I had a sample of this shampoo, then bought the full size and now that I've used it up, I'm missing it! Other shampoos that I've used including shea moisture, taliah waajid and the mane choice just don't compare to this. This shampoo checks all the boxes, except being black-owned. I can detangle, it's moisturizing, it smells good, it has GREAT ingredients and it gets my scalp SO clean! When I use other shampoos, I still have a little bit of itching after and my scalp really starts itching mid-week. With this shampoo, even when I work out almost everyday, I don't get the incessant itch until almost the end of the week. The itching is so much less than anything else I've used. Hopefully it's made by black people so I can support black professionals that way. I'll definitely repurchase!

SO GLAD i did!! seriously like liquid gold in a bottle, it smells lovely makes my hair feels silky and moisturized! i look forward to washing my hair now, literally count the days down. i also use this lines detangling spray which i technically dont need bc of how amazingly soft the shampoo and conditioner make my hair but i feel that it definitley helps! i have type 3 curly hair. If your hair or beard is long you will not be able to run your fingers through your hair as you're working it in and washing it out. What can I say aside from this stuff being absolutely incredible. It has a dry finish, but within hours your hair feels softer and smells amazing with this lemon scent that lathers well and is perfect for men who want more volume or have thinning hair. I luckily still have a full head of hair, but it’s quite fine in texture, and this stuff truly does make it feel more thick from the Coconut Oil and Kelp Extract that they infuse. Even my girlfriend loves using this stuff and she is extremely picky when it comes to shampoo or conditioner. I dyed my hair green and right after I started using this product. The color was bright after the first wash, and with the second time a little faded away, but that was expected, since it was newly dyed. The color is still great, so it exceeded my expectations, considering my experience with a lot of products for colored hair. I am curious to see how long the color lasts, but I have high hopes due to the antioxidants. You don't need to use a lot of shampoo when showering, it bubbles nicely and the scent is very pleasant. I am happy with the product, the quality is good, and I will keep on using the product for my hair. Easy to open bottle, and may both be placed upwards or downwards – no hassle! My hair looks much better with this shampoo, it also feels soft to the touch, days after I washed it. All in all, I enjoy this product 🙂Maffi23
I use this product along with the shampoo of the same brand. I dyed my hair prior to testing these products and so far they work well together! For the conditioner, you need to use a larger amount on product per wash than the shampoo, so you will have to buy each when they finish. The shampoo is more fragnant, however after the shower, the smell does not last. The conditioner is what makes the hair silky, I wouldn't recommend the shampoo separately unless if being used with another conditioner for colored hair. I was an early grayer (mid to late 20s) and started going to Aveda salons in 2012. My Master level stylist suggested this product to me and the perfect analogy – if you're going to buy a Ferrari (expensive partial and full due to hair length), why would you put cheap fuel (cheap $1 products) in it. Began using this after Aveda discontinued the Clove shampoo which I had used for decades alongside occasional use of other Aveda shampoos. I'd even used this before without problems but it seems they've changed the formula, or maybe when I was using it regularly it became worse but my head became very, very itchy and sore and my eyes began to swell up so it seems I'm allergic to the ingredients, something I never thought I'd say about an Aveda shampoo. I see it has tocepherol in it, which I hadn't expected or checked for as lots of people are allergic to this and Aveda are known for being not allergenic. I was able to try this product in exchange for review, which I was thrilled about as I have always wanted to try this particular Shea Moisture line. I have heavily highlighted and have attacked it quite regularly with hot tools. Add in pandemic self-done haircuts, my hair has been feeling rather dry and brittle. After two weeks of using this shampoo, twice a week, My hair feels moisturised but perhaps a little too much so. For my particular hair, I cannot use this is my go-to shampoo, but more as a twice a month or so treatment shampoo. The texture is not like any I have tried before, it is a semi-viscus liquid that pours out like a watery honey, not at all like a standard shampoo, so pay attention in the shower! The smell is a comforting warm vanilla. For my hair this product is a little too moisturising to use with every wash, but if you have coarser hair than mine, I