I bought this for a friend that has back issues and vacuuming is difficult. She loves it, but she didn't have high expectations. I tried setting up the app but was unable to resolve wifi connectivity issues. I didn't try that hard, so maybe it could be resolved with a larger investment in time. It is run manually, as needed, and seems to work well as it transitions from hard floors to medium height pile carpeting. It can't always seem to find its base, but she doesn't keep the base right out in the open, as suggested, because it wouldn't look very nice. Small modifications to the house help it avoid problems, like a bumper on a fire place to keep the bot from going too far in and causing damage to trim, also, lowered a threshold between rooms so that the bot could cross over in both directions. It does have fairly impressive off-road capabilities and was making it over a large threshold, but was trapped on the other side. The terrain doesn't need to be really flat. If your willing to work with it and don't expect it to work miracles, it can be a purchase you don't regret. It has been almost a year of ownership. No parts to be replaced yet.
I admit, I am a robot groupie. As such, I've have about 8 vacuum bots over the years including the first Roomba (had no numbers in the name, just Roomba). I also have 7 cats and 2 dogs, so you know the Roombas are working in our house. If you have deep pile carpeting, this is the best bang for the buck of the major brands on the market. At present, I also have the i6 (exactly like the i7), and although it is great on floors and short pile carpeting I have in the kitchen and living room (and I absolutely LOVE the automatic empty feature), it's not great on the deep pile carpets I have in my bedroom. I also have a Eufy 11s and it is good for floors, but not for carpeting. The Shark is basically useless. However, this guy is great! The brushes really clean the carpets well, and when it finishes, the carpets look as though they have been vacuumed with a heavy duty, non-robotic, plug-in vacuum. This is not just my own opinion. I've other folks look and they were quite honestly surprised by how well the 690 vacuumed the carpets. "It works this well on the carpets? I thought robot vacuums were only for floors." I love this robot!
I was skeptical that a battery powered vacuum could get results similar to a regular corded vac. I was right. It picks up surface stuff fairly well but is no substitute for a real vacuum. Having said that, we do find it very useful for cleaning up pet hair. We leave it to run in a room when we are gone and the receptacle has a good amount of dist and hair in it. It keeps the carpet a little cleaner between vacuuming. The sweeping pattern is totally random and it tends to stay in one spot for a long time before moving on. When it encounters an obstacle it does an almost full turn and collides with the same object. If you leave it in one small room. block off the areas under dressers and such that it tends to get lodged under, it's handy enough. Our side sweeper brush motor burned out after four months and I read that it should be taken out and cleaned regularly. This is not mentioned in the instructions. I had high hopes for the roomba I7 and the braava jet by iRobot, but about 7 months into my roomba ownership it is not the hassle free experience it's made out to be. My I7 worked great for about a month and a half, but since then it's been plagued by numerous issues, glitches, and vastly reduced battery life. I've called support 4 times fo report issues, and generally, troubleshooting fixes my issues for a week or so at a time before another issue arises. I'm lucky if I get 45 min average battery life on my I7 now, but when I called support, I was advised that "it's normal"…after only owning it for 7 months. Nevermind that it takes 3 hours to return to a full charge after only running for 45 minutes. The braava is a completely separate issue. Between the tracks and the film on my floors, it doesn't get used much. However, I bought a water softener and filtration system, and the film is a lot less than it used to be, but if you don't have soft water, the film can be rather unsightly. While I was expecting that cleaning my house would to be easier when I bought my roomba and braava, instead I find I spend as much time changing pads, replacing filters, and swapping out brushes; emptying bins or filling tanks; cleaning off sensors and troubleshooting issues; and getting frustrated that my roomba can't actually clean as on demand as it's made out to be. My roomba randomly gets lost and can't find the home base causing me to track it down in the most unlikely of places; gets drunk and randomly falls of the ramp onto the home base; or worse yet just runs out of battery in the middle of a job and stops in the middle of the floor. My advice to someone thinking about buying: don't own a dog, don't have kids, and don't live an active lifestyle. Why you might ask…..because the roomba and braava will not help you save time cleaning up after any of them consistently.Frustrated
I've tried quite a few robot vacuums and I think that roomba's Have the biggest name because they 1st move or advantage but they are not the best vacuum out there Let's start with navigation.. The robot does a decent job of creating a map of your house but even with that map it still runs into things all of the time, and, it does not navigate efficiently from room to room or within a room when cleaning. It will ignore keep out zones sometimes. It will try to force itself underneath things that it cannot fit and then get stuck.. There needs to be some kind of sensor on the nub in the front so that when it starts running into things with that it knows to stop trying because it will force itself under something and get stuck and that novel not let it escape. Vacuuming: Though iRobot boasts About the section power, the robot does not pick up a lot of debris. The period the vacuum turns off and on randomly and it misses a lot of stuff. Especially on carpet it will clump up pet hair and then leave it in clumps all over the carpet instead of sucking it up.. I have to follow behind it with a hand held vacuum and suck up all of the clumps that it leaves. If it runs over an area rug it'll actually leave clumps that weren't there before that it picked up elsewhere in the house. Smart app and other complaints: Comparable vacuums out on the market will allow you to keep track of the robot's location live while it's cleaning via the map. iRobot does not allow that. The roomba will get stuck In random places.. And will just sit there until the battery dies sometimes making it difficult to find. Half of the time the app cannot connect to the robot and the robot has to be restarted. Half the time the robot will not seat itself on its base correctly and will not charge.. If using the Bravo jet mop, To mop after vacuuming Is, a lot of the time it will not start the mop automatically and the mop may not even do a full run before it just decides it's done and quits.
