20 Best Serums For Frizzy Hair (Jan 2023 Update)

I was hesitant to buy this because of the bad reviews, but it was on offer in my local store so I thought I would try it out. I have naturally straight (with a very slight wave) and thick hair and I have been dealing with frizz and fly aways because of the summer humidity and wet weather. I use this serum in conjunction with the dream lengths conditioner (not the shampoo as it makes me look oily), wonder water, and no hair cut cream. It makes my hair soft and shiny without weighing it down or making it look oily. It tames frizz and flyaways but over time I need to reapply on dry hair to smooth it out again. An added bonus is that it smells great and it offers heat protection which will help with preventing frizz too! Overall I think it's a good serum for my hair type, but I guess it might not work so well for others.Carys25

Enjoying this hair serum on my fly away baby hairs this summer. It gives my hair a nice shine and not too oily if the right amount is used. I do have thin hair so if I overdo it, this is too much. The only reason it’s 4 stars is because it doesn’t last long at taming frizz. I find myself going back to apply more after a few hours if I can for a refreshed hair look. Fantastic product. My hair was quite dry and frizzy, whilst the ends just looked dead and messy. I bought this and saw a massive difference in my hair condition from the offset. I use about 4 pumps throughout the lengths and it really smoothes the hair and makes it look so much healthier and shinier. This product was received as an incentive from Influenster for my honest review. WOW. I was not expecting to like this as much as I do! I’ve been using this product for a couple weeks now and it has already done wonders for my hair. I naturally have very coarse, thick, dry hair and use a litany of oils and deep conditioners to keep my hair maintained. I feel like using this product consistently may alleviate that. This oil is on the thicker side, (which helps weigh down my thick hair- in a good way) and initially smells fruity / clean but somehow dries down to a more masculine clean scent (which I prefer for my hair). I have dry, bleach dyed blonde hair and the humidity makes my hair so frizzy and tangled. It has a natural smell that didn’t bother me and the texture wasn’t too thick, thin, or oily. I think I found another go to product to help tame this mane. I loved the frizz-free results that stopped frizz at my hairline without making my hair greasy (AMAZEBALLS), but whew, the smell is awful. Luckily the smell goes away after thirty minutes or so. I have medium thick 2B wavy/ curly frizzy hair and I have one heck of a time trying to get my hair under control. I used this, in combination with the Dyson Airwrap, Verb Ghost oil (for shine), Verb Ghost hairspray (for hold), and IGK Good Behavior Smoothing Balm. I was pretty impressed by the results. For an amateur it was an easy at home blow out, and my results have held for 3 days without my hair looking greasy or wild. If you are on the fence I would say try it if you can get past the smell for the amazing results. I like the John Frieda Frizz Ease Serum (Extra Strength) because it contains my favorite organ oil, which is really moisturizing for my hair! I have naturally straight hair, but I permed it into wavy hair. After that my hair is always frizzy and dry. My hair becomes more moisturizing, shiny and more controllable after I found this hair serum, and it’s a lot less frizzy. I always apply this hair serum on my wet hair after shampoo, and it works wonder after a few uses. I like that it’s not greasy, and it’s paraben free! For best result, use it on wet hair, and let it air dry. You can also apply it before you use any hair styling products or heating tools to promote the silky touch and frizz free hair look. I have been using John Frieda frizz ease extra strength serum since 2007. It was my go-to hair product, and I swore by it. I used it every day and definitely spent a lot of money on the serum over the years because it was so good. This new formula does not work the same way, it does not remove frizz, it is way thinner, it leaves a greasy consistency in the hair. It's so disappointing. Now I have to find a new serum to replace John Frida extra strength, which really makes me sad because I was so loyal to the serum and the company. While I do like the new eco-friendly bottle, the new formula is way inferior to the old formula, and not worth the money. Unfortunately, I will need to find a new serum that works more like the old formula, and finally part ways with John Frieda after 15 years. 🙁dustylacson

