Zero stars. Do not buy. Made the mistake of thinking it might be better to get a cable modem and router in one, especially made the mistake of getting this Netgear C6250 pure garbage of a product. Wasted two hours of time, one hour with Xfinity tech support doing resets, then another hour with Netgear support with a tech support agent who had a noisy child and family in the background, finally for the agent to conclude after three reset attempts that this device is defective. Brand new out of a sealed box. Issue was a molasses slow download speed, this wasn’t an issue with the previous setup of a different (separate) modem and separate wifi router. Another issue was the 5Ghz SSID would not show despite checking broadcast settings being ON. Never touching a Netgear product again.Stag97

I set up my NETGEAR AC1600 Cable Modem Router to replace my Xfinity rental router. I am not a “TechGeek”, and it only required a single cable and power cord swap out. Then a simple call to my internet provider and I was back online. From there it was easy to get my WiFi Thermostat and WiFi sprinkler system connected. I would highly recommend the NETGEAR AC1600 Cable Modem Router without hesitation. The equipment is great, but the setup for this device was kind of a horror show. The biggest problem was that the app you need to set it up (and referenced in the included documents) isn't actually compatible (per my conversation with their tech support), and made the whole installation process more aggravating than necessary. Thankfully, this wasn't my first rodeo, so I got it set up and working and honestly I really love not having to use separate devices for both modem and router. I have had this modem for several months and it has turned into a dismal failure. I made the mistake of thinking that 4 ethernet ports meant you could connect up to 4 devices. Wrong. This unit does play well with the Netgear R8500 router. When ever there is a power failure, you must reboot each device again separately to establish communications again. Never got good troubleshooting assistance from Netgear on this issue. Now it does not want to lock in to the Xfinity network. I have had multiple visits from Xfinity technicians to help with trying to resolve the issue. Still working on it. Did not want to believe one of the recommendations would be to replace this modem. Starting to rethink that and beginning to research other manufacturers for a device that will provide 1.2 Gbps connection as this unit will not provide over 1 gig. Still haven't been able to determine how to set up port aggregation to a router and I know not to count on Netgear support. You have to dig into the literature to determine that the 4 ethernet ports are bonded. They should allow you to give a Zero rating to accurately reflect the value you get from this product.Bubba2021

Replaced existing modem. Netgear makes setup easy. Within minutes modem was online. Connected netgear router and extender. Finally have whole house wifi and can now go outside and use internet. It also gives a steady signal to my ring cam floodlight which old modem did not. I watched a lot you tube videos and stressed over which one to get. Modem cm1200, router rax120. I bought the netgear extender previously for my old modem. Without extender I have total coverage. My daughter was able to connect in our neighbors front yard. My theory is if you are going to buy then get more than you think you need, better to have too much coverage than not enoughBish

Finally decided to upgrade my internet speed and i needed to replace the Arris cable modem that had provided over 8 years of faithful service. Upon the recommendation of the Spectrum cable tech, i purchased a Netgear cable modem. First time using a Netgear product. I heard many good things over the years, but never felt the need to purchase any of their products since ive had no issues with Arris, Motorola, and Linksys devices. Took Spectrum a few moments after receiving the mac address to have my new Netgear up and running. So far, no complaints. My connection is strong and steady. Im using this modem to power my Linksys Mesh network using wifi6. At any given moment, there are at least 40+ devices with 2 tvs constantly streaming in 4k. The Netgear and Linksys are both working great. As of right now, i would definitely recommend this model. If you're a Spectrum customer who doesn't want to pay rental fees for their cable modem (which is actually pretty good), make things easier on yourself and buy a Netgear. It is highly recommended by their repair techs and customer service reps. Now if this modem dies in the next few days, weeks, or months, i will make a follow-up post detailing what happened.Troy

