20 Best Sunscreen For Indian Skin (Feb 2023 Update)

I have malasma on my face, so I have to wear sunblock everyday/all day to prevent the dark spots from getting worse. To make matters worse, the most effective sunblock for malasma is zinc based or physical sunblock which leave a chalky white residue when applied. Furthermore I am acne prone. I was really struggling to find a sunblock I felt comfortable wearing to work and in public. When I discovered Amavara I almost cried. The product looks great on my skin – even providing a good amount of concealer for my skin spots. I have been using for months, applying multiple times a day and have not had a breakout. It is natural, unscented, reef and human safe. It has changed my life and made it easier to live with malasma. Be aware – as with any zinc based sunblock, if you are sweating a lot the sweat will bead up on your face. It doesn't impact the effectiveness. Just dab away with a tissue or something. Don’t sleep on this sunscreen. Been using this for almost 2 years and I hope they never stop selling it. Not the typical sunscreen. This has a thick consistency, takes a little rubbing in but once it’s on it sticks to your face and makes your pores look flawless. I have oily, acne prone skin, and my sister has dry, eczema prone skin and we both use this sunscreen ONLY. Have not worn foundation since using this. I am 24 year olds and I have dealt with mild, moderate, and severe acne since I was 11 years old! (Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s awful) So as you could imagine, I have tried everything under the sun. My biggest issue has always been sunscreens!! Sunscreens are one of my biggest sensitivities, and have caused SEVERE acne (for months 🙁 ) when they irritate me. I wear this sunscreen everyday. I got a sample of this and I went and purchased the full size. It replaced my previous HG sunscreen! I can't wear chemical sunscreens, because they irritate the area around my eyes (I can where chemical sunscreen on my body though). Finding physical sunscreens that don't make me look gray and wear well under makeup is a challenge. First off this is silicone-based. So if you don't like silicones, don't get it. What I like about this sunscreen, is unlike some other silicone-based sunscreens, this doesn't slide around my face. It stays put. I don't feel it on my skin. The tint is good for light-medium to dark skin tones. (I have a light-medium skin tone). If you have a fair skin tone, I would check out the other version for lighter skin tones. When it comes out of the bottle, it looks like it won't be a good product. However, it applies smoothly and the tint fades into your skin tone after a few seconds. I did a half face test. No gray cast! This is not a moisturizer; so, you will have to use a separate moisturizer underneath. I don't mind this because I save $ because I don't have to buy a separate makeup primer for the day. This primes (blurs pores) and mattifies my skin. I love it for my oily skin. It isn't drying, but I would check out another review from someone who has dry skin since it has a matte finish. What I really love about this product is that this is the exact same formula as TiZO3 sunscreen. Except TiZO3 sunscreen is way more expensive. I tested out both on my face (half and half) for a week, and I couldn't tell the difference. I wish it came in an option where you can get double the size. I love this! For many years I used the tinted version and it worked really well for me as I was a loyal self tanner…but now that I’m trying to embrace my natural very fair skin tone the tinted version of this was just a hair too dark. The formula of this is exactly like my beloved tinted version, just without the color which is perfect and exactly what I was looking for. This sits beautifully underneath makeup and wears so well for me all day. I’m extremely cautious of exposing my skin to the sun (I’m trying to be very proactive with anti-aging!) so a good spf is a must and this is one of the best and most cosmetically elegant that I’ve found! I love this brand for sunscreens and also their body lotion. Their face fluid spf is fantastic and this is just as good but a bit more of a cream. It is slightly shiny on the face but after it soaks in and I apply my make up over the top I’m just left with a nicely moisturised face with a lovely glow. Even better that’s is so reasonably priced. I wouldn’t but any other brand of sunscreen and always buy it here as free delivery and excellent customer service.Elizabeth W

I'm actually reviewing the Altruist Dermatologist Face Fluid SPF 50 5* but unfortunately it wasn't an option on it's own that I could pick to review. I have never used a facial specific sunscreen, or any sunscreen on s daily basis. The facial fluid is very lightweight and while I probably don't put enough on I would struggle to rub anymore onto my skin! I normally put 1-2 fingers worth of fluid on and that more than covers my whole face. It does have a white cast initially but once it's all rubbed in properly, wow it leaves you looking glowy af, in a good way! It feels very hydrating and I would be happy to continue using the product and would consider trying other things from the range, although it is a bit more expensive than I would usually pay for sun products.jodie .t

