20 Best Products For Coily Hair (Feb 2023 Update)

I heard other reviews and videos rave about this mousse and had to try it. I have to say, they are right. I have fine texture, low porosity natural hair. My hair is short, but when stretched the back comes to my collar bone and the front comes to the end of my nose (to give you a reference). I get good definition using a gel, but this product really defined my hair, and I had more body. Body is a problem for those of us with fine hair. My curls lasted 4 days, especially in the top which is longer. My hair is shorter on the sides and since I sleep on my side the definition fades sooner. I still had a little definition on my sides day 4, but the top still had curls. The first time I used it I only used a moisturizing deep conditioner and the mousse. It did great defining my curls, but left my hair very dry. The next time I used a moisturizing deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, a moisturizing gel, and a sealing oil with the mousse. Sounds like a lot, but this is the process I have to use every wash day to keep my hair moisturized for 3 days. I did not have any problems with dry hair at all this time. This mousse has become part of my weekly regimen.Breezinby

I have thick heavy waves/curls. The product worked well when I used it with a leave in conditioner. The day I was in a rush and didn't put a leave in my hair was course and felt dehydrated. It doesn't help to clump your curls on it's own, but was easy to style and mold my curls with my brush. Dried quickly and smelled good. I didn't get a chance to use it for a long period of time to see the overall quality. The bottle untwisted just enough while under my sink and spilled. Luckily I had it in a container. The bottle easily untwist. You should keep the product right side up and make sure it doesn't knock over. Unfortunately it's the bottle quality that keeps me from buying this again. I would suggest checking The Doux’s channel on YouTube to see how she uses the styler depending on the length of the hair. I have a short natural tapered cut and the mousse works best went I finger twirl the top and front. I love the slip and the shine. Even though the hold is soft – it survives my sweaty workouts. I have natural/4a hair. I used this product after taking down a 6 week protective. I started off by shampooing with the TGIN Rosewater hydrating shampoo ( Which I LOVE). After that, I applied this protein treatment for about 10-15 mins. I immediately followed up with the TGIN Moisture Deep Conditioning Mask.. it left my hair feeling amazingly healthy.My hair went from feeling limp and brown to shedding and breakage, to strong and resilient to shedding & breakage. For anyone who doesn't know- protein treatments HAVE TO BE USED WITH A HYDRATING/ MOISTURIZING conditioner as the second step. I am wearing my hair curly and it's hard to tell if my hair is stronger. It did leave my hair feeling dry and I left it in without heat for thirty minutes under a shower cap wrapped in a bath towel. I have been experiencing a lot of split ends, breakage along the shaft and just overall not happy with my hair journey so I am praying for good results. Use this in my 1 yr old’s fine, curly hair as a daily moisturizer along with aloe vera juice and essential oils. I also use it to style her hair, either method keeps her curls soft, moisturized and detangled, while helping to hold her style in place. My texture is thick and curly and my hair has the same results. I do not use it to hold my styles as my texture is too thick and requires more hold. I absolutely love this leave in treatment!! My hair is really thin and I would love to grow my hair long but due to how thin it is,I tend to cut it so not to be as obvious. The great thing about this treatment is that I feel like it thickens the ends of my hair so doesn’t make it as obvious that I have 2 hairs to my name. I'm 25, caucasian, with naturally wavy hair and I really like the Redken Extreme Length system. I love the scent- it's not overbearing at all. The shampoo lathers well, I just feel like it's more watery/not thick- but maybe that extends the use since the bottles are only 10oz and 8oz. The conditioner may not feel like you're using enough, but I can tell that I'm using the right amount for me when I can easily comb through after applying. I love rinsing the conditioner out because my hair feels so smooth. The leave-in treatment makes my hair smooth and doesn't leave a residue. I bought the sealer originally thinking it was a conditioner, not a leave in conditioner. Despite my mess up though I found it worked perfectly as a wash out and a leave in conditioner. It doesn't sit heavy or leave my hair feeling coated if I wash it out. My recent hair really proved how well it works on my hair as I had very minimal split ends to trim which is perfect as I am trying to grow my hair out and keep my length as much as possible for my wedding later this year. Best used if you have ringlets as opposed to “kinky” or “wavy” hair (in which case maybe look at “Killer Waves” by KevinMurphy) I have very curly but normal thickness hair and I prefer to water it down a little. I bought Kevin Murphy products by suggestion of my stylist. I got the Smooth shampoo and conditioner. This is some of the worst shampoo and conditioner I've ever used. Herbal Essence smooths my hair more than these products! The shampoo and conditioner are so harsh are my curly hair, it is left dry and brittle after each time I've used it. My scalp is always itchy also. I use a wet brush in the shower to comb through the conditioner and detangle my hair, but it is a work out with this conditioner. There is no slip. After my hair dries it ends up severely tangled, knotted, and deprived of moisture. Not only are the products poor quality but the packaging is terrible. It's really hard to pop open the caps. I have had to unscrew the lids off every time to get product out. You also can't squeeze them much so that makes it difficult to use all of the product in the bottle as well. Lastly, the smell isn't very nice either. It's tolerable, but not preferable. I wish I could say there was anything redeeming about these products, especially since they were so expensive, but unfortunately these are a huge miss and I can't imagine why any salon is carrying them.Shannon

