This is my first foray into pomades, and I was braced for something between a hair oil and the crunchy gels of the 80s. I was pleasantly surprised to find Cremo delivered something far better. This pomade is a solid hold, especially when worked through do hair, and it holds for 24 hours, if not longer. I've been able to mist water on my hair and comb it back into place after sleeping for a second day's hold. It doesn't have a strong smell, which is great — nothing to compete with my aftershave and cologne. I have 3a/b curly hair, ringlets with big volume and I thought I'd never be able to wear my hair straight without using a straightener religiously. And with this product alone, I can wear my hair slicked back and mostly straight in a Peaky Blinders cut. That's the kind of hold Cremo delivers, and I'm a convert for life. I recently received this Cremo Thickening Styling Paste #freeproduct from #trywithtopbox to try in exchange for an honest review. This is the first time my fiancé is trying a styling paste, he usually uses hair glue for his hair. He found that the product was easy to use and work into his hair. The texture of the paste is really soft and not at all sticky or tacky. It however does not have as much hold as his usual hair glue. He actually has pretty thick hair to begin with so he couldn't tell if there was a thickening effect. However, he said he really loved the scent of product. Most hair styling products he has tried usually smells waxy or has a overwhelming perfumy scent. This one smells like an old fashioned barber shop. I have used this product for years. However, this particular pot has a different consistency from previous ones I've purchased. Not as creamy, so not as easy to rub between your fingers, and apply to hair. I am a little disappointed, as not a cheap product. It is usually good value for money, as only need a small amount. This is definitely one of the better hair products available. The texture of the product means it's easy enough to apply without that awful feeling of never being able to wash it off your fingers afterwards. Smells absolutely lovely as well which is always a bonus. I use a decent enough application so I can keep my hair styled without it falling out of place within 20minutes. The hold on this is pretty average but it does work very well in that it doesn't make your hair look or feel greasy. Teamed with hairspray it holds a style surprisingly well. Given the amount you get in a tin and how long it lasts I would say this represents pretty good value for money. It's one of those products that you don't regret having. I've been using Matt Mud for 4 weeks now and have been extremely impressed with the results. Firstly it's worth noting that you will only get good results from this product if used correctly, meaning applying the right quantity on the right length hair. When used on short hair (as per the instructions), it gives a fantastic hold that lasts throughout the day. It also adds a lot of texture and weight, which is great as someone who has naturally thin hair. It should be said that the longer your hair grows throughout the month, the less effective this product becomes, so going forward I will most likely use this for a couple of weeks before switching to an alternative product when the hair gets longer. I've tried brands great and small, from clays to gums to gels and none have been quite right. Matt Mud firstly looks the part, in a satisfying metal pot that doesn't dent the second you chuck it in a sports bag. It also smells great- not the rich cloying coconut of it's near rivals but the refined and masculine smell of a quality product. You need a little more of the Mud than of its major rivals but on no occasion have I found it makes my hair heavy or greasy or clumpy. I'd recommend applying a small amount to the palm of your hair and spread this out, it'll be dry, so avoid ripping out your hair on application, add a few drops of water. I have always liked RedKen for Men products, they are a good brand. This paste comes in a pump action bottle and usually 1 pump is enough. You can obviously use a bit more to get your desired style. The texture is really good and the hold I get from this is pretty strong. It won't leave your hair really hard to touch but it still gives it a strong hold. It is mostly a matte effect but could give you a small amount of shine depending on the amount you use. Even though this is my first bottle of this I will continue to buy. I'm so pleasantly surprised by this paste! I've been using Paul Mitchell's Wax Works for many years but Ulta was out so I opted to try something new. I've tried many styling products over the years and it's hard to find a texture product that doesn't weigh down my fine hair or leave me with a sticky product feel in my hair. This paste hold my style all day, better than anything I've used. I wore a beanie outside in the cold and when I removed the hat, my hair popped right back up! The best part is that I have this great hold in my