I was quite looking forward to using this most from all my purchases. However, I was quite disappointed. It is more of a foam not mousse. The hold is not there and my hair is low porosity type 2b hair and i did not find it reducing frizz either. I section my hair and evenly distribute the Smoothie, then I use this Mousse to focus on my ends. Finally blowdry with a diffuser attachment. With 3b curls that are dry, coarse, long, tangly and graying…I've been struggling lately. I want so badly to keep my hair long and grow it longer than I've ever had the patience to. I purchased this Ouidad VitalCurl mousse today (last one on the shelf!), because I was desperately trying to just get my hair to look good. I got home with my new product and hit the shower right away. After washing/conditioning I put a bit of my previously purchased Ouidad VitalCurl Tress Effects Gel in my palm and added a a nice dollop of this mousse on top and mixed it together until no foam remained and I was left with a wonderfully slippery gel-consistency. I repeated the process once more to make sure I coated everything. I used an Olivia Garden brush to distribute the product and let it dry naturally. It didn't take as long to fully dry as when I use my gel with other hair creams and my hair had a cast that was so perfect it still looked wet when it was fully dry. I was so happy with the results that I feel like I can let this unruly mom keep on growing. At least my ponytail would look good and not a frizzy mess like it usually does. This is THE one product from Ouidad that I feel I can't do without. Granted, I haven't used it by itself but when a curly girl finds her perfect recipe, it's a challenge to stray from it for fear of ruining the outcome. As a side note, I have used the gel mentioned above by itself and I loved the curl formation, however, it's a very foamy gel once I start applying it and it makes a squooshing noise and turns white. I transitioned to my naturally curly hair over a year ago, and after trying lots of gels and heavier hair products, I decided to switch to a mousse. How I use it: After washing and conditioning my hair, and applying a lightweight leave-in conditioner or cream, I use this mousse. I have used this mousse for several years now. I have naturally curly hair and this mousse keeps my hair soft while holding my curl. It comes out as a foam, that turns into more of a gel. It definitely doesn't make my hair feel stiff like some other mousses I have used in the past. Like most products for me, sometimes I have to change my product out. My particular hair type kind of gets tired of the same products. This is definitely something that works for my hair and I will continue to use however. Unlike the other reviewers, I am extremely impressed with this product. Although it dispenses like a mousse, on the hair is has a consistency of a balm, so very little product is required. At application, it is slightly sticky on the hair. While air-drying, my waves behaved with no frizziness or flyaways, but my hair felt a little stiff. To my great surprise, a little scrunching removed any stiffness, leaving only perfectly tame and soft waves. My hair was soft and super shiny. I use a dime-size dollap on the ends of next-day hair and I am good to leave the house. To put things in perspective, this is the only product that my hair needs when air-drying – one product instead of four to five! My only nit? This mousse behaves far more like a gel. I cannot stress this enough. I was recommended this product by a friend who was recommended by a hairdresser. So far, I've tried it with partially towel dried hair, "plopped" hair, and very wet hair. This product works best on wet hair, period. Any sort of drying, even just plopping, can alter the results. I can imagine this would still work for some people, but ideally, you will want to scrunch this into wet hair. My best results so far paired with a leave in conditioner, a styling cream, and a gel (a very hydrating gel). I am excited to try with other combinations and without the other gel, too. There's so many possibilities, and aside from the learning curve, it's a great product that smells fantastic and has GREAT hold. The key to success is proper hydration and pairing, which is what you could say about any product, really. This mousse is INCREDIBLE!!! When you first apply it can feel drying and a bit sticky, but once it dries you can scrunch out the crunch and it leaves you with soft, defined, and decently held waves/curls. I found that this is THE BEST product I have ever used for air drying my hair. It comes out soft, not stringy or crunchy like other mousses. It also hold my curl all day. The next day I just use a spray water bottle, wet my hair, and scrunch in a little more mousse, let it air dry, and my results are just as good as day one. Best second day results I have ever had. I’ve used mousse in my hair for years. My mother got this mousse for herself and gave it to me because her hair is more on the wavy side and didn’t really work for her hair so she thought I should give it a try. I was super excited- it smells great, it has cute packaging. However, once I started applying it to my hair I realized it wasn’t going to work for me either. It made my hair feel instantly dry, it matted up my curls and