20 Best Sunblock For Acne Prone Skin (Feb 2023 Update)

I bought this while on vacation in FL and now I love it. I have been trying to find a sunscreen that works for me and this does. I have eczema and very sensitive skin but this doesn’t irritate me. My eyes are also very sensitive and I’m usually fine with this if I apply lightly around my eyes. The white cast is not great but if I rub it in for 30-60 seconds and follow with a blending brush I can get it to go away but I’m also very pale. When you sweat it can turn white (I had that happen in FL) so watch for that but for everyday use that’s not an issue for me. I despise when products pill on my face as many sunscreens do but that hasn’t been an issue for me. I also look very shiny with some other sunscreens and I don’t love that but this one finishes down much less shiny I wouldn’t say it’s matte though. So far it’s been one of my favorites. I have been using this as my daily face sunscreen for over a decade. I have tried other brands and no other brand compares. I am asian with a pale complexion and don’t wear makeup. I like this because: 1. Goes on quickly and blends quickly 2. Makes my complexion look better – more even toned; reduces visibility of age spots 3. Does not get greasy or make my face shine as the day goes on 4. Provides good all day protection – used at amusement parks, on the beach in Hawaii I would cry if they stopped making this. In the past few years, they seem to run out of it online and in the stores over the summer months so I have learned to hoard them – lol.Reviewer

I’ve tried most of the Sun Screens at Sephora, plus UltaMd ones and a few amazing Japanese ones. This is my favorite (along with the Mermaid UV Skin gel Japanese one but it’s full chemical no zinc). The texture is amazing. My skin is hydrated but not greasy. It leaves with moisturized, wet, fresh, glass skin shine- a glow which is NOT a weird greasy film or a weird glitter sparkle like other sunscreens. Great for dry skin, and it has never irritated my skin, I even use it on my eyes lids and my eyes have never felt a sting. My only qualm is that it’s only 30 spf. Biossance, please make a 50 spf!!!!! I use this guy as my daily, casual, indoor with small errands to run sunscreen. But I do use other 50 spf sunscreens when I’m outdoors or when it’s very sunny outside. I don’t feel comfortable wearing by this as the weather heats up now in Spring. I know however that this will be my winter go-to, when I need something moisturizing and comfortable without such a need for high spf (although again, 50 spf would be much preferred). Highly recommend. For casual daily use, especially for indoor days. I wouldn’t use only this on sunny days or outdoor days however, on those days I recommend folks wear 50 spf.DamaraAndBast

Let me start by saying DO NOT use this if you have dark skin. I’m the palest person I know and you can see this on my skin. I think that’s just the nature of zinc oxide sunscreens but I’m not totally sure. I used to really like this and I had bought it because of Hyram like a lot of other people. One of my biggest concerns with this sunscreen is the fact that it has Isostearic Acid which is a well known acne causer but I didn’t realize this until my dermatologist pointed it out and it was too late to return this. I have not noticed any breakouts yet that I can contribute to this sunscreen but just know it’s a possibility because of that ingredients, Cosdna actually ranks it as a 5 in the acne category. My other quarrel with this sunscreen is just the way it applies. This is not moisturizing even though it might seem like it when you first put it on. It dries QUICK and will not blend into the skin properly if you let it dry before it’s fully rubbed in and you’ll also have white streaks on your face. This also dries down sticky and will have a bunch of hairs and dust stick to your face. I’ve also found that throughout the day at work, I’ll have white flakes pilling and flaking off on my chin and it’s very noticeable. As for actual sun protection, I’ve never actually used this in a setting where I would get sunburnt, I use this for daily wear so I’m not sure how well it protects against the sun yet. I came to the reviews in desperation to hopefully find some answers as to why this highly rated product wrecked my skin for over half a year. I’ve never had skin issues except for the occasional dry patch during winter time, but five doctor visits and three steroids later to treat the intense itchiness, redness, flakiness, and wrinkles from dry skin (!), I’m reflecting on how this might have started. Around January 2022, I tried two new products for myself: Skinfix face wash and Biossance’s sheer mineral sunscreen. I had returned the Skinfix face wash thinking that was the culprit – the irony here is that the Sephora employee said it was a “bad batch” and that there had been some sort of recall. I continued using the Biossance sunscreen because I always use SPF outside and I liked that it was a mineral sunscreen, left absolutely no white cast or pilling, and made my skin glow. However, I’ve noticed that when I go out and use this sunscreen, I have super itchy rashes and hives appearing on my face and/or neck. The redness and irritation can last for days, or on and off for months as I have been dealing with this. I’ve been making sure I’m hydrated and moisturized, so I’ve had my normal skin for almost a week now – until today. I used the Biossance SPF again and within 20 minutes of being outside, I began to feel the tingle on my jawline. It was too late and now I’m sure it’s been this product this whole time. The dermatologist had dismissed the SPF initially as a culprit, but seeing these reviews..yikes. I have literally lost sleep by using this product because I have been clawing at my face and neck from the intense irritation. I am disappointed I stocked up on this product and do not feel right to give it away to someone in case they have the same reaction. Will need to toss in trash.Deb

