I bought these when upgrading my hybrid bike's pedals to the Shimano SPD SL system. This is my first foray into proper road shoes and I couldn't believe how incredibly light these shoes are after using MTB shoes (without cleats) but they also feel very sturdy. The three velcro straps provide a great fit around the foot. I am usually a UK size 9 shoe so went up to the EU 44 (UK 9.5) and they are pretty snug – I probably could have got away with the EU 45 but I'm not in any discomfort when riding or walking. There is also plenty of ventilation through the shoe which I noticed as soon as I started riding in them. I look forward to many more miles in my Shimano RC1s!RedSte71
These are my first cycling shoes and honestly I didn't expect them to be comfortable. It's uncomfortable to ride with cleats for a first few days. On my first 200km ride I fell thrice as I forgot I had cleats on but by my next 300 km ride I got the hang of it and these shoes performed superbly in the entire 300 km of wet weather. After so much of rough use, didn't find a scratch on them and they appear as good as new after the first wash. I really wanted BOA shoes at the time but the fit on these was superior to stuff costing twice as much, slightly wider than everything else so I wasn't getting sore toes. They take abuse extremely well and have had repeated drops (and a bike drop), scuffs and stamps from flying mounts/dismounts, I'd probably buy them again if it wasn't for needing something easier to undo on the move. They clean easy too as I often have them coated in mix/gel spillage, wipe with a sponge. Come to think of it the velcro I'd have expected to wear out a bit by now is still secure as can be. I ordered a Pearl Izumi Quest Road shoe online. According to the size guide shown with the product, size 39 is equivalent to a US women's 7.5. However, I received the cycling shoes, and the box label says that the 39 is equivalent to a size 8. I am between a size 7.5 and 8, and these are indeed too large on me to wear for cycling. Had I known that these were actually a size 8, I would have ordered a size down. I'll be returning them, unfortunately. I'm not sure why there's a size guide above (with .25" increments in sizes, even) when it doesn't match up to the REI sizing on the box (which actually seems more accurate).Jules

These shoes are very comfortable and it’s nice to have a shimano available for delta look cleats. My only complaint is not the shoe, but REI/Shimano size chart, which is incorrect for US vs EU sizing. I am an 8/38 and ordered a 41 because of the size chart. Of course way too big! I don’t mind the return and reorder but this should be updated. Haven’t ridden with them yet, as I’m now waiting on my correct size, but will try to update when I do.Emily
After being run over twice on the Gold Coast, I decided that Spinning would be a better workout without the abuse – in more ways than one – and opted a few years ago for a half dozen GCN classes on a USB stick & a TV screen in my Garage. These shoes are fantastic! The price is great and I had a small issue with attaching the cleats, I called the customer service and they walked me through it thoroughly. I've had a few crashes and while my expensive pedals got all scratched up, these shoes don't have a mark on them! Gavin might not be a "brand name" like shimano or mavic, but these shoes have lasted longer than "brand name" equipment that I've had. These are definitely worth buying.

Bought a pair in 2011, almost time to buy another set. Good shoes, they served me well. I would only suggest a couple changes: 1. shorten the straps – when I got them secured, there was a lot of extra strap hanging down 2. better glue – mine started to separate the top from the sole at the ball of the foot after a year (I should add that I used them indoor & out, 6 days per week for that year)