Great product, mapping is the best I have seen, suction is good but I would recommend to vacuum every 3 days as the manufacturer says. The time saving is the most precious asset of this type of machine as you can do something else while the robot does the job for you. Easy to clean and filter are replaceable. However, sometimes it leaves some minor debris (just a few) and the corners are not it best but these are minor things. Customer service it awesome, my robot stopped working properly, sent it to the repair center and got a new one. It important to mention that you should remove small items from the floor like lego bricks and also clothing before activating the robot, otherwise it will get stuck. Again, the best asset of this product is the time saving, at the beginning I was not sure expending so much money but after these years is totally worth it. I have hardwood floors and I simply want roomba to do a quick daily run on the high traffic areas (kitchen, high traffic passage/hall, and entrance). The whole area is roughly 800 sqf. I have change the settings to custom do that it does 1 run per area so that it's "as quick as possible", yet it takes about 1 hour to do 280 sqf, and that's if it doesn't get stuck. Every single day it manages to get stuck in the most stupid way possible. On the rare days it decides to do the entire job it also finds a way to screw up. As you can see in the attached picture, one day it decided it needed to clean my neighbor's house. So it happens that NY neighbor has the same iRobot model and we think somehow they were trying to get together for a good night out. The dumbest part of all? Now that route is permanently part of my map and the only way to erase it is to start from scratch again…. I can't believe the software doesn't allow for manual modifications to correct the dumbest "smart" appliance ever created. Another incredible aspect of this useless piece of junk is that it's built to run with the lights on. The camera that's on top of it, does not see well in darkness so you absolutely have to run roomba during the day of with the lights on!! Another annoying thing about this is that every 1 or 2 months it simply decides that it won't do the daily run for no apparent reason, so every time I have to press the clean bottom for 20 seconds to remind it that I actually do not like dog hair on the floors. Ling story short, do not buy this model. Even if you win it on a raffle, don't hesitate to give it away!!!! The sad part is that when it runs, it actually does a decent job on the hardwood floors. The thing is that it takes too long and only finishes about 2% of the job required. Like I mentioned before, my neighbor has the same model and he is equally as dissatisfied with it as I'm!Ricardo
I have had this robot for a year and it has been the worst purchase I've mad. The robot is completely infuriating. So let's start with the price – at the given price point I should be doing maintenance on this this only when brushes or bags need to be changed. It needs weekly cleaning and troubleshooting. The regular vacuum I purchased following this purchase (due to continued requests to return, and constant emails because this robot, has literally worked less than 9 times this entire year on command) requires me to empty it once a month with once a week use. The app is flaky at best and the robot almost never responds to it. Even though my virtual assistants can get it to at least make noise. Not to mention it's loud – all the time. Loud when emptying the bin, loud when running and loud when docking. The bin never empty's as designed so I always have to manually do it, with new bags old ones or anything. I thought it may have been clogged but my new vacuum pulled nothing. Operation is so infuriating, I can't stand to use this item that was supposed the make my life easier! The mapping is awful, and if you try to fix it to help the robot, you'll spend hours to discover that the adjustment only last as long as the robot doesn't run again! When the battery gets low, it never goes back to the base and because the battery is dead I have to search and find it. My smart home is set to turn the lights on when it's scheduled to o run, to help it "see", and it still manages to not be able to find its way back. To make matters worse, the lights were set to go off when the robot redocks – luckily they still went off after an the robot died. I could go on and on about the sink hole of money you will spend on accessories, and the time you will waist troubleshooting nothing, but I would say – just don't waist your money, spend it on a Dyson or Bissell!Shay
This is our first foray into the world of Robot vacuums and must say I personally am blown away by it. We have owned it for the last one month or so. We chose the S9+ iRobot Roomba since based on my research, it is the best robotic vacuum at this time. So far it has fit this bill perfectly. The installation was very simple and my daughter did it since she was so super excited about it that she would not wait up for me. So by the time I got to it, she had already installed it and kept it ready to go. We put in the laundry room and it does not take much space. We started the mapping run on day one of installation. It took a good 5-6 hours and we had a bit of doubt as to what exactly it was doing. But apparently this robot learns and now we have a daily schedule that vacuums the most frequently areas which it finishes in an hour and 10-12 mins like clock work. We have tiles on the first floor with carpet in two rooms. The vacuum switches from tile to carpet mode effortlessly. The vacuum’s suction (S9+ has the highest suction in current range of iRobot vaccums) seems just right. I am amazed at how the vacuum navigates itself through the maze in your house. The careful drive feature does work and it does not bump into objects. Also it seems to clean in areas that our usual vacuum does not reach. Although my wife would occasionally sweeps the floor to bring dirt from under normally stationary objects like sofa etc, it is not needed everyday. For the daily quick clean, make sure though that there are no dangling wires that may get entangled in the vacuum or any clothes. The vacuum can get stuck if there are clothes lying around. We do “clean everywhere “ deep clean on the weekends and that job finishes in about 5 years. If I had to suggest improvements, I would say somehow if they can make it more quieter in future, it would be awesome. Also I know this is asking too much, but if it can do stairs and go on second floor too. 🙂 Little bit regarding the Mop. We were debating whether we should buy the Vacuum and Mop combo but decided to go for it since Bestbuy was giving a nice discount on the combo during the Black Friday sale. The mop does a decent job, is very quiet and even tells you if you forget to fill the cleaning fluid. It takes a long time though so if anything, that is what I would ask for improvement. And we will be using it every day to keep the carpets clean, and our cats somewhat freaked out (No cats were harmed in this review). I will start with the cons because the only con I found is the price, but this is very normal considering the technology and if you want to be lazy, you have to pay up! The pros are: Very easy to get it to start, just pull out the battery isolator, plug the dock in electricity, place the Roomba on the doc, let it charge for a couple of ours, and while doing so, you can connect your new Roomba to your home network by downloading the app from the google or App store depending on the maker of your phone. Connecting to your home network is very easy, it took less than a minute, and that's including linking it to my Google home (it can be linked to google home, Alexa, google assistant on phones that support it. I can’t attest to Iphones since we do not own any). After a while on the charger, I had many options to start the Roomba, I could do it by pressing the clean button on the machine, or by using the provided Roomba app, or by telling my android phone with Google assistant: Ok Google..please ask Roomba to start cleaning (which I did). Roomba moved out of its dock, started a not so high vacuuming noise and found its way around my apartment, and boy it did clean. Roomba moved easily between my many pieces of furniture and never got stuck once, more over, it ran over a charging cable without eating it or shredding it to pieces. And with its height of less than 4 inches it is going under furniture without the need to lift anything. Roomba also comes with a little virtual barrier that you can turn on to create a virtual wall that Roomba can’t cross or set it up to make a halo to protect a small area of about 4 feet from being approached by Roomba (useful in case of pet food, drinking water). I asked Roomba to end cleaning using Google assistant so it stopped and asked me if I wanted it to go back to its charging base which I agreed to, and it's magic! Roomba went back to its dock and started charging again. I am super satisfied by this Roomba, and I can say it's a perfect addition to any small apartment with pets in it. The app can schedule Roomba to run different programs 7 days a week.