I have type 4A/4B natural hair and I've been natural for almost 5 years now, so you can trust me when I say that I've tried just about every gel there is for African American hair!! 'Eco Styler' and 'La Belle Lots of Curls' gels usually give me nice TIGHT curls, but nothing like this gel. Aunt Jackie's Flaxseed gel gives me nice LOOSE curls. I've included some pictures, even though my camera does NOT do it justice. I've found that this gel does not work so great on wet hair for a wash 'n go style, but it does work good on wet hair for twist outs. This gives me some of the best curl definition ever! It works best for me on dry hair after a twist out or braid out. I add a little oil moisturizer first, then I apply the gel. You don't need much at all, which is a good thing. I scrunch it in my hair and I get luxurious loose, bouncy spiral curls! They're really gorgeous in person. Please don't expect for your hair NOT to shrink at all with this. My hair does still shrink a little, but nothing like before (without this product). So, it doesn't totally stop it, but it prevents it by up to maybe 85 – 90% on MY hair. I've only been using this for about a week and have already received compliments on my hair. My husband says it makes my hair look fuller. It definitely does "it" for me and gets the job done. Don’t Shrink is a CGM approved protein gel with olive oil, shea butters, and glycerin. Flax seed really helps my hair retain its curl shape, the large jar helped me explore different styling techniques to see what works best with my hair and the price helped me feel better about re-styling failed experiment days vs conserving pricy product; which let’s face it, there’s a lot of fails in the beginning for curlies lol. I tried it out with super long hair and also with a long bob reset chop and both had consistent results. I achieved really great definition with a hard hold, I still had frizz but I also know this is most likely user error since I’m always improving my routines. I clarify every wash so I’m not one to comment on build up. I really wanted to love it, but I found out mid tub that I prefer shrinkage while I train my curl type. Y’all this product is amazing for those nice tight curls or coils. My daughter and I both have curly ethnic hair but she has tight curls. When I tell you her curls are bangin it is no joke! This makes your curls not shrink, exactly what it states. Our curls stay flawless all day with bounce and all. It doesn’t leave a film on your hands, it doesn’t make your hair greasy or oily either. This is my favorite hair product for my hair! I have curls that are fine so I can’t use any product that is super heavy, but I need something that will prevent me from getting frizz. I think this is a really good light weight multi-use product. I use this leave-in conditioner with different styling gels that leave my hair dry with it. To avoid flaking, be sure to test them together on the back of your hand before applying them to your hair. Also READ THE INGREDIENT LABEL CAREFULLY. The ingredient list on SallyBeauty.com lists mineral oil as an ingredient, but the list on the product’s website doesn’t show it and neither does my bottle. Perhaps it was reformulated and Sally Beauty hasn’t updated their website, but I would double check the label before using.sheila.k

