Best Stationary Bike For Elderly (2023 Update)

The R5i bike itself performs well, but we a very disappointed in the fact that it will not properly interface with our blue tooth devices. This feature was one of deciding factors in purchasing the bike. We can not record and save our workout results without this. One call to support has pointed us to a Beta version of a new app, but it does not work thus far. We sincerely hope LifeSpan will come up with a fix.Michael W.

The actual bike is fantastic, if you can get it to work, and you are totally on your own if you need assistance. Ours (brand new purchase) worked for about 6 weeks and then started making a loud grinding noise when being peddled and now it's totally unusable. You can check the support section here and you'll see that there is only a chatbot available to contact if you have issues with your item. If you're lucky, you can find the phone number to support in the manual, but you just leave voicemail after voicemail and no one calls you back. If you do purchase, definitely make sure to get a good protection plan, because LifeSpan will not back up their manufacturers warranty and there is no way to hold them accountable. Even the chatbot says that they will get back to you between 7-10 days with next steps, but there is no way (aside from screenshots) to show that you've submitted a ticket (they do not send you a confirmation email), so you end up continuously submitting tickets to no one. 7-10 days of not being able to use a $1,600 piece of equipment and even then, no call back. Luckily I purchased a great protection plan, which is facilitating the repair/return here. Such a bummer. I love this bike, actually used to own a R3i years ago, but I have had the same issue with LifeSpan not backing up their equipment. I find it ironic that they're offering discounts on more orders when they can't return the call or follow-up on the tickets of their current customers.Heather F.

The R5i Recumbent Bike is exactly what was advertised. Convenient, easy to use, and quiet. I am a large person and it is comfortable. It is very nice to have a device that can get my heart rate up and a good sweat going while watching TV at home. In this time of social distancing, it also gives me a feeling of safety that was no longer available at my gym.John P.

I love the bike! But the exercise computer does not work well. I changed the batteries, but that didn’t change the problem. I’ve read the user manual telling of how to reset, have tried all that, and it didn’t change anything. The numbers flash constantly without reason. Is there any suggestions on how to fix this? I like this machine . I just started using it because had to wait for my daughter to assemble it. I am 80 and could not see well enough to do it myself. I got it because my back doctor advised that I start using something like it, for exercise. When i went through PT, prior to a surgical procedure on my back, I was advised by the manager of my therapy to get one for exercise, in lieu of walking on the streets. I have been using it for a few days now and can say that I think I made a good choice when purchasing an exercise machine.MAJOR D.

It took over five frustrating hours for two people to put this bike together. The written instructions were extremely confusing. Without the help from YouTube we would still be struggling to finish the job. One of the brackets under the seat was severely bent and no amount of torc would straighten it out. Consequently one of the screws does will not fit in order to further secure the bike seat. I do not feel that I should be inconvenienced further by having someone help me once again to remove the seat, take a photo and provide further information for my complaint to be resolved. All I asked for was to be issued a $50 credit to my Visa card to compensate for the damaged part. On the plus side the bike seat is very comfortable.Ann

Purchased the bike on 1/18/21 so just had t for 1 month and today (2/24/21), while using it, the belt from the crank to the flywheel popped off the crank. I had to take ~10 screws to remove the belt cover and realign. I notice the crank pull is a bad design and done not allow the belt to self align or force the belt in the grooves. All this could of been prevented only if the designers would of added a higher wall on the pulley to keep the belt in place. Other than this, the bike was great.trung

An okay machine for the price, but the company really should move manufacture to India for better quality if it's going to stay offshore. Assembly hardware is so-so. The digital display needs a backlight, hard to make anything out. The provided tools are cumbersome to work with, ended up using my own. Comes with cheap Chinese batteries for the display, toss them and put in some high quality AAAs. Seat is hard on my wife and daughter's, um, area. An ordinary bike, nothing special.Richard D.

