This cleaner has muscle, I love the 4×4 design and the directional remote control makes this unit the best. No need for the WiFi. I have a 32k gallon pool and this unit walks the wall with no problem. Love how it cleans the waterline and tiles, fantastic cleaner and fun to watch it handle its duties. Surprised at the filter screen design, it picks up a lot of fine particles and debris. Switching from the suction system, I'm happy to be able to free up my pump motor from cleaning the pool as well. Firstly I would say buying a pool cleaning robot is a nightmare – seems like no matter what model you get, no matter how cheap or expensive someone will say it sucks (no pun intended). However after hearing my wife's input from a Facebook swimming pool owners group she was a member of about the Polaris I decided to go with the 9550. I did't want or need all the fancy WiFi and phone stuff so was able to pick this up for a good discount from a well known pool supply retailer. A benefit of that is the warranty starts from when they hand it over to you, and they have in house servicing under warranty so no sending it away or anything if it goes wrong. And yeah, their nearest outlet is literally walking distance from me.So, on to my review.Initial impressions after assembling the caddy were1. There's a lot of plastic and the tires didn't seem as grippy as I would have expected.2. It's smaller than I thought and quite heavy for the size – so dense3. Otherwise seems simple and well designed.It took about 10 minutes to assemble the caddy and attach the control unit. After that I was able to get it hooked up and in the pool cleaning in minutes – the basic controls are simple. I'm not interested in programmed cleaning which seems pointless unless you're going to leave it in the pool which they don't recommend. You'll need to clean the filter each time anyway.The lift and retrieval system took a bit of getting used to. Counter intuitively the end of the robot with the cable sticking out of is the front. But once you've figured it out it's easy to guide to the edge where it climbs easily even from 8 feet down. Lifting from the pool and cleaning the filter was easy too. I'm guessing that high pressure jets are probably responsible for a lot of the claims about the filter breaking or separating so I recommend a gentle spray from the outside to wash out dirt and then pick out any big bits that stick.In terms of cleaning thoroughness – I have a 36'x16' double-roman rectangular pool with rounded ends and a couple of steps at one end. In six cleanings it has never cleaned the top step and has not well cleaned the second step. It usually misses a spot of two in the middle of the pool. This robot does not have a compass and AFAIK has no pool mapping algorithm, the algorithm is more like a random walk. Even if it has a map It does not have a compass so after hitting walls and falling off at an angle it is probably lost again. I have tried using a bottom only mode and switching the pool type setting to non-rectangular. I'm unsure if that made a difference as I have little dirt any more to really tell.But the pool cleaning is quick – only 90 minutes so running multiple times isn't the end of the world. Or if you are in the hurry pick up the remote and manually guide it to the spots to clean. I actually only just figured out the remote could do that – I thought it was just for guiding the lift out at the end. Obviously I did not read the manual thoroughly the first time!My pool is suffering from some black algae – it obviously doesn't remove those spots, even a stainless wire brush doesn't do that so no way would the rubber scrubber do anything. But it might be softening it up a bit. I suspect with regular algae it is would be more effective – especially at stopping it building up in the first place.I will say that after initial cleanings with my 9550 I was somewhat disappointed by the amount of dirt still on the bottom of my pool quite apart from the missed spots. The day after cleaning it seemed my pool had silt again so whatever the Polaris had sucked up made it through the system again and settled out. However I already knew about the optional ultra-fine filter (part number R0535800 ) and had ordered it the day I got my robot. On the first clean using that filter it picked up an amazing amount of silt that's so fine it looks like sludge (see photo). Even after two more cleans it was still picking it up. This is probably not surprising since my pool used to have a DE (diatomaceous earth) filter that I ditched when the canister split so there was probably a bunch of that ultra-fine junk in the water.Clearly this junk is still passing through the pool system cartridge filter which probably explains why when I swept all the dirt to the main drain it would come right back the next day. So combined with regular cleanings using the Polaris robot with its ultra-fine filter I think I can a) remove the residual DE entirely, and b) keep the ultra-fine particles from the air out in the future. Since one of the reasons for using DE is to get rid of fine particles I'm confident this is combo of cartridge + robotic ultra-fine filtering is a good way to go. Obviously the robot won't filter 30,000 gallons a day but incrementally I think it will let me easily stay on top of ultra fine particulates that a cartridge misses but with all the convenience and low maintenance of the cartridge system.Incidentally several websites selling it claim the uSimon W.
