Best Robot Vacuum For Pet Hair Self Emptying (2023 Update)

The shark robot vacuum cleaner is a wonderful addition to my household! Not only does it take a HUGE Chuck of todo off of my plate it does a decent job when it’s running! It has great features if you pair it with the app (shark app). Such as setup and scheduling when paired with app or you can start it from your phone and see where all it’s cleaned. It does take a few runs for it to figure out your home but once it does, BAM! It goes!! My kids get such a kick out of watching him go through the house. Even my pet birds enjoy him! It cleans Marvelous! I love the fact that it will go and noticed that it’s for example a dining room chair and go and get around all the dining room chair legs by spinning with its sensors and brushes and making sure it gets around each and every single leg on my dining room table and chairs it also does the same thing with all three of my birdcages. I’ve even tried to trick it and put the debris in certain areas and before I know it the debris is gone! The only downside is if you don’t put it into eco-mode if you have a large home such as mine the battery dies fairly quickly which was a huge disappointment, Or sometimes the sensors will knock a hard object such as a peanut with its brushes and it will miss it and not pick it up, but seriously that’s the only negative thing I can think of with this machine. To me the pros outweigh the cons and I would definitely recommend this product. I love the fact that it empties itself and I was amazed after two days the amount of debris in the container! Complete shock. I will say you will have to maybe run the sweeper yourself just to get a few areas such as deep corners things like that but for the most part this thing has taken a huge chunk out of my daily schedule as a homemaker therefore I would highly recommend this product! This Shark EZ Auto Empty robot vacuum is pretty amazing! The robot vacuum comes in nice packaging and has easy to understand instructions in the manual. This shark robot looks very attractive and looks really nice with its base unit. This product is a true handy helper to have around because I have cats in my household, and there’s tons of kitty hair constantly shedding all of the time and with my busy schedule, it’s not always easy to keep up with daily vacuuming and this is a wonderful product to have and it helps so much! This shark robot comes with a base unit and has a mat that goes under the base unit and this robot self empties its contents into the base unit and the base holds enough debris for thirty days before it needs to be dumped. I dump it out more frequently because there’s a lot of pet hair and this shark robot really cleans the hair up great, as well as daily messes left behind, as it has strong suction. I like that you can download an app and you can control the robot right from the app. In the app there’s different modes for cleaning and you can also tell it to go back to its base. I love how you can configure a schedule within the app, for its cleaning time. This shark maps out your home and self navigates. This robot vacuum can also be used on multiple floors in a home, as it won’t fall down the steps. This shark is good on carpet and all types of hard flooring. Be aware that – like any but the most expensive robot vacuums – the vacuum path has to be free of cords, socks, and the like. The vacuum picks up well and is relatively quiet while doing so. The filters have to be cleaned for every 1500 sq. ft. of cleaning in our house – both on board the vacuum and in the self-emptying base. While this indicates great HEPA filtration, it also means extra work. It is possible to buy inexpensive, aftermarket replacement filters and brushes that work well. My major problem is that the vacuum doesn't run the same route twice. It has cleaned a different amount of sq. ft. each week (100-350 sq ft. missed out of 1500), and the maps it generates show the areas it gets one week and misses the next. We run the vacuum once per week and have everything picked up the same and furniture in the same place each time. We're not sure what makes it choose different routes with different zones missed. That being said, I just come home, look at the app to see what was missed, and cover that with our regular vac. The app is easy to use, at least. And while the vacuum can get stuck fairly easily, it only takes a couple weeks of seeing where it gets stuck to move furniture or lay down magnetic barrier tape to keep that from happening. Next time, though, I will get the AI unit that allows the user to map individual rooms. Then, if it misses a room or a significant part of the room, I can just order the vacuum to clean that one area again.Kudzu

So impressed. I am not paid or given a free bot for this review. I researched for 4 months and settled on this model by Shark. I don't know why people are claiming that this robot marks walls it comes close but does not touch them in fact if it sees a object it slows down till it maneuvers around it. Everything advertised it does and does excellent. The app is very easy to use. People complain about the app but I think they are using cheap phones or tablets. I honestly have nothing negative to say about this unit, I watched tests between roombas and eufys and all the the robot vacuums that could self empty at twice to three times the shark was nothing is close. The main thing was all the other company's use Vslam and cameras for guidance they can not see in the dark and basically go in random action like a bump and go toy, Not this Shark that uses lidar which is a invisible rotating Laser for guidance it is perfect and works even in the dark. I had to laugh roombas latest self empty has a white spotlight led mounted above its camera so it can clean without bright sun or the lights on. So you can pay 1400.00 for the vslam spotlight robot or 500.00 for the shark and have 3yr vip warranty with latest tech and row by row cleaning, and individual room cleaning. I also want to point out that after it does a room row by row when it finishes that it goes all the way back around the border of that room. Suction power is excellent on max, but you can choose between eco, norm and max in the app. You can choose to have it go back to empty every 30 minutes and it will go right back where it left off. I never have had it not find the base or had to go find it. I know it can be frustrating when trying to decide on which robot vacuum to buy. Do yourself a favor and buy one if you don't like it they have a 90 Day return policy and the customer service is awesome and they do care.Speedracer

