I 've owned several aurora micro shredders. Have used them to exhaustion. This was to replace my latest one that I wore out. However, this one is in a very thin flimsy, top heavy basket. Very disappointed in product, I feel that I will have to prop against a wall if I should use it, which is doubtful. This is not meant for office or heavy use, but is quite adequate for home use where mail and old files need to be destroyed. Although listed as an 8 sheet shredder, I find that 4 sheets work best. It is not particularly loud. Due to some reviews, I had the CSR at pickup open the box in order to examine it before accepting it. No problem there. I have gotten rid of a years worth of receipts and bills. I did not run it continuously so did not encounter any overheat or excessive duty cycle. The bin doesn't hold a lot but as I mentioned, it is not for heavy duty use. I would recommend this machine.Frank

Have had this shredder for a couple weeks, and so far it's working great. I bought it after my previous shredder stopped shredding and starting sounding like a power mower (it was 5 years old and a different brand). I like how finely this one shreds. This machine smells like it's burning (a very strong smell) after only shredding items for a few minutes. My old 6 sheet one of the same brand never smelled like it was burning. I gave this one a half hour rest and it immediately smells like it's burning if you just put a few pieces of paper through it. It also bogs down if you put more than 2 sheets of paper in it. Look for another brand, don't buy this one. It's not worth the extra money for extra capacity if it can't even handle a few pages. Also, it takes forever to start working when you put paper in it. I did a lot of checking the reviews of other brands, most of which were extremely useful. I purchased the necessary oil for the blades, before running into trouble, thanks to other reviews. I have only had it for a week, so it still has to stand the test of long use. It cuts to confetti which is what I required. What I was looking is a Shredder with reasonable good space for the shredded paper. I looked into several models and brands, and this one the first on my list. Happyly it was in stock. Simple, you plug it, set it in auto and you are done. Motor feels powerful although, and when running a little bit noise too – but that's ok. The window on the front of the can let's you know when it's full of paper and the controls on top gives you all you need for any situtation. It is supposed to handle 10 regular letter sheets. I am very pleased with the way my Fellowes Power shredder works. To get the most out of it you must use it wisely and correctly with care. The blades are super sharp, so they perform the job they are to do. This kind of shredding allows for privacy and diminishes the opportunity for fraud/identity theft. That's why I like it. It runs, but the gears are moving in reverse so the sheets won't feed, therefore it will not shred anything. Researched out a few MicroCut Shredders on the web and they all appeared to be way higher priced than my OLD shredder that I broke/stripped the gears on. Then I came across this item and researched out the specs, basically this was comparable to my old shredder and pretty good cheaper price. So I decided to jump on it, After using it, I am happy enough with it, But i guess shredders now adays seem to be more safety infused. I have only 2 minor issues with this item compared to my last shredder but by no means makes me want to send back. 1. it seems slower to shred. 2.What engineer decided to put the shredder cut mechanism dropping down to one side and not middle of bucket, hence when shredding a lot, the side that most of the shredder is dropping on will make the fill up stop detector turn on when its not close to fill. You then have to semi pull the bin and shake it to fill up a bit more.Francis
I went back and forth on buying this shredder. Thought of getting a cheaper 12 sheet model but knew much of what i would be regularly shredding would be more than 12 sheets and folded. So one day i just put in my cart and took it home. I was nothing but amazed by the build quality when i opened the box. It’s heavy. I realized i had bought a professional level machine and it was much, much better than others i had seen in this price range. I began shredding. It’s very quiet. Piles of papers i had planned to take to a professional shredder and pay to be shredded suddenly were gone and cross shredded. I shredded for a solid 30 plus minutes non stop multiple, multiple times and it never once jammed or struggled to shred everything i threw at it. I wish i had not waited to make this purchase. It is worth every penny to know my documents are securely destroyed. It now only takes a second to place the daily junk mail and personal information in to the slot and watch it just quietly disappear. That feels really good after having such a back up of paper that is now all securely gone. If you need a shredder ….. Buy this one you wont regret it!David
Was optimistic based on the other reviews but unfortunately it didn't work out. The first thing I put in it was a 4 sheet stack of regular paper. First thing I noticed was that when it ran, all the lights on that particular breaker dimmed. The unit seized up about half way through the sheets. It now has an overload light on that will not clear. The unit tries to run but still dims the lights which tells me this shredder is pulling more than the listed 5 amps so there definitely a problem with the electronics. Same thing on 2 other outlets in my house on different breakers. I put the old shredder back in place and no issues so it's definitely the shredder. Not sure if I'll try another one at this point.GTA

This machine smells like it's burning (a very strong smell) after only shredding items for a few minutes. My old 6 sheet one of the same brand never smelled like it was burning. I gave this one a half hour rest and it immediately smells like it's burning if you just put a few pieces of paper through it. It also bogs down if you put more than 2 sheets of paper in it. Look for another brand, don't buy this one. It's not worth the extra money for extra capacity if it can't even handle a few pages. Also, it takes forever to start working when you put paper in it. I did a lot of checking the reviews of other brands, most of which were extremely useful. I purchased the necessary oil for the blades, before running into trouble, thanks to other reviews. I have only had it for a week, so it still has to stand the test of long use. It cuts to confetti which is what I required. I was fearful that the device would be too loud, as we live in an apartment, with other units above and below, and on the same level as us. We are very mindful of NOISE!!! However, the noise level is completely acceptable!!! It PURRS! The device is on wheels, also has handles on the sides, fits into a corner of my office, so it is always ready for use.Cautious
What I was looking is a Shredder with reasonable good space for the shredded paper. I looked into several models and brands, and this one the first on my list. Happyly it was in stock. Simple, you plug it, set it in auto and you are done. Motor feels powerful although, and when running a little bit noise too – but that's ok. The window on the front of the can let's you know when it's full of paper and the controls on top gives you all you need for any situtation. It is supposed to handle 10 regular letter sheets. I tested it and it was able to crunch 14 of them, but of course it was just a test. There is a nice handle on the top when you need to remove the Shreeder motor from the can. And overall, in spite the nice can size, it's still compact. In summary, for the price it's great.JAMPS

