20 Best Self Tanner For Face For Acne Prone Skin (Jan 2023 Update)

I am a self-tan addict and I have tried many, many brands and product types over many years! I have high standards for how my tan looks and I hope my review is helpful! The body product is overall very nice but the price is less impressive when you realize how quickly you go through the bottle. The face lotion is nice too, but I'm not blown away and I don't like that it makes my face sweat profusely after application. The good: color result is beautiful and lasts a long time when compared to other brands (I swam in non-chlorinated water and it wore very well), non-streaking, no color guide is nice because it doesn't transfer onto fabrics, and it looks very natural. The bad: the product would only be a good price if there was double the fluid ounces in each bottle – I went through the entire bottle in only 2-3 applications and that was very disappointing (I'm not a large person). It does start to get splotchy on hands, between breasts, and elbow/knee ditches after a few days but I've never found a product that does not do that (I believe because skin cells naturally shed). I won't be buying the face lotion again but I will repurchase the body lotion. I will, however, continue looking for a product that is better because I'm not convinced that this is the best out there. I, like many of you I'm guessing, have tried numerous self tanners. After a skin cancer scare a few years ago, I'm much more diligent about protecting myself from the sun but also love that tan glow. I bought the face tanning serum and the dark body tanning lotion. I have tried drugstore brands, Rodan & Fields, Beauty by Earth, Isle of Paradise, St Tropez, etc etc etc. I will say this self tanning lotion is my favorite. I'm still deciding on the face serum, but the lotion is a natural glow with less of an odor than others I have tried. I like that the face serum contains ingredients that actually help fine lines and wrinkles. I like that the body lotion isn't thick or "gooey" feeling and dries quickly. It doesn't stain clothes. I absolutely love this product! I am an avid self-tanner lover and have tested MANY different types and brands over the years. I discovered this brand and their products and decided to give it a try due to the great reviews. I can honestly say this has become the only self-tanner I use. I have used this product for about two years now and I kid you not, every single time I wear this I get a compliment on how good/natural it looks. i was very hesitant to purchase this as i have acne-prone and sensitive skin, and i tried the isle of paradise drops in the past and broke out. PROS: AMAZING glowy bronze! it's super easy to apply and has never been streaky or patchy on me. i apply it at night mixed in with my moisturizer (even just 1 drop works for me, sometimes i do 2 or 3) and then make sure i wash my hands right after. it looks great in the morning. i have not broke out using this product! PLUS it's non-comedogenic which is the #1 thing i look for in a product nowadays CONS: price obviously, but i will be repurchasing when i run out for sure. my second con is that it does dry me out slightly. i have dry skin already so it was kind of expected but it's worth it in my opinion, and the drying is not that bad. just go heavy on the moisturizer if you have drier skin. this is my new go-to face self tanner. im obsessed and so grateful that this product works for me!mmmmiiiiaaaa

Truly life changing. I use about two drops mixed with a thick moisturizer, and I cautiously apply all over my face and neck- be sure to rub into hairline! This stuff is great, there is a mild smell depending on how many drops you use, as well as how thick the moisturizer your using is. The smell goes away after a day. I don’t have very problematic skin, so I can’t attest that this works with all skin types, but it has never broken me out, or changed the texture of my skin. I’ve even used the face drops mixed with body lotion, and rubbed that into my body and it works just as well. I highly recommend. I mix a few drops of this self-tanner with Cerave body lotion and it does distribute well (I have not used on it's own). There are a few spots the following day that are probably obvious self-tanning application mishaps, but likely that's a "me" issue. There is absolutely a smell, and to me (as a 31y/o millennial who has been enticed by self-tanners for many moons) it is directly associated to self-tanner. When I am using, I get a little self conscious of hugging my loved ones because I feel the smell is so obvious that they will know that my natural-looking tan is very unnatural (noting here that yes I think it looks quite natural!). I hate painting my nails, and this absolutely stains my nails no matter how much a scrub my hands after application. Short nails or painted nails it is when this product is in rotation. Bonus: it has never rubbed off on clothes/sheets! Tl;dr: expect a self-tanner scent, use with a lotion such as Cerave, does not transfer to clothing, expect one shade darker and nothing dramatic (I've never had a friend say "omg you look so tan!" which to me is the ultimate test in the dead of winter in New England).MJVC9798

I have always been self conscious about my pasty legs. The tanner helped boost my confidence with showing my legs. I have always had super pasty legs. They just don't tan. I decided to try this self tanner to give my legs a kiss of color. I am not interested in having a actual tanned look. I honestly was just looking to add some pigment to my skin color. The tanner did just what I was looking for!I used the tanner before going on a cruise and I absolutely loved the result I got. The tanner was easy to spread and looked natural. I did do my whole body but, not my face. My only advice is to make sure to lotion ankles, knees, elbows and hands, plus another areas you tend to get dry skin, before applying tanner. When I applied the tanner I made sure to rub it in really good. The tanner did last 5 to 6 days without me lotioning everyday. Definitely can get multiple uses out of the bottle. I have done my whole body twice and still have 3/4 of the bottle left. I definitely will be using this product again!Note: My before and after photos were taking at different times of the day. I'm pleased I took a chance on this product, and if you're on the fence, I'd urge you to give it a try. The scent is pleasant, and not overpowering. I have a cool, fair complexion, green-brown eyes, and medium-blonde hair that goes light blonde in the summer salt and sun (ocean girl here). The medium tone worked very well for my coloring and didn't look at all fake. It took me three attempts before I learned how to apply without streaks. (Hints: exfoliate in the shower, dry off completely afterward. Apply starting at your lower legs and work upwards in sections, rubbing in tanner completely as you go, then wipe ankles, elbows, and any scars with a tissue to remove lotion that hasn't fully soaked in. Wait at least 15 minutes before putting on clothes.) I apply on a lazy afternoon, sleep with the lotion on (doesn't stain sheets), then shower in the morning and I'm good to go for about 4 days before I need to reapply. I ultimately purchased this particular self-tanner because of its non-toxic ingredients, and I was very pleasantly surprised by its quality! I'm very pale and my legs are often oddly much lighter than the rest of me. I used the exfoliating mitt in the shower, applied lotion to my ankles and knees, applied the product in circular motions with the application mit, and relaxed a few hours before bed. I noticed a very slight change when I woke up before I went to work, but by that afternoon when I changed into shorts, I was surprised to see it was even darker and–unfortunately–a little bit orange. I went for a swim and took a shower in which I used the exfoliating glove again, and when I came out, my fake tan was PERFECT! It looks very natural. I'm not sure if next time I should shower sooner or go with this let-it-develop-for-a-while-then-shower approach, but I plan on using this for a wedding next month and I couldn't be happier!Mary