I was so excited to set up and start using my Shark AV2511AE AI Robot Vacuum with XL Self-Empty Base and I was not disappointed. It was easy to set up and charged pretty quickly. It was very easy to download the app and get the Shark working. The Shark will first map your space so it knows where to go each time it cleans. You can set up the Shark to clean on a schedule or you can tell it when to clean using the app. You can even send it out to spot-clean a small area if need be. When the Shark is full, it will automatically return to the base and empty itself in the base. Supposedly you can go 60 days without emptying the base. However, I have three children and a large dog and I do not believe that we can go that long without emptying the tank in the base. Even still, this is so much more convenient than my old robotic vacuum that I had to empty with each use, and often before it was finished vacuuming. Emptying the tank on the base is a breeze. The app will notify you if there is a problem with the Shark, for example, if it gets stuck on an uneven surface, or if something gets caught in the beater bar. There is also a function on the app to locate the Shark if it gets "lost" under a piece of furniture or something, but I have not had to use this function. Of course, the Shark will work best if your house is not cluttered and the floor is thoroughly clear of items such as toys or shoes. It moves easily from my hardwood floors onto my shag rug, and it's relatively quiet. The only con I can think of is that the base needs to be set up in an area with three feet of clearance on all sides. My house is not large and this really limits where we can put the base, but if you have a large house with a lot of open space this won't be an issue. It won't take the place of my regular vacuum for deep cleaning and corner cleaning but overall my house is so much cleaner with the Shark making its rounds regularly. I have owned this Shark for about 6 weeks now. This is kind of a mixed review, as there are some things I like, and some that need lots of improvement…. Starting with the likes.. The Shark is really good when it comes to cleaning, and lack of work I now have to do. I was able to map my house pretty easily, and she remembers everything (I think!). When she goes out to clean, she always does a thorough job, and everything looks clean. I haven’t had any issues with scratched baseboards or furniture – she does bump into things here and there, but no damages or anything. For the way she cleans, and the easiness of having her clean, I would give her a 5-star review……. But that leads me to the dislikes (it’s really one major dislike – but it really ruins everything about the machine)…. The App sucks – mostly when it comes to connecting to, and staying connected to the machine. I have a very strong internet signal at my house, and rarely have issues with any internet-connected items I have. This robot, however, just does not stay connected, and there really isn’t any easy way to simply reconnect (at least none that I can find). You have to go in through the App, and delete the machine, and then re-add it in order to re-connect to the internet. It wouldn’t be too bad if this happened periodically, but it’s everyday – and now, I just don’t bother anymore, I just hit the clean button to have her do her work! If it was just the App, and connection issues, I would make this review a 0-star! But the 2 issues put together give it my 3-star rating……. I plan to purchase another machine in the near future, but not sure if I will go with Shark again, as I really like the internet connectivity features – they are pretty important to me…. Doesn't vacuum in any organized fashion whatsoever….basically goes all over the place, like it's drunk. Unfortunately, it also goes over the same spots a few times but leaves some spots untouched. I still have to take out my regular vacuum for those and for the carpet (which I knew it doesn't vacuum carpets). It saves me a bit of time I guess because while it vacuums like a drunken sailor, I can do something else and when it's done, I go over what it did and finish with the carpet. Wherever it DOES vacuum, it does a good job and picks up everything, so that's a plus for sure. Good thing it wasn't more than I paid though – not sure yet if I regret this purchase.Adela

My house is a 2217 square foot house and its floors are over 75% carpet which requires good vacuuming considering there are small children and a wide layout of rooms on both floors which necessitates a robot vacuum on each floor to ensure deep cleaning on carpets to prevent the accumulation of dust and dirt. This Robot Shark IQ has a high level of absorption leaving a great job in its wake. The ground floor has a large dining room, office, bathroom, laundry room, kitchen and hallway areas that require good vacuuming and I have noticed that even with all of that, it has mapped it out super well in just 3 cycles. , and has started off in a different direction each time, obviously looking to complete the map and is doing an excellent job so far. He has had no problem returning to his "mother ship" to unload when needed and picking up where he left off. Run time on most tile and carpet floors can be approximately 90 minutes, including 1 or 2 round trips to unload. After loading, it will come back out and pick up where it left off, just as you'd expect. On the second floor there are 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and the work is repeated in the same way with an impeccable finish due to its powerful suction level… it is a great appliance that saves us time and we can program it to clean without us being at home. My 3rd Shark Robot A few years ago I bought a Shark ION RV750 robovac on eBay and was blown away by what a good job it did, so I purchased a Shark R85 on the next Prime Day, but was disappointed as it seemed it wasn't an upgrade, if anything it performed a little worse (it was slightly taller so it didn't fit under as many items of furniture), but it still did an excellent job. So moving into a tri-level home, I knew I wanted to get one more, but was torn between getting another 750 (which I knew worked well – and it's still going strong to this day!) or if I wanted to splurge and get the IQ Self-Empty. The appeal of being able to map and then determine which rooms were to be vacuumed was a big appeal as I've got two teens and their rooms aren't always robovac friendly. I also really liked the idea of not having another robovac to empty daily. We have 3 cats and a dog – along with allergies, so daily vacuuming is a must – and it's always a full bin. I considered the Roomba i7+ and i9+, but figured that I'd already had such a good experience with Shark that I'd stick with what I know works, and works well. So I decided to give the IQ a try. I'm already blown away! It's exceeded my expectations and it hasn't even completed the mapping process yet. As always, set up was a breeze. It's only ran a few times, but I can already tell a difference between it and the 750 that was previously on the top floor. I have a Shark Apex vacuum and the carpets are closer to that level of clean than the ION 750 which is astounding. Unlike my other two robovacs, it sets out and vacuums row by row with an impressive amount of precision. It does, as expected, fail to get debris in compact corners (for example the 4 inches of wall between the dresser and the doorway). It's ability to navigate around items, but then remember exactly where it left off once it has gone around, cleaned and returns to that spot, is equally impressive. The precision in which it finds the dock and loads in unlike the other two robovacs, albeit, I don't give it the suggested space around the dock (all three versions do just fine docking even with minimal surrounding open space). When it self-empties, it is loud, but not any more so than how a normal household vacuum sounded about 20 years ago, and it only lasts for about a minute, if that. I love this little robovac so much that I could see myself replacing the other two older ones with this model in the next year or so. Let me be clear, emptying the bins daily isn't bad at all. It's that the only trash wide enough to easily ensure none of the dust or debris go into the air or on the surrounding ground is the kitchen trash – and that's assuming no one's loaded up the trash to almost being full, and while most of the time, I'll go dump the bins in large trash, if I'm running out the door or in the middle of something else, I do tend to just go to the nearest trash can – which makes a small mess (although much less messy than not having the floors clean at all!).Ashlie