I always wanted to own my own router instead of rent one from the cable/internet company. This was my first choice and experience in doing so. I would highly recommend it. I have multiple devices, both hardwired and wireless, connected to the router at once; it has never failed. I been using it for about 2 years now and I have never even had to reboot it for any issues. I cannot recommend this router enough. HOWEVER, I would check that the router is compatible with the internet service provider you are using, there should be information out there that confirms which models are compatible. Replaced an older Motorola with this one. The AC1900 is significantly faster and stronger within my home. The older modem was still working 100% but a "glitch" in my network provider's wiring made it appear to be failed. I decided to keep this newer one because of the more robust WIFI. We've only had this modem/router for a little over a year and it is already going out. With how much we paid for this thing, I would have thought it would last longer than 15 months. I bought a modem in 2008 that lasted 9 years. My last one lasted 3 years. This one only lasted 15 months. Are they making them less and less reliable over the years? I decided to end my Triple Play service (Internet, Cable TV, Telephone) with Comcast, turn in my rented equipment, and switch to Internet only service with my own equipment. This Motorola MB8611 is one of the devices compatible with Comcast's fastest service, as well as one of the least expensive. I've been very happy with its performance – it's delivering speeds at the 800 Mbps service I now have with Comcast. It's simple to install, though activating it with Comcast was a chore – not because of any issues with the modem, but because of Comcast's customer service shortcomings. I already have a robust WiFi router setup downstream of the modem, so didn't need a modem with WiFi capability. I recommend this modem as a replacement for older equipment that doesn't offer the DOCSIS 3.1 spec or to replace equipment rented from your ISP, especially if you don't need WiFi or telephone connectivity with it. I have 1 Gig service provided by a cable company. I have also chosen to own my modem instead of renting one from the cable company. My previous modem was also DOCSIS 3.1 compliant, but was made by a different manufacturer. The old modem would look like it was connected, but would lose access to the Internet. After I replaced the old modem with this one, that issue no longer happens. Based on network speed tests done just before I swapped out modems and just after, this modem appears to support speeds about 10% faster than the old modem. Installation was easy, but did require that I chat with a technical support agent at the cable company. After I provided the MAC address and serial number of my modem, it took less than a minute for the agent to configure my connection and for my modem to connect to the Internet. Overall, I am glad that I purchased this modem and would recommend it to anyone with 1 Gig service.PatInAZ

I've been reading the 1 star reviews and sounds similar to my issue and I'm quite surprised the modem still is rated at 4.5 stars. 6 days after the year warranty is up (purchased on 10/27/2021) all the lights are flashing/blinking. I followed the protocol: unplug, wait, plug, reset, wait reconnect. All amounted to nothing. I called NetGear customer support. They confirmed it is a hardware problem. Even if I entered into a paid contract for NetGear support, it would not help with hardware issues. Heed this warning please. Regardless, I paid $249.99 less taxes for this product with the understanding it was going to last. And it has failed my expectations. Now, if I bought a modem at $80 and it lasted a year, then I'd think, "you get what you paid for." But this was $250 dollars. Regardless of the industry standard of 1 year warranty, I'd expect it to last much longer based on price = quality. If I'm mistaken, then the company's mission should be reviewed. I do not think this is a customer issue, but a NetGear issue. They have such a great reputation. I bought this modem in July 2021 to replace my 6 year old Motorola modem. It was working good for about 6 months until it stopped connecting to the internet. The only thing that the modem does is that the lights flash really fast and I have gone through many steps to troubleshoot the issue, but nothing has worked. From what I read online, it's probably a hardware problem and a few people have been having the same issue and needing to get replacements. I'm currently waiting to get it replaced and their online technical support takes awhile to help you out right away. (It took over a week to get my replacement request approved) Other than that the modem was easy to set up and the connection speeds were really nice, but when you pay over $200 for a modem that only last 6 months and comparing it to a modem that costed $100 that lasted around 6 years… is a little disappointing. I know I probably wasn't lucky with this one, so I hope the replacement last as long as my old Motorola one. Right now I would rate this 2 stars and recommend a different modem or get an extended hardware warranty through Best Buy if you choose to get it. Louisville/Southern IN Spectrum users beware!!!! Bought this on 2/19/21 and updated my spectrum to 1 gb service. Of course I went by the great reviews before I bought it and I had high hopes. Unfortunately I kept getting time outs and no response synchronicity faults in my activity logs and called Spectrum…they did all they could on their end, appointment set for tech to come out. Called netgear that same day…the support guy was confident that it was a combination of the wrong firm ware and said to tell the tech guy to make sure outside line wasn't broken. On netgear's website it says that the spectrum approved firmware for this modem is V1.01.05. It shipped with V1.01.06. Of course netgear said to tell spectrum to manually change the firmware, Spectrum of course says they don't do that. A quick google search shows this is common between carriers and manufacturers pointing fingers at each other with customers caught in the middle with firmware that messes up the speeds you pay for. I ordered 1 Gb and was getting between 200mb and 400mb. Spectrum guy came out, showed I was getting 1.3 Gb coming into the house, but only about 500mb coming from modem. Needless to say…I returned it. I'm sure it's an awesome modem and it DOES work if you are lucky enough to have the right firmware the your ISP supports, but unfortunately mine doesn't and I don't need an expensive modem for 400mb speeds coming from it. Netgear support was decent, I suppose…but they should know better than to tell customers to get their ISP to make changes to the firmware. They already know that isn't going to happen before they even tell you! As I say…it does work, but mine fluctuated between 200-400mb. No where close to 1 GB.sean126