I recently received a tube of Clear Skin SPF 30 complimentary from Proactive in exchange for my honest review, and I gotta say it is refreshing to find a sunblock that actively prevents acne breakouts, when most cause them I have a very fair complexion and burn extremely easily, so a high spf is a must for me. But, most of them are SO thick and greasy – not this one! Its a very silky, light cream, with hardly any fragrance at all. I would definitely buy this again!Dannielle

I have had bad acne for my teenage and young adult years, and I've found that sunscreen is a major part of healing your skin. Not only is it a major tool in healing acne scars, but since it's something you have to reapply every 2 hours to avoid hyperpigmentation, it's really important to have sunscreen that doesn't clog your pores. I have acne prone skin that breaks out easily if I use products with irritating ingredients. I love that this sunscreen was formulated exactly for that problem! Most sunscreens on the market (mainly chemical sunscreens) cause me to break out even after double cleansing. This product didn't do that and made me feel better about wearing spf knowing I wasn't going to break out. I love using this in the morning to help protect my skin from the sun and it doesn't feel greasy like a lot of sunscreens tend to. Neutrogena’s Invisible Daily Defense Sunscreen Lotion broad spectrum SPF 30 is such a pleasant product to use. First off this lotion provides superior broad spectrum UVA/ UVB protection with antioxidant to help fight environmental aggressors such as cold, ozone, and pollution. My first impression- I love the mild fruity scent! The formula is nice and light, rubs in 100% without any white residue sitting on my skin. It feels hydrating to skin, almost like applying lotion. And to me it’s important that this product is non- comedogenic. This sunscreen has worked very well for me, providing great everyday protection for sun and environment. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a lightly scented broad spectrum product.Gusgumball6

Literally horrible. I wish I would’ve read the reviews before purchasing. Usually do but I was out of town and picking up some essentials from Target and came across this and hardly read it… saw 60 and “NEW” so I figured I’d try it. I usually like Neutrogena sunscreens and they’re a pretty safe option. Not this one. All of the reviews say “not for face” and I wish I would’ve read that prior to using on my face! The skin on my face is horribly irritated- puffy eyes and very dry scaly skin under my eyes… dried out my skin very badly. Do not use this on your face. Probably safe on the rest of your body but I’m not even willing to try. This is day 3 of not using this sunscreen and my face is still irritated and puffy. Weird orange tint to sunscreen and not sure why that is necessary. Kind of pricey but I overlooked the price because I know Neutrogena is typically good.kbraz

Been using this for a few months now and can say that I love it. Like it says for me it does not cause breakouts which has been an issue in the past with many facial sunscreens. That's why I waited a while to review I wanted to put this through the ringer. So I'm about to give you an in depth review of my usage over the last few months. First off this does go nicely over many many many facial products and treatments as I have a whole repertoire of products that I've used or tested or tried out for the sake of it. And this applies nicely. I like to warm it up in my hands and then press onto my face and rub in like you would a moisturizer and make sure to get your ears as well. It does not leave a white cast on my face which is nice and doesn't feel oily or greasy because it's oil free. It can feel a bit gritty for some reason but I've gotten past that it's all good. I aloow it to sink in for about a good 10 minutes if I'm doing makeup and then I begin my routine. Have not had any problems doing makeup with this underneath as well. Works fantastic. The only reason I give this 4 stars is because if you have a face full of makeup and you'd like to reapply this is not it! Because as we know 2 hour application is best if you're out and about in the sun. Which usually I am all day. So I'd recommend a spray product or a powder product for an alternative. Now if you're going natural for the day even though we don't like makeup wipes maybe carry some miceller wipes and wipe your face down and reapply to prevent product build up which even though this is breakout and oil free if you're reapplying as directed. Imagine a 12 hour day you'd be reapplying 6 times that's a lot of product going onto your face to be cleansed off at the end of the day. This is why some form of wipes stay within my reach for easy cleaning to make reapplication a breeze and end of the day cleansing a bit easier. But I only recommend this if you have or know a brand that works for you. My friend who also works outside and is religious about sunscreen uses a facial cleaning water product and reusable cotton pads. But overall. This sunscreen is great haven't gotten burnt and I'm in the sun all day every day in hot Louisiana.jessica.h

