20 Best Self Tanners For Fair Skin (Jan 2023 Update)

This is my second Jergens Tanning Mouse that I bought. I first bought the lighter shade as I’m quite pale and new to tanning. I love these products. I apply with a mit. I watched a lot of YouTube videos as well for tips and tricks and application techniques. It is fast drying. I wait probably 15-20 mins to get dressed after applying but it dries in a few minutes. I don’t feel sticky after either. I have never had it rub off dramatically. I was wearing a tight crop top a few hours after and it rubbed off a little bit in the seam. Yea I believe it has a color guide just so you can see where you are applying it. When you first shower 8-12 hrs later, you may see that come off but it leaves color behind on your skin. There is a little scent left over. To me it smells like freshly peeled potatoes! I know that’s odd but it isn’t too strong to me. Overall great product! I enjoy being tan without the sun damage and possible skin cancer!Cjmlsw

I'm not a newbie when it comes to tanning lotions. I am pale or red when it comes to tanning naturally. Anyways, I showered, shaved, exfoliate, add a little lotions to elbows/knees/ankles and applied the the foam with a mitt. Just like I would with any other tanning lotion I ever used. It was easy to see where you applied which I liked. Yet, later that day my legs were uneven tan (same amount of lotion and circular motions) no water or sweat after applying. To describe my outcome is going out to the garden and getting dirt on you.. some areas have dirt while other areas are still untouched. My tan looks hideous and I had to go out and about on mother's day looking horrible. Lesson learned : don't go cheap on a product and don't always trust reviews as I seen it was 4 stars and decided to try it for myself. Just ask a salon what they recommend instead. This a product I did not know I was missing out of on, until now after trying! I've tried self-tanning products in the past, and none of them stayed long-term. It ended up being too much work spreading the mousse with the glove, and let's face it, the strong terrible scent always stayed on my body. I'm loving this product- because it's so easy to use and works so well. I use it 2 x a week and mix it in the evening with my moisturizer. I love the glow it provides, and my body looks tan. I realized I only need 2 drops for my face, and 10 for the rest of my body. I applied 5 drops on my face the first time trying, and it was too much. With the 2 drops on my face, it blends really well with no streaks at all anywhere. This product does not break out my skin. I have a dry skin-type, and an extensive facial routine. I use a facial oil after applying this on my face. This serum contains alcohol, but it doesn't irritate my skin. I feel like I use enough moisturizing and hydrating products that it works really well. One more thing! I found out I'm pregnant, and I'm so happy that this is pregnancy-safe!!Iga_justdre

These drops do the job – not necessarily the same job every time, but the job nonetheless. I've used this product as an introduction to tan drops about 7-8 times and I do really like it, but I've had issues with consistency. I use it the same each time, but every resulting tan turns out slightly different from the last – sometimes my hands are extremely orange and splotchy even after washing several times during and post application, sometimes my face is unevenly tan, and sometimes there are random splotches on my legs and/or arms. This could most definitely be user error, but I've consistently used the same method each time and feel like the result is always a surprise. Perhaps if I used less drops for a more subtle tan, the results would be perfect. I first had difficulty with the tan taking on my legs as much as my upper body, but now I just do my legs twice and it works well. PROS: Easy and quick application with little to no residual smell. Love that you can mix it with whatever lotion you like. No post-application stickiness and dries very quickly. Way less streaky than mousse tans I've tried. You can easily control the level of tan you prefer – you can use it for a dark all-over tan or use it to touch up a slightly faded tan in one area. I usually do my entire body and then do my face/chest again with less drops on day 3 or 4. Lasts a surprising amount of time (usually about 7+ days for me with proper moisturizing and exfoliation). CONS: Difficult to see where you've previously applied product which can result in random splotches. Relatively inconsistent. Bottle doesn't last as long as you'd hope. Can turn hands orange even after several washes – I definitely recommend latex gloves for body and using a brush for hand application.Angela

I’m very fair skinned. I don’t necessarily burn in the sun but I don’t tan either. I’ve literally tried so many different tanning lotions etc. I even went for a few months to an actual airbrush tanner and while sometimes it would look okay, it almost always looked fake and I looked ridiculous. I seen a TikTok about using self tanner for contouring on your face so I said fine, it’s not my body. I’ll just try it on my face. I did it and it came out SO good that I decided to give it a try on my body. I used the “light” shade and it’s perfection. Made me dark enough to make a difference but it’s SO light and subtle.. I’m actually in shock at how great it came out! I exfoliated the day prior. Shaved and everything then before using, I rubbed regular lotion on areas like my feet, elbows etc then I used the mit that you can purchase with this and applied it from my feet up. It’s clear so that made remembering where I put it tricky lol but I mean common sense goes a long way… I plan to keep it up. Maybe reapply every week or so. Really really pleased! Make sure you wash your hands after but try and avoid full on scrubbing them.ACurd