definitely say give it a whirl. I was able to try the Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo as a #freeproduct with #trywithtopbox & was pleasantly surprised. Keeping in mind this is a restorative shampoo it's very unconventional in the way it looks, smells & shampoos the hair. I was very skeptical but was used to it by the 2nd to 3rd time using it. It doesn't suds up/lather as much as a regular shampoo but it does if you really massage the hair well & give it a second shampoo. The color doesn't bother me as I said you get used to it. My hair didn't have the traditional "clean" feeling the first time I used it but there's a definite silkier almost more creamy feel to the hair after using it which is nice. This was a nice surprise! After using it for a few weeks now, I feel like again, I'm used to it & it leaves the hair clean & amazingly hydrated. Keep in mind this is all because this shampoo is sulfate-free (which is a good thing!). So give it a chance! You wouldn't necessarily use this if you have a ton of product in your hair you need to get off (lots of hairspray, gel etc,). This could be used for the second round of shampooing. So recommend to use this when you need some hydration & your hair is heat damaged. Also big plus it didn't burn my eyes which is my number one test with any shampoo especially when I saw the highlighted ingredients as peppermint & apple cider vinegar. I detest mint in general (esp in hair care) & have used products with lots of tea tree oil etc. & do not like it. So points for being subtle smelling & not harsh. Honestly didn't even notice. For reference I have low porosity thin coarse curly hair. I had really high hopes for this product. After a few uses I realized that this product lead to extreme hair loss for me and product buildup. I ordered this product looking for something to keep my magenta hair fresh and vibrant. I had previously been using Nexxus and it was working OK but I had heard good things about the Paul Mitchell brand. I used this product one time and more pink washed out of my hair in one wash than in five washes with my other shampoo. I looked on the bottle only to discover this shampoo is not sulfate free. How can a shampoo claim to be "color protect" and yet contain sulfates? A low-quality product, that's how. Really used to be a Paul Mitchell girl, I haven't used their products in 5ever but I was looking for a more high end shampoo/conditioner because I'm having trouble finding nice products that are giving me a good end result. Like the product. Went to buy it based on a 30% off on one item coupon. The item was $33, so with the discount, slightly under $25. Can purchase 2 of them for $25 on Amazon. Having coloured my hair for many years I am very conscious of the need to try and keep it in good condition and avoid colour fading so was very eager to try Nexxus Color Assure Shampoo. Nexxus is not a brand I am familiar with so was keen to see the results. As soon as I poured the shampoo into my hand I could feel the quality of this beautifully rich shampoo and the smell was absolutely divine. The shampoo lathered up easily into my hair with just a small amount of the product. It was easy to rinse out and my hair felt thick and full once it had been washed. Once my hair had been dried I could instantly see how shiny and well nourished my hair looked and felt and the colour of my hair has stayed more vibrant without any fading over the past couple of weeks. I wash my hair every day and this shampoo has kept it in perfect condition. I regularly smelt the shampoo during the day which was lovely and I have had several people complimenting me on how shiny and healthy my hair looks. I've used this product for years, but they seem to have changed the formulation. I purchased two 1L bottles sometime ago. I just ran out of the old formula and opened the new bottle, and (as many have said) it does not clean. Rinsing my hair isn't tangled, it is smooth, and it's even better when it dries. I like to let my hair air dry but usually it frizzes out, since using this conditioner I don't have to worry about my hair being all frizzy. My hair is so much more softer and silkier. It smooths my hair out very nicely, so I don't have to spend a bunch of time straightening it to get rid of the frizz. It's soft on my colored hair and doesn't strip my hair of my color, which is a huge plus. Highly recommend this conditioner if you have color treated thick hair like mine. The Colour Wow Colour Security Conditioner is a lightweight conditioner that really helps prevent colour from fading. This is a lot more hydrating than the matching shampoo in the range and should be ok for all hair types except very dry or damaged. It does not weigh hair down, leaves it feeling soft and with a little volume. I have very dry hair so overall I need a more hydrating conditioner I have to use a leave in conditioner after using this. If you are looking for a range for coloured hair and your hair is not very dry I would recommend this range as they stopped my colour looking dull and prevented my highlights from fading.emk

