20 Best Robot Vacuum For Cat Hair (Jan 2023 Update)

I purchased the J7 after I decided to retire my few years old Roborock S4 to the basement and get some newer technology. If the J7 was my first robot vacuum purchase I would probably be happy. But when compared to my previous one this has too many annoying problems. Let me start with what it does better. First, it really is a good-looking vacuum. Much nicer than the homely S4. Next, the amount of pet hair and dirt it collects is at least 30% better than the S4. So isn't that what a vacuum is supposed to do? Vacuum? Why 3 stars? Because it only finishes a cleaning job 50% of the time. Reviewing the last 30 cleaning jobs on the app, only 14 finished. There are way too many issues that require my intervention to get a finished job. It sucks up objects it is supposed to avoid, brushes get stuck with pet hair, doesn't dock properly so not charged for next job, strands itself because it didn't recognize no-go zone, etc. It is rare I need to help along the S4 except to empty the much larger dust bin or clean the washable filter (which the Roomba does not have). I wouldn't say I totally regret this purchase but given the opportunity to do it again I would go with another Roborock. BTW, as I write this review the Roomba has not cleaned in 6 days while I wasn't home. Battery was dead sitting on the charging dock.BretLee

I got this on sale from Target after watching its price for a while. This seems to be the best combination of (relative) affordability and performance on the market from the professional review sites I looked at beforehand. Taking it home and running it, I found that it actually performs much better than my old upright vacuum with zero hassle. I have it vacuuming areas of tile, utility carpet, and medium carpet in my 1200 sqft apartment. It does an excellent job with all of these surfaces. If I have it vacuum the whole place, it does need to charge about mid-way and maybe empty a couple times in the middle, which I think is reasonable considering that we have a dog and it is picking up a bunch of hair each time. Regarding specific gripes in other reviews: yes, the emptying sound is loud (but not jet engine, more like the volume of a regular vacuum) but only lasts a few seconds. I find that it picks up dog hair pretty well. It also handles thresholds/rug edges fine at about 1cm. It bumps into things when learning, of course, but not with much force contrary to some reviews. As for the learning, it didn't take much for it to master my oddly-shaped layout between the rooms and the furniture in them. I definitely would spring for the base instead of just getting the bot. That way you can truly start it and forget about it instead of having to manually empty a few times as it putters around. I bit the bullet and upgraded from a dumb robot vacuum (ecovacs N7) to this smart robot vacuum because it was on sale for $200 off MSRP. Three months later and I've been completely satisfied with the upgrade. Thanks to the mapping feature on the J7 I was able to replace 2 existing vacuums and know that my entire upstairs got cleaned. The old vacuum would get stuck in a room because it couldn't find the door and keep cleaning the same area till it ran out of power. The self emptying dust bin is a great time saver and means less maintenance each week. The sensors and programming are much better at keeping the J7 from getting stuck and having to be rescued. I'm not thrilled about sharing my floorplan and cleaning schedules with iRobot, or any company. The roombas are very expensive. Even more expensive if you have multiple floors and need daily cleaning in all areas and have to get multiple vacuums. It's brushes will leave a few little twists of felted up hair behind if you have pets, long hair, or both so it's not a pristine clean unless you have it do a deep clean every time. However, I am more than willing to deal with those negatives for all the benefits that this robot vacuum offers over my old robot vacuums. If you want to see if a robot vacuum is for you I'd suggest getting a cheap one to try with for a year or two. No robot vacuum is perfect or capable of competing with a traditional vacuum. If you can accept the compromises though and find them beneficial then I would highly recommend getting this model when it's on sale. Let me tell you how great this little guy (or girl) is. In the year 2018, I decided to get my self a furry companion. I wont bore with the details on how I named her but her name is Rona. Little did I know, Rona was going to be the dog equivalent of a hurricane except instead of rain and wind, shes a fur and farts. Also, little did I know, there was going to be a world pandemic 2 years later that would take her nickname "Rona season" to a whole new level. But let me tell you, my dog dogs fur could go toe-to-toe with covid on who spreads faster. At this point I may have lost you, but every great story has a detailed set up. With our move into a new home that is immensely larger than our previous studio in the city, we knew we could not keep up with cleaning. In comes Victor, our new iRobot i7 vacuum. After a short issue connecting to our wifi (my fault, not victors), we got this little guy (possibly girl) up and rolling. With in a day, victor new our new floor plan faster than I could mow the front lawn (its really small #colorado). Speaking of colorado, victor has no issue with high altitude contrary to unpopular belief. All in all, victor has saved us from the pain of vacuuming. I set victor up to run in the morning and evening and he (could be a she) is looking skinnier than even. I find my self watching victor vacuum like my old neighbor used to watch me vacuum. Except he was outside looking in. Highly recommend the purchase. You wont regret it.Kyle

Great vacuuming assistant – 4.5 stars in our opinion. Have had it now 4 months. Background: mostly one level house with laminate and tile floors, couple of throw rugs. Dining room has table with 6 chairs. Kitchen counter has 3 pedestal stools. When we down sized to this house kept minimal furniture. One border Collie. Roughly 2500 sq ft that we want robot to maintain (excludes stairs and room over garage). Here's our experience: to best use the robot, let it map your house. Then divide house into rooms. Rather than let the robot clean the entire house , clean by specific jobs that include 3-4 rooms so the robot can complete it without having to stop and recharge. To get the best clean in the quickest time, move portable items into rooms not on the cleaning job list. For example, we move the six dining room chairs to the sunroom. This cuts the cleaning time by about 1/3 as the robot can vacuum straight lines, rather than try to work its way around multiple chair legs. It also ensures that the robot can get under the table completely. We do a similar thing with the sunroom's high top stools. For the pedestal stools in kitchen, we pull them out so the robot can make a pass without trouble under the counter. The robot will climb the smooth base to clean them. For us with the dog, a bag fills in about a month. The robot can't get onto the fireplace hearth or go over the triple sliding glass door track that leads to the sunroom. Nor will it do behind open doors that are flush to walls. So you still need a broom or handheld wand. Buy on sale!2oldtohear

