I bought the travel size of this shampoo to test out how it would do on my hair before I splurged on the big bottle. I was also a bit wary of the reviews that claimed it caused hair loss. I have wavy and thick hair with low porosity. I have a very dry, itchy, flakey scalp as well. I read that tea tree oil could help soothe your scalp, so I thought I would try it. I washed my hair as directed. Used about 3 dime sizes for my whole head and massaged it into my scalp. It lathers alright. Not much suds. That made me think that it wasn't cleaning my hair enough so I was tempted to put more shampoo on my head but I did not. The smell is very strong, but it does not linger in your hair post-wash. Usually, my head begins to itch after I wash my hair, but with this shampoo, there was no itch! So I was pleasantly surprised by that. I finished off my hair with the tea tree special conditioner. After I finished showering and dried my hair with a microfiber towel, I noticed no residue on my hair and it felt very clean! I couldn't see any flakes and my scalp wasn't itchy! Just from this, I am very impressed with this shampoo. To address the hair loss comments, I did not notice any significant hair loss when I used the shampoo. I am the type to shed a lot of hair as it is since I have thick hair. I also wash my hair about once a week, so I tend to lose a bit of hair because of that because stray hairs build up over that time. So this might not be good for someone who has thin hair or shampoos frequently. But for me, it works great. Hair loss was about the same or slightly less than usual. I washed my hair about 5 days ago and my hair is a lot less flakey and itchy. It still feels relatively clean with some oil started to build up on my hair. Best shampoo out there for oily dandruff ! Used a $400 prescription shampoo for 15 years and of course it worked, however one just can't Afford to keep using a $400 shampoo every day at a 30 day prescription. I'm a licensed stylist and always heard and was taught that Tea Tree has healing ingredients that Actually work . Never had the chance to use it. I got the shampoo and conditioner combo and used it for the first time today. Here are my thoughts: The "tingly" feeling is real. At first I thought it was burning my scalp but it's not. I have extreme dandruff and have tried RX shampoos to help that never worked. My scalp at least "feels" clean. I've seen a lot of reviews about hair falling out and mine did not at all. I have hashimotos disease which causes hair loss to an extreme so I expected clumps again. NOPE. Make sure to brush through your hair before you wash it! This prevents any extra breakage. The small is very strong. I love essential oils for their healing properties but the smells are awful. No exception here! Any tee tree product will smell like this BTW. DISCLAIMER: tee tree can be poisonous in raw form. If you have allergies, do not use this. For people with psoriasis this will not be for you. Keep out of reach from pets as it is poisonous to cats and dogs even as a topical product. Anything with essential oil products can be potentially dangerous and I urge you to research before you buy! To preface. I'm a 25 female. Natural light brown hair, bleached low maintenance blonde. Thick wavy frizzy hair that reaches the lower bottom of my back. Prone to split ends and breakage at the bottom of my hair. No extensions. I wanted to add this so people with similar hair types can relate. So to start, I'm so torn on this shampoo… I tried it for 3 weeks and I do like that this shampoo and conditioner cuts down on my overall frizz and made my hair so much smoother and less likely to tangle which is exactly what I was looking for. BUT there is some things about this shampoo I just can't ignore. First off the smell, I just can't get past it. It reminds me of a menthol cigarette. It just smells sooo minty and lingers after washing. Some people may not mind the smell but if my shampoo is going to linger, I'd prefer it to smell like something other than strong mint and almost a tea tree smell. Second, when the conditioner sets for a couple minutes before rinsing out I've noticed that my back and neck where the product has been laying in my hair will get very cold and tingly. Almost like how when you have a breath mint you get the same effect in your mouth but it's on your body this time. This alone made me decide not to repurchase. I like my shower water very warm and I found myself constantly turning the heat up because while the conditioner set I would get extremely cold from the tingly feeling. It can be overwhelming sometimes and linger even after washing the area thoroughly and drying off. I would assume if this was a shampoo and conditioner without the minty smell that I was having an allergic reaction to it but since it has that smell I just really don't know if the tingle is intended or not. And lastly, I've noticed a lot of small breakage at the top of my hair by my scalp. I'm not prone to breakage that high and only notice it after a fresh bleach every once and a while although it is usually very rare for me. I should note that it has been 3 months since my last bleach since I am a low maintenance blonde and I was not using this product during my last bleach. I also take a lot measures to protect my hair that could be the cause of breakage that high. So at this point only thing I've changed is this shampoo and conditioner. I've decided not to finish the rest of the bottle due to concerns about further breakage. This is just my experience. Some people seem to love it but it's a no from me. I hope this helps some people on the fence after reading conflicting reviews. I've switched to Joyco kpac reconstructing shampoo that has also given me the same desirable results so far with a much better smell, no breakage, and most importantly no tingly feeling on by skin.Lexi