did not define them and made my skin itch. I decided to give it a couple more tries, putting in different amounts of it and more moisturizing products and still, my hair felt dry and clumpy using this product. I'm a fan of the Bumble and Bumble mouse but it is pretty pricy. I have been giving more low-cost options a try lately and decided to buy this on a whim. It 100% smells like lemon cake. I don't mind that, but I was curious what the whole scent debate was about. When you do start to dispense the product, a lot comes out at once. It is a really light mouse, but it is also kind of thick. For having fine, 3B hair, I was worried. I worked it into my hair and combed it through. My hair was really wet as a note. Then I scrunched it with a microfiber towel and let my hair do its thing. It is really soft and bouncy and is holding its shape without being crunchy. So far so good. I have used Garnier Fructise Curl Construct Mousse for quite a few years now and it's one of my favorite mousse's. I can always count on it to leave my hair shiny, soft, have light bouncy curls/waves. I like to scrunch my hair a lot this stuff is perfect for that. Since my hair isn't naturally curly I have had a lot of other brands fail to help achieve a tight wavy look. So this particular can in Extra strong hold definitely helps me to create this specific look, and it does very well! I usually use my hair dryer with the round diffuser attached to the end, and before I take it to my hair I get a handful of this mousse and start to scrunch the ends of my hair up to between the mid length my roots. And I always end up with perfect wavy/curly hair that feels light, soft, smells pretty good too! It also helps keep the frizz down has an all day hold that I cant find in any other brand of mousse that I've tried. I highly recommend this mousse, it's amazing!alisha.s
I am writing this review for BOTH the products I received from influenster in exchange for my honest review….so the reviews will be similar because thats the way ive used them, combined together. 🙂 My natural curls are un-ruley, course, and have a mind of their own but I was super impressed with this "curl shape" gel COMBINED with the "curl costruct" moouse as they held my curls and they were defined but soft and usually if it's a softer product my curls don't hold as well but they did with this combination. I will definitely be trying some of the other Garnier Fructis curl products. If your a curly girl I ABSOLUTELY recommend you try these products because they really do work and the price is un-beatable! I spend so much money on products for my hair and who knew that if I just try a few products that actually work for my hair type because Garnier Fructis YOU GOT IT RIGHT!! And I can't say that for most brands that aren't the high end salon brands! The smell is nice, it's not strong at all and has a nice light smell. I received this product in a complimentary VoxBox Influenster sent me and I was truly excited. And then very quickly disappointed. I know what mousse does and how it feels so in comparison to many other mousses I had tried this product is great. Just not for what I was trying to achieve which is soft voluminous curls. I would only be able to use this product liberally because if not it gets sticky, stiff and creates that “wet” look. It’s great if you want a slick back ponytail or for baby hairs or even just a strong hold but not for soft fluffy hair like mine. My hair wouldn’t curl in the areas that had too much product. I’ve had better experiences with different products. It depends what you’re looking for. This is deffinetly a 5 strong hold. I use mousse for scrunching my curls and this works perfect for it is worth the splurge! Stock up when there’s a sale! It smells good!! Good for after shower curl styling/plopping. Pleasant natural smell. Hair is really soft and feels like it's getting moisturized. Curls feel malleable. I really like this mousse for my waves/curls but I wish it combated humidity. it sadly doesn't hold up throughout the hot days either, regardless of scrunching out the light crunch or not. my hair is between chin and tops of shoulders and cut shaggy so I know its not the length weighing it down and i only use one other product with it, Olaplex smoothing bond styling creme. overall though i do like it a lot. but once this bottle is finished ill be on the hunt for another mousse that can withstand the heat and humidity.kalirocker
So i had really high hopes for this because the brand looked interesting and the smell was great. I tried it once on freshly washed hair to see what it could do as a stand alone product. The answer was…. absolutely nothing. I saw my waves starting to leave their clumps even while i was putting it through my wet hair because it encouraged so much frizz. I chalked it up to not using it right so i used it again a few days later on damp unwashed hair with my normal defining cream and it looked promising! For about 2 hours after it dried at least. Then my hair was just a poofy frizzy mess. I may try it again and use my gel, but i am no lomger feeling optimistic about this product. It smells nice and l3aves my hair soft but does absolutely nothing for definition and frizz on my hair.Ry

