20 Best Serums For Dry Hair (Jan 2023 Update)

I've been using the Velvet Mesquite Serum for a few weeks now, and it's the answer to my prayers. I've been using prednisone to treat a lingering sinusitis/bronchitis infection, and it's left my hair in horrible shape. I'm very vain about my hair, and the prednisone didn't leave me much to be vain about. My hair became horribly dry, it lost its body, and it started thinning: strands would break along the shaft and fall out (it's disconcerting to be watching TV and feel hair falling onto your shoulders). My husband even remarked how unusually dry it felt. . I tried various shampoos, both drugstore and prestige brands — shampoos that promised to repair my hair, others that promised to moisturize it. I saw a degree of improvement, but nothing that brought my hair back to its normal condition. . I bought the smaller size on a whim. The reviews were great, and it was a lot less in price than all the different shampoos I'd tried to solve my hair problems. After a week of using it after every shampoo, I saw a significant difference. The body was back, it feels fuller, it no longer felt dried out, and it was smooth, silky, sleek and shiny (unusual, since I have silver hair — I'm 61, have never colored it, and I'm vain about the shade, but silver hair is rarely shiny and it can have a coarse texture), and strands aren't breaking and falling on my shoulders. . The serum is light, and doesn't weigh your hair down or make it feel or look greasy. It has a lovely, light scent, which is very unobtrusive. And you don't need a lot — I keep my hair short and I use two pumps, sometimes three, applied one at a time to towel-dried hair: one applied to the hairline and finger-combed back, one to the temples and finger-combed back. If my hair is longer, I'll apply a third at the back of my head just below the crown, and work that down. . After the results I got with the smaller size, I grabbed this one when I saw it was available. I'm also going to order the shampoo and conditioner duo. I've always had nice, healthy hair but I just turned 54 and I think menopause is starting to rear its ugly head. My hair is still pretty nice and healthy but I feel like it's starting to thin and I felt like it just needed some extra help. I had received a sample of this serum in a kit with some other Nick Chavez mesquite hair products. I didn't really care for the mesquite shampoo and conditioner, but I did like the mesquite revitalizing spray that came in the kit. Anyway, I was searching for something else recently in my bathroom and I came across the sample size of this serum. It was almost empty but there were a couple of drops left so I thought "what the heck," let me see how my hair feels after I use this. My, oh my, did my hair feel fantastic after using this serum! It felt so soft and hydrated. Now my hair can be weighed down easily so I only use one or two drops at most. It really is a beautiful product. Since I used up my sample size of this serum, I decided to order a full-size. This is a great value for 4-ounces of this serum. Highly recommend!sueeich

My mother bought this for me she was swearing that NCBH Was so much better then the bumble&bumble products we'd been using. I first switched to the DIVA shampoo/conditioner, which by the way when I smelled it in the bottle I didn't like it but once I used it w/ Diva versastyler or GLITZY styling glaze I loved it. fyi, I also use this serum. The order in which I use my Nick C products are 1. wash/condition 2. Spray 4 spritz of the velvet misquite restoring mist on the length of my chin length hair, then I wrap my hair in a turbie towel for 5 min. to absorbed the water 3. I use either a nickel size of the GLITZY glaze OR a quarter size of the VERSASTYLER, WHICH I FIND EASIER TO USE. 4. Then I added this serum to my hair and I have EXTREMELY thin and baby fine hair that very easily gets oily and gets gooped up with products, not with these products BUT expierement on how much you need to use. A little goes a long way. I use the DIVA shine spray before using a heat tool. I use this serum daily when my hair is wet and then after its dry. At night before bed i use more and my hair is never greasy, never heavy. The sent caught me off guard but was nice nice and hardly noticeable once in the hair. my hair is bleached or "white out" which means its double bleached, since using this serum alone my hair has nearly no breakage. Its so much more healthy, I got it for christmas I've been using it only a month. I also have extraordinarily dry skin. I used THIS SERUM only once with my PTR AND ELEMIS products and my face is no longer dry I use it daily. A dime size amount. My skin was so dry that when i went to wet it to wash, the water and Purity burned my skin. Now my make up goes on wonderfully. I never thought what would work for my hair could fix my skin. Something no cream, serum or oil to include Argan oil could do for my once dry acne prone skin. No break outs ladies and gentlemen. Give this a try. You've got nothing to loose..2 Green eyes