I have a VERY light complection so the sun and I are not compatible. I wear shorts and my legs glow in the dark so I really like to use a sunless tanner. I've tried all different kinds of sunless tanners and orange is not my color. This tanner does not leave me orange and I've even got compliments on it from good friends that aren't afraid to tell me like it is. Lol. You HAVE to exfoliate your skin before using ANY sunless tanner or you will have streaks. I followed the directions and used latex gloves for application. A small amount goes a long ways. It takes two to three applications to get the darkness I want. (Light to medium darkness) and then a small amount after showers to maintain it. It is pricey but I think it's worth it since everything else turns me orange. I really like this product.pinkwater62

This is my favorite tanning lotion I've tried yet. Have already bought 3 bottles. It doesn't leave you streaky or orange at all. Good for your face as well . It doesn't smell bad either. I am a self-tan addict and I have tried many, many brands and product types over many years! I have high standards for how my tan looks and I hope my review is helpful! The body product is overall very nice but the price is less impressive when you realize how quickly you go through the bottle. The face lotion is nice too, but I'm not blown away and I don't like that it makes my face sweat profusely after application. The good: color result is beautiful and lasts a long time when compared to other brands (I swam in non-chlorinated water and it wore very well), non-streaking, no color guide is nice because it doesn't transfer onto fabrics, and it looks very natural. The bad: the product would only be a good price if there was double the fluid ounces in each bottle – I went through the entire bottle in only 2-3 applications and that was very disappointing (I'm not a large person). It does start to get splotchy on hands, between breasts, and elbow/knee ditches after a few days but I've never found a product that does not do that (I believe because skin cells naturally shed). I won't be buying the face lotion again but I will repurchase the body lotion. I will, however, continue looking for a product that is better because I'm not convinced that this is the best out there. I, like many of you I'm guessing, have tried numerous self tanners. After a skin cancer scare a few years ago, I'm much more diligent about protecting myself from the sun but also love that tan glow. I bought the face tanning serum and the dark body tanning lotion. I have tried drugstore brands, Rodan & Fields, Beauty by Earth, Isle of Paradise, St Tropez, etc etc etc. I will say this self tanning lotion is my favorite. I'm still deciding on the face serum, but the lotion is a natural glow with less of an odor than others I have tried. I like that the face serum contains ingredients that actually help fine lines and wrinkles. I like that the body lotion isn't thick or "gooey" feeling and dries quickly. It doesn't stain clothes. I absolutely love this product! I am an avid self-tanner lover and have tested MANY different types and brands over the years. I discovered this brand and their products and decided to give it a try due to the great reviews. I can honestly say this has become the only self-tanner I use. I have used this product for about two years now and I kid you not, every single time I wear this I get a compliment on how good/natural it looks. I was promised amazing things with this tan, so I’ll start with the good… The colour is nice – the green/grey base stops it getting *too* orange (though there are less orange tans out there), and as promised the smell is pleasant. I’m naturally very pale and the medium was plenty dark enough. That seems to be where the good stuff ends. I always ensure I prep properly for tanning with my shaving/exfoliating/moisturising routine, so that was not the problem. I do have dry skin, so I always make sure to moisturise every day as instructed on the bottle. However, 2 days into wearing this tan, my arms and legs looked absolutely RIDICULOUS. So so SO patchy, I looked like bubble wrap with the amount of white holes that were appearing all over me. So I knew it had to come off… fat chance of that happening. Soaked myself in baby oil for an hour, had a long, hot bath and then scrubbed in the shower. Did not budge. It took THREE showers worth of scrubbing just to take *some* of the colour off – good if you don’t want it to come off, but terrible if you do. I had to wear long sleeves/trousers in hot weather for a week whilst I tried every day to eventually scrub it off. It stained my bedding like no other tan has – baring in mind I didn’t sleep with it developing as I don’t like to stain the sheets with my tans. But even after the first several rounds of scrubbing it was still turning my sheets bright orange. Sadly would not recommend this tan and disappointed that I wasted so much money on it.Emily B.

My daughter and I were willing to spend top dollar on an excellent self tanner to ensure we had a nice, sunkissed glow prior to heading on vacation. The reviews online were great but, we were skill a bit skeptical. Our skin hadn't seen the sun in a while (although we weren't completely pale) so, we spent days trying to decide on medium or dark. It was a tough choice but, we settled on Medium to error on the side of caution. I also added the bronzing face drops in Medium as well. Much to my surprise, the product lives up to all the wonderful reviews. We succeed in achieving our sun kissed glow and I've had several people ask where we spent our vacation and compliment my tan. I even catch people checking out my bronzed legs (because the tan looks that good, not just my legs)! I've managed to convince several others to try Coco & Eve and feel like I should be a rep for the brand. I'm sold and if you arent yet then, you're missing out! This product works fairly well. It did leave some streaking on one of my thighs where I must have applied it uneven and it left discoloration on my wrists but hardly noticeable. I didn't apply with gloves but I washed my hands immediately afterwards so there is a line where I washed it off. I am pretty fair skinned and I applied it two days in a row to get a nice tan color. It doesn't look orange at all. I was a little disappointed in the smell. Some reviews said it didn't smell like tanning lotion but I thought it smelled strongly of tanner and I had to take a shower before the smell wore off. I will be using again but probably won't purchase again once I'm out just because it's pricey.Brooklyn