This review is on 9*** series. The model I was using was the "top of the line" version the P965iQ. The 9**** series share the same platform. Differences are controllers and cable detanglers (doesn't always work, that's why if you look carefully at the manual and box they says assists in detangling not prevents detangling).Had the 9650 for two weeks, in the process my pool was wrecked. IT HAS BEEN RETURNED !!!!!!!I bought the 9650 because it was supposed to be intelligent and "the best at cleaning". 0 iQ intelligent, that's it actual intelligence level. It's purely gimmick advertising. Things dumb as a rock just has some timers in it has absolutely no intelligence to it. The 9650 has to have an app to set timers that can be set, so if for some reason, such as the very poor wifi radio it has on you loose some of the limited functionality it does have.The app and controller on the 9650 has very limited functionality. All that it controls is a daily schedule, with in the daily schedule you can select start time and three run times :55 minutes which does water line, 1:50 and 2:50. Unfortunately the cycle timer can not be changed. This was also acknowledged by Polaris tech support. So consequently the 9650 would rarely climb up all the way to the top of the pool walls especially in the deep end of the pool.It did a horrible job climbing the stairs and when it did did extremely poor job of actually cleaning them. If I would have kept the unit I would have had to be out there every other day to sweep. Had I kept the 9560 my sweeping would increase by 1000X. So why would I need a cleaner.It also didn't do corners either so dirt accumulated in all corners.The perfect pool for these units would be a very small shallow pool with no step or obstructions. Not my pool at all !!!In comparison I have a 12 year old AquaJet robotic cleaner that only has two functions on the controller, I can set the cycle timer so it does get up all the way up all the walls and a run timer that runs the unit for over 2 hours. Also because of the design it actually climbs and cleans the stairs and platform and corners extremely well.It never advertised that it had Vortex 4 cleaning what ever that's suppose to be, but the cleaning it does is better than the Polaris 9*** series.Down side the of the AquaJet is it is no longer manufactured.But the Aquabot APRVJR Pool Rover Junior is almost the exact same unit as the AquaJet. Can't see the controller on the unit so not sure if they have the cycle timer setting on it. Cycle time is critical as that will determine whether the unit will go all the way up walls before it gets reversed. Oh yeah I failed to mention that my AquaJet cost $900 up to >$1500.For what you get with Polaris you can get a much better over all cleaner that actually climbs all way up your walls, cleans stairs and corners and can do all the other things claimed by Polaris that their 9*** will do with a "low end" cleaner and save yourself a good amount of money to enjoy on many other things.Also I am in the process of testing the P825 by Polaris. It doesn't offer anything that my 12 year old AquaJet doesn't already do. It looks more impressive but as far as functionality there is no difference between my 12 year old AquaJet and the P825. To be honest, I did buy this for use in my in ground pool which is not the intended use. However, I had a similar vaccine that lasted 3 years for the same use, so I had an idea of how well it may work. Unfortunately, although the vacuum battery lasts a while, the suction is not as effective as expected. It blew the dirt out and around more than it cleaned. The filter needed reinforcement to stay in place after a few uses. Since the other vacuum still works and only the brush portion had deteriorated due to use, I was able to simply use this vacuum’s brush on my other vacuum. It may be better used in a spa or small pool with minimal debris.