Bought this to replace my 15yr old Motorola surfboard sb6141[still works] modem and an apple airport wireless base station. [very expensive and overpriced for what it does]. Since the last Motorola lasted, I stuck with them and I'm glad I did. This unit does the job of both modem and wireless routing in one unit so just power and cable connection. Less wiring is a plus. The old modem was 8 down. This one is 24 down. That equates to better bandwith/speed. I went from approx. 150Mbps to 433Mbps. I can tell the difference. Also the internal antenna's cover better than the expensive apple. I went from a weak signal to medium in the bedroom[farthest point] and medium to strong everywhere else. I was thinking about upgrading my comcast/xfinity speed but now it's not necessary. Easy to set up. For those having trouble, you can tweak your settings and tuning from the included configuration manager for even more speed and better coverage if there is a lot of congestion in your area. The internal power boost insures it goes the legal limit if need be automatically.Chuck

I used this to replace a similar Motorola modem/router combo that was about 8 years old. My download speeds went up 4 to 8 times what I had previously via Ookla Speedtest (now ranges from 150-350 Mbps). Upload speed stayed the same or maybe increased 1 Mbps (average 10-11 Mbps now). It was very easy to set up and thankfully it had a few less digits on the passcode, but still enough to be secure. FYI – I use Comcast (Xfinity) service.TedT

My previous modem, an MG7315, which was only 4 years old would drop the internet connection several times a day, sometimes several times within a 2 hour zoom session. The dropped connection would last about 4 minutes until it reacquired it. It was doing this for a year. I blamed Comcast, and had called Comcast a couple time in the last 2 years. Anyways, I took the chance to buy another modem/router and took a chance on buying another Motorola product, and I bought this MG7700. I've only had it for 5 days, but not a single drop thus far. And my Netflix on my TV via WiFi hasn't got behind in its streaming which it occasionally did. (the TV WiFi connection didn't have as severe a problem as my hard-wired computer. Not sure why.) I've had this new router/modem for several days now. So far I'm very happy with the item. No dropped connections !! The wifi signal is strong and I noticed significant increase in connection speed to my laptop. Upgraded to 900 speed internet service and this modem channel the speed nicely through the ethernet to TV connection. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a new modem / router to go along with high speed internet service. Buy this instead NETGEAR – Nighthawk AX6000 Wi-Fi 6 Router This Arris Surfboard broke down after less than two weeks. During my work day the router kicked out. When I went into the app it said to reconnect to the internet. I tried a reboot and disconnecting the lines. No luck. After searching online, there is a known bug with this router and their app the internet connection can kick out often causing you to reboot. When you reboot you actually have to do a factory reset, delete the app, and restart your internet setup from the beginning. That means reconnecting it with your ISP all over again which can take up to an hour. You’d have to do this every time the internet goes down on the router. It’s a known bug and they haven’t fixed it in years. Not worth the money. Go with Netgear, I switched over right after this and it’s been smooth sailing since.JAndreu

When I purchased the Netgear Nighthawk cable modem router, it was to replace the one that we had previously. The old one had stopped working and my teenage children were very close to death themselves. That is, according to my son who said that he was "gonna die" without "the net." I don't have a medical degree, but I was able to purchase and hookup the device fairly quickly and easily. After following the steps in the included installation guide we had internet service floor to ceiling and beyond again. Thanks to the Netgear Nighthawk my son did not implode, explode, or show any signs of promised death. Instead as soon as he witnessed the living room devices connecting to the web again, he leapt from the couch and bounded upstairs with a "thanks dad". No, I thought, thank you Netgear. The first one stopped working In two weeks. Returned to BB for a replacement. This one worked for 5 months, then it lost all settings and reverted back to factory defaults. The Netgear Nighthawk app could not connect to it for trouble shooting. Tried following directions, which pushed heavily to call for tech support. After 25 mins of getting information, hold and transfers I finally got to a tech. And now it required a $50 three month tech contract to trouble shoot. “Connect without Internet” After trying repeatedly trying to get thru the admin setup screen I went back to my Wi-Fi log in page and selected “connect without internet” and all the problems were solved. The $50 tech call was no use at all, even after paying for it. Told her I was using an iPad. She kept telling me to go to a command prompt and type “configip”. Could not understand iOS and macOS were not windows machines running DOS. When yours breaks, and it will, remember to “connect without internet” or they will get you for $50. If they would simply print it and place on the side of the modem or in the directions one of the 15 places they printed to call the support number I would replace it with another one when needed. When you purchase this device, you're really rolling the dice on whether the device you receive will work. The two we purchased simply wouldn't work. All the lights lit up green, except for the bottom ethernet light, which would always be orange. And no, we did not forget to register with our ISO, or fail to hook up the wires correctly. When we finally got a refund and bought a Motorola instead, it worked totally fine immediately. Want a modem? Look elsewhere. Also: Be warned, this product does not come with built-in wifi. The box the device comes in does not make this explicitly clear, unless you speak techno-babble as a second language. If you for some reason take the risk and buy this modem, you WILL need to purchase a separate router. Bought this router back in March 2021 and have had many issues with our internet ever since. Bought a new router since this was a new modem to begin with so didnt suspect it to fail. 3 months after replacing the router, this Netgear modem bricked itself and was unable to reboot after power cycling it. The top 4 lights would flash amber rapidly and would not do anything when you hold the reset button down. Many forums stated once this happens, you need to get a new modem. Since I bought it in Match 2021, I thought there was a 1 year warranty, but based off the Netgear product registration they said it was out of warranty. Recently upgraded my internet from 200-400 mbps from Spectrum. Early speed tests had different numbers from different devices (hardwired or wifi). Spoke with Netgear support and they helped me troubleshoot the issues. I know doing this was a process, but it was worth it (40 min later). It drastically changed the numbers and now consistently have the same numbers at near 500 mbps (hardwired), a little over 450 (wifi), upload at a constant 23. I spent hours looking for a modem/router combination that would cover the square footage of my new apartment, be Xfinity compatible, and feature rich. The choices weren't great and I normally just rent the modem but I needed to terminate service and start over recently so I decided to stop paying $14 month renting. This modem/router has a small footprint but should run up to 20 devices. Save yourself some grief and follow the NetGear activation instructions rather than reaching out to the ISP. My installation failed at first because I wasn't registered with NetGear even though everything looked good on Xfinity's side. So far things are working well. I have all my devices including WFH working without hard-wiring with an Ethernet cable. In the past, everything I purchased from NetGear was an expensive disappointment. I got this modem/router for the apartment I’m currently living at. The apartment is just about 1000 sq. ft and is 2 stories. Between my roommates and myself, there are up to 10 devices in use at any given time. We have not had any issues whatsoever with having a strong internet connection anywhere in the apartment even though the router is located in a corner of the building. It was incredibly simple to set up using the nighthawk app. I highly recommend this modem/router for anyone living in a smaller house or apartment who wants to feel confident about their ability to stay connected.Keiran M