I saw the hair loss reviews but if the hair is coming out at the follicle then that is definitely health related not from a shampoo. Shampoo cannot cause hair loss unless maybe a severe reaction to the scalp and there's swelling and for whatever reason the follicle comes out with it but that is highly unlikely. But anyways back to my review lol this is the most hydrating gentle shampoo I've ever used it's perfect! It cleans my hair and makes my scalp feel so refreshed but my hair is detangled and moisturized! And the conditioner is so creamy and moisturizing! The scents for both are so relaxing to me and my hair and scalp are taken care of with this set of shampoo and conditioner. my hair is so soft, shiny and perfectly moisturized. Definitely for medium to thick hair types unless you have finer very porous hair then I think you'd like it. I used the Hydrate shampoo, conditioner, and Color-Fanatic Leave-In spray all together, so my options are based on how these products performed with each other. Hydrate Shampoo: the first thing that I noticed about this shampoo is the smell of it. I personally think it smells slightly like Lavender, but i could be wrong about that. Overall the shampoo lathered well and i can honestly say that my hair felt clean after using it. Hydrate Conditioner: like the shampoo, the first thing i noticed about the conditioner was how it smelled, except the conditioner smelled very minty (which i am not at all complaining about). Since it was minty, it did have a tingly feeling on my scalp that i found to be nice. I left the conditioner on for about 10 minutes instead of 1-2 minutes, but i found that my hair did feel very soft afterwards. After washing my hair I followed up with the leave-in spray, but my boyfriend also tried the shampoo and conditioner and the smell from the conditioner actually stayed in his hair for a few days. Color-Fanatic Leave-In Spray: i used this spray before blow drying my hair. I found that the mist of the spray was actually perfect. I know that isn’t explaining much, but i found it to not be too think and chunky or too thin. I like all the benefits listed on the bottle even though I haven’t fully noticed all of them yet. Overall i can say I really enjoy using these three products together. My hair isn’t normally dry, but I did notice my hair feeling more hydrated and softer after these products. My hair even looked shiny, but not an oily kind of shiny, a shine that made my hair actually look healthy, which I didn’t think was even possible. I totally recommend these products if you’ve been interested in them. The price may be a little high but i found the results to be worth the price.

I have an oily scalp with wavy waist length thick hair (many thin/low porosity strands). Color treated blonde. Problems: fluffy/poofy hair, greasy roots, dry ends, seborrheic dermatitis (on back of scalp) 1. Product longevity: I only used the allotted card sample packet of 10 mL shampoo & 10 mL conditioner, which I was prepared to not be enough for my long hair. It was perfect! It went a long way, which was a pleasant surprise right off the bat. 2. Scent: the fragrance is pleasant, light but it hangs in there, even into the next day. The scent is unisex. It just smells very *clean,* like a fresh aquatic citrus. Although it’s subtle, it is noticeable enough to get a “ooh your hair smells good” when someone goes in for the hug. 3. Effectiveness: this cleaned my hair so well, without making it feel overly dried or stripped. I have a hard time getting a good product that works with my dermatitis, and actually calmed the flare up I was having. Day 2 after wash, my head was so much less itchy than it was all week. My hair stayed clean and free of grease throughout all of day 1 and 2. Paired with the conditioner, my hair was smooth, shiny, soft (but not overly fluffy/full of poofy flyaways). It felt hydrated and my ends looked good. I’ve been faithful to olaplex for the past 2 years, but think I may have a new fave. I noticed that with olaplex, my hair began getting greasy SO quickly. I was getting greasy same day as wash. I still love it (that LATHER and scent tho!), but I think it’s too rich and moisture-focused for regular use given my oily scalp. My seborrheic dermatitis was getting worse and having intense flare ups. Anyway, everyone’s hair is different, and can change in different seasons, so I really don’t think there’s a “one size fits all” hair product that will be best for everyone at all times. That being said, transitioning into warmer, humid spring/summer weather, I’m really pleased to have found this product. It’ll be great for clean summer hair.jessicaeve1023