My house is a 2217 square foot house and its floors are over 75% carpet which requires good vacuuming considering there are small children and a wide layout of rooms on both floors which necessitates a robot vacuum on each floor to ensure deep cleaning on carpets to prevent the accumulation of dust and dirt. This Robot Shark IQ has a high level of absorption leaving a great job in its wake. The ground floor has a large dining room, office, bathroom, laundry room, kitchen and hallway areas that require good vacuuming and I have noticed that even with all of that, it has mapped it out super well in just 3 cycles. , and has started off in a different direction each time, obviously looking to complete the map and is doing an excellent job so far. He has had no problem returning to his "mother ship" to unload when needed and picking up where he left off. Run time on most tile and carpet floors can be approximately 90 minutes, including 1 or 2 round trips to unload. After loading, it will come back out and pick up where it left off, just as you'd expect. On the second floor there are 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and the work is repeated in the same way with an impeccable finish due to its powerful suction level… it is a great appliance that saves us time and we can program it to clean without us being at home. My 3rd Shark Robot A few years ago I bought a Shark ION RV750 robovac on eBay and was blown away by what a good job it did, so I purchased a Shark R85 on the next Prime Day, but was disappointed as it seemed it wasn't an upgrade, if anything it performed a little worse (it was slightly taller so it didn't fit under as many items of furniture), but it still did an excellent job. So moving into a tri-level home, I knew I wanted to get one more, but was torn between getting another 750 (which I knew worked well – and it's still going strong to this day!) or if I wanted to splurge and get the IQ Self-Empty. The appeal of being able to map and then determine which rooms were to be vacuumed was a big appeal as I've got two teens and their rooms aren't always robovac friendly. I also really liked the idea of not having another robovac to empty daily. We have 3 cats and a dog – along with allergies, so daily vacuuming is a must – and it's always a full bin. I considered the Roomba i7+ and i9+, but figured that I'd already had such a good experience with Shark that I'd stick with what I know works, and works well. So I decided to give the IQ a try. I'm already blown away! It's exceeded my expectations and it hasn't even completed the mapping process yet. As always, set up was a breeze. It's only ran a few times, but I can already tell a difference between it and the 750 that was previously on the top floor. I have a Shark Apex vacuum and the carpets are closer to that level of clean than the ION 750 which is astounding. Unlike my other two robovacs, it sets out and vacuums row by row with an impressive amount of precision. It does, as expected, fail to get debris in compact corners (for example the 4 inches of wall between the dresser and the doorway). It's ability to navigate around items, but then remember exactly where it left off once it has gone around, cleaned and returns to that spot, is equally impressive. The precision in which it finds the dock and loads in unlike the other two robovacs, albeit, I don't give it the suggested space around the dock (all three versions do just fine docking even with minimal surrounding open space). When it self-empties, it is loud, but not any more so than how a normal household vacuum sounded about 20 years ago, and it only lasts for about a minute, if that. I love this little robovac so much that I could see myself replacing the other two older ones with this model in the next year or so. Let me be clear, emptying the bins daily isn't bad at all. It's that the only trash wide enough to easily ensure none of the dust or debris go into the air or on the surrounding ground is the kitchen trash – and that's assuming no one's loaded up the trash to almost being full, and while most of the time, I'll go dump the bins in large trash, if I'm running out the door or in the middle of something else, I do tend to just go to the nearest trash can – which makes a small mess (although much less messy than not having the floors clean at all!).Ashlie

We’ve owned other robot vacuums and it’s very apparent the difference in quality, performance and advanced features with this Shark IQ Robot. The vacuum is very thoroughly at cleaning every nook and cranny. It can transition easily from hardware floors to rugs. There are blocking strips that are included if you don’t want it to go in certain areas such as cords or fringe materials. It does a good job of getting out of a spot that it can get stuck in. I was very impressed that it would maneuver on and off the base of our bar stools. It will get under beds, sofas and tables as long as there is clearance. I would highly recommend downloading the Shark Clean app so the robot can map your house and you can control, monitor and schedule to have it automatically start cleaning or you can turn it off and it will return back to the charging dock. So cute! The best part is the self emptying function that will empty all the debris each time it returns to the base. The only negative feedback is that it is very loud when it performs the self emptying function, but at least you know that it is working. We don’t wear shoes in the house and like to vacuum every few days to pick up any dust and dirt which is very noticeable and enjoyable. This is well worth the price.saleetah

