20 Best Mig Welder For Home Use (Feb 2023 Update)

I bought this because I had a lot of welding to do on a very big project and I did not want to use my stick welder and keep replacing the sticks! I also wanted better penetration that my stick welder did. At first I was very disappointed and I was about to return it to the TSC Store that I bought it from! There was a big orange piece of paper that said to call Hobart welder help. I decided to do that. After reviewing with the tech / welder he gave me great advice. I even called back a second time. Between the two calls we were able to identify a few small issues, mainly that I should grind where I am putting my ground clamp so I got a better circuit and to make sure my work was very clean so I got the best possible circuit again! This did the trick! Actually it was so easy to weld with when I had a good connection I couldn't believe it. So much better than my stick welder and the gas exchange on my cylinder at TSC was amazing! I looked at a lot of welders on line and read a bunch of reviews. There are a lot of very good welders out there. Some had a lot of computer screens and readouts but that in itself kind of scared me away because I am not a smart enough welder to figure out how to read the information. If I did this full time it would be one thing, but to use it occasionally I didn't want it too complicated. I can turn up the speed of the feed and the amperage of the weld. That in my opinion is all I need. Very happy with the results!Fyrchef

I have owned the 140 Handler for the past 5 years but decided to upgrade for the greater weld capacity and service intervals. First of all Cyberweld were fantastic sellers with excellent communication and fast shipping. Could not be more impressed!!!. Now the welder itself really is superior to the 140 (no surprise there) with deeper welds, faster wire feeds and a real pleasure to use. I could not help but notice that the feed roller was heavier duty and worked really well. The Gas regulator was also noticeably a better quality than the Handler 140. The only negatives I have found is that the gun could have been increased in length (it is still the 10ft) and the worst negative is the cheap and nasty earth clamp which is literally made of tin and a thin earth wire — I replaced mine immediately with a heavy duty copper variety — Hobart really should supply this with a decent earth clamp – penny wise pound foolish. Overall I would highly recommend this Hobart 210 to a beginner, farmer, DIY user or anybody that wants an all around quality welder that comfortably will weld from 16g to 3/8 steel in a single pass.Douglas L.

Great little mig welder. I needed something portable that I could run from a Honda 2000 generator. It works great. I've only had it a few weeks now, but have put it through its paces. It'll weld thin body panels and up to 5/16" material, but that seems to be its limit. I haven't used it with gas yet. Flux core wire without shielding gas has produced good results on a variety of material thicknesses so far. I'm pretty happy with it.Peters Family Farm

I bought this welder on the recommendation of a friend and a good bit of research. I love it. I am a brand new newbie with welding so I don’t have any other machine experience except some stick welding years ago. I bought an old tractor and some of the implements need patching up. I am getting ok at fixing things. Forney support has been very good. I have called them twice and I got a real person on the second ring both times. I was amazed. Maybe some day I will want a gas MIG machine but for now I’m loving flux core.Fishgrouse

I really like this welder. After borrowing a friends Ironton 125, I decided that I should have my own. I wanted a welder with a DC inverter for smoother arc and the ability to power with a generator. I considered the Titanium 125 from HF, but chose the Forney 140 FC-i for several reasons. 1. It can handle a 10lb spool. 2. The leads are 8ft long. 2ft longer than most in this class of welder. I have appreciated the extra length several times. 3. Build quality looks a little better. The wire feed looks similar on all of these welders, but the Forney has better cables and gun. 4. Forney has customer support in the US. Forney says that this welder only works with 0.030 wire. That is what i use, but you could run 0.035. The drive roller has grooves for both wire sizes, so you would just need to get a 0.035 contact tip. I have had great luck with Lincoln NR-211 MP and Hobart Fabshield 21b. The Lincoln has less spatter that is easier to clean up, but the Hobart has a little bit smoother welds. Both are fine. The edge goes to Hobart, because it come in 2 lb spools.David TN

Good welder For the price, takes a little time to get use to it. From my lincoln 100pak welder. Only thing that could be better is a faster wire feed speed,but welds great once you get use to it and fins the right setting. Used it for sheet metal (auto body repair) and frame repair. This as a great welder I upgraded to this from a basic harbor freight unit. I'm not a professional welder but I am a retired auto tech with 29 years and I will say lincoln welders are the best of both worlds they do a professional job and they are very forgiving to amateurs learning. Make sure you get yourself a tank of shielding gas so you can use the full potential of this unit.Brian

Upgraded to this setup because I wanted a cover gas. Welder worked great right out of the box using the flux core wire and worked even better after adding the cover gas and solid wire. Worth it.M.B.

