20 Best Robot For Cleaning Hardwood Floors (Jan 2023 Update)

Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to try several robot vacuums, but nothing has come close to the ECOVACS Robotics DEEBOT X1 OMNI Robot Vacuum & Mop. This unit offers so many features and outperforms all previous units and it also includes a mop feature! What’s in the box: – DEEBOT X1 OMNI vacuum and mop robot – OMNI auto-emptying and auto-cleaning station – Extra dust bag – Extra pair of mopping pads – Cleaning brush – User manual When it arrived the size of the box was a little surprising, I was nervous about how big this robot might be. Once unboxed, it is actually a very manageable size for our home. We have a perfect spot in our family room for the base unit which provides access to all the hardwood and tile flooring on the main level. Setup: There are extensive instructions included (user manual) that are easy to follow and made the initial setup a breeze. Ecovacs has done an amazing job of simplifying the setup process for the non-technical user. Both the Deebot (vacuum) and the Omni station (base – instructions attached) require setup. The base needs to be plugged in and the clean water tank filled. The DEEBOT should be fully charged before initial use. The side brushes and mop pads can be installed at this point or left off for initial mapping of the required spaces. Once the area is mapped a 2D or 3D map is available, rooms can be identified, and zones can be setup and customized as desired. There are numerous settings available based on user preferences. Cleaning: The DEEBOT X1 simply outperforms any previous robot vacuums I have owned. The unit runs quietly, and the mopping performance far exceeded my expectations. We have a small dog that keeps us on our toes in terms of cleaning the hardwood and tile flooring and it’s now a snap. We get approximately 3-4 cleanings out of a tank and the clean up between uses is very manageable. I've owned several robot vacuums and I can say nothing comes close to this Ecovacs robot. I've used it for a few days now and am completely blown away with how well this robot works and how dead simple Ecovacs made the whole process. Out of the box this thing is huge. I've had one other self emptying robot vac and the base station for the X1 dwarfs my old base station. This is largely due to the fact that this base station has two massive water tanks to fill and empty the robots on board water tank used to mop hard surfaces. The robot itself is sleek and feel sturdy and very high quality. Packed with every feature imaginable, this robot really is the most advanced smart home device I've ever used. Setting the Robot up was so simple. I followed the instructions in the app, plugged in the base station, connected to wifi and used Ecovacs built in voice assistant "He Yikko" to tell the vacuum to get started. It then made it's way around my house quickly mapping out the entire house room by room. Gone are the days where you have to wait through several full vacuum cycles to get a map of your house. Within 15 minutes the app was updated with an almost perfect map of my house, it even recognized the toilet in the bathroom. After getting the map of the house, I popped on the mop brushes and sent the vac on its way cleaning my house. There were a few things I was really surprised with. The first being how quickly it made its way around my house. It was considerably faster than my old robot and still cleaned just as well if not better. The second was the X1's ability to identify changes in the floor. When you have the mop brushes on the X1 easily identifies transitions to rugs or carpets and knows not to go there and try to mop your carpet. I was also shocked at just how well it cleaned after its first full run. The first run the X1 wandered around finding every wall and moving in what fell like no logical way. But at the end it did clean the house. But every time after that this thing moved like a well oiled machine, starting at the back of the house and moving room by room making straight lines through the whole floor. I will say my floors have not looked this good in a long time. I decided to really test out the X1 by starting it without cleaning up the shoes and toys my kids left all over the house and not opening all the doors all the way. I was again shocked to watch the X1 roam through the house, dodging socks and dolls and finding its way through a half opened door to go about its business. It really only tripped up once by sucking up a white barbie dress, which to be honest is understandable. I've learned the X1's base water tank will last about 4 cycles of mopping by about 1000 sq ft of hardwood, which seems very nice. Emptying the dirty water is quick and simple and man was it full of dirty water. I have no doubt this think is cleaning after looking at the water. It really is a start and forget kind of robot that will do everything you need it to and exceed all your expectations. But the fun doesn't stop at mopping and vacuuming. The X1 has a few other little features that just add to the fun. The first being the build in voice assistant. I wasn't expecting very much, since usually proprietary voice assistants don't work as well as Google or Alexa, but this this is pretty cool. It's faster to respond than any assistant I've used and works great for getting the X1 started and has fun little features like yelling at your X1 to come clean by your feet. There is also a built in camera and speaker on the front of the X1 that lets you use the X1 like a sentry if you want it to roam your house to keep an eye on things while you are away. It's an interesting feature and a neat little addition. I can't say I've gotten a ton of use out of it, but how cool is that my vacuum has a camera. Really the only thing I had any problems with was I wanted to put cleaning solution in the water used to mop, but Ecovacs recommends you only use it's cleaning solution. Only problem is, I can't find anywhere that the cleaning solution is sold. It's not even available on Ecovacs website, which is really strange. Overall, this thing has it all. I don't think you'll find a more advanced robot vacuum, which makes sense given this things price tag. SETUP/MAPPING It comes with the Deebot X1 Omni vacuum/mop robot with a plethora of sensors, two side brushes, a “floating” main brush, three wheels, and mop system attachment with pads. The top is magnetic which grants you access to the on/off switch and a cute little bagless bin that can hold 0.1 gallons with a reusable washable filter that empties automatically when the vacuum goes back to the station or manually if you want to go back to that peasant lifestyle. The Omni auto-emptying and auto-cleaning Station is large compared to other bases. As it houses a clean water tub, dirty water tub, a cleaning brush, an extra pair of mop pads, and a 3L disposable dust bag. The power cord is removeable and has a place to wrap it on the back for cable management. Both the vacuum and the base feel well built, solid, and high quality. Each of the tubs has thick plastic with rubber textured handles. Everything opens and closes easily. Along with sliding in and out of place smoothly. You can tell a TON of engineering went into every single aspect of this device. Replacement parts aren’t too expensive either which is good. They report an overall run time of 140 minutes. Which I found to be accurate on stock settings. But if you increase the suction power it is a lot less. If you run out of battery mid clean it will return to the dock, charge a bit, and then resume cleaning. They report it takes 6.5 hours to charge fully. Which is a long time, but they likely chose that to maximize the life of the battery. They say it has a max decibel range of 68 dB. I found on stock settings it was close to 50 – 60 dB and would imagine going to maximum suction would be between 60 – 68 dB. On the lid of the base, it gives you instructions on how to get started. Which pretty much says unbox everything and scan the QR which takes you to the Ecovacs HomeVac App which then walks you thought the rest of the process. Which is pairing your robot, connecting it to the internet, and doing the initial mapping that you can see in real time. They report that it uses True Mapping 2.0 which scans the home environment, quickly generates a map, plans the most efficient cleaning paths, and they guarantee less missed and repeated spots. Which I found to be accurate. Once the initial mapping was done, I fine-tuned it by adjusting my house walls, combining some rooms, labeled them, and made a few software barriers. Such as my stairs. It treats that barrier as a wall, and I haven’t had an issue with it. Overall setup time was about 30 – 40 minutes. VOICE CONTROLS: The Voice Control supports Alexa and Google Assistant. But also has a unique one called Yiko. Which you can access by saying “Ok, Yiko” and then a plethora of commands such as “begin cleaning”, “stop”, “return to dock”, “what are you doing”, “clean x”, “mop x”, “clean under table”, etc. You can say “I’m here” and through sound localization tech it will seek you out and clean around you. All of which worked well just like any modern age smart assistant. However, the robotic voice can be improved as it doesn’t sound very good. You can increase/decrease the volume through commands or via the app. And it will call out when it is doing something which I LOVE. Such as starting a clean, returning to the base, emptying the bag, cleaning the mop pads, etc. Which I really like. As that way you aren’t left wondering. For those of you concerned about privacy voice commands are saved on a server which you can go in and delete in the app. You can also turn it off if you’d like. OBSTACLE AVOIDANCE: It uses something called AIVI 3D which utilizes AI computing power, astrophotography-grade RGB camera, LiDAR, dToF sensor, autopilot technology, and human recognition to identify and detect obstacles while scanning the home and creating paths to clean even in the dark. They do report that it works better in well-lit environments. Which I found to be true but did just fine in the dark. With all this tech it does a spectacular job at avoiding objects. On the extremely rare occurrence it did suck something up it shouldn’t have it would automatically turn off the brush, lift itself up, and try to vroom off. This worked every time without intervention. There are two protective bumpers on the front, and I found it rarely bumped into anything to activate them. Even when it did it was very mild making me unconcerned about damage to the vacuum or the thing it was being rude to. It never ran into me or my dog. When it detects an object (shoes, dog toys, clothes, cords, socks, etc.) it will clean around them with a minimal barrier (maybe an inch/inch and a half) and gets even closer around tables, chairs, or walls (maybe an inch or less). It never got stuck anywhere. During the initial mapping it shimmed itself into a small crevice under a bed that was barely big enough for it to fit, went exploring, and came out the other side full of dust with a story of adventure. I was skeptical that a battery powered vacuum could get results similar to a regular corded vac. I was right. It picks up surface stuff fairly well but is no substitute for a real vacuum. Having said that, we do find it very useful for cleaning up pet hair. We leave it to run in a room when we are gone and the receptacle has a good amount of dist and hair in it. It keeps the carpet a little cleaner between vacuuming. The sweeping pattern is totally random and it tends to stay in one spot for a long time before moving on. When it encounters an obstacle it does an almost full turn and collides with the same object. If you leave it in one small room. block off the areas under dressers and such that it tends to get lodged under, it's handy enough. Our side sweeper brush motor burned out after four months and I read that it should be taken out and cleaned regularly. This is not mentioned in the instructions. For this much money you can buy a mid-range upright which I would recommendSteveC