Since high school, I have dealt with acne. It used to be a lot worse, but since I started using a prescription acne medication (Taro-Adapalene Benzoyl Peroxide) it has been manageable. My daily routine now, at age 24, prior to being sent these products from @dermalogicacanada #giftedbydermalogica included a facial exfoliation 2-3 times per week, a gentle astringent, a serum in the mornings, and eye cream and moisturizer to finish. I replaced the moisturizer in my regular routine with this one instead, and the exfoliator with a daily cleanser I was also sent. I will admit that although I did my full skincare routine every morning for the month or so after receiving this product, I did miss some nights when I was just too tired, so maybe if I had done every night as well, I would have noticed a difference. However, I did not. My skin has still been breaking out to the same degree as it was before. Perhaps these products would be beneficial for people who just break out only every so often rather than for someone like me, who has acne-prone skin. I also found that if I didn't squeeze out enough of this moisturizer onto my face, when I tried to rub it in and make the smaller amount work, it would actually start shedding as my hands brushed over it. I think it's because the moisturizer is fairly thick, as I've experienced sunscreen having this same reaction before. I had to wet my hands and add some water to my face to get rid of the shedding/make the rest soak into my face. So after that, I always ensured I had too much moisturizer squeezed out rather than not enough. Although my face FELT matte after using it, it sure didn't appear it. I haven't found a good mattifying moisturizer that really does work for my face, so I suppose I wasn't surprised that my face still looked shiny after using it, although I was a bit disappointed, since that is what this moisturizer claims to do. I don't think this moisturizer is bad by any means, since I do like the SPF protection, and it did help keep my face from getting too dry. However, I personally would not buy it again.Alexandra

I have very oily skin in my t-zone and so for me this doesn’t dry to a fully matte finish in that area, I’d say it’s more of a natural finish. But it’s not greasy at all and does help to reduce oil production during the day, so I chalk this up as a win for sunscreen. I’ve been using it for a few weeks and it hasn’t broken me out at all and may even be helping keep my skin clear (hard to tell because I use other actives). So far it’s my favourite moisturizer with SPF so I’ll keep using it. The only thing I don’t love is that is has fragrance, not sure why that’s necessary. However it does dissipate once it dries. Four stars because it hasn’t completely blown me away but it does it’s job well enough. Worth a try for someone with oily or combination skin if you aren’t sensitive to fragrance.RennieLynn

I recently switched to dermalogica for all my skin care needs. I selected products after having read up on them and the ingredient lists from different lines to suit my skin needs. Although I have oily and super congested skin, it has been a while since i've actually broken out and by that I mean like terrible cystic break outs (which I suffered from in high school). Among ALL the things I purchased, this one sadly disappointed me sorely. I'm so pleased with the rest of my products even though a lot of them weren't cut for my skin type but this one while being meant to "clear breakouts" did, in fact, the opposite! Just one application later, I developed a huge cyst on my face. And i know this product was to blame because i introduced all the new products one at a time after a gap of a couple weeks. Reading some of the reviews here has just reinforced my belief. I really wanted to like this product since ive been on the lookout for a suitable suncreen for my type and i really did give it multiple attempts but sadly it didnt make the cut. Also, applying it 'generously' like the instructions mention is a bad idea since i've noticed that does more harm than good. I had high hopes for this sunscreen as I am a frequent user of Cetaphil products due to my highly sensitive and eczema prone skin. I've been wearing it every day while out and about in the southern heat and humidity. I will say that it is effective in that it doesn't melt off when I sweat and I definitely haven't gotten any sunburns while wearing it. It doesn't sting when I apply and has no scent. However, there is a reason it says "Ideal for under makeup" on the bottle. The white cast it leaves on your skin is intense. It has covered well with makeup (I use bareminerals original foundation), but there is no way you could use this and just walk out the door with nothing else over it. I have olive skin so I'm sure that doesn't help the situation. If you're looking for an under makeup sunscreen, this could be great for you. I however, enjoy not wearing makeup quite often so once I use this up, I won't be buying again.MamaAllDay

This is a lightweight mineral sunscreen, advertised as ideal for application under makeup. Wait, as far as I am aware, sunscreen should be applied as the last step in your skincare routine. Hm? Anyway, it worked for my skin, however, it is very basic, and it has a minimal white cast. I had to blend it well in order to avoid it. Be careful applying it over your makeup, because it is not fully transparent (minimal white cast). It did not cause any irritation/dryness, and it is lightweight as advertised. However, I am not sure if this sunscreen is reef safe. As I said ,it is a very basic sunscreen, thinking about various innovative options on the market this sunscreen would not be my first choice.alexandra .z

The other reviews are correct— this Cetaphil Sheer Liquid Sunscreen pills and flakes horribly. I have been using it for almost a year now and I own two bottles. I have applied it every way possible with the same unpleasant results on my face. The key to application with this product is to (1) squeeze a nickel to quarter sized amount in the palm of your hand (2) rub your palms (hands) together and then (3) gently pat the sunscreen onto your face like you are making hand paint impressions in art class. (4) keep patting until you don’t see the white cast. (5) if you need more coverage, repeat these same steps. When I apply this way, I do not get flaking and pulling. Trust me on this one, I’ve applied it other ways and I was out in these streets looking crazy. My husband even called me out a few times, like “what are those white flakes on your face?” I’ve tried other brands like Australian Gold and Coppertone but this Cetaphil sunscreen is the only one that actually keeps me from burning (that means it is working to block sun rays) and I would purchase it again until I find something better.Lena

