A lot of reviewers say it burns. It does a little but this is what made me feel like it's working. I didn't get any redness just felt a tingle. Aren't retinoids supposed to sting a little if they're strong? I can't say I pay close enough attention to see a difference. Then again, I've tried other retinoids and don't see a difference with them either, so I might just not have an eye for gradual improvement. Some other Retinoid products didn't have the slightest sting, which made me feel like they just don't have any oomph. But I could be wrong. After exfoliating in the shower and application, the product stings my skin and it has a burning sensation that has lingered for several minutes. My face is quite red from it – probably from the Retinol and possibly from applying it ontop of my serum with hyaluronic acid (my mistake). All the previous times I've applied it, there is a slight tingling where you massage the product into the skin. Not unpleasant but on sensitive skin it may be irritating and may not be suitable to apply every day. Press down on the top to squeeze out the product – a full push down dispenses just a touch too much product for my face – but I would probably use this amount on an extra dry day. The product comes out the colour between pale yellow to pale seafoam green. There is only a slight scent – not overpowering but not fragrance-free and I quite enjoy it. Bonus: you can unscrew the lid to scoop out the product at the end of use. I know it's supposed to be a 2-in-1 serum with cream but it's consistency and the feel on my skin makes me want to either use a serum first and/or apply a moisturizer after. I've been applying a serum before and it seems to be the best route for me. It's also winter so my skin is naturally dryer than normal so I would be happy to use this product without an additional serum or moisturizer in the hot summer. It's got a thick consistency but is not greasy at all. It soaks into the skin quickly and doesn't leave any kind of residue. Sometimes when I use a serum and moisturizer, there's an odd reaction where it pills or balls up, like dead skin – this does not do that. i started using this on Sunday, as well as the Even Tone Serum, and i definitely felt like my dark spots were already clearing up. it does make my skin dry and peeling, so i definitely will not be using it everyday. also, today was the first day that i was out in the sun for a while since beginning to use this product, and my skin sensitivity is waaaaay higher. i came back home and my face is covered in little tiny bumps all over. and yes, i was wearing sunscreen. i wear it everyday, and with these products i was sure to put some on before my walk. since i started using them both at the same time, i'm not sure which one exactly caused this reaction (or if both of them did), but i'm really hoping that my skin will settle back down and i can continue using this because it seemed to be working already. it is only Thursday, and i've used it two or three times, so i will scale back and let my skin recover before using again.nicole
Considerations: 1. Combination-oily, acne-prone, sensitive, African American (chocolate skin). 2. Adult over 25. I have been using this product regularly (every other day) for about 2 weeks. I’ve had the products for 2 months. When I initially used it, I stopped because I thought I had a bad reaction. Thinking back, I incorporated three new products into my routine that week and my skin wasn’t happy. I’ve notice that this product worked best when I used it every other day/two days on my skin for the first week. Now, I find that I can use it two days in a row and skip one day. Cleanse with gentle cleanser (double cleanse) 2. Moisturize while skin is damp 3. Apply Urban SkinRX cream (dime sized amount) I do not use anything else outside of moisturizer when I use this because my skin with freak out, but do what works for you. As someone that ranaway from tretinion, I decided to look for a tretinion alternative which was retinol. So I purchased this @urbanskinrx Retinol Rapid Repair Dark Spot Treatment. I didn't hesitate to get it because it contains Alpha Arbutin, AZA, Gluthathione, Kojic acid 2% and Niacinamide 5% (I'm niacinamide intolerant but I still decided to test the waters). For over 3 months this product was in my routine until I threw it away. For starters, my favourite colour is green even though I barely have a lotta green stuff, I love that it comes in a green opaque pump bottle. My dermatologist advised I use a retinol and had me start on .5 and then move to 1.0 after I adjusted. I had purchased Obagi products before and knew they were quality products so I bought the 1.0 Retinol. It took some adjusting to the higher strength but I weaned myself in slowly and just as my doctor said, the blemishes stopped. Bonus, my pores look smaller and my skin is softer. You MUST wear sunscreen when using retinols. Even if you don’t have blemishes, your skin will benefit from using retinols, just go slow and listen to your skin.