Hubby and I bought our roborock in Dec 2021 from Godfreys. She has been used every 2nd day (mopping and vacuming) for almost 5 months now with no issues other than general maintenance like wiping over her sensors. We DO NOT expect this machine to function as a full on vacume, but rather just to pick up the daily debris and leaves etc that our little dogs walk into the house and to be a quick mopping once over. We aren't overly messy people and don't have kids. Things we love: – She really cleans! – You can set up lines and walls in the app so she doesn't go near stairs etc (Though she does have the stairs function where she auto-senses that its a drop off and she will vacume along it but not fall off the edge- this is extremely anxiety inducing to witness lol) – The mopping and sweeping all happens from the same machine. Saves me having to run 2 and saves me having to vacume before i manually mop if i choose to though I haven't needed to at all yet because the robot does such a great job for me. (we have hardwood floors and no kids) -I love that she auto-docks herself and takes herself home when the battery gets low so that i don't have to bother doing it and that she can run while i'm not at home. – I like that she 'talks' and tells you whats wrong if something does go wrong. – She does a great job on carpets, we have her set to high suction on carpets and lower on the hardwood and she actually collects all the dust and debris rather than pushing it around like our vacume does on the hardwoods. – I love that you can schedule it for when you're home or not home – The app is pretty user friendly and the whole thing gets up and running in no time when you buy her new. – I LOVE that she is so tiny she can get under the oven and under the bed. Places that my vacume just can't get. The overall result is a much less dusty home – I like that you can see what she's up to or where she's stuck on the app even when you're not home. – I love that she auto senses walls and furniture and doesn't knock stuff over or leave scuff marks on the walls or furniture. Things that could be better – The walls and the "no go zones" are a bit hit and miss. Especially if you move furniture and she can then get in there. – ITS LOUD on full speed/high suction. Not nearly as loud as a regular vacume of course, but its extremely annoying when shes in the same room as you lol. (Having said that- I am an extra sensitive person and have noise rreactive ptsd so I am very likely over exadurrating how annoying it is. It really doesn't bother my husband at all) -I WISH it came with the auto-empty station. Ours gets full after 2 goes around our house (we have a big house though and she does every room). I often forget to empty her and a spoken reminder when the machine runs next would be nice or for a bundle deal when buying both. -When she mops, if you have anything powdery on the floor she may leave streaks of her every pass all over your floors. But this isn't really some thing to worry excessively about, it only happened to us because hubby left jiprock residue on the floor and then she cleaned lol. – She will eat ALL cords. You have to be EXTREMELY careful with phone charging cords, power cords and especially headphones, cos she WILL suck them up and get stuck and probably break them (she ate my senheizer headphones lol) – She will try to eat your curtains if they're sheers and sit on the floor lol. -The black version which we have shows dust badly on the top of her, just needs a frequent wipe down. – The little bin that holds the rubbish is tiny and its tedious as heck to try and empty it out completely, the housing for the filter means you can't just remove the filter and tip out the rubbish, you need to stand there and manually prize it out of all the little nooks and crannies. Not overly annoying but i wish the whole end just opened and then it'd all slide out and into the bin with minimal handling too, the way it is now, you have to pinch the fluff and dust goes flying everywhere. Overall though, I really love the little thing and she's saving my back and my vacumes life. She's extremely handy and i'll definitely buy this brand again if/when we need to upgrade.Penegeau

