20 Best Shampoo And Conditioner For Aging Hair (Jan 2023 Update)

Well.ca was kind enough to send me a deluxe sample size of this shampoo and conditioner. I didn’t know anything about this brand before trying it out. While I was blow drying my hair and lightly styling it with a ceramic-barrelled round brush, I noticed my hair was much shinier and thicker and was very easy to style. It really did behave more like my hair when I was much younger. I don’t know how often I would actually buy the full size of the shampoo and conditioner with their prices but maybe I’ll treat myself occasionally and keep these products to myself (my daughter already has young, beautiful hair!! Lol) so they last a bit longer. Love everything, but the price does make it hard to justify.DaniHMcV

My hair tends to be very finicky about shampoos, but this one definitely worked wonders for me! This was my first time trying a shampoo from the brand and I was pleasantly surprised. It definitely helped moisturize and add a lot of lift/bounce without leaving any residue behind or any squeaky clean type of feeling which generally means the hair has been stripped. I have had thinning hair for about 2 years (likely due to combination of age, stress, menopause, etc) and literally a handful fell out everyday. To preface. I'm a 25 female. Natural light brown hair, bleached low maintenance blonde. Thick wavy frizzy hair that reaches the lower bottom of my back. Prone to split ends and breakage at the bottom of my hair. No extensions. I wanted to add this so people with similar hair types can relate. So to start, I'm so torn on this shampoo… I tried it for 3 weeks and I do like that this shampoo and conditioner cuts down on my overall frizz and made my hair so much smoother and less likely to tangle which is exactly what I was looking for. BUT there is some things about this shampoo I just can't ignore. First off the smell, I just can't get past it. It reminds me of a menthol cigarette. It just smells sooo minty and lingers after washing. Some people may not mind the smell but if my shampoo is going to linger, I'd prefer it to smell like something other than strong mint and almost a tea tree smell. Second, when the conditioner sets for a couple minutes before rinsing out I've noticed that my back and neck where the product has been laying in my hair will get very cold and tingly. Almost like how when you have a breath mint you get the same effect in your mouth but it's on your body this time. This alone made me decide not to repurchase. I like my shower water very warm and I found myself constantly turning the heat up because while the conditioner set I would get extremely cold from the tingly feeling. It can be overwhelming sometimes and linger even after washing the area thoroughly and drying off. I would assume if this was a shampoo and conditioner without the minty smell that I was having an allergic reaction to it but since it has that smell I just really don't know if the tingle is intended or not. And lastly, I've noticed a lot of small breakage at the top of my hair by my scalp. I'm not prone to breakage that high and only notice it after a fresh bleach every once and a while although it is usually very rare for me. I should note that it has been 3 months since my last bleach since I am a low maintenance blonde and I was not using this product during my last bleach. I also take a lot measures to protect my hair that could be the cause of breakage that high. So at this point only thing I've changed is this shampoo and conditioner. I've decided not to finish the rest of the bottle due to concerns about further breakage. This is just my experience. Some people seem to love it but it's a no from me. I hope this helps some people on the fence after reading conflicting reviews. I've switched to Joyco kpac reconstructing shampoo that has also given me the same desirable results so far with a much better smell, no breakage, and most importantly no tingly feeling on by skin.Lexi