After hearing about these small robot vacuums on the market and how well they work, I knew I wouldn't want just any model and so I forgot about them after awhile. Well, here comes Shark and with this vac mop, in my opinion, they really hit the nail on the head with this new technology. Set up was so easy. After it fully charged, I opened the SharkClean app and it walked me through the easy process of setting up my robot vac mop from connecting to my internet to mapping my home and then cleaning. The app even walks you through the process of setting up zones like carpeted areas. As the unit was mapping my home I read the entire manual and was impressed that the robot has what is called object detection technology and will navigate around obstacles. Sure enough, when it approached the four legged coffee table in my living room, it gracefully circled around each leg when it was cleaning row by row. After the first vacuuming, I emptied the dust bin and was amazed at how much it collected. To the naked eye, my home didn't look like it really needed much of a vacuuming, so this was an eye opening experience. I decided to wait and use the vac mop function on my wooden kitchen floor later in the day after dinner and it worked wonderfully. When cooking, my husband accidentally dropped a piece of flesh from a serrano chili and we purposely left it on the floor to see if the vac mop would be successful in picking it up and it was! I emptied the dust bin and found the small piece of chili among the many crumbs my boys are responsible for. Every few days, or when I remember, I gently wipe around the entire unit and it's base and find very few long hairs wrapped around the roller of the vacuum. I expected this, as I have very long hair and I know nothing is ever as perfect as it claims to be. Nonetheless, in my opinion, it's a very well made household necessity and I'm so very blessed to have it helping me around my home giving me more time to focus on my family. I named my robots Rosie, Doug and Worthington. Yes, you heard me correctly. I have three attractive and reliable vac mops for my tri-level home and I'm not the least bit ashamed. The Shark AI Robot VacMop isn’t our first robot vacuum nor robot mop, but is the first device we’ve owned that does both these operations simultaneously. I like that it is a little bit smarter than the robot vacuum we’ve been using because it supports room mapping and has laser-guided vision in addition to drop sensors and physical bumper sensors. I’ve noticed that these in combination makes it less likely to ‘bump and redirect’ than our other robots, protecting our walls and furniture from nicks and scratches and things from being knocked over. The initial setup was a mixed-bag experience. If you want to unlock all the features of the robot, you must use the accompanying smart phone app, SharkClean. This allows you to access features like scheduled cleanings, view and edit the rooms mapping, and adjusting the settings on the vacuum like eco/max suction modes. Without the app, you can still use the robot and initiate a simple cleaning cycle by pressing the 'clean' button on the unit. The main complaint I have about the app is that it requires an internet connection, and won't work if the robot and smartphone are connected to the same WiFi router without Internet access. That makes this robot impossible to use with the app if your Internet service goes down, in areas of the house without a WiFi signal, or if you don’t want the device to be online. After creating an online account and adding the robot to it, it needs to go through a couple of exploration cycles. The first maps the room and the second detects carpets and rugs for creating ‘no-go’ areas when mopping. Depending on the size and complexity of your room layout this mapping may or may not be very accurate. For example, in my home we have a fairly high transition between the dining room and the kitchen which the robot was unable to traverse. Indeed, it got stuck on the transition and was spinning its wheels for several minutes before it dislodged itself. This resulted in a map with a distorted the layout of the rooms since it continued to ‘map’ its path despite remaining in one spot. It fared much better when we physically blocked its path to areas where it could not, or we did not want it to, go. You can optionally use adhesive magnetic BotBoundary strips (sold separately) placed on your floors to create a ‘virtual wall’ that it will not cross. The robot was not able to travel our high-nap carpeted hallway, getting stuck within the first few feet and simply turning around, therefore I do not recommend it for carpeted floors. It performed best in square, enclosed rooms with few obstacles and hard flooring; the instructions are clear that you should remove objects and wires that may block its path or get stuck on prior to mapping. The map editing feature in the app was disappointingly frustrating to use to modify incorrect mappings and add missing areas, often resulting in the error ‘one of rooms will not be added to your map.’ We found it easier to simply delete the map and start the exploration cycle over; note that syncing updates to the map with the robot, including deleting the map, is surprisingly slow. Also, the robot can only store one map at a time, making it impossible to pick up and move the robot/base to another floor of the house, or even a room that’s separate from the existing map, without remapping the new area from scratch each time. Software user-friendliness aside, the actual vacuuming and mopping performance is very good, though a bit loud when running. The robot picks up a lot of dust, hair, and debris. However, the dust bin is a bit messy to empty out, oftentimes dropping a bit of its contents when detached from the main body of the robot, and fine dust clings to it readily. Though, it is completely washable in the sink under running water, including the removable dust filter tray. When mopping, coverage was about 95% efficient. Areas where we found the mop pad didn’t touch were along the perimeter of the rooms, 1 to 3 inches out from the walls and all around the dock base plate.Jrt0327

Confused, but has spirit is the best way to describe the little fellow. He's also a pain in the butt to rescue sometimes… Most times. The laser guidance and thoroughness is impressive. I have a large home with little foot traffic and it manages to sweep up a lot of dust everyday when I empty him out. It surprises me how much there is that I can't see, but it definitely makes it easier to not do it myself. He's gotten stuck a lot by accidentally closing the doors when he's in the closet or bathroom and the app is finicky with finding him. When the app does work, it reduces the 30 minute hunt… And that's if he has enough battery life to cry out for help when I ping him. It can be frustrating when he catches and drags cords or other loose or hanging items like scarves, but I would say the obstacle avoidance isn't that bad. The mopping feature is mediocre, as it just lightly mops, making me feel like I could do a better job manually. There's a lot of room for improvement, but if you chose to start with this robot for a trial period, you learn what you want over time. I bought this from best buy within a few months of being released, and boy did I learn my lesson never to buy a new design within the first year. The app would not support multiple maps for different floors. When the battery died while the vacuum got stuck overnight under a couch, it would not turn on. I reached out to help each time, and it looks like they finally released a firmware update to make that bit better. Since the first five months, it has been a dud sitting in the hallway. I reached out to support, and after going back and forth for months, they wouldn't help; I gave up. So I have a product under warranty that can't be fixed. I regret not buying third-party support. After finding online forums reporting similar issues for other neato products, I learned to stay from these. My electric car runs with zero maintenance costs, and this thing requires cleaning of sensors every time you go to the bathroom. I purchased the D8 since my BotVac was starting to get a little noisy and I felt it was time for an upgrade. I read the reviews but ignored them due to my previous experience with Neato. I should have listened to the previous reviewers. The D8 has been nothing but trouble. It gets stuck in corners; can’t navigate floor air vents without saying it’s too close to an edge; gets stuck under cabinets and stops short of its base. These are just a few of the problems we have encountered. Customer service is a joke. I have dealt with them multiple times and they don’t understand the situations. Honestly they’re reading from a prepared text of action items and have no working knowledge of their products.

What a disappointing experience. Neato used to be a great product and company. Now they are mediocre at best and oblivious to how disappointing their products and support have become. Save your money and sanity and purchase a better product. I hope they get their act together soon.Jamie Craven

Just bought this sorry excuse for a robot vacuum cleaner the other day. First run it used up half of its battery mapping one room (that’s how long it took). Climbed over carpets great and raised floor pieces between rooms. The first run was almost complete when the robot froze out of nowhere in the middle of the floor and got “lost” and didn’t know where it’s base was. It told me to return it to its base where it is supposed to save the mapping of my house…it did not! I let it charge and attempted it again. Everything was great for 5 seconds until it froze right in front of its base and was confused once again….so I reset it, reset the wifi, reset the app, reset everything I could…still gave me this issue. Finally later that night it started working properly and ran the whole house with ease, once the battery got low it announced it was going back to base…well instead of going through doorways this robot tries to make a B line for the base attempting to drive through walls to get there. I move it literally 2” away so maybe it would realize it’s being dumb, no it does a 180 and drives the opposite way still lost. It stays lost for so long it stops vacuuming and it just casually driving around the room. So in the end the robot never properly mapped my house. And to add to this, the bot constantly says something is causing its wheel to be stuck when both wheels are free. Not only does it have an e-girl voice but the spinner on the side will randomly stop working, it will circle under chairs about 10 times before it finally decides it’s clean, and it is the dumbest “intelligent” robot on earth. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME, PLEASE.Caleb Brauer