pixie cut yet it doesn't even look like anything is in my hair at all. It looks and feels like my hair has natural texture and volume!! Another great product from sunbum. This stuff smells lovely ( like summer to me) and is great for taming fly away hairs. I have a friend who works at a beauty supply store over and she saw I had this she said they fly off the shelves at her store. I have thick shorter asian hair. I've tried the expensive brands, the cheap brands, and everything in between. Sun bum checks all the boxes. It smells great, holds well, and is priced right. There is no other product out there that can claim they do all 3. I am very conscious about not putting weird chemicals in my hair or using products that harm our environment. The product is great. Not only does it have great hold but it washes out easily and when paired with other Forte Series products such as the Argan oil and Sea Salt Spray I can style my hair with ease. I only need to use a small amount so I’m sure it will last for awhile. Not to mention the sleek packaging and inviting scent. Alex and the team have done a great job in delivering a high quality product. The only reason I haven’t given it five stars is the price. Due to international shipping to the UK, the cost was pretty expensive and surmounted to roughly a 1/3 of the entire order. That's pricier than any other product I have bought from the US. Much like American Crew's Fiber, this product is high hold and made for short hair (about 1-3 inches in length). It's one of my favorite products to use after haircuts when my hair is short. Molding Clay differs from the Fiber because it has a shine. It will give something closer to a "gel/wet" look, but without hardening and the product remains malleable so you can restyle throughout the day (hence a "greasy" feel as opposed to the "sticky" feel of the Fiber). If you have hair that's longer than about 3 inches, the product will likely feel too greasy (just as Fiber feels too sticky in longer hair). You gotta know your styling products – they're not made for a one-fits-all length/style. I've never had an issue washing it out. All American Crew products I've tried are water-based and wash out easily.
I've tried a number of American Crew products and this one just doesn't work for me. It has less hold than the pomade, in my opinion, and leaves my hair looking greasy to the point that it looks like I've worked out and didn't shower afterwards. Honestly, it works so poorly that I wonder if I somehow got a fake product instead of the real thing… The smell is nice though! It's got a pleasant minty scent that I find enjoyable.A

I like this product and it does exactly what I need it to do. This was my first time to use this brand. My hair is complicated and can be an adversary at times. My hair used to be blonde, longer and soft when I was young and then it became coarser and my part moved from where I wanted it to be. I still never needed to use hair products regularly – other than good shampoo. Now my hair is thinner and white and I like to keep it shorter (but not "short"). The top can have a tendency to be too flat and the sides (especially the rebel side) can spike out – both are problem areas that I need this hair product to "fix". It actually takes care of everything I want, has a dry look (without any change to color) and I like the scent (not medicinal and not feminine and more pleasant than overtly masculine – which I can live with). Don't need to use much and I wash my hair every day so I don't have to deal with the fixing of my hair with the same product for a second day or after sleeping with it in. The scent is fine and I don't notice it at all after I finish with creation and if I were to suggest changing it, I believe there are MANY more ways it could get worse instead of better. I normally use Baxter of California. Wanted to give Firsthand Clay a go after watching some cool review videos on youtube. This Clay Pomade holds great than Baxter and just work really well for my hair. I loved the earthy scent, the breakdown, and the application. I have used it for 3-4 days and it has outperformed any pomades I have used previously. This Pomade has no trouble holding down my sides or getting out my waves making my hair look nice and neat. This Firsthand pomade is pretty good. The odor is really pleasant, which is the best thing going for it, IMO. The pomade is pretty dry and you'll need to apply it wet to get it to the roots, if that's your style. Also, it drys pretty quickly, so be sure to work quick on your style before having to re-wet any unfinished areas. The best way to use it that I have found is to apply it directly to your semi wet hair, straight out of the shower, and work quickly with your brush/comb. If you want to sculpt more aggressively, blow dryer and hairspray are your friends. I use this pomade over my other brands mainly because of the pleasant light odor. The other pomades leave stronger, not so pleasant smells that bother me throughout the day.