I saw the hair loss reviews but if the hair is coming out at the follicle then that is definitely health related not from a shampoo. Shampoo cannot cause hair loss unless maybe a severe reaction to the scalp and there's swelling and for whatever reason the follicle comes out with it but that is highly unlikely. But anyways back to my review lol this is the most hydrating gentle shampoo I've ever used it's perfect! It cleans my hair and makes my scalp feel so refreshed but my hair is detangled and moisturized! And the conditioner is so creamy and moisturizing! The scents for both are so relaxing to me and my hair and scalp are taken care of with this set of shampoo and conditioner. my hair is so soft, shiny and perfectly moisturized. Definitely for medium to thick hair types unless you have finer very porous hair then I think you'd like it. I had been using Head and Shoulders and other various dandruff shampoo brands for my dandruff for years and never really found anything that helped much. I tried scalp scrubs, masks, rinses, treatments, etc and tons of home remedies and never found anything very effective. Until I saw a dermatologist on TikTok mention that dandruff is actually caused by a FUNGUS on your scalp 🤢 So gross. Anyway, he suggested trying something with ketoconazole in it and I ran out to Target to try this right away and it was worth every penny of the $14.99 or whatever it was that I paid. 10/10 if you have dandruff problems, try this. I’ve struggled with dandruff for years and have tried EVERY product; Selsun Blue, T/Gel, head and shoulders, home remedies, you name it. Head and Shoulders was really the only thing I found that kept it somewhat at bay and I still only use the condition along with using Nizoral shampoo. I have very thick and curly hair so I don’t wash it often which is why none of the other products worked for me because they would make my hair way too greasy. I have been using Nizoral for about 3 months now and will never use anything else. After only about a week of using it I noticed a drastic change in my scalp, no flakes AT ALL!! I’m not being paid for this, nor did I receive free product to try, I’m simply sharing my review in hopes that it helps others who have struggled with dandruff like I have. This is going to sound very disgusting but at one point many years ago I had dandruff really really bad. At least I thought it was the address. I kept using every single day and your shampoo I could find and it did very little. My skin on my scalp would flake and almost healed to the point of being a lot like cradle cap that little babies have. I couldn’t understand why I had this horrible Dandruff and why nothing I would buy would do anything to help it. Finally I was able to see a dermatologist who gave me a prescription shampoo and told me I’d had sebbhoreic dermatitis. Once my prescription ran out I was not able to go back to my dermatologist and there was quite the wait so I decided to try some other shampoos after reading online. This was one that I had seen recommended by other people. Nizoral actually helped my condition and I was quite surprised that they didn’t need a prescription shampoo. I was able to try this product in exchange for review, which I was thrilled about as I have always wanted to try this particular Shea Moisture line. I have heavily highlighted and have attacked it quite regularly with hot tools. Add in pandemic self-done haircuts, my hair has been feeling rather dry and brittle. After two weeks of using this shampoo, twice a week, My hair feels moisturised but perhaps a little too much so. For my particular hair, I cannot use this is my go-to shampoo, but more as a twice a month or so treatment shampoo. The texture is not like any I have tried before, it is a semi-viscus liquid that pours out like a watery honey, not at all like a standard shampoo, so pay attention in the shower! The smell is a comforting warm vanilla. For my hair this product is a little too moisturising to use with every wash, but if you have coarser hair than mine, I definitely say give it a whirl. I will repeat purchase, as this shampoo does strengthen & restore my hair due effective natural components: Jamaican Black Castor oil, Fair Trade Shea Butter & Peppermint. It's sulfate-free, eligible for colored hair, by the way. The scent is really extremely pleasant like parfume for hair. My man loves the aroma & makes compliments. The only minus that I detected is that as It nourishes hair, my hair becomes one day ahead in comparison with other shampoos with cleaning leading role, not restoring. But I am completely OK with it, as benefits prevail. After use my hair has beautiful silky shine & it becomes healthier. It has helped me to resolve hair loss as well. I was able to try the Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo as a #freeproduct with #trywithtopbox & was pleasantly surprised. Keeping in mind this is a restorative shampoo it's very unconventional in the way it looks, smells & shampoos the hair. I was very skeptical but was used to it by the 2nd to 3rd time using it. It doesn't suds up/lather as much as a regular shampoo but it does if you really massage the hair well & give it a second shampoo. The color doesn't bother me as I said you get used to it. My hair didn't have the traditional "clean" feeling the first time I used it but there's a definite silkier almost more creamy feel to the hair after using it which is nice. This was a nice surprise! After using it for a few weeks now, I feel like again, I'm used to it & it leaves the hair clean & amazingly hydrated. Keep in mind this is all because this shampoo is sulfate-free (which is a good thing!). So give it a chance! You wouldn't necessarily use this if you have a ton of product in your hair you need to get off (lots of hairspray, gel etc,). This could be used for the second round of shampooing. So recommend to use this when you need some hydration & your hair is heat damaged. Also big plus it didn't burn my eyes which is my number one test with any shampoo especially when I saw the highlighted ingredients as peppermint & apple cider vinegar. I detest mint in general (esp in hair care) & have used products with lots of tea tree oil etc. & do not like it. So points for being subtle smelling & not harsh. Honestly didn't even notice. I've been using the WOW Skin Science Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo and Coconut Avocado Conditioner for the past 2 weeks and absolutely love them! I've used apple cider vinegar on my hair so I was intrigued when I saw this shampoo. This shampoo works gently to clear build-up and dandruff on the scalp and nourish hair. It works into a nice lather a little goes a long way. It's left my hair clean, shiny and soft. The WOW Coconut Oil Conditioner is ideal for dry or stressed hair. When I opened the conditioner I exclaimed "WOW this smells fantastic!" It makes me feel like I'm on an island sitting under a palm tree and relaxing. It smells that darn good! It's a very thick conditioner but rinses out easily. Between the two of them my frizz issue's aren't there so I'm a happy camper!Lisa J.