We recently bought this model for our house. I used it twice and found that it would go backwards and forwards along the same stretch of the hallway non-stop for over 20minutes and didn't from that patch of hallway. It has difficulty moving from room to room which made it pretty much useless given I needed to physically move it into each room for it to vacuum each different room. It may have been better in a slightly smaller house. I ended up exchanging it for the more expensive model which has mapping and this more expensive model is WAY better . Definitely worth spending the extra money on the model with mapping.anonymous

Absolutely love my robo vac. Makes my life so much easier. He finds his way back to his charging dock without an issue. This model doesn't have mapping features but I think he finds his way around just fine without it. The app tells you how many square metres have been cleaned and in what time. I empty it every day and use him 1-2 times daily. Loved it so much I've purchased my mum one for her birthday.anonymous

I have a dog who sheds hair if you so much as glance in his direction. My trusty Dyson does a great job, but its a bit of a pain to drag out. So I gifted myself this little helper. Now I did purchase a basic model, and have set my expectations accordingly. Ive learned to check that cords are out of the way (after losing a couple). The app allows me to schedule cleaning times, which is handy. The base model does not automatically empty the robot. Its also a bit dumb about returning to base when the battery is low. Usually when it announces a low battery I empty the dog hair and take it back to recharge. Otherwise I have to hunt it down to find where it landed – usually under a bed or couch. It also managed to trap itself in the bathroom, which was good for some giggles. It meets my main requirements, which is to manage the dog hair in between proper vacuuming. Im not game enough to try the mopping function as I dont know thats its going to accurately differentiate hard floors from carpet – I may try this out at some point, but its not a high priority.Anne

So impressed. I am not paid or given a free bot for this review. I researched for 4 months and settled on this model by Shark. I don't know why people are claiming that this robot marks walls it comes close but does not touch them in fact if it sees a object it slows down till it maneuvers around it. Everything advertised it does and does excellent. The app is very easy to use. People complain about the app but I think they are using cheap phones or tablets. I honestly have nothing negative to say about this unit, I watched tests between roombas and eufys and all the the robot vacuums that could self empty at twice to three times the shark was nothing is close. The main thing was all the other company's use Vslam and cameras for guidance they can not see in the dark and basically go in random action like a bump and go toy, Not this Shark that uses lidar which is a invisible rotating Laser for guidance it is perfect and works even in the dark. I had to laugh roombas latest self empty has a white spotlight led mounted above its camera so it can clean without bright sun or the lights on. So you can pay 1400.00 for the vslam spotlight robot or 500.00 for the shark and have 3yr vip warranty with latest tech and row by row cleaning, and individual room cleaning. I also want to point out that after it does a room row by row when it finishes that it goes all the way back around the border of that room. Suction power is excellent on max, but you can choose between eco, norm and max in the app. You can choose to have it go back to empty every 30 minutes and it will go right back where it left off. I never have had it not find the base or had to go find it. I know it can be frustrating when trying to decide on which robot vacuum to buy. Do yourself a favor and buy one if you don't like it they have a 90 Day return policy and the customer service is awesome and they do care.Speedracer

One Year since purchase of our RV1101 (the 2502's previous generation model). I am completely satisfied with our Shark AI self emptying vacuum! 2 Labradors and a cat in our 2400sq foot home ensure that it has plenty of hair and dirt to contend with and it accomplishes its duties admirably. While the literature indicates "Up to 30 days" between emptying the base dirt receptacle, under these conditions that is a ridiculous expectation! Empty it daily until you determine for yourself how long it takes to fill it based on your actual home cleaning requirements if you have pet's in your home! That said, this is an incredibly good tool for keeping a home as clean as possible when shedding dogs are a part of your life. Other than emptying the dust bin every 1-2 days, it only requires washing the foam base filter once weekly and thoroughly cleaning the robot and base including vacuuming out the filters every 2-4 weeks. A truly minimal amount of time and effort required for a remarkable result. Getting "stuck" is a very rare occurrence if you follow the instructions for preparing your home. The "Empty and Resume" and "Recharge and Resume" features are what enable the Shark robot to accomplish it's duties in a home this size, Every day it's full cycle runs for over 4 hours to fully clean our home including 4 clean and dump cycles and a full recharge cycle (2 hours) after the 2nd dump following the first hour of operation. This includes the time it spends "Going Back" to clean any area where it expects to clean but may have been prevented from doing so on it's first attempt due to being obstructed by frequently moved furniture or a lazy old dog that refuses to move for "that pesky robot" (yes the old dog will just lay there despite being bumped repeatedly). All in all a fantastic cleaning machine! PS. Buy additional foam filters right away so you can have 2 in weekly rotation so you NEVER put a damp filter back in the base!krazybob

As soon as I received the Shark AI Robot Vacuum I wanted to set it up immediately in our open concept kitchen, dining and living area. All laminate flooring. I thought that the set-up might be a bit complicated for me but Shark has made the set-up and operation of this vacuum very user freindly. Even before opening the box, I was able to take my smart phone and scan the QRCode on the outside of the box and download the app. Step by step instructions guide you through the vaccum set-up process. (The most complicated task I had to do was go to my internet provider's app and enable the 2.4Ghz setting on our router, which is required for the Wifi connection) The set-up process includes sending the robot vacuum out for a mapping of the area to be cleaned. I was amazed that after just about 10 minutes the entire area was mapped out. Afterwards, I went to the app to look at the map and saw an accurate representation of my rooms, down to the footprint of a column seperating the rooms. The schedule tool allows for scheduling the vacuum to run whatever time, whatever day and however many days a week. It also records a history of those past scheduled cleanings and represents on the map the areas cleaned. I am definitely using the Ultraclean feature of the vacuum. This feature enables highlighting on the map, heavy traffic areas, or in our case the areas of the floor in front of the sink, around the island and the area in front of the stairs. The vacuum spends extra time cleaning these areas during the scheduled cleanings. I have also taken advantage of the spot cleaning feature. This feature enables you to highlight a spot on the map and have the vaccum clean only that spot without the vacuum doing an entire cleaning. After any cleaning that vacuum performs , the vacuum returns to the self empty base. Quite honestly, this Shark robot vacuum has too many features to list here in my review. The technology packed into this vacuum is amazing. Shark has developed an app that has all the support anyone could need. There is a printed instruction manual for viewing, there are seven videos available for viewing and there is the Shark Customer Care support available by phone. After running our Shark robot vacuum for about three weeks, I only have great things to say about this cleaning tool.maz6878

