I spoke with a Fendrihan representative before purchase to discuss a few DE safety razor options for the beginner and he pointed out that this Feather model is obviously not the equal of an all-metal razor for durability and perhaps for certain elements of design. There are certainly reasonably-priced all-metal options here that you could probably use for a lifetime and leave to descendants in your estate! However, I've had a good experience relying on this model for my first safety razor and not simply for its low cost. With only a little practice, I found it easy to get a close, comfortable shave; I particularly like using the Feather brand blades (2 are included) though you'll almost certainly want to buy a sample pack of other brands to see what works best for you. Because much of it is plastic, it's very lightweight and ready to throw into your luggage for travel, letting you leave your gorgeous all-metal dream machine at home, safe from loss while on the road. If, like me at first, you really just want to dip your toe into the safety-razor-shaving waters, this is an economically-painless way to do it. And if your experience is anything like mine has been, you won't go back to multi-blade cartridges from the Big Names ever again. Especially if you already wet-shave, you owe it to yourself to give DE safety razors a try and this is a great starter's option.Jeff
For an inexpensive TTO razor, the Feather ticks the boxes. It features a robust plastic & metal construction, a smooth open and closing mechanism, good blade alignment and even a plastic carry case. I bought it for travelling rather than taking one of my vintage or more valuable razors. The Feather provides a mild but reasonably efficient shave and would work well with the Feather blades (although I have yet try that combination). If I have one criticism, it concerns the case. With all the types of plastics available, razor manufacturers insist on using the nasty brittle kind that CD cases are made of, and are so prone to cracking and breaking. I've been using these Venus Extra Smooth refills for well over 10 years. I can say with certainty, no razor on the market works as well as these (I've tried almost all of them!). The razor glides smoothly across my skin with the help of added moisture ribbons that surround the blades. Even though the moisture ribbons do help aid in shaving, I don't recommend using the razor without some type of shave gel or cream. Venus suggests that one refill can last a month. As someone who shaves VERY often, I can completely agree with this, and usually only have to change mine out every 3-4 weeks. When using a fresh refill, the blades will be much sharper. You'll want to be a little more careful at first, but they will quickly dull to a more useable sharpness quickly. I cannot recommend these refills enough! I don't know what I would do if Venus ever took them off the market!renalee88
I decided to get myself a Razor because I wanted to get a different one for myself than the ones I normally use. When I got this one the cartridge was in the container along with the razor I just had to attach the two of them. It was not easy to get the razor out of the small container it came in. So I had to click it into the cartridge stem. There is also a button on the stem to press forward when I decide to get a replacement for the razor. It also has 5 blades for a nice and close shave. Let me just say this is by far the Best Razor I had ever used in My life. I absolutely love it. When I shaved let's just say my skin was super soft. It gave me a clean and soft shave without stubble. I was raised on a straight Razer. Best shave ever but not safe. The double edge MicroTouch-ONE-Razer work great if you don't rush shaving. I dry off the precision blade and Razer after each shave, and have had as many as 25 shaves per blade! I used to use Gellette Stainless double edge blade decade's ago, no longer made. This Micro Touch Razer is a great replacement to an old design from the 40's I Love it. I just wish the blades were easier to locate at the local pharmacy. The razor is very similar to the one I used during my stint in the Army and for years thereafter. I think it was made by Gillette back then. I got caught up in the disposable craze and used them for decades. You will not be able to shave as quickly as you would with a disposable. That said, go ahead and buy the Van Der Hagen shave set also for the full shaving experience…brush, shaving soap, mug and brush/razor stand. Getting DE blades may be difficult but they are available through the internet and some drug stores. As I said, take your time and make shaving an event to appreciate. Wonderful razors! I have used the pink Venus disposable sensitive razors since they were released years ago but after they were recently changed I was no longer a fan of the sensitive disposable razors, so I when I found these and tried them I instantly fell in love. They are exactly like the original pink sensitive disposable razors. Not only do I not get razor burn, but these razors last through multiple shaves. I bought a $10 bikini trimmer at a bargain store about a decade ago. It became my absolute favorite HG trimmer that never failed me. I normally use the Schick hydrosilk razor that has the trimmer on the other end. I love that razor but I never use the trimmer so I switched to this. First off, this is ridiculously big. Like there’s no need for the razor head to be THAT huge. It’s hard to get into small places and is not easy to store in the shower. Secondly, the soap isn’t that hydrating. It didn’t irritate my skin but it also didn’t make it feel moisturized. Lastly, and most annoyingly, you CANNOT clean hair out of this thing. The hair gets trapped underneath the razor head and there’s no way to run water through it to clean it. Gross. Definitely will not repurchase again!Madison