This is an awesome product from Colorscience due to the color match (Face Shield Flex in Fair) and I am thrilled to have found it! Not only does it have the UVA/UVB protection (plus added bonus of blue light and infrared radiation protection), but it contains hydrators and antioxidants that make the skin look and feel amazing. Additionally, it is a 100% mineral formula that is gluten free, paraben free, oil free, fragrance free and phthalate free (all a must for my sensitive skin!). Previously, I used the Sunforgettable Total Protection in Classic but it was too dark/noticeable for my ivory skin so I used the Concierge service and they recommended the Sunforgettable Total Protection Flex product in Fair and it is a perfect match! It looks like I am wearing nothing at all and blends seamlessly with my neck to avoid that orangey/yellowish line on the jaw area. At the end of a full day of wear, my skin looks even better than in the morning and is smooth and calm, not tight, and the redness spots are evened out. I have dry, sensitive skin so sunscreen is tricky – I need mineral because chemical is irritating, but mineral ingredients like zinc oxide can be quite drying. It’s rare that a mineral sunscreen is as hydrating as this one, and I love that about it. My face never feels tight and dry by the end of the day. However, even for my dry skin, the finish is a bit too dewy. On someone with more oily skin, this would be downright greasy. I’m also rather pale and my skin tone is cool, but this shade is truly pink! Not pinky-beige but actually a cool apricot color. I’m able to make it work but it does look a bit odd. This probably works very well for extremely fair, cool skin tones — think folks that freckle very easily. Overall, cosmetically elegant and really hydrating. Probably won’t repurchase because of the poor color match, but might try Flex if it’s similar.ChristaLea

I cannot live without this. I am a redhead and growing up there was nothing I hated more than sunscreen. Not only was it sticky, but is smelled very distinctly like sunscreen and I was always the kid made fun of for the white streaks or cast all over my skin. I hated sunscreen. When I started researching anti-aging and skin care regimens as an adult, and everything told me to wear sunscreen everyday, I cringed. But, the thought of wrinkles made me cringe more. I tried a lot of different facial SPFs. Then I found Supergoop!. I never want to stop using this product. It does not smell like anything (including sunscreen). It is not sticky when you put the right amount on. It is completely invisible and it is so hydrating without clogging pores (adult acne struggle is real!). This entire brand has a solution for every need that a fair redhead who despises traditional sunscreen could need. I am so in love with my daily SPF, I never miss it. I was really reluctant to try this sunscreen to be honest, and mainly for the name “super goop”. To me that sounds like the sunscreen was going to be gooey and thick, and if you throw in the word “glow screen” I thought for sure I would be walking around like a disco ball. The consistency of the product itself is quite opposite of what I thought. i only apply a small amount because a little goes a long way. The consistency is thin enough to smooth onto my face and settles into the perfect finish. I’m on day two of trying this sunscreen because I’m wearing it with different products. Yesterday I tried under my full coverage makeup and no greasy face so yeah! This morning I tried it with some bronzing drops to add some color and again the consistency is gorgeous. Overall, I feel like this is a great product, especially for us oily face combination skin peeps, I’m really impressed. I also heard it goes great when mixed with tinted moisturizers so I will try that next. If I wear this sunscreen alone without makeup I may dab some powder in my t-zone for extra reassurance but I will try that next.joy.w

This is probably one of my favorite sunscreens I've ever tried! I've tried buying other sunscreens, mineral ones that "don't leave a white cast" and cheaper chemical options, and I just purchased this sunscreen for the fourth time. I also come back to this because it's a reliable choice and have had no problems. I'm Southeast Asian with a skin tone that's on the lighter side of the medium/tan range, so if I wear a 100% mineral sunscreen, my skin is light enough that it blends in but also dark enough for someone to tell that my skin tone looks off (sort of like a white cool-toned tint to my warm skin?). In other words, I just look a bit paler than usual and it looks unnatural. With this sunscreen, I don't have to think about if you can see it on my skin or if it's not blended. I usually put on more sunscreen than suggested (just to be safe), and this glides on extremely easily over my skin ( and I also didn't notice any scent/an unpleasant chemical smell). It is a bit slippery (no oils are in this, just silicones), but your skin will feel soft after rubbing it in. Speaking of which, you don't need to put in a lot of effort to apply! I had recently gotten jaw surgery and had switched to a different sunscreen (chemical, but had a white color that disappeared after rubbing in). I had incisions on the left and right side of my bottom jaw, which sunscreen would be necessary to prevent scarring, and I found that I had trouble rubbing in my sunscreen (walking into harsh lighting, I'd see white along the sides of my jaw from not blending well enough). I switched to this instead and had no problem, nor did I have to worry about having any weird coloring. The finish is a soft matte, almost similar to the Fenty Pro Filter Instant Retouch Primer. Overall, if you want an SPF that you would enjoy applying and wouldn't have to worry about looking weird or greasy, this is perfect!GeeklyChic519

Anyway, I was happy with the quality of EltaMD, but looking for something more moisturizing for my combination/dry skin and I found it in UV Facial. This is an incredibly moisturizing and rich formula that does not leave a white cast on my pale skin. It will leave an ever so slight shine on your face, which translates to a glow on my skin, so if you are oily or prefer a completely matte look then this product probably isn't for you. I find it wears lovely under my foundation–something that can be a challenge with sunscreens. I love this formula so much but had to knock a star off because of the use of chemical filters. If this sunscreen was purely physical it would be a 5/5 holy grail formulation. I keep testing out all-mineral sunscreens and always come back to this one. If you are on the drier side and don't mind a chemical sunscreen, try this out!roshni.p