I have children and a cat and also hardwood floors throughout the main living area. I run the vacuum daily and the mop twice weekly on a schedule I set via the app. Additional runs of both are made when necessary. A daily schedule significantly cuts down on allergies for my household. The app was easy to download, set up and customize to my personal needs. The vacuum created a map on its first run and the mop did after two runs. I was able to divide out areas and label them so I can have the vacuum or the mop clean certain rooms, if desired. The mop also allows you to create smaller 'Keep Out' and 'Clean" zones, which will allow you to keep out of specific areas or do a heavier cleaning in an area. My vacuum is not showing these options and I would really like to see this feature, as my vacuum tends to get stuck on our boot tray. Upgrading from a manual empty bin to the self empty dust is a major plus for my busy family. We were emptying the bin every 1 to 2 runs, spewing dust all over as we emptied it into the trash and now it goes weeks before it will need a new bag. The mop needs to be refilled every 1 to 2 runs and I replace and clean the pad between each run. Overall, I am extremely pleased with how easy this was to personalize to suit my needs. I can use the app to run additional cleanings whether I am home or away which is very convenient. I can clean specific areas by either map or Alexa (you can also use Google/Siri). My cat likes to spend time with the mop and vacuum so enabling the child lock ensures she won't accidentally turn on one of the devices. As far as cleaning, the robot picks up a LOT of dirt and dust every single day, despite the floors not appearing dirty, which was an eye opener when compared to our previous vacuum. I ran the mop every day the first week and now have it set to twice weekly and it also picks up a lot of residue with each cleaning. You can personalize the mop to use 3 levels of cleaning solution and 3 levels of overlap (less, normal, more). There are a few things worth mentioning. The self empty cycle on the vacuum runs at the end of the cleaning. It is loud. Very loud. I was not prepared for this and it happened the first time during naptime. I have scheduled my cleanings to avoid this happening again. There is also a Do Not Disturb function that you can set in the app for the devices. Also worth mentioning is that the mop takes a long time to clean. I run about 400-450 sf on the mop and it takes 2 to 3 hours on the normal overlap, less solution setting. The mop doesn't take the same path each cleaning and sometimes runs with the hardwood and sometimes against and we have one area that it tends to show the wheel marks when it runs against. The mop also can not go over all thresholds and is limited in height. Ours can not cross into the one bathroom or laundry room due to the hardwood threshold. None of these are deal breakers for my family, but they may be for others. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this set. The combination of the vacuum and mop has my house looking clean and refreshed and has significantly cut down on our allergies. The vacuum handles cat hair, dust and dander much better than anticipated and the mop tackles the dirt and grime that comes with everyday life. I highly recommend this set to anyone with pets, kids and/or allergies, or for others simply looking for a combination of vacuum and mop that provide a deeper clean with the ability to personalize.Elthin12

I've been a Roomba user for about 15 years now and was excited to try this new WiFi connected version. Package allows you to take care of vaccuuming and mopping the floors, however software integration between two robots could have been a little better. For example – the only way to mop after the vacuum is to let Brava (mopping robot) start after Roomba (vacuum) finishes, there is no way to have them go room-by-room right after each other. Both robots do reference their own map and don't share (or don't seem to share) your house map between each other as each robot has to learn the surroundings by itself. Individually robots are doing a pretty good job though! Roomba (the vacuum) – seems to have a few troubles with a real thick carpet I have in the dining room (see photos) even with the majority of chairs removed – it tends to stop at the edge of the carpet and declare a "cliff" emergency asking for help. After manually moving the robot – it does not seem to learn the lesson and goes for the "cliff" again and again. There does not seem to be a way to block off the area of a thick carpet in the app. It does take Roomba about 6 (!!!) hours to vacuum roughly 1000 sq ft of hardwood and carpet are of my first floor so it takes multiple "naps" at the charging station. Cleaning quality is pretty good though and there is almost no mess to deal with – just replace the paper waste bag at the charging station when it gets full. Roomba does seem to bump a lot into walls and furniture though, I would probably opt for a higher model of Roomba equipped with synthetic vision and object recognition (like charging cords or pet waste). Brava (the mopping robot) – machine has an on-board tank for the cleaning liquid (Bona is what is recommended) and a spray nozzle up front. It would spray the cleaner first and then wipe it out with a microfiber cleaning pad that is attached underneath the machine. It only has 2 wheels so 3rd point of contact is the mopping pad itself. While it's doing a great job on the hardwood floor – it is having a horrible time at the transitions between hardwood and tile (Kitchen area) and hardwood and tile just under the fireplace. While flooring surfaces are level – they do have a small transition which throws Brava sensors off. It either can't climb over a transition or is attempting it at 45 degree angle – goes about half way over but suddenly gets "scared" and reverses rapidly. That results in it unable to get back to it's charging station unfortunately and giving up on a job. I really hope it's just a software update fix as I really like the Brava. Overall – it's a great power couple – but I would probably upgrade to a higher model if your home "terrain" is not easy to navigate thru.xKing