Comfortable and secure. Plenty of room in the toe box. My first experience with the BOA dial. I find it easy to get the right tension, and I like the quick release. Easy to get on/off and adjust quickly, which I like as a casual tri-athlete. I find the toe strap essentially useless because its stiff, so its hard to make any meaningful adjustment in either direction. I understand now why reviewers of higher $$ shoes prefer double dials. But I'm happy with my purchase. On a side note, I had a terrible experience with delivery so I don't recommend any purchase from REI that will be shipped by OnTrac.MarcInWA
a decent enough shoe, overall seems well made, just not so well designed. The top strap is ridiculously short, I'm worried that by season's end the "velcro" will gunk up and there won't be enough surface area to keep it "sticky" and closed. As it is I have to really crank the strap over to fasten it. Otherwise the fit is good. I know it's a road shoe, but they could have added a bit of rubber cleating on the sole to get some walkability. Shimano says these were redesigned to have a wider toe box. I can only imagine what the previous design was like. I have a fairly standard-width foot (Bannock device measures me between a C and B width) and these things feel like ballerina slippers. To be fair, all manufacturers of cycling shoes seem to think that's how cycling shoes should fit. I don't get it. Narrow shoes can lead to all kinds of cycling injuries. Specifically metatarsalgia which is common among cyclists (I've had it, it sucks). I tried swapping out the insole for my other cycling shoes, on which I installed a metatarsal pad. But they're still too crammed. It's not just the width, either. They have a low volume toe box which causes cramming of the metatarsals. Even though they're listed as "Volume+". So I guess these do have a slightly wider toebox than other cycling shoes. But that's not really saying much. I got these on sale for a very good price, so I'm really disappointed that they have to go back. Shimano makes a wide version of them but REI doesn't carry them and they'd probably be too wide in the heel and mid foot anyway. It's really too bad because they check all the other boxes for design. They would be a perfect trail shoe if they had a better fit. I might look elsewhere for the wide version of them. I really want them to fit! Length seems true to size. I'm a 10.5/11 and the 45's fit well (in length) with thin cycling socks. I also tried the 46 and they were too big.Stinky
There’s one big flaw with this shoe: the top buckle strap stretches and loosens with use. I found that I have to stop every 20 min or so to retighten the strap. Very frustrating. Also, after only 3 months of use the strap has permanently stretched and even when I tighten the buckle all the way it still feels loose. Given the price point, I expected more from Shimano. They need to fix this because it’s a great shoe otherwise.Michael D
This is prob the best enduro/ all mountain shoe I’ve found. They do have there faults but they’ve held up a lot longer than any other shoe I’ve put to the test mavic/giro/ etc… I seem to always have an issue with the rubber on the bottom of the soul on both sides of the clip plate. It always seems to rip straight up from the shoe on both sides. This is not from riding. This happens from walking/climbing the bike up really steep climbs that I can’t pedal up. They do grip nice but not as nice as a xc shoe. They aren’t as light as a xc shoe but they do give you a lot more protection. I haven’t broken any toes yet in this shoe but I have broken toes with light xc shoes with very little protection. This shoe feels very comfortable and I would buy again. I keep having to Loctite my shoes souls to keep them from ripping off which, does seem to extend the love a little. But I’ll deal with it until these go on sale. I don’t feel like a 200$ shoe soul built for mountainbiking should have to be shoe goo’d or loctite’d to be able to keep using. It would be nice to be able to wear out a brass cleat before the shoe wears out….but they really don’t make things like they use to and 90% of everything made anymore is garbage so it is what it is…Matthew

I've not really got any issues with the fit or the look and they're not uncomfortable, but my god they're noisy. On a climb all I can hear are my shoes squeaking. I'm now looking back at my older shoes wondering why they didn't squeak and it's down to materials. The uppers are entirely made of plastic, the outer, the tongue and the lacing system and they rub and squeak. I've reverted to an older pair of Empires as they're driving me mad. I have been wearing Nike cycling apparel since w-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-y before the Lance Armstrong debacle. In fact, I am still trying to find Nike cycling shorts, jerseys and shoes as the old stuff is really starting to show its age. That being said, I ordered the SuperRep indoor shoes on a flyer…they were on sale…in the hopes they would work outdoors. Much to my surprise, THEY DID! I gave them their first trial over seven vacation days in 100 degree Buckeye, Arizona heat and they performed beautifully. The soles aren't as stiff as normal outdoor cycling shoes would be but they are comfortable, lightweight and very breathable. I won't hesitate to use them on any warm-weather outdoor ride. Also, I do plan to buy another pair…as soon as they go on sale again. One last thing: Nike…PLEASE get back into the cycling apparel/footwear market again…your stuff was the best!Jeff
I bought these because I hate how stiff and uncomfortable the Peloton cycling shoes were. They work perfectly with my bike with delta cleats which you can find on amazon for a better price than the Peloton ones. These do run a bit small so make sure to size up at least a half a size. My fiancé had to size up a full size on hers. Would've given these 5 stars but they seem to be prone to yellowing very quickly around certain areas of the shoe (specifically the white color way). I had to return a few pairs because when they arrived they were already begging to turn yellow whenever they had arrived.W

Also, they will get wet if the road is wet. If the conditions are dry (the only times I ride), then they'll be great. The size is pretty true. I wear an 11.5 and that's what fits bets. After using the RC701 White for a couple of years which were fantastic and comfortable I thought I would upgrade to the RC702, assuming the fit would be the same I ordered the same size. When they arrived they do look a little cheap and definitely look narrow, Though I would give them a try on the turbo and after 20 Minutes my feet were going numb and had to completely undo the Boa, will have to return and stick with the RC701Wolfman5236

These shoes are fantastic! The price is great and I had a small issue with attaching the cleats, I called the customer service and they walked me through it thoroughly. I've had a few crashes and while my expensive pedals got all scratched up, these shoes don't have a mark on them! Gavin might not be a "brand name" like shimano or mavic, but these shoes have lasted longer than "brand name" equipment that I've had. These are definitely worth buying.