I am by no means new to tanning, and when I say this is by far the worst product I’ve used it is. It’s orange, has no color guide, has a really strong DHA odor compared to others. I did everything correctly directions wise, I prepped my skin the way I normally would. I stood infront of a fan for about 40 minutes for this stuff to dry before I put clothes back on. I didn’t even keep it on for the 12-24 hours. I kept it on for 7 and I’m legitimately neon orange and there’s huge white spots still after I spent over an hour blending and trying to make sure I missed no spots. My mom tried it as well but she tried the lighter tones one and she hates it as well. I don’t understand how people like this stuff, I mean if you like being orange to each their own but I don’t and I’ll most definitely never recommend this product to anyone.emina.a

The 'Classic' shade is the perfect color for light/fairer folks! Most tanners come out super orange on me, this one is the least orangey I've come across. Even better than when I tried a full spray tan. You MUST use a mitt, it's the best hack ever for a smooth application and I wish I would have known about them years ago! Would have saved me from many streaks and dyed palms. It also allows you to get a clean line along/under the jaw, which creates a natural looking contour since I don't use the tanner on my face. I prefer a foam to an over-time lotiony type, so this is perfect for me. It darkens a bit over time, but since its mostly instant you can see any unevenness as you are applying. Exfoliate/shave a day or two before. Pile on lotion to elbows, knees, ankles right before applying. Foam goes on decently non-sticky. Buff buff buff with the mitt, circular motions going with the grain of any body hair. If you do get any spots on the fingers/toes, wipe with some nail polish remover right away and that should take any color off. Color lasts at least a week+ if you are careful to not exfoliate much.Katy

I have used St. Tropez Classic for years and found it to be the best self tanner out there for my fair-medium freckled skin. After buying a recent bottle its clear the formula has changed drastically. The foam was very yellow instead of the brown color it usually is. When you put it on you turn yellow. Another reviewer described it as jaundiced and that's exactly it. After reading a review that said the same about the yellow color I immediately hopped in the shower to get it off quickly. Its terrible. I'm not sure what they did to the previous formula, but in Spring 2022 this is WAY off. I tried Tanologist (Dark, even though I lean fair-medium) and while its not what St. Tropez used to be, I'm happy with it since few self tanners get outstanding reviews. Skip this this spring/ summer and find another option.Lori

