However, the top itself never closed tightly again. This is the best curly friendly conditioner I've found so far on this site. I need a lot of product but I feel like my 2C/3A hair is much more manageable with this than with other conditioners. The downside: this is the weirdest smelling product I've ever used on my head ever. First sniff is something resembling dill pickles. It then morphs into a kind of old man's cologne, like the musky kind that's overpowering. Only to settle on a very floral mix of the previous two scents. I have no other way to explain it. . . I have been on the hunt for a natural shampoo and conditioner that wouldn't weight down my curls and so far so good with this product. The only con I would give it is that the natural smell could be off-putting for some – myself I can deal with natural, herbal smells better than fake perfume scents. This shampoo lathers well for being sulfate free and I only need about a pump and a half for my hair, which is almost down to my chest. It rinses cleanly and I follow it with the conditioner and my hair is left really soft and my waves stand out even without putting gel or mouse in it – although I often do have to style it with some sort of product but that is just the way my hair is. I would recommend this to people with wavy to curly hair for sure. My hair is long and thick and frizzy and I feel like this has helped to tame some of the frizz. This conditioner is amazing! Of all the conditioners I’ve ever used (I’m in my 20’s so I’ve been through a looot of conditioners!) this one is by far the best. I don’t need a huge amount of it to get my hair untangled, and when I do brush through it I barely have any tangles at all. Okay, at first I was suspicious about this product because I really only knew Sun Bum for their sunscreen so I was a little confused seeing they did products for hair. But guys…this product is AMAZING. As someone who constantly buys products to help her curly hair, this has been a life changer. I bought this on a whim because I was like, what's the harm in another product supposedly for curly hair? Boy was I surprised!! I used to cowash because I was having such a hard time keeping my hair from getting frizzy but as a consequence my roots would get kinda greasy and sometimes my curls didn't look as hydrated as the cowash would advertise. I'm going to try to explain this in a way that makes since… ok stay with me. For the longest time the only way I could wash my hair was in the shower because it allowed my hair to flow in the natural direction (towards the back). I couldn't sink wash anymore because flipping my hair in the reverse direction (towards the front, forehead) would knot and tangle my hair. Detangling would always be a headache after sink washes, so eventually I gave up. Before this product I would have to use an abundance of conditioner just to detanagle my hair. BUT BAAABY!!! this shampoo right HERE!!!! I can now shampoo my hair in the sink again and easily detangle it without conditioner! This for me is a big deal because it allows me to cleanse my hair any time of day I want and not solely around showers. ( I know it may not mean much to some, but there's a method to my madness). My hair is very manageable after using this shampoo. It smells great too. Let me also add that my hair was slightly damaged prior to using this (plus other Mane choice products) and my curls are BACK and popping! These products have brought my hair back to life I couldn't be happier.

This is really fantastic shampoo. My hair has been really prone to getting tangled lately and since I've been using this shampoo it's been much easier to comb. It's also one of the few shampoos that entirely gets rid of my frizz. My hair stays very soft for days afterwards. The only reasons I didn't give it five stars is because it isn't available in a bigger bottle like most brands have. Most brands have a regular size bottle and a 'jumbo' size one. I found this to be an excellent light conditioner. I have 3 b hair that I bleach and dye fun colors so my hair is a bit damaged, but this product line has been really nice to my hair. The conditioner isn't going to be great for anyone with type 4 hair or above, but it is excellent for waves and 3 type curls because of how light weight it is. I wash my hair once or twice a week. I wash, rinse, condition, detangle, leave on for 5-10 minutes, rinse. I usually put the leave in conditioning treatment from Chi on after but while I am still in the shower. Cake's Curl Girl is definitely designed to lure in people like me who 1) Love the color pink ~ the bottle & writing are pink and so is the shampoo! 2) Want their shampoo & their hair to smell good ~ the scent is my VERY FAVORITE thing about this shampoo! There's, in fact, something about the warm pink color of this shampoo combining with the fact that it smells like licorice that has completely drawn me in ~ I'm probably hooked for life! And that's even with it not being the best shampoo I've ever used! Maybe I got a bad batch smell-wise, but mine smells like plastic and a really bad cake-scented toy. It's very chemical and fake smelling to me, and I'm disappointed as heck in the scent. As far as the performance, it doesn't do much better in that department for my hair. My hair felt simultaneously dry and covered in residue after use. It says something on the bottle about keeping your hair cleaner for longer, but my hair looked greasy after only a few short hours when I used this. I have frizzy , fine hair and the davines love smoothing shampoo really helps a lot with the smoothing process even before I use styling aids. This range is Rich in fatty acids and vitamins, I always want products that have a lot to offer. The formula has a high percentage of biodegradable