The marketing materials indicate this robot can map multiple floors and then know which floor its on. This isn't strictly true. This only works if the robot is unable to see another floor when it maps. I have a house with split levels. The robot is able to see all the split levels because its lidar bounces from the walls so the floors are mapped. However, if you move the robot into one of the split levels, it is completely lost. It isn't an option to create another map for the split level because you can only create one map for the same area. When I contacted the company about this, they suggested using a ramp to get the robot in and out of the split level areas. Kludged to say the least plus one of my split levels is approximately 2 ft lower than the main floor and the robot is incapable of climbing a ramp at that angle. They advised that the R&D department might find a fix, but no guarantees or timeline. I am also disappointed with the running time which, in my experience, is no where near the 3 hours quoted. After trawling through other's experiences on Reddit, I discovered that keeping the mop and water tank attached causes too much drag on the carpet, meaning the robot's battery drains quickly. To clean just one floor of my house on one charge, I have to vacuum the carpets first, then attach the mop and water tank and clean the hard floors. Again, this is a very different experience to what I expected because the marketing materials indicate the robot can do it all in one cycle. The only reason that I've given this robot 3 stars is because it does clean well, but I paid more for this robot than competitor models because of the multi floor mapping and mop/vacuum 'in one go' options. I've been thinking about getting a robot hoover for a while now and I bought the Roborock finally! Super easy to set up – it needs to be placed in an area that has space on either side and in front of it to allow it to work effectively. Once the docking station is in place and the vacuum is on the dock it's as simple as downloading the dedicated app and following the instructions. It's simple and intuitive to set up and caused me no issues. Once you're all ready to go I suggest letting it fully charge before setting it to work. In order to get the best out of the vacuum let it do a few 'map runs' before starting cleaning. This basically means he moves about your house learning about your environment and creating a virtual map – he does this without cleaning so it's faster. After the mapping run my full downstairs was mapped out and ready to clean. A really good feature is that you can draw exclusions zones and also zones where you want extra cleaning such as a high traffic area – this has worked well for me as I excluded the area around my cat food bowls so the vacuum doesn't eat any wet cat food! If you're looking for a robot vacuum look no further – save the extra money for the Roborock and don't settle for a substandard product. I don't hoover my house anymore because this guy does it for me and does a far better job than I ever could!Michele

I got this on sale from Target after watching its price for a while. This seems to be the best combination of (relative) affordability and performance on the market from the professional review sites I looked at beforehand. Taking it home and running it, I found that it actually performs much better than my old upright vacuum with zero hassle. I have it vacuuming areas of tile, utility carpet, and medium carpet in my 1200 sqft apartment. It does an excellent job with all of these surfaces. If I have it vacuum the whole place, it does need to charge about mid-way and maybe empty a couple times in the middle, which I think is reasonable considering that we have a dog and it is picking up a bunch of hair each time. Regarding specific gripes in other reviews: yes, the emptying sound is loud (but not jet engine, more like the volume of a regular vacuum) but only lasts a few seconds. I find that it picks up dog hair pretty well. It also handles thresholds/rug edges fine at about 1cm. It bumps into things when learning, of course, but not with much force contrary to some reviews. As for the learning, it didn't take much for it to master my oddly-shaped layout between the rooms and the furniture in them. I definitely would spring for the base instead of just getting the bot. That way you can truly start it and forget about it instead of having to manually empty a few times as it putters around. Overall: 100% recommend with no regrets and I wish I had gotten one sooner.thebandageman

I bit the bullet and upgraded from a dumb robot vacuum (ecovacs N7) to this smart robot vacuum because it was on sale for $200 off MSRP. Three months later and I've been completely satisfied with the upgrade. Thanks to the mapping feature on the J7 I was able to replace 2 existing vacuums and know that my entire upstairs got cleaned. The old vacuum would get stuck in a room because it couldn't find the door and keep cleaning the same area till it ran out of power. The self emptying dust bin is a great time saver and means less maintenance each week. The sensors and programming are much better at keeping the J7 from getting stuck and having to be rescued. I'm not thrilled about sharing my floorplan and cleaning schedules with iRobot, or any company. The roombas are very expensive. Even more expensive if you have multiple floors and need daily cleaning in all areas and have to get multiple vacuums. It's brushes will leave a few little twists of felted up hair behind if you have pets, long hair, or both so it's not a pristine clean unless you have it do a deep clean every time. However, I am more than willing to deal with those negatives for all the benefits that this robot vacuum offers over my old robot vacuums. If you want to see if a robot vacuum is for you I'd suggest getting a cheap one to try with for a year or two. No robot vacuum is perfect or capable of competing with a traditional vacuum. If you can accept the compromises though and find them beneficial then I would highly recommend getting this model when it's on sale. I can't say if it's really worth it over other models at the full MSRP though.JoshuaNormal

I have several robot vacuums and I can absolutely recommend this one, it cleans well and the navigation is also really good. I'm also going to talk about something that isn't common because my situation is unique. I'm a blind person and can't read print. I use an Iphone which has a built in screen reader called Voiceover which allows a person to use the touch screen if they can't see it. Basically, it allows you to touch anywhere on the screen and hear the item that you have touched, or you can swipe a finger left and right to move through the items on the screen. To activate the item that was spoken, you double tap anywhere on the screen. Depending on how apps are designed, some applications will read better than others. The Eufy home app works really well with Voiceover. I had no problem creating an account and setting up my robot. I also have no problem sending the bot out to clean or changing its settings. The main setting I wanted to change was to set the cleaning power to the highest setting, I figure if the robot has the power, why not use it? The one thing I can't do is use the features that require you to draw on the map but that's the way it is with all robot vacuums, there is no way to speak that kind of information. I always prefer to clean my entire place so for me this is not a concern. This is a great robot vacuum and I could not be happier with it.Mike A.

