Don't waste your money AND time buying or even looking into this product. I bought a system last year, 3 TB storage, 4 cameras, wireless, DVR, screen to watch the video from the cameras, app to watch on my phone, etc. Well, cameras disconnect constantly like the signal is to weak or something, video lags and quality is horrible with both the app and the screen it came with. The app now closes constantly plus it has ads on it, sometimes I have to watch an ad if I want to video from my cameras on my phone. Frustrating, disappointing and extremely unsatisfied with this system. Save yourself money and trouble, don't buy this brand.mazb003

Hello, First of all much thought was given to packaging. Everything easy to unpack and understand. Install is easy. kit even has a coupler for encapsulating the connector. We did mount on round non-metallic box. The boxes we used are Home Depot or Lowe's in their electrical dept. Swann Included cable is fine though we used a cable for more distance and CAT5e pin-out is standard. Used continuity tester before making connections. Took a couple days to pre-wire, mount devices, connect NVR, however instantly worked exactly as expected. Even recorded a delivery within minutes of connecting. Camera image is awesome, so many features with NVR and we downloaded the manual. I can see where this would work well in small business situation. Many options for recording and sensing. Read-up it really does a lot. The POE Ethernet option and 4K is really a value especially since installation is very easy. I do have some wiring experience, just take your time and have fun. There are a lot of App options with other Swann systems, the App with this one if fine for our project. Very intuitive and feature rich!HappyDYI
First off, I have to say I love this system! Secondly, instructions and support could use some help, but it could be my patience since I'm a director in IT. Please make sure you update the firmware, and the auto-update does not find the latest version. You need to download it from the site, put in on thumb drive, and install it that way. Another issue is you NEED to use a CAT 6 cable from your Comcast modem to the NVR system. The simple cable caused me so many problems with live view, playback, and phone app. Swann should include a network cable to make sure everyone uses CAT 6, not an old CAT 5e. I was getting constant errors since I didn't have enough bandwidth. 100 MBPS vs. 1000MBPS, yes, new cable fixed that. I still have an issue with playback and two videos showing up on occasion, and hopefully, the wonderful helpdesk can guide me through that. Level 1 support drives me crazy.Rosebud
Three months have passed since this system has been installed. The image resolution is sharpe and the format auto adjust to your tv or monitors resolution. When viewing live or recorded you are able to clearly see faces and licence tags from 20-30ft away (typical distance from front door to the street of a home). Night time clarity is just the same. With the proper lighting color will be restored. I installed a usb stick for saving video. Record time with one cam You will need wifi to view from the app. Having said that… When viewing from the app the clarity is grainy, but thats to be expected as it uploads from your home and then through a server somewhere. Sucks but is what it is. Calling the help line to get automated assistance is a bummer, but a little maneuvering through the system and I was able to get a customer service rep. He was awesome! Very polite and patient and took the time to help me through the system. Some of the past reviews gripe about the mouse… Its 2019 and you can purchase a wireless mouse of any color and design, so… I will say the price is a bit steep and out of range for most of the hard working folks like myself, but save the $$$ and you'll be really impressed with the money you spent. Clarity is key when buying a security system, so dont cheap out and windup with muddy video clarity like what you see on tv shows like first 48. Wanted a wire free system with built in storage and no subscription fees from a trusted quality source and fair price. This was the only product on the market I felt meets that. None of the systems is perfect and this one is no exception but overall very satisfied and I feel we made the best choice. A couple things I wish were better but I think this may apply to all wire free devices. The person detection is missing persons some of the time . The range for person detection seems to max out at a about 8 metres which is half way from the entrance the camera is covering. So if I want person motion activation at the entrance I will be forced to move the camera but 8m closer to the entrance and then lose same distance of the walk/alley. Even still can't figure out why it is missing so many persons walking down the same path and not others. It's as thought we have a vampire visiting?! Tried motion detection but get too any false alarms which will run down battery to fast. Another thing is we find range from base to cameras is not as powerful as we hoped. I would say the signal strength drops off faster than say our internet coverage over the same distance. Again I'm certain this would be no better for any other similar capacity wireless camera make. Just bought the L42481-4AA6-E 6 camera system from Lorex.com after reading several positive reviews about the Lorex camera systems of being one of the best. The cameras themselves are great, they seemed to be well built and they have a great picture and the FOV is amazing. The installation was easy and Lorex provided you with everything you needed to mount the cameras. I love the idea of the battery packs and the option of being able to plug them in for continuous charging if you have an outlet nearby. Also with the battery packs, they are easy to change out without having to take down the camera which means you don’t have to realign the camera every time. Another nice feature is the ability to record local to each camera with a SD card, which you must purchase separately but a nice feature and keeps your stuff out of the cloud. The other thing I liked is the ability to have access to all the features on the camera without having to subscribe to a monthly fee, which really drew me to the Lorex system. Trying to get the cameras setup to the NVR has been nothing but a challenge and the Cirrus App in my opinion could use a lot of work as it's not too intuitive to arm the cameras or disarm them. Maybe I'm just not use to it, but it seems to be not user friendly like others I have used. To get the cameras to setup to record on motion or get the cameras to view live through the app and on the NVR has been sketchy at best. The live video seemed