We’ve owned other robot vacuums and it’s very apparent the difference in quality, performance and advanced features with this Shark IQ Robot. The vacuum is very thoroughly at cleaning every nook and cranny. It can transition easily from hardware floors to rugs. There are blocking strips that are included if you don’t want it to go in certain areas such as cords or fringe materials. It does a good job of getting out of a spot that it can get stuck in. I was very impressed that it would maneuver on and off the base of our bar stools. It will get under beds, sofas and tables as long as there is clearance. I would highly recommend downloading the Shark Clean app so the robot can map your house and you can control, monitor and schedule to have it automatically start cleaning or you can turn it off and it will return back to the charging dock. So cute! The best part is the self emptying function that will empty all the debris each time it returns to the base. The only negative feedback is that it is very loud when it performs the self emptying function, but at least you know that it is working. We don’t wear shoes in the house and like to vacuum every few days to pick up any dust and dirt which is very noticeable and enjoyable. This is well worth the price.saleetah

Purchased 3 months ago. It still spends a great deal of its time against the walls of a room or underneath everything, but NOT vacuuming the main floor until after it runs its battery down and it cannot finish. It does NOT vacuum in a straight line either. We only have 1100 sq. feet of hardwood and tile to vacuum. The battery dies or it malfunctions before the job is finished. We often have to run it twice. To try to avoid malfunctions, I have to clean the entire Rhoomba everytime it runs, not once a week like the instructions say. Maybe that is because we have pets? The emptying device works great, but the bag is not as reusable as it says if you have furry pets because you have to pull all the hair out (with old litter, yuck) with your fingers from a very small opening. Probably is very easy to empty in a home without pets. However, it is advertised for homes with pets. When it properly works it is great, but that is about 4 times out of every 7 daily uses, so 60% of the time.Mya

purchased this on clearance for 288, later found that I could purchase online from Walmart for 249 non clearance?! ..ok ill keep it as long as everything works. it did not!. manually everything performed well, fought with connecting to Wi-Fi, will only use 2.4ghz, tried that wouldn't complete. opened the suggested ports on my router, still couldn't connect. has a weird way of connection via iRobot home app, connect to the 2.4ghz Wi-Fi, then pressing 2 buttons to find the Roomba, it finds and then temporarily connects to it via wifi and roomba makes a chime so you know its connected to your phone, I'm guessing its trying to pass the network id and password over to it but fails every time. I now have returned this to store and ordered a J7 , M6 mop and a H1 handheld vacuum, a lot more pricy but you get what you pay for i guess, plus the reviews are great and I believe I read that it will connect to 5g as well as 2.4g networks 😀Lucian

This robot vac works pretty well, but it seems to take a long time to learn the room's layout. So long, in fact, that it often has to return to its recharging station before it finishes cleaning. It does pick up where it left off, though. I also appreciate that it has larger wheels that give it the ability to handle carpets/rugs well. It's even able to go over the U-shaped base of a couple of wooden Ikea chairs. The only oddity is that I created a 1 am cleaning schedule for the vac, which has run twice now, and both times the robot has gotten stuck on the same chair. Can't understand why it works when I manually start a clean but gets stuck when the auto-schedule runs. Probably the biggest blemish on this iRobot vacuum, though, is that when it gets back to the docking station, the refuse bin attached to the docking station is as loud as a 1950s Hoover when it sucks the dirt out of the robot's holding compartment. One Year since purchase of our RV1101 (the 2502's previous generation model). I am completely satisfied with our Shark AI self emptying vacuum! 2 Labradors and a cat in our 2400sq foot home ensure that it has plenty of hair and dirt to contend with and it accomplishes its duties admirably. While the literature indicates "Up to 30 days" between emptying the base dirt receptacle, under these conditions that is a ridiculous expectation! Empty it daily until you determine for yourself how long it takes to fill it based on your actual home cleaning requirements if you have pet's in your home! That said, this is an incredibly good tool for keeping a home as clean as possible when shedding dogs are a part of your life. Other than emptying the dust bin every 1-2 days, it only requires washing the foam base filter once weekly and thoroughly cleaning the robot and base including vacuuming out the filters every 2-4 weeks. A truly minimal amount of time and effort required for a remarkable result. Getting "stuck" is a very rare occurrence if you follow the instructions for preparing your home. The "Empty and Resume" and "Recharge and Resume" features are what enable the Shark robot to accomplish it's duties in a home this size, Every day it's full cycle runs for over 4 hours to fully clean our home including 4 clean and dump cycles and a full recharge cycle (2 hours) after the 2nd dump following the first hour of operation. This includes the time it spends "Going Back" to clean any area where it expects to clean but may have been prevented from doing so on it's first attempt due to being obstructed by frequently moved furniture or a lazy old dog that refuses to move for "that pesky robot" (yes the old dog will just lay there despite being bumped repeatedly). All in all a fantastic cleaning machine! PS. Buy additional foam filters right away so you can have 2 in weekly rotation so you NEVER put a damp filter back in the base!krazybob

As soon as I received the Shark AI Robot Vacuum I wanted to set it up immediately in our open concept kitchen, dining and living area. All laminate flooring. I thought that the set-up might be a bit complicated for me but Shark has made the set-up and operation of this vacuum very user freindly. Even before opening the box, I was able to take my smart phone and scan the QRCode on the outside of the box and download the app. Step by step instructions guide you through the vaccum set-up process. (The most complicated task I had to do was go to my internet provider's app and enable the 2.4Ghz setting on our router, which is required for the Wifi connection) The set-up process includes sending the robot vacuum out for a mapping of the area to be cleaned. I was amazed that after just about 10 minutes the entire area was mapped out. Afterwards, I went to the app to look at the map and saw an accurate representation of my rooms, down to the footprint of a column seperating the rooms. The schedule tool allows for scheduling the vacuum to run whatever time, whatever day and however many days a week. It also records a history of those past scheduled cleanings and represents on the map the areas cleaned. I am definitely using the Ultraclean feature of the vacuum. This feature enables highlighting on the map, heavy traffic areas, or in our case the areas of the floor in front of the sink, around the island and the area in front of the stairs. The vacuum spends extra time cleaning these areas during the scheduled cleanings. I have also taken advantage of the spot cleaning feature. This feature enables you to highlight a spot on the map and have the vaccum clean only that spot without the vacuum doing an entire cleaning. After any cleaning that vacuum performs , the vacuum returns to the self empty base. Quite honestly, this Shark robot vacuum has too many features to list here in my review. The technology packed into this vacuum is amazing. Shark has developed an app that has all the support anyone could need. There is a printed instruction manual for viewing, there are seven videos available for viewing and there is the Shark Customer Care support available by phone. After running our Shark robot vacuum for about three weeks, I only have great things to say about this cleaning tool.maz6878