Hard to argue with the price, as I got this for 90 on Home Deliveries USA they had a 60 coupon you could click. I helped my parents get a much nicer one, but I needed to save the money and knew I was sacrificing some capabilities, particularly after helping them set theirs up. This thing gets the job 80% done. No mapping capabilities so it doesn’t track its location. Pretty sure the charging base uses radio frequency communication, which the robot only reads once within about 5-7 feet. You can see it realizes it’s finally near it, and then it tries to line itself up. Vacuum power is a little weak and misses items such as cat litter on hard floors pretty easily. Without a roller brush, the vacuum is going to miss things here and there. It’s also very basic programming, and will struggle to get back to its base. It will even knock it’s own base around during cleaning and sometimes make it impossible to get back to its base, so you’ll want to adhere it to the floor. I have a U shaped apartment, and if it ever ends its cleaning cycle in the opposite side of the U, it has a long journey of bumps and confusion trying to find its way back to the charging base on the opposite side of the U. I also had to buy furniture risers rubber pads because if it could just barely fit under something, it would turn itself off. The power button is easy to press under furniture and then you have to find the bugger just sleeping under your couch, so add some adhesive bumpers around the power button, and that’s resolved. Although I was concerned it wasn’t doing much at all at first, I found during cleaning that it has a substantial amount of mess inside it’s tank, and cleaning the filters was fairly easy. Plus, when I get tired of it bumping around endlessly trying to find its base, which it eventually does most times, you can use the app as a remote controller, which is a critical feature in my opinion. If I want to ensure my bedroom is hit, I can drive it there first and then let.Matt

I have children and a cat and also hardwood floors throughout the main living area. I run the vacuum daily and the mop twice weekly on a schedule I set via the app. Additional runs of both are made when necessary. A daily schedule significantly cuts down on allergies for my household. The app was easy to download, set up and customize to my personal needs. The vacuum created a map on its first run and the mop did after two runs. I was able to divide out areas and label them so I can have the vacuum or the mop clean certain rooms, if desired. The mop also allows you to create smaller 'Keep Out' and 'Clean" zones, which will allow you to keep out of specific areas or do a heavier cleaning in an area. My vacuum is not showing these options and I would really like to see this feature, as my vacuum tends to get stuck on our boot tray. Upgrading from a manual empty bin to the self empty dust is a major plus for my busy family. We were emptying the bin every 1 to 2 runs, spewing dust all over as we emptied it into the trash and now it goes weeks before it will need a new bag. The mop needs to be refilled every 1 to 2 runs and I replace and clean the pad between each run. Overall, I am extremely pleased with how easy this was to personalize to suit my needs. I can use the app to run additional cleanings whether I am home or away which is very convenient. I can clean specific areas by either map or Alexa (you can also use Google/Siri). My cat likes to spend time with the mop and vacuum so enabling the child lock ensures she won't accidentally turn on one of the devices. As far as cleaning, the robot picks up a LOT of dirt and dust every single day, despite the floors not appearing dirty, which was an eye opener when compared to our previous vacuum. I ran the mop every day the first week and now have it set to twice weekly and it also picks up a lot of residue with each cleaning. You can personalize the mop to use 3 levels of cleaning solution and 3 levels of overlap (less, normal, more). There are a few things worth mentioning. The self empty cycle on the vacuum runs at the end of the cleaning. It is loud. Very loud. I was not prepared for this and it happened the first time during naptime. I have scheduled my cleanings to avoid this happening again. There is also a Do Not Disturb function that you can set in the app for the devices. Also worth mentioning is that the mop takes a long time to clean. I run about 400-450 sf on the mop and it takes 2 to 3 hours on the normal overlap, less solution setting. The mop doesn't take the same path each cleaning and sometimes runs with the hardwood and sometimes against and we have one area that it tends to show the wheel marks when it runs against. The mop also can not go over all thresholds and is limited in height. Ours can not cross into the one bathroom or laundry room due to the hardwood threshold. None of these are deal breakers for my family, but they may be for others. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this set. The combination of the vacuum and mop has my house looking clean and refreshed and has significantly cut down on our allergies. The vacuum handles cat hair, dust and dander much better than anticipated and the mop tackles the dirt and grime that comes with everyday life. I highly recommend this set to anyone with pets, kids and/or allergies, or for others simply looking for a combination of vacuum and mop that provide a deeper clean with the ability to personalize.Elthin12

I've been a Roomba user for about 15 years now and was excited to try this new WiFi connected version. Package allows you to take care of vaccuuming and mopping the floors, however software integration between two robots could have been a little better. For example – the only way to mop after the vacuum is to let Brava (mopping robot) start after Roomba (vacuum) finishes, there is no way to have them go room-by-room right after each other. Both robots do reference their own map and don't share (or don't seem to share) your house map between each other as each robot has to learn the surroundings by itself. Individually robots are doing a pretty good job though! Roomba (the vacuum) – seems to have a few troubles with a real thick carpet I have in the dining room (see photos) even with the majority of chairs removed – it tends to stop at the edge of the carpet and declare a "cliff" emergency asking for help. After manually moving the robot – it does not seem to learn the lesson and goes for the "cliff" again and again. There does not seem to be a way to block off the area of a thick carpet in the app. It does take Roomba about 6 (!!!) hours to vacuum roughly 1000 sq ft of hardwood and carpet are of my first floor so it takes multiple "naps" at the charging station. Cleaning quality is pretty good though and there is almost no mess to deal with – just replace the paper waste bag at the charging station when it gets full. Roomba does seem to bump a lot into walls and furniture though, I would probably opt for a higher model of Roomba equipped with synthetic vision and object recognition (like charging cords or pet waste). Brava (the mopping robot) – machine has an on-board tank for the cleaning liquid (Bona is what is recommended) and a spray nozzle up front. It would spray the cleaner first and then wipe it out with a microfiber cleaning pad that is attached underneath the machine. It only has 2 wheels so 3rd point of contact is the mopping pad itself. While it's doing a great job on the hardwood floor – it is having a horrible time at the transitions between hardwood and tile (Kitchen area) and hardwood and tile just under the fireplace. While flooring surfaces are level – they do have a small transition which throws Brava sensors off. It either can't climb over a transition or is attempting it at 45 degree angle – goes about half way over but suddenly gets "scared" and reverses rapidly. That results in it unable to get back to it's charging station unfortunately and giving up on a job. I really hope it's just a software update fix as I really like the Brava. Overall – it's a great power couple – but I would probably upgrade to a higher model if your home "terrain" is not easy to navigate thru.xKing