I had bought this machine for minor jobs because of its 120v. The first day I used it I was very impressed on its performance I've used it with gas and gasless wire and it welds great. From that day on I've been using it as my daily machine on the field. If your a professional welder or a average person this is the welder for you I highly recommend.H.E.D.C.

Great looking welder. I have not been able to use it yet though. As one person wrote in their review, the instructions are vague and only state the power rates for all of the models they make, but no instructions on what does what or how to assemble the different components. Admittingly I am a newbie to welding. And I'm waiting for the money to buy argon, Co2 or helium to start learning how to TIG weld. I found out that a 60 Cubic foot bottle of argon costs around $450.00 and that was a big hurdle. One other thing is, the TIG welding gun does not come with any tungsten welding points. Sorry for not giving a good review. I should have researched better before I bought it. I will start wire MIG welding here real soon. Do yourself a big favor before you buy any welder, do your research and get to know the task beforehand.Paul

The Good – This little welder is light, easily transportable, runs off a 25ft outdoor extension cord and welds with flux core wire or 6011 rod without any problems. I've welded holes in sheet metal fenders, welded on both 1/8" brackets and 1/4" inch brackets and also welded 2.5" pipe. It comes with the wire feed gun, a stick welding stinger and a TIG torch. The polarity of all the welding methods is easily changed. I haven't tried the TIG since I don't have any shielding gas. It comes with a roll of low quality flux core wire and while you can weld with that you'll be happier with Lincoln or Hobart wire. The Bad – Instructions are almost non existent as the manual that came with mine is for different models. There is no settings chart, so you're on your own with getting it set up and in the ballpark (Hint – the readout is for amps, so set that to roughly what you'd use for 3/32" or 1/8" rod and set the voltage to the same rotational position and you'll be in the right zip code). The welding glasses are garbage, use a decent welding hood if you value your vision. I've got a lot done with this little welder and quite frankly if it came with a real manual and settings chart I'd give it 5 stars. Others have said theirs wasn't packed well, but mine was.Chuck

I have welded with all the functions on this machine except tig. I have a dedicated machine for that. Its plenty enough for the hobby or home user. The arch is very stable and smooth. I have ran it on 110 and 220 and its very easy to swap back and forth with the included adaptors. Don't be afraid to crank that wire speed up and that amperage down as it seems to burn a little to hot for the recommended settings on my machine. I have welded with Millers and Lincolns for years and can say this machine seems just as stable as any other in all processes.Jameyluck

Great multiprocess welder. Very similar to the Miller Multimatic 220. Even though it's a small unit, it has enought output for large jobs. Runs off my 8000 watt generator very well. This is a steal for the price.Garrett777

Although I love the new welder they have some number units shipped with the display connector disconnected. At the instruction of the very friendly tech I choose the option to open it check the connection and correct. 5 minutes and all was good. Great little welder. It has a short lead to the welding gun but is easy to pick up and move around with one hand. I also switched out for a better ground clamp which was recommended online. I use it with a thick extension cord and regular household outlet and haven’t tripped a fuse yet. I got it for thin walled steel tube such as table legs, and for tack welding larger projects which I have then stick welded. Bare bones with no welding wire or any extras, which is perfectly reasonable for this price. I think it’s only available online.Splash

I am a welder by trade as a mechanic where I work. I bought this unit and used it in my shop where I make custom metal work on my days off. Here is my honest opinion of the Lincoln. For $325 it is a good deal, but for heavy welding or for long periods of welding time it will overheat and you will be waiting for it to cool down. The flux core is decent to weld with, I did most of my welding with gas and it was clean, could be better penetration but you have to remember it is only a 110 welder so it is only going to do so much. The regulator does not come with a gauge so you do not know how much is left in your bottle or how much is coming out, I ended up buying one with a gauge on another website. If you are doing small jobs like lawnmowers, 1/16" and 1/8" metal it will work, but after a while you will figure out what it actually can do. I ended up selling it and buying a Miller 211. The shield that comes with it is more like a toy in my opinion and the plastic used on the tension wheel to hold down the wire is cheap. But I will say, it never broke down for the year I used it.L.S.