For reference: I have LONG hair with a naturally wavy/curly texture, and with that comes frizz. A lot of it – even though I'm very aware of how to tame it (naturally kept or with a blow-out). My hair behaves weirdly, i'll just put it that way – it's difficult to achieve perfectly smooth styles. HOWEVER… I've been using OUAI products (I started with the THICK SHAMP+THICK COND.) for a little bit over a year now & all I can say is…I will NEVER go back to anything else, ever, unless I find something AS extraordinary as this brand. It's like magic in a bottle, to me at least. I have never experienced better hair (at home, done by me) in my entire life. It's insanely smooth & silky. I have such minimal frizz now. I normally need to blow dry AND straighten my hair, but I am beyond satisfied with just the blow-dried results. The only cons, I would say, is that because there's such rich and moisturizing ingredients (love to see it!) your hair can become a tad oily after the third day, even second sometimes. You just need to figure out what the right amount of product is for you so that you don't over do it. The second con, though it's nothing too crazy, would be that sometimes I end up needing more product in the shower, as it doesn't lather suuuuper well – but again, this depends on hair length and the amount that you know you need. I guess I just wish it foamed a bit more, is all. BUT these are such small things that can be resolved & aren't much of a big deal. For the oily con as mentioned above, this is why I switched to the MEDIUM line & I feel like it has helped. The THICK line may have heavier ingredients. I have tried SO many different shampoos and conditioners. A lot from drugstore and high end. And lately I've noticed I've been shedding more than usual. I have been using pureology a lot. I've used strength cure, hydrate and the nano works good line. But for some reason the pureology strength cure especially really irritated my scalp and makes me lose soooo much hair. So I got the ouai thick hair shampoo and conditioner and the first time I used it my shedding was only like 10 hair strands! I've washed my hair 4 times with it now and my hair scalp feels so clean but the shampoo makes washing my hair so easy and doesn't tangle my hair. And the conditioner is chefs kiss. I barely have to use any and my hair is so conditioned after the shampoo/conditioner. My hair is so soft, shiny, clean and my natural waves/curls look really pronounced since using the set. Also they smell AMAZING I want a perfume in the shampoo scent! I got the leave in, oil, and curl cream and they all work together beautifully and don't make my hair feel producty which I like because pureolgy always leaves my hair feeling kinda gross when I use their leave ins. Anyway I totally recommend this set and if you're getting greasy hair from this set try the medium or fine hair set. This just probably isn't for your hair type. Stop looking! I have never written a review before but this shampoo is amazing! I have dead and dry hair from bleach! My hair used to be so healthy before I lightened it! Then I went back to dark hair and it deposited a little too dark for me so I wanted to use a clarifying shampoo to try to strip some of the color and this stuff works so well! This is my absolute favorite go to shampoo! I will not buy any other products currently. I have extensions in my hair and since extensions do not get the natural oil from your scalp, your have to use additional moisturizer to keep them healthy. These products does just that. Truthfully, I'm generally not into any sort of hair oil due to texture aversion–that goes for all brands. But I liked this! I do like how OGX made this oil as a mist instead of the other oil with the pump lid. In the past, the pump lid oil that is much thicker would stick everywhere else but where I wanted it on my hair! I really appreciate the innovation of an oil mist. Applying to the ends of my hair, the lighter mist oil adds some shine and softness to the touch. It smells faintly like coconuts with the floral perfumed scent that are found in hairspray—smells good though! It also might've pushed me to consider hair oils more often. I'm 51, and my once beautiful curly brown hair is just dull and lifeless. Been trying several shampoo brands for moisture and curls, from super cheap Suave to expensive Kendra, and everything in between. This exact product included. I haven't noticed hair loss like some say, but I have noticed since using this OGX bottle, my scalp is super itchy. Haven't experienced this with any other shampoos. It hasn't been a terrible brand to use, my curls are looking better again, but the itchiness is driving me crazy. Yet I have a friend that swears by it. This product has been changed and not for the better. I used to LOVE this product! Now there are some excellent one-star reviews on Amazon that really nail down the problem. Here it is very simply: this product used to have Cyclotetrasiloxane as its number one ingredient. Now its number one ingredient is Dimethicone. Look them up on the web. Whereas you used to have a luscious dry shine to your hair you now have a greasy fly away style. The oil will actually come off on your hand it is NOT a DRY shine. They even took the word shine out of their description and now they call it hydration. I really like this. For