Overall I found that this unit clean the floors and rugs extremely well. Better than my upright. Here are some things I've learned. Even though it is relatively low profile it has gotten stuck under my couch and dresser. However, it does clean in tight areas under furniture given sufficient clearance that I don't normally clean that often. I found that the battery does not last the claimed 90 minutes nor does it know when to return to the charging station when the battery level is low so it just dies wherever. The phone app is unreliable primarily due to losing the wi-fi connection to the unit. I found doing selective room cleaning to be best by closing doors and limiting the area where it cleans. I wouldn't leave it running unattended until you get familiar with where it could get stuck. I would minimize clutter or other items on the floor that it could get caught on such as shoes laces or appliance wires, etc. While not as noisy as my upright, there is a constant sound level that some may find disturbing. One can still talk on the phone while it is running. Hey it has a motor… Navigation looks totally dumb as it will go over the same area a few times, but then one is assured that the area is clean. No matter I am happy with the vacuum as it saves me the time from dragging out the upright and from manually vacuuming. Instead I can be doing other things while it is working away!Mike
We bought the 690 expecting quite a bit, and have been let down for the most part. Easy to operate and reasonably easy to clean, roomba cleans well – where it cleans. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to its navigation, however, as we've found roomba to spend a lot of time retracing steps in some areas, very little time in others, and none at all in done- all randomly (it seems). When sending roomba home: Roomba has only found its way back to the home dock once in over 30 uses- the other times it spends so long wandering the battery runs out. I find it surprising that roomba doesn't know how to get to where it started- it seems to not be keeping track of anything- just wandering until hopefully it covers everything by accident (which it doesn't). I even tested by keeping it within one single room/ the one time it found its way home- but it took over 30 minutes to find the dock which was about 15 feet away- I watched sadly as the roomba seemed to be randomly wandering again until it basically stumbled upon the home base. Note- I followed all user and tech support instructions on home base placement – against wall, wide open space not near vents or any other devices… I've contacted support with these problems and after spending significant time repeating their scripted support steps (about home base placement and other basics that I had already covered from the start), they have no answer but "it should get better as you use it." 30+ runs later, no improvement. I may try one of the competitor robots that get good ratings for mapping and related features. I wouldn't recommend this 690 to anyone.

We purchased this Roomba, after owning one from another brand and becoming frustrated. We were tired of it missing spots constantly, getting stuck, and only cleaning one spot until the battery died. We decided to spend the extra money as Roomba is the "Gold Standard". When we got the robot, it took about 3.5 hours to map our house, and when looking at the map it seemed fairly accurate. Now, every time we send it out to clean a certain room, it usually ends up lost on its way to the room, or on its way back home. It is constantly getting stuck under the table and chairs, and getting stuck on the ledge of the sliding door. The solution to this is to spend MORE money on a virtual wall? For the price point of this product, this is all unacceptable. Don't get me wrong, when I follow it around and move every chair and table out of its way, the thing does a great job. Good suction and doesn't leave much behind. But for all that effort, I could just use a traditional vacuum. So, for the price, I cannot say I am impressed. Nor would I recommend the product. I will most likely be returning mine if possible.
Had mine for a couple of years now. Not as pleased as I would have hoped. It does seem to effectively clean the areas covered. However, the "intelligence" of the unit is GREATLY overstated. It constantly gets stuck on the rails of my patio slider doors and can't seem to figure out that maybe it should avoid these. Supports suggestion was to PURCHASE the area avoidance sensors. It sends me a message (on my iPhone) that it's stuck but I get NO audible notification, so unless I am actually looking at my phone I don't know it's stuck. All notifications for the app are enabled on my iPhone. Support said this was a problem with my iPhone yet I get notifications from all other apps. It's mapping is not reliable as I can sit and watch it go over the exact same spot 5 or 6 times. i.e. it will do the spot in front of our couch, then move to the kitchen, then come right back to the couch and go over the same spot again. We have it set to clean approximately 1500 Sqft and it takes 4-5 hours to complete. Much noisier than I expected. Lately it is providing an error that claims "The Robot Base Needs Your Attention" but does NOT identify specifically what is the problem (seems to evacuate OK, bag is NOT full). Submitted issue to support and they sent out a new base, but it does the same thing. Have followed cleaning instructions for sensors in the base and the robot but nothing seems to address this issue. While it IS nice to NOT have to manually vacuum, the fact that it takes 5 hours is a disappointment. I can pull out the manual vac and do the job in about 30 minutes. It says it's MAPPING but does not really seem to know where it is at. It just seems to roam randomly around the house until it bumps into things. I expected more.
This Roomba is a complete waste of money. It cleans just okay. My old, cheaper Roomba 655 used to have a completely FULL bin after vacuuming. This new and supposedly improved model barely has anything in the bin when it finishes cleaning the same space. Speaking of the bin, it is the ABSOLUTE WORST part of this Roomba. It constantly says it is full, even when it isn't. The hair, dust, etc. that is vacuumed doesn't fully transfer to the bin but sits inside the vacuum, falsely making the Roomba think it is full. My old Roomba that I bought nearly 6 years ago worked a MILLION times better untl it finally died. I could have had it repaired for around $100 but instead chose to purchase a new one. What a HUGE, incredibly regreftul mistake on my part. I loved my old Roomba and raved about it so much over the years that many of my friends were convinced to buy one as well. Now, I am sad to say, my Roomba is one of my most hated electronics in my smart home. I use it because I can't afford a new one right now (I saved for months to buy the i3), but I am literally NEVER satisfied with it. Not one single vacuum job it does meets my expectation. iRobot should discontinue this model immediately – it is ruining the company's reputation. I don't know that I would even bother buying a different Roomba model after my awful experience with the i3.

I got this on sale from Target after watching its price for a while. This seems to be the best combination of (relative) affordability and performance on the market from the professional review sites I looked at beforehand. Taking it home and running it, I found that it actually performs much better than my old upright vacuum with zero hassle. I have it vacuuming areas of tile, utility carpet, and medium carpet in my 1200 sqft apartment. It does an excellent job with all of these surfaces. If I have it vacuum the whole place, it does need to charge about mid-way and maybe empty a couple times in the middle, which I think is reasonable considering that we have a dog and it is picking up a bunch of hair each time. Regarding specific gripes in other reviews: yes, the emptying sound is loud (but not jet engine, more like the volume of a regular vacuum) but only lasts a few seconds. I find that it picks up dog hair pretty well. It also handles thresholds/rug edges fine at about 1cm. It bumps into things when learning, of course, but not with much force contrary to some reviews. As for the learning, it didn't take much for it to master my oddly-shaped layout between the rooms and the furniture in them. I definitely would spring for the base instead of just getting the bot. That way you can truly start it and forget about it instead of having to manually empty a few times as it putters around. Overall: 100% recommend with no regrets and I wish I had gotten one sooner.thebandageman
I bit the bullet and upgraded from a dumb robot vacuum (ecovacs N7) to this smart robot vacuum because it was on sale for $200 off MSRP. Three months later and I've been completely satisfied with the upgrade. Thanks to the mapping feature on the J7 I was able to replace 2 existing vacuums and know that my entire upstairs got cleaned. The old vacuum would get stuck in a room because it couldn't find the door and keep cleaning the same area till it ran out of power. The self emptying dust bin is a great time saver and means less maintenance each week. The sensors and programming are much better at keeping the J7 from getting stuck and having to be rescued. I'm not thrilled about sharing my floorplan and cleaning schedules with iRobot, or any company. The roombas are very expensive. Even more expensive if you have multiple floors and need daily cleaning in all areas and have to get multiple vacuums. It's brushes will leave a few little twists of felted up hair behind if you have pets, long hair, or both so it's not a pristine clean unless you have it do a deep clean every time. However, I am more than willing to deal with those negatives for all the benefits that this robot vacuum offers over my old robot vacuums. If you want to see if a robot vacuum is for you I'd suggest getting a cheap one to try with for a year or two. No robot vacuum is perfect or capable of competing with a traditional vacuum. If you can accept the compromises though and find them beneficial then I would highly recommend getting this model when it's on sale. I can't say if it's really worth it over other models at the full MSRP though.JoshuaNormal
It's a good little machine, but the suction isn't stellar. Even the one of the Self-Empty base isn't very good. I have a Roomba for my Birds to pick up stray seeds that fell out, and it often misses some, and on the self empty base- most seeds stay behind inside the Roomba-Canister. I also do not like, that you can not set roomba to do criss cross vacuuming like another Brand I know. Meaning, setting it for an extra thorough clean, where it first goes the room lengthwise and a second round side to side. The only thing that made me decide for the Roomba after trying that other Brand is, the app works really well. You can set different schedules for different days and Roomba works well with Alexa, and notifies you of any issues or completed jobs. The other Brand, with a unstable, constantly crashing app, not working well with Alexa and most of all the very limited scheduling capabilities- had phenomenal mapping and exceptional cleaning capability and no vaccume bag needed (Hepa Filter with removable easy dump cannister on the charging Station. BUT not having a good app, limited scheduling capability would have made it a little less useful and more of a headache in the long run. So I decided for the Roomba. It does take amusing pictures and I still love and enjoy my little Roomba. Maybe my CON's will be PRO's down the Road when those things are improved and I will certainly opt for that newer Generation. Til then my little guy will be good enough, just not perfect yet- overall still a good little Robot to have.