I like this leave in conditioner it has a water like consistency. It has almost a fruity pineapple scent. It doesnt moisturize my hair but It is also an additional heat protection so it makes my life easier to not constantly try to buy a seperate heat protectant for styling. It doesnt do much hydration at all but it does the job for a tiny extra bit of moisture. If youre someone that has low perosity hair i don’t recommend as it doesnt have much hydration properties at all but maybe for someone who has an oily scalp and want a more lightweight product this may be the one for you. I prefer hair products that have a fresh, natural, and pleasant scent while I am in the shower and fade away to the background after I shower so they don't conflict with other products. This is not what ABC's products are aimed towards. All of the products have a very strong flowery perfume. It's almost unpleasant in the shower, it's so concentrated, and it really lingers after you shower. I am giving this away because I cannot stand the smell. The company describes it as "date and cinnamon" which sounds lovely, but I think it smells like old lady rose perfume. It is definitely floral but not in a good way. I have never gotten rid of a product because of the smell before – even the ones that I didn't love the smell of. It is soooo fragrant – not subtle at all. So you if you can take a whiff of this in the store, I would recommend it before buying it. Product was OK on my hair. I have fine, thin, color-treated hair. The first time I used it it was very heavy but I probably used too much. The second time I used less and it was better but it wasn't anything to write home about. I love this shampoo. I have really fine, straight hair and it tends to get oily quickly. I've been using the shampoo for a few weeks and this is the cleanest my hair has felt in ages. There is no build up or residue left over, my hair is shiny and has a little bit of volume (as much as it is capable of), and it does not clog follicles or mess with my scalp, nor does it leave my hair feeling dry. I have been using cruelty free products for decades and it is really hard to find a shampoo that doesn't weigh my hair down. I just love this one. It is a thinner formula but lathers nicely. So my sister purchased this for me oh say a decade ago and I loved it!!! Not easy to find it locally and just got around to purchasing it online… however it’s just ok and not at call what I remember. So for me disappointing… I feel like I need more than other brands to shampoo. Don’t get great results and I don’t like the feeling if I try and just shampoo, no conditioner. The conditioner does great, and I use it every time. And I accidentally order two of the large bottles.. I didn’t want to pay to ship it back for a result. This shampoo and conditioner combo changed my life. I have extremely curly hair that I color (a deep purple color) regularly and wash once a week. I wish they had this brand in NYC!! My sister introduced me to these products. I used these products for the first time this summer in the Dominican Republic. The shampoo has a strong smell of mint but it is great because it literally gets rid of all the build-up on my scalp. It is a bit drying but the conditioner adds moisture back on your hair. The conditioner has a thick consistency so a little bit goes a long way. Same as the curling puree. I used to use Rene Furterer quite some time ago. I thought I would like to try this again because I use to like it very much. I bought the Triphasic strengthening shampoo and the Okara conditioner for color treated hair. You only need about the size of a quarter. They are wonderful, makes hair unbelievably manageable, shiny, soft and so different from other shampoos and conditioners. Does not leave hair weighted down, great for all hair especially fine textured and thinning hair. I have used them twice and saw almost no hair in the drain or on my brush. Amazing!! I highly recommend both products. (Follow directions on both)

I purchased this product a little over a month ago. I enjoyed it initially, until I didn't! Love the scent.. however, I began to notice tons of dryness and shedding. My hair has been SUPER THICK, since I was a very young child. It's now SUPER THIN, with noticeable hair loss; just within only a few weeks time. I'm truly saddened by the outcome of using a shampoo that's supposedly geared towards people of color. Now, I have to nurse my hair back to life and pray for the best. First let me start off by saying I had no idea Melanin was in Sephora now. This is AMAZINGGGG! I’m so happy for her. Okay so since this is a black soap shampoo, expect it to be clarifying. The way I like to use it is to dilute it in an applicator bottle. I add 1oz of this shampoo and 3-4oz of water (and yes I also add a few drops of oil). I’ve been diluting my shampoos for YEARSSSS! My hair is left so