Thicker Fuller Hairs entire line of products are amazing! This tonic works well at nourishing and refreshing ones scalp. The tonic is applied after washing your hair in which I use Thicker Fuller Hair Products line for washing my hair as well. Using the entire line is what helps I believe. The tonic is so easy to use and I love the easy pump with the easy to apply pump head that can get right into your scalp. My scalp feels great and I have no issues with dryness. I'm pleasantly surprised with how much I like this root lifting serum. I've used it about 5 times so far along with the shampoo and conditioner and found that together they really work. My hair, which was thin and limp actually looks thicker and more voluminous now. One of the things I love about this product is that it doesn't impede me from using other products that I had before. I always use Argan oil and I thought if I added this to my hair routine, my hair would end up looking greasy or oily. This has not proven to be the case; I still use the same amount of Argan oil, but have added a pump of the root lifting serum with no difference in appearance of my hair besides looking thicker. The texture of the product itself is gel like and kind of reminds me of aloe vera gel. It has a very mild light scent, almost non-existent so you don't have to worry about a strong perfume like smell. When my hair dries (via air or blow dry), I don't even notice that I've used it because it doesn't leave any traces behind. I love that it's made from organic quinoa and caffeine which I've read is very good for hair growth and stimulating follicles so it's good to see that there are quality ingredients used in the root lifting serum. It's also free from harsh chemicals so my hair is well protected. Overall, I'm very happy with this serum and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for more voluminous, thicker hair without the harsh chemicals and procedures.raomeenas

I was skeptical of this product at first, but after seeing some of the reviews here I decided to try it. I used this product with the Kaminomoto Medicated Shampoo. The combination of the two solved a few of my hair/scalp problems. First it cured my itchy/red scalp. I've had itchy/red scalp for YEARS, even after trying multiple shampoos. Kaminomoto shampoo worked for my scalp. Second, my hair started growing back, albeit slowly. After about 2 months of using the serum, I can see baby hairs growing near the edge of my hairline where it had previously receded. Honestly wish I discovered this product sooner. I have some health problems so minor hair loss is one things I've experienced with it. I don't use this as often as I should but I'm already seeing results of baby hairs growing. this has helped my self-esteem majorly as I've always thought I'm gonna go bald at such a young age. Always been envious of those that complain about baby hairs as I didn't have those and now I have them I can look in the mirror and play with my baby hairs. ok that sounded weird. anyways, it took time but being patient is key and the scent is almost nonexistent. This has been a godsend for me personally. It's also the only oil I've consistently repurchased. A little goes a long way so the large bottle lasts quite a while. It helps reduce frizz all over and leaves hair looking so healthy and shiny. Again, a little goes a long way, rub between hands well before applying. Definitely test out how much your hair needs because it won't be much. I digress. I let it set a bit before messing with my hair and my curls are so soft and so bouncy after. First, let’s talk initially how gorgeous this packaging is because I think we need to take a moment to appreciate it 😍 Initially as I opened the product the entire cap came off and I was wondering how to properly apply this product. I had no idea there was actually a pump because it’s hard to tell and you end up taking the entire cap off. After reading other reviews apparently I’m not the only one this has happened too. Not sure why that happens but it is alittle off putting however if you just pull up on the cap a pump is included for the product to be dispensed, I absolutely love the smell! It smells so good and is heavily scented if that’s not your thing. I used this on my hair two different ways. I applied it to mostly the ends when it was wet after a shower which I didn’t really like the way it made my hair feel. It didn’t feel like it was absorbing into my hair. I also used it dry on the ends and to help flyaways stay down as it was dry and I was blow drying and straightening. I didn’t notice any long term improvement to my hair after using this product but it does smell amazing and keep my frizz at bay. I have curly hair with lots of damage and I definitely need a good oil. I prefer a leave in conditioner but I definitely think a oil has a place in a hair care routine as well. For the price I probably wouldn’t repurchase this product but I definitely want to try other products from this company. I got this in a set with the Oribe Gold Lust Shampoo and Conditioner. I really do love the set and feel that they work as a whole to keep my hair silky. I have bleached hair and when using other hair care brands I feel like my hair feels very dry. With Oribe products, my hair feels healthy and rarely gets tangled unlike when using other brands. I tested out Briogeo's be gentle be kind set in the Banana scent and it not only did it dry out my hair, it also gave me A LOT of dandruff. Keep in mind that I have never once noticed dandruff in my hair before using Briogeo. Switched back to Oribe and my hair is as healthy as ever! No dandruff in sight.laura.c