ingredients. The davines brand is also sulphate free so people that have Brazilians or any color/ chemical treatment done can use it. The packaging is reusable. This is the best shampoo I have ever used! I received a sample of it in my subscription box and was amazed at the fact that it had more then one use in it! The shampoo spread nicely which is why there was more then one use in it. I have long hair too! It made my hair soft and shiny and healthy looking! It's hard to do that with my dry, brittle hair. Just got my Black Friday order 3 days ago (amazing deal, by the way) and have washed and styled my hair twice with the Curly system and I absolutely love it! I used to have nearly perfectly straight hair through my teens and early 20's then noticed the texture started to change into my 30's and beyond (I'm 41 now). I was super bummed because I always used to get compliments on my hair growing up, but as it changed it just seemed to be frizzy and crazy unless I used a straightener. I decided to start using various drugstore styling products for wavy/curly hair and had decent results, but it seemed like every time I thought I had a good combo of products, one or two of the items would stop being made or stocked and I'd be back to square one. For the last couple of years I've been starting with spraying a fair amount of sea salt spray to my damp hair to add volume followed by a curl defining spray that I would scrunch in before diffusing. I got compliments on my hair again, but it always seemed a bit dry to me, and if I ran my hands through my hair I would feel a salty residue. I felt there had to be something better for me…I have been seeing ads for LUS on Facebook for at least the past year or so, and was always intrigued, but still too apprehensive to commit to spending a bit more on my hair care, regardless of all of the amazing reviews. However, when I woke up the day after Thanksgiving and saw the awesome deal LUS was offering for such a large bundle of products I immediately placed my order. All I can say is WOW. I feel like it came out nearly perfect on the first try!! My hair is so soft, grit-free, and bouncier and shinier than with my old routine. It really does not take much product at all, at least for my fine hair. I divided my hair into 8 sections and only used either a partial pump or a full pump of the styling product on each (depending on the thickness of the section); made sure to use the great spray bottle to keep my hair damp, scrunched and arranged my hair, then used my diffuser like normal. The application of product took a bit of time, maybe 10 minutes, then the diffusing was another 5-10, but as I get more used to the routine I think it will go even faster. I have been using the 3-step system exactly as instructed for a month and my hair is limp, the curls are weighted down a good 3 inches from the scalp and frizzy. In short, my hair looks horrible. I have tried using less conditioner than instructed, more and less product, and everything in between. The all-in-one styling product is essentially a light leave in conditioner that does not hold my curl shape or provide any manageability or hold whatsoever. I have fine 2C/3A hair and after a month of using this product system it looks like I have frizzy hair with a bonus of zero lift or volume. No thank you. My hair looked fine the first two times I used it, but has gotten progressively worse with each shampoo, condition, and styling. If you have fine hair, stay away from this product. Even though the hair quiz will say it will work for your hair, it will not. I'm sure if you have thick, coarse hair that is 4A-C, this is great. If not, user beware.Stephanie P.
BEWARE – they do not have a satisfaction guarantee. If you try the product and are unhappy with the results, you are just stuck with it. I have 2C curls, and tried the 3 step system in Curly – based on my test results. My hair is extremely healthy, I have been using sulfate, paraben, silicone free products for over 5 years. I do not use heat or color treat my hair, and it is trimmed regularly. I have had a TON of success with the DivaCurl products, but wanted to try something new to see what else was out there. After two weeks of use with the LUS 3 step system I purchased, I was not getting the results that I had hoped for. My hair had this dirty/sticky feeling to it after it dried. Definitely not silky looking or feeling at all. I altered how I used the product thinking I was not using enough water, or perhaps using too much product, but no matter what I did, I had the same results. One pump of product applied in the shower with TONS of water, and my mid length hair still dried and felt dirty/sticky. My hair has much better results with NO product at all, compared to my results using the LUS set. Reached out to customer service to see if it would be possible to return product for a refund and was told that was not an option. They do not offer returns or credits on any type of open product. I actually really like this conditioner. The first time I bought it, I didn't. I decided to give it another try and k actually really like it. I use it as a rinse out and when I "squish to condish". I feel more comfortable using this for squish to condish rather than a normal rinse out conditioner because those are not meant to be left in the hair and this one is. I do rinse this out though. I really wanted to love this product and I did in the first month of using it. I applied it in the shower and brushed through it really easily, it helped revive my waves, and I really liked the smell. Unfortunately after about a month of use I started noticing really bad dandruff at the front of my hairline, big dandruff flakes, and the nape of my neck was itch. Then I started getting this