I am a fair-skinned redhead with fine, very curly hair (corkscrew curls, pencil to Sharpie diameter). I bought the Pattern 3-conditioner sampler, so I could see what works best for me. My hair has been dry lately, due to hypothyroidism, and I wash it more in the summer. So I need good hydration! Anyway… If you have fine hair, do not be afraid to try the "Intensive" conditioner!! Even though this is an intensive conditioner — kind of like a "hair mask" — it is not too heavy for my fine hair. I find that it hydrates beautifully, and after being rinsed out and then paired with a curl-defining leave-in cream, my curls are very defined, shiny, bouncy (not at all weighed-down), and frizz-resistant… even in hot, humid, rainy Maryland summer weather. I'm very happy with this, and can't wait to try the Heavy and Medium conditioners. My hair has different needs depending on the time of year, weather, and my activities. So it will be interesting to experiment with all three. I also look forward to trying the leave-in curl cream. Another important note: I am very sensitive to perfumey, over-fragranced products. That's not a problem with this conditioner. It smells nice (NOT overpowering) when using it, and then the fragrance fades. So it won't clash with your cologne or make you sneeze! Call me pleasantly surprised because what started as an "error" turned out to be the favorite! I had purchased the Intensive Conditioner in the past and thought it was the one I selected. After purchasing it however I realized I had selected the Heavy Conditioner but I figured I'd try it. WOW! It was actually BETTER than I expected! I mean peep the before and after photos! The cream left my hair feeling exactly how it's advertised, lucious, juicy and smooth! The best part? It doesn't leave my hair feeling heavy and sticky. As for the quality? Well the Conditioner itself is PERFECT so that is why I give this 5 stars. I don't often make a big deal about packaging but this container and pump just didn't work. Ok, let's get some things straight about this product. It says Heavy Conditioner for Coily hair. I read several comments of dissatisfaction of this product. My daughter has Coily/curly hair. I have tried Several.. Products which would nourish/hydrate and detangle her hair altogether. Nothing worked, until I tried Pattern Heavy conditioner for Coily hair. Yes, it is a thick conditioner, that's why it's labeled Heavy. After applying this conditioner to my daughters hair as instructed, my daughters hair is so much easier to manage, comb and detangle. I do not have to struggle to comb out her tangles like before using Pattern. If you do not have Coily/Curly hair, this product is not for you. I am using several of the Pattern products for my self and my daughter and they all work perfectly. My hair is curly and my daughter has Coily/Curly, there is a difference in our hair pattern, so therefore we use different kind of Pattern products. I have been and still a satisfied customer of Pattern Products. Lastly, make sure you know your hair type before buying products.Life Pattern