I have tried quite a few brands and types of self tanner, and I have learned I prefer ones that I can put on after a shower and leave on all day. That means I don’t want it to be sticky or to smell badly. I really like the Coola sunless tan line because it smells good, and I can put it on and after letting it dry, get dressed and go about my day. The price point is okay, if you know you’re going to get a subtle, natural tan, and one that builds as you use it. I know some people prefer to have a darker, more noticeable result, right away and that isn’t what I have gotten with this product. I have fair skin, and his gives me a nice glow, that isn’t orange. As I said before, I prefer a buildable tan where I don’t have to sit around all sticky then rinse it off, so that is why I like this product and don’t mind the subtle results.jo.c

I applied this serum a few hours after applying all of my other daytime skincare products (regular toner, moisturizing toner, vitamin C serum, and peptide serum) the day I received it, not really thinking much about it. It's a clear, lightweight serum that has a pretty typical self-tanner smell. The smell dissipates pretty quickly and it dries down but remains somewhat tacky for the duration of time it remains on your skin and doesn't ever completely disappear entirely. I never really apply makeup on top of facial sunless tanning products (since I don't like how the color shift affects how I end up looking!) so I can't comment on how makeup appears on top of this product, but I can say this product acts well as a serum – it made my skin appear smooth and hydrated thanks to the hyaluronic acid component, and I looked as though I was glowing, all changes in color aside. I first applied this product around 5pm in the evening, and the next morning when I woke up, my face and neck were honestly 1-2 shades darker than the rest of my body. This isn't your usual "gradual" tanner – they mean business! I looked like someone who applied foundation that was a shade or two too dark for her skin tone. It was insane. I have to admit, it wasn't the most natural color I've developed with a facial sunless tanner, but it wasn't obnoxiously fake either – I could definitely live with it, given how smooth and well hydrated my skin looked with the beneficial ingredients in the serum (it also has vitamin C and argan oil – 2 ingredients I know my skin has responded very well to in the past)! I love how I can now combine my skincare step with my sunless tanning step, but it should be noted that there is a pretty noticeable tanner smell that lingers throughout the duration of its wear time. The odd thing is, I’ve tried to replicate these results a few times after my initial experience and haven’t been able to develop ANY color really. Puzzling. Still works as a decent serum but I just haven’t been able to duplicate the results…. all other skincare products unchanged. All in all, if you get it to work with the formulation of this product as it is, it's easy to incorporate into either my daytime or nighttime routine which adds to the convenience of the product – other facial sunless tanners have traditionally been found in the form of a moisturizer and less easy to incorporate. I'm a tan girl anyway, & after reading some of these reviews, I decided this might not be very effective for me. So I initially applied twice in one day, morning & evening. Holy cow, was I wrong. It made my face TAN. Like, too tan. Since then, I've scaled back to applying about twice a week. It leaves a healthy, sunny, summery, glow. Tonight, I even mixed it with another serum, for a more subtle color. For the color you get, & infrequent need to apply, this serum is amazing. It hasn't rubbed off, been patchy, stained my pillowcase, or anything at all that would suggest a tanner. It's long lasting, & gradually fades in a way that I don't even notice. The best part about it packing such a powerful punch, while weighing in at only 1.7 ounces, is that it's travel sized. A little goes a long way, & I love to travel. I’ve never been a self tanner person. But even wearing sunscreen my face will never match my body, so I have to use it on my face. I’ve tried so many face tanners, they all smell, irritate my skin, look unnatural or blotchy. I’m so glad I tried this !! The consistency is great! The ingredients are fantastic and don’t irritate my sensitive skin. I don’t know how it manages not to get that horrible oxidized smell when you wear it, and still be fragrance free ! Let me first start by saying that I have tried every self tanner under the sun. With each I have had to make some type of concession whether it be scent, ingredients, consistency, naturalness of faux tan, and even whether the product is comedogenic or not. Then Lux Unfiltered entered the chat. I have followed Sivan Ayla for years and have discovered many of my favorite products per her recommendation. When she came out with Lux Unfiltered I had no doubt she did all the research, cut no corners, and would only release a product of the highest standards. That being said, I waited a few months to try N12. When I did, I was blown away! Even in spite of my high expectations. This product is dreamy. The tan is perfection, I love that it is unscented, and I have never had a breakout. I am on my third bottle and don't travel without it. I LOVE the sun, but religiously use high spf sunscreen + skin treatments which basically prevents my face from tanning. This product has absolutely changed my life. It works so well at giving me a gorgeous tan and evening out my skin tone that I've completely stopped wearing foundation. It hides pimples, acne scars and hyperpigmentation like a dream. I've found that dropping some out into my hands and massaging it directly into my face (vs adding some to my face moisturizer) works the best. Couldn't recommend it enough!C.V.

