I'd been using Herbal Essences' 'set me up' styling gel for years and only purchased Garnier's styling gel because Herbal Essences is no longer making the particular gel I had been using, or for some reason, it simply is no longer available at a reasonable price. I have to say that Garnier's gel is far superior to Herbal Essences' gel. I have extremely short gray hair, and my morning routine consists of a one to two-minute blow dry, a quick brush through my hair, and an application of a small dollop of hair gel. After that, I never touch my hair for the rest of the day. Garnier's product is very light, nicely scented, and it stiffens my hair in place with a very natural look. There is absolutely no white flaking, and the amount required to hold my hair in place is about half what I used to use with the Herbal Essences gel. A dime-sized amount is completely adequate to ensure my hair doesn't move. I am far more satisfied with this gel than with the various ridiculously expensive gels my hair stylist uses on my hair when I go in for a haircut every six weeks. This acts like glue. I have long hair (just above waist) and I tried this because my husband uses it (short hair). I added a quarter size amount to damp hair, scrunched it a bit and let air dry. Nice wavy curls but midday I put my hair up into a messy bun (hair was barely damp). At the end of the day when I let my hair down it was all glued together. I've used this brand of styling gel for years. The newer products with higher numbers, don't seem to have better holding power than those with lower numbers. Perhaps they have changed the formula. #9 is rarely stocked in stores anymore. It works best on my fine hair which blows in the wind if I don't use it. You rub it into your hair after you shampoo while your hair is still wet. When your hair dries, the hair stays where you combed it until you run a comb or brush through it to take the stiffness out. It will last for about 2 days. It is water soluble and non-greasy. And it is also inexpensive. One bottle will last me more than a month. The squeezable bottle allows you to use every bit of it. Neither my hands nor my hair felt heavy, coated or sticky but it did have some “crunchy” pieces. I don’t like that crunchy gel feeling in my hair. This curl cream would be great for you if you’re not looking to have too much hold in your hair. It’s thick, but it doesn’t create a very strong cast for me. As you can see, my hair is already frizzing at the roots and it’s not completely dry yet. There’s no cast to scrunch out. The pump is also really hard to use and only dispenses like a dime size of product with each pump, which means I need to pump twice just to get enough for one section of hair. It is very hydrating, so I can’t knock it down too much, but it is probably my least favorite ouidad product, which is saying a lot because I LOVE ouidad. A bottle of this product lasts me about three-four months. I then plop for 10-30 minutes depending on if I’m air drying or diffusing.
I actually prefer to air dry and this product allows that, though it takes hours to dry. Can form a slight cast which I actually love. Once fully dry any crunch is easily scrunched out. I NEVER have shine in my hair due to the coarse texture but with this my curls are defined and shiny. Best part is that even in high humidity this holds perfectly.

I've used L'Oreal's "Lock-It" gel for years, and they've now discontinued it with no warning (or I would have stocked up for life!). This new product is not at all a substitute or replacement for "Lock-It" and did absolutely nothing to hold my short, spiky haircut in place, or even last long enough to style it and use another product to set it.
