I’ve tried so many different gels, mousses, creams, oils, to enhance my poor little damaged waves and I always come back to this. My hair started getting wavier in my teens but I just didn’t take care of my hair very much so my little waves were not flourishing as they could’ve. This product definitely helped enhance them while nourishing them to lock in my conditioner. My hair is slowly graduating from very damaged 2a to relatively damaged 2b hair! I love this product. It locks in your conditioner and adds that moisture you need while sealing up your waves. I like to put a little conditioner on my hair while it’s still really wet from the shower, then comb through my hair with a brush (if I use my fingers like I’m supposed to then the top of my hair at the roots gets really wonky so I have to use a wider wet brush to get some of it normal) then I put this stuff in and I scrunch it up and put it in my little hair towel and I’m done! It works it’s magic, I take off the towel and go to bed!Alli

I wish I'd looked at the ingredients more closely before buying this mousse, though, because it contains propane, which honestly just freaks me out. I still tried it because I spent money on it, but I wasn't super impressed. The mousse is ***VERY*** thick, so I mixed very small amounts with water before scrunching it into my hair. After diffusing and scrunching out the crunch, my curls were actually very well-defined and had good volume, but even though I used VERY little – an amount that was maybe the size of a plum for my entire head of hair (falls between jawline and shoulder) – my roots felt extremely gummy and gross. I know it's the mousse because the only other product I used was the ultra-light leave-in I've been using for years. I can't imagine being able to use much less product, though, just because of how the mousse comes out of the can. So overall, it does define curls, it may leave a gummy residue (my hair may really be just too fine), and it contains scary ingredients. The scent is also pleasant, but very strong and appears to last (I did my hair hours ago and I still smell like coconut). I was quite looking forward to using this most from all my purchases. However, I was quite disappointed. It is more of a foam not mousse. The hold is not there and my hair is low porosity type 2b hair and i did not find it reducing frizz either. I pair this mousse with the Curl Enhancing Smoothie from the same product line and they work really well together! I section my hair and evenly distribute the Smoothie, then I use this Mousse to focus on my ends. Finally blowdry with a diffuser attachment. When I use both products together my curls clump together nicely and my ends stay frizz-free. I can also use the Mousse on its own for a more natural/less defined curl. I have wavy/curly hair, medium texture. Pre-pandemic, I was recommended Moroccanoil by my stylist. But, since the product I was using at the time was working well, I didn't bother trying Moroccanoil. However, recently, my usual product reformulated and changed drastically for the worse. It no longer worked. So, I decided to try a few products from Moroccanoil (oil treatment, curl defining cream, and curl control mousse). To my dismay, all the products I tried smell like alcohol and aftershave. While I do get a little more bounce and a little more curl than my previous brand, non of the products I tried is great with frizz control. I've tried letting my hair air dry and I've also used a diffuser on low and medium settings. I'm fine with paying for a product that works. But, I feel that I have been ripped off. I LOVE this product and this whole brand. I was sent a sample of the curl defining cream and the smell won me over instantly. It just makes your hair smell so good. My husband thought it was my shampoo or conditioner, but he told me my hair smelt so good the first time I used this product. I even went and bought the perfect defense heat protector spray after they sent me this sample. I use it after I curl my hair with my straightener and it just makes my hair smell amazing, reduces any frizz left, and makes my curls bouncy. I also let my daughter use it and she loved it as well. This product works! The only thing is that there are other products on the market for curl defining that are very similar for way less and that’s why I took off a whole star. As of now, I’ve stuck with Cantu’s curl defining cream so I can compare it to that. Unlike Cantu’s, this cream is super lightweight! Doesn’t feel heavy or greasy but still gets the job done. My curls were super shiny and they were defined. I put mousse over it and it did a wonderful job of keeping my curls frizz free. The smell alone was amazing. I would only get this when I want to splurge. Although it did wonders, it’s still not something I’d spend $36 on. These products tend to run out quick if you have curly hair or long hair and it’s just not worth it. I first discovered Oribe years ago through Birchbox and have been a super fan ever since. The Curl Shaping Mousse smells, like all Oribe products, divine and the benefits don’t stop there. My curls are bouncy, healthy and shiny looking and best of all, feel hydrated and so full. You really only need about a half-dollar dized dollop (depending on the length of your hair. With 3b curls that are dry, coarse, long, tangly and graying…I've been struggling lately. I want so badly to keep my hair long and grow it longer than I've ever had the patience to. I purchased this Ouidad VitalCurl mousse today (last one on the shelf!), because I was desperately trying to just get my hair to look good. I got home with my new product and hit the shower right away. After washing/conditioning I put a bit of my previously purchased Ouidad VitalCurl Tress Effects Gel in my palm and added a a nice dollop