me the smell lasts a while and it does a good job of clarifying my scalp. It smells great and it does what it says it’s going to do. My only issue is that it takes a while to rinse out. My hair feels a certain way after rinsing for what I would say is my “normal” rinsing time. I probably rinse an extra 30 seconds to a minute more than usual. But that’s okay with me because I don’t use this daily so to me it’s not a giant issue. But it might be for others. My hair has literally never felt better. My hairstylist said my hair had a lot of product buildup so I researched the best product to remove it and came across this. I NEVER want to use another shampoo again! My bleached hair feels like virgin hair again and feels so clean. I saw a mix of reviews saying that this shampoo sucked all the moisture out of their hair, and I could see where this may be an initial thought in the washing process because it does feel like it’s sucking everything from your hair WHILE washing… BUT the results are amazing. My hair is absolutely obsessed. It is truly in love with this shampoo. I used to use Paul Mitchell tea tree lemon and sage thickening shampoo but now my hair can’t get enough of this stuff! It’s packed with awesome ingredients and is full of great stuff for your hair. I would recommend reading what’s in this stuff and I’m sure you’ll agree! You’ll notice in the reviews that this makes your hair stiff. That is true. This is a clarifying shampoo so that means it’s actually doing it’s job by stripping everything kinda like the life out of it because it’s trying to rid the product build up. All you have to do is go in with a bangin conditioner and you’ll be fine! I usually add all the stuff back in with a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner once this clarifies it all out. This shampoo SAVED my hair. I’ve been using Native shampoo conditioner for about 6 months and I noticed my scalp start to have so much dandruff. It was REALLY bad. My hit also seemed really oily pretty quickly. At this point, it felt like I just couldn’t get it out no matter how long I rinsed. There was just lots of build up. This shampoo literally saved my hair. After one wash, it felt significantly better and actually clean. I paired it with the curl quench conditioner on my ends (even though I have straight hair) and use a little on my scalp and my hair looks and feels so much better. I honestly picked this because it was the cheapest clarifier I could find with a good amount of fl oz. I was comparing to other brands. This clarifier is very good and I am glad I picked it up. It does exactly what it’s supposed to do. This product will also last long since we should not be clarifying our hair often. I have curly hair with a kinky texture. The directions says to use a dime-quarter size amount and I would stick by that. I used a little more than quarter size and my hair/scalp was clean fast. I had such high hopes for this brand, and especially the shampoo. I love the way the bottle looks it's so cute in the blush color, and I've heard great things from so many people about that they love the shampoo. I hate it. I need a clarifying shampoo because once a week I put a ton of oil, and sometimes hair masks as well, on my hair. I'm trying to regrow my hair, a little bit over a year ago I was completely bald, so I use mostly biotin and Castor oils. My regular shampoo washes them out pretty well, as well as my cheap drugstore shampoo, even it washes the oils out okay. I just wanted a clarifying shampoo for these weekly hair oil treatments. This shampoo did not wash the oil out of my hair at all! I was worried after shampoo because I didn't feel that squeaky clean feeling I expect from a clarifying shampoo, but I kept going thinking that maybe it was just more moisturizing than others. Nope. I got out of the shower, blow dried my hair, and it looks like I still have a ton of oil in my hair, probably because I do. I really don't understand how this is a clarifying shampoo, I even shampoo twice in my shower too, that's my routine I always shampoo twice but especially when I have oil in my hair. My first order of business today will be returning this thing to Ulta and getting the Ouai Detox that I should have just splurged on in the first place. Then I need to rewash and blow dry my hair again, for the second time within 24 hours which is infuriating. Add to all of that the fact that this thing doesn't have any scent that I can smell. I expect my hair care products to be highly scented, I prefer musky non floral scents but regardless it should be scented. When I stick my nose in the bottle I can vaguely smell something, but when using it in the shower and after: nothing, smells like literally nothing. And I had the same panic too with no scent so I checked and I can smell everything else just not this shampoo. 0/10 would definitely not recommend this shampoo, maybe the regular one is better, but I won't be finding out.jennifer.h