I used the WOW products hoping to improve my dandruff issues and detoxify my scalp. The ACV shampoo lathered well, washed out easily, and left a noticeable apple cider vinegar scent. It made my scalp oily and itchy after a day or two. My scalp is not usually oily. My scalp flaked more than usual. I was using it exclusively, but then I began alternating its use with my usual shampoo, which does not make my scalp oily, because I was concerned that the WOW products were too harsh. The conditioner is very thick. I use it on the ends of my hair, not on the scalp. It has a noticeable coconut scent. The labels state there are no sulfates, but the usual sodium lauroyl sulfate is replaced with Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate. I do not know if this is comparatively healthy. It has other chemicals, including sodium benzoate. I did not notice more shine to my hair. These WOW products may not be the best ones for me and my hair concerns. I have fine, thin, waist length hair that is naturally blonde starting to go grey, that is prone to split ends and I would describe as normal to oily. I don't wash it daily but every 2 to 3 days it's just too much work to do daily. I used the conditioner as directed and found that my hair combed out fairly easily even while still wet which was great as it tends to tangle quite badly when I don't use a good conditioner on it. My hair was soft and shiny and manageable. The container for this feels slightly greasy when I handle it during use even after rinsing them off. The conditioner bottle uses a pump as a dispenser which is great but I couldn't get the original one that came with the bottle to function. I replaced it with one I had but I noticed that the thick conditioner dries and forms a plug that takes several pumps to force out. Overall I would say this was a good product that worked as advertised and if someone was looking to try this I would recommend it, I'm not sure if it is the best choice for me given the frequency with which I wash my hair.MargarethaM

I received this as a #freeproduct through #trywithtopbox, but this review is 100% my honest opinion. I have fine 2A/2B hair that is coloured/bleached. I really struggle to find conditioning products that are repairing and hydrating for the colour, but not too heavy for my fine hair. Most conditioners really weigh my hair down and make it oily. I didn’t have that experience with the SM manuka honey and yogurt conditioner! First off – the scent is lightweight and really nice. It smells exactly like honey, but isn’t too sweet. The formula is hydrating but not heavy. It’s a thinner consistency than a lot of other repairing conditioners, which worked really well for me. I use one pump from the nape of my neck to my ends and let it sit for a few mins before washing out with cold(ish) water. I don’t believe that long term results can be identified without using the entire bottle, but I will say that my hair has been shinier, easier to detangle after washing, and less frizz since starting to use this product. The ends of my hair are usually the driest, and they seem to be less damaged and have less obvious split ends. I would absolutely continue to use this product, and will rebuy! The only thing I didn’t love is the packaging – the pump on my bottle didn’t really work, and had a hard time getting any amount of product out. I don’t know if it was just mt bottle or a design flaw, but I ended up switching the pump with another bottles I have with a thicker tube, and have not had any problems since.RoseyB37

