Best Mousse For Fine Hair Humidity (2024 Update)

I heard other reviews and videos rave about this mousse and had to try it. I have to say, they are right. I have fine texture, low porosity natural hair. My hair is short, but when stretched the back comes to my collar bone and the front comes to the end of my nose (to give you a reference). I get good definition using a gel, but this product really defined my hair, and I had more body. Body is a problem for those of us with fine hair. My curls lasted 4 days, especially in the top which is longer. My hair is shorter on the sides and since I sleep on my side the definition fades sooner. I still had a little definition on my sides day 4, but the top still had curls. The first time I used it I only used a moisturizing deep conditioner and the mousse. It did great defining my curls, but left my hair very dry. The next time I used a moisturizing deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, a moisturizing gel, and a sealing oil with the mousse. Sounds like a lot, but this is the process I have to use every wash day to keep my hair moisturized for 3 days. I did not have any problems with dry hair at all this time. This mousse has become part of my weekly regimen.Breezinby

I have thick heavy waves/curls. The product worked well when I used it with a leave in conditioner. The day I was in a rush and didn't put a leave in my hair was course and felt dehydrated. It doesn't help to clump your curls on it's own, but was easy to style and mold my curls with my brush. Dried quickly and smelled good. I didn't get a chance to use it for a long period of time to see the overall quality. The bottle untwisted just enough while under my sink and spilled. Luckily I had it in a container. The bottle easily untwist. You should keep the product right side up and make sure it doesn't knock over. Unfortunately it's the bottle quality that keeps me from buying this again. I would suggest checking The Doux’s channel on YouTube to see how she uses the styler depending on the length of the hair. I have a short natural tapered cut and the mousse works best went I finger twirl the top and front. I love the slip and the shine. Even though the hold is soft – it survives my sweaty workouts. As long as I don’t touch my hair and let it air dry – it will last 5-6 days with minor touch-ups. This has become my sole and primary styler!GeeMilli

I wanted to like this, but I just don’t. It leaves your hair feeling dirty and crusty the same way a sea salt mousse would. I use mouse in my hair quite often. I like the way gives my hair and curls bounce without stiffness. This one though whether your hair is clean or not, leaves your hair feeling dry, dirty and crusty. It’s supposed to be for dry curly hair. it’s supposed to soften, defined and volumize with a flexible hold. well it doesn’t hold flexibly. actually, after you put it in just makes your hair feel like straw. It smells amazing that much I love. it absolutely smells amazing. But it does not leave your hair feeling soft and it does not define your hair. I love all the other products from this line but this one is the only one that I just don’t like. My first impression is I love the packaging the blue and gold is very pretty. I also like the smell. It’s a really strong coconut scent. So if your not into strong or coconut fragrances I wouldn’t recommend this line of products from Maui Moisture. First I used this mousse first on my daughters tightly coiled hair along with the gel and it worked okay but nothing to rave about it defined the coils and gave a nice shine. The second day however I noticed her hair had so many flakes I had to wash it out. I would say that I will not use this again for her because it has somewhat of a drying effect on naturally coiled hair. When I used it on my hair I didn’t like the way it felt going on. It felt kinda stiff and drying so I didn’t use on my full head. I would not recommend to for thick coiled or tightly curled natural hair.kristina.b

My hair stylist near Tampa, FL introduced me to this product. Unlike other foam styling mousse this one doesn't dissolve to the touch, the mousse stays thick and effective throughout the application. I have short fine hair and this is my go-to product. It has a nice lite scent-not over powering. This product gives my hair volume and a bit of texture so my hair stays in place better. I really like this product. I used for the first time when I was getting my hair cut. It did the trick for my hair. I only needed this one product, which is unheard of for me because I need lots of product in my hair to tame my curls. I love how it makes my hair feel, while still keeping my curls in tact and bouncy. I will be buying more. Despite the fact I've been using name brand of hairspray for decades, curiosity got the best of me and I decided to give Moroccanoil Extra Strong Hold hairspray a try. First and foremost , I have a new favorite hairspray! (In all honesty, I did not expect that to happen!) This hairspray is phenomenal. I have very thick, wavy hair. A few quick sprays' worth keeps my hair in place all day long and that is even with the extreme heat and humidity we're currently experiencing. Its not heavy, doesn't weigh my hair down or make it stiff and crunchy. And, of course, it has the fantastic Moroccanoil scent we all know and love. This is a keeper for me. As a single dad, timing is of the essence. Whoever first thought “let’s have microwaveable bags,” thank you for this innovative. It’s changed things for the better. Birds Eye is one of the better brands, and as you’ve probably noticed, they’ve gone up in price. Also their packages are getting smaller. I’m not too fond of this, but inflation plus supply issues, it’s basic economics unfortunately. I like their other frozen selections better. This one is good, but with this, you can tell you’re eating frozen veggies. They aren’t quite as fresh as their other products. Will this work in a pinch? Sure but get this one on sale. The broccoli and cauliflower is extremely healthy, so I do add that caveat. If on sale it’s a buy, but it’s only going to get an okay rating. On a plus note ready in four minutes or so.michael.r