I usually use the original IOP facial tanning drops in medium and enjoy that product but I recently ran out so I decided to try Hyglo instead and WOW this formula is superior. I typically layer 3-4 skincare products at night and use this where I would a hylauranic acid. I find 4 drops generously covers my face and neck and leaves me with the perfect tan, the same intensity as the original drops but this is less of a hassle to use since it doesn't need to be mixed with anything. I'm really impressed by the texture of this product. It feels like a serum and plays well with anything I layer on top – I've never experienced pilling. It feels hydrating upon application but sinks all the way in and dries down leaving no sticky residue like most HA serums. One thing I dislike about the original drops is since I had to mix them with my moisturizer I had to be mindful of what skincare products I used underneath or else the moisturizer wouldn't always sink in and I wouldn't see results the next day (for example I couldn't use facial oil nights I used the drops). I really love how seamlessly Hyglo works with my existing routine. The only small con for me is the smell..it has a tropical scent that I could do without, but some people might like it (it dissipates immediately after application). I personally prefer products without artificial fragrance but there's really nothing like this on the market. With that said I do have very sensitive skin and haven't experienced any irritation after a week of use. I can smell self tan about an hour application but that's just the nature of the beast. This stuff is amazing. I alternate between my upper body and lower body and then take a day off in between. I use it right out of the shower. Then proceed to get ready while it dries. It has zero smell, doesn’t rub off on clothing (maybe a little on white) and it has a beautiful color. People think it’s real. I have never had issues with streaking on the upper body. Sometimes I get streaking on my lower body. I use the mitt but sometimes just my hand. On the lower body I pump three squirts into my hand for my thigh then another two to get the back of my thigh. On my calf three pumps then another two for the back and swipe across the foot. I find doing that gets better coverage because it is absorbed fast. I love it! The only negative I have it my Apple Watch rubs it off after I put it on and I’m left with a tan line there unless I skip the watch for the day. I use the drops for my face. I add ONE drop to my nighttime moisturizer and then place it on my face and blend. Rarely do I have streaks there. After you have applied wash you hands keeping the top of your hands out of the water. Dab off with towel. That’s it. No smell and no stickiness! Hope this helps.anzchick

I love this product for its clean beauty and the light even normal non orange color it produced . I am pleasantly suprised. I don’t lay out in sun, my skin naturally becomes tan in late spring summer just walking my dog. I bought this to use for arms and legs before bathing suit season starts . Ease of use, no transfer , it drys in a few minutes and on first application it was very light . You shoukd exfoliate day before use and the best results . I did this and did a light spray on my arms and lower legs and chest. I wear my nails manicured and I even put on hands with a makeup sponge. Perfect.. just don’t keep spraying I find you spray in your hands and spread on fronts and backs of arms and legs . I wash my hands with a loofa type sponge so my palms are not orangey. If you use this and take your time , the results are so much better than other colored self tanners. I def recommend if you want some light sun kissed skin with capris and shirtsleeves try it. I have really pale skin and self tanning lotions or sprays have never looked good on me. Needless to say I didn't have very high hopes for these drops, but I am surprised to say I was proved wrong! These are a great choice for someone who has trouble getting an even look that doesn't look too orangey. Even though the bottle isn't very big it lasts quite a while. I found going conservative keeps you looking much more natural and gives the sun kissed look without an unnatural orangey appearance. If you use too much you may end up with the dreaded orange look. It's really easy to apply-just add a few drops to your normal body lotion or facial lotion and mix it up and apply like usual. For an even look I'd highly suggest to exfoliate properly beforehand, but even if you don't it applies pretty well and looks good when it's absorbed. The only downside to this product is that the tan doesn't seem to last a long time. It's there for about 3 days or so and then it's time to reapply. But because it's so easy to apply it's not too much of a hindrance. I also did have a slight amount of acne that popped up after use-although it may have just been my face reacting to a new product and it has since subsided just fine. This is a great product! I got the exact tan I wanted, and it was simple enough to add to my lotion after my shower. It does have that typical fake-tanner smell, which I don't mind. It's not overwhelming, and it fades in a couple hours. Don't be convinced by the people who say this product streaks; that's just user error, and they don't know how to apply it properly. After showering and exfoliating my body, I used rubber gloves to apply it so my hands didn't stain. I squirt some lotion onto my finger, put about 5 drops (per area on my body) into my palm, then took my free hand to mix them together, and finally applied to each area just like I'm putting lotion on. No streaks, no patches, just a flawless, beautiful golden tan. This product does everything it claims, when used properly. BACKGROUND: Having said all that, I am not a fake-tanner. I don't have a lot of experience with it, I've never even been to a tanning salon (I'm 30). The most experience I have with fake tanning is a bottle of Jergen's natural glow I used at least ten years ago. I prefer the natural tan I get from being outdoors. However, I haven't had time to get outside as much as I'd like lately, and I've been craving that beautiful sun-kissed look. (Although, self tanner is just as harmful to your body as a sun tan due to the DHA or erythrulose in it, if not worse since you're not getting any vitamin D, in fact, it's depleting your body of the vital nutrient. In reference to my title "why are you so orange?" this was a question posed to me by my grandmother when she saw me this morning and sadly I'm in agreement with her HOWEVER it doesn't mean this is an entirely bad product and I will explain why. Firstly and perhaps most importantly (for me anyway) is Bondi Sands stance on what it means for a product to be pure… with the rise in products containing natural ingredients, being vegan friendly and containing responsibly sourced ingredients brands have started demonising chemicals such as parabens and fragrance which are perfectly safe for use on skin by calling them "nasties" and "toxic". Bondi Sands Pure pertains mostly to it's responsibly sourced and recyclable packaging saying that you can pop the bottle straight in the recycling bin when it's done, they've also made it clear that the ingredients they've left out are ingredients that are troubling for some individuals such as fragrance- some people find fragrance triggers migranes for them for example but fragrance is of course skin safe. It was refreshing to see a well known brand being responsible with the word Pure and what it means for their products. Now a little disclaimer before I talk about application, I did a weeks worth of preparation, I moisturised daily, exfoliated a couple times, shaved and made sure dry areas were moisturised prior to tan application but I do have an ongoing issue with Keratosis Pilaris (KP) think chicken skin but as a skin condition. I've had this since having my baby last year and I'm trying to tackle it but this can be an issue when it comes to the overall finish of a self tan. The instructions are printed crystal clear on the back of the product's very attractive bottle, nice easy steps, just squeeze straight onto the skin and distribute in sweeping motions using a mitt. The thing is the formula doesn't contain a guide colour so it's very tricky to judge where you've been and whether you've put enough on certain areas, this was a particular problem when it came to my wrists, typically I would use a large buffing brush and using a small amount of product I would blend the product into my wrists, hands, ankles and knees, this has always worked well for me but I kind of felt blind with this product. The formula has no artificial fragrance it just smells of chemicals but in a good way, initially I couldn't detect the typical stuffy self tan smell but as it developed and even now a few days later I get little a whiff of it here and there- nothing on the level of a typical self tan though. Alas I was satisfied that I had covered the whole of my body and waited about 5 minutes before I felt it was "touch dry" a vast improvement on the 15 minutes I would wait with a typical self tan. About 3 hours into development I didn't really notice much of a change, I'm quite pale normally and I still felt quite pale, I could detect something of a glow on my arms but nothing much was happening below my shoulders. After about 6 hours it's like I went from subtle glow to errrr… tanned we'll say- LOOSELY. The colour didn't develop very evenly, there were the tale tale signs on my wrists and my knuckles, my knees were a bit of an obvious giveaway, the colour didn't take to some of my mid section particularly well, there are bands going across my tummy that took the tan and there are bands that are paler. I didn't take the product to my face, instead I opted to use the spray and I'm pleased to say both formulations worked in cohesion with eachother, there were no obvious signs on my neck that show any sort of shade intensity change from where I used the spray, it just blended together nicely. The thing is though I could be quite happy with the faults this product has presented, from the tale tale signs on my wrists, knuckles and knees to the awkward banding on my torso, but the developed shade is not suited to my skin tone. I'm pale, there's no two ways about it, I'm usually one of the first three palest shades in any foundation with a tiny bit yellow warming me up and this product is quite obviously orange on me, not offensively orange where I dare not go out in public but enough to know I'm getting ribbed about it by the family, I'm more than happy to see this application through to the end without hiding though. The tan started to crack on my hands within the first day due to covid hand washing, this can't be avoided but I'm pleased to say that the tan is holding up well, it didn't obliterate into scales despite the continued washing, and as promised by the brand who says the transparent formula means it won't transfer onto fabrics I can hand on heart say this has been true for me, I sleep in white bedding, wear white sports bras and white tops and haven't found any transfer. If you're already somewhat naturally tanned this will be a great product for you, but for me the shade was off and that's quite a significant factor in a self tan, it also made my KP appear a lot more red than usual. I received these products for free from Influenster and Bondi Sands in exchange for my honest review. The packaging is very innovative and represents the brand well. The smell is very pleasant not overpowering like many self tan products. There is no pump as such and so I found the liquid didn’t turn into foam each time I tipped it down so need to be quite careful when applying but the bottle is quite handy and easy to hold. There’s no colour guide but I don’t believe it’s needed with this product, it makes it easier to dress up straight after the application without colour transfer. Big plus! The application was easy, I used a mitt and buffed the product in circular motion. It dries very quickly which is amazing, there is no sticky feeling like with some other tanning products. Colour was nice I have far version but it’s very golden and natural. It doesn’t dry out the skin, there is a little smell the next morning as it develops but nothing major or disturbing. Definitely can tell the ingredients are skin friendly and skin care like. Overall I recommend it the only con is the applicator as the water is runny so you need to keep tipping it up and down to get the right amount of foam. I did use one coat only and I feel that’s more than enough. I love the packaging is fully recyclable. I would probably prefer it to be c-through so you can see how much product is left but it’s not a big issue. I’m impressed with the results. In comparison the other Bondi Sands range I find this range the best as it’s not as drying and the results are more even and natural. Highly recommend.iwona.h