Tried the Degrease Shampoo because my hair is quite on the oily scale. Packaging is great and high quality bottle and tamper proof lid/foil. Upon first usage, I noticed a very floral, fruity, citrus-like scent. It smells great and reminds me of sorbet or candy. After rinsing off, the scent is much more subtle which is great that it doesnt overpower you. The shampoo so far has been great. I have thin, fine greasy hair and my daily exercise routine and having hard water does not help. I found this degrease shampoo online and it is the first shampoo that has helped my hair not be so greasy. It worked the first time I used it and it is still working well three months later. My hair is less greasy and fuller. Throughout the day, especially on a warm humid day my hair stays cleaner and the next morning my hair isn’t nearly as greasy s it used to be. Just bought my third bottle of this product online and I've finally been able to stop searching for a better one. I've tried so many shampoos over the years! Between oily scalp and product buildup, I never thought I could skip a day, but my baby fine hair was suffering for it. I honestly think most shampoos designed to remove oils and residue overstrip and create increased oil production (much like most acne medicines). It becomes a vicious cycle. This product works and does not dry out my hair and my scalp doesn't overproduce oils to make up for overdrying. This thickening shampoo is great! My hair instantly feels thicker and smoother after washing it with this shampoo! The application process is great! I like that it's made out of simple ingredients. With some shampoos, I noticed because of the harsh chemicals, my hair falls out more after washing it. With this shampoo, it's the opposite. My hair doesn't fall out and it feels and looks more healthier. The scent is amazing! The only downfall about this product is that it sometimes makes your scalp drier. I'm not a fan of this shampoo at all. It feels very drying – a thin shampoo consistency that lathers like an unusual amount, the scent is really strong and doesn't seem as luxurious as a lot of the other options, and I have to wash my hair a lot more frequently with it because it gets greasy after only 1-2 days. I won't be coming back for more. I've found some fantastic other products on Vitacost for me. My 9 year-old loves it so he uses it. We use a lot of natural products in our house and I think he loves the strong lemony scent of this compared to the "boring" or non-existent scents of our other products.strawberry
This is my DREAM shampoo, after many years of struggles and health changes! I have straight fine hair that NEVER has volume. I used to get a little volume from my thickness… that is, until I went off dairy and gluten as part of a healthier diet in my mid-30s. Losing that "overdose" of calcium (and I mean, I was ADDICTED to dairy, so I went from a huge dairy diet to none) just changed my body. There were many positive changes, and this was a holistic health decision, and I stand by it, but I was so sad at what became of my hair. Five years after my diet changes, I got pregnant, and pregnancy vitamins helped my hair thicken again, but of course, when pregnancy and breastfeeding were over, I stopped the vitamins, and my hair got thinner than it was before pregnancy. I tried many suggestions about rose oil and the horse shampoo to help hair growth, etc. But none of it really helped, and the horse shampoo just made my hair hang and look sad. So when I tried Desert Essence's Mango, I picked this scent because it said it helped with volume, but I didn't have much hope. Oh my friggin' goodness, this stuff was AWESOME!!! I began to see results after the first couple of washes, and when I use the Mango Conditioner too, it's even better. I love how it smells. My husband is really attracted to the scent. My toddler notices the smell too and likes the smell of mom's hair. I normally dye and highlight my hair, and this has been really reparative and restorative to the harshness of those chemicals. I?m reviewing this product because I got a free sample from Ocado. If I'm being totally honest, I probably wouldn't have looked at this due to the price of the bottle, but I'm really glad I got the sample and will definitely buy this again. I find a lot of shampoos clean my hair, but I don't always feel my scalp has had enough of a cleanse, but this shampoo is different. I've used it twice since I received it and both times my hair and scalp have felt completely cleansed and refreshed (even in this sticky heatwave we're having!). It is slightly runnier in consistency than other shampoos I've used, but I felt that made it easier to spread around and it lathers up beautifully. It's not as strongly scented as some cheaper shampoos, but the fragrance is pleasantly fresh and lasts well. I used less conditioner because this made my hair so soft, especially after the second wash, and I have a sensitive scalp that wasn't irritated after using. When I first used this I wasn't sure how I would like it. The initial smell was kind of odd, it is unscented but it has a smell if that makes sense lol. I have used it for about a week or two and honestly it is amazing. I use it with the conditioner and my hair is so soft! I let the shampoo sit on my head for a minute before washing it out, then use the conditioner and let that sit for a minute. I have wavy hair and before using this product I had actually thought my hair was going back to being straight (I wasn't seeing as much wave as before, maybe from other shampoos weighing them down). I have long, thick, balayaged hair that