## Setup There is a lot of packaging to go through, breakdown, and put into the recycling bin, but at least you know that everything is protected well. Once you have all the pieces out of the box, you’ll find a quick start card to help you set up the charging base and wake up your robot. You’ll then head to the iRobot app to finish setting up your robots and connect them to WiFi. You may need to let it charge for a while (and apply any needed updates), but after 30 minutes or so, your robot should be ready to clean. ## Performance ### Roomba i3+ If you’re upgrading from a previous Roomba (or other robotic vacuum) like I am, you may be surprised to find that the i3+ includes a “mapping” feature. You can either allow the vacuum to learn while it cleans, or you can send it on a specific mapping-only quest where it doesn’t clean but instead just ping-pongs around your house, keeping track of walls and other barriers. You can then see the map inside the app and section off the rooms and name them. You’ll probably see some hilarious shaped rooms in the app as the Roomba doesn’t know furniture from a wall, but you get a general idea of what the Roomba can “see” around your home. After you name the rooms, you can use the app to have Roomba clean only a certain room, which is handy if, for example, there is some dry cereal spilled in the kitchen and you don’t want the Roomba to clean the whole house just to get to the cereal. The Roomba i3+ seems to have some upgraded rollers and suction power as I notice it picking up more dirt than my previous Roomba. One of my favorite features in the self-emptying dust bin! When the Roomba returns to its base it (loudly) transfers the dirt from the robot into a bag inside of the base. So the Roomba can perform multiple cleaning jobs before the dust bin needs emptying. I rarely used Alexa with my previous Roomba because while I was bent over emptying the dust bin, it was just easier to hit the “Clean” button while I’m down there. However, now that this Roomba empties itself, I might use the Alexa integration more often! I rarely run the Roomba while I’m away from home as I like to be within earshot in case it gets tangled on a cord I forgot to pick up. However, I like that the app notifies you with a push notification if there is a problem. I also like that with the app, you can set the floors to automatically be mopped after you vacuum. It’s like the two robots are BFFs! ### Braava jet m6 Before cleaning, you’ll need to attach a cleaning pad to the bottom of the Roomba (either one of the included single-use pads, or the multi-use microfiber pad) and fill the inside tank with a mixture of the cleaning solution and water. This is my first mopping robot and it is quite interesting to watch it work. It will move forward in a straight line about 2 feet or so, and if there are no obstructions, it will back up, spray some liquid, and then drive the cleaning pad over it, going an extra foot or so while the cleaning pad is still wet. The Braava did a surprisingly good job maintaining the straight lines while it cleaned the floor and probably did a more thorough job mopping than I normally do. 😀 It struggled more under the table and chairs, but in all fairness, I’m able to move the chairs completely out of the way to mop under the table so a human definitely has an advantage there. The Braava also does a good job of not overstaurating a certain area and uses the little bit it sprayed on the floor to cover a wide area. You can adjust this in the settings in the app to have the Braava use more or less liquid while cleaning. I set it about in the middle and was pleased with how well it cleaned. I can even walk in the area it cleaned after about 10 minutes without getting my socks overly wet. The Braava has a very low clearance and does not go onto carpeted areas or even the mats under the doors. This also prevents it from spraying cleaning solution down the furnace grate on the floor which I appreciate! I’m also happy I did not have to buy additional virtual barriers that I would have to move between vacuuming and mopping. When it is done, you can throw the multi-use pad into your washing machine or hand wash it so it is ready for the next cleaning mission. ## Summary This combo pack of the Roomba i3+ and Braava jet m6 is a great tag team system for keeping your floors clean! I appreciate the mapping features and the fact that you can set the robots to work in tandem with the Roomba vacuuming first, then automatically handing it off to the Braava to mop. The self-emptying dust bin is also an appreciated upgrade for keeping the Roomba ready to clean at any time.TechnicallyWell

I got this on sale from Target after watching its price for a while. This seems to be the best combination of (relative) affordability and performance on the market from the professional review sites I looked at beforehand. Taking it home and running it, I found that it actually performs much better than my old upright vacuum with zero hassle. I have it vacuuming areas of tile, utility carpet, and medium carpet in my 1200 sqft apartment. It does an excellent job with all of these surfaces. If I have it vacuum the whole place, it does need to charge about mid-way and maybe empty a couple times in the middle, which I think is reasonable considering that we have a dog and it is picking up a bunch of hair each time. Regarding specific gripes in other reviews: yes, the emptying sound is loud (but not jet engine, more like the volume of a regular vacuum) but only lasts a few seconds. I find that it picks up dog hair pretty well. It also handles thresholds/rug edges fine at about 1cm. It bumps into things when learning, of course, but not with much force contrary to some reviews. As for the learning, it didn't take much for it to master my oddly-shaped layout between the rooms and the furniture in them. I definitely would spring for the base instead of just getting the bot. That way you can truly start it and forget about it instead of having to manually empty a few times as it putters around. Overall: 100% recommend with no regrets and I wish I had gotten one sooner.thebandageman

I bit the bullet and upgraded from a dumb robot vacuum (ecovacs N7) to this smart robot vacuum because it was on sale for $200 off MSRP. Three months later and I've been completely satisfied with the upgrade. Thanks to the mapping feature on the J7 I was able to replace 2 existing vacuums and know that my entire upstairs got cleaned. The old vacuum would get stuck in a room because it couldn't find the door and keep cleaning the same area till it ran out of power. The self emptying dust bin is a great time saver and means less maintenance each week. The sensors and programming are much better at keeping the J7 from getting stuck and having to be rescued. I'm not thrilled about sharing my floorplan and cleaning schedules with iRobot, or any company. The roombas are very expensive. Even more expensive if you have multiple floors and need daily cleaning in all areas and have to get multiple vacuums. It's brushes will leave a few little twists of felted up hair behind if you have pets, long hair, or both so it's not a pristine clean unless you have it do a deep clean every time. However, I am more than willing to deal with those negatives for all the benefits that this robot vacuum offers over my old robot vacuums. If you want to see if a robot vacuum is for you I'd suggest getting a cheap one to try with for a year or two. No robot vacuum is perfect or capable of competing with a traditional vacuum. If you can accept the compromises though and find them beneficial then I would highly recommend getting this model when it's on sale. I can't say if it's really worth it over other models at the full MSRP though.JoshuaNormal