I was pleasantly surprised by the formula, it feels very similar to a normal moisturiser and not like the usually heavy, sticky sunscreens. I used it on my face few times and it works well under makeup. I cannot comment on the white cast as i have fair skin, but it absorbed well into the skin. It protected my arms from my usual sun allergy, but the temperature was under 30celsius, the real test will be the temperature goes over 30. Initially purchased this to be used on my neck, chest, and hands. Then I was out and about and forgot to put my new tube of Canmake Mermaid Skin UV Gel in my purse, so I used this on my face. Well, let me tell you this is a great facial sunscreen too! If I'm reading the ingredients correctly this has no zinc/titanium "physical" filters but gives UV protection through a combination of octinoxate, tinsorbs M & S, and uvinal A. I would describe this as: –cosmetically elegant: Easy application, no cast, & a slightly dewy finish on my bare face. I don't wear makeup frequently but did not encounter pilling or weirdness when using this as a base beneath a lightweight tinted illuminating lotion –hydrating: I have dry, dehydration-prone skin and this didn't suck the moisture out of me despite having alcohol pretty high on its ingredients list –economical: you get 80g for $12-$15. I love Canmake, but for the pricepoint I only get half that amount. Definitely will re-purchase this versatile and high quality sunscreen: it's a winner!Asta Bills

I seriously love this sunscreen. It's the one that got me back into using sun protection daily. I have sensitive skin so in the past it was hard to find a sunscreen that didn't irritate my skin and didn't cause an ugly whitecast but this one checks all the boxes. It looks creamy but goes on sheer, it doesn't irritate my skin, I can still easily use makeup on top and it's hydrating. This sunscreen blends into the skin immediately and it gives a dewy affect. I love it very much but as a person of color, it can leave a little bit of white cast on the skin if I put too much on the skin immediately. i find that it blends into the skin well if I layer it little bit little. Overall, it is a great sunscreen and it is affordable well. The scent is not too strong. This is very lightweight that even oily skin type can use it. Because it is small, you will run out less than a month, which is expected if you reapply your sunscreen throughout the day. Definitely recommend and would buy it again in the warmer season.Kim

Been looking for a good sunscreen for a while now and decided to give this one a try since it has so many good reviews. I was very sceptical because the price is so low. The only good thing about this sunscreen is that it doesn't leave a white cast. My skin is very resistant, it's not sensitive at all, but after using this sunscreen for two weeks i've noticed that it makes my skin very red and irritated, not just over time but it starts stinging as soon as I apply it. In addition, it is VERY sensitive to humidity, this sunscreen is not waterproof at all. If you sweat or raindrops hit your face, it will kind of melt off your face in white streaks, so not really safe to apply for when you go out. I don't recommend this at all, if you want good sunscreens there are other ones on Yesstyle that are a lot better (Missha sunscreens, to name a few)Kate

Biore UV Watery Essence SPF50 PA++++ is a chemical sunscreen that has a light-weight feeling yet it effectively protects from strong UV rays. This Japanese sunscreen features UV blocking ingredients such as water capsules which when applied to the skin create a pleasant, watery veil. And with the micro-defense formula it ensures full and even coverage down to micro level crevices. I like how this isn’t think like most facial sunscreens. It’s lightweight with a consistency of a gel-like serum. It does have some slip though. It absorbs fast and I had no issue of a white cast or stickiness being left behind. Despite this being waterproof it actually washes off quite well. It’s a higher SPF than most so it’s slightly more effective at blocking damaging free radicals and preventing premature aging. My biggest con is that alcohol is the second ingredient. And you can definitely smell it upon opening. I would recommend this to those who hate the heavy feeling of sunscreen on their face and those who have oily/combination skin. I tried this sunscreen on my search for a new favorite as this one is well liked. I really like that it is an essence/serum like texture as opposed to be in creamy/thicker/extra moisturizing. My face always breaks out with anything that is extra moisturizing, creamy or thick. Alcohol is high on the list of ingredients, and I have found that as long as I carefully apply the product surprisingly it does not make my eyes sting, water or burn. Whereas with many other sunscreens this tends to happen. I have gone to our local pool on several instances while wearing this sunscreen and anytime my face gets wet the product does run into my eyes causing them to water and burn. I have always waited at least 30 minutes or more before swimming. This seems like it would be a really great sunscreen for some.Krista