lives way more of a fabulous life than I do. I don’t skimp on shampoo and for that reason I have always liked all the Biolage shampoos I’ve tried. They are high quality and come in very nice sized bottles for the price. That is why I was so very eager to try smooth proof because my hair is also wavy and without some taming, it can get pretty wild. I first tried this shampoo a few times without the conditioner (This is me most days for sake of time and also to avoid build up) and I was so happy with the results. It did not weight my hair down at all. The wave was more cohesiveness and it was soft and so shiny! I do use with the conditioner at least once a week and that is where you really see the smooth get to another level. However, it didn’t weight it all completely down, I still had plenty of lift at my crown without any real styling (Which I generally avoid) Like all the other Biolage shampoos I’ve tried, it lathers well. You don’t need much. I also really love the floral scent, reminds me of orange mlossom. I’ve been using it for more than a month now and my hair still feels great. My daughters and I have been thoroughly enjoying this shampoo and it’s something we can all use. My older has thick wavy hair and works wonderfully for her. The shampoo and conditioner is perfect and enough for her hair. My youngest daughter has curly 3B hair but it’s very fine and thin and the shampoo does work wonderfully for her hair too. I always use leave in conditioner but that day I had to use double the amount of what I normally use. Otherwise my hair felt & looked dry & frizzy. The product definitely did help with detangling my hair, not totally, but to a great enough degree where I was pleased. I didn’t notice any improvement in shine though. I was hoping to experience much more of an overall difference from all the various products I have used in the past. No huge noticeable difference, and more expensive than what I currently use. So I really enjoyed using the product on both my baby girl and my own hair. Because we have very very different hair types, I noticed some important things. She has a healthy head of very fine, very varied coil curls. The shampoo worked great on very wet hair, it lathered well for a clarifying shampoo without turning her hair into dry grass. I rinsed twice to make sure the water ran well and clear. The conditioner was light and moisturizing, as promoted. I took the time to work it into all strands while damp to slightly wet with a curly hair wet brush. Afterward rinsing the conditioner lightly, I put in the styling cream. Here I realized I'd put in way too much, but the effect was still very good. Her curls were less prone to tangling, moisturized and made beautiful defined coils. My hair is fine but wavy, not curly. However my hair is super dry. I like using heavily moisturizing products from time to time to feed my hair. The products were too heavy for fine straighter hair, but it really moisturized heavily. My hair has a healthy strong feel and a beautiful glisten that it has after a moisturizing hair mask. Overall, on straighter finer hair, I'd say use the conditioner thoroughly but rinse very well and easy on the styling cream. I didn't experience any waxiness anywhere.Thali22

I have mixed feelings about this shampoo and conditioner. Got both in the standard size a couple of months ago. At first, I really liked it, but I didn't love it. It didn't leave my hair as dry as some other shampoos do, and the conditioner made them feel smoother without adding more weight, even while still in a shower. These days, I wash my hair a couple of times a week, so I expected that this stay-at-home regiment would help my strands heal. I have fine curly hair that I used to straighten daily with a dryer and sometimes iron until relatively recently. What happened with this set, however, is that I started having dandruff after about a month. I had never had dandruff in my life before! It also seems that I'm losing more hair than I used to. Despite using a decent amount of conditioner, I can barely brush my wet hair. And if I don't brush when it's still wet, I may not be able to brush it at all. This is despite using the Ghost oil (that I generally like) and Moroccan Oil leave-in conditioner for my ends. I was attributing these issues to the general stress and cold weather but as I read negative reviews, I thought of other brands that I liked at the beginning and then started to like less, and it was the opposite problem: they made my hair greasy after two bottles, but at the beginning, they moisturized and conditioned perfectly. I'll give this product three stars and the benefit of the doubt: maybe it works better on other hair types.madraccoon
This product was so bad, I'm writing my first ever Ulta review. I was truly so excited about this shampoo/conditioner, but i've now been using it for 2-3 weeks and can easily say my hair has never felt worse. I have long dirty blonde straight hair that's fairly thick- this product manages to DRY it out, so badly that even my scalp started getting itchy and flaky (something that hasn't happened to me in years). When i let it air dry, it feels like my hair is hardening into a little shell. I thought maybe I was leaving product in, but now i scrub for so long trying to avoid the helmet head feeling, that it makes the dryness and scalp even worse. On top of all that, because of how drying it is, my hair gets greasy FAST. like within 24 hours. It's tangly, it's greasy, it feels like the sahara, it's truly awful. I set a countdown calendar in my phone for the day I get to go return this product. The ghost oil is great, but save your money and your hair and avoid this like the plagueSydney