I was skeptical that a battery powered vacuum could get results similar to a regular corded vac. I was right. It picks up surface stuff fairly well but is no substitute for a real vacuum. Having said that, we do find it very useful for cleaning up pet hair. We leave it to run in a room when we are gone and the receptacle has a good amount of dist and hair in it. It keeps the carpet a little cleaner between vacuuming. The sweeping pattern is totally random and it tends to stay in one spot for a long time before moving on. When it encounters an obstacle it does an almost full turn and collides with the same object. If you leave it in one small room. block off the areas under dressers and such that it tends to get lodged under, it's handy enough. Our side sweeper brush motor burned out after four months and I read that it should be taken out and cleaned regularly. This is not mentioned in the instructions. For this much money you can buy a mid-range upright which I would recommendSteveC

I got this on sale from Target after watching its price for a while. This seems to be the best combination of (relative) affordability and performance on the market from the professional review sites I looked at beforehand. Taking it home and running it, I found that it actually performs much better than my old upright vacuum with zero hassle. I have it vacuuming areas of tile, utility carpet, and medium carpet in my 1200 sqft apartment. It does an excellent job with all of these surfaces. If I have it vacuum the whole place, it does need to charge about mid-way and maybe empty a couple times in the middle, which I think is reasonable considering that we have a dog and it is picking up a bunch of hair each time. Regarding specific gripes in other reviews: yes, the emptying sound is loud (but not jet engine, more like the volume of a regular vacuum) but only lasts a few seconds. I find that it picks up dog hair pretty well. It also handles thresholds/rug edges fine at about 1cm. It bumps into things when learning, of course, but not with much force contrary to some reviews. As for the learning, it didn't take much for it to master my oddly-shaped layout between the rooms and the furniture in them. I definitely would spring for the base instead of just getting the bot. That way you can truly start it and forget about it instead of having to manually empty a few times as it putters around. Overall: 100% recommend with no regrets and I wish I had gotten one sooner.thebandageman

I bit the bullet and upgraded from a dumb robot vacuum (ecovacs N7) to this smart robot vacuum because it was on sale for $200 off MSRP. Three months later and I've been completely satisfied with the upgrade. Thanks to the mapping feature on the J7 I was able to replace 2 existing vacuums and know that my entire upstairs got cleaned. The old vacuum would get stuck in a room because it couldn't find the door and keep cleaning the same area till it ran out of power. The self emptying dust bin is a great time saver and means less maintenance each week. The sensors and programming are much better at keeping the J7 from getting stuck and having to be rescued. I'm not thrilled about sharing my floorplan and cleaning schedules with iRobot, or any company. The roombas are very expensive. Even more expensive if you have multiple floors and need daily cleaning in all areas and have to get multiple vacuums. It's brushes will leave a few little twists of felted up hair behind if you have pets, long hair, or both so it's not a pristine clean unless you have it do a deep clean every time. However, I am more than willing to deal with those negatives for all the benefits that this robot vacuum offers over my old robot vacuums. If you want to see if a robot vacuum is for you I'd suggest getting a cheap one to try with for a year or two. No robot vacuum is perfect or capable of competing with a traditional vacuum. If you can accept the compromises though and find them beneficial then I would highly recommend getting this model when it's on sale. I can't say if it's really worth it over other models at the full MSRP though.JoshuaNormal

I love this Shark IQ Self emptying Robot Vacuum! It extra large capacity. The dust bin takes weeks before it requires emptying. There is a charging indicator light on the front along with the camera feature. There is a bumper that offers protection. The voice feature is very handy for when the vacuum gets in a bind. The no tangle feature is not one hundred percent accurate however in comparison to other vacuums it doesn’t get as tangled with my curly hair. I do notice that large debris doesn’t suction in the emptying can fully. The brushes are withstanding quite well even after a month of use. The direct aim while in use is very accurate. The charge time is pretty standard. The cliff sensors are accurate as well. This vacuum does run very loud while in use so be warned if you put the baby to sleep not to run it then, it is not the smoothest sounding vacuum. The charging station and ports is fully functional and is going strong. One huge advantage it the dust bin is a bag less system and that is very economical. I do empty the dust bin weekly instead of weeks. Overall I am truly loving this robot vacuum.Mommydaddy777