It’s a lightweight formula but you can definitely feel it on your face for the first 20 minutes after applying. It definitely protects your skin and it feels like a clean product, and not too heavy. It has a slight white-cast that goes away after a minute of rubbing in. My only downsides are that it leaves an oily/glossy finish (which I personally dislike) and that it pills with other products. The gloss isn’t terrible, you can certainly cover it up with some powder, but not too bad alone. It definitely can pill so I have opted out from using it with makeup or serums. I keep my morning skincare routine very minimal (just wash and moisturize) so that this sunscreen will not pill. I’ve had it pill before with the cerave vitamin c serum. Actually, this is the only sunscreen that has met all my criteria. It also makes my skin look and feel amazing. I have acne prone skin, I’m combo oily, I don’t like feeling anything on my face, and I enjoy makeup. I’m also on a retinoid. I have been using this sunscreen for over a year, and continue to come back to it when I go exploring to see if there’s something better. So far, there isn’t! The finish is natural. It’s not too shiny and not too matte. It literally just makes my skin look healthy and moisturized but not oily at all. There is absolutely no white cast. It does not pill under any makeup I’ve tried. It layers up beautifully. I’ve reapplied 3 times in a day and it manages to stay silky and not cakey on my skin. It does have a very mild, pleasant scent- which is great because I hate fragrances in products or ones that smell naturally of battery acid. It does not sting around my eyes AT ALL. It also has the added benefits of improving my skin texture and look of my complexion. Though it doesn’t add coverage, per say, I can go without my powder foundation when wearing this. It does not pill under any makeup I’ve tried. It layers up beautifully. I’ve reapplied 3 times in a day and it manages to stay silky and not cakey on my skin. It does have a very mild, pleasant scent- which is great because I hate fragrances in products or ones that smell naturally of battery acid. It does not sting around my eyes AT ALL. It also has the added benefits of improving my skin texture and look of my complexion. Though it doesn’t add coverage, per say, I can go without my powder foundation when wearing this. I bought this in the Spring & have used it every day for months. I’m in the sun a lot and as a sunscreen it works well. I use it once a day & it’s nearing the end now, lasting much longer than I expected. At this point in the products’ life, I can see a bit of oil separation, so I need to give it a small shake before using. Fortunately, I didn’t have any issues with packaging that other reviewers mentioned. I don’t wear concealer, foundation, or any kind of make-up on my skin. I bought this because I wanted something that could even out my skin tone without using make up. In the summer months I did NOT love it. Although the glow is nice, I found it was way too shiny & made my skin look oily & sweaty. That being said, I also bought the SUPERGOOP! (Re)setting powder SPF45 & found the combination of the two worked really well together. I would use this first thing in the morning, and reapply sunscreen with the resetting powder before heading out. The powder toned down the excessive shine while still maintaining the even look of my skin. Now that we’re coming to fall however, I actually really like this sunscreen by itself! I live in a place where the climate during fall & winter is much drier (the sun is also lower in the sky, which makes a difference for shine). As a result, my skin is a lot drier & the sunscreen actually works very well and looks really good. In summary, I would recommend this for the fall/winter, but not for the summer. I was really reluctant to try this sunscreen to be honest, and mainly for the name “super goop”. To me that sounds like the sunscreen was going to be gooey and thick, and if you throw in the word “glow screen” I thought for sure I would be walking around like a disco ball. The consistency of the product itself is quite opposite of what I thought. i only apply a small amount because a little goes a long way. The consistency is thin enough to smooth onto my face and settles into the perfect finish. I’m on day two of trying this sunscreen because I’m wearing it with different products. Yesterday I tried under my full coverage makeup and no greasy face so yeah! This morning I tried it with some bronzing drops to add some color and again the consistency is gorgeous. Overall, I feel like this is a great product, especially for us oily face combination skin peeps, I’m really impressed. I also heard it goes great when mixed with tinted moisturizers so I will try that next. If I wear this sunscreen alone without makeup I may dab some powder in my t-zone for extra reassurance but I will try that next.joy.w