Today, I used Posh for the 1st time. I didn't use it with damp hair in my prepping before using the Le Volume. I used this product afterwards, to cut down on my frizz and fly-aways especially around my ends. I was nervous about this because when I typically do a "blow-out" using the Le Volume my ends looks a little ratty bc I have thin hair. Using the POSH helped give it a more cohesive look at the ends. Didn't weigh it down either since when I put product in my hand it's like an oily consistency after rubbing it together. I then ran it along my ends and along mid-shaft. I have thick curly hair that is prone to frizz; especially on humid days. A friend recommended I try l'ange products, specifically POSH. I was reluctant to buy something online as I've "fallen" for too many online products that don't deliver their promises. My friend knows this and gave me a few dollops of her posh to try while we were at the beach for a few days. WOW! I have very fine stick straight hair and I always get a little frizziness after styling my hair. I’ve tried every product out there so I was shocked when I tried Posh. Because my hair is fine, thin and straight it takes a VERY SMALL amount – just a small dot on my finger rubbed through my fingers and then through my hair – to tame any frizzies that result from heat styling. Olaplex hair care is turning my hair goals into success. I struggled with my hair care up until now. I saw my friend using it and I immediately wanted to try it because it made her hair look so nice and healthy. I use their shampoos and conditioners, their bonding oil, and their hair mask. They have numbers for certain hair goals and it didn't take me long to find the right one for me. On the website they have description on their products and what numbers do the best for you. This can lead you do find the type of hair care your hair needs. I'm a bright blonde so it is tricky to find the right products to keep that color. Olaplex doesn't make my color last any less. So for people who have colored hair and worry about it this is for you. Before the using this line my hair color only lasted about 3 weeks. This is such a fast fade. After using the products my hair has kept up with the color and had lasted longer than 3 weeks. I consistently use their purple shampoo once a week.Other shampoos and conditioners fade my bright blonde hair. This was so frustrating because then I would have to go back for so many more appointments then I needed. Olaplex keeps my hair bright blonde and maintains it. Although they are expensive and come in medium sized bottles I think they are still worth it. The shampoo and conditioner are 30 dollars each. This isn't so bad because you get away with using just little blobs that goes a long way. The shampoo is number 4 and the conditioner is number 5. The next product I use is the number 8 bond intense moisture mask. This mask sits in my damp hair for 10 mins. After that I go back in with my shampoo and conditioner. This makes my hair styleable and has more body. This keeps my hair shiny, smooth, and healthy. This product is also 30 dollars. I think this price might be a little much because it comes in a smaller bottle. But in the end process it is giving you what you are looking for. I usually use this hair mask once a week. I try to use it at the beginning of the week to get it prepped for the week full of styling. The next product I use is the bonding oil. This product is made for dry or wet hair. It is a heat protectant, detangler, enhances shine, and reduces frizz. For me this product met all the criteria. The bonding oil number is 7. The smell of this product is great. I mainly use this product when I get out of the shower to help detangle my hair and keep the frizz away for the morning. This keeps me waking up with my hair staying shiny. I also use it when I'm about to style my hair when it is dry. I only put it on my ends and then I continue to style my hair and apply heat. Now this product is also 30 dollars. I think this one is way overpriced because it is a super tiny container. Especially if you use it every single night. My hair before has been rough. Split ends after split ends, dry hair, and washing it constantly. My hair has always had terrible split ends and it was so hard for me to figure out why. After trying so many different products I finally feel like I found what helps me the most. Since I get my hair dyed and style it so often it does go through a lot of damage. Continuing sports as well makes it hard for me to not wash it as much so it doesn't get as dry. Bur after finding what I needed this is perfect. But overall I think the brand is perfect for people who need this type of hair care. It is also great because their line is made for every hair type, it just depends on the condition of your hair.madison