Awesome! So, I'm a cabinet maker. A buddy of mine is a certified structural welder, great welder, owns a huge Miller. He found it shameful that I don't know how to weld. He said, "its great to be able to fix stuff around the house". For the money he said this is a great welder, it's all about the electronics. Then he said, "could you stop by latter and fix one of my cabinet doors? Lmao I enclosed some pics. It's a piece of 1/4" plate from Home Depot. I sepperated the pieces a 1/32", and beveled the edge for better penetration. I flap sanded with a grinder and cleaned the steel with acetone. I also put on a 100% solid copper ground clamp. Im new at this so the weld is kinda ugly. It's ok. I then put the piece on an anvil and beat the living sh__ out of it with a 12lb sledge. I'll be keeping this welder. 🙂 hope this helps.J.W.

Haven't mastered the machine with nice beads yet but in time as I weld more feel it will happen. Had a couple adjustments which was able to figure out and really like this welder for the price ….I am sure the more I spend the better the welder would be but this one will do what I need to get done ..small around the house and body work type jobs. Did have the trigger stick which feed the wire out non stop and had to take the gun apart but it fixed itself it seems and works fine at this point. Very happy with the product at this time . thanksr.h.

This is a great little welder for some light welding, I haven't had too long, but its been great in that short amount of time. It welds great, though it has a couple shortcomings that but the crap out of me. 1. The ground clamp is straight up despicable Chinese garbage. It literally bends in my hand when i squeeze it. 2. When i hit the button on the torch it has a delay before it throws the arc. When spotting in sheet metal that is just annoying. 3. When you let off of the torch the gas continues to run for a second. This is not such a big deal and there might be a reason behind this but i have not seen this before. Other that these things the welder welds amazing and has great penetration up to and beyond the 5/16 rated thickness.a70camaroman

Rarely am i ever compelled to write a review but for this little welder I figured I would toss one in. I have been a professional welder in the piping industry for over 20 years and I bought this welder to replace a lincoln sp175 plus that went out on me that I use at the house for stuff around the garage. Very nice smooth running machine, no problem welding with .030 wire and would run .035 just as easy. The trigger hold is an option you usually only see on big expensive machines so that is a nice added feature as well as the tacking feature that I have yet to use as I am building a 59 Apache for my wife. This is an excellent welder for both beginners and advance welders I bought the machine to add to my welding machine inventory. I teach beginning welding out of my home shop. I have two beginning adult welding students watch the Eastwood set up video and then gave them my new machine to set up and use. The class is two hours long. They had the machine unboxed and welding in an hour, with no help from me. They both welded with good results. I took over to show better welding technic. after they left I spent an hour playing with the spool gun and was able to complete three projects that I was going to TIG weld the next day. If your impatient, like me, you can skip to the last paragraph, where I will wrap up my review. ;-D I purchased this welder because I had a lot of work to do on a 1996 S10 that I foolishly purchased, and I had never MIG welded before. I wanted a welder that I knew was quality, so that if there were any problems I would know that they were caused by me and not a cheap welder (like those HF welders…you know the ones I mean ;-D). I have welded the front passenger-side bumper bracket back on; fabricated the drivers-side floor pan, from scratch; repaired the passenger-side foot well, again from scratch; replaced the passenger-side rocker panel; and, I still have the drivers-side rocker panel and both cab corners to replace. I had to fabricate the floor pans because, to my knowledge, nobody offers floor pans for this body style of S10 (at least, I couldn't find any and I looked pretty hard too). If I had paid a body shop to do this work, it would have cost me many times the price I paid for the truck and the welder. The Handler 190 has been more than I needed in a welder, and I am sure that I haven't come close to pushing the limits of the machine. There IS one thing that I don't like about the welder, though. Because you don't have an infinite setting on the amperage, it can be difficult to weld on thin sheet metal. I am sure part of this is my lack of skill and part is due to the thinner metal that I am trying to weld (it has rusted through, and I had to use a wire cup wheel to clean it up, but the rust 'thinned' the metal so it is even thinner than it would normally be). Because I am not a skilled welder, I have suffered from the dreaded burn through. When using thicker metals, I haven't had any problems with the amperage settings on the machine at all, so it may just be the rust-thinned metal that is causing all of my problems (aside from the fool operating the welder, of course). I have included some pictures of the S10 project that this welder was purchased for. I know that my welds are ugly, but they are solid (at least, they are much stronger than the rusty holes that existed before). I have applied seam sealer to the seams and proper rubberized undercarriage to the bottom, to make sure that the rust stays away. In one of the images, I show the results of a destructive test that I performed using a commonly available material (I won't list it here, because I don't know about T.S.C.'s rules on such things, but if you watch videos on "welding tips and tricks" on YouTube you can find out the material). This destructive test is a great way to gain confidence in the weld beads that the machine is creating. It shows the depth of penetration achieved with a given setting. In closing, I would like to say that this welder has met, and exceeded, my expectations. I was hesitant to purchase a welder at this price range, because I was concerned that once I had finished my initial project that it would just sit there. I currently have a list of over 17 different projects that I plan to do (not counting the S10), many of which involve welding aluminum. I am sure that this welder is up to all these tasks and more. And, I am sure that it will pay for itself many, many times over by the end of these projects alone. The lack of an infinite dial for amperage is the only thing that limits this welder, and I am sure that a skilled welder would know some tricks to work around this. It isn't for a professional welder, but for a hobbyist/beginner I couldn't find a better welder anywhere, at any price close to what I paid for the Handler 190 from Tractor Supply. The big company units had many bells and whistles and came with a price that doubled this unit. I do small auto repairs, heavy equipment repairs and craft welding for horse stalls. Does exactly what I need and priced to sell. All the accessories are in store such as wire, tips and even a small bottle. Instructions are easy to use and a chart on inside explains what setting to use for various metal thickness. 2 friends have used mine and now purchased their own.James Slim Hoss