I have had bleached hair for the last 15 years, and I can strongly say that out of all the salon recommended products I’ve used, these are by far the best and most effective. This is a really nice silky hydrating leave in conditioner. I like to use it after the shampoo and mask from the same line and I love how it makes my hair feel and look. I apply this from mid to ends and comb and style as usual. It leaves my hair soft and shiny without being too heavy. It has some of my favorite nourishing ingredients like argan oil and marula oil. Just like the shampoo, it has a slight lower PH which is what I look for in hair care products since they hydrate but are less damaging. It’s perfect for every day hydration and helps a lot with frizz control, especially on thick wavy hair like mine! I just love the moisture I get from the Drunk Elephant Silkamino Mega-Moisturizing Shampoo for my hair and my scalp loves it too! This really is a deeply moisturizing shampoo I truly feel my hair gets plenty of moisture and feels healthier with use, looks shinier, softer too, and even stronger. It does a great job too at deep cleansing away all my product buildup I have in my hair from all the hair products I use which is a plus, plus dirt, sweat, and oils too it cleanses away. What I like is that soothes my scalp too which is something I was looking for while also looking for something with all these other properties so this shampoo really does it all and my scalp does feel so much better and healthier too! This shampoo has a nice thick formula so all you need is a little to lather up so it’ll last you a long time and I only use a small amount on my past below my shoulders wavy bleached hair. I’ve also noticed my hair is more manageable with less frizz due to the great moisturizing effect and how it is free of all the bad ingredients I’m sure plays a role. Highly recommend!Vmuller2

I was really excited to receive this vox box from influenster for free to review as I’ve always wanted to try Pureology but was put off by the $91 price for the shampoo/conditioner combo. I have really thick, fine, mostly straight hair and usually wash my hair every 2nd or 3rd day, depending on if I got rained on/worked out/got sweaty etc. Any more often and my hair frizzes like crazy. Using that time table for washing and air drying 75% and then blow drying my hair is usually sleek and shiny and straight, even without using a flat iron. I had it trimmed about 3 weeks ago and had an olaplex treatment just to keep the hot weather/humidity frizz to a minimum, so my hair is very healthy, even though it runs on the dry side since it’s so thick. The first time I used this shampoo conditioner I noticed my hair seemed to hold onto water, I couldn’t get it as dry with my microfiber towel and it took twice as long to air dry to 75% than normal. Then, when using my blow dryer to finish off, it still took double the time and I felt like I just couldn’t get it 100% dry. Not only that, I had flyaways like crazy and my hair looked so dull, and I had a constant kink in the back. My usually smooth, thick ponytail was frizzy around my hairline and the tail itself looked stringy and separated and dry. I figured maybe it was a fluke- my hair getting used to new shampoo. Nope. I’ve used this shampoo and conditioner 5 times now over the course of 2 weeks and my hair looks just as horrible and takes longer to dry every single time. I couldn’t stomach the thought of using this shampoo again, so I gave it to my fiancé who loves pricy shampoo and he was happy with it. Hence 2 stars instead of 1. I will keep the conditioner for myself and use it once a week or so as a hair mask when I’m soaking in the tub, as I feel like it’s the shampoo, rather than the conditioner that is making my hair look so terrible. If I had paid $91 for this I would have been livid. I’m incredibly grateful to influenster for this box and giving me a chance to try this shampoo without having to purchase it myself. After using L'Oreal's Ever Pure for about 6 months, I bought sample size bottles of the Nanoworks Gold shampoo and conditioner to try first before making the investment in full-size bottles. I have fine textured, straight and on the thin side, naturally gray hair with dry ends that tends to be a bit frizzy and fly away right after I wash it. Oh, and my scalp is normal. I was concerned that this shampoo and conditioner would weigh my hair down too much, and make my scalp become too oily too soon after washing, but that didn't happen. Instead, it improved my dry ends and pretty much did away with the frizzies and fly aways. BUT it's very expensive so I decided to go back to using the less expensive Pureology Hydration Sheer that I used before trying the L'Oreal Ever Pure. What I plan to do is alternate the Nanoworks Gold and Hydration Sheer because I really like them both. I only wash my hair about 3 or 4 times a week and it definitely only takes a very small amount of the Nanoworks Gold to get a great lather which was something I had to get used to, so I didn't waste it. It also has a very delicate, not overpowering scent for those who care. Pureology is definitely a quality product and worth the extra money it you care about your hair, and I do.JJ in Indiana