I received this sunscreen in my Vana sunscreen box and was very pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a thicker cream but this formula is more of an emulsion and was instantly cooling and soothing on the skin. It did a good job at protecting my skin from the sun, and is easy to reapply as the formula is so light. It didn't sting my eyes either. Highly recommend.Paige

I originally tried this out after having a reaction to the cult favorite UV Clear–I think my skin disagrees with the niacinimide in that formulation. Anyway, I was happy with the quality of EltaMD, but looking for something more moisturizing for my combination/dry skin and I found it in UV Facial. This is an incredibly moisturizing and rich formula that does not leave a white cast on my pale skin. It will leave an ever so slight shine on your face, which translates to a glow on my skin, so if you are oily or prefer a completely matte look then this product probably isn't for you. I find it wears lovely under my foundation–something that can be a challenge with sunscreens. I love this formula so much but had to knock a star off because of the use of chemical filters. If this sunscreen was purely physical it would be a 5/5 holy grail formulation. I keep testing out all-mineral sunscreens and always come back to this one. I use this as my daily sunscreen! Honestly I haven’t had a lot of luck with many sunscreens because of white-cast, oiliness, etc, but this one has been the best formula of the ones I’ve tried in the past. It’s a lightweight formula but you can definitely feel it on your face for the first 20 minutes after applying. It definitely protects your skin and it feels like a clean product, and not too heavy. It has a slight white-cast that goes away after a minute of rubbing in. My only downsides are that it leaves an oily/glossy finish (which I personally dislike) and that it pills with other products. The gloss isn’t terrible, you can certainly cover it up with some powder, but not too bad alone. It definitely can pill so I have opted out from using it with makeup or serums. I keep my morning skincare routine very minimal (just wash and moisturize) so that this sunscreen will not pill. I’ve had it pill before with the cerave vitamin c serum. I have literally tried over 20 sunscreens. Finding one that checks all the boxes ingredient wise and that had a nice finish is nearly impossible. Actually, this is the only sunscreen that has met all my criteria. It also makes my skin look and feel amazing. I have acne prone skin, I’m combo oily, I don’t like feeling anything on my face, and I enjoy makeup. I’m also on a retinoid. I have been using this sunscreen for over a year, and continue to come back to it when I go exploring to see if there’s something better. So far, there isn’t! The finish is natural. It’s not too shiny and not too matte. It literally just makes my skin look healthy and moisturized but not oily at all. There is absolutely no white cast. It does not pill under any makeup I’ve tried. It layers up beautifully. I’ve reapplied 3 times in a day and it manages to stay silky and not cakey on my skin. It does have a very mild, pleasant scent- which is great because I hate fragrances in products or ones that smell naturally of battery acid. It does not sting around my eyes AT ALL. It also has the added benefits of improving my skin texture and look of my complexion. Though it doesn’t add coverage, per say, I can go without my powder foundation when wearing this. PROS: spf for 4-6 hours If used on face, it feels less heavy/“masky-feeling” after 4 hours, but not before that. Smells OK (floral coconut but nothing like the classic old Hawaiian tropic). Price is affordable. CONS: Not weightless as listed. Leaves a shiny, noticeably weighted coat/mask on face (My skin is on the dry side). Feels oily/greasy for a few hours. I'm so happy I got this. I've been looking for a good face sunscreen that isn't greasy and doesn't clog pores or leave any white residue. I bought a $30 one a few weeks ago and it's supposed to be so great and I HATED IT. I normally use a K beauty brand but it's just getting too expensive for how much I use it and how little comes. So I gave this one a try and it blew my mind. It's so silky and soft feeling on the skin. Soaks in beautifully. You can use the right amount without it pilling up with other products or under makeup. Effective sun protection and very moisturizing, but THICK texture. I have oily/combination skin and this made me look too shiny and oily. If applies on clean skin with other products, it does eventually absorb and dry down a bit, but can feel tingly. If applied over other products, seems to sit on the skin more and be more oily. I am using the rest of the bottle on my body because I do enjoy the thicker texture for my dry legs. I cannot live without this. I am a redhead and growing up there was nothing I hated more than sunscreen. Not only was it sticky, but is smelled very distinctly like sunscreen and I was always the kid made fun of for the white streaks or cast all over my skin. I hated sunscreen. It is not sticky when you put the right amount on. It is completely invisible and it is so hydrating without clogging pores (adult acne struggle is real!). I was really reluctant to try this sunscreen to be honest, and mainly for the name “super goop”. To me that sounds like the sunscreen was going to be gooey and thick, and if you throw in the word “glow screen” I thought for sure I would be walking around like a disco ball. The consistency of the product itself is quite opposite of what I thought. i only apply a small amount because a little goes a long way. The consistency is thin enough to smooth onto my face and settles into the perfect finish. I’m on day two of trying this sunscreen because I’m wearing it with different products. Yesterday I tried under my full coverage makeup and no greasy face so yeah! This morning I tried it with some bronzing drops to add some color and again the consistency is gorgeous. Overall, I feel like this is a great product, especially for us oily face combination skin peeps, I’m really impressed. I also heard it goes great when mixed with tinted moisturizers so I will try that next. If I wear this sunscreen alone without makeup I may dab some powder in my t-zone for extra reassurance but I will try that next.joy.w