Amazing experience with this purchase and Sunny Health Fitness. We knew our options for exercising would be limited as COVID-19 began to spread. We are both disabled and being able to exercise is vital to both our mental and physical health. We have a small living space and did not think we could squeeze a treadmill into it; and the cost was quite prohibitive. We decided to search for a stationary bike instead and found this online with Sunny – so we decided to go for it. I was concerned that it might take weeks, maybe even months, before our purchase would arrive. We understood that might happen with the nationwide shutdowns due to the virus. We were completely blown away by the excellent communication from Sunny's skeleton crew. The bike was delivered safely in a very short period of time (thx to the delivery co. as well). It was easy to put together, no missing parts, all drilled holes lined up. I had been dubious about the pink color. While I do like pink – I am sharing this with a male and it is now in our living room – I thought it might look cheesy, too girly / childish or gaudy in our space. It is actually very cute and attractive! We love it! It is not cheap (I expected it might be due to the great price). It is very well made. Works great. We are using it every day. I love to sit on it and watch the news. The seat is quite good. The tension is easy to adjust. I was surprised by what a great workout this can help one achieve. It is not completely silent, but the noise is not loud or annoying at all. We are very, very pleased with our purchase and want to thank the Sunny employees who worked so hard at communicating and getting our purchase to us safely and quickly in such extraordinary times. Works great and is built better than the other exercise bikes I have had. Air from wheel blows forward and not on you, which I like. Air sound is the only noise. My favorite style regular bike seat that is padded fit right on and is full adjustable on this bike. I would have no idea why anyone would not like this bike. I ordered this bike to add a non-impact component to our family garage gym routine we've been going hard at for 3 months. I've used a few different versions of these bikes at various gyms including the classic Airdyne. _x000D_ Building the bike out of the box took less than 45 minutes. Instructions were simple. I would have trusted my 14 year old to assemble it, but he chose mowing the lawn between the two. _x000D_ All components were in the box. Packaging Was done well. Not a scratch or dent anywhere. The styrofoam clearly absorbed some impacts during shipping, but the product remained unaffected. _x000D_ The bike has four people testing it out within the first 30 minutes of its assembled life. This bike is easy to use and does not take up much space. The wheels on the front bar are a very helpful feature, making it convenient to move. This bike was also very easy to assemble. I am very satisfied with this bike. It is quiet, has enough resistance so that I can get an aerobic workout (I am in my 50s) and does not take up a lot of floorspace. It was easy enough to put together and I see no reason to spend tons of money on an exercise bike, so for me, the price was reasonable. This is the best piece of exercise equipment I have ever bought. It's super compact so it fits in a corner of my house, has wheels on the bottom of the front legs to move around (like a dolly) and can have multiple positions to best fit your biking style. Putting this thing together was very very easy and it comes with a meter that keeps track of time, miles, pulse, speed, and a total odometer for lifetime miles traveled on the bike. It's resistance is really great as well. I keep at 5 (out of 10). I don't know what hard core biking people like for their resistance but I get a real sweat on this thing.Anne T.

Before purchasing it, I had thought about buying the less expensive bike but then read the reviews for this and discovered it offered the different positions whereas the cheaper one did not. I am so glad I spent the extra dollars and bought this one. It folds up for easy storage, it has height adjustments for the seat and also for the type of ride you want ( one is more reclined while the other way gives you that bicycle feel) it is very quiet and comfortable to ride. I have been using the fitness superstore for cardio equipment for almost quarter of a century, and have always recieved great customer service. My 1st purchase was a tunturi rowing machine form their premises at that time behind a local bakery. My last purchase was a tunturi E80 cycle back in 2008 which is now showing its age and the brake has started to slip. Before that was a Kettler Mondeo cross trainer back in 2006 which is still going well! So decided to replace my old bike with the life fitness C3 which was deliveried within 2 working days from order! Assembly was ok, and seems like a well built bit of kit so hopefully it will last at least as long as my previous cycle. Have only been on it a couple of times but nice and smooth when pedalling and feels solid. I also like the connect console. I have connected my phone to lfconnect and will see how it goes. I purchased this exercise bike as it was too cold and wet to go outside on my road bike this winter. The only quibble I have got is that the saddle is set in one position and not adjustable and I keep slipping forward. I have had to put some "stay put non slip matting" on the saddle which is not ideal considering the price of the machine! Also the console is very sensitive. Apart from that, all good.Kay B.