In being the first robotic vacuum used in our house, we are amazed with the functionalities of the Shark IQ Robot Vacuum. The product itself is easy to assemble and instructions are clear. I am able to access features through my phone app and Alexa. It's also helpful to see the cleaning reports come through. I really like how the machine works with both carpet, tile and wooden floors, as my house is a mixture of all. The cleaning capacity of the robot vacuum is amazing, especially since living in a household of a toddler, children and pets, and endless dirt and crumbs scattered around. The only thing is that I usually have to run it while we are away, as my toddler loves to get up close and personal with the vacuum. The vacuum conveniently goes back to its base when needing a charge and doesn't need emptied for over a month. I was a bit concerned before using on how the vacuum would function in my house with lots of furniture, but the mapping system helps it to maneuver around things in its way. I LOVE this robot vacuum so far! First of all, it is a super high quality product! They use only the best materials to make it! It is also very durable, which is important with this kind of product! None of the components get damaged even when the robot vacuum runs into things! This product comes with both the robot vacuum and the base! You will need the Shark app to be able to control the vacuum, so you will need a smart phone. But getting the app is super easy. Once you get the app downloaded, you can sync it with the vacuum and have the vacuum map out your home! It is really, really cool! I love that you can also use the magnetic strips that it comes with to block off rooms you don't want the vacuum to go into. If it senses the strips, it will not go into that room. I really, really like the self emptying feature! Once the vacuum gets full, it automatically finds its way back to the base and empties itself! This is VERY useful, so I don't have to empty it every time I use it! And, the base can hold a lot so you don't have to empty it every single day either! The rollers on the bottom of the vacuum are easy to clean as well and you will be alerted on your phone if something gets stuck! It's just a really, really nice robot vacuum! This vacuum worked great when I first got it. Literally 4 months later, I had nothing but issues with this thing. Everyday there would be a new notification, error 2 obstruction under it, or another error where there’s and issue with side wheel, I have even ordered parts to replace like filters and even new roll brush, still having issue. After a deep cleaning internally, of the side wheels and the front wheel. My vacuum will only run on clean for a sec before having a error and it won’t run. I have literally even reset it to factory setting. I can’t believe I spend so much on a vacuum that barely runs anymore. Like I said, it worked great for 2 months, no issues. I have a iLife robot vacuum for 4 years and it works way better then this one. Only downside, no self empty bin. That is the only best part to this shark. This shark has also left so many black marks on my baseboards of my new house. Which are white originally, now they are all skid mark all over the house. I’m beyond disappointed. I bought this after owning an iRobot because it advertises that it does cleaning on a grid rather than the pinball pattern iRobot uses, and the fact it empties itself. I have hardwood floors throughout, a Rottweiler (heavy shedder) and I have long hair. Well the grid pattern is sketchy. I suppose if you have a house laid out in a grid with no angled furniture or walls, idk, maybe it does. It seems to attempt a grid but it does not canvas one room or area before moving to another so it is still "pinballing" around, going over the same spots, missing others. One time it will go behind an angled chair and do the corner, and miss it the next. Just when I think it is doing a grid, it takes off across the floor to another area. All cords have to be off the floor and it is helpful if you pull all your chairs out from the table. Of course this probably messes with the mapping of your house, but if you don't it doesn't seem to get under the table and/or chairs very well. Kitchen/dining chairs seem to confuse it's mapping because they are not always in the same spot. However when it's done, with the chairs pulled out a bit, it gets it. Also if you have those padded mats in your kitchen it is best to pick them up as well. It will go over them, even the thicker ones, but it will not do a good job on the area around the mat as it, of course, loses suction when it rises to go over the mat. Hair does still get wrapped around the beater bar and the brushes, but it will alert you to the obstruction when this happens and you have to clear it, but again I have very long hair and a Rottweiler so, it can't do miracles. All in all it wasn't as great as I was hoping but it does touch the floors up while I do other things, I don't think anyone expects these things to replace a person vacuuming and cleaning but for touch ups it's good. The collection cup is small but since it empties itself that is okay. Hair is a daily battle with a Rottie no matter how much you brush and this helps with that battle because it can be run every day and it gets under the couches (not all furniture but it's better than not). You have to have a 4" clearance to get under furniture. So for me I give it 3 stars because I wish it did a true hard core grid and could maneuver around objects and return to grid, and not ping pong from area to area. But it does keep at it and does a much better job than the sporadic iRobot.sherry

Cleaning my house with a hand broom and dustpan would be both faster and less frustrating than trying to get this awful thing to do what I want. The mapping function in the app is worthless, because even after 10 rounds when it finally has a half-decent map, it randomly moves where it thinks the dock is. So, when you tell it to go clean the bedroom but it thinks it's starting from the middle of the lawn, it pretty much just moves randomly. Yes, the app will actually move where it thinks the dock is completely off the map and outside the home. You're left to let it clean the whole house or nothing, but then you need to be able to somehow get everything off the floor of the entire house at once (because you never know where it will go next), and then you have to stop every 15 minutes or so because the brush gets clogged with hair wrapping around it. Or it runs its power switch into a door stop and turns off. Or it just jams itself under the couch and gets stuck. The rare time it actually does what it's supposed to, it's wonderful, but those times are few and far between. Oh, and when you go to the website for help, there's no way to submit a comment, no support email, and not even a number to call. You just have to give them your number so they can call you at THEIR convenience. Maybe iRobot is better, but I'm giving up on the whole idea of robo vaccuums after this piece of junk.Ryan