Have used Obagi Retinol since recommendation from plastic surgeon and cosmetic doc. 1.0% strength is great for getting rid of fine lines and just getting rid of outer skin flaws. If new to retinol, start slow on 1.0% or get lower concentration. You may have some redness and skin flaking but it will subside. You know it's working and authentic when your skin reacts. I've been using the prescription for many years, gradually working myself up to the stronger product. I decided to try the Obagi360 Retinol 1.0 Cream for a change. I think it compares favorably to the prescription product, and my results appear very similar to what I experienced with the Rx. However, I was already on the 1.0 Rx, for years, and don't recommend that users new to retinol start with this strength. I get occasional mild to moderate peeling, but that just means it's working, in my opinion. I apply this five or six nights per week, then give myself a night or two off. I like how the tube dispenses the cream, and I haven't had a problem accessing the last little amount in the tube, unlike some other reviewers. In fact, I cut open my first tube when it seemed empty (not that difficult), and there was only one scant dose remaining to be scraped out.

First time I bought this, I underestimated the effects of the retinol ingredient. So I was shocked when my face peeled and became itchy because I didn't research the effects. To add, i tried this at the most convenient time. Lol (Do not use this days before a major event) After, I stopped. I tried it again and stuck with It (through the known retinol peeling face), followed instructions and mixed it with B-Hydra by the same brand and WOW! My skin transformed within weeks. Texture was baby smooth, acne scars had faded and glow was at a high. It was like I followed a great skin routine for like 4 months but it had only been weeks. I bought it a second time and my skin no longer peels because it's use to retinol. It's still doing the job, not the dramatic transformation as before. I love this retinol. Heard loads of reviews saying it gave them a bad reaction/caused lots of purging, but that didn’t happen to me. I mixed it 50:50 with the drunk elephant b hydra for the first couple weeks (as they suggest), then slowly increased the ratio of retinol. Didn’t really get any reaction or purging doing it this way, except for the odd spot near the beginning (I don’t normally get spots so this was defo purging, however it was only like 1 or 2 little ones at a time max). The retinol also leaves a nice feeling on your skin after application. I have oily/combo skin, and find retinols/night time skincare in general to be too greasy. But this one is nice and not greasy at all, it absorbs really well and leaves my skin soft to touch. The only other retinol I’ve found that’s not greasy/oily is La Roche Posay’ serum one with B3 in it. Think I prefer the drunk elephant one now tho.bootscustomer28
Let me preface this by saying I don’t have particularly sensitive skin—I’ve had no problem with even daily use of products like acids or other retinols in the past. However, even after 6 months of trying to get my skin adjusted to this product, I still can only use it once a week without getting EXTREMELY and noticeably flaky, even if I mix/follow it up with a moisturizer. I was introduced to this through a deluxe sample back when it was in a tube (I’m not sure if it was just an older and less active sample, if the tube had something to do with the stability of the retinol, or if they changed formulas). In the tube, I used the product ~4 times a week with no issue. I saw some improvement in forehead lines so I bought it myself (now in the pump bottle) and continued use as I had before. My skin got extremely flaky, but I figured I was just adjusting to a “fresh” (and therefore more active) bottle. After 2 or 3 weeks of continued flakiness with no sign of improvement, I scaled back use until settling on once a week only, which I combined with B-hydra to avoid irritation. I’ve been using this product once a week (Sunday nights only) for about 5 months now, so last Thursday I thought I’d probably adjusted enough to use it twice in one week. I was wrong—it has now been 4 days since last use and I’m still extremely flaky to the point it’ll probably take another day or two before I’m back to normal. I’m giving the product two stars because, even just using once a week, my forehead expression lines and “11” are noticeably softer (although I just turned 28 so they weren’t thaaat deep to begin with). However, I don’t believe this is a product most people can build up to regular use with, or at least not in a reasonable timeframe. And, if only used once a week, I don’t feel like I’m getting as much anti-aging benefit as I would from a lower % product I could use more often. When I applied it for the first time, unlike others I didn’t find any tingling feeling or any discomfort at all. I mentioned to my wife who said that is probably because I have brown skin and the tingling happens from retinol generally on white skin which is more sensitive. However what I have noticed is that my skin feels a little tender especially around the eyes and after shower and facewash my skin shines like I’ve applied something glossy or polished my skin. The skin around my eyes especially feels tighter and in general my face looks much more refreshed. I am only applying it twice a week but whatever it’s doing is definitely noticeable. This retinol is superb, my second purchase. I use this retinol at night, my skin loves it. I have an acne prone skin, fine line, acne scars, pigmentation and since I started using this product my skin looks a lot better than before. My acne is gone and I only get pimples when I eat sugary snacks. Make sure to use Moisturizer as retinol can really makes your skin dry. If you have sensitive skin, better use it only 3 time a week. Sunscreen is a must when using retinol products so make sure to wear sunscreen everyday specially when you go out under the sun. First of all, I would like to mention the packaging. It is quite weighty and looks very expensive. 