Assembly was relatively easy as long as you follow the instructions carefully. This bike does what it supposed to however not very comfortably. There is hardly any cushion in the seat and backrest. I understand this is not supposed to be a luxury recliner however it’s really hard to exercise when after five minutes of peddling your butt hurts. That’s saying a lot for someone like me who has a lot of extra padding to peddle off. Also the handlebars beside the seat that have the heart rate sensors is set to low, I have to actually stop peddling and Scooch down the seat just to reach for full contact. I have been spinning on a regular basis (5-6 X per week) for the past 10 years. Got this bike for home after the lockdown so I wouldn't have to be without spin classes. I have to say that this bike is GREAT! I didn't know what to expect and I can recommend this bike without reservation. There are many home cycling apps available so one can use it with any of them (I stream through my TV) It was delivered to my door and it was super easy to put together (comes with everything you need including parts AND tools and clear instructions). I have been doing spinning for 15 years and have wanted an indoor bike for the longest time. I finally committed to the purchase after reading tons of reviews on different belt driven bikes. The package arrived in 8 days without any damage and took about 30 minutes to assemble with help from my 14 year old son. It looks sharp snd the quality is top notch – even better than some of the gym bikes I've ridden. It's also incredibly sturdy during sprints and jumps. I bought a wahoo cadence sensor for my shoe to pair with the Peloton classes and I look forward to doing classes everyday….. even at 5:30 AM. Just got this yesterday, and first things first, the packaging is awesome! Very thoroughly packed in a sturdy box. This is often overlooked. Product was well packaged and undamaged. Very easy to unpack all the parts to get ready for assembly. The owners manual was surely written by someone with a command of the English language. Instructions were well written and easy to understand and follow. A breeze to assemble. Product seems very well engineered. Only rode for about half hour but seems to work fine and is sturdy. Im 5'10 220 and sons are 6' 190. All three of us use it. Its not super duty quality. Only concern is 2 bolts by handle bar, I bought steel screws and not its very sturdy. Otherwise too much movement that i felt would strip with use. Super quiet and functional. Definitely recommend it. We use it alot especially now with the Covid situation. The Bike Arrived and I was very excited. I put it together in about and hour total (but I kept being interrupted).Maybe a little more. I like things like that though. I rode it first day, great!, My daughter and I rode it second day (great)! The third day… I'm riding and it starts with a clunk! I stopped and my daugher aske, Mom what was that? I said, I'm not sure adjusted the tention (mind you it has stayed on 3) and was hopeful that, that was the problem… NOPE! So if I use it, it start of the first 30 seconds… whisper quite like before. It gives me hope. And then clunk, clunk, clunk. To the point where I don't want to ride it anymore, because the clunk is so loud that you can feel it in the floor and I'm sure our neighbors are wondering what in the Heck is going on! Have not had the bike long and the noise it makes is unbearable. My husband took it apart and we can’t figure out where exactly it’s coming from. I bought it for my own physical therapy because of my back and joint problems and my husband has switched to using it in place of our non-recumbent stationary bike, too. Easiest assembly of this type machine I've seen. Fits my 6'1'' 190 pound frame nicely at maximum seat height. Smooth working, nice regulated resistance for consistent workouts. I don't place much trust in electronic meter metabolic reads, but the timer function plus my own practiced speed/rhythm work together to give good workouts. Would buy it again.R.E.

Over all very pleased. Little surprised at the weight of the box containing the bike, but once I got the bike unpacked, sorted out, and performed the require assembly I was up and riding. Instructions were not not hard to follow but some of the small parts (washers especially) were a little confusing on which direction the odd washers faced. We are very pleased with this equipment. The assembly instructions were very well laid out. We are repeat Nordic Track customers in that we have had their original ski machine for years. We are able to use the machine manually however I am disappointed that we are unable to use the onboard workouts because you need to sync with a tablet which I don't own. The result of design is D if the designer is my student. I had to exchange tools again and again while installed because there are different types of screws. And one of allen wrenches is wrong size. It’s too sort to install. In fact, I have not able to install one screw because there is not space enough to include any tool. The tools in package for install are not enough. Easier to put together than expected. We’ll packaged but heavy (2 people needed to move it). It took about 45 minutes to put together. Comes with IFIT for a month, subscription required to continue but loads of videos on Utube free if you don’t want the monthly $15 payment. Very comfortable and quiet! Needs a plug close by. I am very pleased that I bought this exercise bike. I am 67. I had no problem carrying it inside. It was easy to assemble; about 15 minutes max including unwrapping the parts. It is sturdy, quality construction that should last. The seat is a good size & padded comfortably. The pedals are thick sturdy rubber. I’m 5’5” & the seat adjustment had plenty of height options up & down from where I chose. The handlebars are great. I can easily lift & carry the bike if I want to move it. It’s easy to fold up or unfold & it’s a nice slim space saver size. I especially like that the panel read outs automatically rotate to show you how you’re doing in each option. I can’t think of any areas that could be troublesome; this bike was well thought out!debinsacto