My house is a 2217 square foot house and its floors are over 75% carpet which requires good vacuuming considering there are small children and a wide layout of rooms on both floors which necessitates a robot vacuum on each floor to ensure deep cleaning on carpets to prevent the accumulation of dust and dirt. This Robot Shark IQ has a high level of absorption leaving a great job in its wake. The ground floor has a large dining room, office, bathroom, laundry room, kitchen and hallway areas that require good vacuuming and I have noticed that even with all of that, it has mapped it out super well in just 3 cycles. , and has started off in a different direction each time, obviously looking to complete the map and is doing an excellent job so far. He has had no problem returning to his "mother ship" to unload when needed and picking up where he left off. Run time on most tile and carpet floors can be approximately 90 minutes, including 1 or 2 round trips to unload. After loading, it will come back out and pick up where it left off, just as you'd expect. On the second floor there are 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and the work is repeated in the same way with an impeccable finish due to its powerful suction level… it is a great appliance that saves us time and we can program it to clean without us being at home. My 3rd Shark Robot A few years ago I bought a Shark ION RV750 robovac on eBay and was blown away by what a good job it did, so I purchased a Shark R85 on the next Prime Day, but was disappointed as it seemed it wasn't an upgrade, if anything it performed a little worse (it was slightly taller so it didn't fit under as many items of furniture), but it still did an excellent job. So moving into a tri-level home, I knew I wanted to get one more, but was torn between getting another 750 (which I knew worked well – and it's still going strong to this day!) or if I wanted to splurge and get the IQ Self-Empty. The appeal of being able to map and then determine which rooms were to be vacuumed was a big appeal as I've got two teens and their rooms aren't always robovac friendly. I also really liked the idea of not having another robovac to empty daily. We have 3 cats and a dog – along with allergies, so daily vacuuming is a must – and it's always a full bin. I considered the Roomba i7+ and i9+, but figured that I'd already had such a good experience with Shark that I'd stick with what I know works, and works well. So I decided to give the IQ a try. I'm already blown away! It's exceeded my expectations and it hasn't even completed the mapping process yet. As always, set up was a breeze. It's only ran a few times, but I can already tell a difference between it and the 750 that was previously on the top floor. I have a Shark Apex vacuum and the carpets are closer to that level of clean than the ION 750 which is astounding. Unlike my other two robovacs, it sets out and vacuums row by row with an impressive amount of precision. It does, as expected, fail to get debris in compact corners (for example the 4 inches of wall between the dresser and the doorway). It's ability to navigate around items, but then remember exactly where it left off once it has gone around, cleaned and returns to that spot, is equally impressive. The precision in which it finds the dock and loads in unlike the other two robovacs, albeit, I don't give it the suggested space around the dock (all three versions do just fine docking even with minimal surrounding open space). When it self-empties, it is loud, but not any more so than how a normal household vacuum sounded about 20 years ago, and it only lasts for about a minute, if that. I love this little robovac so much that I could see myself replacing the other two older ones with this model in the next year or so. Let me be clear, emptying the bins daily isn't bad at all. It's that the only trash wide enough to easily ensure none of the dust or debris go into the air or on the surrounding ground is the kitchen trash – and that's assuming no one's loaded up the trash to almost being full, and while most of the time, I'll go dump the bins in large trash, if I'm running out the door or in the middle of something else, I do tend to just go to the nearest trash can – which makes a small mess (although much less messy than not having the floors clean at all!).Ashlie

We’ve owned other robot vacuums and it’s very apparent the difference in quality, performance and advanced features with this Shark IQ Robot. The vacuum is very thoroughly at cleaning every nook and cranny. It can transition easily from hardware floors to rugs. There are blocking strips that are included if you don’t want it to go in certain areas such as cords or fringe materials. It does a good job of getting out of a spot that it can get stuck in. I was very impressed that it would maneuver on and off the base of our bar stools. It will get under beds, sofas and tables as long as there is clearance. I would highly recommend downloading the Shark Clean app so the robot can map your house and you can control, monitor and schedule to have it automatically start cleaning or you can turn it off and it will return back to the charging dock. So cute! The best part is the self emptying function that will empty all the debris each time it returns to the base. The only negative feedback is that it is very loud when it performs the self emptying function, but at least you know that it is working. We don’t wear shoes in the house and like to vacuum every few days to pick up any dust and dirt which is very noticeable and enjoyable. This is well worth the price.saleetah

While the vaccine has its weaknesses it cleans better than we did before we purchased it. We have 5 carpets with tassels or fringes. The Rumba loves to get caught on these and runs till the battery runs out. So we move the smaller carpets and the 16 X 20 silk carpet is adjusted so the Rumba can not clean it. We simply turn the edges over so the machine can not climb on it. Then we vaccine that rug the old fashioned way. The filter works so well it is hard to believe. We ran the Rumba all over the house and left for a week long trip. When we got home we ran the Rumba again and it picked up the dust. The filter was clean except for a bunch of dust. The product was cranky when trying to hook it up to the app. Since I have to move it between 3 levels of the house I just don't bother with the app. Fortunately I am still able to get up and walk to the device and push a button. I do not need to depend on Google or Alexa. The bad reviews I read were from a bunch of people with unrealistic expectations. As an aside the vaccine does not actually learn your house because when you use it again it has to learn it again. But it does remember where it left off if it needs to go home to recharge and then it starts where it left off.lukeman5433

These robots are useless after a year. The first year I had it, it worked really well. I maintained it, cleaned it, and charged it regularly. Before the first year was up, I filed the warranty because it stopped picking up anything. Now, a year later, its repeating the same thing but iRobot was very comfortable telling me to spend a minimum of $110 to repair the useless hunk of metal and plastic. Or the other option was to spend $200 to buy the lower end models. For something that initially cost me $350, this should last me as long as a Dyson but its a complete waste of money. I also got this because I have severe allergies so if I dont regularly vacuum daily, I get allergy attacks. I thought this would address but instead, I just ended up wasting my time. Im very disappointed that as a responsible user who put trust in something as expensive as this product, my whole investment went down the drain in less than 2 years. This purchase was to replace an original 960 bought new from iRobot when it was a flagship model. I am reviewing the second, replacement for the refurbished 960 I purchased from the eBay store. The first one was so bad and had so many faults and problems including not being able to dock that I requested a refund the next day. I gave it a second chance and ordered another one while waiting for the return and refund. It is maybe only 40% defective, but it will function and dock. It will not stop cleaning and return to the base as programmed for bin emptying until the extractor discharge shoot is full and dumps on the floor requiring hand clean out each time. It is incapable of driving over any throw rug or carpet runner without getting it pulled into the extractor rollers and hanging it up, it lacks the intelligence to free it's self from these obstacles like the original did.tgblair