I received a free sample of this, and I am actually going to shell out the full price for a bottle of it because I cannot believe the difference it has made. My hair is ridiculously fine, thin, straight, and long. My hair is easily weighed down, doesn't hold texture, doesn't hold volume, and looks greasy by the end of the day no matter what. I cannot skip a single shower, and I avoid using product in my hair in any way, shape, or form because not only will my hair look unwashed, stringy, and greasy (even with dry shampoo), but my scalp will break out. I can't even stray from the same shampoo/conditioner I've always used because my hair will freak out. All that to say– I cannot believe this product works on me. The ends of my hair dry out terribly, and in general my hair has not been in great shape. On the first use, my hair definitely felt softer, but after about a week of using this at night before bed, and every other day also putting some on the bottom half of my hair after a morning shower made my hair look and feel smoother, too. Tangled hair has been minimized, and brushing my hair is easier– less snags than usual. The oil does not have that viscous, sticky consistency that other treatments have, and doesn't have the weight and texture that make my hair limp. It is a very light oil that feels dry on contact, and does not alter the texture of my hair when applied, but the difference in softness is definitely felt. It also smells freaking amazing. 10/10, will actually buy, and would buy again! So far, I love this product. I have color-damaged, fine, wavy, long, blonde hair. This oil is fairly thick, but I'm impressed with it's ability to still be dispersed evenly throughout my hair. I use this product on the mid-shaft to ends of my hair while it is semi-damp/nearly dry, usually prior to blow-drying. I use a wide-tooth comb to ensure the product is evenly disbursed. Since using this product, I've noticed a reduction in my split ends and my hair feels smooth, soft and silky. A little bit of this product definitely goes a long way. Other reviewers with fine hair have mentioned that this product weighed their hair down – and I can confirm that while this product made my hair look much healthier, I did notice a reduction in volume. This is a heavier, more dense hair oil than others that I've used. If you are looking to use a hair oil & still maintain volume, I'd suggest a lighter hair oil like Kerastase or Opalex. Compared to Kerastase or Opalex hair oils, I have noticed that this Moroccanoil oil seems to last longer – I currently am on day 3 of my hair and applied a nickle-sized amount of this oil once before I blow-dried my hair on day 1, and my ends are still silky smooth & I have not had to reapply. Whereas when I have used Kerastase or Opalex hair oils in the past, I've had to apply them 1-2x daily to continuously see results. This product also makes my hair feel clean after use – with other hair oils, my hair has felt like it has a residue on it. There’s so many things to list out for this moroccanoil treatment serum that I love so very much! I love the smell! It’s very calming. I use it after my showers and lightly finger it throughout the mid and ends of my wet hair, then I take my wet-hair detangling brush and gently brush through my hair to detangle and distribute the product (serum). once my hair air drys (yes, I’m one of those people but my hair thanks me for it!) my hair looks like I’ve had a team of people working on it for hours. It’s incredibly soft, easy to manage, my natural waves are much more defined, my hair overall feels healthier and more resilient and finally, the scent lasts for several days and so do the results. Long term I feel as though this will be what my hair has been begging me for! I’ve let my beautiful momma borrow the bottle so that she can experience what I’ve been ranting and raving about for days now. Fun little tidbit: my moms hair is down past the back of her knees and she’s also around 5’5. After I'm done with procedures of bleach outs I use this on wet hair and put a little bit on my had rub both of my hands and work it thru the hair. To style and detangle the hair easier without pulling so much. You can use this product after you wash your hair. It helps to sealdends and to detangle. Bonacure Repair Rescue Sealed Ends is the best leave in conditioner for fine hair ever.. I have very fine hair and I wash and dry it everyday with a hairdryer, without this product my hair would be dry and damaged very quickly. You only need a small amount no larger then a 5 cent piece for short hair, rubbed in straight after you towel dry your hair. Then dry with your hairdryer followed by a light mist of Vapor Mist Hairspray and thats it – it wont cause your hair to become limp even in humid weather. A really good product and well worth the try. I would also like to mention that this company is offering this product at a really good price , my local haircare shop charges at least an extra $10 per tube, so if you buy at least a years supply like I do you wont be paying postage either. This is a great company to deal with, I have had no problems with my parcels arriving within a couple of days of my order – no waiting a week for things to arrive. This Elixir has been a game changer for me. As skeptical as I was I'm so glad I gave it a chance. About two years ago my hair completely stopped growing and it was always dry and unmanageable. I really like these products and wish I would have gotten the shampoo and conditioner when they were on sale. I have purchase a lot of expensive hair products for my daughter and myself only to be let down with the results. In the instructions of how to use this oil, it says to work it though hair after a blowout. Very often, I blow out my hair with the Dyson Airwrap round brush and self-grip rollers. Self-grip rollers have a tendency to pull at the hair and break off small strands. I definitely think this oil is great at smoothing those strands after the blow out. You don’t even have to use a full pump for the oil to do that job. With either 1 full pump or less, the oil smooths the hair without ruining the blow out or making it greasy. My hair gets greasy QUICKLY after washing, so I really enjoy that I can use this oil for blow outs & it doesn’t affect the time in which my hair usually starts getting greasy. Also in the instructions, it says you can use this oil in your hair before washing. I’ve done this a handful of times now. I find the oil dries down in a fair amount of time, so I like that I can douse my hair with multiple pumps, put it in a pony tail, and after about an hour, it looks normal enough to do do things that I don’t have to look really impressive for (ex: errands). However, I notice when I completely oiling my hair up with this, it’s rather drying in comparison to other oils. For instance, I also use the Shea Moisture 100% Argan Oil, which is much cheaper, and it gives my hair that smooth oily feel that I aim for prior to washing. With this oil, I find that myself going back and re-oiling my hair due to the dry feeling. Again, I’ve only used it as a prewash a handful of times, so I have NOT noticed yet that the dryness is a lasting affect after I wash. I haven’t tried this yet on wet hair. Overall, it’s great for blow outs since a small pump goes far and it is light weight. When using larger amounts, I notice the hair feels more than dry than oily, and I worry this will eventually affect the dryness of my hair. I feel that I can find a cheaper oil to smooth my hair after blowing it out.PastaPrincess69