I'm liking this for quite a few reasons. It's easy to apply – much easier than the lotion and dries pretty quickly (less than 2 minutes on my skin). Not pricey, maybe a bit more than other tanning lotions and products but it's definitely worth paying that small amount extra as when comparing it to other brands; this product has the least streaking and most natural looking color, not orange, just a nice golden hue. Bonus: there is no funny smell left on your skin once you have washed it off. I find one full bottle lasts me for approximately 6 full body applications which makes it more than worth it for me. If you have fair skin like me and want a natural looking tan, this is the product for you. If you want a super dark tan, this is not for you. There is a green tinted guide color in the mousse to help you apply evenly so you will look extra dark and streaky until you rinse off in the shower. Once it washes off it's obviously lighter but more natural looking. Then it gets a little darker over the next 8 hours or so. The people complaining about it being streaky when first applying and color washing off in the shower didn't read the description on the bottle because it's supposed to do that. Also yes, I agree it is sticky and has a smell until you rinse off but I've never tried a self tanner that doesn't have that. I put on loose clothes after a couple mins despite the stickiness and have never had issues with transfer. I always apply it when I plan to not leave the house for a few hours. I've tried a lot of self tanners and have stuck to this one for the last year because it's the easiest to apply (because of the guide color), has the best end result color (not orange), and I like that I only have to have it on for 3 hours. The self-tanner itself is a fantastic product. Beautiful and easy to blend. And simple to put on. The smell is passable-neither its fantastic not awful, but it doesn't matter. I have really sensitive skin and its gentle on it. Neither a burning not itchy sensation. Didnt produce any inflammation or pain. The tan has a nice, silky mousse consistency. Sharp lines are simple to perceive, and you can tell where you have applied it. Many additional tanning treatments,including ad moisturizers, make it difficult to detect where you have applied them, preventing the formation of sharp lines once you have browned. You have varied time restrictions while using self-tanner depending on the shade you want. If your skin is very fair, one hour will give you a faint tan. It takes 2 hours to achieve a lovely medium look, and three hours to achieve your distinctive look if you have dark skin. Other then that, the self-tanner is a simple and quick product. I first tried St Tropez about 15 years ago when self tanning at home started to trend more, it was the best then and it's the best now. I've tried all the major brands over the years, the expensive £30 ones and the cheap £5 ones and none of them compare to the OG – St Tropez. The formula is so silky it simply glides onto your skin and blends so well with a mitt, it really is fool proof. It smells nice as you apply, it's not overwhelmingly fragranced. I won't deny there is the tell tale fake tan smell as it develops but I just think whatever brand and whatever the packaging boasts you cannot get away from the smell, however with the St Tropez it isn't as strong. I leave it on overnight as I like a darker tan which this achieves without looking orange. It develops to suit my skin tone. It fades pretty evenly without going patchy, but you often get a build up in the creases of your body, again that's the same with all tan so I often scrub these areas a bit harder of loosen with a body oil. I don't even have words for how incredibly amazing this self tanner is! I've been using ST for many years and have NEVER found one like this little diamond! NO fake tanner smell, NO streaks, NO orange looks or hands(especially if you use powder free gloves or preferably a tanning mitt). The color is super dark and looks like you just got back from say Bora Bora! You can get it at Walmart for a super reasonable price too! All round 10/10!!! Okay so I was very excited to try this, because of all the amazing reviews. I do have to be honest, though. Many people stated that it fades evenly with no patchiness, etc but that Is a full on lie. I’m patchy ALLL over my body and it looks very weird. Thankfully I wear full body coverage at work, but this did not fade evenly or nicely, whatsoever. However, it did do a nice job initially with the coverage and color. I was a bit orange, surprisingly, but it’s fine. Also. It’s not even fading, it’s like straight up peeling off my skin. This is my absolute go-to after trying b tans entire line this summer! Perfect color for my fair pink/red undertone skin. This formula gives me a perfect tan that looks natural. No orange. Dark color on fair skin. This is my holy grail self tan product for the price! I start with face & feet with makeup brush then all over with mitt, sparsely on armpits and outer elbows. Hands with makeup brush again as final step. Make sure to bend fingers to get those knuckle creases. Then I stand in front of my fan for 20 minutes, loose long clothing and go to bed. When I wake up, I shower with dove soap bar to cut the toasted croissant smell as the DHA developed on the top layer of my skin overnight. Smell isn't terrible like other brands or old product. PSA: if your self Tanner stinks/wreaks, it's rancid, throw out and purchase new!!! I can't believe how many times people complain of stinky products they took out of the closet from a year+ ago and still use it, eeewww. At this price point, you can get one of these and be much much happier with it! I was happy to have found this originally at Walmart 2 months ago, to date I've tried every single foam in b tan line and this one is it for me along with, I want the darkest tan possible for even darker summer days. I'm in love with these products! Will be using year round in different shades per season. No more pasty winters for me. Pics are from cold weather to tanned AF in the other. Reference for skin tones and results with this bottle specifically. I hope this helps someone else! One drawback for me, m skin s always sticky AF with this. Wish they'd come with more spray options next spritz style, not aerosolized. Very fair skinned! Burn easily! I have tried almost every kind of tanning lotions, oils, foams, always turning orange or having that dark fake look around my ankles, elbows, knees. Tried B. Tan Forever and I am sold!! I have followed the instructions, exfoliating, evenly applying, and faithful keeping my skin moisturized. WOW! My skin looks like I stepped out of a tanning bed or have a natural tanned glow! Beautiful! I dont look blochy as the week goes by and I reapply every seven days. I like some of this brands other tanners, so I decided to give this one a try. I put it on and slept through the night. The color was very dark when I woke up, but luckily most of it washed off in the shower to reveal a nice tan. I will never use this tanner again though, because it clung very strangely to my skin and looks super uneven. I’ve been tanning for a long time now and have never had this happen. I was exfoliated beforehand, so there was no dry skin for it to cling to. It’s very strange and really unflattering. I’ll stick with their other tanners.Lilly

I bought this on a whom 2 days ago at my local Walmart. I purchased a mitt to apply the product and I have to say it went on pretty easily I followed the directions by exfoliating 1st as it states on the bottle. I actually stumbled across a exfoliating sponge which was inexpensive and did a great job. I got a little braver by applying it to my face as well !!! The results were pretty amazing. The mousse has a color guard so you can see exactly where you are applying . I did not use cream or moisturizer on my elbows ,knees or heels but if you are really dry I would recommend doing that. I also learned a few tricks by watching u tube videos on how to achieve the best results and by adding a few of the tricks i.e. using a makeup blending brush for the top of my hands and feet really worked out to soften and help the look more soft and more real. The only con is after applying the smell is not pleasant it seems to get a little stronger as it drys but overall not as bad as some of the other products I have used in the past. I would highly recommend doing this at night and use an old sheet to lay on as some will transfer off. 8 hrs later after a good night's sleep wake up rinse not scrub in the shower and boom pretty nice results. I have already recommended this to friends and the price is awesome 9.97 and the mitt which is reusable 5.97 exfoliating sponge 2.97 so 19.00 bucks total and tanned for at least 3 days and if you use a gradual tan moisturizer it can last quite awhile. I never thought I would be a user of self tanners because of my fear of a ending up with a streaky/ orange tan. However after going through the diagnosis and treatment for Invasive Melanoma last year, my days of being in the actual sun have ended and that is how I discovered Bondi Sands. After spending HOURS on line researching reviews for self tanning lotions the reviews for Bondi Sands I found to be the most consistent and so I ordered it and tried it myself. I am VERY fair complected and so I have only used the light/medium and it provides me THE PERFECT amount of color. I use the Bondi Sands application mit and even from my very first application (which the first time even for ANY self tanner) I had not one single streak and the perfect glow of color. I can even say that I did notice a spot that I had missed on my leg with my first application and so I took a chance and reapplied about 6 hours after the first application and EVEN THEN my color was PERFECT! Not even a hint of overlapping color! I cant say enough how much I love this stuff! It has been completely idiot proof for me and I cant recommend it enough! I havent had a single streak or any hint of orange at all! However, do believe that the key is using the application mit.sherri