weird buildup on my hair after the shower. My hair just felt really tacky, when I tried to brush through it, it got tangled immediately because it was sticking to itself, I even noticed some white buildup on my brush. So the next time, I washed the brush, washed my hair with a clarifying shampoo, and made sure to wash out the conditioner well…really well. And it still left this really sticky gross buildup on my hair. It was almost impossible to even run my fingers through. I shampooed my hair twice with a clarifying shampoo and went back to one of my old conditioners and my hair is pretty much back to normal. There is still maybe one part that is still a little sticky/tacky so I'll have to wash it again. Maybe this works for some people, it just didn't work for me. I really like Not Your Mother's products but this particular one didn't quite make the cut. I love how they are free of alcohol, silicones, phthalates, sulfates and dyes. This can be used as a leave in conditioner, rinse out or just as a co-wash. It does enhance my curls and give some definition but my hair is so oily the next day, I have to wash it. I have been buying Dove shampoo and conditioner for many years from Sam's. Dove has changed the smell and the formula. My hair actually looks oily after I blow it dry. I have fine thin hair and the old formula always worked well for me. My hair would blow out to be light and bouncy. This new formula just weighs it down. We placed a delivery order recently with Wal*Mart a few items were delivered from our local store. They left the order at our door left before we realized it was the wrong order. Because of covid, they don't accept any returns of local delivery orders, so they let us ( I guess the person who got our stuff) keep it for free! I normally love this brand, but this shampoo was junk. The charcoal separated from shampoo, no matter how hard I shock. So I'd get gel and black in diff handfuls. After rinsing out, the charcoal would stay in my hair and stain items I laid my head on. Keep in mind I'm very thorough at rinsing and separate hair to make sure everything is out. The black was stubborn. Not only did it separate, not rinse well and stain, it also didn't make my hair feel clean at all. I can't say if it helps color treated hair. But, when they "fancied up" their packaging, they cheapened down their products and they aren't what they used to be. I got the Husk curl care detangling conditioner and it left my hair easy to manage. The consistency of the conditioner was just right. Not too thick but not too runny. It applied well and evenly to my hair. The conditioner coated the strands and wasn't messy. I usually let conditioner sit on my hair with a plastic cap for 10-20 minutes. I was able to comb through my hair with minimal tangles and the small ones I had were easy to get through. My hair felt soft and moisturized. Aveda products have a great reputation and is a well known stable product. I tried this shampoo for approximately 6 months and it didn't suit my curly/wavy hair. Nice looking professional packing that smells delightful. Unfortunately I am unable to list and visible benefits to the appearance/texture of my hair so promptly stopped using it. So sorry to say this isn't for me, we are all different. I would recommend try before you buy if possible. I personally will not be using again. I recommend so much! I would love to keep up with this product. It lathers like a lot. Suds galore! It's so light weight , all you have to do is lather for a few minutes to help stimulate your scalp for better results. A little goes a long way! Simple packing for this brand really sold it for me, and the reviews. I have noticed my hair is fuller and new hair growth where my hair had been pulled out by a tight ponytail. Don't do what I did! Many products claim to smooth one's hair and make it silky soft. As one gets a bit older (me) frizz becomes a bigger battle. I have tried many shampoo and conditioners and nothing ever seems to work, until I tried Keranique. After wrapping my hair up in the towel when I got into the shower, my comb and hair usually get into a major battle, with Keranique my comb and hair were at a peaceful gathering. I allowed my hair to dry naturally and the curls came together without any stragglers fighting to get away. It is a miracle with my crazy hair!Tiffany C
I have to add that I really if never do reviews, but this omg I had to do it. I was looking for a shampoo and conditioner system that cleanses and moisture whit out leave grease or drying my hair. After use feels bouncy and healthy. I can't believe this exists! After trying all the expensive one salon grade like Pureology, Redken, chi, u name it. I have fine texture curly hair medium blonde. Also I stopped shedding and my hair does not fall out while I washed like the other shampoos. A lil goes long way and I can stay 3 days between washes looking good.Elizabeth