When I bought this shampoo I thought it was pretty basic but after trying other shampoos, I realized it's a good thing. A safe choice for people that have little to no hair concerns and just want something to get the job done. There's a light citrus smell that doesn't linger after you leave the shower. Lathers well enough to feel clean but not drying. I don't get this squeaky or straw like feeling I get with other shampoos while washing. There's not too much of a moisture effect that feels like it's being weighed down it also doesn't give me scalp acne. The thing I liked most was how when my hair finished drying, my scalp didn't feel tight, dry, or itchy. It just felt normal. I do have to say that there isn't super significant results when it comes to how your hair looks. It just makes my hair feel lighter and balanced. This really is a 'Brilliant' shampoo. If you want squeaky clean, nicely scented hair, I have never come across anything better (& there's many years' experience of trying hundreds of others)! It works so well, seems to get rid of all the products I use for styling etc and the squeak, I am sure you could hear from the other side of the bathroom! I can't believe how many reviewers say they actually like the smell of this product. Maybe mine is a bad batch? But the smell is so bad it makes me so nauseous. It just smells like baby oil and herbs but sooo strong it's unbearable. I regret buying this and which I had a sample first. I used it only once and had to rewash my hair because the smell lingered. Just way too strong. The condition smells terrible too, but not AS strong as the shampoo, and the conditioner works okay, but I got the cherry almond instead. I hate strong smells I wish it had more of a subtle, more floral or feminine smell to it. It is just such a weird smelling shampoo. I used this shampoo and conditioner for years, only changed because I started coloring my hair. I quit coloring my hair and was very excited to start using the Brilliant line again. Sad to say…it doesn't smell as wonderful as it used to! I loved the shine, softness and the beautiful smell it left in my hair but it's definitely not as amazing as it was! I'm disappointed so I'm not sure I'm going to keep it, I also herd they changed Aveda products and I'm afraid that could be the issue. Broken hearted:(. My natural gwols know how frustrating it can be to wash, moisturize and style your hair and then it be dry and toe up the next. I know how it feels to buy a hundred plus dollars of products to be disappointed or mixing them with new products so money isn't wasted. I washed my hair the first day I bought this and fell in love. My hair was soft. It didn't dry out after and the tea tree leave-in…girl use that too! I haven't tried the detailing conditioner yet because they were out of stock when I purchased. Probably because of that half off sale. I did find that this and Taliah's apple aloe deep conditioner work well together. My hair was shiny, easy to comb and style. I also used the Tgin moisturizer. I have a mix of 4b and 4c hair. My daughter's has 4b hair and it works perfect for her. Her wash and go's hold all day even after recess and a long day at school. My sister has used a nice amount of the leave in and moisturizer, now I have to buy more lol. I am going to try the honey mask and the anti-breakage serum. I will be leaving reviews also. I want to note I am leaving this review after a few weeks of using. I like to get a feel. I washed my hair with the Taliah apple aloe shampoo and it was giving dry and not for me. I have moderately frizzy but mostly straight Caucasian hair and I've been using natural, sulfate/paraben free shampoos for a year or so now. I like TGIN because it makes my hair SUPER silky and soft. The conditioner detangles so well that I can easily wide tooth comb my hair straight out of the shower. However, my hair does feel very heavy and has NO volume whatsoever after using this. I also have to wash more frequently as my hair gets oily way faster, oily to the point it looks bad. In my household, at any one given time, I've got a handful of their products in rotation. This particular line doesn't get as much hype as their others but should. My daughter (toddler) has wavy curly hair in the back that would turn into what we called a “rats nest” I’d wash her hair at night and by the middle of the next day her hair would look died out and was very knotted. I grabbed the curly q shampoo and conditioner and fell in love! I can go two days without washing her hair now. Her curls look hydrated and are super soft! My husband used it not knowing what it was and his natural curls were the best I’ve ever seen them until he went and straightened his hair lol. I’ve used it in my other kids who have straight hair and their hair comes out super soft. It does have a strong scent to it, but it is a very pleasant one.