Recently purchased this as an open box unit and so far seems to be working fine. We had a very similar modem / router that must have been its predecessor with one in between and the one that was similar to this worked excellent until we knocked it over and it smashed and it didn't work anymore. So hopefully this one will not have that happen. Netgear makes really good routers and the one that we had in between was given to us and it was actually a more expensive model with the two antennas and cable company was doing an upgrade in the area and as far as we are concerned, they fried it. Could never get it to reboot after they did whatever they did. SPECTRUM HIGH SPEED INTERNET SERVICE is fairly reliable. The service that I pay for is $65.00 per month plus tax and it gives me enough speed for computer internet and streaming on my TV. I do not game so I cannot comment about that. For me, this service is satisfactory for Internet Only. The thing I don't like about SPECTRUM is they keep trying to sell me a TV Bundle for $44.95 for the TV and $44.95 for the Internet. I had some issues where internet would cut in and out. I also bought a nighthawk router to go with this. This is a DOCSIS 3.0. I should had went with a DOCSIS 3.1 maybe. Then again my service provider Suddenlink in WV is not a very great company as far as internet quality goes. Is this modem really to blame? I’m not really sure. At the time I signed up for the 600 internet speed and it worked like it should but the issues of going on and off kept happening. I reconfigured everything from the modem and router. Everything would go smoothly for a while then the same problem would exist. I did purchase a arris surfboard and upgraded to the 1 G internet service. The same problem exists with that modem. All cables and connections have been checked. I did bring this modem down to NC to my other residence and I will be possibly switching my current modem here and see if this modem gives any problems. If it does, then it’s either the modem or that cable companies don’t like you using your own modem since they make a large sum off of their rentals. 3.5 stars for now and that’s because of logging into the interface could be set up a bit differently when logged in. The routers are great with exception to the App crashing and not recognizing the router. That’s completely different than the products themselves. I would recommend this router if you don’t get the 1 G service and that’s because of the 3.1 is better to suit that need. Purchased modem, received modem, installed modem, called Comcast to have channels provisioned. Was informed by Comcast they no longer support this modem and I needed to purchase a different modem. Did internet speed test and received 1mbps download speed and 1mbps upload speed. It's a shame because I love Netgear's equipment and strive to only use them with my networks. I'll be switching to the Motorola Mb8600 instead of getting the next step up from this model which is the CM700 and has absolutely horrible reviews, or getting the step down, CM500, which doesn't have the capabilities I'm looking for. Bought to upgrade from older modem and router. This combo unit was easy to setup, and activated quickly through Comcast app. Like that I will have one less thing on the desk with the combo modem/router, and when speed tested was getting speeds in the 240 mpbs on our 200mpbs plan, both with the directly connected PC, and the wifi connected laptop in the other room. Terrible modem do NOT BUY!!! It’s completely insecure and opens you up to hackers. Arris changed their policy and no longer allows user to change user login. So ever single modem arris in use is “admin” and all the urls are 192.168.0.1. If you have a background in IT like I do; this is terrifying. A hacker can hack your password in less than 60 seconds. It’s vital that both defaults setting “admin” and “password” are changed to keep your network secure. Only one change doesn’t cut it.JLH1980