I followed the directions on the bottle exactly, between using the right hand motions to spread out the product, how to prepare skin beforehand and how long to leave it on. 1. while putting it on, it was impossible to tell where I had already applied the product (like, if I had any missing spots) because it goes on clear. 2. I used the same level of darkness I always use in the foam version. This product turned me carrot orange, and literally is impossible to scrub off my skin. I've been using self-tan remover every single day for a week, and its still super patchy, ugly and not budging. I work in a hospital, so I'm constantly washing my hands and using heavy-duty sanitizer. I have a nickel-sized spot of tanner that somehow ended up on my palm. I have no idea how its still there. 3. it said to wait until the product was touch-dry before putting on any clothes. It took me 45 minutes to an hour, standing in a well-ventilated room, in front of a box fan, before I was able to dress. The bottle said 15 minutes.. I swear I didn't over apply any product, I have no idea why it took so long! Very disappointed in this product. I always loved all of their other ones, but this stuff is useless and a waste of money. This is the best face tanner I have used. One of the best qualities in this face tanner is the smell. It smells good when you put it on, and does NOT start to smell like a normal self-tanner after wearing it for hours. I love that it is a gel because it feels extra hydrating putting it on. The color it gives you is a beautiful sun-kissed glow, and it immediately gives your skin a radiant glow right after application. The color is not orange at all. It is also fool proof because it is a gradual tan. This means it won't look streaky easily. Definitely give this a try!brizi23

Great find. It tans pretty deeply, so I used a very small amount of the tinted gel and rubbed it in with my moisturizer so that I would not get too much color. Perfect. I am very surprised at this price, after having tried many face tanners which were higher priced.valk