If you catch this bike on sale it is an excellent deal. Really impressed with it, even unfolded it does not require that much space. It is easy to operate, seat is comfortable and resistance is smooth and ultra quiet. Much sturdier than you would think at first glance. I’ve been working out at my home gym but lately it’s been so hot and wasn’t in the mood to go uphill walking or jump roping so I decided to look up for foldable bike so I can easily fold it and put it away so it won’t take too much space of my home gym. Setting it together was easy and took me 20 mins! This bike is not meant for short people. Only 5’4 and up! I’m 5’4 and I had no problem getting on or pedaling. The original price was $160 but they had price drop so I copped it for $85!! GREAT AFFORDABLE PRICE FOR THIS BIKE AND I LOVE IT ! My wife loves this machine. So far it hasn’t had any issues. It wasn’t very difficult to put together either. The assembly instructions were a little tough to walk through, but I managed. the only issue is that the seat bracket that you slide back and forth is a little wobbly due to too much clearance on the rail, but it isn’t a deal breaker. the metal coating seems very tough and durable. it is also nice that we don’t have to plug it in to work. The machine is also very quiet as well. The seat is comfortable too.daniel

The Marcy NS-1201R Magnetic Resistance Recumbent Bike is simple to put together and takes a small amount of time. The Booklet that is included has very good instructions and pictures to assist in assembly. My 12 year old Granddaughter and i put it together with only one simple problem. After it was assembled i read the manual on how it operates and climbed on board to give it a spin. The booklet says the LCD screen wakes up when you begin to cycle but i noticed it did not on mine. I tried pushing the buttons on the screen and the screen lite up but showed stop in top corner even though i was pedaling. I took the screen off and checked the electrical connection and that was fine. Then i checked the connection where the front post connects to the main body and found one of the connections had been bent down. After straightening the connector it worked fine. This exerciser uses magnetic resistance which is adjusted by the user with a knob on the front post to increase or decrease the difficulty of the pedaling. It goes from 1 with is easy to 8 which is hardest. The LCD screen shows how you are doing by scanning your speed, distance, time and calories burned. It keeps a running record of your workout or you can clear the record by holding down the reset button. The seat is very comfortable and adjustable and can get you closer to the pedals or further away as needed. You can hang onto the handle bars next to the screen or the ones located at seat level. I wish the seat back adjusted forward or backward independent to the seat but it does not. The bike is well built and i saw no defects in welds and bolts went into place easily. The bike is quiet and smooth to operate and i feel i will use a lot more than i would go to a gym due to the convenience of having equipment at home.jsjsjsjs

It took longer than estimated to arrive by a little over a week from original date; by w/ the virus shutdown, it's understandable. My wife and I have both used it several times and are both pleased w/ it. Quite sturdy for an inexpensive piece of home equipment. Set up wasn't bad either. Despite some concerns over being comfortable for people of wide ranges in height we have found no real issue. I'm 6'2" and my wife is 5'1" and it accommodates us both well. There may be one or two minor wish items for this bike, but again, they're minor. I'm pleased enough w/ the product that I would consider another piece of equipment from this manufacturer.PartsGuru