of this mousse on top and mixed it together until no foam remained and I was left with a wonderfully slippery gel-consistency. I repeated the process once more to make sure I coated everything. I used an Olivia Garden brush to distribute the product and let it dry naturally. It didn't take as long to fully dry as when I use my gel with other hair creams and my hair had a cast that was so perfect it still looked wet when it was fully dry. I was so happy with the results that I feel like I can let this unruly mom keep on growing. At least my ponytail would look good and not a frizzy mess like it usually does. This is THE one product from Ouidad that I feel I can't do without. Granted, I haven't used it by itself but when a curly girl finds her perfect recipe, it's a challenge to stray from it for fear of ruining the outcome. As a side note, I have used the gel mentioned above by itself and I loved the curl formation, however, it's a very foamy gel once I start applying it and it makes a squooshing noise and turns white. If your hair loves the Tress Effects Gel, try mixing it with this amazing Tress Effects VitalCurl Mousse. I hope you'll have the amazing results I got with this cocktail. HG status!Happylovejoy
I've Purchased 3 bottles already! I'm new to the wavy/curly hair game and when I tell you this is the only product that has done what I needed it to do….I've tried at least 3 other hair mousses and none of them compare. The ONLY reason I did not give 5 stars was because its fairly a pricier hair mousse and runs out VERY quickly. 1 bottle would last me a month and I usually scrunch in my hair 2-3 times a week.Janel K.

My hair does /not/ love a protein heavy product. A monthly protein bond treatment and this product is about all my hair can handle without becoming dry and unmanageable. This was the first protein heavy product I (knowingly) bought, and it has changed the game! Shampoos and conditioners/masks are often far too much, but this product is amazing! The foam is light and has a lovely smell, and it allows me to control how much of the protein product I use on any given day. I love the day-to-day hold this product gives me, and it has helped my hair become healthier and more defined over months of use. I am absolutely in love with this Cursmith Bouncy Strenght Volume Foam! My hair is volumized and full of bouncy waves without being frizzy or crunchy. I typically style my hair with mermaid waves and this foam is a necessity to get beautiful flowing waves. I hate how other foams crunch and make my hair hard. This foam is soft and airy. I use it on my towel-dried hair before I style and it's great on dry hair for added volume throughout the day. I also love the ingredients. Things I like: – thin consistency – smells amazing – gives great definition to hair – and gives even more amazing volume to hair (as advertised) Now to what I hate about this product…. – the residue it leaves on my hair?? I have low porosity, fine hair, and low density hair so honestly it's most likely just my hair type but I have attached a picture of what using just this product with the tiniest amount of curl cream which is also from curlsmith (the hold me softly cream) made my hair look like…. It made my hair LOOK fantastic but it left my hair FEELING the complete opposite. In the selfie I have attached, it was day 1 hair…. By the time I went to shower before bed (around 10pm), I decided to just wash my hair again because my hair felt soooo heavy in product which I'm very careful in preventing. You know how your skin feels like after you rub in Vaseline because of how dry your skin was? You know, that like slightly sticky/heavy residue on your skin? Yeah that's exactly what my hair felt like (except for the sticky part, my hair has never felt sticky from this product). I was my hair once a week and clarify my hair once every other week so product buildup and that excess residue feeling has not been a common problem for me but whenever I use this product my hair feels like I haven't washed my hair in about 2 weeks?? I'm not sure how else to explain it to be honest, this product gets a 3/10 from me. I really wish it didn't leave that residue feeling in my hair because it does a wonderful job in giving volume while maintaining definition but I can't ever maintain that day 1 hair because by day 2, my hair looks like day 10 hair….. I’ve tried so many different gels, mousses, creams, oils, to enhance my poor little damaged waves and I always come back to this. My hair started getting wavier in my teens but I just didn’t take care of my hair very much so my little waves were not flourishing as they could’ve. This product definitely helped enhance them while nourishing them to lock in my conditioner. My hair is slowly graduating from very damaged 2a to relatively damaged 2b hair! I love this product. It locks in your conditioner and adds that moisture you need while sealing up your waves. I like to put a little conditioner on my hair while it’s still really wet from the shower, then comb through my hair with a brush (if I use my fingers like I’m supposed to then the top of my hair at the roots gets really wonky so I have to use a wider wet brush to get some of it normal) then I put this stuff in and I scrunch it up and put it in my little hair towel and I’m done! I have fine, low-density 2C-3A curls and generally follow CGM, but I wanted to try a new mousse because it's still not spring and I'm super bored! I wish I'd looked at the ingredients more closely before buying this mousse, though, because it contains propane, which honestly just freaks me out. I still tried it because I spent money on it, but I wasn't super impressed. The mousse is ***VERY*** thick, so I mixed very small amounts with water before scrunching it into my hair. After diffusing and