This is expensive but it's also concentrated so you only need a small amount and it lasts a long time. 1st shampoo: clarifying..either PM or redken 2nd shampoo: nanoworks gold shampoo conditioner: nanoworks gold conditioner & I leave it in for 10-15min then rinse *clarify 1st to remove buildup *when you use the shampoo, apply a small amount in your hands, add a bit of water and emulsify it(aka rub your hands together until it's sudsy), then apply it to your scalp only and let it sit for 5 minutes to work properly *always shampoo twice. You don't need to use a clarifying shampoo every time you wash your hair but it should be used about once a week to get rid of buildup/products and helps the shampoo work effectively *the first shampoo won't get sudsy and foam up but the second shampoo will. This is normal. The first shampoo removed the dirt and oil the second shampoo is actually cleaning your scalp. *use a scalp massage brush when you shampoo to thoroughly clean your hair If you use all my tips then you'll love this product. I've used it for years and prefer it over the hydrate and strength lines. Also prefer this smell and it leaves my hair soft and hydrated. Nothing else compares and it's worth it to have beautiful healthy shiny hair. Now buy it.Beautyful1

I regularly use Pura D'Or ACV shampoo and conditioner. I love it. However since my hair is high-maintenance needing moisture I use a lot of conditioner. I decided to order just a bottle of conditioner alone. I tried a different type to see how alternating two different lines would benefit my hair. I know that some ingredients have different properties. The number one ingredient in the ACV conditioner is aloe vera. But the mix in this conditioner keeps my hair stronger and prevents split ends on the days when I just wet it. It effectively prevents my hair from getting thinner. My hair is shiny and there is less hair in my comb and brush.Sab

I was very happy to find this shampoo on Walmart.com. My first purchase of it was from Amazon and the shampoo was very thin and watery, I was not happy with the amount I would have to use to just get a lather. This new bottle from Walmart was so much better, the product was thicker and I'm not having to use as much to attain a good lather. I have been using for a couple of months and so far I have noticed that I am not having as much hair loss and I seem to have a lot of new growth. It leaves my hair feeling light and not weighed down as some shampoo do. Overall I am happy with the product, only complaint would be the smell but that is probably because of the tea tree oil, I hate that smell. I am in love with Pureology Smooth Perfection Shampoo! This is my first time trying Pureology and I had no idea what to expect. The first thing I noticed about the smooth perfection shampoo was the scent, I loved the hints of cocoa. Upon first application I decided to use a small amount and I am glad I did, a little bit goes a long way with this shampoo. I have really long hair and I only had to use a quarter size amount or less. I want to point out that I always have to use a handful of shampoo when I use my usual drugstore brand, so I was shocked by how little I had to use of the pureology. I massaged the shampoo in my hair for a good 1 to 2 minutes and then proceeded to wash it out. My hair felt so soft and clean without feeling stripped at all. I typically have a lot of fallout when I wash my hair, but noticed less strands of hair coming out while washing. I followed up by using the pureology smooth perfection conditioner. I also use a quarter size amount or less and it was more than enough. I focused this conditioner at the ends of my hair and put whatever was leftover on my roots. I let the conditioner sit for the recommend time of 1 to 2 minutes and then proceeded to wash it out. I felt like it took no time to wash all of the conditioner out. My hair was less tangled and overall felt so much healthier than what I am used to. I used the smoothing lotion on the ends of my hair, blow dried my hair and was so amazed by the end result. The end result after I blow dried and straightened my hair was incredible. My hair was less frizzy and more straight making it so easy to straighten. I would like to add that my hair is very wavy/curly and frizzy after washing. The price for the Pureology Smooth Perfection set is a bit expensive, but honestly it is worth every penny. I would definitely recommend this Pureology line of haircare products. Pureology Smooth Perfection is my new Holy Grail of haircare.amber.o

I got this product complimentary from Influenster and Pureology for my honest review. I really loved how this product worked for my hair. It left it so smooth and silky. It lathered really nicely and felt great when I washed it. It also rinsed out nice and easy and left my scalp feeling great. When I blew my hair dry it was like silk. Absolutely fabulous! Only negative, which I was REALLY surprised about, was the scent of this product. It was not pleasant at all to me and not something like I’ve ever smelled in a shampoo. I didn’t like it and for me that is important in a shampoo. I have other Pureology products and love their scents. it’s just this one that I couldn’t tolerate. Otherwise, I love how the product works, but due to the scent I would not buy this product. Sorry but it’s just my honest opinion. I only like haircare that has a nice pleasant smell and this one fell short in that area. It was almost like lightly nutty and musky and sour all mixed together. Hard to explain but it was not like typical haircare scents. For those that don’t care about how a shampoo smells, this would probably be good for you because it does work for smoothing and shine. I received this product from influencer pureology, but all opinions are completely my own. I have enjoyed using this shampoo. I find that the combination of the shampoo conditioner does help smooth my long hair and does really help smooth frizz. The shampoo cleanes hair great, good lather though it can make hair feel only slightly stripped. Conditioner is a nice one that helps smooth but doesn't overdo it and cause hair to feel heavy. Both help cleanse and Condition my hair without feeling too dry or too weighed down. The heat protectant from this line is nice and I feel it helps smooth hair and help make it somewhat softer. It doesn't help much with tangles though. Overall a good smoothing system that helps with frizz. I would recommend anyone trying it out.shona.d