I have thoroughly been enjoying Mielle's products since my first proper introduction to them about 3 months ago. I heard about Mielle while I was wearing locs. So I really didn't pay attention to this company because I wasn't apart of their customer demographic. Most of 2020, I was battling cancer and lost all of my hair. Yes, Im free of it now and actually have some hair on my head again. I was spoiled with 3 years of get up and go hair. I literally owned one bottle of shampoo, retightened my roots 2 to 3 times a year and my anthem was, "I woke up like this." So dealing with loose hair felt foreign to me. More so than it feeling foreign were the PTSD flash backs of me trying to style my loose natural hair. I admit it, in the past I wasn't as accepting of my natural curl pattern. I wanted big 3b curls while God blessed me with 4a/c curls. So the thought of going back to wet sets, twist outs and tons of heavy gel scared me. What impresses me the most with Mielle's products, including this Curl Defining Mousse w/ Hold, is that it is so easy to style my hair. You would think I could just slap anything into my short 3c/4a hair (chemo curls) and it look good. Noooo, this theory was quickly disproven especially when trying other brands. I picked up a sample packet of the Curl Defining Custard at the local Dollar General and I was hooked ever since. Although, The Curl Defining Custard is perfect as is with the shine, definition and hold, I still felt it wasn't soft enough as I wanted. When the bulk of Covid is over, I want hands running through my hair. 😉 LOL It was suggested by Mielle staff to try the Brazilian Curly Cocktail Curl Cream under it. Yes, my hair was still shiny and defined and now it was soft. That combo made my hair super curly also. Its just that my hair took forever to dry and it was a lot of effort to put through my hair. That leads me to this Curl Defining Mousse w/Hold. O-M-G, this is truly wash and go hair with this product. I just run in through sections and I'm done. It dries clear and without flakes. My hair doesn't even have to be soaking wet. It almost looks like I wet set my hair on perm rods. It has the shine of setting lotion and the soft feel too. But my hair has hold and bounce. I just stocked up on this product because I haven't seen it in stores yet and this current price is looking really good. With products like these I don't think I want to go back to wearing locs. In addition to how well the products work, can we talk about the packaging. There are pumps for most of Mielle's products and you can easily lock them closed. Amazing!Dany J.

I love this product🙌🏽🥰. The journey for finding the right natural hair products has been a challenge, but I can truly say this product does its job. It works, I did a Aztec with Apple cider vinegar clay mask. After washing it out I added the rice water drops with Mielle Babassu & Mint deep conditioner. I then followed it up with Rosemary Strengthening Shampoo, and added the White Peony Leave in Conditioner. I selection my hair in four twisted it up and slept in a satin cap. The next morning I reapplied water with mist water bottle, the pomegranate/honey defining mousse added two other gels that’s not in the Mielle collection to get my curl define look. I say all this to say even though I substitute other products in, over all the main products were Mielle. I bought this to try after using the curl talk cream and gel religiously for a while which I LOVE. I have mostly type 2b/c hair with some 3A pieces and don't usually have a problem with definition/volume, but this pretty much gave me neither just made my hair frizzy and I really don't like the way it feels to the touch. It leaves a pretty strong cast that is difficult to get out even when scrunching with oil and if you live in a super humid place like me, then so much humidity will make your hair crunchy all over again. I ignored the reviews in hopes that maybe it would work for me to simplify my routine, but I wish I had just repurchased my tried and true instead. I honestly prefer just my hair air dried with only a light leave in (pretty loose waves-not like what I get with the cream/gel but doable) to what this gives me. I'm gunna try to power through and finish this but I have a feeling I won't. Listen to the reviews and just save yourself the time and money it's not worth the like 2% chance this will actually work for you. Although I think if you have super fine, extremely loose waves and you reallllyyyy struggle with volume this may work for you. Maybe. Possibly.Mayham27
Very sticky mousse! Dispensing this foam and rubbing it between my hands felt like I had just opened a bottle of hair spray and poured it into my hands. I couldn't believe how sticky this stuff was! I used a very small amount, applied to my roots first and the combed the rest through my hair with my fingers. After scrunching my hair, washing my hands and blow drying on the lowest setting with a diffuser I was left with wet-looking, crunchy curls. Trying to reactivate the next day by misting my hair with a little water and letting air dry I was left with really dry, hard hair feeling like I had used lots of hair spray. Couldn't get my fingers through it, no way a comb or brush would make it. So happy to wash this stuff out of my hair. Throwing this in the trash and will look for something else. Probably the worst hair product I have ever used and that's saying a lot!Debby