I loved This sunscreen, let’s start there. we went on vacation to Egypt and this was going to be my ultimate test as sweat and direct intense sun would be the test of all tests. I placed it over my vit c serum and moisturizer and applied as directed before leaving our hotels. We took it with us to reapply regularly. For the first couple days the formula kept together but then it separated into a clear liquid and what I am supposing is the golden part. I shook vigorously and it homologated together a bit. But back at the hotel under ac it came back together. This separating was a bummer because no amount of shaking (with normal strength not a machine) would not bring it back together under the heat which when we really needed it. This being said, it still did its job! Protected and nourished my skin while under that intense climate. I would like really like a water proof version for water sports as this washed away when at the beach and snorkeling but kept when sweating. As for people commenting about piling, the chemicals are reacting… what ever is being used underneath or on top is causing the split of the formula. I see a lot of negative reviews of this product, but I honestly I think it’s pretty amazing. I was taking a chance buying this, because my skin hasn’t agreed with other glow recipe products in the past (guessing because of the amount of fragrance in their other products), however I couldn’t resist trying a new sunscreen! I have been using it in the morning without any moisturizer at the moment, and haven’t seen any issue with dry skin. For reference I am combo (oily t zone, dry cheeks), can be acne prone, and have seen sensitivity with fragrant products or products that contain essential oils. This product does have a light watermelon scent, but it dissipates within 20 min or so. It’s working well with my Lys foundation currently, but idk what it would be like with a powder or matte foundation.. it might pill as other reviews have suggested. I have been using this product for a few weeks now and have not noticed any sensitivity or increase in acne. And I have tried other chemical sunscreens that have caused my acne to flare up, so this is certainly one of a kind! Throughout my skincare journey, I've placed a strong emphasis on purchasing clean, high-quality products, even if it costs a bit more than, say, something I'd buy at the grocery store or drug store. However, SPF has been, for reasons I can't really explain, one of those skincare products that I just haven't held to that same standard. I've always been more content to just buy a "cheaper" natural brand. Up until this product, I'd been using the Alba Botanica SPF 50 sport sunscreen. It was fine and did what it needed to. But since discovering Glow Recipe, I decided to make the splurge and try out their SPF. Let me just say, I'm SO glad that I did. One of the most notable differences between this SPF and other brands that I've used is the texture. Whereas my last sunscreen always felt so thick and like I had to really work at blending it in, the watermelon glow niacinamide sunscreen just effortless glides on. It's so silky smooth. I also love that it has just a hint of natural watermelon fragrance. Plus, it feels so nourishing, and it really does wonders to help with the texture of my skin and alleviate any redness I may have. I know it's a bit pricier than your average sunscreen, but this is a fabulous product, and if you're willing to splurge, I couldn't recommend this more.Bryce

Chemical sunscreen that is ensconced in great ingredients. WHY? Ingredients that accumulate in fish and breast milk. No one should be using any chemical sunscreen. Children are advised not to use at least one of the active ingredients because studies have shown that it aggravates rosacea and eczema. Japan limits not just one but two of the ingredients in this product. Bottom line is any sunscreen that is “light” and adsorbs easily, is chemical based – it soaks into your skin. If it accumulates in fish that swim below water treatment plants, what makes you think it doesn’t accumulate in you when you directly slather it on your skin? The government approvals of these ingredients is based on the thought that more people will die of skin cancer then will die of chemical toxicity, but how do we know that all the cancers we have aren’t a result of all the chemicals we are exposed to daily? And all of the reactive copy in the ad suggested GR knows this is an issue and is trying to head off complaints and questions in advance. I have no doubt that this is a wonderful sunscreen. The other ingredients are great. But if you care about your health you’ll stop using chemical sunscreens. You’ll just suck it up and use the mineral only ones that take about 20 minutes for your skin to warm them to the point of making the white cast disappear.Less C. P.

I bought this while on vacation in FL and now I love it. I have been trying to find a sunscreen that works for me and this does. I have eczema and very sensitive skin but this doesn’t irritate me. My eyes are also very sensitive and I’m usually fine with this if I apply lightly around my eyes. The white cast is not great but if I rub it in for 30-60 seconds and follow with a blending brush I can get it to go away but I’m also very pale. When you sweat it can turn white (I had that happen in FL) so watch for that but for everyday use that’s not an issue for me. I despise when products pill on my face as many sunscreens do but that hasn’t been an issue for me. I also look very shiny with some other sunscreens and I don’t love that but this one finishes down much less shiny I wouldn’t say it’s matte though. So far it’s been one of my favorites. I have been using this as my daily face sunscreen for over a decade. I have tried other brands and no other brand compares. I am asian with a pale complexion and don’t wear makeup. I like this because: 1. Goes on quickly and blends quickly 2. Makes my complexion look better – more even toned; reduces visibility of age spots 3. Does not get greasy or make my face shine as the day goes on 4. Provides good all day protection – used at amusement parks, on the beach in Hawaii I would cry if they stopped making this. So this was my first time purchasing this specific kind of sunscreen from Bare Republic. I normally use the regular one that isn’t clear. Not a fan of the feel of the sunscreen. It has like little beads or something in it and feels weird as your putting it on. My kids didn’t like it. It does dry clear so that is accurate. It doesn’t smell like mango to me but that isn’t a big deal. It’s the ingredients that I’m not a big fan of. It’s not as clean as I thought it was. I much prefer their regular sunscreen. I wouldn’t buy again or recommend it if you care about what’s in your sunscreen. Disclosure: I received a sample of this product from Poshly for free in exchange for a fair and honest review. I ended up using this product twice this weekend and loved it. The first thing I noticed was the scent. It has a nice scent to it and I really enjoyed that it is not an overpowering scent and that it doesn't smell like coconut since most other sunscreens do. It came out in a light mist, so I didn't have to worry about it going on too thickly and not being able to absorb. After I sprayed it on, I didn't really even notice it was there because it wasn't greasy. While wearing this product I was working in my garden and appreciated that the dirt, mud, etc. wasn't clinging to the sunscreen as I worked. After I was done outside I took a shower and had no issue with the water repelling off my skin due to the remaining sunscreen. It also didn't leave any residue on my clothing. Finally, while wearing this product in direct sunlight for two hours, I have no signs of a sunburn or redness on my skin. I recommend this product and will continue using it in the future.Dream W.