I bought this after seeing that it cost $14/month to lease Xfinity's equipment for WiFi. I did a lot of research for compatible devices and landed on this once because the reviews were pretty standard when compared to options with higher price points. Xfinity sent self-install instructions and I struggled with them/the Arris instructions for 40 minutes and could not get it to work. Finally, I called Xfinity and they told me they needed to register my device before it would connect. Very frustrating because the instructions were unclear, and I was on hold for a while with customer service. After that initial hiccup, this seems to be working well and I have no complaints. It will pay for itself in less than a year instead of leasing Xfinity's equipment. My advice is just to call customer service straight away and save the frustration of trying to get this connected yourself.Sarah

Finally decided to upgrade my Xfinity provided and woefully unreliable Modem/Router combo to this Modem and Netgear R7000 Router (which I also highly recommend) and the difference is incredible! Before I was only getting 90 Mbps and frequent dropouts and now I've been getting a consistent 200 Mbps (keep in mind I'm only on a 175 Mbps plan) and so far absolutely no drop outs or slow downs! I was expecting a minor improvement but I was not expecting this much of a improvement! Set-up was straight-forward and easy aswell! I would totally recommend this Modem for anyone looking for a upgrade with Voice capability and is definitely worth the price (now saving $14 a month in rental fees) All in all I am very happy with this purchase and will be buying Netgear products for years to come.Jacob C

The modem did not work as I initially thought it did. It took two calls tech support and hours of experimenting to find out how the modem really works. Once I understood how it worked it has worked fine. I thought each of the 4 ethernet ports had access to the internet. However, only one port has access to the internet. You need to connect a router to this modem to give additional devices access to the internet. The other 3 ethernet ports on the modem are worthless unless you buy additional connections from Xfinity.JRA

This a great modem ive had it for 2 years now and have had zero problems and have saved a ton of money because of it! after reading all the bad reviews I was dying laughing most of them I could tell had no idea how this equipment works one guy says it doesnt work with Comcast LOL It does! you probably set it up wrong ..People Comcast doesn't want you to buy these things because it costs them money so what they do when you have issues is they tell you its broken when its not .. when I set this up I didn't even have to talk to anyone from Comcast …before you buy this read up on it watch a video etc and you won't have any problems .. another thing because you have 1000 Gb speed internet that doesnt mean your going to get that speed to your devices .. the more devices you have the lower your speed is going to be going to them.. It was a tough decision deciding between this modem, and the MB8611. After reading a lot of reviews, I decided that we probably won't ever need link aggregation. Nor will we have internet speeds available over the 3.8GBps that the MB8600 maxes out at, before Comcast stops supporting it, and we need to buy another one, anyway. We recently upgraded our internet to a 1200Mbps plan, with a new Asus RT-AX86U router, and this MB8600 modem. Setup wasn't quite as easy as the instructions said it would be. It probably should be that simple, but be prepared to call your ISP (possibly without internet access) to get it provisioned correctly, just in case. It took a couple of hours total, and a few tries to get this modem activated on our account. Once set up, though, we haven't had any issues with this modem. We get fast, consistent and reliable service. This is the first modem I've bought that came with a tool for loosening and tightening a coaxial cable. It's just a little thing, but a nice addition that I will definitely hang on to, and use. My fingers definitely appreciate this little tool lol. My only concern with purchasing this particular model is the age, and only because of our ISP. The MB8600 was released in 2017. I am a little worried that Comcast will stop supporting this model, well before we actually need to upgrade modems again.XJ650Maxim

My DOCSIS 3.0 modem was reporting an increasing number of errors and at an increasing rate. Decided to upgrade to 3.1 and selected this item after some detailed research. Initial installation was a problem. Xfinity support solved it. The cause was the cable into my house from the curb. Not the MB8600. After 25 years of being buried, the outside cable was in bad shape. Xfinity kept working with me until the MB8600 was working regardless the signal issue. Xfinity with great patience got the modem running, arranged for the outside coax to be replaced, and a did clean job on burying the new cable under the grass. The MB8600 delivers great speed and several Xfinity people commented that this was a great choice. Funny thing, initially the Xfinity app declared this modem to be not recommended. That later changed. Three years prior, I had Verizon run fiber to the house. Everything Verizon did was a disaster from laying the cable to billing. Just saying. This modem works well.WrongDelivery