While the vaccine has its weaknesses it cleans better than we did before we purchased it. We have 5 carpets with tassels or fringes. The Rumba loves to get caught on these and runs till the battery runs out. So we move the smaller carpets and the 16 X 20 silk carpet is adjusted so the Rumba can not clean it. We simply turn the edges over so the machine can not climb on it. Then we vaccine that rug the old fashioned way. The filter works so well it is hard to believe. We ran the Rumba all over the house and left for a week long trip. When we got home we ran the Rumba again and it picked up the dust. The filter was clean except for a bunch of dust. The product was cranky when trying to hook it up to the app. Since I have to move it between 3 levels of the house I just don't bother with the app. Fortunately I am still able to get up and walk to the device and push a button. I do not need to depend on Google or Alexa. The bad reviews I read were from a bunch of people with unrealistic expectations. As an aside the vaccine does not actually learn your house because when you use it again it has to learn it again. But it does remember where it left off if it needs to go home to recharge and then it starts where it left off.lukeman5433

These robots are useless after a year. The first year I had it, it worked really well. I maintained it, cleaned it, and charged it regularly. Before the first year was up, I filed the warranty because it stopped picking up anything. Now, a year later, its repeating the same thing but iRobot was very comfortable telling me to spend a minimum of $110 to repair the useless hunk of metal and plastic. Or the other option was to spend $200 to buy the lower end models. For something that initially cost me $350, this should last me as long as a Dyson but its a complete waste of money. I also got this because I have severe allergies so if I dont regularly vacuum daily, I get allergy attacks. I thought this would address but instead, I just ended up wasting my time. Im very disappointed that as a responsible user who put trust in something as expensive as this product, my whole investment went down the drain in less than 2 years. Ill be buying a regular vacuum now, they night be susceptible to the same breakdowns but theyre cheaper and pick up a lot more dust and particles.epics46

This purchase was to replace an original 960 bought new from iRobot when it was a flagship model. I am reviewing the second, replacement for the refurbished 960 I purchased from the eBay store. The first one was so bad and had so many faults and problems including not being able to dock that I requested a refund the next day. I gave it a second chance and ordered another one while waiting for the return and refund. It is maybe only 40% defective, but it will function and dock. It will not stop cleaning and return to the base as programmed for bin emptying until the extractor discharge shoot is full and dumps on the floor requiring hand clean out each time. It is incapable of driving over any throw rug or carpet runner without getting it pulled into the extractor rollers and hanging it up, it lacks the intelligence to free it's self from these obstacles like the original did.tgblair

I bought this in 2018. It has worked less than half the time since then. I am constantly trouble shooting issues. Currently have an error 11 that I cannot seem to resolve and of course it now recommends purchasing another battery. The replacement parts have already cost a fortune to keep the thing running as little as it does and the new battery they want me to purchase is $100. Not really Inclined to spend more money trying to keep this thing running. The small amount of time it actually worked it did an ok job. So, as of this date I've tried: AnotherBrandE30; Roomba e6; Roomba 985; and Roomba i7. This Roomba e6 is the surprising winner! Frankly, Lil Bubba bounces around in an annoyingly random manner — but man he sucks up the dirt! Better than the 985, and the i7 so far as I can see. Here's the challenge: average sized home, three *curses* carpeted bedrooms. Rest of home is tile or hardwood. A long history of being owned by animals (four-legged, domesticated type). Essentially, a giant petri dish of year-round allergens. Roomba e6: Simple, hardest-working, effective. Yes, he lacks a rational mapping program. So, yes, he will bounce around seemingly randomly, to clean the space. I will say in his defense that when he finds a wall or senses an edge, he will run along it, and follow for example, a tight turn around furniture legs, etc. So there is some "logic" of a kind. But this guy is sturdy which is why I love him so. He has *never* registered "dirty sensors,* he keeps ploughing through even when his little wheels are all wrapped up in pet hair (do clean them regularly!), and never gets lost or stuck anywhere. He just works hard, returns home and docks himself. No fanfare — I LOVE MY LIL BUBBA! He cleans like a mother-on-a-mission! The first time I ran him through the master it took only ten minutes for his bin to fill (head bowed in shame). There was pet hair in there that must have been left by two pet-generations ago! He just kept at it. Keep in mind, this carpet had been "cleaned" by conventional vacuums prior to buying these irobots! Ten runs later, he had cleaned down to the underlay for the full hour! But here's the thing — because he lacks a mapping program, he works best if contained in a specific space. So, set up the sensors to keep him confined to one room at a time and he'll be fine. Probably not as effective to give him full run of the house. Did I mention I LOVE him? Lil Bubba's suck-power seems way greater (at "5x!") than the i7 (at "10x!") power.OwnedByCritters

I've had a Bob and a Shark autovac and this iHome is the easiest to set up both the vacuum and the app. It's wifi connected immediately. Programming it to clean on specific days and times was extremely easy as well. I think the hardest thing to do was locate the power and home buttons which are touch sensitive and are unable to be seen if not lit up. This vacuum charges quickly and does a decent job sweeping and mapping a course. I have several throw rugs down, to help my GSD with traction, and this robot vac only got stuck once when it actually sucked up the rug and got jammed. My Shark got stuck on them constantly because it's wheels weren't large enough, which is one main reason I stopped using it. This iHome vac also easily finds it's recharging station before it runs out of life. The bin isn't as large as my Bob Pet was but it did my kitchen, dining room and small hallway before I emptied it and it would have he'd a little more. I haven't used it on the main carpet yet so I can't speak to how it will do there but I don't expect these robot vacs to manage heavier items such as carpets with deeper pile. I deep clean those with my Shark lift vac. This iHome robot vac is perfect to just make life a little easier cleaning my hardwoods and tile while having 3 dogs!lindchad