I am going to Hawaii so I went to Target to get reef safe/friendly sunscreen. I looked at all the different options and I bought 4 different kinds. This Bare sunscreen leaves no white residue/white cast, it’s Hawaii reef compliant, water resistant AND it’s 100 spf! I definitely like this one the best. I also tried the Target brand Up&Up mineral 50spf, Neutrogena Sheer Mineral 50spf, and Coppertone Pure&Simple Kids mineral 50spf. Those all had white residue probably due to the zinc/minerals. Target only had the Bare Face but not the Body, I would love to try the Bare Body Clearscreen in the future as well!April G.

The tint blends in with my skin and I have a medium skin tone. The SPF makes me feel protected and like it stays on my skin all day even with wearing a mask. The weight of the sunscreen is very light along with the bottle is very tiny. It lasts me about 3 months and I put it on every single day. The only problem is that the cap breaks when getting close to the 3 month mark. I wish it was better quality because it is plastic. I don’t want my expensive sunscreen to get all over my make up bag. I love this product and it is the perfect addition to my skincare routine. I was looking for something low maintenance to protect my skin from sun damage while also giving my face enough color to avoid having to wear foundation (foundation is too harsh for my skin and causes breakouts). I received this product for free, but am glad to have received it as I was curious to try a new sunscreen. I tested this product over the span of 2 weeks, and it did not break me out. I have dry-acne prone skin, which has made it a bit challenging to find products (especially sunscreen) that hydrates, but doesn't break me out. This product applies easily, however it does leave a white cast right away. It takes quite a bit of blending, and I would say 10 minutes or so after application for the white cast to disappear. However, I do have fair skin so the cast may be more visible on other complexions. The sunscreen has a slightly sweet almost vanilla smell while applying. I don't really smell it too much on my face afterward, but I don't think it would be good for those who are sensitive to skincare products with scents. After application, the sunscreen leaves a dewy and hydrated finish/touch. Although it is nice for my dry skin, I do wish it dried down a bit more as I don't love the sensation of my hands feeling dewy after touching my skin, which is why I rated this product a 4 instead of a 5. For those who have oilier skin you may want to set this product with a powder. Overall, I think once I'm finished this bottle I will purchase this product for a daily sunscreen when I'm in the house as the SPF is 30.meagan

It doesn't have that traditional yucky sunscreen smell or feel either. It really does have that weightless mineral feel to it. That's a huge bonus for me! I was selected to try the Hawaiin Tropic Weightless Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 for free in exchange for my honest opinion and it couldn't have come at a better time! Now that Spring is finally here, I have been spending much more time outside in the yard, going for walks, at the playground with my daughter and etc. This sunscreen is so easy to use and is less greasy and more like a lotion than the sunscreens that I have used in the past. Even though it is a milky lotion sunscreen, it doesn't leave that dreaded white film on my skin that I am used to as well with other sunscreens. The sunscreen absorbs easily into the skin and is easily spreadable making application easy and effortless. Although I wish it offered a little more than SPF 30 for the summer months when the sun is more prominent, the SPF 30 rating is good for Spring days. I love that the sunscreen is free from chemicals and parabens and is also cruelty free! My favorite part about this sunscreen is that it is both sweat and water resistant for approximately 80 mins! Reapplication is needed only after sweating/being in water after 80 mins or 2 hours if just spending the day outside. It smells tropically which is also a nice change from other sunscreens I have used in the past which makes me actually want to reapply it! I applied the sunscreen 15-20 mins before heading outside and found coverage to be good until I was ready to come back in. I will definitely continue to purchase and use this sunscreen and would recommend it to anyone who hates the smell and white film left over by many other brands. I received the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Moisturizing Face Serum Sunscreen complimentary from Home Tester Club in exchange for my honest opinion. The first thing I noticed was the simple yet quality packaging. The dispenser has no top but it doesn't need one. Just twist to open and twist to close. Great for travel, yes? I bought this product hoping to find a US alternative to a JP product, but this did not make the cut. First, I avoid dimethicone in all skincare as I have oily skin and it seems to make it worse. My own mistake, I didn't realize this contains dimethicone. Second, and the biggest problem, I had a severe reaction to this product. A few hours after applying (tried it two separate times) my eyes became watering and swollen. This lasted for nearly 12 hours, even after washing my face. My partner also had the same problem. Neither of us were really outside sweating or swimming. I would say I have fairly sensitive, fair-ish skin, but I also am used to a sunscreen that contains alcohol and have little no allergies otherwise.Miko