I usually self tan my body – in the summer to keep my skin out of the harmful sun rays and winter to keep up a nice glow- i hate the look of a tan chest and lighter face (plus tanning your face helps you to use less foundation as well so you save excess product) but my tanner that i love for my body usually breaks me out on my face as im more sensitive. This face gel smalls amazing! it look a few applications daily ( + the directed re apply after 3hrs for a more intense glow) for me personally to build up a similar shade to my chest, however once I did that i’ve only been needing to re apply every few days after my skincare routine! – only because I make sure to exfoliate 2-3 times a week- this way it maintains the glow! This a product I did not know I was missing out of on, until now after trying! I've tried self-tanning products in the past, and none of them stayed long-term. It ended up being too much work spreading the mousse with the glove, and let's face it, the strong terrible scent always stayed on my body. I'm loving this product- because it's so easy to use and works so well. I use it 2 x a week and mix it in the evening with my moisturizer. I love the glow it provides, and my body looks tan. I realized I only need 2 drops for my face, and 10 for the rest of my body. I applied 5 drops on my face the first time trying, and it was too much. With the 2 drops on my face, it blends really well with no streaks at all anywhere. This product does not break out my skin. I have a dry skin-type, and an extensive facial routine. I use a facial oil after applying this on my face. This serum contains alcohol, but it doesn't irritate my skin. I feel like I use enough moisturizing and hydrating products that it works really well. One more thing! I found out I'm pregnant, and I'm so happy that this is pregnancy-safe!!Iga_justdre

These drops do the job – not necessarily the same job every time, but the job nonetheless. I've used this product as an introduction to tan drops about 7-8 times and I do really like it, but I've had issues with consistency. I use it the same each time, but every resulting tan turns out slightly different from the last – sometimes my hands are extremely orange and splotchy even after washing several times during and post application, sometimes my face is unevenly tan, and sometimes there are random splotches on my legs and/or arms. This could most definitely be user error, but I've consistently used the same method each time and feel like the result is always a surprise. Perhaps if I used less drops for a more subtle tan, the results would be perfect. I first had difficulty with the tan taking on my legs as much as my upper body, but now I just do my legs twice and it works well. PROS: Easy and quick application with little to no residual smell. Love that you can mix it with whatever lotion you like. No post-application stickiness and dries very quickly. Way less streaky than mousse tans I've tried. You can easily control the level of tan you prefer – you can use it for a dark all-over tan or use it to touch up a slightly faded tan in one area. I usually do my entire body and then do my face/chest again with less drops on day 3 or 4. Lasts a surprising amount of time (usually about 7+ days for me with proper moisturizing and exfoliation). CONS: Difficult to see where you've previously applied product which can result in random splotches. Relatively inconsistent. Bottle doesn't last as long as you'd hope. Can turn hands orange even after several washes – I definitely recommend latex gloves for body and using a brush for hand application.Angela

I’m very fair skinned. I don’t necessarily burn in the sun but I don’t tan either. I’ve literally tried so many different tanning lotions etc. I even went for a few months to an actual airbrush tanner and while sometimes it would look okay, it almost always looked fake and I looked ridiculous. I seen a TikTok about using self tanner for contouring on your face so I said fine, it’s not my body. I’ll just try it on my face. I did it and it came out SO good that I decided to give it a try on my body. I used the “light” shade and it’s perfection. Made me dark enough to make a difference but it’s SO light and subtle.. I’m actually in shock at how great it came out! I exfoliated the day prior. Shaved and everything then before using, I rubbed regular lotion on areas like my feet, elbows etc then I used the mit that you can purchase with this and applied it from my feet up. It’s clear so that made remembering where I put it tricky lol but I mean common sense goes a long way… I plan to keep it up. Maybe reapply every week or so. Really really pleased! I was pretty skeptical about this working, and potentially turning my skin just plain old orange, but I was pleasantly surprised!! It’s like magic in a bronzed bottle!! Girls, if you are wanting to try this, I’d recommend it for sure! I’m pretty impatient at waiting for things I want so I added the full 8 drops right away into my moisturizer before bed. I woke up feeling refreshed and looking like my skin had such a natural luminous glow! After just one use! I picked this product up on a whim while at Target. I have been pleasantly surprised and very happy with this self tanner! First and most importantly, it does NOT have a funky smell like all self tanners. I literally do not smell this at ALL – it doesn't even smell coming out of the bottle. Secondly, it does not break me out. I have not seen any issues with my skin since using it. Third, it works! I have seen a gradual and NATURAL tan building and I love it! No streaks, no weird patches, and blending very nicely. Super happy and impressed with this so far. I’ve been curious to try #sunless #tanning but a little hesitant as I’d never done it before. You have to exfoliate well, mix 5-10 drops of tanning oil in your moisturizer and smooth evenly over face and neck. Fewer drops for a #sunkissed look and more for a #bronze look. I decided to go all-out guinea pig and experiment on myself. After maybe three applications to the face and neck I decided to start putting it on my body as well, so I wouldn’t look only partly #tan. I’m glad I did, it works and my body tan is catching up to my face! I can’t stop looking at and admiring my darker skin. It’s just so foreign to me. I feel like a whole new person. Some have pointed out the bottle might be too small for a body tan too but not at all, I am sure I will have some left over after I achieve my desired level of tan. This is the best self tanner you will ever use. Seriously, this is a must have. Super seamless, natural-looking tan, with zero blotchiness because the mist is very fine. I always get compliments on the color too. A much healthier alternative to excessive UV rays (though a healthy amount of sun is still great.) I like to apply after a shower before bed-time and make sure to spray evenly over my face and neck at about 7 inches away. I wipe the very edge of my hairline just, in case the product has built up and in the morning I’m all set, though if you’re having a no-other-face-products kind of day, you could totally wear this out. It gives a subtle dewy glow. It lasts about a week for me. I’ve never had a problem with this product staining any of my fabrics but I always heir on the side of caution and sleep with a shirt that I wouldn’t mind getting stained. I would also put a shirt on my pillow if I had white pillow shams, but mine are red and this product has never stained them. Totally worth the purchase even if you’re just vaguely considering it. Not into it? Exfoliate and return it, though I feel like criticisms on this product are rare. I have to say, I was really impressed with this self tanner. It was really easy to use, you literally just spray 5 – 6 pumps on your face neck and decolletage, and leave it, you don't even have to rub, massage or spread it on. It's a spray and go. I applied it before bed and it didn't rub off in the night. I woke to a gentle natural glow, which I was pleased about as I was weary I'd end up looking like an oompah loompah, but I didn't. The texture is non greasy, and it has a lovely soft floral fragrance which is really pretty. Also you don't have to wait half an hour for it to dry or set, it's literally seconds! You also can apply it before or after your makeup, I applied it to a freshly cleaned face. Overall I would say that this product would be an excellent purchase, definitely worth getting, especially through the sunless winter months, to give yourself that soft natural glow, and get rid of the porcelain skin. First, the application is fine, it’s a wet formula and goes on well. The smell however is awful, not just while it’s on, but for 48 hours and two showers later bad. I actually felt the need to apologize to people for how I smelled. My husband said it was disgusting. I have tried about 15 different self tanners for reference so definitely not a newbie. I had to put the color on two days in a row to get a tan, and then even now I’m not very tanned, hence the low rating. If I’m gonna smell the product should at least make me dark, and this fell very very short!!! I’m impressed with how natural it looks on hands and feet, and the color is at least a good color not orange, but if you want a dark tan, this is not for you. I also don’t want to bother with a self tanner that requires two applications for little payoff. I’m truly disappointed. I also purchased the ash one and I am hoping it’s better for color depth, though now I haven’t the highest hopes. I also ordered the coconut water one almost 3 weeks ago and it is lost in the mail with no communication from the company on what they are going to do to rectify and ensure I receive my product. It’s also a mine tan product, but it’s not for tanning, it’s just to improve the skin. I really like it, but for some reason it causes my skin to break out. I've been trying to find a good replacement for my (previous) favorite I can no longer buy. The journey was rough, but this color is amazing. You could also totally wear this out and about and not look dirty. It didn't fade as evenly as I would have liked, but the color alone is worth the extra upkeep. 7 months ago I had laser pigmentation removal which destroyed my skin barrier and now I have super sensitive skin and struggle with dermatitis. I can’t wear most of the old makeup and tan I use to wear without causing a flare up so I thought I’d give eco tan a go. To my surprise it didn’t cause any irritation to my skin. The skin care products I use day and night are derived from essential oils and I’ve found if I mix them with tanning water the result isn’t as nice and sometimes comes out patchy. I saw adds suggesting to use the face tan water as well as the super fruit hydrator and one drop of glory oil so I thought I’d give that a go as I felt my skin need that bit of extra hydration whilst tanning (my skin is super dehydrated since having the laser and my skin feels horrible if I miss a night of my skin care routine) and it left my face evenly tanned and feeling hydrated. Super happy with all of the products that I even got the exfoliating scrub which I also love. I love the face tanning water but I do wish it came in a darker shade as I find I’m putting on 5x the recommended amount and I have to do this two nights in a row to achieve the colour I’m looking for. I am soo glad I purchased this face tan water. The colour is buildable and subtle, yet really effective. The tan water is literally the consistency of water, and covers the face nicely without a smell or noticeable colour/residue. I notice a light tan after one application, and a very glowly tan after 2-3 nights. I can now see this product as a permanent member of my tanning collection, and am soo glad I purchased it. I can go out to the shops without makeup and feel like I look fresher and more put together. It does not replace foundation but it gives you some coverage after a few coats.Andreas review