scrunching out the crunch, my curls were actually very well-defined and had good volume, but even though I used VERY little – an amount that was maybe the size of a plum for my entire head of hair (falls between jawline and shoulder) – my roots felt extremely gummy and gross. I know it's the mousse because the only other product I used was the ultra-light leave-in I've been using for years. I can't imagine being able to use much less product, though, just because of how the mousse comes out of the can. So overall, it does define curls, it may leave a gummy residue (my hair may really be just too fine), and it contains scary ingredients. The scent is also pleasant, but very strong and appears to last (I did my hair hours ago and I still smell like coconut). I wouldn't buy this again, but I'll probably save this as a back-up product in case I run out of my holy grails – and stay far away from open flames, yikes.CB

Yes it's expensive, BUT it's also the best curling mousse I've ever tried. The VOLUME and hold alone make it a must-have for me, but on top of that it's great to have it in your hair from the day before when you're refreshing your day-two curls. I have wavy hair after 1/2 a lifetime of straight hair. I never know how to deal with it. It isn't straight & if I wear it straight it looks like a wig. I bought this to try after using the curl talk cream and gel religiously for a while which I LOVE. I have mostly type 2b/c hair with some 3A pieces and don't usually have a problem with definition/volume, but this pretty much gave me neither just made my hair frizzy and I really don't like the way it feels to the touch. It leaves a pretty strong cast that is difficult to get out even when scrunching with oil and if you live in a super humid place like me, then so much humidity will make your hair crunchy all over again. I ignored the reviews in hopes that maybe it would work for me to simplify my routine, but I wish I had just repurchased my tried and true instead. I honestly prefer just my hair air dried with only a light leave in (pretty loose waves-not like what I get with the cream/gel but doable) to what this gives me. I'm gunna try to power through and finish this but I have a feeling I won't. Listen to the reviews and just save yourself the time and money it's not worth the like 2% chance this will actually work for you. Very sticky mousse! Dispensing this foam and rubbing it between my hands felt like I had just opened a bottle of hair spray and poured it into my hands. I couldn't believe how sticky this stuff was! I used a very small amount, applied to my roots first and the combed the rest through my hair with my fingers. After scrunching my hair, washing my hands and blow drying on the lowest setting with a diffuser I was left with wet-looking, crunchy curls. Trying to reactivate the next day by misting my hair with a little water and letting air dry I was left with really dry, hard hair feeling like I had used lots of hair spray. Couldn't get my fingers through it, no way a comb or brush would make it. So happy to wash this stuff out of my hair. Throwing this in the trash and will look for something else. Probably the worst hair product I have ever used and that's saying a lot!Debby
I have low porosity, medium density wavy/looser curly hair. The bottom part of my hair has tighter ringlets/curls while the hair closer to my crown is a bit looser and tends to be weighed down or fall. I use this after applying leave-in and curl cream on wet hair and scrunch in! If I’m using gel, I don’t usually use this since my hair doesn’t really need both! It smells really good (the entire line does!) and it doesn’t weigh my hair down! It’s really easy to emulsify, you don’t need a lot of product. It helps control my frizz and defines my curls much better and it’s so easy to refresh day 2-3 hair with this product too!maria.m

I used the old version of this for years. It was the only product that worked on my naturally curly hair, allowing me to put this in my hair and go. This new version is terrible. Not only does it not work for my hair (it makes it a frizzy mess), but the top broke off both bottles I ordered on the first use. Please bring back the previous formulation!! I used the prior version for several years on my 2b/2c curls. My hair is fine and I need the hold of a lightweight mousse. I bought this new version without realizing the new nozzle went with a new formulation of the product. It went from a whipped cream consistency to something that looks and feels like the bubbles at the end of your bubble bath. It falls apart immediately and you can't tell how much to use without your hair getting crunchy and weighed down. My hair looks bedraggled. I heard other reviews and videos rave about this mousse and had to try it. I have to say, they are right. I have fine texture, low porosity natural hair. My hair is short, but when stretched the back comes to my collar bone and the front comes to the end of my nose (to give you a reference). I get good definition using a gel, but this product really defined my hair, and I had more body. Body is a problem for those of us with fine hair. My curls lasted 4 days, especially in the top which is longer. My hair is shorter on the sides and since I sleep on my side the definition fades sooner. I still had a little definition on my sides day 4, but the top still had curls. The first time I used it I only used a moisturizing deep conditioner and the mousse. It did great defining my curls, but left my hair very dry. The next time I used a moisturizing deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, a moisturizing gel, and a sealing oil with the mousse. Sounds like a lot, but this is the process I have to use every wash day to keep my hair moisturized for 3 days. I did not have any problems