I usually deal with a very frizzy and unruly hair that is just too stubborn. This shampoo is the product that I did not know I need it. This shampoo works well on frizzy hair. It cleans really really well. My hair feels clean without being stripped. Smells so so delicious! It rinses off without a residue! It nourishes my hair and makes it soft. My curls have become so so bouncy and defined, I am literally loving it. My hair is no longer frizzy which is amazing. This is a great shampoo. I will definitely repurchase! Standing in the shower, on the first wash, my hair definitely didn't feel clean. The Curl Charisma didn't remove any of the products I had previously used during the week. Using a cleansing shampoo, I was able to get rid of any buildup. Then, I shampooed again with the Curly Charisma. It is a very thin shampoo and doesn't suds up (which I was kind of disappointed with after my first/second wash). Finally, I was ready for the Curly Charisma conditioner. It's thick and creamy. Worked through my hair and let it sit while was washed. Honestly, my hair may not have been in need of the rice amino and avocado hydration the shampoo and conditioner claim they have. My curls weren't limp by any stretch of the imagination but I felt like they were at vivacious and voluminous as always. I only purchased the 8oz. bottles. So, I may try again but I won't feel bad if I end up tossing. For context, I live in Utah (dry climate) and have very curly blonde hair. Love the Curly Charisma Co-wash. As others have commented, this shampoo is very drying. I noticed my hair felt dry (not stripped; but dry) after the very first wash. But, I have to be honest, my curls looked amazing! So much so that I went out the next week and bought the matching conditioner. But over time my hair just got drier and drier and eventually felt like straw after each wash. After about 4 weeks my hair was extremely dry all the time and had significantly more frizz. By 6 weeks I was noticing much more shedding and my curls were stringy and limp. . I tried everything to fix it. Different stylers. More frequent clarifying etc.. but my curls were falling flat and the frizz was out of control. I finally had to admit it was the shampoo. I stopped using this about 2 weeks ago and switched to the Shine shampoo and conditioner by Curlsmith. I saw an immediate improvement. Curls came back; frizz is better. It will take time to undo the damage from this shampoo but I'm so glad I stopped using it. If you hair truly, truly needs protein (like a lot of protein) then this could work great for you. But it was definitely damaging to my hair.Chris

It's a little expensive running about 10 to 11 dollars a bottle. Im Telling you though it's worth it. It's not just for curly hair either. I have straight hair that can get messy and this product can tame the beast. There is no oily feeling afterwards just clean soft hair. I definitely recommend trying this product. I’m one to put conditioner on my hair and leave it on for 5-20 minutes depending on how I feel. My hair feels absolutely amazing when I use the conditioner. I’ve tried to stay away from coconut oil products but this product is great. Would defiantly recommend this to any curly girl! I love the pump it makes it easy to use especially since I wash my hair in the sink and water often runs over my eyes. The packaging is super cute and the coconut image across the top band let me know without having to read that there is coconut something in it. My hair did feel a lot softer after I used it. I have a sensitive nose so I can’t use some products because of the smell. This scent wasn’t too overpowering, I actually thought it was pretty good. My hair even stayed moisturized when I was twisting my hair. Usually by the time I get to the front of my hair it’s dry simply because how long it takes me to get to it, but even with my hair not feeling wet to touch, it still felt moisturized.eliza.s
This shampoo does wonders for my natural hair. I love the creamy to sudsy consistency, it really makes me feel like the product is getting deep into my scalp and hair shafts. I bought this shampoo with the expectation of finding a Clarifying shampoo that cleansed extremely well without sulfates and this does the job. This is not a moisturizing shampoo. That said I've never found it to be overly drying either. I only use it to wash the first round and then if I still need a second wash I move to the coconut cowash. The cowash is very rich and moisturizing so replenishes any oils/moisture that may have been cleansed away in the Clarifying wash. When I wash with the Clarifying shampoo, I make sure to section in 4 parts and apply the shampoo only at the roots of my hair. I don't mush my hair around so that all of my hair is saturated with shampoo or smooth the shampoo through so it coats all of the strands, there's no need. I massage and cleanse the scalp and roots, then as I'm rinsing I rub straight down the length of the hair while it's under water. The length of the hair is cleansed as it rinses from the scalp and these strands do not get overly cleansed. Once that's rinsed I either use the coconut cowash, or just move on to a deep conditioner to add moisture. Also applying the conditioner in sections and letting it sit for 15 min while steam from the shower helps it do it's magic. I then smooth it through thoroughly and rinse and detangle during that rinse. The hair is usually clean, soft and moisturized. I have dry scalp and this shampoo and method of application does an excellent job of removing scalp residue and product build up. If you don't like overly squeaky clean hair this method and/or shampoo may work for you. You still get the benefits of the clarifying shampoo without it overly saturating all of your hair and causing dryness. This shampoo may not be for everyone, but IMHO the bad rep it gets is not well deserved. It definitely does what it claims and if used sparingly and with a moisturizing follow up, it's pretty close to perfect for the purpose it was intended. For that reason I hope it's not discontinued any time soon. I think As I Am does a great job by providing 3 shampoo options, so everyone has something that suits there needs. If you think the Clarifying is a little too much try the cleansing pudding, it's technically not a clarifying shampoo, but it does cleanse away product build up. I'm not an As I Am rep. I've just been using several of the products for about 3 years now and have had good success with them.
The shampoo definitely does its job. I feel like it really gets rid of all the build-up, the hair feels clean, albeit somewhat stripped.
