Purchased this sander over a year again. I have used the sander 3 times since and not always with the Extension piece on. While using to detail wooden shutters, the extension attachment piece broke off. After further investigation, I realized that the plastic had completely melted causing one of the plastic tabs to snap off. The plastic was also melted where the screw is located an order to switch out attachments. I would have Initially reviewed this sander as 4 stars. But after only using this sander less than a handful of times, I have to give it a 2.Lauren T
The issue with this sander is the design of the dust collection system. It connects so poorly that you can't sand without it falling off. The vibration of the sander shakes it off. Mine was not broken. It was brand new, the first time use. But the dust collector would not latch well enough to keep it in place when the sander was running. I fiddled with it for probably an hour, figuring out the system and trying to make it work. I couldn't. You can't hold it in place while it is operating due to its size. Within minutes – it simply shakes off. After screwing with it for too long, I just used it for the corners I needed without the filter, which left me a mess to clean up and a snoot full of dust. Really frustration. The quality of the product is well beneath Black and Decker. They should be ashamed.Ryan
I would have given this a 5 because it worked really well….until it didn't. I was using it to sand a coffee table to repaint. On the 2nd use of it – halfway through the whole head (the black part at the bottom of the orange part that holds the sand paper) just started to fall right off. Something in that must have snapped because there is no way I can put it back together. So, it was a great little sander, fit in the hand well, got the job (1/2 done) with minimal effort but sadly because it broke I can't give it more than a 2. I'm hoping the store will take it back as I didn't keep the box.Grace

I bought this knowing I would need to use it immediately. I had previously purchased the Brushless driver sets so, hey, a tool only sander is just fine. I've been eyeing an electric one for a while, but always wanted a battery orbital but the old 19.2 line only offered a pad sander. This thing is amazing. Like a pad sander, it sands. Unlike a pad sander, this thing gets your job done in about 1/4 of the time. The random orbits give that little extra that you would put in with a pad sander. The convenience of no cords doesn't hold you up as your buzzing forward on that door refinish. I also have used this for drywall sanding. It mimics the motion of a large circular pole sander, but allows you to increase or decrease your pressure right over the repair. Battery life is seemingly infinite with a 4Ah battery. But don't be discouraged, the compact 2Ah batteries have more than enough juice and bring the weight down. So, don't just SAND there, Random orbit your sanding, cordlessly!Ramfan84
I have the entire 20V set. I have had it for just under a year now. I find the batteries overall go dead super quick. I have 5 different batteries and I will go through them all in a day. They don't usually last much more than an hour with consistent use. I am already having to replace the orbital sander hook and loop pad. I used these tools daily. It will no longer hold sand paper of any kind, cheap, expensive, name brand or knock off, they all come flying off with in seconds. Kind of stinks for for $65 paper weight. I have too much invested to just trash them, but I am staring to use more Milwaukee M18 fuel products and they have a better batter like and product quality.

Give this sander a chance! I picked up this little sander five years ago and it has handled my small odd jobs very competently. Have never needed to replace the hook & loop pad in that time (unlike with other sanders I’ve used; looking at YOU, brand that rhymes with "Bill"…). A lone gripe is that the dust collector is held on by a tension-fit rubber ring, so if you bump it the thing goes flying. However, it catches a good quantity of the sawdust. THEN I got the bright idea to refinish my floor. Don’t worry, I rented a drum & edge sander for the bulk stripping of paint and finish – I’m not completely nuts. But I had to do some patching and only sanded up to an 80 grit with the rentals, and I was too cheap to rent the big guns a second time. So, I turned to my trusty Ryobi. In the course of this big project, my Ryobi was a CHAMP. It did 3-4 passes of my nearly 900 square feet of floor. I hooked it up to my shop vac for extra dust collection, but otherwise it was all the Ryobi. I had no business using this little sander to do a floor, but it powered through and is still going strong. When (if) it ever dies, I wouldn’t even think of getting a different sander. Great tool but the dust bag sprung a leak on the first day of using it to sand my deck. I don't remember snagging it on anything but now the dust blows through the hole until there's enough in there to clog the hole up. Probably could just tape it up but it's a little disappointing.Steve B

I bought this sander for ~$20 on Amazon and found it was a very good sander for that price. Many people have talked about the 'pre-punched' paper but I've had good luck with normal sheets cut into quarters. I found it fits fine in the clamps and is very similar to all other sanders in its class. It comes with a plastic plate to punch holes in the sand paper if you want it to suck up the dust. Honestly, all sanders make lots of dust and you should sand where dust doesn't matter. There's no sander in this price range w/o a vacuum attached that catches all the dust.Turlo Fiddleworth