## Setup There is a lot of packaging to go through, breakdown, and put into the recycling bin, but at least you know that everything is protected well. Once you have all the pieces out of the box, you’ll find a quick start card to help you set up the charging base and wake up your robot. You’ll then head to the iRobot app to finish setting up your robots and connect them to WiFi. You may need to let it charge for a while (and apply any needed updates), but after 30 minutes or so, your robot should be ready to clean. ## Performance ### Roomba i3+ If you’re upgrading from a previous Roomba (or other robotic vacuum) like I am, you may be surprised to find that the i3+ includes a “mapping” feature. You can either allow the vacuum to learn while it cleans, or you can send it on a specific mapping-only quest where it doesn’t clean but instead just ping-pongs around your house, keeping track of walls and other barriers. You can then see the map inside the app and section off the rooms and name them. You’ll probably see some hilarious shaped rooms in the app as the Roomba doesn’t know furniture from a wall, but you get a general idea of what the Roomba can “see” around your home. After you name the rooms, you can use the app to have Roomba clean only a certain room, which is handy if, for example, there is some dry cereal spilled in the kitchen and you don’t want the Roomba to clean the whole house just to get to the cereal. The Roomba i3+ seems to have some upgraded rollers and suction power as I notice it picking up more dirt than my previous Roomba. One of my favorite features in the self-emptying dust bin! When the Roomba returns to its base it (loudly) transfers the dirt from the robot into a bag inside of the base. So the Roomba can perform multiple cleaning jobs before the dust bin needs emptying. I rarely used Alexa with my previous Roomba because while I was bent over emptying the dust bin, it was just easier to hit the “Clean” button while I’m down there. However, now that this Roomba empties itself, I might use the Alexa integration more often! I rarely run the Roomba while I’m away from home as I like to be within earshot in case it gets tangled on a cord I forgot to pick up. However, I like that the app notifies you with a push notification if there is a problem. I also like that with the app, you can set the floors to automatically be mopped after you vacuum. It’s like the two robots are BFFs! ### Braava jet m6 Before cleaning, you’ll need to attach a cleaning pad to the bottom of the Roomba (either one of the included single-use pads, or the multi-use microfiber pad) and fill the inside tank with a mixture of the cleaning solution and water. This is my first mopping robot and it is quite interesting to watch it work. It will move forward in a straight line about 2 feet or so, and if there are no obstructions, it will back up, spray some liquid, and then drive the cleaning pad over it, going an extra foot or so while the cleaning pad is still wet. The Braava did a surprisingly good job maintaining the straight lines while it cleaned the floor and probably did a more thorough job mopping than I normally do. 😀 It struggled more under the table and chairs, but in all fairness, I’m able to move the chairs completely out of the way to mop under the table so a human definitely has an advantage there. The Braava also does a good job of not overstaurating a certain area and uses the little bit it sprayed on the floor to cover a wide area. You can adjust this in the settings in the app to have the Braava use more or less liquid while cleaning. I set it about in the middle and was pleased with how well it cleaned. I can even walk in the area it cleaned after about 10 minutes without getting my socks overly wet. The Braava has a very low clearance and does not go onto carpeted areas or even the mats under the doors. This also prevents it from spraying cleaning solution down the furnace grate on the floor which I appreciate! I’m also happy I did not have to buy additional virtual barriers that I would have to move between vacuuming and mopping. When it is done, you can throw the multi-use pad into your washing machine or hand wash it so it is ready for the next cleaning mission. ## Summary This combo pack of the Roomba i3+ and Braava jet m6 is a great tag team system for keeping your floors clean! I appreciate the mapping features and the fact that you can set the robots to work in tandem with the Roomba vacuuming first, then automatically handing it off to the Braava to mop. The self-emptying dust bin is also an appreciated upgrade for keeping the Roomba ready to clean at any time.TechnicallyWell

My ex-roommates used to have a eufy 35C robot vacuum, and I must say it kept a very neat apartment for us in the context that my roommates had two long hair cats. Lately, I moved to a bigger townhouse and got a cute British shorthair of my own finally. To make my life easier, I firstly bought a Roborock S6 pure because it had a decent discount. However, it didn't work so well on cleaning the hair as I expected. Moreover, it gets stuck by the circular bases of my floor lamp and bars stools all the time, which is quite annoying. Meanwhile, I found Eufy just released a new robot vacuum and I was thinking how about give it a try since the Roborock is still within the duration of free return. It turns out to be a very wise decision. The new Eufy X8 hybrid can have an almost full dustbin even though the floor was just cleaned by Roborock, which is very impressive. In addition, this guy got a smooth move and has good obstacle avoidance ability. Even my friend (who is still a student driver) admits her turning skill is not as good as the robot. Also, the complex terrain is not a problem anymore. It can get over those round bases very easily. It does have a bit louder noise (due to its dual turbines I suppose) and is pricier than Roborock S6 pure though, I think it perfectly fits my needs as a vacuum robot helper and a good friend of my kitty. All in all, I give 5 stars for this purchase and will recommend it to all my pets' parents friends.Luke

There is much to like about this vacuum, including its map-building and no-go zones, as well as how much it sucks (hehe, never heard that one before I bet). You can adjust the suction power and intelligence in the app. It's quite a bit louder when you put it on max or do a spot clean. All that said, for my apartment, the mop function just feels useless. The mop is always in contact with the floor, with no retraction or shielding mechanism. Combine that with the fact that the base station only makes sense to place in a carpeted area in my apartment, and if I place the vacuum manually, it has to position itself, which can involve going up on the carpet, and the end result is that I have to manually intervene quite a bit to ensure it doesn't sully the carpet with the mop. That's even with the no-go zones since it doesn't seem to know where to go or not go until it positions itself. And of course we're doing all this work for what amounts to a rag attached to the bottom of the vacuum to be dragged around. Given how involved it all is, and how small of an area I have to mop, I'd rather just wipe up manually as spills happen. But I still give the device 4-5 stars across its categories because I didn't buy it for the mop. I figured that part wouldn't be of much use to me. I bought this because the discounts currently being offered actually made the X8 Hybrid cheaper than the plain X8. Anyway, good little vacuum overall!Dibbs