I smoothed a quarter sized amount through my wet hair after showering, making sure I worked it in really well and covering my tips. This stuff is amazing to use on your hair after treating it with your favourite shampoo and conditioner from the Sebastian range (I use it with Hydre) but also works well no matter what shampoo and conditioner you use! I have also tried it with Wella and it still gives me the same results… an amazing sleek head of hair with natural shine that isn't too oily (as it contains avocado oil). With previous leave-in treatments I would find that they'd leave my hair feeling too greasy if I went one day without washing it just for its overall health, but with Sebastian Taming Elixir in it just feels healthy and silky smooth. I also get compliments on how healthy it looks and feels, its given my coloured hair a new lease on life really! LOVE THIS SERUM SO MUCH! I always apply it when my hair is damp. This method has helped me untangle my hair a lot faster pain free. I've used this product for years and I adore it! Unfortunately, Walmart is the only place I can find it. Sometimes I cannot even find it in store. I recently ordered 12 bottles via their website. This is probably the best serum i have ever tried on my frizzy dry hair. It's not sticky or has that oily feeling when applied onto your hair. I used this on my clients who had the coarse texture that needed something to smoothe down frizz, add shine and promote softness. I have to say I figured this product was the exact same as bio silk oil essentially, it smelled similar actually but it’s thicker and more hydrating and doesn’t just sit on the surface. This isn’t exactly my favorite hair oils, I’m definitely devoted to my olaplex #6 and my olaplex no.7 bonding oil. Sometimes I mix them together, sometimes I just use the no.7 but this oil is one that actually penetrates the hair and doesn’t just sit on the surface. It softens coarse hair, from the inside out instead of making it feel more greasy with build up. I didn’t think this was a bad product by any means, but their formula isn’t anything new or innovative. The olaplex no.7 treats and repairs the bonds in your hair while moisturizing and hydrating split ends, design essentials isn’t anything to write home about. The serum performed well on both my straight hair as well as my daughters curly hair. It also performed well when she used a straightener to straighten her hair. We both tried the serum on towel dried hair a few times and then on dry hair a few other times as well as on both air dryed and heat styled hair and the results were all equally satisfying. I've been using the Velvet Mesquite Serum for a few weeks now, and it's the answer to my prayers. I've been using prednisone to treat a lingering sinusitis/bronchitis infection, and it's left my hair in horrible shape. I've always had nice, healthy hair but I just turned 54 and I think menopause is starting to rear its ugly head. My mother bought this for me she was swearing that NCBH Was so much better then the bumble&bumble products we'd been using. I first switched to the DIVA shampoo/conditioner, which by the way when I smelled it in the bottle I didn't like it but once I used it w/ Diva versastyler or GLITZY styling glaze I loved it. fyi, I also use this serum. The order in which I use my Nick C products are 1. wash/condition 2. Then I added this serum to my hair and I have EXTREMELY thin and baby fine hair that very easily gets oily and gets gooped up with products, not with these products BUT expierement on how much you need to use. A little goes a long way. I use the DIVA shine spray before using a heat tool. I use this serum daily when my hair is wet and then after its dry. At night before bed i use more and my hair is never greasy, never heavy. I recurved this product free for testing through Influencer, to provide my honest opinion. I have fine, thinning… and I mean thinning, genetic hair loss! I was my hair every other day and applied this in the schedule. That I have also colored with stylists over the past 5 years. This product was sent several months before the launch packaging is beautiful, I'm a sucker for good packaging. It is slightly fragment, I personally enjoyed the smell, slightly herbal. I was interested in the southing properties as I tend to have a dry and itchy scalp during the cold New England winters. The Ouai serum did help with that tremendously, very little itch, irritation or flakiness, like previous years. I did notice most days I used it that my hair appeared a bit fuller, especially if I styled with hear tools. I don't know if it helped my hair grow or perfect shedding necessarily which is why I docked one star. I would decently recommend for those with itchy it irritated scalps, or those looking for a boost if fullness, I think it's the ingredients lifting your hair, again not that I saw hair growth but I feel like my hair felt healthier. QUAI SCALP SERUM I like this serum because it’s completely vegan, cruelty free, gluten free, paraben free and phathalate free, SLS & SLES free. I smells nice and not greasy like one might think. Best of all, easy to apply. The container contains a very nice dropper. The presentation of the bottle is simple, but elegant. I accidentally dropped it and it didn’t break or crack, so it’s made of strong glass. Improvements: My scalp feel less irritated and healthy. In my case, I have dry scalp that comes and goes, and this serum helps minimize dandruff. While using, I noticed less and less flakes and eventually, none. My hair feels healthier and fuller. I received this product complementary from Influenster and OUAI in exchange for my honest opinion. Just over a month ago, I received this product free from Influenster. Since the new year, I’ve been getting much more into hair and skin products. I’m not getting any younger, so I’m trying to look my best and move into my 40s with grace. I really like the scent of this product, which is kind of minty and is familiar but I could not quite pin it down. If nothing else, your hair will smell great after applying this. The product is applied via a medicine dropper type bulb and applicator. i’m honestly not too sure what I think about this. From the beginning, I always felt like it was not getting enough product into the dropper and had to make multiple goals to get enough to saturate my scalp. In the end I just kind of gave up and came to terms that I would have to go multiple times to do the job. However, I can see why they don’t want you to do it with your fingers, as the shape of the bottle is not conducive for that. The bottles made of glass, but they might want to rethink it and make it into a squeeze bottle with a nozzle, kind of like how you would apply hair dye. I received this product during a time when I dyed my hair twice and pretty much fried my hair. I am going gray in front and getting the color to saturate has been a challenge. This has caused hair breakage and damage. I was able to use his products and apply it to the edges and widows peak of my hair. I feel like after use, but my scalp was not as Ollie but still moist. First of all, the scent is beautiful, kind of similar to a salon type of fragrance. It is very high-quality, and helps to deeply smoothen and moisturizes my hair strands. The packaging is very convenient with the comfortable pump top. I think every age can benefit from this, even teenagers and older children. I was skeptical of this product at first, but after seeing some of the reviews here I decided to try it. I used this product with the Kaminomoto Medicated Shampoo. The combination of the two solved a few of my hair/scalp problems. First it cured my itchy/red scalp. I've had itchy/red scalp for YEARS, even after trying multiple shampoos. Kaminomoto shampoo worked for my scalp. Second, my hair started growing back, albeit slowly. After about 2 months of using the serum, I can see baby hairs growing near the edge of my hairline where it had previously receded. Honestly wish I discovered this product sooner. This was the first straightening product anyone ever used on my hair when I was about 10 or 11 years old. I bought Frizz Ease extra strength thinking it would tame the frizz I have. No, it does not. I washed my hair as usual and followed the instructions on the bottle of Frizz Ease. My initial impression was shock over how sticky it made my wet hair feel. Moved on to blow drying my hair (I have a Dyson AirWrap) after applying a blow dry leave in. Post blow dry it is still so sticky I am unable to run my fingers through my hair, my hair is MORE frizzy than usual and my ends feel crispy and fried. I haven't ever had crispy dry hair using the AirWrap with any other products, my hair has never felt sticky and I have always been able to run my fingers through my hair. I will be returning this and sticking with Argan oil which does a MUCH better job at smoothing frizz and doesn't leave my hair sticky or dried out.Tammy