I bought this product two years ago and it has not failed me once. It is as boring and as efficient as a modem can get. I upgraded halfway through to one gigabit download and I hope that one day I’ll be able to get upload mirrored to my download. If you want gigabit modem capability this modem will deliver it is stable and constant quality of connection. I’ve actually swapped routers twice since I got this which is not a good thing for the router division but when it comes to modem reliability this Motorola has delivered on what I expected and needed for the last 2+ years. This modem replaced another Netgear modem that was only two years old and kept having to be rebooted. I thought it was an issue with my ISP but when I checked with them and everything was good, I decided to start with a new modem and go from there. I have had it for a week now and it works great. Luckily, I purchased an extended warranty on the old one at Best Buy so what I paid for the old one was credited to the new one.Mike

This has been a good modem. The two things I don’t like-it has to be unpowered two minutes for a full memory reset. And 2-if Comcast specifies the protocol why don’t they support the modem? The protocol should give them visibility into whether the modem likes their signal. But they bounce me to Netgear support who tries to sell service after the 90-day warranty and it is Comcast’s signal that is at fault!!! These racketeers should make this experience simple for clients if they control the rules.Marv

This modem died after 8 months. Hours spent on phone with ISP who kindly did everything possible to help despite it not being their modem. Then hours spent with Netgear, who told me modem was fine and problem was with router. Called Asus for supposed router issue. Wanted to charge me 90 dollars for extended service plan which is about 20 dollars below price of new router. Had them email me help link and fixed router myself. The next day, no internet again. Bought new Netgear router. Called ISP provider again and told me everything fine on their end. Called Netgear for help with new router. 2 hours later… still only 40-100 mbps download speeds with ISP plan for 400 mbps. Another 2 hours rebooting Netgear modem and signal from ISP. This morning: no internet. Now purchasing new Motorola modem, returning Netgear router. After extensive research there is a bad chip in netgear cm700 modem. The Netgear AXE7800 (RAXE300) Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router is a very solid router, but it should be given its price point. While not the most expensive home router you can buy, it's certainly nearing the upper tier when it comes to suggested retail price. Whether the RAXE300 is worth it or not is very dependent on who is purchasing it. It offers some nice features, and performance is very good — even excellent at times, particularly over its 5 Ghz frequency though it fell short of what was advertised. Netgear states up to 7.8 Gbps data transfer rates, but in reality, it measured around 700 Mbps over Wi-Fi between the connected devices. That's actually common, as manufacturers list the theoretical maximum speeds. You will always get lower speeds in real-life conditions. The other important point is that your subscription level with your Internet Service Provider and the quality of the connection is the most significant factor for any online activity. If your Internet connections is rated at 20 Mbps, then that is the maximum throughput any device connected to your router will achieve when accessing resources over the Internet. It doesn't matter how "fast" your router is, you're limited by the amount of data your Internet connection provides when doing anything online. W-Fi coverage was excellent. I did not experience any dead spots over the 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz channels. The RAXE300 also supports a 6 Ghz frequency, which is much more finicky regarding distance and line of sight, however I did not have any devices that supported that frequency for testing. Wi-Fi printers, doorbell and IP cameras, as well as smart devices like thermostats, light bulbs, alarms, smartphones and tablets all worked flawlessly. You can use the router’s USB port to host a storage device. In this case, there are different ways to share the storage across the local network or the Internet. You also have to option to turn the router into a DLNA Media Server. Setting it all up did not go smoothly. Following the setup guide, I downloaded the Nighthawk app to my smartphone, then scanned the tag on the router. The app stated the router was not supported. Huh? Being a network engineer, I was able to work around that, but for those whose expertise does not include networks, it might have been a bit more intimidating. I also don’t like that this requires you to register an account with Netgear, requiring information that may raise privacy concerns. Other disappointments were a lack of quality of service (QoS) controls in the app. I did find QoS in the web interface that can be enabled, however once enabled, it appears to work based on a pre-configured database. There’s no way to know what it does or how well it does it. There appears to be very limited parental controls. Netgear offers a paid subscription for premium parental controls, as well as a 30-day trial of Netgear Armor subscription for security. There’s apparently no built-in online protection. Netgear has apparently removed remote management capability in this version of the software. For the past few years, it seems Netgear has been removing features from the web interface and have been pushing users towards the mobile app. Overall, the Netgear AXE7800 (RAXE300) Tri-Band Wi-Fi Router performed very well, but in an effort towards either ease of use or a more profitable subscription model, lacks management features more technical users are accustomed to. Excellent performance warrants a 5-star rating, but some minor annoyances and lack of control prevents from awarding it the highest overall rating. I also can’t figure out how to make it fly. The Netgear Nighthawk AXE7800 offers excellent performance in a WiFi 6 router. In a quick speed test shortly after setup, I was getting 338 Mbps to my iPhone over WiFi on a 400 x 20 cable connection. The router came securely packaged with a power supply and a flat CAT5e cable, as well as a quick start guide and a quick reference card to be kept near the router. Setup was quick. I plugged my wired devices into the 4 gigabit ethernet ports, and connected the cable modem to the gigabit WAN port, rebooted the cable modem, and once the modem's boot up was complete, I plugged in the router and had it up and running in just a few seconds. There is also a 2.5 Gbps WAN port if you're lucky enough to have faster than Gigabit speeds from your ISP. I then connected my iPhone to the router's default WiFi and used the Netgear Nighthawk App to customize my SSIDs and passwords and add guest access. This portion of the installation could have been a little smoother. Between main and guest WiFi networks, there are a total of SIX SSIDs. Each one required entering the custom SSID and password, and then waiting for a reboot. It would've been much, much faster if all six were entered on a single screen followed by a single reboot. That issue aside, installation wasn't difficult, just a bit more time consuming than it needed to be. I do like that the router defaults to separate SSIDs for each band, as this makes it easy to connect home automation devices to the 2.4 Ghz network, which most of them require. It's also nice to be able to choose the connection you need for a particular purpose or device since 2.4 Ghz offers longer range, but 5 & 6 Ghz bands offer much higher speeds. The AXE7800 offers extreme speed for those who need it, along with ease of installation, and a very good management app. This is a very nice, VERY fast router.NoNameNick