Significant improvements from the i7, still not sure if we'll keep it past the 60 day trial period. The good: app is easy to use and has great features for dividing and naming rooms. The robot will recharge and then continue cleaning small jobs, whole house, or anything in between. It's smart and learns how much time rooms take and adjusts charging times accordingly. Roomba's dual rubber brushes still do a better job on carpet than the traditional brush rollers everyone else uses. The bad: sometimes the map takes wonky shapes that don't look like your house. Even so, it still seems to clean everywhere and after a few days modifies the map to look more realistic. There are still a couple spots on our map that look funky, but it hasn't taken away from actually cleaning everywhere. The ugly: front caster wheel started squeaking on the third day of use; they're sending us a replacement wheel that will hopefully solve this problem. Customer support and response through email was quite good. On a few occasions the robot tried to dock sideways but corrected itself. One time it docked just crooked enough (photo attached, notice red error light on base) that it wouldn't charge or empty itself; it did send an error message saying it needed our help. Our biggest gripe that might make us return it for a refund is that even with a well defined and established map for several weeks, it still bumps into furniture, walls, etc too hard, so hard that it actually moves lighter pieces of furniture such as plant stands. Roomba, how about a software update to soften these blows? Pro tip: do NOT do a mapping run when you first get the robot, because that makes it hit everything even harder. Just do normal cleaning and accept the fact it will take 2-3 complete runs before the map is complete. Bottom line: competitors with LiDAR map quicker and more accurately, but iRobot's performance is consistently good with just a few quirks. The biggest drawback is how hard it hits things.

I purchased the J7 after I decided to retire my few years old Roborock S4 to the basement and get some newer technology. If the J7 was my first robot vacuum purchase I would probably be happy. But when compared to my previous one this has too many annoying problems. Let me start with what it does better. First, it really is a good-looking vacuum. Much nicer than the homely S4. Next, the amount of pet hair and dirt it collects is at least 30% better than the S4. So isn't that what a vacuum is supposed to do? Vacuum? Why 3 stars? Because it only finishes a cleaning job 50% of the time. Reviewing the last 30 cleaning jobs on the app, only 14 finished. There are way too many issues that require my intervention to get a finished job. It sucks up objects it is supposed to avoid, brushes get stuck with pet hair, doesn't dock properly so not charged for next job, strands itself because it didn't recognize no-go zone, etc. It is rare I need to help along the S4 except to empty the much larger dust bin or clean the washable filter (which the Roomba does not have). I wouldn't say I totally regret this purchase but given the opportunity to do it again I would go with another Roborock. BTW, as I write this review the Roomba has not cleaned in 6 days while I wasn't home. Battery was dead sitting on the charging dock.BretLee

I had a first generation Roomba several years ago and was always amazed at the amount of dirt and hair it picked up. With several pets in the house, hair is always an issue. I run it every morning while I am eating breakfast/reading emails. It gets around the whole house and finds its way home when the battery gets low. I have thin Ruggable carpets that it goes over easily and thoroughly. It notifiies me on my phone when it is in trouble. Buddy is our very first household iRobot Roomba. We purchased this unit from Sam's Club back in December 2018 and at that time, the latest model was the i7. We decided on this model, because we didn't need additional features like the floor mapping and the auto emptying bin. We liked that this was wifi-capable and that it worked with our Google Home smart devices. We have been diligent in keeping Buddy clean after every use. He is scheduled to vacuum and clean the floor every other day. A Couple of Cons: 1. Sometimes he gets lost and can't find his home base, but that's because his home base was located where there were a lot of obstacles in the way. So we moved his charging home base to a better location and he hasn't had any problems finding it when his battery is low. 2. Buddy sometimes misses spots, but it's not a deal-breaker. Nothing that a second-run can't fix. 3. He has no problems cleaning rugs and carpets, but he truly hates our plush, fluffy rug (lol – there is another term for this rug, but the iRobot site flagged the term… good grief). So, we got rid of that rug. Problem solved. It is only this year that we decided to get the latest model – the s9 and m6 bundle. We are so impressed with Buddy that we did not hesitate to invest in other iRobot models for the house.Nicole
This is our first robot vacuum, and it was purchased to replace an old upright. We keep a pretty clean house, but some dirt and hair is shed daily. The allure of this product was daily cleaning without anyone needing to take the time to manage the vacuuming. A few things to appreciate: our relatively small home is covered by the vacuum which works its way around or under our furniture with relative ease in about 45 minutes, the app is intuitive, and the wireless connection allows setting up a cleaning job away from home and monitoring progress if you feel the need for such things. If you only have non-carpeted spaces and no pets, this is likely a good vacuum for your needs. Unfortunately, overall this robot vacuum doesn't work as advertised. We have an Australian Shepherd whose dog fur is picked up, wrapped up with other pieces of fur and then deposited in clumps on all carpeted surfaces (except for the pieces that are wrapped around the dual rubber brushes). This means we have to walk around after the job finishes to clean up clumps of knotted dog hair. I purchased a Roomba 692 on 1221622021, 02/08/22, the side brush stopped working. Of course it's past the 30 day Amazon return period, so after a painful hold time of 40 minutes, the young customer service tech says she will send me a replacement part. I tell her I am worried about this hunk of junk breaking down every month, I mean one of the components didn't even last 2 months. So Irobot sends a a Roomba 675, no instructions, 35 minutes with irobot tech support because it wont connect to my internet, he tells me to reset my phone and that he would call me back in 5 minutes, guess what he never called me back. I research 675, you can't even buy it..Did Irobot swindle me, I paid more than this replacement is worth, but come to think of it, these irobots are nothing but hunk of junks. I will NEVER recommend these products to anyone. oh and thanks for the printed manual for an outdated model, NOT, this company couldn't even send me a manual.Krystyna