Recently I have been struggling with alot of frizz in my hair which started right after having a C section but since I have got to know about this amazing 4-in-1 hair serum John Frieda Extra Strength 6 Effects+ Serum, I must say I have noticed visible difference in how my hair looks and feels. This product is amazing for anyone who has curly or wavy hair. We typically have to handle frizzy hair and this product helps tame it ! What I love about this product is that it leaves you hair feeling smooth and makes it shining with out leaving a gross greasy feeling. The product is also a heat protectant! Sometimes we get so used to eating the same foods and wearing the same style for years strait. Im not sure if the ingredients are the same or the brand of an individual resource used in creating the bed head serum have changed. I can say something has changed either the product or the state of control my hair is in this day in age. The serum does not hold up as well or long as it did when I first started using the product. Even in the strongest outdoor winds the serum used to hold my hair together like it should for hours. Now after 8 years of continuous use Im finding that the flyways no longer stay in place or the lustrous shine shows in my hair. I am switching using a few different products that claim to produce the value of the description. Price wise I can not complain as I paid 15.98 plus tax at Walmart when they carried it 8 years ago. Now the price is almost cut in half I often question the consistency of the ingrediencies going into making the serum have declined. Walmart quit selling it as well as all the other salons and stores.Anonymous

I have To say I was Very skeptical using this because I have Read very mixed reviews. I love it!!! I have Very curly hair. It made my hair soft, straight without being that weird pin straight and shiny! I highly Recommend this product! Also it was a mix of rain and snow today and my hair didn't frizz or get weird!!!Heidi