🙂 The cream itself has a yellow colour and a light scent reminiscent of citrus fruits. As I have been using retinol products for quite some time, this one did not appear aggressive on my skin, there was no flaking or irritation. The skin stayed moderately moisturized and nourished until the morning. Which is a very rare thing for my oily skin! I usually want to wash off the night cream in the morning as soon as possible, because of the greasy feeling on my face. But this cream is different and I like it so much. So far there are good things and bad things about this product. First, I skin cycle, so I only use this product twice a week. I'm sure it is irritating for some peoples skin, but since I don't use it nightly I haven't had any issues. I was broken out before I started using this and it didn't make it worse. My skin has actually started clearing up. It is oily, but since I only use it at night I don't mind. If you are having problems with the oily feeling I recommend using a little less product and topping it with a moisturizer. I love using The Ordinary brand moisturizer with this retinol. After 30ish minutes I don't feel oily at all. The only hands down bad part of this product is the smell. It smells a lot like baby spit up. The smell does fade after a hour or two, but it's still gross. I did read the package and I do keep I refrigerated, so that isn't the issue. I may try the 2% by this brand once this one is empty, but overall this is a good product that works well.MommyWaggs3
I LOVE this product. I have oily skin, to the point my forehead is SLICK after just 2 hours of cleaning my face and this stuff literally fixed my problem that I thought would never go away. Of course, if your skin is not used to Retinol you should start with something lower. I use this EVERY DAY after i shower and do my routine, it has never given me any sort of reaction but again that's because my skin is used to it. Those who have a problem with pilling are not layering their skin products correctly, you should be applying by viscosity starting with the thinnest serum/product you have first. Okay. Warning. Not really graphic but- This is serious. I'm not here for anti-aging- I'm here for skin issues- the worst kind. If you've had severe cystic acne, clinically treated and healed- with irritated, puffy scars that never seem to fully heal, they could be ingrown hairs! (I was SHOCKED that I had HAIR trapped in small, healed, scars- one the face- near my hairline, chin, and large areas on my nose) (one at a time, growing for years) This stuff is amazing. Well, this works. I had a bad journey with tretinoin, but i thought retinol wasn’t strong enough, but i gave it a shot to start slow again because i have dark spots and i feel under the lips a bit saggy and i tried every vitamin C or glycolic serum and nothing happened. And i started with skin cycling at least 2 weeks and then i used every 2 days. And i bought the serum Faded, so I’m using the two of them, but never the same day. And yes i felt my skin a stinging sensation, so i use Cicaplast from La Roche Posay before retinol over the more sensitive parts like the nose, lips and eyes, then retinol and after 20 minutes i use Tolerance lotion from avene, and i don’t like the farmacy stuff, but believe me, those stuff keep my on my retinol journey without irritation or break outs. The mineral water it is really good to keep the irritation away. So i felt in one month my skin very nice, less pores, the dark spots are amazingly cleared up, the texture is the best i had in years. Let me start out by saying that I've been using a .5% retinol cream on my face for a few years with no issues at all so I thought it was time to go up in retinol strength. After the 2nd-3rd application of this product in the first week, my face was extremely sensitive and I had visible red rashes on my face. I was unable to use any toner or face wash on my face with intense burning for days. I figured I needed to spread out the time in between application even further so I only used it once a week for a couple weeks and then moved to applications once about every 3 days. I wasn't too surprised by the reactions I had because I have heard of a "purging" period in the first month of use. After a month I was still having patches of dry, red rashes though less severe than before. After a while I realized I had developed eczema on my face which I have had on my hands before in the past so I had to start using my old eczema cream on my face multiple times a day. After a solid 2 months of use and still dealing with visible rashes on my face, I decided to stop the use of the retinol cream and after one week the eczema completely went away. This week i started using the retinol cream again after having not used it for approximately 10 days. I had been using retinol for 4 months before I decided to try the 1% strength because I just hadn’t really seen much difference prior. I was nervous as to how much it would irritate my skin so I followed recommendations if only 3 times a week, moisturize well, stay out of sun, etc. I used it for 2 weeks, saw more results than I had in the previous 4 months, had no issues with irritation, redness or peeling/ flaking. I’m now at 6 weeks and friends, family, co-workers have told me that I look really good. Others have asked if I changed my makeup. I had nearly given up on the idea of anything improving my skin. I'm prone to constant closed comedones and dehydrated skin (along with monthly, hormonal acne). Dermatologists threw products at me left and right with no rhyme or reason. I was frustrated and did a lot of research on my own. What my research boiled down to in terms of retinol was 1) There's no need to pay an arm and a leg. Brands like Neutrogena and ROC are just as effective as the luxury brands. And 2) If in doubt, go with a lower percentage. I had tried The Inkey List's retinol with no luck (I don't think it is a true retinol). I knew my face could tolerate a mid-to-high potency of retinol after having gone through some potent topical medications. I opted for 0.5% (as opposed to 1.0%) just to play it safe. After 3-4 weeks of consistent use, this stuff is my miracle in a bottle. My closed comedones have drastically subsided and I have a really healthy, dewy glow. The only thing that is left is 1 normal, hormonal blemish. Some notes: I do maintain a real simple skincare regimen so that when I introduce a product, it is obvious whether or not that product works. Also, retinol is only effective if you follow the directions. Use this at night, do not over exfoliate, and follow up with a moisturizer.hannah.p
I cannot be more excited about how much this has helped my facial skin. I have deep forehead lines from squinting and scowling at life. I used to get Botox, but since moving and Covid, I have not been able to, (years). Lately, I noticed the lip wrinkles and marionette lines and I don’t want to get fillers yet. I’m 45, I tried using expensive plumper cremes and acid peels with no avail. They’re short lived and not worth it. I recently read an article about this product and figured it was worth a try. I do use a retinol lotion regularly. However, after a few days of using this along with the retinol crème, I am actually seeing results! Not 3 months of botox, but my skin changing. The Neutrgena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Retinol Pro+ 5% power serum is designed to target the look of deep wrinkles and dark spots. The serum comes in a dropper bottle and has a lovely light pleasant smell. After cleansing morning and in the evening I pump 3 drops into the palm of my hand then using my fingers I massage the serum into my face, neck and chest area. If I’m just using it on my face 2-3 drops is enough but a few more drops are needed if using on my neck/chest. I find the serum to absorb really well with a non greasy feel to it after I massage it lightly into my skin. I really like how it pairs with other products I use, moisturiser, sunscreen and foundation. I like to use it directly on my skin but found it works well when mixed in with my moisturiser. I have found after several weeks of use that my face is looking clearer, line free and my one stubborn dark spot has faded greatly, almost to the point of not being seen at all which is a big plus for me. I find that I have not experienced any redness or irritation when using this serum and would recommend it to anyone that has previously used retinol and doesn’t react adversely to using it. When applying the Retinol in the morning I always apply a sunscreen as my last step before venturing outside. I absolutely love this serum, it's moisturizing, helped even my skin and reduced my forehead wrinkles. I was at a point where my facial skin was dry patches and forehead was all wrinkly. I found this retinol serum at a local TJmaxx for $10 and I thought of giving it a try. It's a 30 ml amber bottle with a dropper. I use it morning and evening and in just 2 months of time; my friends started giving me compliments for how my skin looked. I was shocked at what it had done to my skin, in a good way though! If you have never used retinol before and want to add it into your routine, start with this one! It is so gentle but very effective! I seen very noticeable results in about 3 weeks and at around the 6 week mark my skin texture had completely changed. I did bump up to a higher percentage after I finished this tube off, but go at your own pace according to what your skin can tolerate. I rarely write reviews. This cream is always sold out for a reason . It works! There is a noticeable difference in the lines on my forehead, my pores look smaller and it also seemed to clear up some sun spots I had. It’s gently and effective . Perfect for a first time retinol user. It’s gentle so there was no purge at all. I also find it to be moisturizing enough that you don’t need to add a moisturizer on top unless you want to. I have been using this product for just 3 weeks now and I feel that it's helped a lot with overall texture and appearance of my skin. I don't have the most blemishes from acne but I feel that those I do have, have been improving since I began using this. I initially wanted to start retinol to target the hyperpigmentation around my mouth which I would imagine is relatable to a lot of my fellow WOC with the same concern. I had been spending a ton of money on skin care for so many years and realized it wasn't really working. I had been trying to prevent lines and wrinkles for years and all that money had not paid off! Yes, they make this in a fragrance free version but I love this so much I'm not even interested in it. I was a little hesitant to try this brand out, because I was unfamiliar with it, and because I judged it (unfairly) by the basic packaging. I was so wrong! This stuff is just as good as much more expensive brands. I love that the formulation is a light, non-greasy gel that does not aggravate my oily skin. I’m not 100% sure if this is the exact same product. But it is a 1% retinol booster by Paulas Choice. I love this stuff! Although it’s hard to really tell if this is something that “works” considering it reduces fine lines and increases collagen in the skin. So it’s a little hard to tell how well it