I recieved a 1.7 FL OZ sample of Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Oil-Free Moisturizing Face Serum With Vitamin E Sunscreen SPF 60+ I like the fragrance-free, weightless hydration. I like how it feels on my skin. I am enjoying using it when I don't wear makeup and it acts as a makeup primer when I do. I will purchase and add to my skin care routine for this Winter. I love this tinted sunscreen! The tint is subtle enough to not feel orangey/dark, but gives a nice sun-kissed color that feels just right. This goes on really easy and blends in well! I have melasma that usually fades to mild in the winter (I live in a MN, so not much time spent in the sun during these months) and then, despite religious sunscreen and hat use, gets progressively worse through the summer to the point that even with make up on, I have had people comment on it thinking my face is dirty, etc. I bought this sunscreen about 3 weeks ago because I was reading an article about the best sunscreens for this problem. I am blown away – all progression has stopped and I think it is actually looking better than it did 3 weeks ago. This is even after a day like today where it was 98F and I was outside all day – with my previous mineral based sunscreen, it wouldn't matter what I did, I would come home looking like I rubbed dirt all over my upper lip and cheeks. I am in my mid-seventies and I have light toned, dry skin with mild rosacea. Consequently, I only use physical sunscreens on my face, neck, and chest. My dermatologist originally gave me samples of the untinted Actinica and the tinted Ageless. Because my skin is quite light and I don't rely on sunscreen or makeup for skin care, I was immediately drawn to the Actinica which has since then become my HG sunscreen. It apples smoothly, evenly and, when it sets, it provides a soft-focus matte finish that acts as a wonderful primer for foundation. Actinica does not leave a white cast like the old versions of physical sunscreens or like the inferior products that are in the drugstores. When first applied, there is a very slight white cast which completely disappears as the product sets. No Casper the Ghost glow with this product! Be sure to shake it up before using so the ingredients are evenly distributed. And, drawing the lines on the fingers is a clever way to get the right amount if you're just doing your face. Personally, I do four finger lines because of the larger area I need to cover. All considered, this is a superior formulation that is well worth the hype and the cost. I've been using the full size of Actinica for the past month and can't say enough good things about it.Eileen

Sheer Physical UV Defense Sunscreen. This is a 100% mineral sunscreen containing Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, and enhanced with artemia salina (a plankton extract to help boost skin’s natural defenses to UV-and heat-induced stress) It’s a very thin and milky formula and sinks in nicely. It doesn’t feel heavy on the skin like a lot of other mineral sunscreens that I’ve tried. The finish is matte and smooth. My face has zero irritation with this one and feels very protected. I don’t experience any eye stinging. It does have a very minimal whitecast on my skin tone. I usually can’t handle a whitecast but with this one I can look past it because it’s more breathable than other mineral sunscreens I’ve tried. Plus it’s very minimal. They also have a tinted version (Physical Fusion UV Defense) that looks nice too. Overall I love it !hope.d

I really enjoy this sunscreen. It’s a high-end brand, so I knew it would be a small bottle even before I looked at the product page for product size (1 oz for $35 USD). My dermatologist recommends 5%+ zinc oxide for sunscreens, so while I’ve been searching for sunscreen that’s my #1 requirement. This sunscreen has 6% titanium dioxide and 5% zinc oxide and SPF 50 so I tried it out when I picked up another product. I also have pretty sensitive skin, so it has to be able to work with it. I’ve been using it a week and so far I like it. I use the 3 finger rule for my face and neck, as I’m trying to focus on better skincare. If I do this and am not careful, I will get a white cast on my face and it’s noticeable – which is why the four stars. So I start with 1.5 fingers on my face and let that settle, add another half, and then the rest on my neck. It works well. It also works with my sensitive skin so far – no redness, burning, or tingling which is a good sign.alyxis.j

With its natural finish, I can use it all over as a sheer foundation. It's so lightweight and dewy that I can wear it on the hottest summer days (I live in Arizona, where the summers are brutal) without it caking on my face. Since Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 is not a chemical sunscreen, I don't have to worry about it breaking down on my skin and causing irritation. This sunscreen is light enough for daily use, odorless, and water-resistant for up to 40 minutes, which makes it an excellent option for the beach or hiking. Since I started quarantining due to the pandemic, I rarely wear foundation, but this tinted sunscreen keeps my skin looking refreshed and glowing. Usually, I pair it with clear brow gel and call it a day, but you can easily apply a layer of foundation on top of it. It is recommended that you wait 15 minutes before applying makeup over sunscreen. I can wear sunscreen on a sweaty run without worrying about any greasy residue running into my eyes. I like that it feels lightweight and has a beige undertone similar to my olive skin tone. However, I'm a little disappointed it only comes in one shade since not everyone will be able to experience how good of a sunscreen it is. The tint works well for my olive complexion and will probably be a good match for fair and medium skin tones, but it might look washed out for those with darker complexions. Verdict: The 1.7-ounce bottle costs $34, which is a bit more than your typical drugstore sunscreen, but if it helps protect your skin as it does for me, it's worth the splurge.menith.s