Let me tell you how great this little guy (or girl) is. In the year 2018, I decided to get my self a furry companion. I wont bore with the details on how I named her but her name is Rona. Little did I know, Rona was going to be the dog equivalent of a hurricane except instead of rain and wind, shes a fur and farts. Also, little did I know, there was going to be a world pandemic 2 years later that would take her nickname "Rona season" to a whole new level. But let me tell you, my dog dogs fur could go toe-to-toe with covid on who spreads faster. At this point I may have lost you, but every great story has a detailed set up. With our move into a new home that is immensely larger than our previous studio in the city, we knew we could not keep up with cleaning. In comes Victor, our new iRobot i7 vacuum. After a short issue connecting to our wifi (my fault, not victors), we got this little guy (possibly girl) up and rolling. With in a day, victor new our new floor plan faster than I could mow the front lawn (its really small #colorado). Speaking of colorado, victor has no issue with high altitude contrary to unpopular belief. All in all, victor has saved us from the pain of vacuuming. I set victor up to run in the morning and evening and he (could be a she) is looking skinnier than even. I find my self watching victor vacuum like my old neighbor used to watch me vacuum. Except he was outside looking in. Highly recommend the purchase. You wont regret it.Kyle

Great vacuuming assistant – 4.5 stars in our opinion. Have had it now 4 months. Background: mostly one level house with laminate and tile floors, couple of throw rugs. Dining room has table with 6 chairs. Kitchen counter has 3 pedestal stools. When we down sized to this house kept minimal furniture. One border Collie. Roughly 2500 sq ft that we want robot to maintain (excludes stairs and room over garage). Here's our experience: to best use the robot, let it map your house. Then divide house into rooms. Rather than let the robot clean the entire house , clean by specific jobs that include 3-4 rooms so the robot can complete it without having to stop and recharge. To get the best clean in the quickest time, move portable items into rooms not on the cleaning job list. For example, we move the six dining room chairs to the sunroom. This cuts the cleaning time by about 1/3 as the robot can vacuum straight lines, rather than try to work its way around multiple chair legs. It also ensures that the robot can get under the table completely. We do a similar thing with the sunroom's high top stools. For the pedestal stools in kitchen, we pull them out so the robot can make a pass without trouble under the counter. The robot will climb the smooth base to clean them. For us with the dog, a bag fills in about a month. The robot can't get onto the fireplace hearth or go over the triple sliding glass door track that leads to the sunroom. Nor will it do behind open doors that are flush to walls. So you still need a broom or handheld wand. Buy on sale!2oldtohear

I got this on sale from Target after watching its price for a while. This seems to be the best combination of (relative) affordability and performance on the market from the professional review sites I looked at beforehand. Taking it home and running it, I found that it actually performs much better than my old upright vacuum with zero hassle. I have it vacuuming areas of tile, utility carpet, and medium carpet in my 1200 sqft apartment. It does an excellent job with all of these surfaces. If I have it vacuum the whole place, it does need to charge about mid-way and maybe empty a couple times in the middle, which I think is reasonable considering that we have a dog and it is picking up a bunch of hair each time. Regarding specific gripes in other reviews: yes, the emptying sound is loud (but not jet engine, more like the volume of a regular vacuum) but only lasts a few seconds. I find that it picks up dog hair pretty well. It also handles thresholds/rug edges fine at about 1cm. It bumps into things when learning, of course, but not with much force contrary to some reviews. As for the learning, it didn't take much for it to master my oddly-shaped layout between the rooms and the furniture in them. I definitely would spring for the base instead of just getting the bot. That way you can truly start it and forget about it instead of having to manually empty a few times as it putters around. Overall: 100% recommend with no regrets and I wish I had gotten one sooner.thebandageman

I bit the bullet and upgraded from a dumb robot vacuum (ecovacs N7) to this smart robot vacuum because it was on sale for $200 off MSRP. Three months later and I've been completely satisfied with the upgrade. Thanks to the mapping feature on the J7 I was able to replace 2 existing vacuums and know that my entire upstairs got cleaned. The old vacuum would get stuck in a room because it couldn't find the door and keep cleaning the same area till it ran out of power. The self emptying dust bin is a great time saver and means less maintenance each week. The sensors and programming are much better at keeping the J7 from getting stuck and having to be rescued. I'm not thrilled about sharing my floorplan and cleaning schedules with iRobot, or any company. The roombas are very expensive. Even more expensive if you have multiple floors and need daily cleaning in all areas and have to get multiple vacuums. It's brushes will leave a few little twists of felted up hair behind if you have pets, long hair, or both so it's not a pristine clean unless you have it do a deep clean every time. However, I am more than willing to deal with those negatives for all the benefits that this robot vacuum offers over my old robot vacuums. If you want to see if a robot vacuum is for you I'd suggest getting a cheap one to try with for a year or two. No robot vacuum is perfect or capable of competing with a traditional vacuum. If you can accept the compromises though and find them beneficial then I would highly recommend getting this model when it's on sale. I can't say if it's really worth it over other models at the full MSRP though.JoshuaNormal