First of all the cheaply made very low duty plastic pole is useless as there is no additional support on the vacuum. This makes the vacuum wobble and at one point the plastic pole will break. Even with a metal pole the vacuum wobbles as there is a design error. Secondly, when lifting the vacuum, the water can freely eject and the dirt falls back into the pool. You will need to knee down and lift the vacuum with hand, turning the device upside down, to avoid all the dirt to fall back into the pool. Very poorly designed. Will return mine tomorrow. Update: Got one pf the Intex models for about 60 bucks and tjey are better designed, at least have a non return flap valve so thst the dirt can‘t fall back in the pool and similar suction power.Las V. Opening pool after not really taking care of it over winter — I'm blaming ***.anwho Wife and I have suffered through previous years keeping pool clean with ones that hookup to the pool filters. We have one of those larger Intex steel frame (12000 Gal) style pools so we know with the pump you get what you pay for (to be fair the pump works fine for the pool). It was always a hassle even as I'd upgrade connecters etc. So this year with the pool a mess and we started "cleaning" 1 hour later and wife and I just starting to boil I'm like fudge it, there has to be a better way. Found this bad boy. 100% worth it for us. Is it the best thing ever, no. Is the thing to clean your above ground medium size pool. Yes. Does it have a few "issues" with letting stuff out when you pull out of water. Of course, but you still got a lot more out. I find if I power it off under water and hold the front end up before taking it out (hard to do when on the stick, but once again I digress) there is very minimal spill back. In the end what went from a multi-person marriage destroying activity to a very easy one person (not me) way to clean the pool. Battery is long enough that outside of cleaning up a winter mess should be fine for your average cleaning cycle. The only fault would be for the really stuck on algae we have to go in the brush. If it had a way to have a hard flat brush for algae build up, well I don't know what more I could ask for at this price.JustBill

Bought 2 of these for 2 pools and neither one worked well. They fell apart and did not stay suctioned to bottom of pool very well. They would not reach all areas of pool. Constantly getting stuck at steps. Replaced the one with another manufacturer its doing fine but the kreepy that is in other pool is horrible. Inwould never recommended this. The hayward is working fine at my other pool. When I called about warranty they said if purchased on this platform only 60 day warranty. Buyer Beware!
I bought the Kreepy Krawley to replace my old one that wouldn't hop anymore. This one showed up after 2 weeks and the box was beat to death. I did not want to wait for a replacement so just hooked it up and got going. The first few days it was fine. Then I realized it sets in on the same path over and over, eventually just floating in place. I tried increasing the pump speed and slowing it down re-positioned the weights multiple times, added hose and took some off. Same results. I paid a pool guy to come out and he said something is wrong internally. It is outside my return window so it is in the trash now. Complete waste of money. Purchased May 2021.
I’ve had 2 kreepys over the last 30 years. Originals, both of which lasted about 15 years each. Kreepys have always had their problem, like having to be taken out during leaf fall seasons. But when they work, they’d work well.But this new one is crap. I cannot make it grad the bottom. It wants to scoot along Kanye’s to the side. And when it comes to a certain spot, a curve on my inpool finite lower stairs, it just gets hung there. Both old Kreepys did fine. Never had a problem there. This one isn’t up to the job. No matter what I do.I’m considering a wheeled cleaner.Now it’s 6 months later. This thing continues its above problems. I bought this and loved it so much that I just ordered 2 more. I was afraid they would stop making them. That always seems to happen to me. I find something I like and then it gets discontinued. We have an 18' round above ground pool. I had been using the pool vaccum that came with the pool when we bought it last year. Its a heavy, cumbersome long hose that connects to the filter on one end, and the cleaning pole with head on the other end. Well, never again will I have to endure that prehistoric cleaning tool. This little pool vacuum is AMAZING. I charge it with a USB. It snaps right together in seconds. I have 2 cracked vertebrae and this vac is so lightweight! I turn it on and its very quiet. Sometimes I have to put my ear near it to see if its on. This mighty little vaccum sucks up leaves, sand, dirt, everything in