Wow I really loved all the face and skin care products (sorry so many to names) I am really happy with all the products I am using. For the facts that is all natural. The following is my routine daily . I wash my face in the am and pm using the super citrus cleanser put dry then followed by super fruit toner, glory oil and super fruit. hydratior. Between tree products I let it dry before applying the next product on. . I used face tan water three times a week and am very Happy with it as it give me the glow I need to musk my tired face as I had insomnia . I used super açai expfoliator once a week and face compost mask once a week . I loved the hand sanitiser as it is very convenient to just put it in your hand bag so you have your own hand sanitiser wherever you go and whenever you need it . I used my coconut body milk moisturiser daily after shower and whenever I need it in between . Love the coconut mint body wash and I used the tan remover hand glove to lather myself with it and at same time my skin get daily mild exfoliate and I notice my skin is very smooth . Lastly I used my pink Himalayan salt scrub once a week My friends noticed how my skin looks awesome and my face is glowing Over all am satisfied with all the products as it is organic and natural therefore good for your health, skin and the environmentMaribel B.

This is the first time I’ve used a natural sunless tanner. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was disappointed. I applied per directions on the website but the coverage was still less than stellar. I had streaks on my arms and legs. The smell of the product is fairly innocuous in the bottle but once it dries on your skin it smells like conventional sunless tanner which I’m not a fan of. The color is nice. I have fair to light skin and I ordered the #2 tanner. I’ll continue to use this product, but I won’t purchase it again.Michelle H.