I purchased this sander to replace a higher end brand orbital sander that only lasted about 2 years before the pad came apart. The price was low enough for me to take a chance and try it out. After doing some research, I did notice some confusion as the OPM's (orbits per minute) of this sander. The Canadian Tire description says 1600 OPM and other websites say 1400 OPM but the correct OPM rating is 14,000 OPM according to the label on my sander. When shopping for an orbital sander the OPM's is the biggest factor to determine how well it will sand. Too slow and it will take you longer to sand your material. As far as I know there are no 5" sanders on the market right now that would fall into the too fast category. This little B&D has a good OPM rating and was the main reason I bought it. After some use I found that it did a good job sanding hardwood with various grit sandpaper. There were a couple issues I had with it but not a deal breaker. First is the size of the top where you grasp it. I found that is was too large for comfort. I didn't mind the on/off system as being part of the palm grip but did find it too large overall. The other issue was with the removal and reattaching the dust bag. It has an o-ring that you have to push the bag onto and it can be a pain to push it on without applying a little lube to the o-ring first. Overall, this is a well made sander that sands quickly and catches most of the dust as no sander can ever catch 100% of the dust unless you attach a vacuum dust collector to it.ronbchamp
Bought this tool as one of my first woodworking tools. Worked fine in the beginning (As i wasn’t using it everyday) but once I started using it everyday it definitely didn’t hold up. Over heated, started squealing and eventually the motor died within 6 months of purchase. If you plan to use it frequently than i definitely suggest spending the extra for a reputable brand.Josh
I bought this sander and within a week the lock mechanism stopped working…when I turned the lock to the on position, it got stuck there and I had to unplug the sander to stop it. I was able to complete the job intended. I actually cut the nose off the upper front in order to sand my kitchen floor in the area where the cabinets overhang a few inches. It was quieter than I expected and easy to load the sand paper. The one drawback was that almost no dust was collected in the small collector bag that came with it, maybe because I messed up the air flow when I cut off the nose, even though I did tap the hole I had created. It also came with an adapter that could be hooked to a vacuum cleaner; I didn't get around to trying that option.dave_dave44

The WEN electric 1/3 sheet sander is one of those tools that is essential for every home workshop. This tool comes with a handy easy access "on" switch on top of the tool. It has a nice design with a paper clamp which locks the sandpaper in place. The kit comes with one piece of sandpaper and a dust collection bag. The bag is very easy to attach and empty. The sample paper was easy to attach with the Velcro design. The tool only weighs 3 pounds, so the sander is lightweight enough to handle during many types of sanding projects. The sander has a 1.2 amp motor which is plenty strong for household use. Looking for a decent sander for just home projects – this is not the one. Having done a lot of wood working over the years, I somehow thought that maybe Wen products had a bit more design rigor and quality control built into them, based on the description. I was wrong. The belt sander has very little lateral support and vibrates when sanding. The disc sander is actually a quarter inch out of being flat, so you end up sanding on a "bump". Don't be impressed by the "cast iron" base. This model is similar to a number of products being sold, and I suppose is made by one supplier. Invest another $75-$100 and go for the Porter Cable model or Rikon. You won't be disappointed. It is very difficult to buy a good woodworking product made in China – unless you select a brand that makes more than just bench top tools. Save your money and go for a better product. You will be happier in the long run and have a much better chance of re-sale.JRengr
The cartooned sander arrived, at my doorstep, ahead of scheduled delivery, was easy to set up and adjust. The belt needed adjustment to center its position on the rollers, which was easily done per owner's manual. Love the vacuum attachment port. This is one of those tools you can live without but once you have one you wonder how you ever did. Believe it or not there is a bit of a learning curve to really take advantage of how to use it. It will bring your work to the next level of Wow! Before I got this drum sander I thought my thickness planer and random orbital sander gave me good results. This sander gives my work that extra overall even sanding finish. Supermax support is also fantastic if you need them. And the Tegs guys are great to.Bentley
I'm impressed with the Laguna SuperMax 16/32 drum sander so far. I was able to assemble it by myself. I cut the box away, laid it on its side, removed some of the styrofoam, assembled and attached the stand, and then tilted the whole thing upright. I built a mobile base out of some 3/4 plywood and some casters I already had. The mobile base makes for an extra storage shelf that's just the right height for extra rolls, abrasive cleaner, etc. Final setup and zeroing was straight forward for me. It came very closely aligned from the factory. Changing grits requires some technique, but it was easier than I was expecting. There's a great video on YouTube by Half Inch Shy on drum sanding. Picked up a lot of knowledge watching it. Things like skewing the piece while dimensioning lumber was great to learn. Early results have exceeded expectations. Running a 20" wide table top through it was straight forward. I was able to remove a slight bow from a glueup with ease. Drum sanders do leave grooves in the wood, so it's not a full replacement for random orbital sanding. But it definitely cuts down on time and lets me dimension to an exact level I haven't been able to achieve on my planer alone. The optional table extensions aren't needed, but do help with my own workflow. I didn't buy them at first, but Acme made it quick and easy to purchase shortly after. The fact that Supermax is now owned by Laguna was a plus in my book. Laguna has been great to work with on warranty on other machines in my shop. Gives me peace of mind if I have issues with this down the road. For folks like me, drum sanders are a luxury. I could continue to get by without one. But now that I have one, it's hard to imagine working without it. It's refreshing to not have to worry about tear-out or snipe when doing final passes. And to not have to spend as long hand sanding. I'm happy with the Supermax 16/32 – if you're in the market for a drum sander, I'm betting you'll be too.