I was pretty skeptical of this even with the reviews. Surely it had to be orange or streaky or messy, right? Shockingly no. It goes on very easily, dries right away, and isn’t messy. Any streaks that happen disappear instantly when you swipe the mitt over them again. During the stage between applying it and washing it off it will leave a small amount of residue on any fitted piece of clothing, so wear something you don’t care about when applying. It also seems like the bottle will last a really long time. I barely made a dent in it and I did my torso as well. I’ll be interested to see if it is clothing-safe after it has been washed off. I included a picture of it with one leg done to compare. Obviously this was immediately after applying so it wasn’t as dark as it got, but I was impressed with how natural it looked right away. A little disappointed. I love the Pure foam but wanted to try a new product. This one does not compare to Pure for me. It comes off within 2 days, it is very sticky. And it leaves residue EVERYWHERE. My sheets, my clothes, my freaking toilet seat haha! Anyway I love Pure, so im just going to go back and consider this purchase a waste of money. Its immediate results so maybe its good for like a quick tan if you need it that day. But i HIGHLY suggest only wearing black clothing if this is your quick tan fix.Cori

I have used various self tanners for decades and can honestly say I have never had one that did NOTHING, until now. I liked everything else about it…easy application with thin foam, the self tanner scent wasn’t bad, and the price was excellent. However, none of those things matter when it gives you ZERO color. I exfoliated prior, showered and then applied. The next day I applied again, and then tried a third time just to make sure it didn’t need more build. When I say no color, I mean it did nothing. Despite it being cheap, I still went back to the store and returned it! Will stick with my go to drugstore brands for now.katyruddrn

Completely completely bummed! For over 5 years I used the Sephora Tinted Self tanning mist and loved it!! I can’t believe it was discontinued- I would’ve ordered 10 more of them if I could’ve. So I tried this Sephora tanning body mousse. And it is NOT a mousse, it is a watery foamy mess!. I waited to see if it would be a buildable tan for me and nothing. I have used it four times in the past 24 hours to build on the ‘tan’- and cannot even tell that I darkened at all. It’s an awful mess!!! I Purposely did not put it on my belly so I could tell the difference in what is my real body color and what is the buildable tan color and there is no difference after four applications in 24 hours. One Must have to be really pale for this to show up. I have Mediterranean olive skin when in the sun, however, I have not been in the sun so I have no real tan. I’m pretty pale. Such a disappointment. Don’t spend your money on it, and Sephora! Bring back the Sephora tinted body mist!texcaligirl

I applied the product at night after my shower and you can straight away see the result on next day morning. I like that the tan is quite natural-looking. Some little things that I do not like about the product are the smell (just personal preference) and the stickiness after applying. Though it's also possible that I applied the product quite generously.daph

I usually use the original IOP facial tanning drops in medium and enjoy that product but I recently ran out so I decided to try Hyglo instead and WOW this formula is superior. I typically layer 3-4 skincare products at night and use this where I would a hylauranic acid. I find 4 drops generously covers my face and neck and leaves me with the perfect tan, the same intensity as the original drops but this is less of a hassle to use since it doesn't need to be mixed with anything. I'm really impressed by the texture of this product. It feels like a serum and plays well with anything I layer on top – I've never experienced pilling. It feels hydrating upon application but sinks all the way in and dries down leaving no sticky residue like most HA serums. One thing I dislike about the original drops is since I had to mix them with my moisturizer I had to be mindful of what skincare products I used underneath or else the moisturizer wouldn't always sink in and I wouldn't see results the next day (for example I couldn't use facial oil nights I used the drops). I really love how seamlessly Hyglo works with my existing routine. The only small con for me is the smell..it has a tropical scent that I could do without, but some people might like it (it dissipates immediately after application). I personally prefer products without artificial fragrance but there's really nothing like this on the market. With that said I do have very sensitive skin and haven't experienced any irritation after a week of use. I can smell self tan about an hour application but that's just the nature of the beast. This stuff is amazing. I alternate between my upper body and lower body and then take a day off in between. I use it right out of the shower. Then proceed to get ready while it dries. It has zero smell, doesn’t rub off on clothing (maybe a little on white) and it has a beautiful color. People think it’s real. I have never had issues with streaking on the upper body. Sometimes I get streaking on my lower body. I use the mitt but sometimes just my hand. On the lower body I pump three squirts into my hand for my thigh then another two to get the back of my thigh. On my calf three pumps then another two for the back and swipe across the foot. I find doing that gets better coverage because it is absorbed fast. I love it! The only negative I have it my Apple Watch rubs it off after I put it on and I’m left with a tan line there unless I skip the watch for the day. I use the drops for my face. I add ONE drop to my nighttime moisturizer and then place it on my face and blend. Rarely do I have streaks there. After you have applied wash you hands keeping the top of your hands out of the water. Dab off with towel. That’s it. No smell and no stickiness! Hope this helps.anzchick