Eclipse G 2 does good on our hard surface floors such as kitchen and hardwood areas and just okay on carpet areas. Not a replacement for real vacuum cleaner or mop, but help keep up and extend full vacuum and mopping. I do like the mop feature and does surprisingly well especially if you spray hard floor lightly with cleaner. I don't see how this says it has navigation, it will tell you where it has been on phone app. however it don't remember room layouts and everytime it goes out it just bumps around like any plain robot vacuum. I found it works best if you just use remote and tell it to do room boarders then tell it to go back and forth in pattern otherwise it just bounces off everthing in no order. It also will not find home base if it is not with 5 feet from it. pushing home button just makes it bump around in circles until you make it go within the 5 feet of base. I'm also afraid that the battery my not last too much longer and only had it 4 months. I have notice a dramatic drop in battery life since new so I might have to use the extended warranty I purchased for it. All in all a okay robot vacuum/mop for the price, but I sure there are better out there. I will mark as yes to recommend item only for those that don't expect true navigation and have open floor plan areas.btim3

love this vaccum! i got it on clearance for $115 so the price value was amazing because its regularly $399! i have to say this thing is awesome! it has a super suction option and i pretty much only run it on that super suction. it picks up great! it really gets the sides of walls great too, its engineered to bump up to the sides and get every crumb. ive had robot vacuums in the past that were the bottom of the line robots that were "cheap" ($120 eufy brand) and so i was reluctant to buy another one but im so glad i did! it really does do a great job and i dont have to go behind it with my dust mop picking up the slack. i also love that i can just switch out the dust bin with the mop bucket and have it mop as well! it also vacuums in order! its not all over the place like the cheaper eufy robot vacuum. if your going to invest in a robot vacuum dont even waste your time with the "cheap" ones. you have to go big or go home. this one is excellent and ive heard its comparable to the $699 roomba. so it does save you a bit of money unless your lucky enough to find it on sale for $115 like i did! 🙂patrick

I have several robot vacuums and I can absolutely recommend this one, it cleans well and the navigation is also really good. I'm also going to talk about something that isn't common because my situation is unique. I'm a blind person and can't read print. I use an Iphone which has a built in screen reader called Voiceover which allows a person to use the touch screen if they can't see it. Basically, it allows you to touch anywhere on the screen and hear the item that you have touched, or you can swipe a finger left and right to move through the items on the screen. To activate the item that was spoken, you double tap anywhere on the screen. Depending on how apps are designed, some applications will read better than others. The Eufy home app works really well with Voiceover. I had no problem creating an account and setting up my robot. I also have no problem sending the bot out to clean or changing its settings. The main setting I wanted to change was to set the cleaning power to the highest setting, I figure if the robot has the power, why not use it? The one thing I can't do is use the features that require you to draw on the map but that's the way it is with all robot vacuums, there is no way to speak that kind of information. I always prefer to clean my entire place so for me this is not a concern. This is a great robot vacuum and I could not be happier with it.Mike A.

Like most folks these days I did some research before making this purchase. To be honest, there are so many robo vacuums both name brand named and unbrandes. This model is unique in that it both mops amd vacuums. Few actully do both. The price, comparitively speaking, is great compared to those that do leas amd cost twice as much. I am impressed with the job it does. Far above what i was hoping for. The mopping is amazing as well. The battery even lasts almost twice as long as advertised. I cannot think of a single negative attribute with this model. Im very pleased and will buy another when the time comes.MattMcG

This things is a life saver! Thankfully I purchased one, it helps where I don’t have to sweep as often. With dogs and kids it was just another chore and hassle . But I brought this vacuum and helps so much. It’s dumb at times and get stuck in corners, but I’ll be ok.amber.v

I loved how this valcume picked up. Wasn't impressed with the mop option. But I ended up returning it because the charger/ charging port started not working all the time. The return process has been horrible. First I had to wait for them to email me back, then was offered a discount if I used warranty and now its going to be 10 to 13 days to get my refund. If Wal-Mart is going to sale items on their page please back the product by allowing returns directly through you.laura

My house is a 2217 square foot house and its floors are over 75% carpet which requires good vacuuming considering there are small children and a wide layout of rooms on both floors which necessitates a robot vacuum on each floor to ensure deep cleaning on carpets to prevent the accumulation of dust and dirt. This Robot Shark IQ has a high level of absorption leaving a great job in its wake. The ground floor has a large dining room, office, bathroom, laundry room, kitchen and hallway areas that require good vacuuming and I have noticed that even with all of that, it has mapped it out super well in just 3 cycles. , and has started off in a different direction each time, obviously looking to complete the map and is doing an excellent job so far. He has had no problem returning to his "mother ship" to unload when needed and picking up where he left off. Run time on most tile and carpet floors can be approximately 90 minutes, including 1 or 2 round trips to unload. After loading, it will come back out and pick up where it left off, just as you'd expect. On the second floor there are 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and the work is repeated in the same way with an impeccable finish due to its powerful suction level… it is a great appliance that saves us time and we can program it to clean without us being at home. We’ve owned other robot vacuums and it’s very apparent the difference in quality, performance and advanced features with this Shark IQ Robot. The vacuum is very thoroughly at cleaning every nook and cranny. It can transition easily from hardware floors to rugs. There are blocking strips that are included if you don’t want it to go in certain areas such as cords or fringe materials. It does a good job of getting out of a spot that it can get stuck in. I was very impressed that it would maneuver on and off the base of our bar stools. It will get under beds, sofas and tables as long as there is clearance. I would highly recommend downloading the Shark Clean app so the robot can map your house and you can control, monitor and schedule to have it automatically start cleaning or you can turn it off and it will return back to the charging dock. So cute! The best part is the self emptying function that will empty all the debris each time it returns to the base. The only negative feedback is that it is very loud when it performs the self emptying function, but at least you know that it is working. We don’t wear shoes in the house and like to vacuum every few days to pick up any dust and dirt which is very noticeable and enjoyable. This is well worth the price.saleetah

I don't know why I waited so long for one of these. I can't say enough good about this unit. I have a siberian husky and this thing is a powerhouse. We have all hard floors and usually used a Swiffer dry pad or a shop vac to clean the floors. Every time I'd finish there would still be dog hair. NO MORE. This little power house runs and the hair is gone. It even does great along the walls and in corners. It's a little too tall for under my furniture but gets under my beds just fine. It took 1 hour the first day so it could map out the areas I have it clean and 40 minutes the next run. I have it clean a living room, two bedrooms, a hallway/house entryway, and my bathroom. On normal mode, only uses 40% of its battery. It's not overly noisy. It can run while I'm watching TV. I think I want a 2nd one, a less expensive model for a kitchen we share with my mother that is on a different floor of the house. she has 5 cats and a messy litter box area. The manual says you need an insane amount of room around the dock but you really don't. you can see from my picture it sits between the diaper genie and an entertainment stand in my grandbabies room that they play and sleep in while they're here.Busymammax2
