With return postage and a "restocking fee" I would have spent $30 to return a $40 helmet. A bummer since my purchase of the wrong size was due to their chart being misleading. My old helmet got lost in the move a few years back. Since my husband has never worn a helmet i ended up not replacing it and going bareheaded when we rode. This helmet is comfortable, lightweight and seems durable. I'm not really a fan of bike helmets but know they are necessary in case of an accident. With this helmet though, I don't mind it. Living in Florida; it is HOT! The helmet has lots of ventilation holes and I like that I can wash the inside padding by removing it and then velcro-ing back in place. I was very excited about this helmet and immediately tossed the packaging. My mistake, because this helmet is very uncomfortable. It gets stuck in my hair every time I take it off. Helmet looked great to start, my son likes the adjustable fit. After one use, however, the tab that locks the head grip into the shell has come loose so the helmet flops. I’ve submitted a warranty but noticed that as a weak point in every helmet at the store. My other kids have adjustable helmets as well but their attachment points are much stronger (different brands). My son who wears this one is beyond frustrated and wants to buy something else. I almost never crash so this is just a precaution because I don't believe you should ever ride without a helmet. The helmet, and it seems all Bell adult size helmets, do not fit adults. They barely fit on my head. The real problem is the chin strap. I adjusted it all the way out. I can just get it snapped together. I have found this to be true with the different styles of bell helmets. The chin strap is to tight. If it's to small for my oldest son, I will give it away to a teenager.davi.tille
This is was a pretty solid helmet for my large headed 6 year old. I wish it had an manual adjustment around the head instead of the elastic. It fits on my son's very big head well, and he likes the design. (He doesn't care that it's a "girls" helmet). The visor will be useful for blocking sun when he gets older.Susan

Smith seems to be behind the curve on innovation. I think its really missing a magnetic latch. Which would help to make it easy to latch, and be a 100% assurance that its latched. Other brands are doing this, and think its a big plus. The rear light is a joke, and not a feature. The light is weak, and requires replacing the coin cell 2023 battery when it dies. Why isn't it rechargeable? Could be much better. Fit is good, for big heads. I don't feel like Mushroom when I wear it.aCCe
This helmet is padded all the way around (not just strips) and is very easy to adjust. This makes it secure even on bumpy terrain. The vents worked well and I only felt hot when going up really hard exposed hills when everything hurts anyway. Suggest sizing up for more forehead coverage (long head) or more room (round head). My normal size (small) fit, but I would have preferred a little more room to make adjustments.Steph50
I know it's wrong but sometimes I "forget" to wear my helmet. Some 1980s childhood habits die hard. This helmet, I don't mind so much. Dare I say, I actually enjoy the fit dial on the back enough that I look forward to putting it on, just so I can dial it in, nice and snug. I purchased this helmet specifically because I was looking for an easy way to helmet-mount my gopro for commuter rides. When I saw the helmet had a BUILT IN mounting system, i was immediately sold! The rear mount is perfection. Seriously. It's very sturdy and you have to really try hard to get it off – it's not falling off on accident. It's great to affix trek/bontrager flare rear-lights on. The Top mount, is pretty awful. It doesn't hold whatever you've screwed into the mount stable/stead. It is secured so loose even with fully tightened, that the thing you've mounted (flashlight or gopro) will just limply fall forward and point straight down. Useless for a headlamp or a gopro. Utterly useless. It's because the mount is not actually threaded. It's cheap plastic and the screw they supply is self-threaded with a nut – as you screw the screw the nut tightens against it…this design doesn't get the job done. Not even close. really upsetting to me that Trek put something this poorly designed out there – it had so much potential to be the answer to helmet mounting lights and action cameras! I DO like that both mounts are able to be quickly removed if needed – you can right without them. They are secured with strong magnets and not going anywhere unless you want them to. This was a great design. If only this greatness carried over to the top mount! The wavecell seems like it really would help protect you in a crash and take some of the torque and impact off of your brain. The BOA tightening system is fantastic as always, allows you to literally dial in how tight you need the helmet to fit. Sometimes the plastic of the BOA system rubs against my head and causes pain, but that's really just an adjustment issue. Overall: The helmet is great. The rear mount is great. The BOA and Wavecell are great. The helmet is beautiful and looks pretty slick. The colors are great. But the stupid top mount is awful awful awful. It's not a bad helmet at all. I'd buy it again just for the rear mount feature. But if you're buying this to use for mounting a headlamp or gopro like me.. you'll be disappointed.Lazer
This helmet saved my head twice in 14 months (yes, I replaced after each ac ident). I was hit by car the first time then had a bad spill that put me in intensive care for three days. In both cases I broke bones (lots in the second one) and in both cases my helmet was damaged but in both instances CT scan showed no impacts to my brain I was 75 and 76 respectively when these accidents occurred. I am still riding and was within a month of my second accident took a bike trip in Nova Scotia. The third of these helmets was on my head on that trip and every ride since. I won’t bike without it.LarryB
Realized recently my old Circuit helmet needed to be replaced. Finding that helmet to begin with was an arduous process–I definitely have a 'long oval' head shape. Most helmets are too round and I have to choose between migraine headaches or looking like a mushroom. The Circuit fit perfectly. I was very pleased, then, to see Bontrager had just released an updated Circuit. Things I like: * The shape of the helmet, which continues to fit my head well. * Boa ratchet on the back. Creates a secure, comfortable hold around my head. An improvement on the Headmaster ratchet. * The overall look of the design, especially the top and rear of the helmet. * Improved safety from the wavecel Where the jury is out: * The heat of the helmet in peak summer. Have only been using it in the winter without any overheating issues. We'll see how this–and I–hold up in 90 degree summer temps.By JimmyB

As a bike share rider, I want a helmet that provides adequate protection while being lightweight and compact. Ideally, I could put this helmet in a tote bag and forget about it until I need it again. Needs (highest to lowest): 1) Lightweight – I'm not going to wear it if it's too heavy. 2) Safe – Why bring it if it's not going to protect your head? 3) Compact – Easy to stow so you're not carrying around a random helmet. 4) Flattering – I'm a designer, I'm aesthetic AF. 1) Unfortunately, this helmet is 450g, while my road cycling MIPS Lazer Blade+ helmet is 287g. It is uncomfortably heavy. It's heavier than a Thousand helmet. 2) Is it safe? Well, the walls are super thick, but it doesn't have MIPS, so we'll call it even. 3) It is not that compact – it feels like carrying a spare pair of sneakers. The same tote I'd put this helmet in also fits my other helmet. In the end, I'd rather carry the lighter bag. 4) My head measures 56.6cm and it's just barely too big for the Small, so I had to size up to Med/Lg. It looks big on me. I'm getting Toad from Mario vibes, not cool urban commuter whose helmet was featured in MoMA. Proper fit would require tightening the back adjustment all the way and installing the thicker pads, which wouldn't be bad except for all the above issues. So for all those reasons, it's going back.Christina Y.