I am always on the hunt for a better router. I've had everything from standard routers of the past, to the latest mesh networks. I have a lot of devices connected to my router and need fast speeds to keep up with everything as well as good coverage. We have a smaller house at 1,400 sq. ft., and it is anything but an open floor plan. Each room is closed off to the next. You will need to download the Nighthawk app for setup and to use the features of the router. The app includes a device manager to see your full list of devices, speed test, parental controls, WiFi analytics (signal strength, speed tests for different rooms of your house, settings for each of the three bands, guest WiFi and a traffic meter). It also comes with a 30-day free trial of Armor Security, you can pay for the yearly subscription after the trial if you wish. At any given time we have around 30 devices connected to the network. (There are several more, but these are the ones that are always on and connected). The tri-band is extremely helpful. I can split the devices connected between the three bands based on my needs. For example, my phone stays on the 6GHz band, while my smart-home devices stay on the base band (2.4GHz). My old router was in the master bedroom and I had nodes in various places throughout the house/garage. It still didn't have the best coverage. With this router, I decided to move it to the center of the house in the living room. I put it in what should be a bad spot signal wise. I have it on the bottom shelf of our TV stand behind a door. With everything so close to it, and it being almost on the floor behind a door, I figured it might struggle to get a signal out, but it does great. I live on one acre and I have strong signal all over the property and my outdoor cameras have a full signal. I have my PS5 and my JBL Bar 9.1 soundbar wired to the router. I will say that this router is quite large (13.6" wide, 6.47" high and 8.16" deep) and will be harder to hide than most current routers. I don't mind the size as it is hidden away and fits in my TV stand. As far as some of the devices connected and where they are, I have three TVs connected (each with a FireStick), one TV is in the garage. Four smartphones, three smart watches, three Alexa Shows, many light bulbs, two outdoor cameras (one on the front porch and one outside the garage), two laptops, a doorbell and security system. I never have any lag while gaming and no buffering while streaming TV. This router is great if you have a larger space and many devices connected. I had only a few choices of a cable modem and router to use with comcast internet and voice. I chose the Nighthawk in spite of the high cost since it came highly rated. In the first few months it worked fine but then the wifi became quite slow causing a lot of buffering and an inability to use it in the bedrooms of our house. I called tech support paid more for their services since the 90 days had run out. They were thorough in their check, gave me some pointers we reset the device and it worked bettter. Now the wifi has dropped off again causing me to miss 2 zoom meetings. Our son is in college and this is complicating his days as well. So overall I am not pleased. I have checked with comcast during times of difficulty and they have not reported any disruption in service. I am within the 1 year warranty and would like to trade this device in for one that works.Richard

I went to Best Buy to get a Wi-Fi extender. The associate told me the real issue was my xfinity router/ modem made from recycled parts and the better solution would be to purchase one from Best Buy and avoid monthly rental fees and this would also resolve the dead spots as it was a better router/modem. Sadly this “pitch” turned out to be false and 2 different router/modems later and multiple phone calls to both netgear and xfinity as well as a visit from the xfinity technician, I learned that the Netgear router modem was in fact, incapable of providing the same Wi-Fi speeds as the xfinity model. The Netgear router/modem provided less than 1/2 the Wi-Fi speed as the xfinity router/modem……Either the Best Buy associate was ignorant of the product capabilities or he intentionally lied in order to upswell….either way, I will be avoiding both Best Buy and Netgear products unless and until I am reimbursed for all the wasted time and aggravation. If you really want to own and want high speed this is not the way to go……I got over 600 with xfinity gateway and was only in the 200’s with Netgear’s…..not a contest……DupedInIllinois