My husband got me the Roomba 675 for Christmas and OMG…by FAR my favorite gift!!! I love this little thing. We have mostly hardwood floors and a few area rugs along with a shedding Labrador retriever. This little roomba, sent out once a day for a half hour, has been amazing! My house has never been more consistently presentable. For those who want it to. For those that want a Roomba to deep vacuum their house, be aware, this is not a deep vacuum cleaner, BUT it is the best sweeper I've ever seen, to include using my broom and dust pan (which I used to have to do at least every other day just to keep my floors from looking like a quarry). The Roomba picks up 90 to 95 percent of the tracked in gravel, sand, pieces of grass, maple tree helicopters, spilled cereal, dropped toast crumbs, dog hair, dust, coffee grounds…the list goes on and on. So yeah, I HIGHLY recommend this product, just be aware, you do still have to actually vacuum your rugs etc with an actual vacuum cleaner periodically, but wow…for day to day tidying up? Yeah, I know it a machine, but honestly, I am already very fond of it! It isn't very loud either, I mean it does make some noise, it is an electronic sweeper after all, but I can easily watch the news at normal volume or listen to music without it bothering me while it goes around d and does chores that I would have otherwise had to do myself. LOVE IT! Adding…it does help the roomba to pick up your shoes and to pull the chairs out from under the dining room table a bit, but that is a small price to pay in my opinion to have a hardwood floor that is 'guest presentable ' at any given time. I do live in a single story home, 2400 sq. Feet, but even this basic model of roomba seems to be learning my homes layout, and if I want it to go somewhere else, I just block it with my foot and off it goes in a new direction. I use this product in my 612 SF condo to remove hair, debris, crumbs and flour dust from baking, and general "carpet crud" for maintenance cleaning between deep cleans with an upright vac. For its first runs, it took the full 90 minutes, and Roomba's brush picked up a lot of hair (I have long hair that gets everywhere). I noticed that the time to finish a run decreased after the initial few runs – so Roomba takes less time to work when it's working on a cleaner surface. Maintenance is quick/easy on the Roomba, compared to the Dyson DC65 upright vac I use for deep cleaning. The Roomba brush is easily removed when emptying the dust bin (which is done after every use) and cleaned in < 5 mins vs. >20 on the upright vac – with no belt to replace. (The Dyson brush frequently tangles with hair, causing belt to slip against the trapped hair, burning the belt and stopping the brush assembly. It takes 20 minutes to to open the brush assembly and clear the brush – 40 minutes to pull the brush to clear the roller completely and reinstall – or an hour to replace the belt, clean the brush and reinstall.) My Dyson maintenance will be easier now; future deep cleans won't be pulling up surface hair and debris. Roomba doesn't completely clean into square corners because it is round, and doesn't clean in areas too narrow for its diameter; but it does a much better job than the Dyson D65 upright on straight edges and baseboards; does a fantastic job under furniture; and isn't fazed by desk pads or low area rugs. If it can't get over something, it will go around it. If it gets stuck, the iHome app sends a text. While much quieter than an upright vac, Roomba does make noise. In multi-story buildings, if floors and ceilings aren't soundproofed, impact (bumping) and airborne (machine operation) sounds can be heard on other floors. My Roomba was running at 4:15 AM (instead of the intended PM) and the noise was waking my downstairs neighbor; this was easily corrected in the iHome App.

While the vaccine has its weaknesses it cleans better than we did before we purchased it. We have 5 carpets with tassels or fringes. The Rumba loves to get caught on these and runs till the battery runs out. So we move the smaller carpets and the 16 X 20 silk carpet is adjusted so the Rumba can not clean it. We simply turn the edges over so the machine can not climb on it. Then we vaccine that rug the old fashioned way. The filter works so well it is hard to believe. We ran the Rumba all over the house and left for a week long trip. When we got home we ran the Rumba again and it picked up the dust. The filter was clean except for a bunch of dust. The product was cranky when trying to hook it up to the app. Since I have to move it between 3 levels of the house I just don't bother with the app. Fortunately I am still able to get up and walk to the device and push a button. I do not need to depend on Google or Alexa. The bad reviews I read were from a bunch of people with unrealistic expectations. As an aside the vaccine does not actually learn your house because when you use it again it has to learn it again. But it does remember where it left off if it needs to go home to recharge and then it starts where it left off.lukeman5433
These robots are useless after a year. The first year I had it, it worked really well. I maintained it, cleaned it, and charged it regularly. Before the first year was up, I filed the warranty because it stopped picking up anything. Now, a year later, its repeating the same thing but iRobot was very comfortable telling me to spend a minimum of $110 to repair the useless hunk of metal and plastic. Or the other option was to spend $200 to buy the lower end models. For something that initially cost me $350, this should last me as long as a Dyson but its a complete waste of money. I also got this because I have severe allergies so if I dont regularly vacuum daily, I get allergy attacks. I thought this would address but instead, I just ended up wasting my time. Im very disappointed that as a responsible user who put trust in something as expensive as this product, my whole investment went down the drain in less than 2 years. This purchase was to replace an original 960 bought new from iRobot when it was a flagship model. I am reviewing the second, replacement for the refurbished 960 I purchased from the eBay store. The first one was so bad and had so many faults and problems including not being able to dock that I requested a refund the next day. I gave it a second chance and ordered another one while waiting for the return and refund. It is maybe only 40% defective, but it will function and dock. It will not stop cleaning and return to the base as programmed for bin emptying until the extractor discharge shoot is full and dumps on the floor requiring hand clean out each time. It is incapable of driving over any throw rug or carpet runner without getting it pulled into the extractor rollers and hanging it up, it lacks the intelligence to free it's self from these obstacles like the original did.tgblair