My color is color treated (balayage) and I’ve always hated dry shampoo because it leaves my hair looking dull from the white powder. I wanted to try this because it specifically said it was for dark hair and my hairdresser recommended it last time I had my hair done. I will say this does go on white like other dry shampoos, BUT once you massage it into your scalp or let it sit and absorb all the oils, it disappears. I didn’t find that it left my hair dull either. Dry shampoo can be tricky for some people. I would recommend using it before bed that way it has time to absorb oil over night and you’ll wake up and not have to massage it in or brush it out. Also if you look at some of the pictures people are posting they are literally spraying half the bottle on their head…like of course it’s going to be a thick white powdery mess – You don’t need that much! Spray it where your hair usually looks oily (along your part, maybe an inch or two out from your roots, along your hairline/face). Again you don’t need a lot! I like this brand because it smells wonderful, takes care of the oil, and doesn’t leave my hair dull like other dry shampoos. I would highly recommend this product! Pricey, but worth it. If you want to give a try before purchasing the whole bottle ($26), they do offer a smaller size for about $14.jessica.p

This mousse is a little hard to distribute evenly throughout my hair (granted, I have long and thick hair so it may be better if you have short and/or thin hair). Because it is hard to distribute it evenly, it's really hard to tell if it does anything. I don't feel like it imparts that much body/volume to my hair or makes it that shiny/frizz-free. The smell is nice but, for the price, I don't know that I'd buy it again. I generally love R&Co so this was a disappointment.Anonymous

100% obsessed. This stuff is magic – I add it to my curls right after a dab of leave in conditioner on soaking wet hair (+ a bit more after misting during diffusing if it’s looking a little frizzy.) Good for after shower curl styling/plopping. Pleasant natural smell. Hair is really soft and feels like it's getting moisturized. Curls feel malleable. I really like this mousse for my waves/curls but I wish it combated humidity. it sadly doesn't hold up throughout the hot days either, regardless of scrunching out the light crunch or not. my hair is between chin and tops of shoulders and cut shaggy so I know its not the length weighing it down and i only use one other product with it, Olaplex smoothing bond styling creme. overall though i do like it a lot. but once this bottle is finished ill be on the hunt for another mousse that can withstand the heat and humidity.kalirocker

So i had really high hopes for this because the brand looked interesting and the smell was great. I tried it once on freshly washed hair to see what it could do as a stand alone product. The answer was…. absolutely nothing. I saw my waves starting to leave their clumps even while i was putting it through my wet hair because it encouraged so much frizz. I chalked it up to not using it right so i used it again a few days later on damp unwashed hair with my normal defining cream and it looked promising! For about 2 hours after it dried at least. Then my hair was just a poofy frizzy mess. I may try it again and use my gel, but i am no lomger feeling optimistic about this product. It smells nice and l3aves my hair soft but does absolutely nothing for definition and frizz on my hair.Ry

