum to replace my old Shark. This one is more comfortable to use due to its long hose and 4-point swivel casters. Very easy to reach any spot under furniture. My house is a mixture of carpet, hard floors, and large rugs, and I was worried that it would be problematic to clean everything properly. But the suction is fantastic; I can use different settings of cleaning power to quickly clean the pet hair and dirt throughout the house. It's a bit heavy and problematic for the stairs, but due to the long hose, the problem can be resolved fast. The container is very easy to empty. Due to a large 11 m cleaning radius, you can clean large rooms easily. The short hairs that are usually embedded in fabrics are easily removed. Very impressed by the amount of fine dust captured. Also, it is very easy to store, and the on-board storage is great for keeping the dusting brush and upholstery, crevice, and flexible nozzles all in one place and within easy reach. I highly recommend this vacuum, it's very much worth its price tag.Laura