This was so extremely disappointing, I even tried to give it the benefit of the doubt and used up the entire thing before giving my review. I honestly love so many Ouai hair products, their detox shampoo and scalp scrub are some of my absolute favorites! Unfortunately this was such a dud, I honestly cannot believe how many positive reviews this has received. First thing, the smell is atrocious. I like nice smelling products, and even if its unscented or a mild scent I usually don't mind but THIS! I could not get over the scent, its a very woody/herb/patchouli scent and its STRONG. Next issue I had with this is that it didn't really hydrate my hair, if anything it felt more dry after, it didn't really absorb and just sat on the hair looking wet/oily. Some hair oils I love for example are the Olaplex and Gisou hair oils!hailey.p

i got this in a free gift set of a lot of minis & samples and i didnt expect much from it at all; i have used many different hair oils before and never really "clicked" with any of them. i also didn't expect to even remember half the items i got in this sample kit because there were so many. this stood out enough for me to take a picture of the little sachet before throwing it out. i thought i accidentally used too much but even with me using a lot it didn't weigh my hair down at all. in fact it actually gave me more volume, somehow, and my hair usually gets flat & greasy quite quickly. it smells so nice and the scent is subtle but lingers all day. it made my hair look so glossy & thick. i will definitely be purchasing the full size soon.aj

I've been using this for over a year-I think I used it every day at first but the past 6 months or so I've dropped back to every other day since I don't wash daily. Anyways, this stuff really works. I had a mass falling-out event in a stressful time, which prompted me to try it. Since I started using it then I feel confident saying my hair thickness has increased by 1/4 from when I started. Much more dense for sure. I noticed baby hairs around 3 mos and then some density around 6 months, and now that it's grown into the length of my hair I really don't even know what to do with all of it now. I used this serum after every wash for 6 months and my hair regained all the thickness it had lost – I can see now the three inches of thick new growth I have all over. Hair became shinier, stronger, even thicker in stress picking areas from my teens I didn't even think I could target. In that time I also addressed the stress and the hormone imbalances because of the stress, ate better etc. I also started taking dong quai which really really helped. When that was taken care of, the hair started coming back THICK thick. I didn't think I'd need to repurchase another bottle and technically I don't but I have definitely noticed a difference in the quality of my hair since I've not been using it. I have very fine, slow growing blonde hair and have used umpty one products along the way to try to ‘help’ it along! Serums in the past have made my hair look dirty , greasy, heavy and basically rubbish. A friend couldn’t believe that I hadn’t tried GG so I bought some immediately! From the first wash with the balance shampoo and conditioner, I really liked how my hair felt. Added the serum according to instructions and dried my hair. Love this stuff! I’ve been using it off on for years for my long hair. It’s a nice thin texture definitely helps smooth frizz but doesn’t weigh my hair down. Has a light, pleasant scent. The price is moderate but a little goes a long ways! It can be used on damp or dry hair. I do recommend.laura.g