My skin is so sensitive I have to watch everything I use or I have a reaction. I decided to give this Schick intuition Razora try and I am so glad I did. For the first time in years I found a razor that I can use that does not give me razor bumps at all. It was so easy to shave my legs with the handle having a great grip and the head of the razor moving with the angles of my legs calves ankles toes everywhere that I shaved. I felt the way the razor is I also was able to get a very close shave. I was able to go longer in between shaving the normal things to this razor. The biggest bonus was that I didn’t even need any shaving cream when shaving my legs with this razor. It glided very smoothly on my skin it made my legs feel amazing. The razor head has five blades which gave you a very close shave leaving your skin feeling silky smooth. The handle is the perfect size for a great grip allowing you to control the razor very easily. I am so glad that I finally found a razor that works on sensitive skin like it says it will. The fact I didn’t have any irritation razor bumps in grown hairs is amazing. I really like the design of the razor and the colors are so cute. The teal and white go perfect together on the razor. The blades seem to last a lot longer than other razors also which is a great bonus so you don’t have to change them out as often if you do not like. I also tried the razor on my face to shave off peach fuzz end it worked amazing. I’d like to shave the peach fuzz on my face so that my make up looks flawless but I would always get worried about in grown hairs or pimples on my face. Thankfully this razor worked amazing getting the peach fuzz off really easily and left my skin feeling very smooth. I really like this razor I’m so glad that I came across it. Even if I didn’t have sensitive skin I would definitely use this razor I think you should use something for sensitive skin especially on your face. I like that the razor is refillable because it allows me to switch the razor head to shave my under arms and legs and then switch the head to shave my face. Even when I shaved my underarms I didn’t have any razor bumps like I usually get from other razors. I have had to use men’s razors for a long time and finally glad that I found a woman’s razor that actually works just as well gets a close shave and doesn’t cause irritation to my skin. This razor is a game changer if you have any issues with shaving I would highly recommend it. I also think it’s a great razor for beginners if your daughter is starting to shave the grip of the handle and how easy it is to control this razor because of the head moving with the curves on your legs is perfect for any young lady that’s just learning to shave. Since they have not used a razor before you do not know how sensitive their skin will be so at least starting with a razor that’s made for sensitive skin would be the best razor to try first. NOT AN INCENTIVIZED REVIEW! I have been using this razor type (older handle style obviously) since I was pregnant with my oldest, who is now 13. I needed to shave and couldn’t manage the shaving cream, a razor, and my growing belly! This razor came in absolutely clutch. The lotion bar does wear down much quicker than I would like, but with 3 kids now, let’s just say this razor puts in the work when I finally get around to shaving. When my oldest started shaving, it was a no-brained to get this as her first razor. Due to it’s design, I can count the number of times I have cut myself – in 14 years – on one hand. I have been shaving for more than sixty years. There are currently two razors, both held by bullet stands, on my bathroom sink countertop, a Feather AS-D2 and a 34D. The 34C, combined with a Personna Med Prep blade, among other quality blades, a Feather or a Kai, in my experience, produce a smooth and comfortable, always safe, experience. I estimate using the Feather, incomparable in my experience, on a ratio of about four or five to one to the 34C. I rinse the 34C thoroughly when in use. I clean the instrument with Barbicide about monthly. I compare the 34C favorably to such razors as the Aristocrat, the Supply, and the Envoy, each being of high quality. The deciding factor, for me, in the priority of the Feather and the 34C is the complete absence of fear of cutting from either. Enjoy shaving fellow travelers.John M.
I thought this razor might be a bit more difficult to use without cutting my chin off from the YouTube guys. They all said it was an aggressive razor that took a progressive wet shaver to enjoy this razor. I was actually surprised at the ease of glide and simplicity of use. I just used some normal strokes for my first pass. Then some shorter ones to baby my face up. It was as simple as that. I merely allowed the weight of the razor to do the heavy lifting with a Feather DE blade. Maybe my soap was better. But it was and is a fun razor to use. Quick every day shaver in my opinion.Cory T.
I typically use only TTO razors, just prefer them. But after years of hearing about the 34C I decided to buy the HD model. Best price around was here at NE shaving BTW. Anyways, the first time I used it I was amazed at just how smooth and great a shave I got. The blade gap, at least for me was perfect. I could see this being great for beginners as well as seasoned shavers. The knurls aren't aggressive but surprisingly hold up great wet. I usually use an alum block after I shave and was really surprised to find that this razor has left the least amount of stingy areas of any razor I own, and I love my fatboys and Rockwell model T's for the same reason. But the 34C was just a bit smoother. I like to switch razors now and then and this will definitely be in the line up. I recommend it to anyone. For reference as far as mild or aggressive I will just say I use setting 5 with my fatboys and setting 3.5 with my Model T's and find the 34 C HD blade gap to be comparable to those gap settings.