For the price, this is a good entry-level robotic vacuum. It's not a good option if you're hoping for a deep clean, and it will never get into the tightest crevasses, but for a daily sweep or spot clean it is actually pretty handy. You can set it and forget it when heading out for work or let it loose in a specific room. It's noisy on bare floors but reasonably quiet on carpets. The rollers and dust bin must be cleaned out regularly, but it does get under beds and couches, which I appreciate a lot – less bending for me. If you have an open concept home you may wish to purchase "virtual wall" room dividers from iRobot to keep the Roomba constrained to specific areas (available online). At the end of the day, it's kind of like owning a blind, rather stupid dog that runs into furniture constantly while scarfing up crumbs and dust bunnies. We named ours Poltergust 3000.TFrancois

This Christmas Cindy gave me a Roomba. I've been hectored by allergies all my life and yet we have two dogs who eject hair and dander like lawn sprinklers. Her idea was that the thing would keep the house clear of pestilential allergens. "Uh, thanks, I guess," was my enthusiastic response. There was no way this steroidal hockey puck was anything but a gimmick. I turned it on and it proceeded to recochet off the walls and furniture like a pinball. Archie the Ratter attacked, broadcasting more sinus irritants as he went into fight-or-flight mode. Undeterred, the bot skittered haphazardly over hard and carpeted surfaces and after awhile Archie and I forgot about it. A couple hours later I noticed it had docked on its little charger. I thought it was cool that it found its home after wandering aimlessly over the living room, kitchen, mudroom and central hallway. I went to empty the gizmo and was surprised to find it full of compacted dust bunnies and Archie debris. The rugs and hickory floor looked pretty good to boot. I waited a few hours and ran it again, and again the thing was full of stuff. I did this over and over until it came up empty. My rugs and hardwood floors were pristine. I ran it in the bedrooms where it wandered where we never venture – under the beds, where armies of dust bunnies gathered and hunkered over the years, regularly sending out patrols in search of my sinuses. Roomba has vanquished them. And I am a junkie. If I wasn't so lazy I'd vacuum every day. But I am lazy and don't. Roomba, on the other hand, is energetic. tireless and smart. My allergies are moderating. Now I need a lawnba, cookba, unpackallthestufffrommovingtothishouseba, robocallsba, junkmailba and enough other bas to eliminate all the annoyances of arduous American middle class life. Our roomba worked great… at first. About 6 months in it started being finicky and eventually moved on to bothersome. By about the 10 month mark we were cleaning sensors, vacuuming it out, and tinkering with it non stop. At month 13 it stopped altogether and we called irobot. We wasted hours on hold, explaining and re-explaining, and even taking videos only to have them deny any help. My wife explained that we hadn't even been using it for a year because I had bought it on Black Friday and she opened it Christmas morning. They had the audacity to tell her I should have bought it closer to Christmas. They "offered" to have someone try to fix it for $130 which I have to assume was the full freight. I bought this vacuum 2 years ago. My house is a busy place where dirt is tracked in daily. This machine is used daily and has greatly increased the cleanliness of our house. Naturally it makes me very happy to have a helper that does the sweeping and vacuuming daily for me! The machine did stop charging for a while until I googled the problem. All Roomba's need the charging sensors underneath the machine cleaned and the dirt sensor under the brushes cleaned every 3 months. After cleaning the sensors (as well as vacuuming the filter) the Roomba was ready to roll. Great product that I highly recommend.esend

Significant improvements from the i7, still not sure if we'll keep it past the 60 day trial period. The good: app is easy to use and has great features for dividing and naming rooms. The robot will recharge and then continue cleaning small jobs, whole house, or anything in between. It's smart and learns how much time rooms take and adjusts charging times accordingly. Roomba's dual rubber brushes still do a better job on carpet than the traditional brush rollers everyone else uses. The bad: sometimes the map takes wonky shapes that don't look like your house. Even so, it still seems to clean everywhere and after a few days modifies the map to look more realistic. There are still a couple spots on our map that look funky, but it hasn't taken away from actually cleaning everywhere. The ugly: front caster wheel started squeaking on the third day of use; they're sending us a replacement wheel that will hopefully solve this problem. Customer support and response through email was quite good. On a few occasions the robot tried to dock sideways but corrected itself. One time it docked just crooked enough (photo attached, notice red error light on base) that it wouldn't charge or empty itself; it did send an error message saying it needed our help. Our biggest gripe that might make us return it for a refund is that even with a well defined and established map for several weeks, it still bumps into furniture, walls, etc too hard, so hard that it actually moves lighter pieces of furniture such as plant stands. Roomba, how about a software update to soften these blows? Pro tip: do NOT do a mapping run when you first get the robot, because that makes it hit everything even harder. Just do normal cleaning and accept the fact it will take 2-3 complete runs before the map is complete. Bottom line: competitors with LiDAR map quicker and more accurately, but iRobot's performance is consistently good with just a few quirks. The biggest drawback is how hard it hits things.
It's a good little machine, but the suction isn't stellar. Even the one of the Self-Empty base isn't very good. I have a Roomba for my Birds to pick up stray seeds that fell out, and it often misses some, and on the self empty base- most seeds stay behind inside the Roomba-Canister. I also do not like, that you can not set roomba to do criss cross vacuuming like another Brand I know. Meaning, setting it for an extra thorough clean, where it first goes the room lengthwise and a second round side to side. The only thing that made me decide for the Roomba after trying that other Brand is, the app works really well. You can set different schedules for different days and Roomba works well with Alexa, and notifies you of any issues or completed jobs. The other Brand, with a unstable, constantly crashing app, not working well with Alexa and most of all the very limited scheduling capabilities- had phenomenal mapping and exceptional cleaning capability and no vaccume bag needed (Hepa Filter with removable easy dump cannister on the charging Station. BUT not having a good app, limited scheduling capability would have made it a little less useful and more of a headache in the long run. So I decided for the Roomba. It does take amusing pictures and I still love and enjoy my little Roomba. Maybe my CON's will be PRO's down the Road when those things are improved and I will certainly opt for that newer Generation. Til then my little guy will be good enough, just not perfect yet- overall still a good little Robot to have.