I love the Brazilian Blowout product line including the shampoo and conditioner. I had my first Brazilian blowout done in a salon and paid a decent penny for the treatment. After receiving a couple more treatments, I asked what products were being used and decided to buy them online. It's really easy to straighten your hair, just make sure the room is well ventilated. To maintain the soft, silky hair I use the Brazilian Blowout Shampoo and Conditioner on a daily basis. It's more expensive than the typical shampoo and conditioner, but a little goes a long way and I haven't been able to get the results from any other product line. Using the Brazilian shampoo and conditioner daily, extends the time between straightening treatments. From two to three months, I can wait four or more months. This stuff is pricey for me, yes, so I researched other reviews before landing here. I researched other dot coms (even making sure they were honest reviews by checking fakespot, etc.). I was using a harsh toning shampoo that I knew was going to do my hair in so I needed a SERIOUS treatment afterward I knew going in. I ordered this and – taking no chances – left it in for the directed time (after the predicted straw feeling due to the toning shampoo). My hair was so incredibly and unbelievably soft EVEN after heat drying I could hardly believe it. I did not wash my hair for THREE days I enjoyed the softness so much. The second time I used the toning shampoo I – was in a hurry – and only left it in a few (maybe 3 ) minutes. Once again, I 'needed' no oil afterward (but did use 5 drops of jojoba just in case as opposed to my usual 20) and AGAIN I was happily surprised. I have wavy, frizzy hair and this hair serum works great! I used it as directed (with a couple extra pumps for my thick hair) along with my usual leave-in conditioner. I dried and styled my hair as usual and there is a noticeable difference! My hair is silkier and less frizzy. I've used a lot of different hair serums, and I didn't expect this one to work so well. Cant say enough about this product!!!! IT IS AWESOME!!! Wish I would have found this stuff so much sooner. I have thick, coarse, unruly hair that is somewhat wavy, more like lumpy. It takes a lot of heat to style my hair. And then it's still frizzy and not so straight after using the highest heat setting on my hair dryer and straightener. Someone told me about this stuff. I ordered it thinking "great, another product to add to my collection." Well to my surprise, IT WORKED!!! I use it on my hair when wet, about 2 pumps. And then about 2 more pumps before I style when dry. Not greasy or oily at all. I use it every day. My hair loves it. It has transformed my hair , and it gets my hair straighter than it has ever been. Also works great when curling your hair. It works great with any hairstyle. No frizz, looks shiny and healthy, even helps on humid days. Why would you not want to try this stuff?? If it can help my hair, it's a winner!! Best hair oil I’ve come across! So lightweight but effective. I don’t even remember how I was introduced to this oil, but I am glad I was! Barely any scent. I've been using design. Me for 2yrs. I have yet to discover a better product. Like others mentioned I too have oily roots. The serum hasn't created more oiliness or greasy problems. I received this product complimentary from Designme. I love using this hair oil after I have washed, and air dried my hair and right before I style my hair. It is easy to apply it on my damp hair. I only need a few pumps and apply it evenly on my hair by going through my hair with my fingers. It has a silky smooth texture and goes on smoothly. I emailed the company asking whether this is safe to use if pregnant as I was concerned about the yarrow essential oil. I got a response saying it is and that there is 0.2% yarrow oil in it. I then wanted to clarify this with my obstetrician and she said not to use it as there has been an abundance of studies on the dangers of yarrow oil on pregnancy and breastfeeding. Not happy as I already used it a few times and rubbed it all over my scalp. Very disappointed with the advice given. I emailed Nourish Life about this and I don’t even get a refund as the product has been opened. How about the poor advice given? Surely that’s $45 worth of a refund if not more. Not happy.Belinda

I think this is a nice product for the hair. I've only had this for about a week, and therefore can't fully say if I'm seeing results from I think yet. However, I think it's doing a great job of adding much needed moisture to my dry hair (thanks accutane). The smell is a little bit funky, but I mix it with some Rahua finishing treatment and it goes on very nicely to my hair. This serum isn't really oily, so make sure it doesn't drop through your fingers. Also, this serum actually helps my hair curl/wave a little bit. My hair is fried. And like, I mean fried. So, receiving hair serums in my monthly box felt like a little bit of a blessing. To me, the most predominant smells were chamomile, sage, cedar, and orange. In case you have no olfactory imagination, that smells freaking heavenly. All promises of striking shine were fulfilled with a negligible amount of serum.