Hello!! I have been self tanning for about 40 years yes I’m that old!! Anyway this is the BEST SELF TANNER I’ve ever used I mean it!! And it’s affordable. The spray nozzle works upside down sideways it works. The color comes out beautiful if you layer it, you can darken it and it continues to darken it dryS QUICKLY!! I’m telling you people you need to try this if you don’t like pale skin or need to even out your town this product really really works!! This product produces a fair color, however DO NOT use this product if you have not applied spray tan before. It takes time, effort, and a steady hand to create an even tone. Color goes on fast and heavy so there is little room for error. I reccomend to everyone treating this product similarly to a Mystic Tan: exfoliate first & allow 8hrs for your skin to dry; hold at least 10 inches from body & use a tanning glove to remove excess; use a blow dryer if necessary; even your color by using a natural lotion over your entire body once tan is nearly dry. **Witch Hazel always strips a bad tan. **Windex will give you a quick fix for stains on the hands.emilros_34

If you asked me which products I’d be inclined to buy stock in, or ask for a share in their company, my pasty self would without hesitation tell you “tanning products”. I have tried hundreds of self tanners, and I’d be willing to bet you couldn’t name one I haven’t tried (seriously try me). With that being said, I now label myself a “self tanner connoisseur”. Its been a long splotchy, and Orange Road learning to differentiate between the tanners that make you look like an Oompa Loompa vs. the ones that make you look like a glowing goddess that just landed back home from her lavish vacation in Fiji. I digress. THIS product has surpassed my insanely high standards with flying golden radiating colors. Whether you need some color instantly before a night out, or you want to deepen/luster up your already tan skin, this is the product for you. After a few sprays of this gold in a bottle, you achieve a deep bronzey tan that has NO orange or ill undertones. Also, It dries within minutes so you won’t have to prance around your air conditioned house in the nude for a half hour. Another added bonus, it lasts for a few days with no reapplication. The single reason I deducted a star is because when you wear this, you may want to avoid white. It will transfer when you sweat, and if you’re wearing a white top/white skirt you will end up looking like a hot brown stained mess. Overall I definitely recommend for my pasty girls. Xosamantha.l

I'm usually put off by fake tan as, to be truthful, I'm absolutely rubbish at putting it on! I normally go for a gradual build moisturiser as I feel that it's easy to apply. With this St Tropez, a little does go a very long way. It's easy to spread and blend in to get a streak-free glow. It dries quickly, so you don't have to stand like a scarecrow in the bathroom for an hour, it smells nice and it leaves a nice finish. A risk for me is that it says wash off and I don't want to end up patchy but it seems non-transferable on to clothes and bedding (a big bonus). I'd recommend applying with a dual mitt, especially if you're as rubbish as me at usually applying fake tan.Sally1

I love this St tropez instant glow , it easy to blend into your skin using a mitt . If offers a great alternative to fake tan, as it lasts all day and then can be washed off. Perfect for me who is nervous of fake tan products . The crème drys quickly and doesn’t have the usual fake tan smell . It leaves your skin feeling soft, streak free and will a natural looking tan. Using a mitt, it’s easy to blend and spread the crème evenly over your body and can also be used on your face. I’ve even used it as a daily bronzer .Claire201110

I usually use the developing tan or the foam that you wash off the next morning and leaves you with a healthy glow. So this was my first time using this type of tan. It went on very thick and hard to spread at first, but eventually got used to it. I would say it was brilliant for my face but it was ok for the body. I felt it left me a bit patchy at times. Maybe after a few times using it you’ll get used to it but if I’m honest I found it wasn’t as dark as I’d would have liked either. Other medium/dark tans Iv used are usually darker. I would however use it for my face again. I really liked the glow.SA10787

Honestly, I don't understand how some people do not like this self tanner. It is THE best color and doesn't streak for me. People, USE the mitt, do not try and apply this with gloves or bare hands. As long as you shower, exfoliate and apply this to completely dry skin you will not have any issues. I am olive toned complexion so the color guard works better for me than most. Try a little bit at a time and really learn to buff with the mitt. Overall, I always come back to fake bake. Absolutely love this original lotion and the smell is very bearable compared to other self tanners.PKG

I received this product to review. I was very nervous about using a Fake Bake after an awful result many years ago with a different self-tan branded product and yuk the smell! I took the plunge and tried Fake Bake on my legs using the gloves provided. There was a guide colour but this faded after a while so I wasn?t sure if I had applied it properly. After a few hours, I was delighted to see a very natural light tan. The smell wasn?t too bad and easily washes away. Now I have seen the results, I will be trying more to deepen the colour. I?m extremely impressed! No wonder this product is out of stock at the moment, especially on special offer. I would gladly purchase in future and consider other products in the range.weloveocado!