I like this masque, the ingredients are great and it is super thick and detangling but the packaging isn't the best for how thick it is. The smell is pretty strong and floral and it lasts until you wash it again so if you don't like floral smells or strong smells I would skip this. The health of my hair has definitely improved. I have fine but color treated (blonde) dry hair that is fine but I have a lot of hair. The summer thrashed my hair so bad and I could barely brush it dry or comb it out when wet . This mask reversed all of that in 1 use. It's an instant fix type mask. It is too thick to be bottled, it should be a in a jar or tub, so when it gets low, I may remove the top. Very high quality. I've been using this for about a week now and not every day. I am noticing a difference. I can't stop touching my hair because I'm not used to having soft hair. My hair is coarse, curly, color treated, dry. I put this product on wet hair, along with some other products, and it feels incredible. I did an experiment and took out this product, using the other same products, and my hair was feeling coarse and dry on the ends. My hair feels like it can actually blow in the wind and stay soft. When I first used this shampoo I hated how it felt. I thought it made my hair feel limp, almost sticky, and a bit greasy. I decided to keep using it since it didn't irritate my skin (I'm very sensitive and shampoos can cause eczema flares for me) and after 2 weeks of daily use I've noticed an incredible change in the feeling and appearance of my hair. Gone is the weird sticky feeling and now my hair is soft, shiny, bouncy, and healthy. My ends feel hydrated and so soft. I've even noticed less hairfall in the shower and in my brush as well. My scalp — normally irritated and itchy — feels normal and healthy. I think this shampoo is so gentle that if you were using something laden with silicones before it doesn't get the buildup off. I recommend using a clarifying shampoo and then integrating these products into your routine. I use this with the Formula 133 conditioner sold by Kiehl's. Highly recommend them both!Danielle

I am always amazed at the range of Kiehl's products – from daily skin care, to treatments, rich body care, family toiletry products, and hair care as well. I've been a fan of Kiehl's skincare for some time, but had never tried any of the haircare until I was given the Amino Acid Shampoo and Conditioner. This shampoo contains amino acid and coconut oil to clean the hair gently, as well as wheat proteins and wheat starch which are claimed to add body. It is described as suitable for all hair types and as a mild shampoo, gentle enough to use every day. It is free of silicone and parabens I am instantly attracted to anything coconut, it reminds me of the beach and summertime. So I would probably still like this product even if it didn't live up to it's claims! Fortunately, I am happy to report that it does. My hair, which is straight, quite fine but abundant, and coloured, felt soft and silky afterwards, and still had it's usual body. There was no issue at all with it feeling "weighed down" or limp – and I do know what that feels like, whenever I have my hair coloured. I have fairly dry, coloured hair with a slightly oily scalp, but both scalp and ends felt perfectly clean after using Amino Acid. It might be counter-intuitive to think of coconut oil with an oily scalp, but in this case it works.\n\nThe lather – I have to say it doesn't lather quite as well as my usual shampoo but, with an oily scalp, I naturally double shampoo. The first shampoo to remove any excess oil, the second to really clean the hair. On the second shampoo, with Amino Acid the lather is rich and creamy, exactly as I want, but also easy to rinse out. The coconut scent afterwards is wonderful, it lingers but is not overpowering. There is nothing better than having been at the beach, hot and sticky, and then washing all of that away with a coconut-scented product. It reminds me of those times.\n\nThe packaging is fairly plain, on the face of it – just a plastic bottle, but what I really like about Kiehl's packaging is the trademark cursive writing, and the fact that all the ingredients and directions are right there conveniently on the bottle,not on a leaflet, so you can read them clearly.\n\nThe price is the only drawback – it is very high for a product that will be used as often as a shampoo. So I would recommend that people use it as I do – as an extra summer shampoo for those times when you have been in the pool every day and need to step up the shampooing. \n\nAnne F.