For the price, this is a good entry-level robotic vacuum. It's not a good option if you're hoping for a deep clean, and it will never get into the tightest crevasses, but for a daily sweep or spot clean it is actually pretty handy. You can set it and forget it when heading out for work or let it loose in a specific room. It's noisy on bare floors but reasonably quiet on carpets. The rollers and dust bin must be cleaned out regularly, but it does get under beds and couches, which I appreciate a lot – less bending for me. If you have an open concept home you may wish to purchase "virtual wall" room dividers from iRobot to keep the Roomba constrained to specific areas (available online). This unit offers so many features and outperforms all previous units and it also includes a mop feature! What’s in the box: – DEEBOT X1 OMNI vacuum and mop robot – OMNI auto-emptying and auto-cleaning station – Extra dust bag – Extra pair of mopping pads – Cleaning brush – User manual When it arrived the size of the box was a little surprising, I was nervous about how big this robot might be. Once unboxed, it is actually a very manageable size for our home. We have a perfect spot in our family room for the base unit which provides access to all the hardwood and tile flooring on the main level. Setup: There are extensive instructions included (user manual) that are easy to follow and made the initial setup a breeze. Ecovacs has done an amazing job of simplifying the setup process for the non-technical user. Both the Deebot (vacuum) and the Omni station (base – instructions attached) require setup. The base needs to be plugged in and the clean water tank filled. The DEEBOT should be fully charged before initial use. The side brushes and mop pads can be installed at this point or left off for initial mapping of the required spaces. I've owned several robot vacuums and I can say nothing comes close to this Ecovacs robot. I've used it for a few days now and am completely blown away with how well this robot works and how dead simple Ecovacs made the whole process. Out of the box this thing is huge. I've had one other self emptying robot vac and the base station for the X1 dwarfs my old base station. This is largely due to the fact that this base station has two massive water tanks to fill and empty the robots on board water tank used to mop hard surfaces. The robot itself is sleek and feel sturdy and very high quality. Packed with every feature imaginable, this robot really is the most advanced smart home device I've ever used. Setting the Robot up was so simple. I followed the instructions in the app, plugged in the base station, connected to wifi and used Ecovacs built in voice assistant "He Yikko" to tell the vacuum to get started. It then made it's way around my house quickly mapping out the entire house room by room. Gone are the days where you have to wait through several full vacuum cycles to get a map of your house. Within 15 minutes the app was updated with an almost perfect map of my house, it even recognized the toilet in the bathroom. After getting the map of the house, I popped on the mop brushes and sent the vac on its way cleaning my house. There were a few things I was really surprised with. The first being how quickly it made its way around my house. It was considerably faster than my old robot and still cleaned just as well if not better. The second was the X1's ability to identify changes in the floor. When you have the mop brushes on the X1 easily identifies transitions to rugs or carpets and knows not to go there and try to mop your carpet. I was also shocked at just how well it cleaned after its first full run. The first run the X1 wandered around finding every wall and moving in what fell like no logical way. But at the end it did clean the house. But every time after that this thing moved like a well oiled machine, starting at the back of the house and moving room by room making straight lines through the whole floor. I will say my floors have not looked this good in a long time. I decided to really test out the X1 by starting it without cleaning up the shoes and toys my kids left all over the house and not opening all the doors all the way. I was again shocked to watch the X1 roam through the house, dodging socks and dolls and finding its way through a half opened door to go about its business. It really only tripped up once by sucking up a white barbie dress, which to be honest is understandable. I've learned the X1's base water tank will last about 4 cycles of mopping by about 1000 sq ft of hardwood, which seems very nice. Emptying the dirty water is quick and simple and man was it full of dirty water. I have no doubt this think is cleaning after looking at the water. It really is a start and forget kind of robot that will do everything you need it to and exceed all your expectations. But the fun doesn't stop at mopping and vacuuming. The X1 has a few other little features that just add to the fun. The first being the build in voice assistant. I wasn't expecting very much, since usually proprietary voice assistants don't work as well as Google or Alexa, but this this is pretty cool. It's faster to respond than any assistant I've used and works great for getting the X1 started and has fun little features like yelling at your X1 to come clean by your feet. There is also a built in camera and speaker on the front of the X1 that lets you use the X1 like a sentry if you want it to roam your house to keep an eye on things while you are away. It's an interesting feature and a neat little addition. I can't say I've gotten a ton of use out of it, but how cool is that my vacuum has a camera. Really the only thing I had any problems with was I wanted to put cleaning solution in the water used to mop, but Ecovacs recommends you only use it's cleaning solution. Only problem is, I can't find anywhere that the cleaning solution is sold. It's not even available on Ecovacs website, which is really strange. Overall, this thing has it all. I don't think you'll find a more advanced robot vacuum, which makes sense given this things price tag. SETUP/MAPPING It comes with the Deebot X1 Omni vacuum/mop robot with a plethora of sensors, two side brushes, a “floating” main brush, three wheels, and mop system attachment with pads. The top is magnetic which grants you access to the on/off switch and a cute little bagless bin that can hold 0.1 gallons with a reusable washable filter that empties automatically when the vacuum goes back to the station or manually if you want to go back to that peasant lifestyle. The Omni auto-emptying and auto-cleaning Station is large compared to other bases. As it houses a clean water tub, dirty water tub, a cleaning brush, an extra pair of mop pads, and a 3L disposable dust bag. The power cord is removeable and has a place to wrap it on the back for cable management. Both the vacuum and the base feel well built, solid, and high quality. Each of the tubs has thick plastic with rubber textured handles. Everything opens and closes easily. Along with sliding in and out of place smoothly. You can tell a TON of engineering went into every single aspect of this device. Replacement parts aren’t too expensive either which is good. They report an overall run time of 140 minutes. Which I found to be accurate on stock settings. But if you increase the suction power it is a lot less. If you run out of battery mid clean it will return to the dock, charge a bit, and then resume cleaning. They report it takes 6.5 hours to charge fully. Which is a long time, but they likely chose that to maximize the life of the battery. They say it has a max decibel range of 68 dB. I found on stock settings it was close to 50 – 60 dB and would imagine going to maximum suction would be between 60 – 68 dB. On the lid of the base, it gives you instructions on how to get started. Which pretty much says unbox everything and scan the QR which takes you to the Ecovacs HomeVac App which then walks you thought the rest of the process. Which is pairing your robot, connecting it to the internet, and doing the initial mapping that you can see in real time. They report that it uses True Mapping 2.0 which scans the home environment, quickly generates a map, plans the most efficient cleaning paths, and they guarantee less missed and repeated spots. Which I found to be accurate. Once the initial mapping was done, I fine-tuned it by adjusting my house walls, combining some rooms, labeled them, and made a few software barriers. Such as my stairs. It treats that barrier as a wall, and I haven’t had an issue with it. Overall setup time was about 30 – 40 minutes. VOICE CONTROLS: The Voice Control supports Alexa and Google Assistant. But also has a unique one called Yiko. Which you can access by saying “Ok, Yiko” and then a plethora of commands such as “begin cleaning”, “stop”, “return to dock”, “what are you doing”, “clean x”, “mop x”, “clean under table”, etc. You can say “I’m here” and through sound localization tech it will seek you out and clean around you. All of which worked well just like any modern age smart assistant. However, the robotic voice can be improved as it doesn’t sound very good. You can increase/decrease the volume through commands or via the app. And it will call out when it is doing something which I LOVE. Such as starting a clean, returning to the base, emptying the bag, cleaning the mop pads, etc. Which I really like. As that way you aren’t left wondering. For those of you concerned about privacy voice commands are saved on a server which you can go in and delete in the app. You can also turn it off if you’d like. OBSTACLE AVOIDANCE: It uses something called AIVI 3D which utilizes AI computing power, astrophotography-grade RGB camera, LiDAR, dToF sensor, autopilot technology, and human recognition to identify and detect obstacles while scanning the home and creating paths to clean even in the dark. They do report that it works better in well-lit environments. Which I found to be true but did just fine in the dark. With all this tech it does a spectacular job at avoiding objects. On the extremely rare occurrence it did suck something up it shouldn’t have it would automatically turn off the brush, lift itself up, and try to vroom off. This worked every time without intervention. There are two protective bumpers on the front, and I found it rarely bumped into anything to activate them. Even when it did it was very mild making me unconcerned about damage to the vacuum or the thing it was being rude to. It never ran into me or my dog. When it detects an object (shoes, dog toys, clothes, cords, socks, etc.) it will clean around them with a minimal barrier (maybe an inch/inch and a half) and gets even closer around tables, chairs, or walls (maybe an inch or less). It never got stuck anywhere. During the initial mapping it shimmed itself into a small crevice under a bed that was barely big enough for it to fit, went exploring, and came out the other side full of dust with a story of adventure. This little baby is an absolute game changer! With pets and people through the house all day, there has always been the chore of yet another floor vacuum looming. Oh my goodness .that daily chore has been wiped off the list! Instead I have taken great delight in making a coffee and sitting down to watch this wonderful little maid complete it all for me !!! It does a great job, zooming around sucking up all the mess, yet also gently manoeuvres its way around chair legs and obstacles without causing any chaos. And I have to say, one of the best things is that it cleans under the bed!!!! No more do I have to get down there in awkward positions trying to manoeuvre the vacuum stick underneath to clean all the dust! What a winner!!! Absolutely love it and am still so excited about being able to just set it and leave it to do its thingand I don't even have to put it away as when its finished, as it says clean completed and takes itself back to the charging station to charge and wait until the next time! Carpet detection means it automatically increase suction power for carpets and the cleaning result is good. During the first use it maps out the house, this initial step does take a long time to complete. After the initial mapping, I can choose to clean the whole house or smaller designated areas and it does so in a much shorter amount of time.During vacuum, it has sensors to avoid things like slippers, socks or random items lying on the ground. It does this reasonably well but I did have a floor standing fan that the vacuum cleaner didn't recognise as an obstacle to avoid, so it climbs on to the fan base and it ends up getting stuck and gave an error. To elaborate, the fan base was shaped like a ramp so the robot vacuum thinks it can proceed onto the base instead of avoiding it. I've worked out the solution was to either remove the fan from the floor to be cleaned or I could create a virtual wall with the Ecovac cleaning app so the robot vacuum will avoid the fan. Noise level is lower than expected. It is definitely much quieter than my non-robot vacuum cleaners.Overall, it does everything the marketing material says it can do and I think it does map, clean and avoid obstacles rather well. Battery life could be better as a single charge is insufficient to clean the whole house for me. Ecovac T8 and T9 , which are the premium models come with the bigger battery capacity but they have a much higher price point. I was happy to settle for the smaller battery because the robot will return to recharge and then continue to clean from where it left off.anonymous