I purchased the J7 after I decided to retire my few years old Roborock S4 to the basement and get some newer technology. If the J7 was my first robot vacuum purchase I would probably be happy. But when compared to my previous one this has too many annoying problems. Let me start with what it does better. First, it really is a good-looking vacuum. Much nicer than the homely S4. Next, the amount of pet hair and dirt it collects is at least 30% better than the S4. So isn't that what a vacuum is supposed to do? Vacuum? Why 3 stars? Because it only finishes a cleaning job 50% of the time. Reviewing the last 30 cleaning jobs on the app, only 14 finished. There are way too many issues that require my intervention to get a finished job. It sucks up objects it is supposed to avoid, brushes get stuck with pet hair, doesn't dock properly so not charged for next job, strands itself because it didn't recognize no-go zone, etc. It is rare I need to help along the S4 except to empty the much larger dust bin or clean the washable filter (which the Roomba does not have). I wouldn't say I totally regret this purchase but given the opportunity to do it again I would go with another Roborock. I gave my two year old roomba to my daughter and bought this one to replace it. I ran my older roomba twice over my house then ran the new roomba. The new roomba's bin was half full which prooved this model cleans better. It was very easy to set up and is controlled by an app. I've ran this roomba for some time now and I am 100% satified. I bought this in 2018. It has worked less than half the time since then. I am constantly trouble shooting issues. Currently have an error 11 that I cannot seem to resolve and of course it now recommends purchasing another battery. The replacement parts have already cost a fortune to keep the thing running as little as it does and the new battery they want me to purchase is $100. So, as of this date I've tried: AnotherBrandE30; Roomba e6; Roomba 985; and Roomba i7. This Roomba e6 is the surprising winner! Frankly, Lil Bubba bounces around in an annoyingly random manner — but man he sucks up the dirt! Better than the 985, and the i7 so far as I can see. Here's the challenge: average sized home, three *curses* carpeted bedrooms. Rest of home is tile or hardwood. A long history of being owned by animals (four-legged, domesticated type). Essentially, a giant petri dish of year-round allergens. Roomba e6: Simple, hardest-working, effective. Yes, he lacks a rational mapping program. So, yes, he will bounce around seemingly randomly, to clean the space. I will say in his defense that when he finds a wall or senses an edge, he will run along it, and follow for example, a tight turn around furniture legs, etc. So there is some "logic" of a kind. But this guy is sturdy which is why I love him so. He has *never* registered "dirty sensors,* he keeps ploughing through even when his little wheels are all wrapped up in pet hair (do clean them regularly!), and never gets lost or stuck anywhere. He just works hard, returns home and docks himself. No fanfare — I LOVE MY LIL BUBBA! He cleans like a mother-on-a-mission! The first time I ran him through the master it took only ten minutes for his bin to fill (head bowed in shame). There was pet hair in there that must have been left by two pet-generations ago! He just kept at it. Keep in mind, this carpet had been "cleaned" by conventional vacuums prior to buying these irobots! Ten runs later, he had cleaned down to the underlay for the full hour! But here's the thing — because he lacks a mapping program, he works best if contained in a specific space. So, set up the sensors to keep him confined to one room at a time and he'll be fine. I own a Roomba 690 and decided to give the e5 5150 a shot. Overall, thoughts are "meh". If you already have a Roomba, keep it – this seems like a re-branded 890. If it is more, they need to market it better focusing on what's "better." The Weak Points: Battery – The product description for the e5 5150 is slightly misleading. First sentence says "The auto-recharging…" does NOT mean it knows "battery is low, go back and charge, then finish the job". What it does mean is if the battery doesn't die out during the regular clean job, it'll go to the charger when it's done. So far out of 7 cleans, 3 has resulted in it going back to the charger. My 600 series lasted just as long (if not longer), so – battery is weak/not improved since my 600 series. "Wi-Fi® Connected" and "App" features are lame – you get to press a green button from your phone to start a job. That's it. No house map, no detailed job completion information, nothing. Going back to the above point about the battery dying before it goes to recharge – a neat thing is you can see on your phone, while you're at work, that the Roomba died in the middle of cleaning, isn't recharging, and you can't do anything about it remotely. The "history details" (are in quotes because they) aren't details. You get 5 data points: Date, duration of the clean, time started, status, and dirt detect count. You can't tap on any of those data points for more details, can't see a map of the house to see where it cleaned, etc. Strengths: The difference from the 600 series to this series is the better brush (no more bristles, no hair gets tangled, etc.), better filter (MUCH better, easy to clean), and lower noise (WAY quieter than the 600 series, quieter than a regular vacuum). Bottom line: If you don't own a Roomba, this is a good entry model & decent price. If you own a Roomba, keep it or save for the top of the line one that has the REAL auto-recharge feature and wifi house map feature.

I purchased this vacuum to assist me with maintaining my home. It first took a couple of times to get an accurate map of my home. I have approx. 1500 sq ft of floor to clean. The first problem I had was the Shark would get lost attempting to get back to the charging station. Secondly the vacuum could not clean in only one charge and when it did find its way back to the charging station it took several hours to recharge. Afterwards it would return to where it left off and continue cleaning, however the problem here is if it didn't finish the job the second time it would return to its charging station but would not return to the point it left off after charging for a third run. The unit would miss some rooms completely on a one scheduled run but find the room on another scheduled run days later but in the process miss a different room. Software wouldn't always produce a map of where the vacuum had cleaned. Emptying the dust bin is somewhat of a challenge as well. There is a flange that covers half of the filter screen on the inside of the dust bin. I found it difficult to clean the screen with this flange in place. Need to remove the flange to clean or shark needs to provide a small brush that will fit between the flange and the screen for cleaning. The vacuum ability to clean did seem to work well but this is not a unit you can turn on and then leave without supervision.Will
I bought this a year ago and barely got it to work once. It did not clean well. It doesn't get up against the wall. It doesn't "see" table legs so it constantly runs into furniture. I have Queen Anne style furniture with the feet on the end of the legs. It doesn't see the feet and runs right over them. Occasionally it gets stuck on them. The last time I used it, it kept getting stuck and thought something was underneath the robot. After that, it quit charging. I had called Shark after the first use and they wouldn't help me without installing the app on my cell phone. Sorry, but I don't want to have to use an app to run my vacuum. Life got in the way and I didn't get them called back until 1 week after the warranty expired. They did some troubleshooting and finally said I just need a new vacuum and they refuse to replace it. I won't be getting a Shark for sure. They used to be a good company but not anymore. Don't waste your money on this unit. I paid less than $200 for it and it was not worth it.Susan
The Shark AI Robot Vacuum is a valuable timesaving device, I absolutely love it! My only experience with a robot vacuum was an inferior product that my parents had years ago. They quit using it after a month because it was loud and would ping pong around their furniture, never fully cleaning a entire room. Needless to say, I was skeptical about the effectiveness of this piece of equipment, but I have been happily surprised and impressed by my new favorite home cleaning addition. Set up was pretty straightforward and it didn't take long to implement the room mapping technology. The laser vision and IQ navigation combine to react and respond to your home's layout. It's amazing how well it follows patterns and cleans in a precise manner while navigating around obstacles, no-go zones, and cliff hazards (such as my stairs). It's fun to watch it self-correct and get back on task if there's something left in it's path. The suction is powerful, yet isn't overly noisy; I'm able to go about my routine without being disturbed. The brush roll is self-cleaning, which is a huge plus as someone with very long hair. In the past, my hair would get tangled around my rollers and it was a tedious process of taking breaks in my cleaning process to cut it away. This is awesome because it eliminates the dreaded hair wrap. Most impressive is the level of cleaning it achieves. I was shocked at the amount of debris it removed from my floors and was kinda grossed-out at what my previous vacuum left behind. I've been considering getting new carpet in two of my rooms, but this Shark miracle restored them to a beautiful appearance I didn't think was possible. When you find something that saves you so much time and money, it's easy to recommend to others. My neighbor is putting it on her wish list after seeing my results. I purchased this unit yesterday for the 2nd floor of my home. I have removed all of the carpet throughout and just have ceramic tile on the 1st floor and vinyl plank on the 2nd floor. Purchased this i4 for the 2nd floor and only use it in my bedroom right now. After 18 minutes of use (the time it took to vacuum my bedroom), it redocked. Decided to try out the Google command to vacuum again 15 minutes later and received error 26 that I needed to remove debris. There was next to no debris in it as I had vacuumed manually prior to the 1st run. I haven't been able to get the error to go away, even after washing out the bin and checking everything. I even tried the reboot to clear the error. Nothing works. Been trying to figure it out for hours. Shouldn't break after 18 minutes of light use!Travis