This is probably one of my favorite sunscreens I've ever tried! I've tried buying other sunscreens, mineral ones that "don't leave a white cast" and cheaper chemical options, and I just purchased this sunscreen for the fourth time. I also come back to this because it's a reliable choice and have had no problems. I'm Southeast Asian with a skin tone that's on the lighter side of the medium/tan range, so if I wear a 100% mineral sunscreen, my skin is light enough that it blends in but also dark enough for someone to tell that my skin tone looks off (sort of like a white cool-toned tint to my warm skin?). In other words, I just look a bit paler than usual and it looks unnatural. With this sunscreen, I don't have to think about if you can see it on my skin or if it's not blended. I usually put on more sunscreen than suggested (just to be safe), and this glides on extremely easily over my skin ( and I also didn't notice any scent/an unpleasant chemical smell). It is a bit slippery (no oils are in this, just silicones), but your skin will feel soft after rubbing it in. Speaking of which, you don't need to put in a lot of effort to apply! I had recently gotten jaw surgery and had switched to a different sunscreen (chemical, but had a white color that disappeared after rubbing in). I had incisions on the left and right side of my bottom jaw, which sunscreen would be necessary to prevent scarring, and I found that I had trouble rubbing in my sunscreen (walking into harsh lighting, I'd see white along the sides of my jaw from not blending well enough). I switched to this instead and had no problem, nor did I have to worry about having any weird coloring. The finish is a soft matte, almost similar to the Fenty Pro Filter Instant Retouch Primer. No cast if rubbed in well. Does leave a little if just applied without rubbing in. Feels like ur not wearing it even when putting on recommend amount. Does wear well with most foundations but can cause a little residue depending. I use little amount of covergirl milk. It is pretty scentless and can sting the eyes a little if sweating but over all its my fav for face so far. It's not too expensive and goes a long way. I haven't burned with this at all and I believe it's one of the better choices. I've not had any reaction and I have combination skin. I'd definitely repurchasemary.d

Can be worn under makeup. No white cast, no oily sheen or pilling under makeup. I used this every day for 10 years. However, there are much better sunscreens with better formulations nowadays. Asian sunscreens are much more cosmetically elegant and much lighter on the skin, with technology allowing them to adhere to skin better. There are also new mineral sunscreens that no longer leave a white cast. But if you're in a pinch or your favorite sunscreen has run out, this Neutrogena sunscreen is readily available everywhere, and it will do. Better than no sunscreen, at all!z.q

At first, this was my holy grail sunscreen. It doesn’t sting your eyes, nor does it have a white cast. I’ve used this for about 2-3 months until I realized that it’s been making my face look dry instead of glowy like I wanted. If you have dry skin, this may not be the right sunscreen for you, but if you have oily skin, this does a great job at minimizing any oil. Aside from that, I noticed that the product in my bottle became super liquidy and separated into a white liquid and an oil. I know sunscreen is supposed to separate at times, but even when I shake my bottle, it won’t mix together. This may be a sign I have to throw it out, so be aware of this possibly happening.Shelby