I bought this for my wife and she use this with the No.0, No.3 and the No.4 I must say the combo of these products together is amazing. Her hair was pretty much destroyed frome excessive styling, blow drying and box dyes. We could totally tell a difference after just one use of these products. Her hair looks healthier, has more shine and manageability, doesn't look as damaged, she isn't yanking out knots when she wakes up and brushes her hair plus it has so much softness and looks smooth not frizzy. It seems like the texture, strength, and even the way her hair is laying is totally changing. I’ve been having issues with thinning and breakage for a couple of years now and it really does seem like I’ve tried almost everything. I kept my expectations low but since a lot of friends have used and liked Olaplex I decided that it would be worth it to try and so far it has been. Obviously it can’t cure thinning due to stress/genetics but the texture of my hair has approved tenfold since I started using the No 0, 3,4,and5. Since my hair is quite fine and thin I use the bond building treatment and hair perfecter 1-2 times a week for the past month. Honestly I am stunned at the results. Since it’s not a permanent fix but a treatment, you do have to continue using it. I did read somewhere that there’s no way for it to permanently fix your already damaged hair but it can definitely treat it while the damage grows out. It doesn’t weigh my hair down, there’s no apparent residue, and it felt healthier and looked healthier after only the first try and has consistently improved since. I’ve tried so many products that just seem to sit on top of my hair and reflect light instead of actually improving anything texturally. I was also stunned at the quality of the product, not just in effect but a little really does go a long way in each one of my products. It smells and feels amazing. I could clearly go on. I’m just so pleasantly stunned! I had read some very negative reviews and was prepared to just take a chance and I’m thrilled and impressed with the results. I really like using these products and how my hair feels after using them. I ordered the whole set during the flash sale and when I received the products the shampoo, conditioning spray, and the conditioner weren't closed properly so most of the product was in the bottom of the box. I sent an email about the issue but I received another email for a link that doesn't work to open a ticket. No one has reached out to me and I have been sent the same link twice. This is one of my top five shampoos for people who have a four c hair texture! The smell is amazing. It definitely gives off hints of pomegranate and honey which is the perfect snow combination. It provides a thick rich and full leather without having to use 17 pumps of shampoo. I Projects like that mielle products are parabens and sulfates paraffins and mineral oil all free. I was a little disappointed when I received my black Friday package from Mielle. I have ordered before and have been pleased but this time it was like everything was thrown in a box and shipped. The box was so beat up its like the products could have came out and almost would have im certain had it been tossed around any more and I know that part wasn't so much their fault but I figured it would have been put into another box to ship to prevent that problem. The products had no confetti at least to soften how its thrown around everything was so greasy i thought for sure a product or 3 were leaking and also nothing was wrapped at least in bubble wrap considering how it was boxed up. I am very pleased with the results of this hair texturizer. I wear my natural curls 365 a year, STRICTLY. I wanted to show off my length of hair. Throughout the corona virus, I have kept my hair strands healthy and mostly wear a bun, on the top of my head. One of my favorite products from this line. Very hydrating and smells good – but all these products smell good. My son doesn’t even complain that it says Baby Girl he likes the way it makes his hair look and not dry out. He’s a professional dancer so he sweats ALOT and mid way through rehearsals his hair is a curly mop that lost all shape and style. After shampooing my hair I towel dry my long color treated hair very gently with a water absorbing towel and put a few pumps of the 14 in 1 Miracle Worker into my hands, rub them together and apply to my hair from midway down to the ends. I can then let it air dry while I sleep and wake up to a gentle wave in my hair. If my hair looks slightly frizzy during the week, i will pull into a ponytail, wet my hands with water and slightly dampen my hanging ponytail hair before putting a few pumps of 14 in 1 Miracle Worker into my hands, rubbing together and disperse onto my long haired ponytail. It makes my hair look soft with a light wavy bend and never feels sticky when dry. It works even better than higher priced conditioning products that I have purchased in the past.Georgia P.

I bought this because I recently had to have brain surgery due to a brain bleed, and my scar was itching like crazy. This sooths my scalp and stops the itch as soon as I spray it on, wet or dry hair. It also helps with the frizz, enhances my waves. I like that it prevents breakage and strengthens. It's moisturizing. It helps detangle. It's super affordable. The only thing I don't like about it, is the spray nozzle, a lot of times it comes out in clumps, and it makes a mess on the bottle. I would definitively recommend this.christina.h

This is my new favorite hair product. As someone with a lot of hair, but very fine hair, it’s hard to find a product that doesn’t weigh me down- this allows for my hair to have shape and volume that lasts. The best results I’ve had came from using a denman brush to curl my hair, smoothing the roots over once. This method achieved beautiful formed waves for three days after. Verb is much less expensive than other curl products I’ve tried and it out performs all of them. I would highly recommend this to anyone with loose curls or waves, especially those with fine frizz prone hair like me. For reference I use this after I wash my hair with a kevin murphy cowash. Wow, I love this! I was hesitant because I see a lot of influencers use it and I always worry that that over hype things. But it really does reduce frizz and hold curl. A little goes a very long way, so it is easy to overdo it. My hair is 2C/3A and I live in a pretty dry climate and this was the perfect balance. I will say it did seem to "weigh down" my hair a bit more than other products, however, I'll take slightly less volume to have non-frizzy and light curls. I love Verb products. This one was new to me, but I had to try it. Glad I did! My tired, frizzy, permed curls were dying quickly. I needed a pick- me- up for them and this did the trick. A little, tiny bit goes a long way – all of Verb is like this. I love that because the product lasts, which means I'm not spending a fortune on hair, but getting a good, quality product. Also, the curl lasted all day until the next shower. It's not greasy, smells nice and not like a bunch of grocery store chemicals. It actually lifts my curls and gives a bit of volume without weighing them down like some creams can do. There's movement and the styling is natural, but stays in place.GuenX