I’m shocked at how GREAT this is! I’m still new to clean beauty & was surprised to see a self tanner. I chose Level 1, the lightest shade because it’s Winter & I wanted something subtle…& just in case this didn’t look great on me, I figured it’d fade faster in the lightest shade! Level 1 is perfect for a subtle glow…100% love! I’ll definitely pick up Level 2 when I’m ready for more color. In reference to my title "why are you so orange?" this was a question posed to me by my grandmother when she saw me this morning and sadly I'm in agreement with her HOWEVER it doesn't mean this is an entirely bad product and I will explain why. Firstly and perhaps most importantly (for me anyway) is Bondi Sands stance on what it means for a product to be pure… with the rise in products containing natural ingredients, being vegan friendly and containing responsibly sourced ingredients brands have started demonising chemicals such as parabens and fragrance which are perfectly safe for use on skin by calling them "nasties" and "toxic". Bondi Sands Pure pertains mostly to it's responsibly sourced and recyclable packaging saying that you can pop the bottle straight in the recycling bin when it's done, they've also made it clear that the ingredients they've left out are ingredients that are troubling for some individuals such as fragrance- some people find fragrance triggers migranes for them for example but fragrance is of course skin safe. It was refreshing to see a well known brand being responsible with the word Pure and what it means for their products. Now a little disclaimer before I talk about application, I did a weeks worth of preparation, I moisturised daily, exfoliated a couple times, shaved and made sure dry areas were moisturised prior to tan application but I do have an ongoing issue with Keratosis Pilaris (KP) think chicken skin but as a skin condition. I've had this since having my baby last year and I'm trying to tackle it but this can be an issue when it comes to the overall finish of a self tan. The instructions are printed crystal clear on the back of the product's very attractive bottle, nice easy steps, just squeeze straight onto the skin and distribute in sweeping motions using a mitt. The thing is the formula doesn't contain a guide colour so it's very tricky to judge where you've been and whether you've put enough on certain areas, this was a particular problem when it came to my wrists, typically I would use a large buffing brush and using a small amount of product I would blend the product into my wrists, hands, ankles and knees, this has always worked well for me but I kind of felt blind with this product. The formula has no artificial fragrance it just smells of chemicals but in a good way, initially I couldn't detect the typical stuffy self tan smell but as it developed and even now a few days later I get little a whiff of it here and there- nothing on the level of a typical self tan though. Alas I was satisfied that I had covered the whole of my body and waited about 5 minutes before I felt it was "touch dry" a vast improvement on the 15 minutes I would wait with a typical self tan. About 3 hours into development I didn't really notice much of a change, I'm quite pale normally and I still felt quite pale, I could detect something of a glow on my arms but nothing much was happening below my shoulders. After about 6 hours it's like I went from subtle glow to errrr… tanned we'll say- LOOSELY. The colour didn't develop very evenly, there were the tale tale signs on my wrists and my knuckles, my knees were a bit of an obvious giveaway, the colour didn't take to some of my mid section particularly well, there are bands going across my tummy that took the tan and there are bands that are paler. I didn't take the product to my face, instead I opted to use the spray and I'm pleased to say both formulations worked in cohesion with eachother, there were no obvious signs on my neck that show any sort of shade intensity change from where I used the spray, it just blended together nicely. The thing is though I could be quite happy with the faults this product has presented, from the tale tale signs on my wrists, knuckles and knees to the awkward banding on my torso, but the developed shade is not suited to my skin tone. I'm pale, there's no two ways about it, I'm usually one of the first three palest shades in any foundation with a tiny bit yellow warming me up and this product is quite obviously orange on me, not offensively orange where I dare not go out in public but enough to know I'm getting ribbed about it by the family, I'm more than happy to see this application through to the end without hiding though. The tan started to crack on my hands within the first day due to covid hand washing, this can't be avoided but I'm pleased to say that the tan is holding up well, it didn't obliterate into scales despite the continued washing, and as promised by the brand who says the transparent formula means it won't transfer onto fabrics I can hand on heart say this has been true for me, I sleep in white bedding, wear white sports bras and white tops and haven't found any transfer. If you're already somewhat naturally tanned this will be a great product for you, but for me the shade was off and that's quite a significant factor in a self tan, it also made my KP appear a lot more red than usual. I received these products for free from Influenster and Bondi Sands in exchange for my honest review. The packaging is very innovative and represents the brand well. The smell is very pleasant not overpowering like many self tan products. There is no pump as such and so I found the liquid didn’t turn into foam each time I tipped it down so need to be quite careful when applying but the bottle is quite handy and easy to hold. There’s no colour guide but I don’t believe it’s needed with this product, it makes it easier to dress up straight after the application without colour transfer. Big plus! The application was easy, I used a mitt and buffed the product in circular motion. It dries very quickly which is amazing, there is no sticky feeling like with some other tanning products. Colour was nice I have far version but it’s very golden and natural. It doesn’t dry out the skin, there is a little smell the next morning as it develops but nothing major or disturbing. Definitely can tell the ingredients are skin friendly and skin care like. Overall I recommend it the only con is the applicator as the water is runny so you need to keep tipping it up and down to get the right amount of foam. I did use one coat only and I feel that’s more than enough. I love the packaging is fully recyclable. I would probably prefer it to be c-through so you can see how much product is left but it’s not a big issue. I’m impressed with the results. In comparison the other Bondi Sands range I find this range the best as it’s not as drying and the results are more even and natural. Highly recommend.iwona.h

This is easy to apply, lasts a while and fades evenly. I've occasionally had the odd streak but that's only because I didn't blend properly. A lot of products can make me look a bit orange but this doesn't. I don't that you can build up the colour as I haven't tried to do this. I use to give a light colour. Very slight smell which is not at all overbearing even if you're sensitive (I am). I'd recommend this. Look out for the % discounts regularly on offer at John Lewis.Polly Bag

I brought this last summer after being told the hydra matte was gone forever, lucky for me my sister had a hydra matte she could not use so i got to finish hers before moving to this hydraessentiel recently. I went to a concession stand in a dept store as needed advice what to change to and lady recommended this. I was dubious when its call hydra for a start. What a badexpensive mistake this was. My skin is awful. It feels clogged and has broken out. Its oily than ever. I used a very small amount as with other products from Clarins. It is also very floraI in smell, which to me is a negative. I’ve been trying out different self tanners and some smell so bad I won’t use them just for that reason. BUT This one actually smells nice! And it’s so moisturizing, I use it mostly on my legs in the summer because they don’t get sun like the rest of me. So this stuff is a must! Even for the pricier side of sunless tanner, it’s worth it. It’s gradual, so I apply after my evening shower, and by morning my legs have a nice tint. Would definitely keep buying this every year!Amanda

This lotion is actually so good. I already had fairly tanned skin to begin with and didn’t know if this lotion would truly build my tan but it really did and I am obsessed. The tones aren’t too orange and it lasts a long time and fades nicely. It looks and feels like a regular lotion. I personally kind of wish it had a scent because I love the smell of tanning lotion but it’s nice for the people who are sensitive to fragrances. I also have been using this on my face and it works just as well. My only downside to this product is that it doesn’t moisturize my skin that well. But overall I’ve been getting a lot of compliments on my tan and will continue using this product. If you’re on the fence about this or another product I recommend this one.Sydney