I love this product for many reasons. It gives me such lovely definition, volume and texture without leaving a sticky residue and the ingredients are fantastic. I also feel like it plays nicely with every other product I have tried with it. It took me awhile to figure out what application method worked best for my hair and now that I have it down, my hair comes out beautifully, not just on wash day or the day following, but for the entire week, my curls look gorgeous with very little maintenance. I prefer to style my hair with a leave in, a gel/custard/souffle and then I diffuse until it partially dry. Once my hair is 50-60% dry, I add four to eight pumps of this magical foam, focusing on the roots then working my way down the entire length, scrunching along the way, and then I resume diffusing. Excellent results, every time. To refresh, I usually slightly dampen my hair and apply a watered down version of a leave in or curl cream (gel when necessary), hit it with the diffuser and depending on what my hair needs, one or two more pumps of foam, often times, none. I was skeptical about spending almost $30 on one product, especially with my negative experiences with a different higher end brand a few years ago. But I must say, this product is totally worth it for me in regards to quality and how much I use. I get maximum results with little amount of product. I would recommend this product and will most definitely be purchasing it again and again. My curl type for those interested is predominantly 3b with some 3c and 3a mixed in. Normal porosity. I’ve been using clean products for 2.5 years now but finding good hair products that actually work has been a struggle. I have straight/wavy hair so I got this to use as a root volume boost. I have long hair so it usually leaves my roots flat from the weight. I used 2 pumps on my scalp while wet then used a blow dry straightener and I was amazed at the lightness and volume! I have thoroughly been enjoying Mielle's products since my first proper introduction to them about 3 months ago. I heard about Mielle while I was wearing locs. So I really didn't pay attention to this company because I wasn't apart of their customer demographic. Most of 2020, I was battling cancer and lost all of my hair. Yes, Im free of it now and actually have some hair on my head again. I was spoiled with 3 years of get up and go hair. I literally owned one bottle of shampoo, retightened my roots 2 to 3 times a year and my anthem was, "I woke up like this." So dealing with loose hair felt foreign to me. More so than it feeling foreign were the PTSD flash backs of me trying to style my loose natural hair. I admit it, in the past I wasn't as accepting of my natural curl pattern. I wanted big 3b curls while God blessed me with 4a/c curls. So the thought of going back to wet sets, twist outs and tons of heavy gel scared me. What impresses me the most with Mielle's products, including this Curl Defining Mousse w/ Hold, is that it is so easy to style my hair. You would think I could just slap anything into my short 3c/4a hair (chemo curls) and it look good. Noooo, this theory was quickly disproven especially when trying other brands. I picked up a sample packet of the Curl Defining Custard at the local Dollar General and I was hooked ever since. Although, The Curl Defining Custard is perfect as is with the shine, definition and hold, I still felt it wasn't soft enough as I wanted. When the bulk of Covid is over, I want hands running through my hair. 😉 LOL It was suggested by Mielle staff to try the Brazilian Curly Cocktail Curl Cream under it. Yes, my hair was still shiny and defined and now it was soft. That combo made my hair super curly also. Its just that my hair took forever to dry and it was a lot of effort to put through my hair. That leads me to this Curl Defining Mousse w/Hold. O-M-G, this is truly wash and go hair with this product. I just run in through sections and I'm done. It dries clear and without flakes. My hair doesn't even have to be soaking wet. It almost looks like I wet set my hair on perm rods. It has the shine of setting lotion and the soft feel too. But my hair has hold and bounce. I just stocked up on this product because I haven't seen it in stores yet and this current price is looking really good. With products like these I don't think I want to go back to wearing locs. In addition to how well the products work, can we talk about the packaging. There are pumps for most of Mielle's products and you can easily lock them closed. Amazing!Dany J.

I love this product🙌🏽🥰. The journey for finding the right natural hair products has been a challenge, but I can truly say this product does its job. It works, I did a Aztec with Apple cider vinegar clay mask. After washing it out I added the rice water drops with Mielle Babassu & Mint deep conditioner. I then followed it up with Rosemary Strengthening Shampoo, and added the White Peony Leave in Conditioner. I selection my hair in four twisted it up and slept in a satin cap. The next morning I reapplied water with mist water bottle, the pomegranate/honey defining mousse added two other gels that’s not in the Mielle collection to get my curl define look. I say all this to say even though I substitute other products in, over all the main products were Mielle. I have naturally wavy/curly hair which is great except that it is so frizzy. I have tried many mousses in the past to calm my frizz without that crunchy feeling and I have finally found the one! This leaves my hair soft to the touch while calming my frizz. This leaves my hair so much more manageable then it was before and as a plus, it smells great! I'm not the type to try foam products (nor mousse) products, and I probably wouldn't. My coworker has always had a nice fluff to her hair so we got into a convo about it. She recommended this product and I looked it up. Apparently it's not that well known, so I was skeptical about buying it, however I took her advice and ordered a can. I was expecting the same or lesser results, as the brand I've been using was the gold standard and I was sure she just had some other secret technique for getting that hair lift. She said if it didn't work, she'd pay for my can though. So, with that bet, I went ahead and did it. I got it a few days later and used it the next day. It was no joke. Upon applying it, I was expecting some messy, greasy stuff. It was nothing like it. It wasn't sticky and didn't dry out my hair. Application was a cinch. Just apply as directed and it should go on smoothly. You may need to comb a little bit, but I had no problem. The lift was significantly noticeable compared to my previous brand, which was well-appreciated. It also smells nice. Not too strong, but not too mild either. Basically, you won't smell it unless you try to go sniffing for it. People can smell if it you're nearby, but it won't leave a trail like some other overpowered like some other brands. This stuff doesn't clump your hair either. My hair was manageable and the lift was there for the whole workday. Washing it off was also easy. It doesn't leave any residue, but leaves a very mild scent. No crunching, scrunching, or clumping. This stuff is the real deal. Highly recommended. Will order again.Viv