I have tried tanning in tanning beds but I do not tan very well and I do not like the spray tans. They stain my feet too bad. I have also tried many different sunless lotions and some were okay but nothing I really wanted to continue using. A friend recommended this lotion so I thought I would give it a try. It is wonderful! It smells bad at first but the smell quickly fades. I love that the color of the lotion is really dark. This helps with rubbing it in really well so you can see where you missed or where you left too much. I also like that you can use a baby wipe to wipe an area you didn't mean to get the lotion on. The coloring the next morning is wonderful. It's definitely not orange looking (at least on me). It's a more deep golden tan. It's hard to describe but I am loving it. I can even put this on my feet and it doesn't stain or splotch up the ankle area. Great stuff!!!cashley1016

I live on the Oregon Coast where it rains most of the year, here we say people don't tan they "rust". If I didn't use sunless tanner I would never look tan. I've tried several brands and many times it did look like I had rusted – LOL. Sometimes because of the product, sometimes I think because I needed a "tanning for dummies" product! This did the job perfectly. I first got the set because it came with a smaller bottle of product and the mitt for $20 because I am not dropping $44 for something I'm not positive will work. The process: I exfoliated, shaved and moisturized with an oil free lotion the day before applying this, the next day I applied it, using about 2 pumps of product for each section (lower leg, upper leg, etc.) I followed the expert's advice about putting it on lightly over my dry spots (ankles, knees, elbows etc.) I also found by putting my foot on the toilet seat I could point my foot down in the seat and feather it easier on my feet. After the first coat I let it dry for about a half hour and then I applied a second coat. This time I only used about 1 pump per section and I did the second coat because I figured I would get anyplace I may have missed the first time. After 3 hours I rinsed it with just warm water and a little bit of body wash. At first it didn't look REALLY tanned, but when I woke up the next morning it was absolutely perfect! Not because I did a great job but because this stuff is so easy to use and it does what they say it will do. I have since dropped the $44 for the full sized can because to me, it is worth every penny.K.

I have never spray tanned or self tanned before. Topaz has been a brand I have been eyeballing for a minute. I didn't want to buy a big bottle and it not be for me. So I tried the sample size. It smells so good. It comes with a cute topaz glove in the case along with the tanner. It's a little bottle and I was able to get three uses out of it. You are suppose to apply every 10 days on clean mosturised and exfoliated skin. Now it does say up to three hours. For me I am a white paste girl, ok. First time I did it I did the three hours and I has a sunkissed glow. The second time I tried it and I left it on for 5 hours and I was BRONZED. I just wanted to see if it continues to tan or if it stops working after 3. It definitely keeps going. (Also if it's not applied evenly it will tan uneavenly) Also remember to shave before!R.s.

this works really well for a beginner like me. my first application wasn’t perfect and i had some (barely noticeable) streaks on my legs, but i chalk that up to user error since it was my first time using a self tanner. the color matches how my skin naturally tans, and i like that i can leave it on longer if i want a darker color or shorter for lighter. haven’t had any issues with it staining clothes/sheets or looking weird on my hands or ankles. also doesn’t seem to have much of a smell. will def be buying the full size!Lindss1

I'm a very pale girl with pink undertones to my skin. The liquid is dark brownish red. It's difficult to apply because it dries so fast and is not moisturizing to the skin. I applied it using the gloves provided and a tanning mitt and neither really helped me put it on. Applying to my back was especially difficult because of the consistency. Maybe mixing the serum with an oil or moisturizer would help. The tan looks natural and it lasts at least a week on me. It recommends wearing overnight for a deeper tan, but it can come off on light colored clothes and sheets. The serum has no initial odor, but has that sunless tanner smell later on. This tanner was fine to try, but overall is not right for me.Amy

This my go to for a flawless, hydrated golden tan. When applied correctly in the evening hardly any appears on my white bed sheets! I always wake up with a great tan. I have been using this for years. However after applying my tan today from my delivery the consistency seems much thicker causing it difficult to rub in and leaving dragging marks. I showered and exfoliated prior as I always do. Such a shame as think I got a dodgey batch! Not cheap do may purchase from my salon or shop next time.Emzyhorgsvarley

Love this and here's the tips for applying it. Apply it at night after you cleanse and exfoliate. I recommend using a kabuki brush, that way you can buff it in and see exactly where you need the product. This also eliminates any streaking. Let it dry and go to sleep. In the morning take a warm wet washcloth and gently press it to the face. This will remove any extra product that did not absorb and will even out the color. To maintain the color daily, I mix a small pump with the nightly moisturizer and every morning the golden color is still there and looks very natural. Just remember….apply with a dense kabuki brush. I makes all the difference.brownink

I am fair but tan easily there are times in the winter I would like to be tan and feel like summer. Out of the many products there is out there to use this is not the greatest. I think the application is quick but blending isn't good because it dries to quick before you can even do a tiny area.I tried using a lotion and coconut oil to moisturize before applying the makeup lotion and still dries quickly and blotchy. I had such high hopes that it would be simple and beautiful. The smell was pleasant it didn't break me out or stain my hands. Gentle washing with warm water soap and washcloth brings this product off instantly which for a tanning product is amazing. It has so much potential maybe a slightly new formula may help.The look of the packaging was nice a girly pink big readable text which is something I love in a product. The color was spot on not orange or yellow just a perfect brown tan for this price that amazed me. I would never recommend this to anyone maybe to my children to play makeup with but otherwise it makes you look like a jersey shore clown. I looked like I had animal texture skin or mud smeared all over myself just simply terrible.Walked into my living room to show my husband and he laughed at me never something you want out of a beauty product.binzany