to studder and wasn't very smooth. The picture also seemed to be blurry at times as the camera tried to connect through the app and sometimes the cameras won't even respond while using the app. Also with the live view, it only lasts for like 30 secs then shuts down or goes into standby, seems if you are controlling the camera, you would have more flexibility to leave the camera on or turn it off when ready. There is also no option to just arm all the cameras to trigger on motion, you must go into each individual camera and set it up that way. I tried to setup my cameras to record last night knowing that my son was coming home late to test the system, went through the process to set it all up. When I received the notification that the cameras had triggered and when I went to check for the recorded videos, nothing. Nothing was recorded and I can't figure out why. Went through gamut of settings again and everything seemed to be correct as far as I could tell. I wanted to rate these higher as they seemed to be the best with access to all the features without having to subscribe to a monthly service, but with the challenges of trying to setup for recording, the issues with the app and the lack of user-friendly setup options, I couldn’t rate it any higher than a 3.Mark
Didn't realize the NVR was the wireless access point. This is good I guess if you have a very small area but you can't use your existing wifi network to hook the cameras up. I was hoping they were all network configurable and go from there. I had to contact tech support to get the right software. Browser only supports Internet Explorer and you have to google and find out you need to add your NVR as a legacy / secure site which no modern browser supports anymore. Picture quality is decent. NVR has some quirks but you can filter by motion or person, provided you set up your camera to do motion or person. I was hoping it would motion capture and then add a person tag if a person was in it, it does not do this. Motion / Deterrence seems to always be on and not trigger properly. Very poor documentation I had to call and ask what most things did. Batteries last fine. If you want a truly wireless system and you have a very small footprint / open area this system will work. If you have anything more than that or want some customization, select a different product. Oh tech support was decent, and they were easy to get a hold of.Derek L.

This system is ONLY for a teck savey person. There was NO install/operate CD or paper manual. Swann wants you to contact them by email, live chat or phone to find out how to use their stuff. Evan when I tried to get the manual I couldn't. It was so confusing when I clicked on the model # I had it wouldn't work. Why can't Swann make it so easy that the customer has everything in the box explaining installation, operation etc. They should make it so that the customer does NOT HAVE TO CONTACT SWANN FOR ANY REASON BECAUSE THE CUSTOMER CAN INSTALL AND OPERATE WITHOUT QUESTION. MAKE IT SO A 10YR OLD BOY CAN INSTALL. THEY WOULD SAVE LARGE MONEY ON NOT PAYING FOR EMPLOYEES WAGES NEEDED FOR EMAIL, LIVE CHAT OR PHONE. In about 8 months 3 out of 4 cameras had flickering security lights when triggered. When the first one started acting up I initiated a warranty claim by email. This was a fairly lengthy process, by the time I had the first camera approved for replacement the others had failed. I asked if I could get those handled at the same time and was told I would have to start separate claims. It is not worth the hassle to do this for me. I just turned off the security light function. This a very nice security system. I feel much safer having installed it around my house. That being said, the installation was probably the hardest part. Having to run multiple wires throughout the house was a bit of a chore and time consuming. Once that was done and I placed and screwed the cameras in, set up was pretty straight forward. The cameras produce high quality imagery, better than anything I have had in the past. My only complaint about this is the night vision. With the camera in the front of the house, I get color, but the others are in black and white and slightly grainy, but I am still able to see the footage. The DVR is pretty nice. It has tons of functions and settings to mess with. A little overwhelming at first…it took me a while to get the hang of it. I am not a fan of the corded mouse. I really would have preferred a wireless one, but it works well. Setting up the cameras with the app so I could view the footage remotely was not easy. It took several attempts to get it going and I am receiving some false alerts. The cameras are small enough to not look tacky on the house, but large enough to let people know they are there. They are solidly made. Bottom line, this is a high quality system that takes some time to install and has a bit of a learning curve. I purchased this setup because Lorex stated 4K camera capability. I needed something better than the Wyze cams that I am currently using at my cottage. Using the Lorex 4K cameras for two weeks now, I am disappointed with the resolution which seems to be equal to, or just slightly better than the said Wyze cam at 1080p. It's almost impossible to read license plates and see details in a person's face at 25 feet away with this so called 4K camera – which renders these Lorex cameras useless for providing detail to catch the bad guys. I would not buy anything again from Lorex as I feel that their 4K statement is a gross misrepresentation. In all fairness, I mentioned this lower than expected resolution to Lorex's tech support and they had nothing to say about this – I even had them check the part numbers to ensure that I got the 4K camera opposed to a 1080p camera. Also, spending 4 hours with Lorex's tech support, they could not get my cameras to work and had no solution to the issue. On my own, I solved the issue which was simple – just visually check the POE switch and ensure that the port had it's lights on! My new switch only had 4 out of 5 ports with lights working and of course my cat 5e was plugged into the one with no lights. I just figured all ports would work. No one suggested this from tech support and I figured it out myself. Lorex is lucky to get two stars. Also, I find that the notifications sometimes show the photo of the action that caused the alert, but many times there is a generic image and I must click on the actual video to see what plays out. The size of the sensor has a lot to do with the ability to catch details to help you catch the bad guys, without that detail the system is just a toy. Check carefully into what size of sensors these cameras contain as 4K isn't always 4K capabilty!Roland H.