I was in love with got2b kinkier. It was the only product that controlled my curls. With high expectations I tried git2b twisted when kinkier was discontinued. It comes no where close to kinkier. I’ve had many compliments on my hair since using this product. It’s become an essential styling aid for my long wavy hair. It really helps define my waves into more refined curls and adds volume with medium hold which lasts till the following day. I’ve tried countless other “curling products” but this one tops them all… as it actually does what it claims and twists the curls into shape. I also love how it lifts and shapes the hair at the crown allowing more space between the curls so my long hair isn’t weighed down or clumped by the product. As the previously reviewer mentioned it may leave a crunchy finish, but only slightly in my opinion (in some areas with product build up). However if I apply a little at a time (scrunching in between each application) or combing through before scrunching it applies more evenly without building up in specific areas. Even if I’m in a rush and end up with a slight crunch in some areas, I just lightly run my fingers through and it breaks up any excess residue. A total must have in my opinion for anyone with untruely waves/curls (especially for medium/long hair). I hope Schwarzkopfdon’t change this formula as I haven’t found anything like it!Melmel

I have been a long term user of Keune hair products and was glad to find the Beauty Care Choices website where I can purchase these products. I like the Style Soft Set Spray and have used it for years. It doesn't leave my hair sticky or dull but holds the style in place throughout the day. I’ve tried so many different gels, mousses, creams, oils, to enhance my poor little damaged waves and I always come back to this. My hair started getting wavier in my teens but I just didn’t take care of my hair very much so my little waves were not flourishing as they could’ve. This product definitely helped enhance them while nourishing them to lock in my conditioner. My hair is slowly graduating from very damaged 2a to relatively damaged 2b hair! I love this product. It locks in your conditioner and adds that moisture you need while sealing up your waves. I like to put a little conditioner on my hair while it’s still really wet from the shower, then comb through my hair with a brush (if I use my fingers like I’m supposed to then the top of my hair at the roots gets really wonky so I have to use a wider wet brush to get some of it normal) then I put this stuff in and I scrunch it up and put it in my little hair towel and I’m done! I have fine, low-density 2C-3A curls and generally follow CGM, but I wanted to try a new mousse because it's still not spring and I'm super bored! I wish I'd looked at the ingredients more closely before buying this mousse, though, because it contains propane, which honestly just freaks me out. I still tried it because I spent money on it, but I wasn't super impressed. The mousse is ***VERY*** thick, so I mixed very small amounts with water before scrunching it into my hair. After diffusing and scrunching out the crunch, my curls were actually very well-defined and had good volume, but even though I used VERY little – an amount that was maybe the size of a plum for my entire head of hair (falls between jawline and shoulder) – my roots felt extremely gummy and gross. I know it's the mousse because the only other product I used was the ultra-light leave-in I've been using for years. I can't imagine being able to use much less product, though, just because of how the mousse comes out of the can. So overall, it does define curls, it may leave a gummy residue (my hair may really be just too fine), and it contains scary ingredients. The scent is also pleasant, but very strong and appears to last (I did my hair hours ago and I still smell like coconut). I wouldn't buy this again, but I'll probably save this as a back-up product in case I run out of my holy grails – and stay far away from open flames, yikes.CB

New packaging but still the same excellent product. Firm enough to hold the fluffiest of hair, yet light enough to restyle. You only need a small amount and it doesn't leave your crunchy or greasy.melsringsnthings

I have been a long term user of Keune hair products and was glad to find the Beauty Care Choices website where I can purchase these products. I like the Style Soft Set Spray and have used it for years. It doesn't leave my hair sticky or dull but holds the style in place throughout the day. There's very little scent to the spray which is also a plus.Anonymous