You can override any of these settings, adjust room dividers, define no-go zones, zones only for vacuuming or mopping exclusively, and more. The app will attempt to try and detect what types of obstacles exist in the room, and you can additionally place some generic furniture items on the map to better match your environment. Once you have your rooms setup, you can create different schedules based on specific rooms or have it clean the whole house. You also currently have the ability to create specific zones within rooms to go manually “spot” clean a zone if needed. You also have the ability to tie in voice control and request cleaning of specific rooms or the whole house.  I don’t need to move my mats off the floor in the kitchen or the bathroom, pick my shoes up off the floor if I don’t want to or that shirt sitting over in the corner, I don’t have to worry it’s going to get stuck under at the bed because it does a great job navigating whatever it is under the bed and not only does it do a great job it identifies by taking a picture of whatever item is under there, and with a percentage of certainty it can assess what that item is not always great by does a pretty darn good job. It is by far, as other reviewers have noted, leaps and bounds …. ARTEMIS SIZE… GALACTICLY SUPERIOR to ANY other vacuum. And then, to add an amazing mop that is utilized simultaneously with the vacuuming feature, and the ability to customize from a light mop job to a extra duty session— YESSSSS nailed it in execution, nailed it in design, and nailed it in understanding the deficiencies of the current technologies on the market, and then bring the technology market 🙂 Summarized, and in general, I have been pretty darn critical of most of them tech purchases in the past 10 years because of shifty retailers, manufactures, ad campaigns, all implying, amazing features and benefits that blend into a disappointment and waste. If not a complete failure. It’s usually what is implied by the manufacture, but not stated that leaves disappointment in execution. And then, of course, there are the glaring issues, confronting consumers in the marketplace by way of the retailers, not Best Buy that don’t care about the customer enough to mandate that pro product descriptions are actually in English enough to understand but to me that basically means that a manufacture doesn’t really care about the American consumer at all because if they did, they would find somebody who speaks English enough to write a manual for whatever product and to write print and advertise that product in a way that respects the customer and doesn’t make them have to read between the lines or reword, poor grammatical errors, because of a lack of regard that upsets me more than anything so I’m very glad to have retailers that are still around like Best Buy where I know specifications for a product are going to be the specs for the product. Anyway, the bottom line is, this is a win. I’m pleased, and I have not been pleased in the product and I can say this pretty certainly in a very, very long time, so great job, Robo rock. You know this industry segment is still very young when the best robot vacuum by far which is this S7 MaxV Ultra has quite a few areas to improve on but all in all. I LOVE IT! This is advanced AI coupled with top level engineering at its finest for robot vacuum cleaners. At this point, Roborock is Roborock's biggest competitor – however, there's def room for improvement. Below is everything the bot does really well that are selling points. For the "Needs to improve" I'll indicate whether these are software fixes or hardware changes which means you'd have to wait for the next version and hope the changes are built in as part of the bots physical hardware component. Best Features – Intuitive UI & navigation software packed with useful features (3D map, 2 way calling, etc) – Ability to auto fill bot with water, auto empty dustbin and wash mop – Great battery life (my experience) – On board video camera to see where bot is cleaning – Carpet detection feature with mop auto lift – AI obstacle recognition, avoidance & tagging – Room recognition with machine learning capabilities. – Various cleaning configuration settings Needs to improve – Show water levels in app (hardware fix) – Increased suction doesn't do much for carpets. Still misses threads and small particles from time to time. This robot mop is amazing. It has a light weight than I expected. Charging time spent little, well explained instruction manual made my life easy to mop the floors. Besides its function, I have to mention its design too. I bought black colored one, it looks cool! And the price is also reasonable. Have purchased two of these and returned them both. As a vacuum it works great, as a mop, it is terrible. In principle this should work better than competing products as none of them vacuum up the dirty water. Unfortunately, neither does this one. You will end up with water soaked floors as it disperses 6 cups of water and only vacuums up 1/4 cup. iLife customer service told me to return them. This is apparently an ongoing issue.Jeff

Stopped working after less than a year and it wasn’t even used often. The robot is always getting lost and now it doesn’t even connect anymore. The app is awful as well. It’s glitchy and hard to navigate. The customer service support also sucks because you have to wait a while for them to reply and their English is not good. Ever since we got the vacuum it would randomly make a loud suction noise at 3 am so we can’t leave it plugged in either. You also can’t set more than 3 maps. If you wanna clean upstairs, downstairs, and the basement, you can’t. You’re forced to overwrite one of your other maps. The suction power of the vacuum isn’t even that good because my rugs are always left looking dirty after the vacuum passes over it multiple times. The brush is also always getting stuck with hair so you might as well just sweep the house yourself instead of digging out tangled hair. The vacuum also gives false reports of its dust detector being blocked.guest

The new ECOVAC DEEBOT OZMO N8+ is everything a typical homeowner should need in an automated vacuum and mop built into one machine. After removing everything from the box, registering and logging into an ECOVACS account via their smartphone application, completing the simple set up and charging the vacuum on the base, the DEEBOT was ready to start mapping the area in preparation of its first clean job. I found the mapping and navigation to be one of the most impressive features of the DEEBOT N8+ in comparison to the previous robot vacuums I have used. While using the ECOVACS app, I could see the DEEBOT was mapping out our kitchen and living room space over 30 feet away. We have a fairly large area to cover on our downstairs where the DEEBOT is located, about 1500 square feet, which includes multiple turns, table and chair legs and high-density rugs to map and navigate while cleaning. After the initial mapping, which took about an hour, the DEEBOT had to dock to charge again before starting its first cleaning job. While it was charging, I linked the ECOVACS account with my Amazon Alexa account to use voice control on the vacuum which is much more convenient than accessing the app on my phone. During its initial clean, I immediately noticed many of the upgrades and differences compared to my previous robot vacuum. For starters, the DEEBOT is much quieter than my last vacuum, even on a higher suction setting, and still had as good, or better, suction power. Also, because of the enhanced navigation and mapping technology, the DEEBOT hugged corners around my walls and furniture like a sports car on the inside corner of a road race… perhaps not as fast. Speaking of speed, the DEEBOT cleaned at a reasonable pace, not too fast and not too slow in my opinion, to ensure a thorough cleaning. Our entire downstairs is waterproof laminate, except for a couple large dense area rugs, therefore I have opted to keep the reusable mopping pad installed most of the time before use and ensuring it is rinsed off after use. The only issue I found with having longer thread rugs is the DEEBOT thinks they are an obstacle instead of a rug therefore will not traverse from the laminate to the rug for cleaning and sometimes gets stuck during the attempting transition when the mopping pad is not installed. The two fan sweeping brushes sweep on each side push debris on the sides towards the middle of the vacuum. The microfiber mop attachment does a great job cleaning using just water in the tank and no solution to worry about and is easy to remove and fill. There is also an option to use disposable mop pads instead of the included reusable microfiber pad; the package I have came with 10 disposable microfiber pads. Using the smartphone app, I could view an overview of the area the DEEBOT mapped, where it has already cleaned, the square footage of the area cleaning while in progress, the time the DEEBOT has been cleaning, battery life, cleaning preferences and much more customization option including the ability to add a virtual boundary. The app also allowed me to automatically clean on a schedule which was convenient to set and forget. The mopping function built into the vacuum is one of my other favorite features and allowed me to consolidate both a robot vacuum and robot mop into one device. After cleaning, the DEEBOT automatically returns to the base and empties the debris it collected into a disposable bag located in the base; the package I have included two disposable bags. The debris emptying process is much louder than the actual cleaning, but only take a few seconds to complete. I have used the DEEBOT about ten times and the disposable bag is not even a quarter full. The battery lasted well over an hour on one charge and using a higher vacuum speed setting. I have kept the DEEBOT on a regular cleaning schedule and my floors have remained clean without putting thought into it. In my opinion and comparing my experiences with some well-known previous model robot vacuums, the ECOVACS DEEBOT N8+ is easily the best robot vacuum I have had. It has everything you would need built into one machine and would recommend it to anyone in the market for a robot vacuum that does it all. Now I just need to convince the wifey to get one more for our upstairs.Grouticus