with dry hair at all this time. I have thick heavy waves/curls. The product worked well when I used it with a leave in conditioner. The day I was in a rush and didn't put a leave in my hair was course and felt dehydrated. It doesn't help to clump your curls on it's own, but was easy to style and mold my curls with my brush. Dried quickly and smelled good. I didn't get a chance to use it for a long period of time to see the overall quality. The bottle untwisted just enough while under my sink and spilled. Luckily I had it in a container. The bottle easily untwist. You should keep the product right side up and make sure it doesn't knock over. Unfortunately it's the bottle quality that keeps me from buying this again. I bought thus product to use to style my lace wig. It helped style my wig perfectly upon install. By day 3 of using the foaming lotion to style my baby hair i had some irritation in my forehead but it wasn’t too bad. I took a break for a few days from using it or styling my wig & when I used it again it started to severely burn my forehead. I wiped the product off & did continued use. I took my wig off 2 days later and had a chemical burn across my entire forehead. It burned so bad & took a while to clear up. My skin is far from sensitive so I know that wasn’t the issue. This is now a staple in my hair styling routine. I have been spraying this on my hair every day before I walk out the door. It is a very lightweight hairspray and the hold is perfect for my needs. What I most love about this product is that it keeps my hair safe from frizz throughout the day. I have found that if I spray too much it sometimes leaves a slight white residue on my hair but this doesn’t happen very often and it’s not very noticeable. While a bit annoying, the benefits outweigh the cons for me, as long as I don’t go overboard on any particular section my hair stays almost completely frizz free throughout the day, regardless of humidity!araceli.r
I received this sample from Influenster for my honest review. To begin, my hair is type 1 and slightly on the dry side. It thin to medium, unprocessed and is fairly silky. For me, this worked okay, not great (although I’m not one to style my hair often). It has a decent hold and decent humidity resistance. The crunch is expected for a firm hold so I did not mind it as long as it held my hair in place. For an average day, it held my hair for a few hours (not all day). The smell is good, but I have a sensitive nose so the smell does linger on for quite a bit which I don’t particularly enjoy. One concern I do have is that I noticed a bit of a white residue on my hair with this. I should mention, however, that my sister tried it and said she liked it and that it held her hair well. Her hair is denser and thicker than mine and closer to type 2A.padmaja.j

I will start by saying that I deducted a star because it says this is a humidity-resistant hairspray and I was super excited about that element of this product but I didn't notice any humidity protection. Now onto the things I like about this hairspray… this hairspray REALLY dries fast, like almost instantly and I like that a lot. This hairspray also holds my hairstyle extremely well and for the whole day. The thing I love most about this hairspray is that it provides so much volume to my hair! I just did like the bottle said and lifted my hair and sprayed close to my roots. I've used a couple of different volumizing hair sprays but this one provided the best results, it just didn't last because the humidity flattened my hair and curls. If you don't like scents, you may not like this. It has a hairspray smell mixed with a slight floral type of smell. I like it, it smells better than other hairsprays to me. I found it pretty hard to wash this hairspray out of my hair, which is a good thing because it probably holds up well in the rain. Even though I deducted a star I'd still recommend this because it's a great hairspray, I love the volume it added to my hair!

I heard other reviews and videos rave about this mousse and had to try it. I have to say, they are right. I have fine texture, low porosity natural hair. My hair is short, but when stretched the back comes to my collar bone and the front comes to the end of my nose (to give you a reference). I get good definition using a gel, but this product really defined my hair, and I had more body. Body is a problem for those of us with fine hair. My curls lasted 4 days, especially in the top which is longer. My hair is shorter on the sides and since I sleep on my side the definition fades sooner. I still had a little definition on my sides day 4, but the top still had curls. The first time I used it I only used a moisturizing deep conditioner and the mousse. It did great defining my curls, but left my hair very dry. The next time I used a moisturizing deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, a moisturizing gel, and a sealing oil with the mousse. Sounds like a lot, but this is the process I have to use every wash day to keep my hair moisturized for 3 days. I did not have any problems with dry hair at all this time. I have thick heavy waves/curls. The product worked well when I used it with a leave in conditioner. The day I was in a rush and didn't put a leave in my hair was course and felt dehydrated. It doesn't help to clump your curls on it's own, but was easy to style and mold my curls with my brush. Dried quickly and smelled good. I didn't get a chance to use it for a long period of time to see the overall quality. The bottle untwisted just enough while under my sink and spilled. Luckily I had it in a container. The bottle easily untwist. You should keep the product right side up and make sure it doesn't knock over. Unfortunately it's the bottle quality that keeps me from buying this again.