the bottom of the pool, except for huge leaves and twigs. All the gunk goes into its own basket filter. When Im done I empty the basket filter just like you would empty a bagless vaccuum cleaner. So my pool filter lasts longer because all this gunk is not even entering it, like it used to with the old prehistoric vaccum. I can vacuum the entire pool perfectly in 20 minutes flat. Its so easy. Its cordless too. I usually dont write reviews but I had to express my satisfaction with this item. If you have a bad back, trouble lifting heavy items, etc then this is the product for you. This little vacuum works great. It gets all that little stuff around the edges and behind the ladder from the bottom of your pool. I was spectacle to buy at first, due to the price, didn't think it would work that great. I'm glad I was wrong. Our pool isn't able to connect a vacuum to the filter so this is perfect for it. Hayward 4 wheel "Suction-Side" Pool Cleaner, advertised for a 40' pool. Assembly was easy. We used it ONE time and are returning it. The tubes all put together reached less than 30 feet so it does not cover a 40' pool. Manual says it will not get stuck on the main drain at the bottom of the pool – but it did. DH double checked to make sure the drain was turned off. Drain was off but the cleaner was stuck. The wheels kept turning though… could that damage the liner? Advertisement says it climbs the walls – it would not. Manual says if it doesn't climb the walls it could be due to low suction. However, on the unit we got – the suction was not low because the tube (that was too short) collapsed. It wasn't able to handle the suction. Maybe we got a bad unit? I like the silent and smooth operation. This replaces a chuck-a-chuck pool cleaner and a net-bag type wheeled collector prior to that (over 20 years). This cleaner was recommended to my by a friend, he having the two wheel version. I have a 16 x 32 pool 3-6 feet deep. This 4 wheel cleaner makes it around my pool and keeps it clean using 2 hours per day of operation—-yes two hours. I have a multi speed pump controlled automatically for speed and valve actuators to turn on and off one of the two pool skimmers. The additional suction for the remaining open skimmer is sufficient to run the cleaner at its optimum 14 wheel revolutions per minute. Outstanding and easy to set up. NOTE in revision: had a problem with the pool filter climbing out of the pool. The wheel rotation number was set right, and it was doing a good job. But the climbing out created a terrible growling sound like a wild animal and the air cavitation will eventually kill the pool pump. looked up service for the cleaner and found that there is a small plastic piece under the cleaner that comes with three restriction sizes, small, medium,and large. Medium was installed at purchase. Changed it to the small oriface and that solved th problem. Wont climb all the way to the top of my concrete pool but cleans well and no longer cavitation. This is the second Hayward pool cleaner I have purchased. The first one worked for 12 years and would still work had it not been for my own operator error. This cleaner is light and easy to use. When I first put it in the pool, the cleaner did not crawl the side walls; but after adjusting the flow it works great. You would assume that an "Intex branded" pool vacuum would fit an Intex above ground pool, but somewhere along the line Intex changed the fitting threads on the pool return fitting and they are NOT compatible. I had to return it as it was useless. Intex should have kept everything the same instead of changing only one side's threading without changing the fitting on the pool. Terrible business decision on Intex's part. If you bought an Intex pool after Jan 2021, this vacuum will NOT fit guaranteed. If the pool was purchased pre '21 you are just rolling the dice. INTEX should either sell the appropriate fitting for the pool individually, change the fitting back to the original on the vacuum, or recall all of these vacuums. This thing will zip across your pool for about ten minutes but never once did it pick up even the slightest bit of dibris from the pool. Not a leaf, not a bug, not a bit of anything. It needs more protection on the ends where it hits the side of the pool. I had a tear in my liner where the brace is and exactly where the cleaner bumps it. I do love how well it cleans the bottom of the pool and saves me tons of work. It needs a rubber bumper to reduce the impact on the liner. Still and excellent product. Ive been using these for a while, they last a few seasons. This model is improved with the screen on the input hose and better casters. My only complaint is with the hose, I had to buy a nipple to connect the 2 sections together so it would reach across the pool. Other than that it does a great job.timid8er