This thing is a BEAST! It is powerful, can chew up 4-6 pieces like nothing!! I read the previous reviews because we wanted a good shredder for those times when you just have a lot of paper/ tax stuff. I looked at the office supply stores and they had nothing but the smaller ones, which we have one for bills, but the aren't built for alot of shredding or the $100 ones with a basket. I didn't need a basket shredder. I have not tried to do a credit card, or cd, but I have no doubt it will chew it up. This does do strips and not cross cut shredding like my small desktop model. It has a handle on one side so you can adjust it over different size trash cans or recycling bins. I am SO happy I got this shredder!lid535

This paper shredder cuts into strips but strips are only about an inch long. If you don't have the original waste basket or if the waste basket breaks you can still use it but there is a button on the bottom you will need to press down on and tape over it so the button is always pressed. Normally this button would be pressed by it sitting on the original waste basket. But chances are you won't have that exact shape on your home waste basket. Overall very nice paper shredder. I can take junk mail and put the whole envelope without even opening the junk mail. . Only once did I have junk mail that had a plastic like a credit card inside the envelope that stopped it. Backed out the envelope and put the plastic credit card thru by itself and it went right thru. Then I put in the half shredded paper part and that went thru. Also anything with staples – I usually remove the staples.cheryl771

I followed the 6 page limit – it still broke quickly. It overheats very fast. And you have to wait 45 minutes to an hour for it to start working again. It jammed with only 3 sheets of paper, I completely removed the jam and it no longer works. The motor runs but nothing happens with the paper. In the booklet there is a warranty. I contacted support to help, and hope they will call back to fix this.Crich
This has to be the most horrible shredder ever. First, doesnt really shred. If you put more than one page in, the pages tear but dont cut completely through forcing you to manually pull the paper apart. Dont even bother trying to cut up a credit card. Previously owned this brand, and it was a horse, lasting several years. But nothing lasts forever, and I had to replace it. Since my first one was so good, I preferred another Aurora. Just know that you have to fold a sheet of paper in half. It won't take a flat sheet of 8-1/2 x 11 paper. The slot to insert the paper is only about 4-1/2" wide. For home use, or anyone who does little shredding, they should be happy with this model. I think it does a fine job of shredding–fast, smooth, and not noisy. Nice design. Excellent buy for the $s.
I love this shredder! Works great for occasional household use. I shredded 50 or more pages in an hour. I had to keep a big trash bin nearby. The shredder bin fills up fast. Yes you have to fold the paper in half vertically but that was not difficult for me. This shredder is a lot quieter than my old shredder. The only problem was my fault- they include a small pointy pen like item in case of paper jam. The bin has a small pocket specifically to hold this item. I dumped the bin into the trash and this pointy item went with it. I did not notice that I had thrown out the pointy item until it was too late! But since the machine never jammed yet I have yet to need it. I could probably use a chopstick or a pen to replace that missing pointy item. If you have occasional mail and household shredding and don't want to look at a big ugly shredder this is the perfect item for you.BullheadCityArizona
I bought this because I liked the small basket but that became one of the problems with the unit. It would jam very quickly because there was little room for the shredded paper to go. I have to stop the unit after just a few items and clean it before I can do more shredding. It now is only a year old and no longer works in the forward shred at all!!! The directions say to shred something heavy to clean any jams but that only helped for a dozen or more shreds and then it once again stopped working. I am now looking for another unit and certainly will not buy another Aurora brand!!gmabas

I am very pleased with the way my Fellowes Power shredder works. To get the most out of it you must use it wisely and correctly with care. The blades are super sharp, so they perform the job they are to do. This kind of shredding allows for privacy and diminishes the opportunity for fraud/identity theft. That's why I like it. One drawback, do not shred address labels/anything with a gummy/sticky backing. You may have to use a steel bristle brush to get the gummy stamps off the blades. The Fellowes 6M shredder is an awesome pick for a wide variety of shredding needs, offering reliable performance and outstanding features. It was able to shred continuously for five minutes at a time, tearing through stacks of 1 to 10 sheets without jamming. This shredder was gifted to me. I like the compact look of it and the fact that it can shred cards and staples into micro pieces. HOWEVER, this shredder has stopped pulling in the paper. It runs, but the gears are moving in reverse so the sheets won't feed, therefore it will not shred anything. Yes, it is set in the correct position – in fact, you can only move the slide from "I" to "O" positions not "R", but it's running in reverse. The lock button is stuck in the unlock position. I have tried everything I can to no avail. This shredder will not work – an after only having it about 3 weeks. I truly do like Fellows products, but this one is giving me a hard time.Glenda