Machine works great, only issue is the fan vibrates quite a bit to the point of making stuff rattle. Now I have to drive over an hour to drop it off to my nearest repair shop. Not cool for the price and the reputation of miller. My Everlast had zero problems at a fraction of the cost.Armando P.

The 141 is a top of the line 110 volt welder. I have used 3 other 110 welders and the miller is by far the best. The Auto set feature takes all the guess work out of welding different thickness metals and I found it to be spot on for the metals I welded. 5 stars MillerRoss S.

I acquired the MM-141 for relatively light fabrication work in a small shop, and it's been a real champ. The only open circuit we have for this unit is a 20 amp, so our previous 110 welder had trouble maintaining a steady arc and tripped the breaker all the time. The 141 on the other hand has been perfect from day one; the arc is strong and steady. The build quality is also much better than previous gen MMs, such as the 135 or 140. We took it out of the box, hooked up the gas, loaded the wire, plugged it in, and bam: perfect weld. Didn't even need to dial it in.Pete

Very versatile unit in a compact package. Package deal is a great value. Does not include the dual cylinder conversion kit for the rack, which I purchased at the same time. Set up videos on the Miller website help fill in the gaps in the instruction book.Delmar V.

I have three red machines before multi-process became more refined. AC TIC, DC TIG, MIG. I do zero aluminum so I wanted to give this a try, the price and weight and multi voltage of the Miller made me give it a try over the red multi-process. I was skeptical of the auto-set but was really impressed not having to go back and forth. I just did a pool solar project with 300 feet of steel racks and I just set it and forget it and knocking out 200+ welds just seemed easier and the machine made up for my fatique and getting lazy with stick out and travel directions and angles. Made me move less and more comfortable which to me makes it worth the money! The 211 inverter has not excelled over the old transformer. This 215 makes up for that and then some! 200 amp, 39 pounds? Just buy it, no regrets.David P.

Have only had this a short period of time. I've used it do MIG steel with the supplied gun and aluminum with the Spoolmate 150. It runs great off 120v. Burned 030 ER70S. Much better than the Multimatic 200 on 120v. The arc feels hot and steady with a better duty cycle. Haven't tried the Spoolmate on 120v yet. Autoset works pretty good. The MIG gun is small and flimsy feeling. TIG would be nice if it came with HF start and pulse control. But I don't really do field TIG so meh. I haven't used this for SMAW yet. I will probably buy 25/50mm DINSE adapters($8 here on cyberweld) so I can use my better stinger and ground leads. Really wish they just threw in slightly longer leads. Definitely a good machine for light repair/fab work in the field. Something you can easily drag out to a site and make money with. Sucks you can't simply spend an extra $150 to get an upgraded gun. Rather you have to get a $280 M25 gun, and you're still stuck with the $130 cheapo M100. Actually ditto for all the attachments. Just keep all that junk and sell the core machine for $200 less. Anyways yeah, still giving it 4 stars. Taking 1 star off for the junk attachments. Did I mention those at all?Kodo