Bought a pair in 2011, almost time to buy another set. Good shoes, they served me well. I would only suggest a couple changes: 1. shorten the straps – when I got them secured, there was a lot of extra strap hanging down 2. better glue – mine started to separate the top from the sole at the ball of the foot after a year (I should add that I used them indoor & out, 6 days per week for that year)

Comfortable and secure. Plenty of room in the toe box. My first experience with the BOA dial. I find it easy to get the right tension, and I like the quick release. Easy to get on/off and adjust quickly, which I like as a casual tri-athlete. I find the toe strap essentially useless because its stiff, so its hard to make any meaningful adjustment in either direction. I understand now why reviewers of higher $$ shoes prefer double dials. But I'm happy with my purchase. On a side note, I had a terrible experience with delivery so I don't recommend any purchase from REI that will be shipped by OnTrac.MarcInWA
a decent enough shoe, overall seems well made, just not so well designed. The top strap is ridiculously short, I'm worried that by season's end the "velcro" will gunk up and there won't be enough surface area to keep it "sticky" and closed. As it is I have to really crank the strap over to fasten it. Otherwise the fit is good. I know it's a road shoe, but they could have added a bit of rubber cleating on the sole to get some walkability. First and foremost, extremely quick shipping! I placed my order two days ago and already have my shoes. With that said, I cannot comment on the comfort level of this shoe while riding or the durability. HOWEVER, I wanted to give a sizing update because I am so very thankful that I read reviews in advance (they saved me the hassle of a return/exchange process) and heeded prior buyers' advice. I am a generally a 7.5 in most shoes including running/sneakers. This held true with older Nikes. Somewhere within the last five or so years, Nike sneakers have started running small. My present Nikes are a size 8. I ordered an 8.5 in these shoes and they fit perfectly. BOTTOMLINE: you need to add a half size to your current size in Nike sneakers or a FULL size to your normal size. I will add the caveat that my feet are on the wider side and that I am a "7.5" that would fall closer to an 8 than a 7. In the event the opposite holds true, maybe you can get away with only a half size increase.Laura
Like other reviews, you definitely need to size up. I'd recommend a half to full size bigger than what you typically wear in a Nike or a full size/size and a half from your typical shoe size. My old nike running shoes were a 7.5, but my normal shoe size is a 6.5. I ordered a 6.5 and I'm surprised my toe didn't pop out instantly; I exchanged for a 7.5 and could still use a little more wiggle room in the toe because the shape of the toe box is small and tight, but the size works. Otherwise, they are comfortable and a nice shoe. I got the white with leopard and have received lots of compliments! They also look super cool under a blacklight. 🙂M
So firstly, these are very stylish shoes. They are comfortable enough for a good ride, so no complaints there. The 'but', and why I took a star off, is because the sizing is very strange. I read reviews and ordered a shoe size up based on what others had to say. However even a size up they were WAY too small. So I exchanged them for a second size up (so now I'm two sizes above my regular 'street' shoes) and they fit perfectly. Now I know that sizing for cycle shoes can be wonky, but I compared the size 10 to my old cycling shoes and they were the same physical size despite being one being a 9 and one a 10. And a friend of mine also bought these cycling shoes but only had to size up one shoe. For reference my feet are narrow and pretty normal when I buy literally any other shoe. I bought these because I have a new spin bike and I needed something that fit better than my years old mountain bike shoes. These are much more like regular running shoes, nice and roomy, but attach to the pedals for more efficiency when doing spin workouts. These are my first clipless shoes and they’re very comfortable. The recessed part where the cleat is almost seems to guide the cleat to the clip. The sizing chart is a bit confusing, though. Based on my foot length, it was suggesting I should have ordered the equivalent of a US size 8.5 but, based on my shoe size, it suggested a 10.5 so I went with the bigger size and they fit great.i_like_my_bike
I've been wearing these cycling shoes to Spin class 2-3 times a week for over 6 months now. I am able to put them on at home and walk to class with no issues (that was the goal , to not have to change my shoes when I arrived and left the studio) They are really comfortable and still look brand new! I was worried I got them a half size too small the first week I wore them, they were quite tight in the toe bed. I spoke to my spin instructor about it, asked her advice on if I should return them and she encouraged me to keep them sicne they would definitely stretch. After the second week they were stretched enough to fit perfectly. I'm now really glad that I didn't go that half size up, because they would have ended up too big for sure!MBE