I absolutely love this product. I have fine and frizzy 3B curls that are easily weighed down by products. I've been using this for three weeks in a variety of ways to give a fair review. With/without blow drying, leave-in conditioner, comb vs. round brush etc. I have very thick, wavy hair and these are my impressions.Pros:- Scent is incredible, if they had a line of products with just this scent they would probably be my go-to for all grooming products- The finished product looks great in your hair no matter how you style, experiment with wet vs. damp hair for your desired shine- A little product goes a long way, a dime size amount is MORE than enough unless you have very long hair- Did I mention the scent?Cons:- Not a great value at this price point compared to the competition, think American Crew, Paul Mitchell, etc. These brands are very similar in price and compare favorably against this product.- Very difficult to wash out, if co-wash or don't shampoo everyday then this product isn't for you. You need to use a harsh sulfate shampoo to rinse it all out on the first try in my experience.This product will be a fine addition to my rotation but likely won't become my go-to due to my normal hair routine. I always hesitate to give something a 5 star rating. But I have had this for a month and I feel like I have used it in combination with all my fave shampoos and conditioners as well as other styling products I use regularly and it performs consistently for my hair type. I have light blond highlights to enhance naturally graying hair that's cut in a short multi layered asymmetrical bob, it's also naturally wavy and fine with NO natural body or texture. I mostly use Aveda products to wash and condition. After applying a curl creme and diffusing my hair, I apply this to my palms and rub to liquidate and turn my head upside down, rubbing my palms through my scalp. This fills in all flat spots like magic. Then I finish with Aveda Air Control hairspray. I used to use Ouai wave spray and it was amazing, but it’s also $26 for 4.9 ounces. I decided to try this on a whim because the travel size is only $6 and it totally exceeded my expectations. The waves it created were fuller and more textured than they were with Ouai and the hold was better as well. And we mustn’t forget the smell. I loooove it. It’s woodsy and rich and lasts for the whole day. I get so many compliments on it. And did I mention the full size is half the price of my prior product? Gotta love that! This has been a repeat purchase for me and will continue to be as long as they make it.S
This product is just amazing. I was looking for a hair texturizer that would help my curls stay in place. I spray this in my hair as well as my heat protectant I then blow dry my hair then curl it. Usually my curls unravel during the night , but when I use this stuff my curls stay easily three days which helps cut down on styling time. my hair is still so soft and healthy. I absolutely love this spray! It smells great and gives my normally limp and flat hair great texture and body. I find I don't need much spray to achieve the texture I want and used too much the first few times and ended up with crunchy waves so you have to find the balance. As a long time user of the Clay, I bought the Paste some time ago while looking for a lighter alternative to the Clay. I wasn't happy with the Paste at the time, it was very hard, so I kept with the Clay. Since, JH has sent me a replacement of the Clay, one of the new formula batches and it's a major improvement. It's pliable and easy to work into your hair. It's certainly a good alternative to consider if you're looking for a lighter option than the Clay.Brett
I received this product for free. The paste certainly provides a reshapable hold that makes your hair feel healthy and hydrated. It gives a soft yet moderate hold and has a good amount of shine. That being said, I would not say it provides a lot of volume and texture, as the name "paste" usually implies. To me, this is a lot more like a pomade than a paste. I love the smell of the Paste, especially compared to the Pomade, and the feel and texture in your hair allows for a flexible hold for anyone who wants movement in their hair styling. If you want a nice firm hold, I recommend the Pomade. The only downside, however, is that when you open the container for the first time and try to scoop some of the Paste out, it feels almost as if there is an outer protective shell. It is nearly impossible to make a dent with your finger unless you use your finger nails. Eventually, I took a metal stick and mashed the product and mixed it up to break through that layer.Justin J.