We haven’t had it up long, so I haven’t gotten to tweak everything to our needs. The cameras work well and the picture is nice and clear. Even on the lowest sensitivity for motion detection bugs seem to set them off regularly. But I’d rather get an alert about something inconsequential than to not get an alert about something important. One camera did not trigger when my neighbor was going to his car to go to work. I don’t know why it didn’t trigger, but I turned up the sensitivity since he is the reason we got the cameras. He has put rat poison in our yard three times to try to poison our dog and we wanted to catch him on camera doing it. He has done other things as well, so we got the cameras. It’s also convenient to be able to have them so we can watch over the property when we are away.Joseph G.
I purchased product in Sept and hard drive failed a few months in. Lorex sent replacement model and I plug it in and I see "no disk" so they sent me replacement with same issue but some how worse. Works for live viewing but no playback. I performed multiple full system resets and reformatting hard drive per Tech Support recommendations. I am on my second replacement within a year and during that time a rarely had a functioning security system. Going through Lorex to get the replacement takes time and patience. Overall, I did not have good experience and spent more time on phone with Lorex getting replacement NVRs with disk issues than I spent installing the system. Cameras are solid and their app has come a long way over the years. Also, if your NVR/DVR has a disk issue you have to either: 1. Send it back, they receive it and then send you replacement – During which you will have no security system at all (no live view, if issue is only related to hard drive) 2. They put credit card hold on your account for the amount of NVR, send NVR, then hold until they receive defective unit back – Burden/risk is put on costumer, if costumer wants to use their partially working NVR while new replacement comes.Gerard

The system will do remote viewing by cell phone (via Internet, not just via your home/business WiFi) with the RXCamView app, and can send videos (on motion activation) on two cameras, to DropBox (where you can get 2Gb storage for free, just by registering). The system can send images/still shots from as many cameras as you select, but will upload videos from only two cameras. I have not tried to set up email or other alerts, so can't speak to those. One area in the manual was a bit ambiguous–the description of how to select what area of a camera's view, is included/excluded for motion sensing. I did several trials today in a enclosed area, and the AREAS HIGHLIGHTED IN RED, ARE MOTION RECORD ACTIVATION. If you leave "squares" un-highlighted, motion in those areas will not trigger recording. Say you had a porch flag/banner that waves in the breeze–you'd want to leave the squares where it moves, un-highlighted. The system also works with larger HDDs; I swapped in a Western Digital 6Gb drive, and it's been running for four months with no problems. The system has no power on/off switch, and the only time the software power-down option appears (that I've seen) is when you connect a monitor directly to the DVR, and use the mouse on the DVR's USB port. For where my DVR is located, making those connections is a hassle. "So how to power the unit down, without possibly damaging the hard drive?" My solution is to unplug power to all the cameras, and wait for the drive activity LED on DVR, to stop blinking. At that point, the DVR's finished any cached writes it needed to make to disk, and the disk heads should be safely 'parked'. Once you're ready to restore operation, just power up the cameras, and plug the DVR back in. I may be overthinking it, but figure it's better to be easier on the hard drive, when I can.Steve
Overall the system works, however the plastic adapter plate for each camera feels extremely cheap. The cabling for each should be atleast 25 longer. We have a standard size home and the cables aren’t long enough to run up through attic or inside crawlspace to central hub. There’s no extension cabling available at store. The video quality isn’t terrible during daylight for closeups. However, at night or far away the resolution is poor quality. The DVR operations are very easy to navigate. If you need a temporary surveillance system than by all means invest in one. However, I now wish I had invested in higher quality cameras and wireless capability.Davester
I purchased this system about a year and a half ago for my business, it was a spur of the moment purchase since I was originally planning on installing high end 8mp ip cameras with zoom lenses and a ptz camera to give me ultimate control so I bought these as a interim solution and have been using them since. I had no issues installing the system and the quality is surprisingly good for analog hd cameras. My main problem is that I constantly have to reboot the dvr to get remote access working and it works at the most for a day. When the problem happens the only way I can access the cameras is through the lan using my web browser. When that happens none of the apps will work to connect. I suspect it has something to do with the p2p server. With the internet at my business I do not have my own public ip address and no way to forward ports so p2p is my only option for remote viewing.Brandon