I've been using this cycler for 5 weeks so can;t say much about long term durability. It does, however, seem very sturdily built. I'm 67 years of age and have scoliosis and arthritis so don't exercise like a marathon runner. Just want to maintain muscle tone and basic cardio function. This unit suits my needs perfectly. I use it on a very low resistance level for 15 minutes at a time. I don't have a chair high enough to use it in a perpendicular fashion as the manufacturers intended; so, I place it up against a heavy bookcase. The only issue I have is with the timer. After a month, it quit working. Probably the battery needs changing. More problematic is the resistance level of the button on the timer. You have to push very hard for it to have any effect. Well worth the price, would recommend to a friend.JoanC

I bought this as an additional exercise option. I either ride my hybrid bike or walk the local track, daily, in the mornings. When the weather is bad, I have a stepper. As you can see, I do believe in exercising. (FYI– I am 63). But I found myself needing to do something in the evenings to counteract my dinner meal. I was falling asleep too quickly, once I set down. I looked for this type of machine and am very happy, thus far, that I chose this one! It is very well made and very minimal installation: attaching two knobs and the monitor. I sit in a straight chair and just cycle. You can adjust the tension to your liking and read or watch tv, etc. No stress on your joints and you go as long as you want (I do about 30 min.) I LOVE IT! ONE TIP: I have wood floors, so it would slide somewhat, but I solved that by going to Wal Mart's hardware dept and purchasing "Gripper Pads"– 2 1/2", 4 pieces for $3.94 (blue package) and my problem was solved! (Attach the gripper pad to the Cycle, center it.) NO MORE SLIDING!Carol

0 Stars is my true review. Bought this and it was clearly not a new item. It had been opened and tried by a previous customer. It had dust, scuffs and dirt on it and even a customer's hair. Best Buy should not sell used products to customers. It was a waste of time having to return this item. Plus the person that returned it was gross and had dirt and hair all over it…both the person and Best Buy should have some decency in the future and at least clean an item before returning it. If an item has scuffs and dents, then don't sell it to a new customer who paid good money for it. I think the item should not have been approved for a return because that customer dirtied and damaged the item and should have been stuck with it. I took one look at it and returned it the next day. In general I can't speak on the item itself from the product maker as I'm not sure if it was completely new but it seemed a bit flimsy and wobbly. I think the only good thing about this bike is the price point 🙁 The assembly of the bike was super easy. I was able to assemble it 80% alone. The rest of it was too heavy for me to hold and screw at the same time so my husband helped with that part (handle bars). There’s a few major disappointments here. First, the left pedal is impossible to screw on. It tells you to tighten it counter clockwise, which we did. But the grooves don’t work (idk how else to explain it). The left pedal doesn’t fasten completely to the leg of the bike. We thought maybe it’s not supposed to (?), so I got up and tested it. After pedaling for three seconds, the left pedal popped completely off. We tried for nearly an hour to get this pedal to screw on all the way but it never did. That night, I reached out to the email address provided in the instructions to ask them for help with the part. We got a reply from a bot, advising us to turn the pedal counterclockwise, which we already did for an hour. I replied to the bot saying we tried that with no luck. Despite their bot promising contact from an actual team member, we still haven’t heard back (it’s been two days). Then, I decided to call the support phone number provided. So note, if you got this bike secondhand and need help from customer service, it’ll be nearly impossible unless you have the registration number. My husband somehow managed to get the pedal halfway screwed on enough for us to use it without the left foot busting off mid stride, but it is sooooo wonky. The pedal jiggled around and is very unstable and not safe to ride at all. When I finally registered my product, I called the support number back. I indicated I wanted to return the product because I’m completely over it. After clicking thru the menu, once I told it I didn’t buy it directly from the manufacturer the bot told me “please go to the store you bought your item from to complete your return. Goodbye.” This infuriated me! I understand they didn’t sell me the bike so I can’t return it to them, but this is the least concerned company about their products or customer service. I will ever in my life purchase anything from this company again. The other issue I have is I feel like the bike isn’t made for short people. I’m 5 foot even and the seat is too tall for me, even when it’s on the lowest setting. When I stand next to bike, the seat hits mid torso when it should hit right about my hips/pelvis. My feet lift off the pedals when I hit the bottom of my stride. This isn’t something I can even ask them to fix so it’s a total bust at this point. Finally, the seat is UNBEARABLE! It’s narrow and hard as a rock. Just icing on the cake.Monica