WOW! This is the most incredible hair product. I've been using Oribe Gold Lust shampoo, conditioner, and oil for years. I decided to try this because many of the reviews I read were positive. This cream does everything it says it does, but to the touch it feels like nothing is there- it's light as air, holds my curls in place, adds healthy shine, and makes my hair feel like silk to the touch. First of all this cream smells very nice. I don’t know if this just isn’t a fit for my hair type but it’s really kind of sticky and doesn’t give me much silky or sleekness. My hair is fine and naturally curly, also chemically treated and frizz prone. This kind of made my hair feel sticky and tangly and not silky at all when I blew it out, and I definitely got frizz later when I went out in the humidity. I like other Oribe products but this didn’t work for me or my hair. For the price I was really hoping it would be a knock out but I’ll go back to my other tried and true favorites 1) Olaplex #6 and 2) Kerastase Discipline smoothing cream. They work better and overall cost less.steelerkate

I finally gave up just looking at this and finally ordered without any expectations even reading the excellent reviews. I been using kerastase discipline for years and happy with it as it kept my thick curly hair straight for a week even in humidity just a few touch ups between washes. But wanted to try this because my friend swear by it and the oil as well. It is AMAZING!!!! Is very thick when put it on your hands but once you rubbed it became a cream easy to spread on the hair, the smell is citrusy to me but very light, once I put it on my damp hair I do a twist and clipped wait for maybe 20 minutes and start blow drying, just doing that my hair is soooo soft and shiny with a beautiful salon look but I do flat iron after and OMG the softness is even more and my dry/splits end just disappear! Hair looks super healthy, and no greasy at all no matter how much you use, hair looks naturally straight and very light to the touch.I’m obsessed with this cream it’s been very humid here in Canada and my hair stay the same as when I ironed. It is worth the price and is just a bit more than the discipline one so I think I will stick to this one as a get more benefits. Hope they start selling in the stores too. I like this conditioner. Leaves my hair feeling very soft and smooth. I don’t have extremely curly hair but it does define my waves to make them appear more curlier. I however don’t think the price and the amount you get is justifiable since other products of this same size go for $8-10. If it was $10 cheaper than I’d give 5 stars. But $20 for both shampoo and conditioner adds up and almost seems a bit steep for something that doesn’t exactly do anything differently than other products I’ve used. Thankfully I’ve got shorter hair so I don’t ever feel like I’m using a lot of this product. But I’d recommend it to someone who isn’t worried about spending an extra $10 for something that does what Shea Moisture does.Cindy R

I have funny curls – my hair grows in almost straight, but then waves, and once a year I get an all over perm. I've tried almost literally everything. It seems I no sooner find a product line I like, and my hair no longer likes it. However, I noticed from the get-go that my hair felt amazing with all of the Rizo's products. The conditioner is a DREAM, the shampoo so far is not stripping or drying out my hair (others say they won't – but they do), it's not messing with my color (I also color my hair about every 5-7 weeks), and the leave in conditioner just keeps the softness in all day without weighing my hair down or letting it frizz. Started using these products almost two years ago, thought I found my holy grail products my hair was thriving. Started losing my hair blamed it on my stressful job & bad diet. Went to the dermatologist who told me to check into the products I was using. Saw reviews of other people complaining or hair loss from using Rizos finally felt relived. I have been natural for over 4 years now and have struggled with twist outs and braid outs the entire 4 years. I loooove this stuff. Sooo moisturizing and will have those curls POPPIN’! I have 4a/3c hair and it works wonderfully.