I have low porosity, medium density wavy/looser curly hair. The bottom part of my hair has tighter ringlets/curls while the hair closer to my crown is a bit looser and tends to be weighed down or fall. I use this after applying leave-in and curl cream on wet hair and scrunch in! If I’m using gel, I don’t usually use this since my hair doesn’t really need both! It smells really good (the entire line does!) and it doesn’t weigh my hair down! It’s really easy to emulsify, you don’t need a lot of product. It helps control my frizz and defines my curls much better and it’s so easy to refresh day 2-3 hair with this product too!maria.m

Tressame 4 has been my hairspray for years. Unscented, good hold without being sticky or wet. But the last can I bought with the "new look" was a totally different hairspray. I bought unscented as always but the smell is horrible, strong and overbearing. It is a wet spray as well. My fine hair goes limp with this "new look". I am returning that can to Walmart. I went to Kroger and bought 3 cans with the old look. How my curls will turn out day to day is a little like playing hair roulette. I have tried hundreds of products but ultimately my curls have a mind of their own. I knew something happened when I couldn't find this mousse at any stores and when I did find it (the old formula) it was way more expensive. This new one doesn't work like the other and I can't even find that one anywhere either! I've been using flawless curls for, I want to say 10 plus years maybe, and it never failed. I even had curls the next all I had to do was wet my hands and style. Companies always changing something good or discontinuing products people love. I heard other reviews and videos rave about this mousse and had to try it. I have to say, they are right. I have fine texture, low porosity natural hair. My hair is short, but when stretched the back comes to my collar bone and the front comes to the end of my nose (to give you a reference). I get good definition using a gel, but this product really defined my hair, and I had more body. Body is a problem for those of us with fine hair. My curls lasted 4 days, especially in the top which is longer. My hair is shorter on the sides and since I sleep on my side the definition fades sooner. I still had a little definition on my sides day 4, but the top still had curls. The first time I used it I only used a moisturizing deep conditioner and the mousse. It did great defining my curls, but left my hair very dry. The next time I used a moisturizing deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, a moisturizing gel, and a sealing oil with the mousse. Sounds like a lot, but this is the process I have to use every wash day to keep my hair moisturized for 3 days. I did not have any problems with dry hair at all this time. I have thick heavy waves/curls. The product worked well when I used it with a leave in conditioner. The day I was in a rush and didn't put a leave in my hair was course and felt dehydrated. It doesn't help to clump your curls on it's own, but was easy to style and mold my curls with my brush. Dried quickly and smelled good. I didn't get a chance to use it for a long period of time to see the overall quality. The bottle untwisted just enough while under my sink and spilled. Luckily I had it in a container. The bottle easily untwist. You should keep the product right side up and make sure it doesn't knock over. Unfortunately it's the bottle quality that keeps me from buying this again. I would suggest checking The Doux’s channel on YouTube to see how she uses the styler depending on the length of the hair. I have a short natural tapered cut and the mousse works best went I finger twirl the top and front. I love the slip and the shine. Even though the hold is soft – it survives my sweaty workouts. I bought thus product to use to style my lace wig. It helped style my wig perfectly upon install. By day 3 of using the foaming lotion to style my baby hair i had some irritation in my forehead but it wasn’t too bad. I took a break for a few days from using it or styling my wig & when I used it again it started to severely burn my forehead. I wiped the product off & did continued use. I took my wig off 2 days later and had a chemical burn across my entire forehead. It burned so bad & took a while to clear up. My skin is far from sensitive so I know that wasn’t the issue. This is now a staple in my hair styling routine. I have been spraying this on my hair every day before I walk out the door. It is a very lightweight hairspray and the hold is perfect for my needs. What I most love about this product is that it keeps my hair safe from frizz throughout the day. I have found that if I spray too much it sometimes leaves a slight white residue on my hair but this doesn’t happen very often and it’s not very noticeable. While a bit annoying, the benefits outweigh the cons for me, as long as I don’t go overboard on any particular section my hair stays almost completely frizz free throughout the day, regardless of humidity!araceli.r