PROs – Effective vacuuming and mopping – Self-emptying station – Great app experience with tons of customization – Amazon Alexa/Google Assistant integration CONs – Long pet hair and larger debris may clog self-emptying channel SUMMARY Ecovac’s higher end Deebot robot vacuum cleans have long been a sort of swiss army knife when it comes to capabilities and the new N8+ is no different. The N8+ has the dual vacuuming and mopping capability that they introduced in a previous model, along with the lidar mapping capability and extremely versatile mobile app. What’s new is the addition of a self-emptying tower which adds a new degree of autonomy and hands-off operation. DESIGN + CAPABILITY The N8+ has a typical round design. Underneath 2 circular brush heads flank a roller brush to help push dirt and debris to the middle of the robot’s path. The design and rotation speed of the circular brushes was an optimal for pushing small to large debris and not to fast to fling it wildly like I’ve experience on some robots. The main cylindrical brush has a combination of bristles and rubber flaps to help brush and scoop dirt and larger debris. With this design it does a great job picking up everything in its path, but I did have issues with pet hair getting stuck. It would be nice if they had an optional roller design optimized to prevent clogging in these cases. Like other robot vacuums it has all the other typical sensors – front bumper sensors and proximity sensors, edge sensors, and cliff sensors to keep it from going downstairs and ledges. The differentiating tech for Deebots has been their excellent 2D Lidar capability. This Lidar in combination with the built-in sensors makes for more logical (and human) planning when it comes to the path and order that your N8+ tackles rooms. In large open areas it will take overlapping back and forth passes to quickly and effectively clean the large area. When it reaches a wall it will closely hug it before turning to continue its path. After getting the largest area of the room the N8+ moves to each smaller area and starts its back and forth sweep again to clean. Towards the end of the cleaning cycle it will make a pass along the whole edge of the room to make sure it got everything. I love this logical approach to path planning and it looks a lot better on carpet than random lines! In addition to navigation, the sensors will also be able to tell what kind of surface the vacuum is on, this will allow it to apply more such on thicker carpeted surfaces and less on harder surfaces like hardwood and tile. This is used not only to tell the vacuum when to increase suction, but also when to apply cleaning solution when mopping. When the robot is operating in a mopping mode it dispense cleaning solution from the tank and uses the available pad to dry and clean dirt that has attached to your surfaces. SETUP + APP Setup was very straight forward. Unpack and attach the brushes to the bottom of the robot. Next, setup the tower with sufficient space on either side, and plug into an outlet – there is a handy wrap on the back to roll up the cable for management. Finally, download the app and make an account. Deebots have a QR code that you scan with the app, once you’ve entered your Wi-Fi password the robot will connect. Before your first cleaning session, I recommend straightening up around (robot vacuum cleaners are smart, but not perfect). If there is something that is regularly on the ground that the robot might get hooked up, I recommend picking it up for the first clean. Your Deebot is going to use the lidar sensor to generate a floorplan and I like to get one that’s as accurate as possible. Once you have a great map you add virtual walls and box areas on your floorplan map that are off-limits to the robot. Additionally, once you have a map generated you can create and label rooms to expand your N8+'s cleaning capabilities. This gives you a ton of options when it comes to cleaning. You can select a particular room to be cleaned, drag a box over an area to be cleaned, or just clean everywhere. This gives you incredible flexibility when scheduling your robot’s cleans. If you know a particular area gets dirtier than others, you can schedule special cleaning sessions specific to that room. In addition to the app, there is Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant integration so that you can tell your N8+ to start/pause/stop vacuuming or mopping, return to the dock, and more! I found this extremely useful when I was trying to multitask and did not want to have to pull out my phone or changes apps. PERFORMANCE The suction and brush array did a great job of picking up small to medium size debris (think dog kibble). The only issue I had was pet hair getting stuck in the roller and not being able to be sucked out through the self-emptying channel in the dock, requiring manual intervention. This could most likely be fixed with a different brush design, a wider channel to suck out the robot’s dust bin, and mocamdenk

The robot works really well and is easy to use. The mop is good if you want a light clean since no soap can be used. I like that the dust bin is large and holds a good amount of dust and dirt before having to dispense. I am still learning to use the Mi Home app properly so it can map my home but overall I am happy with my purchase.V

Vacuum works great but it gets stuck under the fridge and dishwasher which I dont like. It senses the stairs so that was good. Didnt mop to good and it got stuck even more mopping than it does vacuuming. The app works ok but needs improvement with features and commands should have both for vacuum and mopping.queenvq

We were so excited about this being our first robot vacuum.. unfortunately it was a horrible experience. First it gets stock on everything, dishwasher , couch, chair. Secondly, it has no radar it runs into everything and then adjusts but doesn’t remember it for future cleans. Thirdly, the mop feature doesn’t work as efficient as it makes it seem. Then after we settled with all those problems it started shorting out just 20 days after purchase. Thankfully we can still return and get another brand. Not a quality product.Connor