I love this gel. I am a nurse who lives in Fl and must tie my hair back all day. I have very thick, somewhat frizzy Cherokee Indian type hair. I HATE hairspray and if I don't use gel, my hair looks like a frizzy mess in a few hours. I'm so glad I found this L'Oreal gel. It holds my pony tail in place all day. Hello! I usually use a combination of Mielle products for my granddaughter but this time I decided on Moisture RX products only due to being the change of seasons and her hair being a little more dry than normal. I'm a natural with 4a/4b hair that mainly does wash n goes. I wanted a gel to layer for hold that had better ingredients than eco and wetline. I planned to use this as a topper. I've experienced that this product offers great hold, it does not control frizz very well due to the light/watery consistency. I used a botanical gel underneath and I think my hair would have had more frizz control if I used it on damp hair vs. soaking wet. I feel as if my hair dried quicker while using this product (I did sit under the hooded dryer) and the application was super easy. I felt that it had slip due to the consistency. The hold that this gives is correct. I would describe it as a firm-medium. Definitely not a strong hold. And I would agree with the reviewer that said the curls need to be sculpted beforehand. This is not going to give you much definition alone. Use this for additional hold and control. Overall, I think I would purchase again and I'm interested in trying their strong hold gel.Jasmine

After my leave-in I usually have a few tangles, but when I use this cream instead of my usual cream, it gave me the best slip and gets all the tangles out that my leave in did not attack, and I had no frizz. It cut my wash day in half. It used to take me an hour in a half to do my hair (tangles, ugh!), now it only takes 45 – 50 minutes. My curls were so hydrated and defined. I just love this product. Don't let the size of the bottle make you think you need a bigger bottle because a little is all you need…about the size of a quarter if you're doing sections (I do 4 sections) but use it according to your hair density. My hair is a thick density on the top (this was great for that) and my hair is 3C/4A. It works perfect my sista's. Try it. Also, I noticed it has shea butter in it…a major plus for moisture. I have type 3c/3b Hair so I am always needing a good hair gel. I do like the original gel in this curl talk line. It provides adequate hold. Once this gel was introduced, I knew I had to try it. It does have a sticky consistency. But I am sure that is what helps the gel give that extra hold. You will have a hard cast on your hair once it is dry, but u can always break the cast if u want to. This gel holds up to humidity well. My advice since it is so sticky to the touch and to avoid tangling your hair is to apply your typical styling products before hand, and add this gel at the very last. It will be easier to work through the hair and wont leave a tangles mess. This is not a good gel if you feel like refreshing or combing out your hair the next day, just cause the extra hold that it does give. So I just paid way more- thinking I was getting the old version and it’s really the new version that’s available for cheap everywhere! This gel is great for wash n gos, updos, and laying edges. My wash n gos come out super defined and I get big hair as my style gets old. Then I’ll use this gel to slick up my hair into a puff/bun. I’ve tried many edge controls and none of them last past 2 hours then my edges would start to curl up. But with this gel, I apply it and lay my edges, tie a satin scarf around them, set for 10 minutes, and I’m good to go for the whole day. It looked like it was going to come out amazing the second time I used this when wet but when it was diffused and dried and I scrunched out the cast it was defined, but not as good as I expected given all the effort I put into it. I did not settle for mediocre results. I also noticed that when I put my hair up the wispy hairs around my face were all sticking out. The loreal invishold normal strength gel gives me much more superior results and I haven't had any of these problems with that product. I use this gel everyday, I can’t live without it. I always buy a big container so that it lasts long which usually lasts me a minimum of 3 months for a great price too. What I like about it is the hold and the slickness it gives me. I like that it doesn’t dry out my hair like some other gels I’ve used abs still gives me the hold. I was looking for an alternative to the Umberto Giannini curl jelly, which I love but seem to get through too quickly. So glad I tried this and don’t see myself using anything else now. If you're looking for a hair gel that has a super-duper, concrete-like firm hold…this is it. It's also got a pleasant, non-offensive, masculine scent. It's easy to spread throughout the hair (unlike some of the other "ultra firm" hold hair gels) and you can easily thin out the gel with some water. However, it does take about an hour for this gel to dry at ambient room temperature, once applied. Just note that if you're looking to transfer the gel into another bottle (like a travel bottle), the scent disappears quickly and it starts to take on a weird consistency. Keep it in the original bottle or buy a smaller bottle size. And if you're keeping it on your bathroom counter, look into buying a pump. Be sure to shop around, pricing varies wildly between beauty shops and online retailers.B.L.
American crew is a really great product and works exactly as advertised. Its smooth and rich in texture and leaves your hair a little crunchy while firmly holding hair in place.. but it's just to expensive. I can get the same quality hair care If not less from a local grocery store for 75% less. I would use this product all the time, I just wish it was more affordable. I recommend this product for a high quality salon product that works! 👌jamie.r
It's like most high end hair styling products. It does what it says it should. I use a pea size blob, a bit of water to emulsify and run through my hair prior to going in with a hair-dryer. Great volume for a high pony tail or any up-do. My son uses it to slick back his hair. Pure gel, no water. There's the usual tacky residue on your hands, brushes and combs. Wash brushes and combs using a little shampoo and you're ready for the next day.melissa.h