I received this sample from Influenster for my honest review. To begin, my hair is type 1 and slightly on the dry side. It thin to medium, unprocessed and is fairly silky. For me, this worked okay, not great (although I’m not one to style my hair often). It has a decent hold and decent humidity resistance. The crunch is expected for a firm hold so I did not mind it as long as it held my hair in place. For an average day, it held my hair for a few hours (not all day). The smell is good, but I have a sensitive nose so the smell does linger on for quite a bit which I don’t particularly enjoy. One concern I do have is that I noticed a bit of a white residue on my hair with this. I should mention, however, that my sister tried it and said she liked it and that it held her hair well. I will start by saying that I deducted a star because it says this is a humidity-resistant hairspray and I was super excited about that element of this product but I didn't notice any humidity protection. Now onto the things I like about this hairspray… this hairspray REALLY dries fast, like almost instantly and I like that a lot. This hairspray also holds my hairstyle extremely well and for the whole day. The thing I love most about this hairspray is that it provides so much volume to my hair! I just did like the bottle said and lifted my hair and sprayed close to my roots. I've used a couple of different volumizing hair sprays but this one provided the best results, it just didn't last because the humidity flattened my hair and curls. If you don't like scents, you may not like this. It has a hairspray smell mixed with a slight floral type of smell. I like it, it smells better than other hairsprays to me. I found it pretty hard to wash this hairspray out of my hair, which is a good thing because it probably holds up well in the rain. Even though I deducted a star I'd still recommend this because it's a great hairspray, I love the volume it added to my hair!

When I am going to use a mousse, I always have some expectation of a certain “feeling” in terms of the texture of my hair. The reviews that state that it is difficult to run your fingers through are true… it is… but it feels more like strong hold hair spray. In areas I put too much, it is stiffer but if I did it lightly and directly on my roots, it does not feel that way. I have fine hair for reference. Now the important part and the reason I purchased the product…volume. I have SO MUCH volume. Even when I flatten my hair and then try to “fluff” it up again, it’s so voluminous.

I'm really tired of mousse that are too strong or sticky. This mousse is GREAT and no sticky feel. It really does a great job giving my hair lift. I have layered, color treated shoulder length hair. Sometimes I style it straight, sometimes in a natural wave. This works well either way. And did I say, no sticky feel??!Mature and still wearing makeup!
I bought this mousse looking for a little more lift with my blowouts and unfortunately I ended up returning it. I added some volume and thickness to my hair for sure but I hated how it made my hair feel! So weighed down and almost like I couldnt get a brush through it! When i rub this product into my hands to apply to my hair it has a very off putting smell. I have used it a few times and it has done nothing for my hair as far as how it looks after i use it and does not make my hair smell nice. I have used Tresemme shampoo and conditioner products for a long time and really like how it makes my hair feel and smell. I wasted my money. I absolutely love this product. Not only does it help with frizz without stickiness but it smells great and leaves hair soft. I’d highly recommend it. The only issue I have is that I used a quarter of a bottle at one time and that wasn’t all my hair. Perhaps a spray would be better and if would have used less of it. Man I love this stuff. I use a curl refresh spray from Sexy Hair (I think, it's a blue can) for day two curls, and this stuff for days three to five. It's a little too heavy for clean hair but perfect for all the other days. There is a learning curve. Too much will make hair crunchy and gross, too little will do nothing. It took two uses to find the right amount for my hair. I have shoulder length wavy/curly hair, medium fine thickness with A LOT of hair. I pump four times in my hands and prayer hand it down a clump of hair as wide as my palms. It takes me four goes to get around my whole head. Then I scrunch lightly and done! It does leave hair feeling a little wet at first but dries quickly and my hair looks better than day one. No frizz at all, very defined curls. I honestly…love any type of mousse that can help my hair have more volume. This is one of those. I had gotten this mousse on sale at my local Walgreens with a coupon. So when I did try it out for the first time…I couldn't believe how little of product I used on my hair…and it still turned out fabulous…and side note: I have long hair…and I actually use just a little mousse combined with the hairspray …man..I couldn't believe how the outcome of my hair was…it was awesome!! ❤❤ my wavy curls lasted all day!!! I really love this product and a lot less expensive than Aquage root lift. Shake really well, hold the can upside down and apply directly to parted hair at scalp only. I apply to five sections from forehead to crown. Then I mush it all around on my scalp and let sit while putting on my makeup. Then blow dry and wow lots of volumne!!! Love, love, love!!KellCali