The condition of this item was better than advertised. While not the most current technology, it is more than sufficient for my needs – 5 computers, 2 tablets and 1 smartphone and no more than 1 video stream at a time. This is a good value for the price that includes phone, internet and wi-fi. Now I can remove modem rent from my internet bill. Replacing the ISP's modem with this modem was straightforward and I didn't need to re-introduce my wireless computers to this new gateway. Even better.rmartine2

I bought this cable modem for my area's fastest internet provider and the technicians had nothing but good things to say about this particular model. They said it is capable of faster speeds than the other modems they use, faster speeds than the provider can produce, which tells me it will be the only modem I will need for quite some time. This model has the voice capability so you can use it for phone service as well. If you don't need it for phone service, there are cheaper versions of this modem that will serve you well. I wanted to buy a modem instead of rent it from the provider service because it will for itself within a year. I had this service before and even though you can have it replaced for free if you are renting it, I had the service for about 5 years and could have bought 5 modems if I bought them myself instead of renting so if you can fork out $200 or less it is worth it in the long run. Reception is great in the house and the modem is fast. It is Docsis 3, optimized for Xfinity service, and has been steady and fast.imabucfan

This is a good product. It performs as well as, and has almost all the functionality of the similar Xfinity modem. One thing that is different is that the 2 phone ports that it has, which the Xfinity modem also has, is that it is configured to have 2 different phone lines as opposed to having them be parallel ports, like the Xfinity model. Purchased the CM1100 because it specifically advertised "Gigabit Ethernet Ports – Fastest wired speeds to connect your router or computer. Create two home networks both capable of gigabit speeds and aggregate for the fastest Multi-Gig speeds" and box also indicated "2 Gigabit Ethernet Ports". It does have 2 ports BUT apparently only supports one home network (doesn’t act like an internal ethernet switch). I wanted to connect a router to one port and use the other port to hardwire connect to a computer. I am an electrical engineer and after trying to get both to work for over a day (note: getting one to work would somehow disable the other network) I called customer support thinking the problem was perhaps due to IP addressing and modem configuration. The router I was connecting to was a Netgear WiFi6 mesh. My frustration grew when they told me that it had nothing to do with IP addressing, the second LAN port was only for link aggregation and there was no way to connect two home networks directly to the modem. Whether the CM1100 description was misleading or customer support was ignorant really doesn't matter…it is inexcusable and is in part the reason for the 2 stars. The other reason for the 2 stars is because of the effort I had to put in to circumvent this hidden modem limitation by getting a separate ethernet switch and incorporating house wiring.1Joe

Upgrade on an Xfinity/Comcast Motorola Surfboard from over a decade ago, has seemed to function without issue since day 1! Next planned purchase: a WiFi router upgrade that has LACP-IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation to take advantage of the secondary gigE port. I really appreciate that it even offers that, even though I prefer being in areas which have FTTH and 10gigE or better (SGI was doing such things in the 1990s after all, and Mellanox has 200Gbps adapters, whilst even Intel is playing catch up with 100Gbps ethernet now and NICs don't cost much more than these ancient slow DOCSIS cable modems reliant on intrinsically slower than fiber and optical light based interconnects, copper wiring.) Albeit, in SOHO consumer gear, that means another $300 or $400 in equipment just to theoretically get to 2Gbps, which I am more or less certain Comcast doesn't guarantee or charges through the nose for, meanwhile well over a decade ago I was paying less in gear per gigabit ethernet port with fiber trunking from better ISPs, but when in hell, at least make it run faster! So, this is a definitive upgrade from the older modem. The power switch, is also, wonderful, because in my experience, it is necessary to power cycle the customer premises equipment with this ISP quite often, and having to gothrough the hassle of unplugging the previous modem, just to power cycle it, was even more of a chore. Good upgrade! Better upgrade would be moving to an area which has fiber to the home based ISPs e.g. municipal fiber for $500/mo/10Gbps in Atherton or $50/mo/1Gbps, and even cheaper offerings from Sonic and Cruzio in Santa Cruz and places such as Petaluma, but I do not currently reside in such regions as the real estate costs are also high.shinikami

If you have Xfinity, this is a great modem to replace the monthly fee for renting one from Xfinity. Easy to setup. Xfinity walks you through it very nicely and the instructions that come with the modem are very thorough with resources for the various cable companies you may be using the modem with at your home. This modem sends great speeds to your router. This modem so far has provided a more consistent connection and faster speeds than older Netgear modems. Good idea to use Cat7, if possible, to connect to good WiFi router/mesh system. Give yourself the best possibility for speed and connection, and get a Netgear CM1100.trude_us