It is very convenient and I run it when I go to sleep. I set it to 45 mins to vacuum. The only think is that if there are a hay, threads that stuck on carpet, you have to help 'him' to loosen it from the carpet. Overall I m happy 'he' gets under my bed and suck/eat all the dust into 'his tummy'. Thank you for the invention. I will buy more coz 'he' saves me times to do the vacuuming chores. I absolutely love this Roomba! I set a schedule and it comes on and cleans without me worrying about starting it. It actually cleans a lot better than I thought I empty the tray every 2 days. I used to have to drag out the vacume every day to clean up mud and dirt my husband brings in on his shoes, but now Roomba does that for me! The only drawback is that it doesn't have a certain pattern it goes in. It may go in a room 10 timbers before it gets it clean. Occasionally it misses spots because of it. The robot goes around in circles within a 4-6 feet area. I need to be pushing or stopping and placing in another location for it to clean another area within the same room. This nifty contraption saves you from having to "Empty the Bin" every time I run my Roomba s9. The bin on the s9 actually fills up extremely quickly, so it's nice to be able to set-it-and-forget-it. The robot does its thing and goes back to empty itself when it needs to before finishing its job. The unit seems to have good build quality. My only complaint with this and the other Roomba bases is that the A/C plug that attaches the power cord to the back of the unit is really poorly designed and disconnects extremely easily. You really have to wiggle it to get it in place and then hold it there while you pray to your higher power that the darn thing won't disconnect from the back of the unit when you set the unit down on the floor, plug the unit in, push it up against the wall, or when something vibrates or walks by it. Really annoying. Good news is that it's now been plugged in for a few weeks and hasn't come unplugged again… yet.iamyourfather
We named ours Wilson and he’s a godsend. We have a high volume high traffic home and it’s so amazing to have him scheduled to clean before I walk in the door after a long day at work, to see clean floors. We did a test and used Wilson on our carpet then used our old vacuum to see what Wilson missed and there was next to nothing in the dust bin of our old vacuum! So impressed. I am not paid or given a free bot for this review. I researched for 4 months and settled on this model by Shark. I don't know why people are claiming that this robot marks walls it comes close but does not touch them in fact if it sees a object it slows down till it maneuvers around it. Everything advertised it does and does excellent. The app is very easy to use. People complain about the app but I think they are using cheap phones or tablets. I honestly have nothing negative to say about this unit, I watched tests between roombas and eufys and all the the robot vacuums that could self empty at twice to three times the shark was nothing is close. The main thing was all the other company's use Vslam and cameras for guidance they can not see in the dark and basically go in random action like a bump and go toy, Not this Shark that uses lidar which is a invisible rotating Laser for guidance it is perfect and works even in the dark. I had to laugh roombas latest self empty has a white spotlight led mounted above its camera so it can clean without bright sun or the lights on. So you can pay 1400.00 for the vslam spotlight robot or 500.00 for the shark and have 3yr vip warranty with latest tech and row by row cleaning, and individual room cleaning. I also want to point out that after it does a room row by row when it finishes that it goes all the way back around the border of that room. Suction power is excellent on max, but you can choose between eco, norm and max in the app. You can choose to have it go back to empty every 30 minutes and it will go right back where it left off. I never have had it not find the base or had to go find it. I know it can be frustrating when trying to decide on which robot vacuum to buy. One Year since purchase of our RV1101 (the 2502's previous generation model). I am completely satisfied with our Shark AI self emptying vacuum! 2 Labradors and a cat in our 2400sq foot home ensure that it has plenty of hair and dirt to contend with and it accomplishes its duties admirably. While the literature indicates "Up to 30 days" between emptying the base dirt receptacle, under these conditions that is a ridiculous expectation! Empty it daily until you determine for yourself how long it takes to fill it based on your actual home cleaning requirements if you have pet's in your home! That said, this is an incredibly good tool for keeping a home as clean as possible when shedding dogs are a part of your life. Other than emptying the dust bin every 1-2 days, it only requires washing the foam base filter once weekly and thoroughly cleaning the robot and base including vacuuming out the filters every 2-4 weeks. A truly minimal amount of time and effort required for a remarkable result. Getting "stuck" is a very rare occurrence if you follow the instructions for preparing your home. The "Empty and Resume" and "Recharge and Resume" features are what enable the Shark robot to accomplish it's duties in a home this size, Every day it's full cycle runs for over 4 hours to fully clean our home including 4 clean and dump cycles and a full recharge cycle (2 hours) after the 2nd dump following the first hour of operation. This includes the time it spends "Going Back" to clean any area where it expects to clean but may have been prevented from doing so on it's first attempt due to being obstructed by frequently moved furniture or a lazy old dog that refuses to move for "that pesky robot" (yes the old dog will just lay there despite being bumped repeatedly). All in all a fantastic cleaning machine! PS. Buy additional foam filters right away so you can have 2 in weekly rotation so you NEVER put a damp filter back in the base!krazybob
As soon as I received the Shark AI Robot Vacuum I wanted to set it up immediately in our open concept kitchen, dining and living area. All laminate flooring. I thought that the set-up might be a bit complicated for me but Shark has made the set-up and operation of this vacuum very user freindly. Even before opening the box, I was able to take my smart phone and scan the QRCode on the outside of the box and download the app. Step by step instructions guide you through the vaccum set-up process. (The most complicated task I had to do was go to my internet provider's app and enable the 2.4Ghz setting on our router, which is required for the Wifi connection) The set-up process includes sending the robot vacuum out for a mapping of the area to be cleaned. I was amazed that after just about 10 minutes the entire area was mapped out. Afterwards, I went to the app to look at the map and saw an accurate representation of my rooms, down to the footprint of a column seperating the rooms. The schedule tool allows for scheduling the vacuum to run whatever time, whatever day and however many days a week. It also records a history of those past scheduled cleanings and represents on the map the areas cleaned. I am definitely using the Ultraclean feature of the vacuum. This feature enables highlighting on the map, heavy traffic areas, or in our case the areas of the floor in front of the sink, around the island and the area in front of the stairs. The vacuum spends extra time cleaning these areas during the scheduled cleanings. I have also taken advantage of the spot cleaning feature. This feature enables you to highlight a spot on the map and have the vaccum clean only that spot without the vacuum doing an entire cleaning. After any cleaning that vacuum performs , the vacuum returns to the self empty base. Quite honestly, this Shark robot vacuum has too many features to list here in my review. The technology packed into this vacuum is amazing. Shark has developed an app that has all the support anyone could need. There is a printed instruction manual for viewing, there are seven videos available for viewing and there is the Shark Customer Care support available by phone.