I waited awhile to do this review, I wanted to see how my hair responded to using Kiehl's Since 1851 Amino Acid Shampoo and Conditioner. I have been using it for 5 months now and I am impressed. I have always been "cheap" when it has come to shampoo and conditioner, but I was having a lot of issues with my hair. My volume was flat, my natural waves always seemed limp, and the worst part was that every time I brushed or washed my hair I was pulling out clumps. I switched to Kiehl's and it is like night and day. My natural waves are back, my hair is growing back in areas where my hair was thinning, my hair isn't falling out by the bunches anymore and my hair is soft and has volume again. I also noticed that I have less issues with my hair feeling and looking greasy and I didn't even realize that was an issue prior to the switch. After years of bleaching my hair and not many shampoos working to get it healthy again I finally looked at hair burst after hearing so many good things and can say I wasn’t disappointed! The smell is so lovely and the amount you get in the bottle is really good as it’s quite thick so tend not to use as much in one go. Managed to use the little travel sized bottles over a few washes! I was skeptical to using this brand at first as I wasn’t sure if it was a marketing strategy. But god am I so glad I am! I was using olaplex (which we know is expensive!!) and this makes my hair softer and shiner than olaplex. Now that is saying something! I have beautiful blonde hair and am trying to get it to the length it once was, hence the 4 stars instead of 5! Time will tell but I am so impressed. The taste/smell is gorgeous, not too potent and the website is so easy to use too. My confidence is better than when I was using olaplex. My hair is thin and falling out due to new baby. This has definitely saved and thickened my hair. My hair had been thinning for some time and, after my first use of this product along with the same brand/line’s conditioner I saw a noticeable difference in how thick my hair looked. Unfortunately I did not take any photos of my hair at the start of product use — I wish I had! — and so I can’t speak to whether my hair looks thicker because hair grew or because this product just makes hair appear so. In any case, my hair looks and feels great since using this product line (almost a month, now): thicker, definitely softer, less frizz, and it smells amazingly. This was such a fun campaign to be in! There were FOUR full sized products that I got to try. I definitely felt I got a good sense of each product before writing my review. With that being said though, I honestly was not a fan of the shampoo. It’s not necessarily the product’s fault though because unless it was formulated for a dry scalp, there was no way I was going to be able use this long term. My hair didn’t feel drier the few of times I used this, but it also didn’t feel more moisturized either. It did look like it had a tad more volume, but that was probably in combination with the other products. It did smell really good (reminded me of a Bath and Body Works lotion. Couldn’t pinpoint which one) and the scent lasted for a couple days actually, but unless you have a normal scalp with hair that doesn’t require too much hydration, I would recommend sticking to your regular shampoo.christina.l

I’m super bummed about this shampoo. I read so many great reviews, and I found it at Walmart for a great price. So here we go — pros: it smells ANAZING. Like, super good. It kinda reminds me of Bath and Body Works sweet pea scent. And it’s sulfate free! Cons: It made my hair feel INCREDIBLY dry on the ends. Bad. And that was after the conditioner (plus rinsing with cold water). It also left a weird crunchy residue feeling on the top part of my hair, too. I made sure to rinse it all off as well, but it felt super weird on top when it started to dry. I’ll maybe use it one or two more times and then throw out the bottle. This product could work for you, though. I’ve read more good reviews than bad. I just personally haven’t had a good experience with it. Like, my hair was practically SCREAMING for hydration after using this product. I have very fine hair but a lot of it, and I’m just saying — my hair felt healthier after bleaching it awhile back than it did after using this shampoo + conditioner. This made my hair feel like straw at the bottom and just weird and gross at the top.shiloh.p

I've only used this shampoo a few times, but I already will continue to purchase it. It leaves my hair very clean, soft and manageable. I only gave it 4 stars due to not seeing results yet, but even if I never do, I know it is good for my hair. I will suggest buying the conditioner for it, since it leaves my hair so clean, it is difficult to comb out, and I am trying to grow my hair, not rip it out 🙂 I also have to add that I have soft water where I live, so using conditioners of other kind weigh my hair down which is why I did not purchase the conditioner.