I bought this last March and I had to wait until recently to install it. Sadly, the software and access are subpar at best. It is not user-friendly and have had nothing but trouble trying to update the firmware let alone access the device remotely using the Swann security software. I did reach out to support and still have issues with this system. This might just be a thing with this model. Support did say that they have different software for their new Models. Buy beware and just do your diligence. There are so many out-of-the-box solutions that are more intuitive for the same money.Gabicus
I finally replaced my 10 year old system. Had always had issues with connecting to the internet for live streaming etc with the old system. (Old technology). This new unit / system was VERY easy to setup. Video quality is great. Very nice interface as well and mobile app function. The only con, there isn’t much of a Manual in the way of features etc. just some quick info packets to setup. So you will have to explore what’s online. Expect to tweak the cameras at least a couple of times after mounting to get the right location. Haven't completely figured it out yet, but seems pretty easy to configure. I have to find the sweet spot on notifications though.Krasi81
I bought an NVR-8580 and within a couple of hours it clicked and quit working. I exchanged it at Microcenter for another one. After a few months it started having hard-drive errors. When I called tech support I got the usual reboot, plug into another outlet, etc. A total waste of time. A power cycle would usually make the error go away. Then when the error would occur again they would not have the previous ticket and I would have to start over again. They strung me along like this for almost 2 years. When I started getting close to the end of warranty I expressed my concern and tech support kept assuring me that since it was an existing problem that I would be covered under warranty. Now they tell me its out of warranty and I am on my own. They did not stand by their product when it was under warranty. I can get another brand of security system, but I can never get the many hours of my life back that I wasted on hold and rebooting my system to satisfy a flow chart.Judd M

This 8 camera system by Zosi is far better than the 4 camera system I recently purchased. The cameras have a good, crisp image and the useable distance from the receiver is much greater! I am still playing with the software setup, but for the basic setup, it's just plug and go! I ran an AC outlet down to the bottom of my driveway which is about 150 ft. The driveway camera doesn't even need the supplied range extending external antenna! A fantastic deal costing much less but delivering top notch results! The cameras signals are wireless, however, the power is line voltage, with a cable for each camera. It's better than fully wired but it's hardly "wireless". The setup was mostly easy and simple except the manual print is so small that it's ridiculous and not even useful. That may explain why I can't pick up a signal with my phone for more than a few hours after I reset everything. I don't know? I can't read the manual.
I have had this Zosi four camera system for about a month now and it is working great. Installation was relatively simple and customizing the system programming easy. The wireless coverage is adequate and the camera picture quality is excellent. Overall this is a great system. I did have a two camera NVR system from another manufacturer and had nothing but problems. I had three different NVR’s and all three had issues. I finally gave up, and returned the complete system to the home improvement center where it was purchased. I can have up to 8 cameras at once hooked to the hub. I love the home hub where I can see what’s happening on every camera at once. The picture quality on these cameras is exceptional and has a clear image even at night with color. Real time video and sound . I can even access the cameras remotely from my cell phone while not at home. It really gives me the peace of mind for my family and our belongings. If anyone walks near the cameras a very bright floodlight comes on notifying them they are being watched. It deters them. From further coming into my property and I like it! The cameras do have to be hardwired in so I hired my handyman to do it but it’s worth it for the security. The cameras are waterproof so can be used outdoors without any issues. It also offers two way audio so if I’m at work and someone comes to my door o can actually talk to them. The view range of each camera is ideal. These cameras were easy to setup, just plug and play. Once the included app is installed, you are given instant and full control of the cameras. The camera has great quality video and includes face detection, which is neat for a camera at this price. The cameras have an alarm setting in which it rings upon motion detection (which can be toggled in the app), as well as two way talk, where it can act like a smart doorbell. It gets pretty loud, too. I bought it to be able to easily communicate with my elderly grandparents at their distant home and to see if they are ever in a situation where they cannot call for help, and these cameras are suitable for the job. We use this camera system to monitor 8 acres of land and it works perfectly. With the POE technology it was very easy to install. The video quality is good even running through very long Ethernet cables. Having human detection is a big plus for us, as most of the land is wooded. I was very happy to find the system does respond as advertised and saves us a ton of time we used to spend scrolling through unnecessary video. My husband loved that he could record his own intruder message rather than using something pre-recorded.