I have posted a simple YouTube video review for those more visual shoppers which is linked for your convenience below. Disappointment is the first thing that comes to mind with this product. Why, the fake color and hues it puts off reminds me of the fake tan applications gone wrong. So the appearance is not realistic enough for me to consider wearing. The consistency is unlike lotion, thicker and heavier than most foundations. It goes on so thick and heavily that working into the skin for even coverage takes a lot of time and in my experience I was still unable to get even coverage. I utilized my fingers and then tried applying it with a makeup wedge to see if that improved. In order to achieve even coverage, I then had to apply translucent powder. I feel, if you have to add more makeup, to makeup to make it look good, then it isn’t working. Especially if still want to maintain a more natural appearance. More about the product itself, what it does do, is moisturize as promised. It also washes off with a little bit of effort however, do not use a facecloth until it is all gone to avoid staining. I used baby wipes at first to clean my face then followed up with my normal face cleaning routine. The value for performance is off balance. There are powder bronzers on today's market that far outperform this product without having to heavily apply layers of makeup. The overall appearance of the packaging is nice and in tradition with L’Oreal Paris trademark packaging. They thoughtfully created a color cap close to color of the bronzer lotion. This was smart packaging. The cap clicks open with little effort and closes securely. The tube itself is not too wide and easy to handle. The packaging was super. No damage was found from distributor to my home. Walmart shipped via FedEx packaged in a box. I am not very happy with this product and, would not recommend to my family and friends.The quality for the value did not exceeded my expectations and I would not purchase this product for myself or others.Love

I am always very skeptical, of these instant tan products. I have tried many different types and different brands, over the years. I have not been satisfied with any of them, as they have all given my skin an orange tint. I still continue to try new instant tan products, though, hoping to one day find one that does a nice job and does not give my skin an orange tint. I had high hopes, for this L'Oreal Sublime Bronze. L'Oreal is a respected brand, which I have used previously, and I thought the description, of the product, sounded promising. It claims to be a 5-IN-1 formula that delivers spectacular results; instant summer tan, blurred imperfections, flawless finish, improved softness and 24 hour hydration. "Because You're Worth It." Well, it certainly sounds wonderful! Unfortunately, the lovely smelling cream gives my skin the dreaded orange tint. A single layer is not too bad, it gives my skin a little color, with only a slight orange tint. However, if I apply a second time for a "more intense result", my skin is Smurf orange. The product has ingredients that consist of water, as the first ingredient, mineral oil, palm oil and a host of other ingredients that cannot be easily pronounced. It also contains fragrance, that I must say is very nice. That was a surprise, as most other instant tan products that I've tried, had an unpleasant scent. This product smells really fresh and pretty, so that's a plus. I wanted to use this product on my legs. I live in Florida and have worn jeans, over the winter – so I have tanned arms and pale legs. I was hoping to give my legs some color, so I could wear shorts and not look so uneven. I think I might be able to use this product, for that purpose, but I may be a bit self-conscious about it, because of the orange tint. So I will only use it, until my legs get some color of their own. This product has no sunscreen. If you want to tan, while using it, and need to use a sunscreen, this product will be affected, by the application of additional products. Everybody has different types of skin and this may not give everybody an orange tint – but it does, to me, so I can't recommend it.Katseye5150

Like heck this is a "gradual" tan. I got this brand because it seemed the most mild and gradual, would only apply a very small amount of tint each application, and that I would just very slowly start to see results to ensure that I could be streak free and natural looking. Let me tell you – I blended ultra thoroughly, waited 10 minutes to dry, and now my arms look like a watercolor painting. Maybe I blended too thoroughly and it made the tinting agent clump or something? I'll see if I can dilute it for a more even application…Courtney

I would not recommend this product to anyone with sensitive skin. Please do the skin test before applying all over and wait up to 48 hours before washing off. I used this all over and now I have hives from head to toe after 24 hours. I'm on 2 different antihistamines and I had a steroid shot this morning. I also have 2 steroid prescriptions, one oral and one topical. The nurse said that I may have to go back for another steroid injection in two days. This is so bad, please do the skin test.

Aside from the hives, the results were orange and streaky. Once I showered I was pale again. You should look elsewhere if you are looking for a long lasting natural looking even bronzed skin tone.Lynnea Massey

Grabbed this off the shelf at my local pharmacy. I tried to like this product I really did. This is a very thick formula It took a lot of effort to work it into the skin, mind you I have extremely dry skin that absorbs everything …except for this. The smell wasn't too unpleasant and I haven't noticed any staining on my clothing. After applying the product it took some time to dry down and when it did It was sticky for quite a while. The end result was very streaky and artificial looking, very orange on my already tan skin especially in the daylight. I also noticed that it made the bottom portion of my legs look very splotchy accentuating the razor stubble, I have tried it on freshly shaved legs with the same result.. Is it buildable? Yes. But the question is, do you really want to build on an already orange looking tan? There are much better sunless tanning products out there, (Please see my other review for L'Oreal). I will not repurchase this. I have always enjoyed Neutrogena products but this one is a swing and a mess I mean miss. Save your money!jackie.c