works before using it for awhile BUT I have been using it for a few months now and I feel it has helped plump up my skin some. (I’m also taking a collagen supplement) The smell isn’t too bad. The only thing I don’t like about it is it’s a little drying but that’s not uncommon for retinol as an ingredient on its own. It’s a pretty drying ingredient altogether. All in all, I do recommend this product. The price is a little high, but considering I’ve been using it for three months now and I still have quite a bit of product I would say it’s worth it. Not sure if I look better after using this product because it is actually doing anything, or because the product is so tinted that it is practically makeup, and very hard to wash off at that. It is not noticeable on my skin, as I'm Asian. But my white pillowcases and towels have a definite yellow tinge to them in places, impossible to wash out, even with bleach. On the other hand, this product has indeed mostly taken care of a recurring patch of bumpy irritated skin on my cheek, as long as I use it regularly. Just wish it didn't ruin all the white goods. I just really like strivectin. It is the nicatinamide and the formulation of the moisturisers that agree with my skin so well. It's always hard to know if something extra is working (retinol) so I'd think of this as the original strivectin plus retinol as a bonus. I haven't experienced any drying or problems. It seems to me these products are anti-irritating, and if we're going by creme de la mare's philosophy, you're better off with something that reduces inflammation. Oh my god I love this! Feel so lucky to find a 1) fragrance free 2)body moisturiser that 3) contains retinol, and 4)that retinol is encapsulated! It’s beautifully moisturising, nice and thick but not greasy, leaves my eczematic skin nice and protected. On top of that, my skin LOVES retinoids, and this helped my eczema flair around my belly button clear a little more quickly (beware those who are new to retinoids though this will not be your experience AT FIRST). Love the ingredients, in fact if this had ceramides in it, it’d basically be MY perfect body product haha. The retinol is encapsulated, stabilising it and making it more effective at penetrating the skin barrier while also making it gentler! This is also a great priced product which makes all of this even more exciting to me. Only ding I have is the pump! It’s terrible lol, and mine basically stopped working with 3/4 of the tub full! The moisturiser, while perfect for my skin, is too thick for the pump, so I ended up opening the lid to scoop it with my hands which… is hard when I’m wet after a shower! Plus I get nervous adding moisture to my tub products, worried that it might overwhelm the preservatives and lead to microbe growth. That was disappointing bc my second fav body moisturiser (CeraVe) has the same problem. I have been trying to incorporate anti-aging products into my skincare routine, and wanted to try a cream based version instead of a retinol serum as my skin is sensitive to new products. I have been regularly using the product since I purchased it, and have been noticing improvements in my skin. Using the cream did result in some skin peeling near my eyebrows during the first few weeks, but that is apparently a sign that the product is working. The cream is not heavy and feels moisturizing during application. I have noticed visibly brighter and smoother skin; the texture of my skin has really improved. This is my first time ever trying a Retinol but I am very excited. I'm going slow as recommended by DRMTLGY and FB aficionados . I'll prob try once a week the first week and then 2x the second week and then work my way up to 3x a week. I'm doing a marathon not a sprint. I've used it once and had no breakouts or redness. I did feel some warming of my face a day after the fact but i presume that means it working, so i'm happy about that. I'm 61 and really looking forward to how these serums, etc. will work on me. I feel i'm behind the 8 ball but not beating myself up because i saw on another site where an 80 something year old woman was raving about a certain skincare and she said she wishes she had started sooner. I feel it's never too late. Just start when you can. I think i started thinking more of my face regime after menopause bc i started seeing more wrinkles showing up. Probably due to the lack of estrogen or just getting older. who knows. but now I have a Brand/DRMTLGY in my corner to help me out. Can't beat the prices and the Rewards program. I'm all for it all. It's helping out a whole lot. Thank you in advance. P.S. can't wait to add the Needle Less serum to my regime. Oh, and i have a hyperpigmentation spot, the size of a dime approx, on my side jaw. I'm only one week in on the DRMTLGY regiment and I'm already seeing results. I never had much of a skincare routine, just a cleanser and a user of benzoyl peroxide cream to help deal with breakouts. The combination of products has been amazing. My need for the benzoyl peroxide has ceased… no breakouts. The texture of my skin is so smooth, the discoloration is fading, my pores are smaller, and my big forehead wrinkle between my brows is not as deep. I cannot wait to see what the results are after long-term usage. For the Retinol, I started using it everyother day and have had no issues with my skin reacting to it in a negative way. Retinol Complex 0.5% goes on easily, feels incredibly smooooooth! Pleasant subtle scent. Even 24 hours after applying this product, my skin feels baby smooth, I LOVE it! As for assisting in reducing age lines, indeed it has! I am frequently mistaken by those in their 50's & 60's for someone far younger, I hear, "Well….you will understand what aging is about once you turn 50….you are not 50 yet are you?"