Very easy to use. I have a couple other Bauer tools so had a battery and charger. I bought to sand down a couple bar stools to repaint them. did the job. Had to use sandpaper and had to reach to tight spots. If you are using this for a short period of time the1.5 amp battery is fine. fully charged it lasted for about 30 minutes. If using for a longer period, I would recommend the 3 amp battery. I will purchase one of those any way as I now have 3 Baurer tools and it will be very helpful to have a little more power and length of use. For $35, I would recommend for sure.DJ from Shawnee
I needed to replace my corded random orbital sander. This was $10 less expensive than the corded sander, and I needed another battery anyway (I already use the Bauer 20V drills; they are great). Got this and a small battery ( I have the charger). Pros: Power: More than adequate power for this size/application. Size: Not bad, a bit unbalanced due to the battery but expected on a cordless sander. Ergonomics: Fine. Of course I occasionally push the "off" switch while maneuvering it. I do like the dust collector, that makes a great handle when 2 hands are needed. I don't have a dust collection system but I do notice the little bag collects a good bit of dust when using it. Of course there is still dust everywhere, but that's some I don't have to clean up. Cons: Battery life: My Bauer 20V drills last me all day, small or big battery in my home workshop under occasional use. This thing eats the battery! So have your extra batteries charged and ready. Price/Value: Great; if you already use the Bauer 20V tools for $30 this can't be beat.John in BHM
Good price compared to Ridgid or Dewalt and does the exact same thing those brands will do. However, if you already have batteries for another brand, maybe it is worth sticking with that same brand (I already had Baur batteries for my Baur Impact, so this was a no brainer). I used the 3.0Ah battery. Sander had good power and lasted awhile with that battery. I was only sanding drywall mud which sands quickly, but it worked well for my project. Hooks directly up to shop vac hose to eliminate almost all dust.Erik

I bought this sander to refinish a couple oak stools in our kitchen. I initially was going to buy a different sander, but it was out of stock at the store. This one turned out to be just the right tool. Its a hard worker and was very effective removing the stain and poly on the stools. The 100 grit HD sanding pads were just right. The sander is easy to manage. The off/on switch is covered in plastic, presumably to make it more water resistant. The cover makes the switch a little difficult to turn off and on. At first I didn't realize that the holes in the sandpaper needed to line up with the holes on the base of the sander — there was dust everywhere in the basement. After I realized it I re-positioned the sandpaper to align with the holes. It was better, but still not very effective. That was the biggest drawback. This is a great little sander. Light weight and not much vibration during use. This random orbital sander requires very little pressure to get the job done. The hook and Loop sandpaper is very quick and easy to change. The on/off switch is easy to use in a convenient location and coveted to protect it from dust. The dust bag does a good job capturing dust and easily snaps right on and off. I am very pleased with this purchase. So far, I have used it on a storage shed that I’m preparing for repainting and a couple of interior doors. Great product!Kevin
A great sander, easy to use and very good quality. I recently repainted a 100 years old redwood foyer with 8 decorative columns and 60 small windows. I cannot even count how many layers of old paint it had, so most of the work was sanding. A lot of sanding! My friend who is a professional carpenter gave me this sander. I have several other sanders, tried them all, and I ended up doing 90% of the work with this one, and the rest with a small triangle one, for the narrow corners.