I purchased the N8 Pro after considering all the other models. I have to say that so far I am very impressed with how well it vacuums my hardwood floors and carpets. It has no trouble changing from hardwood to carpet and does a very decent job, a lot better than I expected. The mapping went well however it did take a while as it had to recharge before it finished off the mapping. The 3D Auto detection does a good job of avoiding obstacles along with my dogs that like to stand in its way. I also purchased the auto empty bin and I am so glad I did. I find that it makes it so fuss free and saves having to empty it each time. I now vacuum my hardwood floors in our living areas and the main bedroom every day and the entire house once a week and the floors look spotless. I tried the mopping function once and it was terrible, luckily the vacuuming makes up for its poor mopping ability. This model doesn't have the oscillating mop attachment so maybe it would work a lot better if it did. All in all it was well worth the purchase.Gail55

Like most folks these days I did some research before making this purchase. To be honest, there are so many robo vacuums both name brand named and unbrandes. This model is unique in that it both mops amd vacuums. Few actully do both. The price, comparitively speaking, is great compared to those that do leas amd cost twice as much. I am impressed with the job it does. Far above what i was hoping for. The mopping is amazing as well. The battery even lasts almost twice as long as advertised. I cannot think of a single negative attribute with this model. Im very pleased and will buy another when the time comes.MattMcG

This things is a life saver! Thankfully I purchased one, it helps where I don’t have to sweep as often. With dogs and kids it was just another chore and hassle . But I brought this vacuum and helps so much. It’s dumb at times and get stuck in corners, but I’ll be ok.amber.v

I loved how this valcume picked up. Wasn't impressed with the mop option. But I ended up returning it because the charger/ charging port started not working all the time. The return process has been horrible. First I had to wait for them to email me back, then was offered a discount if I used warranty and now its going to be 10 to 13 days to get my refund. If Wal-Mart is going to sale items on their page please back the product by allowing returns directly through you.laura