There is not much that these things do. It’s basically a vacuum machine running around. How do you know if they are good or bad ? The corners. This one makes is the first one I have owned that cleans the corners or the pool with every single run.There are fanciers versions of this device, I have the 502, the cheapest one. Other versions have two scrubbers and additional functionality. Are they needed or worthy ? I think they are not. This is my first purchase of a Pool vac. Ive had it for a few months. So far so good. Cord length I use this on a 30' above ground pool, power supply is about 5 ft away. The cords reach, just barely. Cleaning effectiveness: It vacumes the pool floor pretty well, sometimes it takes a second run to get everything. It floats on purpose: I was a little concerned when I saw it "float" repeatedly when I first ran it, but I came to realize it is popping up its front intentionally inorder to turn. I think this is what others have mentioned when they talk about it floating. You have to ignore it and let it do its thing. Filter: The filter that comes with it is good for small leaves, grass and bugs, but I'm glad I ordered the microfilter. It gets all the algae and sand sized dirt. Wishy Washy Warranty: The warranty is unclear. They want you to purchase it at a local pool supply authorizedvendor for full coverage, but I called around and the local version is about $150 more. I purchased the Walmart extended warranty for $50 to insure that all was covered. Hopefully I never have to test out the warranty. 4 Stars it does a good job of cleaning, but because it takes two runs to clean completley, there is a local supplier clause in the warranty, and I had to purchase the second filter, I dont feel that it warrants 5 stars. Overall I'm happy with the purchase. I can spend time swimming instead of vacuuming. I sometimes wish I would have gotten the model with remote control and auto timer, but that's a few hundred dollars more. Hopefully it lasts for many seasons.ME
I purchased this item last year on sale from Walmart.com at the end of the swim season. I began using it this spring. The cleaner does not climb walls , and that is fine, but instead of going at 90 degree angle and then backing off, it continues to move in the same direction. same spot , causing major tears in my vinyl liner in-ground pool. Have attempted to contact walmart vendor as well as the manufacturer(Maytronics) with no response. All I want is pool cleaner that won't damage my pool. I charged this pool vacuum yesterday and came home the today and hopped in the pool to use it. It did wonders in my pool, picked up all the sand and dirt on the bottom. I cleaned the filter out ever 15 minutes or so, I worked this vacuum for almost 1 hour on and off and Im impressed! It still had plenty of life left one only one charge. This vacuum has a small opening for debris to be collected through. You have to get right on the debris and move the vacuum back and forth. I expected more for the price. My pool is rectangle and I needed something just for the corners that my automatic vacuum pushes debris into. We built a new pool in 2019 and the pool builder installed the Prowler 920. It worked great when we opened the pool for the first time in April 2020 but quit in September 2020. I contacted Pentair for warranty assistance one year ago today. Several of the service providers I was given didn't know they were Pentair warranty centers. I've shipped the unit to two different service providers (actually had to drive three hours round trip to pick it up this last time because no one would answer the phone). It is sitting in my garage still broken one year later. I bought another pool cleaner to use in the meantime. I do not recommend this unit and definitely do not recommend an extended service policy as there is no infrastructure to support it.Brian
We love this! Our pool place recommended it and also said we could get it for less on DiscoverMyStore than from them. It saves my husband from having to spend 2 hours cleaning the pool. The pool was about 20 years old when we bought the house and had the main drain covered. That can make getting enough suction to clean the pool VERY difficult. We also believe we may have a leak in our line between our skimmer basket and the pump/filter because we get bubbles. This also makes suction to clean difficult! This product has made my husband fall in love with our pool again! We plug it in and let it go, it runs a few hours very similar to a roomba but for your pool! Once done we open the basket that collects the debris and wash it with the garden hose and then thoroughly rinse the unit the same way, allow to dry and then place in our storage shed! We run it 3 times a week as we usually only swim on the weekends, so Friday, Saturday and Sunday!cbadmanp