I had my reservations about the Sleep Mask initially, but to be honest because this range is considered 'pure' and seemingly full of really fab ingredients such as Coconut Water, Vitamin C Hyaluronic Acid etc I thought it might just be one of those great products. Concept wise it seems pretty similar to most face tanners in that it has to sit on the skin for 4 hours minimum, although it isn't specified and directions simply recommend "overnight', for me it's just the same as I'd have done my face with other brands. The smell out of the tube isn't repulsive, and as with the other products in the Pure line it seems a bit daunting when there is no colour guide 🤣🤣. Since this is for the face, I admit that this scared me into believing I was going to apply wayyyy too much! I used a fairly small about but it seemed perfect enough- blended nicely and smoothly over my skin. (we've all been there with the sheets!!!). For me, it was quite a bit sticky for the first 10-15 minutes but this isn't unusual.Then came my horror. Before sleeping, I decided to check the directions one last time and whilst doing that I happened to read the full list of ingredients- albeit I should have done that prior to applying it 🤦🏼‍♀️ not my best decision. The Bondi Sands Pure sleep mask contains 4 ingredients that really mess my skin up, clog my pores and will likely break me out. One of the biggest culprits is Cocoa Butter and Vitamin E. I instantly went into panic mode and washed my face, even used an exfoliating mineral mask. At this point I did not care if my skin had a patchy weird colour, I simply didn't want a random breakout or reaction from it. Sadly, it made no difference. There was a very small amount of colour deposit on my skin the next day but of course I can't comment on whether or not it's a good product. I didn't get a full enough experience. It had however seeped into my nose pores enough that my blackheads looked a little visible from the staining.It might be great for those who have normal, dry,combination or sensitive skin but I personally wouldn't recommended it to people with acne, acne prone or clogged pores as these ingredients left on the skin overnight will clog and congest 🙁peach.s

My favourite item out of the products I've tested in this line. I am religious with my morning and nightly cleansing, retinol use, midweek masking and weekly exfoliation so naturally my face is the first area to see a self tan fade. I started to see some significant fade about three days in to the initial tan application so I decided that would be the best time to give this product a shot. Unlike the facial spray this product doesn't have any sort of natural fragrance which is fine, there wasn't much guidance on how much to use I was anxious about using either too much or too little, in the end I decided to use about a grape sized amount which managed to cover my whole face and neck evenly. As I mentioned before I am a stickler for the whole 7 step nighttime routine so to use primarily just this product and not any serums, retinol or moisturisers felt a bit foreign to me- fortunately this sleep mask contains a few ingredients that are staples in my routine such as Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E. The mask absorbed quickly and my skin felt soft to touch and it was very comfortable to sleep in. In the morning I noticed no transfer on my white pillowcases which was a huge relief as I'm a side sleeper and transfer can be a problem. The mask developed into a nice even glow on my face, not nearly as intense as the rest of my body and certainly not as orange but it was subtle, wearable and I liked it. I feel that this mask can be applied to the face as a standalone product to give a bit of colour when you feel you need it most rather than as part of a two step routine with the body tan. For those of you that don't like it you'll be pleased to know that the tan from this mask comes straight off with standard chemical exfoliation.elorah-jayne.d

I’ve always had the problem that my face is lighter than my body teint. So when I saw these bronzing drop that claimed it is all natural and won’t turn orange, I immediately bought it. I’ve been using it for 3-4 weeks now and I love it! It’s easy to use and you have control over how strong the tint get’s. For me, it works best to dose about 2-3 drops in a decent amount of day-moisturizer, and do this for 1-2 times per week. I usually use it at night, so a big part of the developing time will be while I sleep and when I wake up I look glowy. The result is a nice glowy and sunkissed skin, that us not orange or fake looking. The result stays for 1 week and does not fade under the shower or stain your clothes. It really sinks into the skin and you can’t remove it. I have sensitive and acne prone combination skin, and this product doesn’t sting or irritate, it doesn’t cause acne or clog my pores, it doesn’t dry my skin out. It’s really light weight and non-invasive. However, the reason for me to give 4 instead of 5 starts, is because I do experience small streaks and uneven tone. I mix the drops and my moisturizer very well, and I spread the mixture very well. But somehow my nose always looks a bit darker while it’s the same tint as the rest of my face. And when I spread the mixture carefully from my face to bled into my neck and chest, it results in small streaks. The first time I used it, you saw a very visible line on my chest. Since then I’ve used more moisturizer in order to have enough for my neck and chest as well. But still some small streaks. Personally, I’m not really bothered by it, so that’s why I love the product and keep using it. Beginners tip: don’t go overboard with the drops. When the product was delivered to me, I applied it in the afternoon, the next morning and the next evening. I thought i used to little and did not let it develop the full 24 hours, so this resulted in a more obvious fake looking tan xDEmma B.

I’m very disappointed and regret purchasing and using the face drops and dark tanning mousse. I bought at premium prices for less than drug store prices. Bare in mind I’m light skinned, and well experienced in self tanners in general, tanning. Face drops – no significant changes. Way overpriced for what very little it does. Cheap container. Dark tanning mousse – waayyyyy orange. I have tried using this various ways. Overnight, 2 hours, 4 hours, over moisturizer. This is ORANGE and 4 people I have used this, people have told me so. 1 week later I have been told “you are no longer orange ! “. Now, make your choice. I really wanted to love this product, and that’s why I spent premium price online. I have to say I’m very disappointed.Catherine B.

I just recently got this product, just a few days ago and I can already say I like it. Within the first day of trying it, I was already noticing a difference. Several different people have given me compliments on how "tan" I look (with & without makeup on). I don't know how long term the tint lasts, although I did notice it still after not using it the next day and after taking a shower. I like that the results are natural and not orangey. I have fair/light skin so I was worried about the color but it's not even an issue (I got the medium glow). I did give this 4/5 stars because I really don't like the smell of it and I have noticed it gives me stained nails even when washing my hands immediately after using.KC