I have used hair serums to protect my hair from heat since I was young since it is so fine. I also have frizzy and curly hair so it can be challenging to tame it if the products are not a . This product is by far the worst experience I have had with a hair serum and/or heat protectant. I do not even believe it should be called a serum. The consistency is that of a HAIR GEL, and dries almost faster than a hair gel, this makes the application incredibly difficult when the instructions say to "work it through your hair", which then got more knotted than if I had not done anything with it for over 4 days. I pushed on though to attempt to straighten my hair, which it did not feel like it was protecting anything. It did not help with frizz either, it made it worse than it normally is. I will never use this product again, may not even give the company's products a second chance either. So sad that it was such a waste of money.The Analyst

*BEST* hair serum there is! My hair just loves it! This is the second bottle I’ve bought. This serum makes my hair the softest and shiniest. The scent is nice, flowery, and very gentle and subtle. It does not make my hair greasy nor sticky. I apply a small amount every morning (on dry hair) and after hair wash (on wet hair). It tames frizz and makes my hair manageable, especially during highly-humid weather (my hair’s very sensitive to humidity). Nice sized bottle with pumper. I bought it because of its composition: it contains argan oil (the best oil for hair), silicones and Isopropyl myristate that I found out that it makes my hair the softest. Extremely moisturizing. I didn't like this spray at first, but it def grew on me, here to order more. It literally is the only thing I can find that works for static fly away for my thin hair. DO NOT spray it directly on scalp area, it will leave ur hair feeling dirty. I use it on dry hair and mist the sides lightly using my hand to slide down my hair so that its in evenly. I do have to carry it with me to work as I find it needs a second application due to wearing my winter coat and sweaters, friction etc. gets my hair all re-staticy. It really is a winter staple for me.Charity

Ive been coloring my natural blond hair every color of the rainbow for the past 20years. I also use a nice $200+flat iron to straighten the waves. So my hair is already prone to frizz, and the damage from the dye & heat doesn't help. After I get my hair straight, it's still puffy and doesn't look good. This product was recommended by an Ulta consultant. I like to have my long hair (about eight inches past my shoulders) smooth and straight. It is like hay and very frizzy even when it's not humid. When I worked in Florida and other parts of the south and lived on the coast in California I never found a product that would tame my hair. This product works for me. I have used it during the Arizona monsoons, on a boat excursion in San Francisco and in Ft. Bragg where it is very humid and damp. I don't use it per the instructions on the container. I wash my hair, blow it out with a brush (at this point it is still very frizzy), then use a flat iron (before the humidity gets to it, this is what it should look like), then I immediately spray some in my hands and run them through my hair (don't use so much that it dampens the hair). Optionally I use a curling iron on the top most layers to give it a dressier look. I sometimes use hairspray to hold the curls in place. When I comb out the hairspray it stays smooth. Then my hair is never frizzy until I wash it two or three days later.Review

Love this stuff! I’ve been using it off on for years for my long hair. It’s a nice thin texture definitely helps smooth frizz but doesn’t weigh my hair down. Has a light, pleasant scent. The price is moderate but a little goes a long ways! It can be used on damp or dry hair. I do recommend.laura.g

I love the Brazilian Blowout product line including the shampoo and conditioner. I had my first Brazilian blowout done in a salon and paid a decent penny for the treatment. After receiving a couple more treatments, I asked what products were being used and decided to buy them online. It's really easy to straighten your hair, just make sure the room is well ventilated. To maintain the soft, silky hair I use the Brazilian Blowout Shampoo and Conditioner on a daily basis. It's more expensive than the typical shampoo and conditioner, but a little goes a long way and I haven't been able to get the results from any other product line. Using the Brazilian shampoo and conditioner daily, extends the time between straightening treatments. From two to three months, I can wait four or more months. This stuff is pricey for me, yes, so I researched other reviews before landing here. I researched other dot coms (even making sure they were honest reviews by checking fakespot, etc.). I was using a harsh toning shampoo that I knew was going to do my hair in so I needed a SERIOUS treatment afterward I knew going in. I ordered this and – taking no chances – left it in for the directed time (after the predicted straw feeling due to the toning shampoo). My hair was so incredibly and unbelievably soft EVEN after heat drying I could hardly believe it. I did not wash my hair for THREE days I enjoyed the softness so much. The second time I used the toning shampoo I – was in a hurry – and only left it in a few (maybe 3 ) minutes. Once again, I 'needed' no oil afterward (but did use 5 drops of jojoba just in case as opposed to my usual 20) and AGAIN I was happily surprised. I normally don't go crazy enough for a product to review it with such vigor but this one is the solution to straw hair – hands down. (OH and the smell is delightful and clean.)