I have a pretty oily and pale skin so I've been on the search for a sunscreen that protects, spreads well, and will not make me break out or look even greasier. I'd tried every product that (wrongly) claimed to do so and had almost given up on finding a perfect solution, especially for every day use, until this. Now, it's the only brand I'll use. Feels amazingly breathable on, not cakey nor does it clog pores. My only tip: it's thin enough to be able to spread and absorb well, but you'll want to work quickly and start with a small amount and build up as needed. If left to sit or slathered too thick, it can leave streaks of white cast that I've seen even on my pasty complexion, so I'm sure it would be even more noticeable on darker skin tones, but that's probably true of many sunscreens. Being a transplant patient, it is critical to have a proper skin protection and us it regular, which I wasn’t doing because of the oily feeling on my skin and face from the majority of Sun screen products I’ve tried, until now. The Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Watery Sun gel goes on smooth and absorbs perfectly into my skin. No oily feeling left behind and especially no dripping Sun gel into my face or slippery skin. Great lotion-type sunscreen that gives a great dewy finish. Perfect for drier skin types; doesn't dry you out and leaves you looking moisturized. The SPF 50 protection is perfect for everyday wear. Finish is non-sticky/non-tacky and very comfortable. Although for some, it may look too dewy (maybe not the best for oily skin types). Application is smooth and comforable. Reapplication is easy and layers well, doesn't feel heavy at all even though I chose to moisturize before but this can be optional if you have normal skin. Blends in effortlessly with no white cast or streakiness. My eyes do not sting at all despite using a very generous amount. Got a few friends on this and they love it. I love this sunscreen – it has 8 types of hyaluronic acid and skin-friendly ingredients. It's super moisturising and my skin feels supple with the well-blended ingredients. There's no irritants detected after the patch test and I use it right away in the morning. It's been two hrs and I don't have any allergic reaction so it's good for me. I recommend this to people who have compromised skin barrier with lack of moisture and skin discolouration from sun exposure to use this protective sunscreen. Usually, my skin will randomly flare up which makes my skin redder with worsening dryness. I live in a tropical humid and hot country so the sun is strong here which is bad for my skin (eczema). I haven’t tried very many spray face sunscreens but this is my favorite one. It’s a great value and provides good protection for hours. I absolutely love the smell and texture of it. it’s light scented but it doesn’t linger it’s basically just right when you mist it that you smell it. whenever i do it people around comment how yummy it smells so idk why some people say they didn’t like it, but smell a sun bum product before buying if you’re concerned you won’t like the scent!bunny22

I heard amazing things about this product and I wanted to give it 5 stars. Let’s start with the great things! The usual great Hawaiian Tropic smell, the convenient size, the ease and quality of spray. The one thing I didn’t like was that I could feel it on my skin all day, almost like a dry bug spray. I much prefer when something absorbs nicely like the lotions. Neutrogena’s Invisible Daily Defense Sunscreen Lotion broad spectrum SPF 30 is such a pleasant product to use. First off this lotion provides superior broad spectrum UVA/ UVB protection with antioxidant to help fight environmental aggressors such as cold, ozone, and pollution. My first impression- I love the mild fruity scent! The formula is nice and light, rubs in 100% without any white residue sitting on my skin. It feels hydrating to skin, almost like applying lotion. And to me it’s important that this product is non- comedogenic. This sunscreen has worked very well for me, providing great everyday protection for sun and environment. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a lightly scented broad spectrum product.Gusgumball6

Literally horrible. I wish I would’ve read the reviews before purchasing. Usually do but I was out of town and picking up some essentials from Target and came across this and hardly read it… saw 60 and “NEW” so I figured I’d try it. I usually like Neutrogena sunscreens and they’re a pretty safe option. Not this one. All of the reviews say “not for face” and I wish I would’ve read that prior to using on my face! The skin on my face is horribly irritated- puffy eyes and very dry scaly skin under my eyes… dried out my skin very badly. Do not use this on your face. Probably safe on the rest of your body but I’m not even willing to try. This is day 3 of not using this sunscreen and my face is still irritated and puffy. Weird orange tint to sunscreen and not sure why that is necessary. Kind of pricey but I overlooked the price because I know Neutrogena is typically good.kbraz