I bought this roughly 2 years ago while on sale. I’ve since used it on everything from autobody sheet metal to bar stock. I used to have a 110 welder, but stepped up to a 220v and will never look back. Gas bottles are expensive to rent, so I just bought 2 bottles outright and now only have to pay for the refills. I also bought a spool gun for it. This unit is prewired for a spool gun and it works great on aluminum! If you’re a serious “diy-er”, this is a great option for you. Lots of power and easy to use. A little practice and this lincoln 180 will lay down great beads.F150

I researched MIG welders for a few weeks and had narrowed it down to the Millermatic 211, the Lincoln Power MIG 180 and the Lincoln Weldpac 180. Based on the research, I knew I needed a 220V welder. While the Miller was an amazing welder, I could not see spending $1,200. I then compared the Weldpac to the Power MIG. The units are very similar. The only real difference I could see was the Power MIG had a variable dial for power versus the specific set points on the Weldpac. There is also a bit more plastic on the Weldpac than the Power MIG. I was able to buy the Weldpac for about $325 less than the Power MIG so thought that was a fair trade off. I have about 4 hours of welding on the Weldpac and it has performed flawlessly. Most of the welding has been on lighter sheet metal, doing patch panels on a car I am restoring. I did have a bit of a problem setting up the unit, but that was clearly my issue. I could not get the gas to flow through to the gun. After going through the whole set up, I had not seated the gun cable firmly into the unit. Once I corrected this operator error, I had very smooth welds. Time will tell if how well it holds up, but I am optimistic. A friend has the Weldpac 155, no longer made, and he has had no problems over the past 6 years of near daily use.lmboise

Picked the MIG 140 up yesterday and it was the last one on the shelf. The cashier looked in back, but the "take one" ticket she used wasn't for this Mig Welder {they were closing and she was in a flustered hurry}. I checked the SCU, and the box on the floor was the correct welder. When I got home I took pictures as I opened the box and it looks like "most" of it was there. The two things I found missing right away were the 2 rolls of welding wire {one mig and one flux}. I'm unsure about contacting the store, but the two rolls of welding wire are a good size chunk of the price for this weather. We have yet to fire the welder up and use it {there's a storm today}. Putting it together isn't too bad, everything is solidly built and metal. Other than mine coming in an open box and missing $40 worth of wire, it's a quality welder hitting above its cost.Justin

I like the size and weight of it – makes it easy to transport/move around. The digital readouts make it easier to fine tune your settings. The MIG hose is kind of stiff so you must be careful not to kink it as it would probably break. Its a good looking machine. I am a self taught (and still learning) hobbiest. I've owned it about four months now, having moved up from the Titanium Flux 125. I had trouble making good welds on the 125 and wanted to move up to MIG welding. To me the difference is amazing, the 140 welds smoothly and using shielding gas, I don't have the messy spatter of flux welding. My welds are clean and have good penetration. I would recommend this machine to the hobbiest/homeower without hesitation. I have not had one bit of trouble with this machine, but recommend buying the extended warranty for it. (One day my Flux 125 burned up when I turned it on- Harbor Freight simply gave me a new one. A word of advice to those wanting to move to MIG welding. The gas cylinders are expensived to purchase. I wouldn't buy one intially but suggest you wait and see how you like MIG welding and if you decide that MIG is your ticket, then consider buying one. I leased a small (40 cu. ft.) cylinder for about $100 for a year. Cylinder exchanges for 75%/25% (argon/CO2) gas cost me about $45. The 40 cu ft tank is about right for the amount of welding that I do and the size of the cylinder makes it easy to transport with the welder.Phillip

I bought this welder in October 2021 but didn't get to use it until March 2022. I inherited my grandfather's Rototiller that needed the belt guard fixed. I tried the flux core wire first and found it hard to get the settings that would allow me to weld. I switched to solid wire with 25% Co2/ 75 % Argon gas. The welding worked much better and I was able to dial in the feed speed I needed to weld correctly. I haven't welded since I learned how to in college over 40 years ago. Once I got the wire feed speed correct I was welding great with no splatter and no warped parts either. Now that I have some experience with it I'm going to try the flux core again. I'm sure the problem I had was the wire feed speed set too high for the steel thickness I was welding. For the money I think this is a great welder. It's light making it portable and easy to set up and use if you follow the instructions. When I purchased the welding gas I also purchased a small tub of Weldcote Metals Nosil Gel that you dip the welding tip into before welding. It makes keeping the welding tip clean and free of slag. The slag build up happens pretty quickly and will fowl the weld tip.RCTinker