so soooo soft yet clean after using it this way. (Sometimes if my hair is too dirty if I’ve gone too long before washing my hair, I won’t add any oil but I will only use 0.5oz of shampoo and dilute it for the first wash and on the second wash I’ll add oil to the née batch if that makes any sense). This shampoo is a NO for me. After 2 washes, I have residue buildup on my hair that has not washed out. The first time I used this shampoo, I clarified my hair and scalp with a baking soda/water mixture so my scalp and hair were free of residue before using this shampoo. When I washed my hair, it felt like there was a film on my hair after the first wash. I used the complete Melanin hair care line along with this. I washed my hair a second time (the next week), and my hair feels like it has a film on it (after 2 washes and multiple plain water rinses). My hair looks dull, feels very heavy, and my curls are limp. I am going to have to clarify my hair and go back to my other holy grail shampoos. I had high hopes for this shampoo because I have been following Naptural85 for years on YouTube and social media and love her hair tips. I have used this a few times when my split ends are cracking and I find myself picking them. After I use this my split ends are 90% gone and it feels so soft and nice! I can't stop running my hands through my hair. Best stuff I've used. I love this hair mask! I tried going to a new hairstylist who destroyed my hair. She burned 6 inches off and my ends continued to break and fall off with the slightest touch. So I went back to my old stylist who recommended I use this. She told me to use it for 8 hours since my hair was so damaged. I used it twice in one week and my hair finally stopped breaking. This stuff saved my hair and it finally grew back thanks to this mask. It says to use 5 mins or 30 for extremely damaged hair twice a week or as needed but I still use it for hours. I either sleep with it on or just hang around the house with it wrapped in a towel. (Once a week because I only wash once or twice a week), My hair is naturally dark brown but I regularly bleach it platinum blonde and use heat often. This is what manages to keep my hair healthy through all of that. If you just need a little moisture you can do the shorter time but if you abuse your hair like me the extra hours are worth it! It washes right out and doesn’t leave my hair greasy. Smells great and it’s affordable. Not sure where everyone else that says it’s expensive is buying it but I’ve always paid about $15. I pick it up from Jcp salons or order it online from Jcp. Now I actually pay around $6 from a beauty store for cosmetologists. So that’s around what your salon is paying for it. Any salon should carry this in store and online and it shouldn’t be over $20. I love trying new masks but this one will always be a go to staple for me! Been using it for 8 years now.cassidy.h

I have fine but color treated (blonde) dry hair that is fine but I have a lot of hair. The summer thrashed my hair so bad and I could barely brush it dry or comb it out when wet . This mask reversed all of that in 1 use. It's an instant fix type mask. It is too thick to be bottled, it should be a in a jar or tub, so when it gets low, I may remove the top. Very high quality. I've been using this for about a week now and not every day. I am noticing a difference. I can't stop touching my hair because I'm not used to having soft hair. My hair is coarse, curly, color treated, dry. I put this product on wet hair, along with some other products, and it feels incredible. I am nearly at the bottom of the bottle, so I am ready to comment. This one is not working for me. It is probably due to the texture of my hair – it is a bit past shoulder length, fine/medium hair. Not super fine, but I think you might get the idea. After I apply soap, and gently wash hair, and rinse out – my hair is a matted mess while in the shower. I have to add conditioner, just to be able to rinse the soap out of my hair properly. The two conditioners that I used, that saved me – are both offered by Vitacost: Andalou Naturals Detangling spray and 2Chic Ultra Sleek Conditioner by Giovanni. I love the Andalou spray, so I will try their shampoo. Giving this 2 stars, as this Shikai shampoo, may be ok for super short hair, or hair needing a 'clarifying' shampoo, to remove heavy sports sweat/dirt, gels & other hair products. When I purchased Shikai Shampoo I had hair that was colored. That was about a year and a half ago. Now it's my natural color but this shampoo is still doing a good cleansing job and leaves my hair manageable. This used to be my favorite conditioner WHEN IT HAD AMLA, for fine wavy hair and a difficult scalp and as a reward for my loyalty and others' they changed the AMLA to borage without announcement. I didn't figure it out by label reading, but by the CHANGE IN WHAT IT DID TO MY HAIR – from lovely, fuss-free hair and calm scalp to cruddy scalp like all the others and nothing but bad hair days.