Been using this for a few months now and can say that I love it. Like it says for me it does not cause breakouts which has been an issue in the past with many facial sunscreens. That's why I waited a while to review I wanted to put this through the ringer. So I'm about to give you an in depth review of my usage over the last few months. First off this does go nicely over many many many facial products and treatments as I have a whole repertoire of products that I've used or tested or tried out for the sake of it. And this applies nicely. I like to warm it up in my hands and then press onto my face and rub in like you would a moisturizer and make sure to get your ears as well. It does not leave a white cast on my face which is nice and doesn't feel oily or greasy because it's oil free. It can feel a bit gritty for some reason but I've gotten past that it's all good. I aloow it to sink in for about a good 10 minutes if I'm doing makeup and then I begin my routine. Have not had any problems doing makeup with this underneath as well. Works fantastic. The only reason I give this 4 stars is because if you have a face full of makeup and you'd like to reapply this is not it! Because as we know 2 hour application is best if you're out and about in the sun. Which usually I am all day. So I'd recommend a spray product or a powder product for an alternative. Now if you're going natural for the day even though we don't like makeup wipes maybe carry some miceller wipes and wipe your face down and reapply to prevent product build up which even though this is breakout and oil free if you're reapplying as directed. Imagine a 12 hour day you'd be reapplying 6 times that's a lot of product going onto your face to be cleansed off at the end of the day. This is why some form of wipes stay within my reach for easy cleaning to make reapplication a breeze and end of the day cleansing a bit easier. But I only recommend this if you have or know a brand that works for you. My friend who also works outside and is religious about sunscreen uses a facial cleaning water product and reusable cotton pads. But overall. This sunscreen is great haven't gotten burnt and I'm in the sun all day every day in hot Louisiana.jessica.h

I am so happy I found this sunscreen. It blends right into the skin leaving no greasy or sticky feeling. It doesn’t really have a scent at all so it won’t interfere with any body lotion scents or perfumes. It leaves a perfect finish that won’t stick mosquitoes or anything to it haha. It comes in a high SPF as well! I still love the scent of sun bum and I think it’s a good sunscreen but I don’t like how greasy it is- I don’t even want to get in a car with it on because I feel like a grease ball! This sunscreen is also less expensive- which is always a win in my book. It also comes in a spray version which is not greasy either!gretchen.f

This & Sun Comfort are my two favorite sunscreens of all time. The texture is so lovely & it offers great sun protection. I don’t feel greasy or sticky after application like sooo many other sunscreens. It’s just really upsetting that it’s impossible to find now! Please push this product to store buyers harder – it is so so good!!! The only issue I have with it is the bottle design could be better, it makes it very hard to get the lotion out.Fellanie

I have been trying to be better about wearing SPF every day but I hate the greasy feel. I've tried high end, drugstore, and Kbeauty options. No matter what, I find myself making excuses to skip it. This is the first sunscreen I have ever truly loved. It's not greasy on my combination skin, it's not reactive for my sensitive skin, the finish is perfectly natural, and makeup wears great over top. I hope it stays in the Banana Boat permanent collection forever.Kasey

This is the best sunblock I have ever tried. It is beautifully light and also sweat resistant and makeup goes on smoothly over it. I use it while playing golf and it is effective on hot sunny days. I decided to try this because I'd gone through 4 bottles of the SkinMedica Essential Defense SPF (tinted), which was the SPF that converted me to wearing daily sunscreen. Given this more specific "anti-aging" formula I figured it would be a fancier version of what I already loved. Now that I've gone through most of the bottle, my verdict is that it's…okay. It's much thicker and doesn't play as nice with my skincare as the Essential Defense does. If I apply it too soon after my moisturizer it clumps up. Since it's thicker I also feel its presence on my face a little more than the Essential Defense. I'm about to be 30 years old, so maybe my skin isn't mature enough to appreciate this formula, but I didn't really notice any skin benefits. Don’t get me wrong, this is an incredible product (it should be for the price) but it isn't my favorite SkinMedica SPF.Leah
